Prince William Urges England to Stand Proud After Heart-Wrenching World Cup Loss

0

Prince William extended heartfelt encouragement to England’s national team after their narrow World Cup semi-final loss to Argentina, urging them to “hold their heads high.”

In a gesture of solidarity, the heir to the throne commended Thomas Tuchel’s squad for their extraordinary “fight and belief,” which he said “inspired us all,” despite the 2-1 defeat at the hands of a formidable team led by Lionel Messi.

Taking to Instagram to share his sentiments, the Prince of Wales expressed his disappointment but also immense pride: “Gutted. England, you gave it everything and we are all so proud of you.”

He went on to thank every player and team member, both “on and off the pitch,” for their role in delivering “an incredible tournament,” acknowledging their remarkable effort and inspiring spirit.

“The most complete England team in a tournament,” he declared, encouraging them to stand tall despite the setback.

An initially gutsy performance from the Three Lions saw Anthony Gordon put the side one ahead at 55 minutes, but substitutions to send England into a defensive set-up would heartbreakingly backfire.

England were just less than six minutes away from their first World Cup final for 60 years when Enzo Fernandez scored the equaliser that denied them.

This was followed two minutes into injury time by a header from Lautaro Martinez, who secured Argentina’s place in Sunday night’s final against Spain in New York.

It was England’s fourth-ever appearance in the final four of a World Cup, making this the most high-stakes match since 1966.

But in a story familiar to long-suffering fans, they just couldn’t keep ahead at the final whistle.

The royals were among those quick to congratulate the team for their impressive run to the semis, with King Charles III taking to social media and writing: ‘Commiserations to Harry and the team.

‘While you Three Lions may be licking your wounds today, you remain the pride of a nation – and will rise again.’

And outgoing Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer paid tribute to England’s ‘passion’ and ‘energy’.

Writing on X, he said: ‘Gutted. Tonight wasn’t the result we all hoped for, but this England team has given it their all.

‘The passion and energy they’ve shown representing the badge has made us all proud.’

CEO of the FA, Mark Bullingham, said: ‘It is heartbreaking to be so close. The players and Thomas gave it everything today and the squad, coaches and staff could not have worked harder during the tournament.

‘I would like to thank them all – and also give my heartfelt thanks to our wonderful fans here in the USA and at home. We felt your support every step of the way and we are all so disappointed not to go further.’

But fans and pundits lambasted manager Tuchel for turning to a back five with 35 minutes to go against Messi’s legendary striker boots. Messi was granted assists for both goals against the Three Lions.

Although it served them well against Mexico, Ezri Konsa coming on for the goal scorer in the 72nd minute to join Reece James, John Stones, Marc Guehi and Djed Spence left England with virtually no opportunities on the front foot.

They found themselves on the defensive, and Dan Burn was later introduced too when Reece James left the field injured.

England were then heavily under the cosh, and Enzo Fernandez and then Lautaro Martinez scored to break English hearts once again.

Although Marcus Rashford and Ivan Toney were brought on in the final minutes, it was just too little, too late, and Tuchel’s side’s increasingly desperate clearances towards the penalty box were delivered with no results.

England’s players were left devastated as their final hope was dashed, with a stony-faced Harry Kane embracing his compatriots.

Gainesville Man Arrested for Tumultuous McDonald’s Encounter

0

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A dramatic scene unfolded in Midtown at the McDonald’s last night, leading to the arrest of 32-year-old Lorenze Ford III. Ford allegedly leaped across the counter, threatening violence against an employee.

The Gainesville Police Department received a distress call around 9:37 p.m. on July 14. An employee at the McDonald’s located at 1206 W. University Avenue had reported Ford’s disruptive behavior and aggressive shouting inside the establishment.

Despite repeated requests to leave, Ford reportedly refused. Instead, he escalated the situation by jumping over the counter and issued threats to the employee. The employee managed to escort Ford back into the public area, but Ford showed no intention of departing. Notably, this was not his first disruptive episode at the store, prompting the employee to request an official trespass notice against him.

When officers located Ford across the street, he insisted he had been pushed multiple times. Although he declined to discuss the altercation, within earshot of the officers, he declared his intention to return to the restaurant to confront the employee physically.

Ford has been charged with burglary of an occupied structure and simple assault. He has two misdemeanor convictions (non-violent). He was most recently arrested in December 2025 at GRACE Marketplace for trespassing, resisting arrest without violence, and two counts of battery on law enforcement officers, and he served three months in the Alachua County Jail after the battery charges were dropped. Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $70,000 on the new charges and ordered a mental health evaluation.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

A retired mathematics professor now stands charged with the alleged murder of his wife, known for her work as an airline meteorologist.

According to police, officers were dispatched to a residence in Fair Oaks, Virginia, where they discovered 60-year-old Chisen Jameson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Before the tragic incident, she managed to place a 911 call. During the call, officials noted that the unmistakable sound of gunfire resonated in the background, as reported by FOX 5.

Leland Jameson, aged 64, has been charged with second-degree murder alongside charges of using a firearm during a felony. Once an esteemed professor at George Mason University, Jameson earned his doctorate from the prestigious Brown University.

2026 California Grunion Run: Best Times for Beach Watching

0

The mesmerizing spectacle of nature is set to reappear along the California coastline, as countless shimmering grunions are predicted to surf ashore starting Wednesday night. These small silvery fish will be performing their intriguing dance on the sand as they venture out for their spawning rituals.

This event marks the beginning of open season, allowing Californians to legally catch these elusive grunions. However, each individual is limited to a haul of 30 fish.

Renowned for their extraordinary reproductive display, grunions often draw an “I can’t believe my eyes” reaction from first-time spectators, as the California Department of Fish and Wildlife delightfully observed, recalling a highlight from Huell Howser back in 1997.

Not known for wandering far from home, grunions usually stay in the waters close to shore. These marine creatures choose the cover of night during the warmer months to leave the safety of the ocean and lay their eggs on sandy beaches.

“For four consecutive nights, beginning on the nights of the full and new moons, spawning occurs after high tides and continues for several hours,” CDFW says.

While the spawning process “may only take 30 seconds, some fish remain stranded on the beach for several minutes” before a wave carries them back to the ocean.

The CDFW has mapped out the exact two-hour windows where spawning is most likely to occur. For this week’s peak run, the forecast is as follows:

Date Expected Spawning Window
July 14, 2026 9:45 pm – 11:45 pm
July 15, 2026 10:35 pm- 12:35 am (next day)
July 16, 2026 11:20 pm – 1:20 am (next day)
July 18, 2026 12:10 am – 2:10 am

Not every beach is a grunion hotspot, but the best runs usually happen on quiet, dark, sandy stretches with little foot traffic, gentle slopes and plenty of wide-open shoreline according to Surf Fishing in So Cal.

Despite local concentrations, “grunion are not abundant” and face ongoing threats from “loss of spawning habitat caused by beach erosion, harbor construction, and pollution”.

The CDFW advises people to catch these fishes using bare hands, without any tools or gears. During the open season, fisherfolk require a license to capture grunions.

Argentina Claims Falklands After World Cup Win vs England

0

In a thrilling World Cup semi-final that left fans on the edge of their seats, Argentina seized a 2-1 victory over England, prompting their players to unveil a bold banner proclaiming ‘The Falklands are Argentinian’.

Among those jubilantly displaying the message on the field were Cristian Romero, captain of Tottenham, alongside former Spurs midfielder Giovani Lo Celso, and Manchester United’s Lisandro Martinez, all celebrating the hard-fought triumph after the final whistle.

The events stirred memories of the 1982 Falklands War, a conflict where 255 British soldiers lost their lives, part of a total of 907 fatalities, as the UK forces reclaimed the territory following an Argentine invasion.

Given the political sensitivity surrounding the Falklands, FIFA had imposed restrictions on related flags at the stadium, and this incident is poised for scrutiny by football authorities.

The origins of the controversial banner remained shrouded in mystery.

Tension over the ownership of the islands, which are located 300 miles off the coast of Argentina but owned by Britain, had been a major talking point in the build-up to the match.

Argentina’s players were captured singing a chant in which they claimed the Falkland Islands were theirs in the aftermath of their last-16 victory over Egypt.

The country’s Foreign Minister, Pablo Quirno, also claimed the people living on the islands had been ‘artificially implanted’ – and that a referendum on British sovereignty was illegitimate.

Falklanders were asked in a 2013 ballot whether they wanted the islands to remain under British rule, with 99.8 per cent voting yes.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper rejected the referendum attack and tried to cool tensions.

The animosity dates back principally to a ten-week war in 1982, when an Argentinian invasion of the Falklands was seen off by the British – at the cost of 907 lives.

It spilled over into football four years later when Maradona scored his infamous ‘hand of God’ goal in the 1986 World Cup quarter-final clash.

He used his fist to put the opening goal past England, allowing Argentina to win 2-1 and go on to claim the World Cup trophy.

During tonight’s match, an impressive performance from the Three Lions at the start of the second half saw Antony Gordon put the side in front.

But substitutions to send England into a defensive set-up would heartbreakingly backfire.

England fans complained about the conduct of the Argentinian fans after the game. #

One supporter told the Mail: ‘Obviously [we] were upset about the game, walking out the stadium, minding our own business.

‘Some guy, Argentina fan, comes up waving his flag, shoves it in our face, winding us up.

‘You know obviously someone’s going to retaliate, right? But luckily we didn’t retaliate but there’s a lot of animosity.

‘When Argentina scored, an Argentinian guy next to me took his shirt off, waving it, slapping it in my face, absolutely disgusting.

‘Disgusting behaviour from the Argentinian fans, absolutely disgusting.

‘Tonight there’s not enough cops to police all of this. I’m telling you right now it’s going to kick off later in bars and stuff for sure, 100 per cent.’

Tearful WAGs Mourn England’s Heartbreaking World Cup Defeat to Argentina

0

The atmosphere in the stands turned somber as the heartbroken England WAGs were seen wiping tears away, following Argentina’s triumphant ousting of the Three Lions from the World Cup on Wednesday night.

Amidst the emotional aftermath, Megan Pickford appeared crushed, watching her husband, footballer Jordan Pickford, break down on the pitch after the stinging defeat.

The night had begun on a hopeful note for England when Anthony Gordon found the back of the net, driving home a goal from Morgan Rogers’ cross to secure an early 1 – 0 advantage for the Three Lions.

The tides turned swiftly as Argentina, the reigning champions, pulled even with a spectacular long-range goal from Enzo Fernández.

With the clock ticking in stoppage time, Lionel Messi skillfully lofted a cross to the back post, paving the way for Lautaro Martínez to deliver the decisive header that sealed Argentina’s victory.

As the referee blew the whistle, Megan, 30, looked visibly upset with her hands placed on her head.

Ahead of the match, Megan was the first of the wives to throw support behind the Three Lions.

She took to TikTok ahead of the Atlanta game to ask fans for help on which designer outfit to wear.

Megan first turned heads in a fitted football shirt with Jordan’s player number on it with a pair of white jeans.

The influencer teamed the look with a red Celine belt and an adorable white Chanel bag.

She then switched into a mini black-and-white dress from Meshki, styled with a red Chanel bag.

Megan took to Instagram Stories to document her shopping trip, and while no doubt she picked up a few designer treats, she also posted a snap of an eye-catching designer wallet with a football pitch design.

She captioned the post: ‘Bought husband a special World Cup wallet.’

Like all of this year’s England WAGs, Megan had prepared a glamorous designer wardrobe to take her seat in the stands for England’s World Cup matches.

But her chance to debut her looks was hit by a week-long delay when Megan revealed her airline had lost her suitcase last month.

Hours ahead of England’s match against Ghana on Tuesday, Megan revealed she’d finally been reunited with her suitcase.

Posting a hilarious update on her social media accounts on Monday night Megan uploaded a video of her opening the door of her hotel room to see her prized baggage.

Dressed in pink joggers and top Megan pulls the suitcase into her room and gives it a big hug as Abba’s classic hit ‘Honey Honey’ played.

She wrote: ‘A special delivery arrived it will not be leaving my sight before tomorrow’s game,’ ending the post with the hashtag suitcasegate.

Fellow WAG Ellie wrote ‘Hahaha so happy for you,’ while Megan added the first thing she was going to buy was an air tag to track her luggage.

Rep. Angie Nixon’s Jury Trial: Tallahassee Protest Unveiled

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WFLA) — State Representative Angie Nixon, a Democrat from Jacksonville who is also pursuing a seat in the U.S. Senate, appeared in court on Tuesday in Tallahassee.

Her court appearance is related to her arrest during a sit-in demonstration outside the Governor’s office, a protest that erupted following the implementation of Florida’s newly redrawn congressional districts.

Court documents reveal that Nixon has been charged with trespassing and resisting an officer without violence.

“I was in that office to defend your right to vote, and for that stand, I am being treated like a criminal,” Nixon stated at a press conference following Tuesday’s court session.

Nixon is calling the case a “desperate attempt” to intimidate and silence political pushback against the state’s new congressional maps.

Back in April, the legislature passed new district lines. The House passed the new map 83-28 and the Senate 21-17.

After floor debate had wrapped, Nixon pulled out a bright pink bullhorn and started chanting, “this is a violation of the constitution” in protest of the new map.

Following that outburst weeks later, Nixon was reprimanded by a house committee who called her actions on the debate floor disruptive and out of order.

“If could do it again, I would,” Nixon said.

A day later, Nixon staged a sit-in protest at the governor’s office, demanding to speak to him and his team about the new maps.

According to court records, Capitol Police were called after they received reports that individuals were loudly chanting and disrupting office operations. Officers said she was told to leave several times but refused.

Nixon was then escorted to the Capitol Police office, where she was arrested.

8 On Your Side reached out to the governor’s office for a comment but have yet to hear back.

Nixon’s legal team is planning to argue that she was just trying to speak directly with Governor Ron DeSantis on behalf of her constituents.

“We want to challenge what’s going on here. We want State Representatives like Angie Nixon and others who are willing to fight to be able to confront the governor,” said Akbar Mutaqee, Nixon’s Attorney.

A jury trial is scheduled to begin the week of Sept. 21 in Leon County.

Clay County man faces charges for carjacking and attempted kidnapping spree

0

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A man from Clay County has been slapped with charges including carjacking and attempted kidnapping, alongside various other offenses, as announced by U.S. Attorney Phillip Williams Jr.

Stevie Harris is facing allegations of attempted kidnapping and carjacking, in addition to carrying a firearm in association with a violent crime. He is also accused of transporting explosive materials both without a license and with the intent to cause harm. Authorities report that these events transpired on September 5, 2024.

“The indictment outlines accusations of serious crimes endangering a victim and those in the vicinity,” stated Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristy M. Peoples. “Our gratitude goes to the federal, state, and local law enforcement teams whose exemplary teamwork enabled this prosecution,” she added.

Girlfriend’s Body Left in Bathtub for Months: Family Uncovers Chilling Truth

0

In a chilling criminal case that shocked the nation, a man who brutally killed his girlfriend and mutilated her body, storing it in his basement, now faces justice.

Matthew Lewinski has been sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole for the heinous murder of Courtney “Jerri” Winters. This sentence was announced by Michigan’s Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office on July 14.

Lewinski had earlier been found guilty of first-degree murder, as well as disinterment and mutilation of a corpse, and concealing an individual’s death. For these last two charges, he was sentenced to serve a minimum of 23 months and one year, respectively.

The tragic series of events began in December 2020, when an argument erupted between Winters and Lewinski after she revealed she had undergone an abortion. This detail emerged from a police interview conducted with Lewinski, included in a Michigan Court of Appeals review and reported by Oxygen.

During his confession to authorities, Lewinski recounted how he tied Winters up, slapped her, and ultimately placed his hands around her neck for about five minutes. When she stopped moving, he moved her body to the bathroom and, seeing she was lifeless, made no effort to resuscitate her.

Winters’ body remained in the bathtub for a month before Lewinski relocated her to the basement, where the temperature was colder, according to the opinion.

Over subsequent months, prosecutors said in the press release, Lewinski “removed portions of the victim’s remains in an effort to conceal and dispose of the body.”

Then, Lewinski was hospitalized after neighbors reported him wandering his condominium complex in his underwear while mumbling incoherently, according to the court opinion. A spokesperson for the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office told Oxygen that Lewinski’s brother-in-law discovered Winter’s body in the basement.

Lewinski was arrested in July 2021 and confined in the Macomb County Jail.

Defense attorney Elisha Oakes argued in court that Lewinski had committed manslaughter, which would carry a maximum sentence of 15 years.

“She pushed him to a point where he snapped,” Oakes said, according to Macomb Daily. “I want you to think about being told that your baby was taken from you, your child was taken from you by the act of another person, the one thing you wanted, and in that moment, after months of abuse, being threatened, being told ‘I’m going to blow your f–king head off,’ all of those things culminated.”

However, Assistant Prosecutor Carmen DeFranco said the killing was intentional.

“Manslaughter is nowhere near what we have here,” DeFranco said, per Macomb Daily. “There is absolutely no impulse. This is conscious though, five minutes of conscious thought to squeeze the life out of someone. It wasn’t a pull-out-a-gun and shooting in two seconds.”
