California Man Confesses to Robbing Three Subway Restaurants in One Week, Reports FBI

0

A man from California confessed his involvement on Friday in a series of armed heists and attempted hold-ups targeting several Subway sandwich shops in Orange County.

Freddie Alexander Lopez, a 24-year-old resident of Santa Ana, pleaded guilty to a federal robbery charge, admitting to terrifying cashiers with weapons as he stormed three Subway locations and a donut shop, all within a span of roughly six days.

Lopez’s approach was consistent at each location. According to the FBI, he would arrive under the cover of night, clad in a dark hoodie and mask. Once inside, he would casually order a small item, like a bag of chips, and patiently wait for the cashier to open the register before revealing a weapon and demanding cash.

Investigators were able to tie Lopez to the heists, thanks to surveillance videos from the businesses and cellphone location data that placed him close to the scene of the robberies at the crucial times.

Lopez’s spree of robberies began on Jan. 27, 2026, when he walked into a Subway in Santa Ana at 11:57 p.m., according to court records.

After pulling a knife on the cashier, Lopez was able to get away with $300, per the criminal complaint.

During the early morning hours of Jan. 30, Lopez entered a Subway in Fountain Valley and once again demanded money while threatening the cashier with a knife, according to the plea agreement.

“Give me all the money, or I’ll hurt you,” Lopez said, according to witnesses who spoke with law enforcement.

This time, the cashier refused and shut the cash register, prompting Lopez to flee on foot, according to the criminal complaint.

Less than 30 minutes later, Lopez robbed a Yum Yum Donuts store about 5-and-a-half miles from the Subway he had just targeted, investigators said.

Two days later, on Feb. 1, Lopez walked into a third Subway restaurant in Anaheim, per the criminal complaint.

Surveillance footage reviewed by the FBI showed Lopez was armed with what appeared to be a black pistol. When the female cashier refused to give him money, the footage showed him jumping over the counter and trying to wrestle the key to the register out of her hand.

After Lopez failed to get the key and could not open the register with the touch screen, he left the restaurant, according to the criminal complaint.

On Feb. 6, the Santa Ana Police Department arrested Lopez during a traffic stop, believing his vehicle was the one that was driven by the suspect in the robberies, according to the FBI.

Officers found what appeared to be “the same handgun, knife, mask, and glasses used during the robberies,” the FBI said. Investigators noted that they found a replica gun in his car that appeared to match the one used in the Feb. 1 attempted robbery.

After his arrest, Lopez was released ahead of his trial but was re-arrested on April 30 on the federal robbery charge.

Following his guilty plea, Lopez is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 2. He faces a maximum of 20 years in prison.

Ukraine Strikes Moscow Warehouse, Bringing Conflict Closer to Putin’s Homefront

Thick smoke engulfed the Moscow region today after Ukrainian drones targeted the sprawling logistics hub of Wildberries, Russia’s equivalent to Amazon.

A subsequent assault in Tambov resulted in seven fatalities and left over twenty people injured at another facility owned by the online retail giant.

In Noginsk, an essential oil depot burst into flames following an attack, prompting the hasty evacuation of a nearby maternity hospital.

Meanwhile, with military recruitment challenges mounting, a beleaguered Vladimir Putin is reportedly considering enlisting imprisoned mafia members to bolster his forces in the ongoing conflict.

The assault on the Elektrostal Wildberries depot – situated 36 miles (58km) from the Kremlin – unleashed a towering column of toxic black smoke, marking one of the most significant fires since the conflict began.

The blaze was visible more than 30miles (48km) away, with smog reported in parts of Moscow.

There were reports Ukraine used jet drones in today’s attacks.

The two hits on Russia’s largest online retailer are part of Ukraine’s campaign to make Vladimir Putin’s citizens feel the consequences of the war he unleashed and refuses to stop, and are set to cause major disruption.

Analysts say it is also in response to Russian strikes on postal hubs in Ukraine.

Two dozen people were wounded in the overnight strikes on the Moscow region, and seven night shift workers were killed and at least 25 wounded in the attack on Wildberries in Kotovsk, 270miles (434km) southeast of Moscow.

The Tambov regional governor Yevgeny Pervyshov called the strike a ‘premeditated terrorist attack against civilians’.

Pro-Ukrainian channel Exile+ declared: ‘Probably the best night in a long time.

‘Finally, counter-actions against logistical hubs controlled by the Russians have begun.

‘There are far more of these hubs in Russian-controlled territory than there are in ours. They all need to be destroyed.’

Ukraine continued its war on Russian oil tankers and other supply ships, with 13 hit overnight, mostly in the Black Sea.

Ramzan Kadyrov, warlord leader of Chechnya and close Putin ally, called for direct revenge strikes on NATO states.

He told Putin: ‘You just set the task, and we will take care of the rest.

‘It would be beneficial to start with the countries that, hiding behind the NATO acronym, openly and brazenly provide weapons, data, and other support to the Ukrainian fascists.’

Western states supplying Ukraine should ‘smell the scent of TNT’, he continued, and ‘as soon as they hear the roar of the Kalashnikov and the clatter of the T-90, they will immediately understand’ and halt their aid.

‘It’s time to open fire, and it’s not that difficult,’ said Kadyrov.

‘All this satanic scum only understands the language of force.

‘They cannot comprehend that Russia is currently conducting restrained military operations with minimal losses among the civilian population.

‘But as soon as we unleash our military machine, as soon as our gears begin to grind their bones, all Western leaders will line up to express their deepest apologies.’

Meanwhile, members of gangs and organised crime groups will be allowed to enter into contracts with the Ministry of Defence so that they can be sent to the war zones.

The move will see members of mafia and armed gangs fight for the first time.

‘Those convicted or accused of smuggling weapons and drugs, theft of nuclear materials, organising illegal migration, and participating in the activities of ‘undesirable’ organisations will also be able to sign contracts,’ reported the Moscow Times.

The move is enabled during periods of mobilisation, martial law or wartime.

It highlights the desperation of Putin who is now losing an estimated 7,000 troops a week on the battlefields.

There is strong speculation he will order a full mobilisation of military age men in September, soon after parliamentary elections have taken place.

Russia, meanwhile, claimed almost 400 Ukrainian drones were shot down overnight.

King Charles Thrives Amid Cancer Fight, Says Prince Harry

Prince Harry recently provided a rare glimpse into family updates, notably concerning King Charles’s well-being, during an unexpected appearance at the Time100 Sports Gala in New York City.

Prince Harry is said to have offered a rare public update on King Charles’s health and his family life during a surprise appearance at the Time100 Sports Gala in New York

Prince Harry’s unexpected remarks about King Charles’s health captured attention at the Time100 Sports Gala in New York.

At the event, the 41-year-old Duke of Sussex revealed to attendees that his father, King Charles, is “doing great” amidst his ongoing cancer treatment, offering reassurances about the monarch’s recovery.

Harry, 41, also apparently said his wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, 44, and their children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, were “happy” to be back home in California following their recent visit to the UK. The comments, reported by Page Six, came during a high-profile appearance centred on the Invictus Games, the sporting competition Harry founded in 2014 for wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans.

Harry, whose relationship with the Royal family has remained under intense public scrutiny since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, was an unexpected guest at the gala, where he joined leading figures from the sporting world including LeBron James, Russell Wilson, Alysa Liu, Lindsey Vonn and Dancing With the Stars professional Witney Carson.

Megan Fox Addresses Criticism of Her Bold Photos With Poise

Megan Fox proudly embraces the milestone of turning 40.

Recently, the Transformers actress—mother to Noah, 13, Bodhi, 12, and Journey, 9, from her marriage to Brian Austin Green, and Saga Blade, 15 months, with ex Machine Gun Kelly—demonstrated her confidence. On July 17, she posted a series of striking photos in black lingerie on Instagram.

However, not everyone was impressed. When a social media user remarked, “This s–t is so unbelievably embarrassing for a 40-year-old mom to be posting. 16 year old tumblr s–t,” Fox didn’t hesitate to respond with a sharp retort.

“Which one of my exes,” the star of This Is 40 quipped, “is this.”

Before her recent Instagram post, Fox has been candid about her journey and the perception of her body, especially while living in the limelight.

“We may look at somebody and think, ‘That person’s so beautiful. Their life must be so easy,'” she told British GQ in 2021. “They most likely don’t feel that way about themselves.”

Abby Elliott of ‘The Bear’ Divorces After 10 Years of Marriage

After nearly a decade of marriage, Abby Elliott has decided to part ways with her husband, producer Bill Kennedy.

The 39-year-old actress, recognized for her role as Natalie in the popular FX series “The Bear,” officially filed for divorce last Friday. This development was confirmed by documents acquired by TMZ.

Elliott cited “irreconcilable differences” as the cause for their separation, which she noted began on July 8.

In her filing, Elliott requested joint legal and physical custody of their two children, Edith, 5, and William, 3, both of whom were born during their marriage.

Furthermore, Elliott is seeking spousal support from Kennedy while petitioning the court to deny him any similar compensation.

She has also requested that the producer pay her legal fees.

A rep for Elliott did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.

Elliott and Kennedy first met on set of the 2014 movie “Sex Ed,” which he had written. She starred in the film alongside Glen Powell, Haley Joel Osment and Lorenza Izzo.

Shortly after meeting, they struck up a romance, and in October 2015, he proposed.

“We’ve been dating for a year-and-a-half, I think. It was a surprise,” she told the Knot in a past interview.

She said Kennedy popped the question “in our apartment and it was beautiful. There were flowers everywhere.”

“It was really beautiful and he was traditional and got down on one knee. It was just very simple, but lovely and wonderful.”

The following year — in September 2016 — Elliott and Kennedy tied the knot during a church ceremony in New England.

Elliott and Kennedy welcomed their first child, Edith, in October 2020, and second child, William, in June 2023.

Elliott, who was a cast member on “Saturday Night Live” from 2008 through 2012, has starred in films like 2011’s “No Strings Attached,” 2014’s “Life Partners” and 2022’s “Cheaper By The Dozen.” She’s also appeared in TV shows such as “2 Broke Girls,” “How I Met Your Mother” and “King Of The Hill.”

Kennedy, meanwhile, is known for being a producer and writer on TV shows like “House Of Cards,” “Tell Me Lies” and “The Morning Show.”

‘So my baby is the biggest blessing of my life, I have felt so lucky to be carrying her all this time, feeling her grow and feeling her little kicks become big ones.

Zahida went on to say the baby is ‘the biggest blessing’ of her life and she can’t wait to start her next chapter.

She concluded: ‘For me, my life isn’t ending, it’s just beginning again and I am so excited to welcome my little miracle into the world and begin this next chapter of my life, becoming a mama.

‘To all parents and those who are doing it alone, or are going to be doing it alone, you are so strong and I have SO MUCH respect and admiration for you. You should be incredibly proud of yourself.

California Forest Workers Held Hostage by Father-Son Duo Sparks Outrage and Legal Action

0

In an alarming incident in California, a father and son are accused of kidnapping two U.S. Forest Service employees, according to U.S. Attorney Eric Grant during a press conference.

Joseph Charles Henrichsen, 49, along with his son Phoenix Henrichsen, allegedly took the federal workers hostage inside a trailer in a remote area near Mt. Shasta.

In response, the FBI dispatched a hostage negotiator from Quantico, who worked closely with local authorities. Through several hours of negotiation, they successfully facilitated the release of the hostages.

After restraining the hostages with zip ties, the elder Henrichsen insisted on communicating with the FBI, holding them captive in a trailer near Gumboot Lake within the Shasta Trinity National Forest of northern California.

A Forest Services employee called authorities shortly before 11 a.m. local time on Thursday to notify them of the kidnapping. The FBI secured the release of one of the hostages at 1:50 a.m. on Friday and the second hostage 15 minutes later. The alleged kidnappers surrendered themselves to the FBI at 2:30 a.m.

“I’m grateful beyond words that both of our Forest Service employees taken hostage on the Shasta-Trinity National Forest are home safe,” Forest Service Chief Tom Schultz said in a statement.

“This was a frightening experience for everyone involved. Their well-being continues to be our highest priority. We’re staying close to them and their loved ones, making sure they have the support and the space that they need after what they’ve been through,” he concluded.

The FBI does not yet know what the kidnappers’ motivation is or why they requested to speak with the FBI.

“The United States Attorney’s Office intends to charge both men by criminal complaint with kidnapping a federal employee under Title 18, United States Code, Section 1201(a)(5),” Grant said during a Friday press conference.

News Media contacted the FBI and the US Forest Service for additional comment.

Speeding Hardly Saves Time: Surprising Study Insights

0

Speeding is more than just a risky behavior—it’s largely an exercise in futility.

Research conducted by scholars in Minnesota has debunked the common misconception that driving faster significantly reduces travel time. According to their study published in the prestigious Nature journal Communications Sustainability, speeding typically saves motorists less than a minute.

“Anyone aiming to cut just one minute off their journey would need to embrace speeding,” quipped Professor William Northrop, a study co-author from the University of Minnesota, in a statement. He further noted, “However, if your aim is a safe arrival and efficient fuel consumption, you might consider driving below the speed limit.”

The research team, led by Northrop, embarked on this project to evaluate the repercussions of excessive speed on fuel efficiency, time savings, and environmental emissions.

Maps of US.

A chart revealing potential fuel cost savings if speed limits were adhered to.

To test whether speeding actually saves time, scientists meticulously examined data from 120 million car journeys across the United States in 2021. Their analysis drew on comprehensive traffic data, including national road systems, speed limits, and topographical information provided by the US Geological Survey.

They restricted the sample to roads where the speed limit was 45 mph or higher.

The team found that, contrary to what many speed demons would have you believe, driving at or below the speed limit only corresponded to around 54 seconds longer per day when the average daily distance was 28.6 miles.

This extrapolates out to just over 6 minutes per week.

Lights and traffic stream past driver.

“Our study examines an obvious yet difficult-to-implement intervention for major fuel savings that can be achieved without replacing our cars: driving slower,” concluded Northrop. Corbis via Getty Images

Despite failing to meaningfully expedite one’s car trip, a troubling number of motorists go pedal to the metal. According to the study, 43 percent of the trips included one incident of speeding, while drivers spent 12 percent of their time behind the wheel exceeding the speed limit.

“While internal combustion engine-powered vehicles have become significantly more efficient in the past decades, they have also become much more powerful,” said Northrop. “Driving fast is easier than ever.”

Unfortunately, wasting time isn’t the only side effect of this pedal crime. Going full-throttle can have your fuel tank gone in 60 seconds, per the study, which found that speeders burn 2.3 to 3 percent more gasoline on average.

Were drivers to comply with posted speed limits, it could save an average of $22 million and 6.7 million gallons of fuel — in other words, the juice is not worth the speed.

Researchers declared that the only thing that gas-holes accelerate is the decline of the ozone layer, estimating that ignoring speed limits wastes 7,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide every single day for light-duty engine-powered vehicles.

Ultimately, the study demonstrates that motorists can have their gas-guzzlers and drive them too.

“Our study examines an obvious yet difficult-to-implement intervention for major fuel savings that can be achieved without replacing our cars: driving slower,” concluded Northrop.

Bristol Man Arrested for Selling Stolen Cars on Facebook

In a twist of fate in Abingdon, Virginia, law enforcement is dealing with an unusual case involving a string of stolen vehicles. According to a report by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO), a Bristol man now faces charges after being linked to an operation in which ten cars vanished and were subsequently sold.

The saga began to unravel when, on June 26 and 29, a bewildered property owner on Rich Valley Road reported the sudden disappearance of ten vehicles from his premises.

With a keen investigative eye, the WCSO embarked on a three-week inquiry. Their search culminated in identifying Charles Alexander, a 27-year-old from Bristol, as the prime suspect. Authorities allege Alexander orchestrated the sale of these purloined vehicles by reaching out to local towing companies through Facebook Messenger.

The WCSO said Alexander falsely claimed to have inherited the Rich Valley Road property and was aiming to sell the vehicles as junk. He reportedly told the towing companies he did not have titles for the vehicles. The towing companies agreed to purchase the vehicles and paid Alexander in person on the Rich Valley Road property on three separate occasions, the WCSO said.

Detectives with the WCSO located Alexander as he was attempting to sell additional vehicles. He was arrested on Thursday and charged with the following, according to the release:

  • 10 counts of Grand Larceny of a Motor Vehicle

  • 10 counts of Obtaining Money by False Pretenses
  • 10 counts of Selling or Trading a Vehicle Without Possessing the Title
  • Alexander is being held on a $5,000 bond in the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail.

Sunny Hostin’s Eye-Opening Encounter with Police Unveiled

    0

Sunny Hostin, co-host of The View, made attempts to dissuade police officers from arresting her son by highlighting her television role and legal experience, as revealed in newly released bodycam footage.

Hostin, aged 57, earnestly urged officers to reconsider issuing a trespassing notice to her 24-year-old son Gabriel, a Harvard alum, after he was found walking on train tracks the previous month.

Arriving at the scene along the Metro-North Railroad tracks in Westchester County, New York, Hostin immediately introduced herself to the police, eager to protect her son.

In the bodycam footage, she can be heard saying, “My name is Sunny Hostin, and I’m one of the co-hosts of The View as well as a former federal prosecutor.”

She continued, “That’s my son. He’s a Harvard graduate and has no criminal record,” emphasizing his clean slate.

Police said Gabriel Hostin was detained by the side of the tracks for ‘criminal trespassing’ around 8pm on June 16, after he was caught ‘on the right-of-way of the active railroad tracks, in violation of the posted no trespassing signs.’

The 24-year-old told officers that he did not intend to trespass, and claimed he ran through an open gate while out on a run.

His famous mom showed up within minutes after the officers moved to a nearby street, with Hostin quickly telling the cops the incident was an ‘innocent mistake.’

Hostin repeatedly informed the officers at the scene that not only was she the host of The View, but she is also a former attorney.

‘I’m a former federal prosecutor,’ she said as she arrived on scene.

‘He knows. He’s a Harvard grad who teaches 4th grade geometry to South Bronx kids.’

She described her son as ‘not a kid who’s ever in trouble’, as she implored the officers not to issue her son a citation.

The cops did not appear impressed by Hostin’s pleading, and told Gabriel he was getting a trespass violation ticket.

Gabriel then responded, ‘Is this necessary?’ to which the officers replied with a short, ‘Yes.’

‘What happens if you didn’t do it?’ he then asked, seemingly referring to the ticket he was about to receive.

The cops told him that their ‘hands were tied,’ and they had no choice but to give him the citation.

‘Because it is an arrestable offense. I want to make that clear, okay? Where you were on the tracks is an arrestable offense,’ one of the offices added.

The officer said he was not putting Gabriel in handcuffs, and was ‘dimming it down to a trespass violation because you were in the right-of-way, you weren’t in the gauge or anything, which is the middle area where the tracks were on.’

‘And you’ve been very cooperative with us and you have a good background, everything like that.

‘We know you’re not a criminal or anything like that but our hands are tied with cameras everywhere.’

Following the citation, Gabriel Hostin was ordered to return to court in New Rochelle, New York on July 31.

According to the New York Post, his former federal prosecutor mom is representing him.

Sunny Hostin also penned a letter to Westchester Assistant District Attorney Amanda Greene, the prosecutor in the case, where she asked for the case to be dismissed.

‘My client is a 2025 Harvard University graduate with no criminal history or prior contact with the criminal justice system,’ she wrote in the letter, obtained by TMZ.

‘He is an avid runner and former Junior Olympian track athlete who was in the area training. When jogging, he observed what appeared to be a gravel incline that could be used for hill training,’ she went on.

‘Although there was a gate at the entrance of the gravel incline, the gates were standing open. The only “No Trespassing” sign was affixed to the left gate and, because the gates were open, it was not visible to my client as he entered the property,’ she claimed.

‘He reasonably believed the area was accessible and had no intention of entering private property unlawfully.’

Hostin – who has been a co-host on The View since 2016 – added that her son was facing ‘unnecessary consequences’ for an ‘honest mistake.’

‘Dismissal would avoid imposing unnecessary consequences on a young man who has demonstrated exceptional character and achievement and who poses no risk to the community,’ she added.
