Forecasters Alert as Texas Faces Torrential Rains and Potential Flood Risks

Torrential rainstorms swept through South Texas on Tuesday, flooding highways and leaving motorists stranded. Forecasters have issued warnings for additional severe weather, which could trigger dangerous floods in counties already soaked and situated near the Mexican border.

In some of Texas’s rural areas, storms unleashed up to a foot of rain, prompting numerous high-water rescues throughout the region. This deluge resulted in prolonged highway closures near Uvalde, located approximately 80 miles (129 kilometers) west of San Antonio. Meanwhile, Kerr County remained under a flood watch, a sobering reminder of last year’s devastating flooding along the Guadalupe River that claimed over 100 lives.

Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of casualties or injuries from Tuesday’s storms.

The National Weather Service cautioned that more storms could drop an extra foot of rain into Wednesday, posing potentially catastrophic flash flooding risks to areas west of San Antonio. In response, Texas Governor Greg Abbott declared a state of disaster across numerous counties.

“The intensity of the rainfall and the cumulative impact of successive storms will create a significant flash flooding threat through Thursday,” stated the National Weather Service.

Authorities on Tuesday posted videos of rescue crews on boats down flooded streets and one vehicle being swept downstream by fast-moving waters. Five people were rescued by members of the Texas Game Warden Search and Rescue Team and four were rescued by a local game warden, said Maggie Berger, a spokesperson for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

In Uvalde, officials said there had been at least two dozen water rescues. They opened a local event center for anyone displaced by flooding.

Young Woman Discovered Dead With Movie Cups After Date: Police Investigation Ensues

Tragedy struck when a 21-year-old woman from Arizona was discovered dead, her body concealed in a shallow desert grave alongside movie theater souvenir cups. This grim discovery followed her reported date with a man she had met through social media, who now faces accusations of her murder.

The accused, 24-year-old Domonic Rodolico, is charged with first-degree murder concerning the death of Arianna Jones. Her remains were found in a secluded desert locale close to Lake Pleasant in Maricopa County.

According to an arrest affidavit viewed by Law&Crime, Rodolico is alleged to have orchestrated what is being called a “well-planned” murder date. The day involved taking Jones to the movies followed by a drive into the desert, where police suspect he killed her. Authorities claim that Rodolico visited the desert site twice on July 5, the day of the alleged murder, to prepare.

The affidavit highlighted evidence of premeditation, citing various pieces of equipment found at the scene, including bags of concrete mix, pointing to a meticulously planned crime. “The amount of equipment located appeared as though this incident was well planned,” emphasized the affidavit.

According to police, Rodolico went to Jones’ apartment after visiting the dumping location a third time and picked her up for their movie date. The two of them “went and watched their movie” at a local Harkins theater and then exited, with surveillance footage showing them both carrying “white Harkins-style plastic souvenir cups,” the affidavit says.

“Before the movie, they bought two drinks and snacks at the concession stand,” according to police. Cellphone data reviewed by investigators shows that Rodolico and Jones “traveled north into a remote desert area” before Jones’ phone showed as “no longer being actively used by her,” police say.

“The devices remained in the deserted area for about 45-50 minutes,” according to the affidavit. “The victim’s device disconnected from the network, consistent with being powered off, placed in airplane mode, or otherwise disconnected from the network. About 10 minutes later, Domonic leaves the area where the victim’s cell phone was disconnected from.”

Jones’ family reported her missing on July 7 after they failed to get in touch with her. A review of her phone data showed conversations with Rodolico, which prompted police to conduct “mobile and stationary surveillance” on him, according to the affidavit.

“Domonic was observed on several occasions cleaning his vehicle,” the affidavit says. “Detectives observed Domonic drive his Nissan Sentra to a nearby car wash. He proceeded to vacuum the passenger-side rear area of the vehicle and then used towels to wipe down the same area. Domonic kept the towels inside the vehicle and returned home. Once there, he opened the trunk and was observed manipulating and wiping the interior as though he was cleaning it.”

Police went out to the area where Jones’ phone disconnected and found her “buried in a shallow grave,” according to the affidavit.

At the scene, investigators located “several key pieces of evidence,” including the two Harkins souvenir cups that Rodolico and Jones were seen carrying on video, concrete mix bags, Fry’s plastic water bottles, a bra, latex gloves, a hair accessory consistent with one that Jones wore on video the night they went to the movies, and pieces of a condom wrapper.

“One of the concrete-like bags had a red-like substance and an eyelash strip attached to it,” the affidavit says.

Police have not confirmed how Jones was killed. They interviewed Rodolico and he “provided a fabricated story” about what happened, according to the affidavit.

“He advised he took a girl who randomly added him on Snapchat named ‘Yanna’ to a movie at Harkins located in Norterra,” the affidavit explains. “After the movie, Domonic claimed they drove to an unknown location. … Domonic said they pulled over into a parking lot though was half asphalt and half dirt. The two got into the backseat of his vehicle and began making out. … While the two were kissing in the backseat … two unknown individuals approached the vehicle.”

Rodolico told police that two men “attacked them” and stabbed Jones to death, according to the affidavit. “F—ing die b—,” he recalled the men telling Jones, per the affidavit.

Rodolico allegedly went into great detail about the “extensive amount of blood in the back seat of his vehicle, inside his vehicle, and on the trunk of his car,” according to police. He stated that after getting free, he drove away while the two males were stabbing Jones.

“Domonic said if the victim was missing she probably wasn’t alive,” the affidavit says. Rodolico later admitted to lying to police and that his story “wasn’t true,” according to the affidavit.

“Domonic then said he was instructed to bring the victim to the desert at an unknown male’s order but he didn’t know he was going to kill her,” the affidavit alleges. “Domonic was unable to provide how any communication occurred between him and this unknown male. Domonic also admitted to going to the same desert location prior to picking up the victim.”

Asked if he killed her, Rodolico “hesitated while looking down and said no,” according to police. He allegedly struggled to maintain consistent eye contact, remained silent when trying to think of responses and refused to answer “confronting questions,” the affidavit says.

“Domonic did not appear to show any remorse for his actions and believed this was just a missing person case where he happened to be the last person to see the victim alive,” the document concludes.

Rodolico was being held Monday on a $2 million bond.

Revitalize Your Knees After 60: 4 Simple Bed Exercises for Smoother Skin Than Gym Machines

0

Are crepey knees giving you trouble? Discover how four simple exercises you can perform in bed can help, especially after the age of 60.

>

Although crepey knees are often noticed in the mirror, addressing the issue starts from within. Enhancing the shape of your thighs, ensuring the knee joint feels supported, and incorporating regular lower body strength exercises can all contribute to improved appearance. While exercise won’t magically transform your skin’s texture overnight, it can certainly enhance the muscle tone beneath it.

The knee serves as a complex junction. It relies on muscles from the thigh, hip, and lower leg, all of which affect its appearance, sensation, and function. When these muscles weaken, the area can appear less firm and supportive. However, specific bed exercises targeting the quads, hamstrings, and hips can effectively strengthen them without the need for gym equipment.

In working with clients, I pay particular attention to their ability to create muscle tension without tensing their entire body. Effective knee exercises for those over 60 should be controlled rather than intense. A firm mattress offers a supportive surface for practicing slow repetitions, focused muscle contractions, and precise positioning before progressing to more challenging standing exercises.

This exercise routine is designed to keep movements straightforward and targeted. Aim to practice it two to four times weekly. Move deliberately, emphasizing the engagement of the muscles around your knees and thighs.

Record-Shattering $50 Million T. Rex Fossil Sale Makes History at Auction

0

In a monumental sale, a Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton affectionately called “Gus” fetched a staggering $50.1 million at Sotheby’s auction on Tuesday, setting a new record for the highest price ever paid for dinosaur bones at auction, the auction house confirmed.

The fossil, dating back an astonishing 67 million years, far surpassed its predicted value of $20 million to $30 million. The ten-minute auction saw a heated contest among seven bidders, Sotheby’s reported.

The Associated Press noted that the victorious bidder opted for phone participation and has chosen to keep their identity confidential.

“This result has been years in the making, and I’m thrilled to see that the hard work and dedication of Thomas Heitkamp and his team has been recognized,” Cassandra Hatton, Sotheby’s vice chairman and worldwide head of Science & Natural History, said in a statement.

“Gus is not only an exceptional find, but a specimen that’s been excavated, documented, prepared and cared for with real excellence. The market responds when great specimens are taken care of in the right way.”

Standing about 12½ feet tall and stretching roughly 38 feet, Gus is one of the largest and most complete T. rex specimens ever discovered, according to Sotheby’s.

The skeleton includes 183 fossil bone elements, making it about 61% complete by bone count and representing an estimated 75% to 80% of the dinosaur’s original bone mass.

The skeleton also offers clues about what Gus endured during its lifetime. Sotheby’s said several ribs and belly bones show fractures that healed before the dinosaur died, while bite marks on parts of the skull and other bones may have been caused by scavenging.

The road to Tuesday’s record-breaking sale began on a cattle ranch in Harding County, South Dakota.

According to Sotheby’s, ranch owner Gary “Gus” Licking had spent years finding teeth and small bone fragments on his property before partnering with Thomas Heitkamp and his team from Theropoda Expeditions to search for something larger.

Licking pointed the team toward an area of his 6,500-acre ranch where he believed something significant lay beneath the surface, and that is where the fossil was ultimately discovered.

Licking died in 2022, about a year after the excavation began, before the full scope of the discovery was known. The dinosaur was later named in his honor.

However, unearthing Gus was no small task.

Sotheby’s said Heitkamp’s team spent three field seasons excavating the fossil before years of lab work cleaning, documenting and assembling the skeleton.

“This is our longest-term project ever,” Hatton said in a video released by Sotheby’s. “From the day the first bone was discovered, we’ve been going back and forth to South Dakota to oversee this whole process.”

Dana Licking, Gary’s widow, said she was grateful the fossil was uncovered.

“I’m really grateful that they found it because it could have been lost, and nobody ever would learn anything about it,” she said in the Sotheby’s video. “To make it come to life takes a lot of love and care and dedication, and they stopped at nothing to make that happen.”

Heitkamp said uncovering the massive predator required years of persistence.

“This specimen took three years to excavate,” he said in the Sotheby’s video. “In the end, our diligence paid off, and we were delighted to discover what turned out to be a huge and incredibly complete T. rex specimen.”

The record-breaking sale also renewed a long-running debate over whether rare dinosaur fossils belong in private collections or public museums.

The Society of Vertebrate Paleontology said specimens like Gus are best preserved in museums, where they can remain available for scientific research and public education.

According to the AP, the group hopes the fossil’s new owner chooses to make it accessible to the public.

“Our hope is that the new owner recognizes the extraordinary scientific and educational value of Gus the T. rex and that they aim to keep it in the public trust by immediately donating it to an accredited natural history museum,” the group’s president-elect, Kristi Curry Rogers, said in a statement, according to the AP.

Gus broke the previous auction record set by “Apex,” a stegosaurus skeleton that sold for $44.6 million at Sotheby’s in 2024 and is now on long-term loan to the American Museum of Natural History in New York. Before that, the T. rex known as “Stan” sold for nearly $32 million in 2020, according to the AP.

Albanese Unveils Groundbreaking AI Strategy Despite Criticism from Labor Insiders

0

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is set to unveil the Office of Artificial Intelligence, a new initiative aimed at creating a national strategy to guide the advancement of this dynamic technology.

Positioned within the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, the Office will spearhead the development of Australian Standards addressing AI and its influence on areas such as energy, copyright, productivity, education, and labor rights.

Albanese emphasizes that “Australia will be a trailblazer, being the first nation globally to consolidate these critical issues into a cohesive national framework.”

This announcement coincides with interest from major technology firms, including Anthropic, known for the AI chatbot Claude, as they explore investment opportunities in AI data centers within Australia. This interest comes amid rising concerns regarding the impact on Australian intellectual property.

Albanese is also poised to address Anthropic’s prior assertions that their commitment to investing in AI projects and infrastructure hinges on clear copyright policies. He argues that establishing the proper regulatory framework will be instrumental in attracting business to Australia.

“And getting this right will enhance our appeal to international investors, by delivering greater clarity and speed for approvals, and a streamlined process for verifying compliance,” he says.

Digital duty of care on the way

Set to speak in Sydney, Albanese will confirm the national framework adds to the government’s ongoing design of digital duty of care and mitigation of risks posed by AI on children and national security.

“We know that both extremists and state actors already use AI to create propaganda aimed at young people – and to spread disinformation that targets democracies,” he says.

Labor MP Ed Husic, a former industry minister, said giving big tech social licence was a path “sadly doomed to failure”.

“We tried self-regulation for … a couple of decades, found out that it didn’t work, and it won’t work on a financial basis for these firms,” he told Sky News on Tuesday.

“None of these firms will go one out from the other to bring in guardrails to limit the risks.”

Kelly Bensimon Survives Dangerous Uber Accident: A Miraculous Escape

0

Kelly Bensimon recently experienced a terrifying encounter with reality.

The “Golden Life” star from E! and well-known chef Andrew Molen found themselves injured on Monday afternoon following a severe head-on collision in Sarasota, Florida.

Sources reveal that the duo was in an Uber that turned left onto the busy Tamiami Trail, only to be hit by an oncoming vehicle. The impact was strong enough to deploy the airbags.

The accident resulted in Bensimon, Molen, and the driver of the other car being transported to the hospital.

Reflecting on the incident, Bensimon expressed her gratitude, stating, “I’m lucky to have walked away alive.”

“My right arm is a mess,” the real estate agent tells us. “My head went straight into the back of the seat. It was really bad. I was unconscious for a couple seconds. I was freaking out. I thought I broke my arm.”

The former “Real Housewives of New York City” star says doctors performed X-rays on her arm and a CAT scan at the hospital.

When we spoke Tuesday, she was still reeling.

“I am totally out of it, I am in so much pain,” she said. “My head went back and banged [Andrew] on his chin. There were makeup marks on the airbag.”

Molen— a classically trained chef who swapped restaurant life to be a private chef for the ultra wealthy — saw the car coming and yelled “brake, brake,” the pair recalled.

“[The other car] came straight on,” Molen claimed. “You didn’t hear brakes screech. He came straight in at full blast. We got hit so hard. Kelly went flying. I hit the ceiling. Airbags went off. There was dust everywhere.”

Molen continued, “Kelly was out cold. She kept falling back,” he said, “The car spun.”

Molen tells us he hurt his neck and will be going back to the doctor. He has already canceled five events this week.

“I am in a lot of pain,” he said. “They had to help us into ambulances.”

We’re told the driver of the other car was taken into an ambulance in a stretcher.

Both cars were Buicks.

Bensimon was in town for an open house for her $22 million listing at 3315 Bay Shore Road. Molen was serving up food and doing kitchen demonstrations for the event.

The pair were also filming an episode for a digital lifestyle series they are developing called “The Chef and the Housewife,” which “goes beyond showcasing extraordinary properties by bringing ultra-high-net-worth living to life through food, entertaining, design, and the experiences that define exceptional homes,” according to a release.

Sarasota Police tell Page Six that the crash report is still in progress. Uber did not respond to a request for comment.

Unraveling the Enigma: Mom Disappears After Missing Camp Pickup

0

The search intensifies as it moves into its second week for a missing mother-of-two from California, who vanished shortly after leaving her car near a favored hiking trail.

Angelica Brophy, a 44-year-old emergency room nurse residing in Oceanside, was last seen on July 6 after dropping off her daughter at a local camp. She did not return to pick her up later that day.

Surveillance footage captured Brophy departing from Harrah’s Resort Southern California Casino around 3:30 p.m. A subsequent parking ticket placed her at Palomar Mountain Skate Park approximately 50 minutes later.

Her family has not heard from her since she failed to collect her daughter. Her vehicle was found parked at the skate park several days after her disappearance.

Family members mentioned that Brophy was known to hike regularly in the area around the park. When she didn’t come home, her husband reached out to her brother and then contacted the police.

As a frantic search ensued, detectives attempted to ping Brophy’s cellphone, but it had either been turned off or ran out of battery.

Search and rescue teams have been scouting across over 1,800 acres in Palomar Mountain State Park ever since Brophy disappeared. With no trace of the beloved mother, efforts have focused on a pond in the park.

‘She loves life and we really just need her back,’ her sister-in-law Lisa Fabregas told NBC San Diego. ‘She is one of the most wonderful, thoughtful women that I know. She’s a very good mom. She will do anything for her children.’

‘She is funny and kooky, and will sing at the top of her lungs and will not have one note in tune, but she does not care,’ she added.

Manny Fabregas, one of Brophy’s five older brothers, said the family is desperately waiting on any information about her whereabouts.

‘We’re all in a state of limbo right now and it’s hard to move on without any leads,’ he told NBC News.

Another brother, Martin Fabregas, said he is trying hard not to let his mind wander into ‘dark places.’

‘It’s a wait-and-see. We’re trying to encourage everybody to stay positive, stay strong,’ he told the outlet.

The family have been plastering North County with missing person posters for Brophy in the hopes somebody has seen her.

She was last seen wearing black leggings and a gray t-shirt, according to the poster.

Chiefland Woman Receives 10-Year Sentence for Involvement with Minor in Alachua

0

Staff report

ALACHUA, Fla. – In a significant legal conclusion, Chiarel Ruby Davis, a 39-year-old resident of Chiefland, has been sentenced to a decade behind bars, subsequently followed by five years under sexual offender probation. This outcome follows her plea of nolo contendere to charges of engaging in unlawful activities with a teenage victim aged 16 or 17.

The Alachua Police Department initiated their investigation back in May 2025 upon receiving a report from a concerned parent. Davis was accused of not only engaging in illicit sexual activities with the minor but also of distributing marijuana to the teenager. Furthermore, she reportedly sent explicit communications, both messages and images, and orchestrated unsupervised meetings with the minor, which took place without any parental approval. Specifics of the arrest remain undisclosed, as the report was sealed.

In connection with the case, Nicholas Jabari Scott also faced arrest. He was charged with distributing explicit images to a victim and for maintaining inappropriate communications with the juvenile, actions that are in direct violation of Florida’s legal statutes. Scott is currently housed in Alachua County Jail, awaiting further legal proceedings.

After entering a plea of no contest on May 19, 2026, Davis faced a potential maximum sentence of 15 years in state prison for unlawful sexual activity with a minor. However, several other charges against her were eventually dismissed. At the sentencing hearing on July 13, Judge Susanne Wilson Bullard rendered a judgment of 10 years in prison, inclusive of credit for four days already served, with an additional five-year period of probation as a registered sexual offender to follow.

Mason Greenwood in at Fenerbahce

Fenerbahce made a splash on social media, heralding Mason Greenwood’s arrival after finalizing a permanent transfer from Marseille valued at approximately £34 million.

Manchester United are due 40 per cent of the overall fee, although 20 per cent of that will go to Getafe, who took Greenwood on loan for the 2023-24 season.

As previously reported, that should work out around £10.2million.

Arsenal still in for Alvarez

Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez remains an option for Arsenal.

The Argentina forward would prefer to join Barcelona if they can reach agreement with Atletico but that relationship remains strained.

Arsenal are monitoring developments in case the opportunity to sign the 26-year-old opens up. Atletico have dismissed offers of £100m.

Two suitors for Rangers’ Souttar

Leicester City and Sheffield United are showing interest in Rangers defender John Souttar.

The 29-year-old signed a new one-year deal at Rangers in February but did not travel to the club’s pre-season training camp in Spain, with Brazilian striker Danilo also staying at home.

Leeds want another keeper with Torino keen on Perri

Torino are pushing to sign Leeds United goalkeeper Lucas Perri but need the Elland Road side to sign another keeper first.

Leeds have seen out-of-contract Illan Meslier join Arsenal and Karl Darlow join Manchester United.

They have handed a new deal to Alex Cairns but are continuing to look for a new No1. Talks have taken place with Parma for Zion Suzuki but other options are also being explored.

Leeds remain in talks with Sassuolo over centre back Tarik Muharemovic and Southampton over Shea Charles. But, again, they have alternatives.

Tielemans proud to join United

Manchester United’s midfield overhaul has moved on with the £35million signing of Youri Tielemans. The 29-year-old Belgian, who has joined from Aston Villa after his release clause was triggered, has signed a five-year deal at Old Trafford.

During Arsenal’s title-winning campaign last term, Trossard scored eight goals and registered 11 assists in 50 matches in all competitions.

Arsenal have been talking to Bruges over a deal for Christos Tzolis among other targets.

Leeds United are bringing in Cardiff City head analyst Matthew Jenkins who had been at the club for eight years.

City contemplating Bouaddi move

Manchester City are continuing to assess the figures being demanded by Lille for midfield prodigy Ayyoub Bouaddi.

As Daily Mail Sport have reported, City have retained a long-standing interest in the teenage Morocco international and want to bring in another midfielder alongside Elliot Anderson with long-term concerns over Rodri, who has still to agree a new contract.

Nico Gonzalez could be sold while Tijjani Reijnders, who had tentative interest from Atletico Madrid, could also go.

Bouaddi’s performances have seen his value rise above £60m which was considered his asking price before the World Cup.

Lille ideally wanted him to stay another season on loan as part of the deal but negotiations are open.

Meanwhile, Stade Brestois are among clubs showing interest in City defender Juma Bah who was on loan at Nice last season.

The 20-year-old, 6ft 5ins centre back could be among the players figuring in a showcase game at City today.

Darlow deal done

Manchester United have completed the signing of goalkeeper Karl Darlow.

The Wales international joins on a free transfer after his contract expired at Leeds.

Darlow finished last season as Leeds’ number one and kept five clean sheets. They wanted to re-sign him while Everton and Tottenham also held talks.

Bristol City hope for Ballard compromise

Bristol City are working to find a compromise with Leyton Orient over a fee for striker Dom Ballard.

The 21-year-old, who scored 23 goals in League One last season, is set on a move to Ashton Gate but so far they have been unable to agree a deal with Orient who have been pushing for over £5million.

Southampton are also due sell-on percentage for the striker who, at the 2026 EFL Awards, was named in the League One Team of the Season, Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season.

Villa defender heading for Spain loan spell

Aston Villa right back Andres Garcia is closing on a loan move to Getafe.

The 23-year-old joined Villa from Levante 18 months ago in a £6million deal but made only 8 appearances last season.

Villa are looking to juggle a number of transfers this window to meet UEFA financial requirements.

They still want to strengthen after agreeing to sign Johan Manzambi from Freiburg but are losing Youri Tielemans to Manchester United for £36m and Lucas Digne to Paris St Germain for £8.5m.

There is also interest around Ollie Watkins and while they don’t want to lose Morgan Rogers, offers from Arsenal are anticipated.

Sunderland land Thomas Menuier

Sunderland are signing Thomas Meunier on a two year contract.

The Belgium international, who was part of their World Cup squad, is a free agent after leaving Lille and has been talking to Valencia.

Hull City had also opened discussions with the 34-year-old right back but he has travelled to the North East this morning to complete a medical and sign for Sunderland.

The Argentine has been granted permission to seek a new club and is not in Xabi Alonso’s plans.

Chelsea want £40m and a permanent sale as Manchester United also retain a sell-on clause.

Roma enquired a week ago and their latest proposal is for an initial loan with an option to buy for around £30m. It would become an obligation if certain conditions are met and the loan would carry a fee of £4.3m.

Chelsea maintain they want a guaranteed sale.

Chelsea are also looking to move on Axel Disasi, Benoit Badiashile and Filip Jorgensen. Mamadou Sarr could leave on loan amid Premier League interest.

Vuskovic leaves Spurs for Brighton

Luka Vuskovic has completed his move from Tottenham to Brighton for £46million plus £4m achievable add-ons.

Spurs have secured a 20 per cent sell-on clause for the Croatia international and buy-back matching rights.

Vuskovic and his representatives made clear his desire to play regular first team football in the season ahead and did not want another loan.

The 19-year-old centre half has had three separate loans since Spurs struck a deal to sign him from Hajduk Split for £12m.

Last season at Hamburg was a huge success but Roberto De Zerbi was unable to offer the guarantee of regular first team football at Spurs.

De Zerbi has reinforced in central defence with Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke, who they signed from Brighton for £52m.

So, Spurs will bank a huge profit on a young player who never made a competitive appearance for them and whose wages they have never paid.

Only Harry Kane and Kyle Walker have been sold by Spurs for bigger fees in the last 10 years.
