California Authorities Recover $30K Meth Cache After Suspect Leaves Bag in Rideshare

0

Officials have reported that a California man’s alleged drug smuggling attempt was thwarted when he mistakenly left a backpack containing a large quantity of suspected methamphetamine in a rideshare car.

According to the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD), authorities confiscated approximately three-quarters of a pound of what they believe to be meth after a rideshare driver notified them on Sunday afternoon.

The street value of the drugs is estimated to exceed $30,000. This figure comes from Recovered, a treatment directory that notes typical prices can reach up to $100 per gram.

“A suspect’s rideshare journey took an unexpected detour when a bag containing over 300 grams of methamphetamine was left behind,” the SFPD stated.

The incident unfolded near the Tenderloin neighborhood, one of San Francisco’s most notorious areas plagued by open-air drug activity, homelessness and violent crime.

Police identified the suspect as 41-year-old Sacramento resident Jessie Ottman-Combs.

Authorities said they quickly located Ottman-Combs after working with the rideshare driver to arrange for the backpack to be returned to its owner, ultimately leading officers to a motel where he was staying.

During a search of the motel room, officers reportedly recovered two cellphones, two tablets and drug paraphernalia.

Police seized all the items, along with the suspected methamphetamine found in the rideshare vehicle, as evidence.

Major Super Funds Fall Short of Meeting Key Target, Raising Concerns

Australian superannuation funds have received unfavorable marks after a mystery shopping evaluation revealed widespread inadequacy in customer service across the sector’s call centers.

Conducted by Super Consumers Australia and released on Tuesday, the assessment highlighted that call centers belonging to 20 of the nation’s major funds provided erratic service lacking empathy, often failing to meet fundamental customer service standards.

However, certain parts of the industry have disputed the report’s findings and the methods employed in the study.

What did the study find?

To carry out the study, Super Consumers Australia engaged Customer Service Benchmarking Australia (CSBA), commissioning them to make 1,000 mystery shopper calls between August and October of the previous year to the 20 funds. The callers posed as potential new members, relatives of non-English speakers, and individuals experiencing financial difficulty.

The resulting average score for customer service performance was reported at 49.9 percent.

Not a single fund cracked 55 per cent — well short of the 80 per cent regarded as the “green zone”, which indicates optimal performance for customer experience across sectors.

By comparison, utilities, banking, education and local government all scored higher than the super sector.

Consistency was also a problem, with individual scores swinging from as low as 20 per cent to as high as 86 per cent, even within the same fund.

CareSuper came out on top with 55 per cent, followed by Rest Super and TelstraSuper.

Seven in 10 callers from customers in vulnerable or distressing situations rated agents five or lower out of 10 for empathy.

Two funds were excluded from the overall rankings because so many calls didn’t get through. AustralianSuper connected only 10 per cent of its calls within 15 minutes, while Team Super connected to 52 per cent, against an 87 per cent average across the rest of the sector.

“Superannuation is mandatory, but good customer service is not. That has to change,” Super Consumers Australia CEO Xavier O’Halloran said. “This pilot study shows that, right now, getting the right support can depend on who answers the phone.”

“People should not have to beg their super fund for basic help. If your fund is not listening, complain. If poor service keeps happening, consider taking your money elsewhere.”

He called for mandatory customer service standards to be implemented for super funds, as is standard in other sectors.

Funds reject report

AustralianSuper rejected the findings, saying the study was conducted while it was mid-transition to a new call centre provider.

“Our customer satisfaction scores right now are the highest they’ve ever been, and our average speed of answer is less than two minutes,” an AustralianSuper spokesperson said.

The Super Members Council, the industry’s peak advocacy body, questioned the study’s methodology — noting the mystery shoppers weren’t members of the funds they called and calls couldn’t proceed past identity verification, a safeguard against scams and fraud.

It also pointed out the study only tested phone contact, not the other channels members use to reach their fund.

Financial regulator, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), has been monitoring the sector’s efforts to improve customer service in the wake of the death benefits revelations.

While many trustees have made positive improvements in their claims handling practices, stragglers have failed to implement basic improvements, ASIC found in a June report.

ASIC has been undertaking a multi-year review focused on improving member interactions with super funds, a spokesperson said in a statement.

A spokesperson for Assistant Treasurer Daniel Mulino said the government was consulting on better standards for the industry and would be releasing draft legislation soon.

Hilton Terminates Worker Over Racist Message to Chelsea Gray

Hilton Grand Vacations has terminated an employee following allegations that the individual sent a racially offensive message to Aces player Chelsea Gray via social media.

Gray revealed the offensive direct message on Instagram after her team’s Sunday defeat to the Fever, highlighting the distressing use of a racial slur within the message.

Social media users swiftly identified the sender as an employee of Hilton Grand Vacations, a standalone timeshare company. Initially stating that an investigation was underway, the company later confirmed to Front Office Sports that the employee had been dismissed.

“The individual responsible has been removed from our employment. This behavior violates numerous company policies and does not align with our values,” read a statement from Hilton Grand Vacations.

In 2017, Hilton Grand Vacations was separated from the Hilton Worldwide hotel group to operate independently.

Front Office Sports reported that the WNBA is also aware of the message sent to the four-time champion and got in touch with team security.

A frustrated Gray captioned the screenshot sharing the racist message: “People act like we make this s–t up. And the audacity to tell us as athletes to ‘shut up and dribble.’”

Front Office Sports indicated the remarks were potentially linked to gambling, with the user’s profile including the words “sports betting” in the bio of the now-deactivated Instagram account.

This incident is the latest in a line of WNBA players fearing over hate and threats they’ve received.

Mercury star Alyssa Thomas said she received death threats following a controversial dustup where she appeared to come down on superstar Caitlin Clark’s neck with her arm during a game against the Fever.

Yellowstone Bison That Made Grandpa’s Viral Moment Faces Official Decision

0

The bison involved in the recent incident at Yellowstone, where it launched a great-grandfather eight feet into the air, will not face euthanasia following the attack.

Park officials informed TMZ that there are no plans to take ‘management action’ against the bison, suggesting the animal will not be culled.

According to the park’s policy, Yellowstone typically refrains from interfering with natural events unless someone’s life is at risk or Congress orders intervention.

The Yellowstone website emphasizes this perspective, stating, ‘Yellowstone is not a zoo or an animal park; it is a wilderness area where countless creatures live in their own habitat on their own terms.’

The 65-year-old victim, Carl McDaniel from Washington State, was attacked by the frustrated bison while he and his grandson were walking near the Bridge Bay Compound in the park around 8:30 p.m. on Friday.

Video of the attack showed the bull becoming frustrated and charging at McDaniel, chasing him through the trees.

Once the animal caught up to the great-grandfather, it hooked him with one of its horns and aggressively flung him into the air.

McDaniel broke his femur – the strongest bone in the body – in four places near his hip in the assault, but was already able to stand on Monday after undergoing surgery the day before, he told CNN.

‘I will be doing physical therapy for the next few days to get to walk, but it was not as catastrophic as it could have been,’ he said.

McDaniel noted that the six-foot-tall animal could have easily killed him.

‘When I was on the ground, immobile, unable to move, he was right on top of me,’ he recounted. ‘He could have stomped on me, he could have gored me, he could have done almost anything to take my life and he did not do so.’

It remains unclear what may have provoked the beast to attack the grandfather on Friday evening, but it came amid bison mating season when the males of the species have increased testosterone levels.

The animal had already been roaming the campground and charging at other campers – including a group of teenage boys who were able to run away from the area – in the moments before McDaniel and his grandson passed by.

It then took a break to rest in the dirt near a picnic table covered with dinner leftovers just off a campground road.

‘When he got up, it was kicking like a rodeo horse who’s clearly very agitated,’ Mike MacLeod, a Montana photographer who captured the ordeal, told The New York Times.

It was then that McDaniel drove up in a pickup truck with his grandson and began taking photos of the bison, apparently catching the beast’s attention.

The national park rarely intervenes with nature as ‘Yellowstone is not a zoo or an animal park; it is the wilderness home to countless creatures living in their own environment on their own terms,’ its website said

‘As soon as they stop taking pictures, the bison stands up and the grandfather’s like, “Let’s get out of here. I don’t like this,”‘ MacLeod added.

Thinking quickly, McDaniel said he then decided to lure the beast away from his grandson.

‘There was little time to decide what to do,’ he recounted to CNN. ‘At that point, he was within 100 yards; he could be to us in seconds, so I told my grandson to run in one direction and I went the other to try and draw him away.’

McDaniel’s grandson was then able to flee and lose the beast, but the Washington state grandfather was not as lucky.

Even after effectively flipping McDaniel into the air, the bison still ‘didn’t leave,’ according to MacLeod.

‘He stood right over Carl, and he was really, really angry,’ MacLeod said. ‘His head’s pumping up and down and he displayed all that aggressive behavior.’

At that point, MacLeod said that he ran at the animal ‘pumping my arms up and down, yelling at the top of my lungs and jumping up trying to look big and distracting.’

The attempt to distract the bull bison apparently paid off, as other onlookers soon joined in and the creature subsequently ran off.

When MacLeod then ran up to McDaniel, who is known as a community activist in the town of Kendall, Washington, ‘the first thing he asked is “How is my grandson?”‘ he told Fox News.

‘It really felt like the grandfather kind of saved his grandson,’ MacLeod said. ‘[He’d] taken the brunt of the attack.’

As McDaniel then waited for an ambulance to arrive, a nurse at the scene tended to his leg while another bystander held his head.

Park regulations require visitors to stay about 75 feet from the bison at all times, leading some online commenters to speculate about whether McDaniel had been closer than that.

However, MacLeod said that ‘most people [saw] that these two did not ask for it’ and that everyone he observed that day kept a ‘respectful distance.’

Where to Stream Taylor Sheridan’s Blockbuster ‘Yellowstone’: Is It Available on Paramount+?

Significant developments have unfolded since the Yellowstone series finale aired on the Paramount Network in December 2024.

Among Taylor Sheridan’s creations, Landman, which launched about a month prior to the Yellowstone conclusion, has soared in popularity, becoming a streaming sensation. In the meantime, two Yellowstone spinoffs have continued the legacy: the Luke Grimes-led Marshals and the Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser) narrative, Dutton Ranch. Paramount+ has further solidified its reputation by hosting a collection of cherished Taylor Sheridan productions.

The first nine-episode season of Dutton Ranch has wrapped up, but viewers can breathe easy—it’s already been renewed for another run. So, while we eagerly await the return of Season 2, what better time than now to indulge in another Yellowstone marathon?

Curious about where to watch the iconic Kevin Costner-led western series online? Decider has the answers you seek. Here’s how you can stream Yellowstone.

Oddly enough, Yellowstone is not part of Paramount+’s streaming lineup, despite being the digital home for Landman, Dutton Ranch, and various other Taylor Sheridan gems.

Umm… Why?

Terrific question. Despite originally airing on Paramount Network, Yellowstone has never been available to watch on Paramount+. Back in 2020, before Paramount+ launched, Peacock secured the streaming rights to Yellowstone.

How To Watch Yellowstone Online In 2026:

All five seasons of Yellowstone are currently streaming on Peacock.

Peacock currently offers two subscription types: Premium with ads and Premium Plus ad-free. Peacock Premium costs $10.99/month, while Premium Plus costs $16.99/month.

You can save a bit by subscribing to one of Peacock’s annual plans, which give you 12 months for the price of 10. These cost either $109.99 with ads or $169.99 without ads.

Peacock Premium Plus is also available to subscribe to via Prime Video with a seven-day free trial that you can’t get by subscribing directly on Peacock.

Additional Yellowstone Streaming Options:

Individual episodes and complete seasons of Yellowstone are available to purchase on Amazon. Plus, as we mentioned above, you can score a free trial of Peacock through Prime Video.

Taylor Sheridan Shows Streaming on Paramount+:

There’s no shortage of Taylor Sheridan shows available on Paramount+. You can currently stream Landman, The Madison, Dutton Ranch, Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, Lioness, Marshals, 1944, and 1883.

Paramount+ offers two subscription plans, Essential and Premium. Right now, you can get started with a seven-day free trial on the Premium plan.

The ad-supported Essential plan typically costs $8.99/month, while the ad-free Premium plan (which comes with Showtime titles and live CBS) costs $13.99/month.

All five seasons of Yellowstone are available to stream on Peacock.

Tragic Collision Claims Life of Man Fleeing ICE Officers in Florida

A man attempting to escape from federal immigration officials and other agents lost his life on Tuesday after being hit by a tractor-trailer, authorities confirmed.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, the 28-year-old Mexican national, whose identity remains undisclosed, was one of four individuals inside a vehicle parked at a gas station in St. Augustine, Florida. The incident occurred shortly before 6:45 a.m.

As agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) confronted them, all four passengers fled on foot. During the escape, one man attempted to cross a busy roadway, where he was struck by a semitruck and tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) stated, “The pedestrian was struck by the tractor-trailer in the right lane and sustained fatal injuries on scene.”

The 64-year-old truck driver stopped immediately and tried to render aid to the man, the agency said. FHP is investigating the traffic fatality.

News Media has reached out to ICE for comment.

The death is the third in about a week involving people fleeing or encountering ICE agents. In Texas, a man was shot and killed after DHS said he tried to ram agents with his vehicle.

In Maine, another man was shot and killed while inside a vehicle.

AOC Asserts Ethical Duty of Networks to Abstain from Airing Trump’s Election Speech

0

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) expressed concerns on Tuesday regarding upcoming televised addresses by President Trump, emphasizing that television networks have an “ethical obligation” to refrain from broadcasting his speech if it lacks a foundation in truth and factual accuracy.

During a conversation with a reporter on Capitol Hill, the prominent member of the progressive “Squad” stated, “I don’t think we should be enabling the dissemination of falsehoods about our election.”

Ocasio-Cortez proposed that media organizations assess Trump’s oratory carefully before deciding on its suitability for broadcast.

She elaborated, noting, “Many news outlets often receive transcripts in advance, and I believe we have a moral duty to avoid airing content that seeks to delegitimize our election unless it’s supported by substantial evidence and facts.”

“Ultimately, the decision should rest on the content of his address,” she added.

Earlier Tuesday, Trump confirmed that his planned address to the nation Thursday night will concern “free and fair elections,” among other topics.

“It’s really, really big for us and our country has to shape up,” the president told reporters in the Oval Office. “But that’s what we’re going to be talking about.”

“It doesn’t get bigger, because without free and fair elections, you don’t have a country,” he added. “We’ll be discussing other things too. But it’s going to be a very big announcement.”

19-year-old Jacoby Fuselier faces charges for alleged sexual assault and attempted drowning near White Oak Bayou

0

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A man has been apprehended following an incident where a woman was assaulted while she was jogging near a bayou close to Houston, officials with the Harris County Constable Precinct 1, led by Alan Rosen, reported.

In a press briefing on Tuesday, Rosen disclosed that 19-year-old Jacoby Fuselier has been identified and arrested as the alleged perpetrator involved in the case.

According to Pct. 1, around 6:30 p.m. on Monday, the woman was walking along White Oak Bayou in the Inwood vicinity when she was brutally attacked. In a brave resistance, she confronted the assailant who not only sexually assaulted her but also tried to drown her.

Rosen explained that the victim managed to break free, make it to her vehicle, and signal for help from a nearby deputy.

Upon receiving the details, Precinct 1 authorities succeeded in locating Fuselier, who was already on their radar for reportedly whistling at another female while biking in the vicinity.

“He fled initially, but we were able to get him into custody,” Rosen said on Tuesday.

Rosen added that the 19-year-old is also being investigated by other law enforcement agencies and has been arrested by Pct. 1 before for theft of a firearm, which he was convicted of.

The constable urged everyone to be vigilant and pay attention to their surroundings while walking or biking on a trail.

Forecasters Alert as Texas Faces Torrential Rains and Potential Flood Risks

Torrential rainstorms swept through South Texas on Tuesday, flooding highways and leaving motorists stranded. Forecasters have issued warnings for additional severe weather, which could trigger dangerous floods in counties already soaked and situated near the Mexican border.

In some of Texas’s rural areas, storms unleashed up to a foot of rain, prompting numerous high-water rescues throughout the region. This deluge resulted in prolonged highway closures near Uvalde, located approximately 80 miles (129 kilometers) west of San Antonio. Meanwhile, Kerr County remained under a flood watch, a sobering reminder of last year’s devastating flooding along the Guadalupe River that claimed over 100 lives.

Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of casualties or injuries from Tuesday’s storms.

The National Weather Service cautioned that more storms could drop an extra foot of rain into Wednesday, posing potentially catastrophic flash flooding risks to areas west of San Antonio. In response, Texas Governor Greg Abbott declared a state of disaster across numerous counties.

“The intensity of the rainfall and the cumulative impact of successive storms will create a significant flash flooding threat through Thursday,” stated the National Weather Service.

Authorities on Tuesday posted videos of rescue crews on boats down flooded streets and one vehicle being swept downstream by fast-moving waters. Five people were rescued by members of the Texas Game Warden Search and Rescue Team and four were rescued by a local game warden, said Maggie Berger, a spokesperson for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

In Uvalde, officials said there had been at least two dozen water rescues. They opened a local event center for anyone displaced by flooding.
