NYC Voters Outraged as City Council Approves Controversial 18% Salary Increase

0

It’s an outrageous move on numerous fronts: City Council members are attempting to pass a substantial pay raise for themselves.

Mere days after the approval of a colossal $126 billion city budget, they introduced a proposal to increase their salaries by over 18%, effective retroactively from January 1, accompanied by automatic annual raises of 2% thereafter.

These increases would elevate council members’ salaries to $175,500, placing them in an upper-middle-class bracket, more than doubling the city’s median income of $81,228.

This decision demonstrates utter disregard for city voters, whom the politicians evidently believe will overlook this move, as well as a blatant disregard for the City Charter, which outlines a completely different method for salary increases.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Speaker Julie Menin should be held accountable if they permit this to go forward, instead of standing up to members seeking this financial windfall.

And shame on the supposed good-government groups currying favor by claiming a $27,000 increase will attract superior candidates.

More From Post Editorial Board

Hah! The council awarded itself fat $30,000 raises in 2016 with no sign of improvement at all; the simple fact is that the job was never meant to be a good career move, but rather a public service that might interrupt a normal career.

Los Angeles and Chicago pay their councilmembers more — and those towns are now worse disasters than Gotham.

The City Charter requires the convening of a pay panel every four years — specifically during the third year of a mayoral administration — to prevent immediate conflicts of interest: By moving now, the council majority would be declaring themselves proud to line their own pockets.

Private-sector workers don’t get automatic cost-of-living adjustments, nor do regular city workers: What entitles the council members to them, other than “we think we can get away with it”?

Mamdani should order his City Charter Commission to fix this loophole by asking city voters to explicitly ban this self-dealing.

And if Menin means to be seen as a real leader, she can’t just announce she won’t take the raise: She needs to refuse to allow a floor vote on this outrage.

If neither of them steps up, they’re declaring that they, too, hold regular New Yorkers in complete contempt.

Brad Pitt’s Kids Zahara and Maddox Announce New Name Changes

0

Two of Brad Pitt’s children have taken steps to formally separate themselves from the association with their well-known father.

According to documents accessed by the Daily Mail, Zahara and Maddox, Pitt’s daughter and son respectively, have issued public notices announcing their plans to remove ‘Pitt’ from their surnames.

These announcements appeared in the Los Angeles Daily Journal, spread across the months of June and July.

The Daily Mail has contacted representatives for both Jolie and Pitt seeking their viewpoints on the matter.

One such notice reads: ‘Petitioner Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt filed a petition with this court for a decree changing names as follows: Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt to Zahara Marley Jolie.’

‘Petitioner Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt filed a petition with this court for a decree changing names as follows: Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt to Maddox Chivan Jolie,’ the other says.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s children, Zahara (center) and Maddox (right), have now published notices revealing their intention to drop their father’s last name

The notices both invite dissenting parties to appear at a scheduled hearing over the matter; Zahara’s is scheduled for September 28 while Maddox’s is on September 14.

In the state of California, those seeking to legally change their name must publish an Order to Show Cause – a document requesting the name change – for four weeks in a row in a newspaper before their court date.

It comes a month after Zahara filed a petition requesting that her new name be Zahara Marley Jolie.

Maddox also filed to drop the actor’s last name in late May.

Zahara publicly dropped the last name three years ago when she joined a sorority at Spelman College.

‘My name is Zahara Marley Jolie. And [I] landed all the way from the Golden State in the city full of angels: Los Angeles, California,’ she appeared to say while introducing herself to sorority sisters, via People.

She also went by Zahara Marley Jolie during her graduation ceremony, which her father reportedly skipped, according to TMZ.

‘Nothing prevented him from showing up for her. Or ever visiting her. The day was about all she accomplished. Not whether he was willing to attend,’ a source close to Jolie told the publication.

However, multiple sources have exclusively spoken to the Daily Mail in defense of Pitt, insisting that he is not the absent father he has been portrayed as, and he wants a relationship with his six children.

Maddox was also credited as Maddox Jolie-Pitt while working as a production assistant on his mother’s biopic Maria.

Jolie and Pitt’s other children, Shiloh and Vivienne, have also stopped using the actor’s last name. It is not known if Pax has stopped using the name as well.

Last year, Shiloh, who was born Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, legally changed her name to Shiloh Jolie shortly after turning 18.

At the time, in a statement shared with People, Shiloh’s lawyer Peter Levine said she ‘made an independent and significant decision following painful events,’ adding that she was ‘merely following legal process’ when publishing notice of the change.

One month after Shiloh filed to drop her father’s last name, a source told People that Pitt’s relationship with his older children remained strained.

‘He has virtually no contact with the adult kids. His engagement with the younger kids is more limited in recent months because of his filming schedule,’ the insider said.

In May 2024, Vivienne was credited as Vivienne Jolie, not Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, on the playbill for the Broadway musical The Outsiders.

The family divide was again brought to the forefront when Pitt’s mother, Jane Etta Pitt, died last year at the age of 84.

Sources revealed at the time that she had been cut off from her grandchildren for about nine years, and they did not get a chance to speak before her death.

‘The most gut-wrenching part is that Angelina kept the kids away from his parents, from their own grandparents,’ one insider alleged to the Daily Mail last August.

Pitt’s relationship with son Pax – who previously called his father a ‘world-class a**hole’ and accused him of making his younger siblings ‘tremble in fear’ – doesn’t seem to be any better.

A source previously told the Daily Mail how Pitt felt after the 22-year-old was pictured stumbling out of the Chateau Marmont last year, propped up by several friends.

‘He has zero concern with what Pax does or doesn’t do. [Pax’s] actions reflect who he is,’ the insider said. ‘Brad honestly considers his relationship with Pax unfixable,’ they added.

The source went on to say that the actor doesn’t appear to be planning any outreach to either of his adopted sons: ‘Pax and Maddox have made it abundantly clear how they feel, and Brad has nothing to say about either of them.’

As for his other children, the source said that Pitt ‘holds out hope that the others will one day come around. Time heals wounds.’

A source close to Jolie also hit back at her ex-husband at the time and said: ‘Brad continues to play the victim. His fractured relationship with his children is a direct result of how he has treated them.’

‘He should stop blaming others. If he wants to rebuild a relationship with the kids, he should acknowledge his own actions and make amends.’

After meeting on the set of the 2005 film Mr and Mrs Smith, Pitt and Jolie were seen as Hollywood’s ‘It’ couple during their long-term relationship.

A source previously told TMZ that Pitt thinks Jolie is keeping their children from seeing him

A source previously told TMZ that Pitt thinks Jolie is keeping their children from seeing him

They married in August 2014 during a secret ceremony in the South of France and welcomed three children together during their romance: Shiloh in 2006 and twins Vivienne and Knox in 2008.

They also adopted two more, Zahara and Pax, and Pitt legally adopted the son that Angelina had adopted before they got together, Maddox.

But in 2016, it came to an explosive end after the pair got into an alleged physical altercation while on a private flight with their six children and Jolie later filed for divorce.

Jolie later claimed that Pitt ‘choked’ one of the children during the horrifying dispute and ‘struck’ another in the face, leaving her and the youngsters feeling like ‘hostages’ and cowering in fear under a blanket for hours until they landed.

She also alleged that he grabbed her by the head, slammed her against a wall, and violently shook her at one point during the flight – which resulted in her injuring her back and elbow.

Pitt’s representative called Jolie’s account ‘completely untrue’ to CNN at first, but then released an amended statement to the publication that read, ‘Angelina’s story continues to evolve each time she tells it.

‘Brad has accepted responsibility for what he did but will not for things he didn’t do. He has been on the receiving end of every type of personal attack and misrepresentation.

‘Thankfully, the various public authorities she has tried to use against him over the past six years have made their own independent decisions. Brad will continue to respond in court as he has consistently done.’

Since they split, the two stars have been embroiled in one of the most publicized legal battles in Hollywood history over custody of their children, as well as the winery that they once owned together.

In May 2021, after years of duking it out in court, Pitt and Jolie were officially granted joint custody of their six children, but one month later, the judge’s decision was thrown out.

Pitt has since moved on romantically and has been dating jewelry designer Ines de Ramon for the last few years.

Former RHOC Star Alexis Bellino Reflects on Defining Friendship with Heather Dubrow and Shares Insightful Response

RHOC's Alexis Bellino Recalls Asking Heather Dubrow If She Was a "Real Friend" or a "TV Friend," and Reveals Heather's Response

Credit: Bravo

Alexis Bellino has opened up about a past phone conversation with Heather Dubrow, during which she questioned whether their relationship was genuine or merely for the cameras. Bellino also recounted Heather’s reaction, as producer Carlos King suggested Heather is afraid to cross Tamra Judge.

During the kickoff of season 20 of Real Housewives of Orange County, Jennifer Pedranti claimed that Heather spoke unfavorably about Tamra to other cast members following their reunion dinner. Over the years, this has fueled speculation among fans who believe Heather has been reluctant to confront Tamra directly about her controversial behavior.

On the podcast Reality with The King, Alexis Bellino responded to host Carlos King’s assertion that Heather Dubrow and Tamra Judge are not actually friends.

“This is how Heather views Tamra: I keep my friends close, but I keep my enemies closer,” said Carlos, a former Bravo producer. “She does not want the wrath of Tamra. And in Heather Dubrow’s mind, she feels like, ‘I would rather have Tamra as a fair-weather friend than an enemy,’ because we all know what happens when Tamra has an enemy.”

“Heather is so fake on camera where she wants to appear [like], ‘Oh no, Tamra, I do call you out,’” Carlos continued. “Do you? Because all these ladies said, and they’re not lying, that you spent that dinner talking the most s**t about Tamra, only to call her the next day, saying, ‘Hey, how are you?’”

Alexis then recalled her own phone call with Heather when they were both still filming.

“For the whole time I was on the phone [with Heather], when we were filming back in season 18, and even years before, I would say, ‘Are you my TV friend? Are you my real friend? I need to know,’” said Alexis. “I think, in Heather’s mind … she means [work friend] when she [calls Tamra a] ‘historical friend.’”

“So I would always say that. I was like, ‘I just want to know. I want to know how much can I trust you with information? Are you my true friend?’” she went on. “Heather probably said, when I asked it, ‘Well, Alexis, come on. Look at what we’ve gone through, what we’ve talked about.’”

According to Alexis, Tamra claimed she herself is Alexis’ “true friend.”

Deadly Bangkok Pub Fire Sparks Urgent Safety Overhaul as Casualties Climb to 30

0

In a tragic update on Tuesday, authorities reported that the death toll from a catastrophic fire at a live music pub in Thailand’s bustling capital has sadly risen to 30. The tragic incident has prompted Bangkok’s governor to pledge more rigorous safety inspections, while police delve into potential negligence and breaches of safety protocols.

This harrowing blaze, marking one of Thailand’s deadliest in recent history, swept through the Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao pub in the city’s northern Chatuchak district just before midnight on Sunday. Witnesses recounted scenes of chaos as an explosion and a horizontal blaze of fire and smoke rapidly engulfed the single-story establishment.

By Tuesday, 24 individuals remained in critical condition, though the number of those who had been treated and discharged continued to grow. Unfortunately, three people who were hospitalized succumbed to their injuries, bringing the grim tally higher still.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed on Tuesday morning that no Australians appeared to have been impacted by this devastating event.

“We stand ready to provide consular assistance if required,” stated the spokesperson, extending support should any related needs arise.

The pub, located at a busy intersection next to train stations and two shopping malls, is one of a cluster of similar bars often crowded on weekend nights, serving food, alcohol and offering live music and televised football.

Authorities say an electrical short circuit in a ceiling air conditioner could have triggered the fire in the pub, which underwent a safety inspection in April. Police are investigating whether exits were obstructed and the use of flammable materials for stage decorations and soundproofing.

“We’ve set up a committee to investigate the truth, what should be improved and what rules should be changed” Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt told a press conference on Tuesday.

“We will do more random checks.”

Police said 34 people had been interviewed so far and charges would be considered after facts and evidence had been gathered. The owner is among those being treated in an intensive care unit.

‘We apologise deeply’

At a Bangkok morgue on Tuesday, rescue workers were seen moving a coffin of one of the victims, surrounded by television cameras and a throng of reporters as emotional family members and friends arrived to collect the body.

Outside Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao, some of the relatives were mourning those killed as forensics personnel gathered evidence from the scene.

The pub on its Facebook page apologised over the fire and said it was cooperating fully with the investigation.

“We apologise deeply over the very sad events that took place and express our condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and send our support to those injured,” it said in a post that had hundreds of comments, many expressing anger and questioning its safety measures.

The pub did not answer calls or respond immediately to a request for comment on the investigation’s preliminary findings.

Thailand has experienced several major fires at entertainment venues that are subject to fire safety inspections, though protocols are not always strictly adhered to.

A nightclub fire in Chonburi killed at least 13 people in 2022, and 65 people died, and about 200 were injured in a New Year’s Eve blaze at a packed Bangkok club in 2009, where an investigation uncovered corruption and safety violations.

In Bangkok’s famous Khaosan Road backpacker district packed with pubs and nightclubs and about 10km from the site of the fire, visitors expressed sadness over the incident but said they had no concerns about safety.

“It doesn’t worry us. All the places that we’ve been have been very safe,” said Connor McLernon, 30, a tourist from Boston in the United States.

Unveiling NYCHA’s Chaos: The $465,000 Plumber Scandal and Its Deep-Rooted Dysfunction

0

Looking to earn the kind of salary a finance professional might enjoy on Wall Street without ever being there? Consider plumbing work for the New York City Housing Authority.

Between July 2024 and June 2025, Jakub Markowski, a plumbing supervisor at NYCHA, took home an impressive $465,000. This amount included $332,000 for nearly 2,600 hours of overtime, which surpasses the combined salaries of both the mayor and the City Council speaker.

Simultaneously, while receiving these substantial paychecks, Markowski was also running two private plumbing businesses.

Currently, Markowski is under investigation by the Buildings Department.

As advocates for the city’s growing socialist left demand more housing under public or nonprofit management, the history of NYCHA unravels tales of inefficiency and corruption, with Markowski emerging as its most recent noteworthy case.

Lest we forget, Shola Olatoye, NYCHA’s chairwoman under Mayor Bill de Blasio, lied for years under oath to the federal government about nonexistent lead-paint inspections and other safety failures.

As part of the feds’ settlement with the city, since January 2019, an independent monitor has been in place to oversee NYCHA’s compliance.

Yet federal oversight has not stopped the rot. In 2024, Damien Williams, the Biden-appointed US attorney for the Southern District of New York, charged 70 NYCHA current and former employees with bribery and extortion.

The takedown represented the largest number of bribery charges brought in a single day in the Justice Department’s history.

All 70 pleaded guilty or were convicted.

Nor has public ownership delivered livable conditions for tenants. In fact, they’re bad enough to qualify as a moral stain on this city.

On July 6, the federal monitor released its latest quarterly report. Despite modest progress, it shows that NYCHA buildings are riddled with hazards.

Under the federal agreement, NYCHA is supposed to ensure that no more than 15% of mold complaints involve visible mold of 10 square feet or more. In the latest report, 86% did.

Without acknowledging why city government has long proved such a poor landlord, Democratic Socialists want to put even more housing under public or nonprofit control, in the name of affordability.

The far left has not shown why NYCHA is a success story in disguise, or why new public housing wouldn’t devolve into similar dysfunction.

Instead, they fall back on the claim that NYCHA is underfunded.

About 80% of NYCHA buildings are 50 years old or more, well past most buildings’ useful lives.

Rents cannot rise to support an estimated $80 billion in backlogged repairs and capital needs. The system has thus grown more dependent on taxpayer-funded city subsidies.

NYCHA’s capital expenditures on capital improvements increased 48% between 2021 and 2025, to $1.2 billion per year, with most new money coming from city and state sources.

One big reason for NYCHA’s recent financial distress is that more tenants aren’t paying their rent.

NYCHA collected only 68.6% of its anticipated rent in fiscal 2025, down sharply from 89.6% six years earlier.

And it’s not because their rents are too high. NYCHA households’ rents average $621 per month, capped at 30% of household gross income.

Only 38.4% of NYCHA families are employed, and the average income of a NYCHA household was $26,129.

Sadly, they’re trapped by the system’s disincentives to work and earn more, a broken public-education system and the lack of new housing supply.

Meanwhile, it costs NYCHA $1,419 per month on average to operate and barely maintain each unit.

Despite 165,000 families waiting to enter, NYCHA has just 6,740 vacant units and takes an average of 371 days to turn one around.

By contrast, the private sector maintains pre-1974 rent-stabilized housing at an average cost of $1,192 per month.

In buildings entirely composed of stabilized units, that figure is $1,037— about 27% less than NYCHA’s average.

In May, a typical market apartment in Manhattan and Brooklyn spent only about 37 days before being rented.

Rent-stabilized owners effectively sustain an affordable-housing program for 1 million units — over five times NYCHA’s 177,000 — and at lower average cost.

Yet Mayor Mamdani and his housing czar Cea Weaver treat private landlords as villains.

The duo is planning to funnel bankrupt buildings to their friends in the nonprofit-housing world.

Yet, if anything, NYCHA offers real-world evidence against greater public-sector involvement.

Even with supposedly strict processes that aim to prevent favoritism, kickbacks and self-dealing, people will find ways to work the system.

Free, competitive markets reduce corruption because they leave government officials with fewer opportunities to intervene.

The private sector should simply build and operate much more housing in New York.

Private owners can’t afford to pay their plumbers $465,000 because they need to stay in business and can’t raise taxes.

Instead, NYCHA will just keep failing — and asking taxpayers to keep funding six-figure overtime rides on its gravy train.

Throughout his career, Dieperink officiated an impressive total of 284 professional football matches in his home country.

In 2022, Dieperink rose to international prominence by becoming part of the global officiating roster. He was appointed as a video assistant referee (VAR) for prestigious events such as the 2024 European Championship and the Olympic Games. His responsibilities extended to European club tournaments, including a noteworthy role as assistant VAR during the 2024 UEFA Europa League final between Atalanta and Bayer Leverkusen at Dublin Arena, Ireland.

By December 2024, Dieperink had secured a position as a VAR for the FIFA Intercontinental Cup held in Qatar. Although originally chosen for the video assistant referee team for the 2026 World Cup, his name was later retracted from FIFA’s official list of World Cup officials in May.

In April, Dieperink faced legal challenges when he was taken into custody by the Metropolitan Police following allegations of sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. However, the BBC reported that these accusations were later cleared due to insufficient evidence. At the time, Dieperink was in London to oversee the Conference League quarter-final match between Crystal Palace and Fiorentina on 9 April.

According to a statement from the Metropolitan Police: “On Thursday, 9 April, officers were called to address allegations of sexual assault on a teenage boy at a location on Wellesley Road, Croydon. Subsequently, a man in his 30s was apprehended on suspicion of sexual assault.

“Officers completed a thorough investigation and reviewed all available evidence, including gathering CCTV and examining digital devices. Following these enquiries, they concluded that the evidential threshold had not been met. No further action will be taken.”

World Cup 2026

Dieperink had been selected to be a video assistant referee (VAR) official at the FIFA World Cup 2026, but was removed from FIFA’s list of World Cup officials in May following a police investigation in the UK.

After he was dropped from the World Cup, Dieperink said he had been “wrongly accused” in an interview with Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.

“It saddens me greatly that I have been wrongly accused,” he said. “From the beginning, I have fully cooperated in the police investigation and also immediately gave full openness to FIFA, UEFA and the KNVB.”

“I am grateful for the support I have received from the KNVB and the way in which they have dealt with this case. It is a pity that FIFA has decided not to appoint me for the World Cup any more, of course I am disappointed about that.”

Old School Fans React to Netflix’s Bold Little House on the Prairie Reboot

Netflix’s new adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s beloved children’s book series “Little House on the Prairie” debuted last week to a decent 77% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. It also landed at No. 2 on the streamer’s Top 10 most-watched TV shows chart. However, despite a promising start, the reboot didn’t get the most glowing reception from viewers and hardcore fans. Those who grew up loving the original series have laid out what they believe the new take gets wrong. “Little House On The Prairie (Netflix) is REALLY bad but not for any interesting reasons,” as one unhappy X user stressed. “It reads like it was written by the screenwriter of Hallmark’s Leprechaun Love Story and was filmed by the worst D-team on a weird 2000s telenovela.” That’s one way to put it.

They felt the reboot suffers from awkward dialogue and “random shots” that don’t seem to add anything to the story. Furthermore, they argued that the show features too much singing, making it less like a family drama and more like a musical, “but soulless.” Other disappointed viewers had similar takes, with one arguing, “They were dirt poor yet their clothing was amazing and perfectly laundered. I couldn’t stand it,” adding that the CGI wolf scene was the “final straw” that made them completely lose interest in the series. “Soulless. That is the perfect description,” another agreed. “I’m bored out of my mind.” But not everyone thought the adaptation was a total flop.

And yet, there were some who found Netflix’s version of “Little House on the Prairie” surprisingly enjoyable, and who couldn’t wait for Season 2. “Wholesome. Beautifully filmed. And more action packed than the original,” enthused one such fan. “Hoping there’ll be more seasons to come.”

Viewers complained about Netflix’s adaptation being ‘too woke’

During its development, Netflix’s “Little House on the Prairie” sparked initial concerns from avid fans who feared that the new adaptation would be “too woke.” Conservative commentator Megyn Kelly led the backlash by issuing a threat to Netflix on X, warning, “If you wokeify Little House on the Prairie I will make it my singular mission to absolutely ruin your project.” Actor Melissa Gilbert, who was a key part of the original “Little House on the Prairie” cast and was reportedly close to her onscreen father, the late Michael Landon, responded to Kelly directly by urging her to rewatch the previous episodes (See also: Stars from “Little House on the Prairie” you didn’t know have died). “TV doesn’t get too much more ‘woke’ than we did,” she argued on Threads. “We tackled: racism, addiction, nativism, antisemitism, misogyny, rape, spousal abuse and every other ‘woke’ topic you can think of.”

Following its release on July 9, 2026, Netflix’s new take on “Little House on the Prairie” has faced significant backlash due to its inclusive casting and modern stance, diverging from the original series. Rebecca Sonnenshine, the showrunner, addressed these criticisms, often labeled as ‘woke’, in a timely interview with Variety published to coincide with the show’s debut. “In essence, it boils down to a fear people have about seeing their cherished childhood memories represented in a way that unsettles them,” she remarked. Nonetheless, Sonnenshine remained unwavering in her creative vision, expressing confidence that the audience would appreciate the reboot. She observed, “People can have their fears, which is completely natural. But truthfully, there’s nothing to fear since it’s a narrative meant to connect with everyone.”

Teen Wolf Star Shocks Fans with New Look and Scientology Reveal

Dylan Sprayberry, best known for his role in Teen Wolf, has publicly announced his involvement in Scientology.

In a six-minute Instagram video, the 28-year-old actor shared that he embraced the controversial faith after achieving sobriety.

“I am a Scientologist. I’ve been in Scientology for three years now. It’s been an incredible journey for me. It’s been truly fantastic,” he expressed.

Having been sober for nearly five years, Sprayberry explained that he sought out Scientology to combat the anxiety and depression he believes drove him to “self-medicate” with substances.

“I was a chronic drug user for about a decade. I first got sober at 23,” he revealed.

‘About two years in [to sobriety], I was trying to handle that anxiety and that depression with these drugs. Now that I was sober, I could tell that it’s still there. It’s just suppressed. That was tough, but I had to confront it,’ he continued.

Sprayberry then opened up about the ‘purification’ process he went through after joining the Church of Scientology.

‘I was lucky enough to meet some amazing Scientologists and the first thing that you do as a Scientologist — when you start doing your services — is something called the purification rundown,’ he shared.

‘The purification rundown is what it sounds like. It’s basically a detox program that gets drugs and toxins out of your body for good. I did that and it was awesome. It was so much fun, because I’m a very active person, so doing the detox program with the running and the sauna sweat felt so good.’

He then touted science-fiction author and Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard’s book The Way to Happiness as a key component in his spiritual journey.

‘The whole reason I was depressed and anxious and all that stuff was because I was not being that person who creates happiness for myself,’ he said.

‘I was creating depression and anxiety by my behavior, my actions, my point of view on the world. So when I read that book, it really helped open my eyes to the power of that.

‘It’s not only something that you do in your mind, but it’s something that I do with my actions in telling the truth, taking care of your body and not doing drugs and helping your parents and not judging other people’s religions.’

Sprayberry finished off his proselytizing post by tagging Scientology and urging his followers to read Hubbard’s book by clicking the link in his Instagram bio.

The actor’s post drew a mixed reaction, with some fans criticizing him for turning to religion, while others congratulated him for getting sober and seemingly finding some peace and happiness in his life.

‘I think a therapist would’ve been the better option,’ one person commented.

‘To be honest I’m proud of you that you are clean now. But I’m sad too because you joined Scientology,’ wrote another.

‘This is amazing, love that you’re sharing your story and doing so well. The Way to Happiness changed my life too, helped me find an amazing partner and made it easier to be my own source of joy,’ a third gushed.

‘This is soooo beautiful. Thank you for sharing your story! I’m so happy you’re doing so well and found happiness and something that works for you. Religious tolerance and respect is so important, we should all be celebrating how happy you are and how well you’re doing in life,’ wrote another.

While the popularity of Scientology among Hollywood stars has waned in recent years, there’s still a number of prominent celebrities that follow the religion.

In addition to longtime Scientologists like Tom Cruise and John Travolta, Mad Men star Elisabeth Moss is also a prominent member.

Sprayberry got his big break as a child, playing the role of a young Clark Kent in Zack Synder’s 2013 Superman film Man of Steel.

Dave Matthews Halts Concert to Criticize ICE Over Houston Tragedy

During a recent concert, Dave Matthews, the renowned frontman of the Dave Matthews Band, did not hold back his feelings as he strongly criticized agents of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), labeling them as “a–holes.”

“I find it baffling that we allow people to justify reasons why we should continue to harm one another,” Matthews passionately expressed. “There seems to be a constant narrative encouraging us to inflict violence, a message that even our children absorb and perpetuate as they grow. It makes me wonder about the state of humanity, questioning why we have lost our moral compass. Perhaps, we’ve always been this way, only now we are more skilled at creating tools for destruction.” His remarks, emotional and raw, were captured and spread widely through a viral video clip from the show.

Matthews continued by addressing a tragic recent incident, making sure to speak the victim’s name he had carefully noted. “I feel it’s important to talk about this individual—a father and grandfather who was senselessly shot by ICE in Houston, Texas. They claim he wasn’t even the individual they were seeking. Inexcusable. If you’re uncertain, don’t pull the trigger, you a–holes.”

Matthews offered an apology to the family of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, whose life was abruptly ended. “I apologize if my words offend his family, friends, or community. However, the injustice fills me with anger, and I wanted to dedicate this to the memory of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, who was killed recently in Houston by ICE.” The heartfelt tribute underscored Matthews’ evident frustration and his desire for accountability.

Illegal immigrant Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a Mexican citizen, was shot and killed in Houston after he allegedly tried to ram US ICE officers during an operation, the agency said Tuesday. ICE officers were attempting to conduct a traffic stop at around 6:50 a.m., an ICE spokesperson told Fox News Digital.

Araujo tried evading the ICE officers when he “weaponized his vehicle in an attempt to run over an ICE law enforcement officer, resulting in our officer firing his weapon in self-defense.”

Matthews has condemned ICE agents before. After the killing of activist Renee Good in Minneapolis amid an altercation with ICE agents in February, he spoke out in a video on his Instagram.

“I don’t want my taxes to pay for ICE, to masked thugs to roam our streets and terrorize our communities and rip families apart. We should be taking care of each other. We should be minding each other. We should be housing the homeless. We shouldn’t be, you know, throwing people to the ground,” he said.

“Which brings me to Renee Nicole Good,” he continued. “Murdered in front of her fellow citizens in Minneapolis, murdered in the streets, and no matter what narrative this administration is trying to sell us, we can see the videos.”

Fox News Digital contacted ICE for comment but did not receive an immediate response.

CHICAGO (WLS) — The Chicago Police Department has launched an investigation following the grim discovery of a woman’s body inside a trash can on Saturday evening in Englewood.

Officers responded to a scene in an alley situated near the intersection of Union Avenue and 54th Street, where they found the woman’s remains.

While the authorities are yet to confirm the identity officially, the family of Zenobia Weatherspoon suspects it might be her, recognizing the clothing she was last seen wearing.

Zenobia’s mother revealed to ABC7 that her daughter disappeared nearly three weeks ago, leaving loved ones to search desperately but without success.

The tragic turn came on Saturday night when authorities retrieved a severely decomposed body from a trash can in an alley, located just a few blocks away from where Zenobia lived.

Cellphone video of the retrieval began to circulate on social media, and that is how her family says they found out she was dead.

“It’s heartbreaking. It’s really heartbreaking,” said Javon Weatherspoon, Zenobia’s brother.

Friends and family gathered at 54th and Peoria on Monday. They shared memories of the woman they knew as Zee.

“She the type of the person who would give you the shirt off her back, and that’s just the facts about Zee. Great person. We all loved her. We family,” said Jatara Leslie, Zenobia’s cousin.

Grief was mixed with anger on Monday night as Zenobia’s loved ones called for justice. A balloon release punctuated the vigil.

“She didn’t live a life for this to happen to her. It makes you scared of the neighborhood,” said Fatima McKay, Zenobia’s cousin. “We ask that no evidence goes unnoticed and that they treat this as if it was one of their daughters, their mothers, sisters, cousins. She was important to us… This family is going to make noise, and this is something that you will not get away with.”

The case has also sparked concern among residents and community activists.

“It’s just diabolical to me,” said Jasmine Smith of the Chicago Alliance Against Racism and Political Repression.

Troy Gaston of Black Lives Matter Chicago said news of the death prompted him to take action.

“To hear about this death right here just made me stop and come out here and try and find a way where we can see justice for her and her family,” Gaston said.

Smith called for accountability in the case.

“Who done this to this Black woman? Who done this?” Smith said. “She is somebody’s child. She’s somebody’s aunt. She’s somebody’s sister. Her life matters, and people need to understand that.”

Illinois state Sen. Lakesia Collins, who said she knows Weatherspoon, described the case as personal.

“It is very personal for me,” Collins said.

Collins said she is troubled by the death and by other unresolved cases involving missing or murdered women of color.

“This is one that I don’t understand at all, but there’s many Zenobias around this city around this state and all across this country, and I don’t want this case or any other case to unresolved,” Collins said.

As the investigation continues, Collins urged anyone with information or images related to the case to contact police.

Police are calling this a death investigation as they await the autopsy results not just to positively identify the remains, but also to determine cause of death.

Chicago police have not released additional details about the investigation.
