West Virginia Police Department’s Evidence Room Scandal Sparks Turmoil Without Terminations

0

City officials in a West Virginia town are disputing claims from their own police department that staff members were all dismissed. This clarification follows a sweeping internal review initiated due to accusations of a break-in at the department’s evidence room.

The Barrackville Police Department stirred controversy with a Facebook post on July 7. In the message, they stated that city authorities had terminated the entire department.

“With immediate effect, the Barrackville Police Department has been relieved of duty by the Mayor and City Council,” read the department’s post. “We are deeply thankful for the support, trust, and encouragement received from the Barrackville community during our tenure. Serving and protecting this town has been an honor and a privilege.”

The statement came on the heels of the abrupt resignation of then-Police Chief Zachary Freeburn, who also stepped down “effective immediately.”

However, in a statement to News Media, Barrackville’s general counsel, John Funkhouser, said the police department’s claim of a mass firing is “entirely inaccurate.” He said two officers were placed on temporary leave pending an internal investigation into an alleged break-in at the department’s evidence room.

Funkhouser said then-Chief Freeburn told council member Alex Neville on July 1 that the department’s evidence locker was cleaned out under an order from the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, leaving firearms confiscated years ago along with $30 in abandoned cash. The following day, Freeburn resigned.

Officer David Hunt then reached out to Barrackville Mayor Thomas Straight regarding an “action plan” for the department. Due to an alleged lack of “proper records and other documentation,” Straight placed Hunt and officer Ethan Darden on temporary inactive status to give the town’s council “time to review all pertinent information regarding the operation of the Barrackville Police Department.”

Straight raised concerns on July 6 that unauthorized individuals could remotely access surveillance cameras at the police department, which included those housed in the evidence room. When several council members entered the evidence room, they found “a list of safe combinations on a desk and used one to open the safe, which turned up nothing.”

One police cruiser was also found unlocked by the council members, along with another one that had an “unsecured rifle” inside. The officers were placed on leave the following day.

Hunt responded by saying he was going to investigate the alleged break-in at the police department and wanted to claim “whistleblower” status, inviting the West Virginia State Police to investigate. After town officials met with the West Virginia State police, the Barrackville Police Department’s clerk resigned.

“The assertion that the entire police staff has been fired in entirely inaccurate. The Mayor and Council engaged in necessary acts of oversight to ensure the accountability of the Barrackville Police Department and confirm that the Department was complying with all rules and regulations under which the department should have been operating. The Town of Barrackville is committed to transparency, accountability and the safety of its residents,” Funkhouser said in a statement.

Hunt’s account to WBOY differs from the town’s version of events, telling the outlet that he discovered the evidence room had been entered by someone else when he got to work on July 7.

After accusing town officials of entering the evidence room, he and another officer, who consist of the entire town’s police force, were fired.

In a Facebook post, the Barrackville Town Council announced that the July 7 meeting was canceled due to “a lack of sufficient information regarding items listed under unfinished business.”

In the meantime, Marion County Sheriff Roger Cunningham told WBOY that their agency will handle calls within Barrackville.

Potential Successors to Graham in the Senate: A Closer Look

(The Hill) – In the wake of the sudden passing of Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Saturday evening, a political race has swiftly commenced to find his replacement.

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster (R) has taken immediate steps to address the vacancy, with plans to announce an interim appointment for the veteran senator this coming Monday at 4 p.m. EDT, as stated by his office.

The upcoming appointee will carry out senatorial duties for a brief period—slightly over five months—until a new successor is formally elected by South Carolina’s voters to officially assume the role on January 3, 2027.

A special primary election, slated for August 11, will enable South Carolinians to cast their votes to determine the GOP nominee. Should no candidate secure a decisive win, an additional runoff will occur on August 25.

The Republican candidate who emerges victoriously from this political contest will then face the Democratic challenger, Annie Andrews, in the general election scheduled for November.

Here’s who’s on the short list of potential candidates to replace Graham:

Darline Graham Nordone, Graham’s sister

The sister of the late senator, Graham Nordone has already been recommended to replace him temporarily by the most prominent Republican, President Trump.

“I recommended, to Governor Henry McMaster, Lindsey Graham’s wonderful sister, Darline, to serve as interim Senator from the Great State of South Carolina. This would be a fabulous tribute to Lindsey, who loved her dearly!” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.

Graham Nordone’s older brother ultimately raised her after she was orphaned by the loss of both of their parents within 15 months.

By 1976, Graham, who was in his twenties, stepped up to raise his then-12-year-old sister while juggling classes at the University of South Carolina.

Now she could step in into Graham’s shoes in the 119th Congress.

Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.)

Norman is exploring a run to replace Graham as the GOP nominee for Senate, a source familiar with the campaign confirmed to The Hill.

Norman has already asked for the president’s endorsement, according to Bloomberg Government.

Trump told the South Carolina lawmaker “give me a week” before he makes a decision on backing Norman or another Republican to replace Graham, who was a well-respected defense hawk and close ally of the president.

Earlier this year, Norman lost the Republican nomination to become South Carolina’s next governor.

Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette (R-S.C.)

Evette is another potential candidate that could file paperwork to replace Graham long term. She received Trump’s original endorsement to become the Palmetto State’s next governor, but ultimately loss the nomination in a runoff against Attorney General Alan Wilson (R).

Sources told The Associated Press that she’s fielded calls about serving as Graham’s replacement after serving under McMaster for nearly eight years.

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.)

Mace is expected to conduct polling on her chances of serving as Graham’s replacement as soon as next week.

She and others vying for the party nomination have until July 28 to file paperwork after the filing period opens on July 21. Mace lost the Republican nomination for the South Carolina governorship earlier this year.

Due to her gubernatorial campaign, she forfeited a chance at retaining her seat in the House.

In recent months, Mace has towed the line with Trump, siding with Democrats on efforts to release the files from Jeffrey Epstein’s estate and heavily opposing putting boots on the ground in Iran.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent

Some are eying Bessent to take up Graham’s seat. The Cabinet secretary, who previously resided in South Carolina before joining the second Trump administration, has not mentioned any interest.

However, he did reflect on Graham’s legacy in a Sunday statement.

“It was an honor to call him my friend. And work with him to advance President Trump’s agenda at home and on the international stage,” Bessent wrote in the post on X.

“Lindsey was a one-of-a-kind politician who could speak at length on both global defense policy and South Carolina kitchen table issues. He will be missed across our state, country and the entire globe,” he added.

Rep. William Timmons (R-S.C.)

Timmons has said he was open to replacing Graham if called upon.

“If and when the time comes to discuss the future, I have always been willing to serve South Carolina wherever I can make the greatest difference,” Timmons told CNBC in a statement.

Rep. Russell Fry (R-S.C.)

Fry has been a staunch ally of Trump’s in the lower chamber and could be another name considered for the role.

He endorsed Graham’s sister to serve as the late senator’s temporary replacement.

“I couldn’t agree with President Trump more— having Senator Graham’s sister, Darline, finish his term would be the most utmost tribute to Lindsey’s life of service,” Fry wrote in a post on X.

Former Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.)

Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) spoke in favor of Gowdy replacing Graham at least temporarily.

“Trey Gowdy would be a fantastic placeholder, but certainly there are other names in the mix,” Scott told CNN on Monday. “There’s no doubt in my mind that Trey would serve well.”

Scott has also floated former Sen. Jim DeMint (D-S.C.) as a potential GOP candidate.

Gas Station Showdown: Fatal Love Triangle Ends in Tragedy

A Missouri man, Ramel Morgan, has been sentenced to prison after being spotted on surveillance footage with a firearm at a gas station just before a deadly shooting occurred.

Ramel Morgan, aged 20, entered a guilty plea for second-degree murder on July 9 in relation to the shooting death of an unnamed victim. He confessed to discharging the fatal shots on December 7, 2025, at a Kansas City gas station, an event captured by the station’s surveillance cameras. Morgan surrendered to the authorities a few weeks following the incident, according to a criminal complaint obtained by Law&Crime.

Though the victim’s identity has not been released, law enforcement indicated a potential love triangle might have linked Morgan, the victim, and a woman both were reportedly involved with.

Police records show that officers were dispatched to the scene in response to shooting reports around 11:45 p.m. on December 7, 2025. Upon arrival, neither the victim nor the suspect was present. It was later discovered that the victim managed to drive himself to a hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

A witness told police that they saw the suspect, later identified as Morgan, fire several shots into the victim’s silver Mustang before fleeing the scene on foot. Police found a 9mm Winchester shell casing at the scene. At the hospital, police found the victim’s silver Mustang and a Glock 22 .40-caliber handgun inside.

Police then reviewed the surveillance footage from the gas station, which showed Morgan’s gray Hyundai Sonata pulling up to the gas pumps. Three unnamed individuals got out of the car and went inside the store; Morgan then exited the driver’s side and went inside, where he was seen carrying “an object resembling a handgun.” Morgan was seen coming in and out of the store until he saw the victim’s Mustang pull into a parking space.

According to the complaint, Morgan walked over to the passenger’s side of the victim’s car and spoke with the driver, who was identified as the victim. After a brief conversation, Morgan opened fire and shot into the Mustang multiple times before running away.

The three unnamed individuals ran out of the store and got into a black Jeep, which then drove away from the gas station. Police found Morgan’s Sonata in the parking lot.

Police tracked down the driver of the Jeep and other witnesses who were at the gas station during the shooting. One of them had recorded the incident on their phone, which captured a male voice saying, “Come here before I kill this [expletive],” followed by a female voice saying, “You do what you have to do.”

Police said a witness who was at the scene told officers that Morgan asked the victim if he was there to see an unnamed woman. The same woman was identified by a witness as being “involved romantically” with both Morgan and the victim, “which [the witness] believed led to the shooting.”

Several witnesses identified Morgan in a photo lineup. One witness told police that Morgan confessed to shooting the victim after seeing him with a gun.

Morgan was sentenced to 14 years in prison.

Bryce Harper Slams FanDuel Over Controversial Cameo Video Fiasco

0

Bryce Harper recently addressed his role in a contentious FanDuel video, accusing the online sportsbook of misleading him to exploit a gambler battling addiction.

Per the Philadelphia Inquirer, Harper had filmed a video message for Terry Thompson, a VIP client who gambled away $18.5 million with FanDuel. Thompson faced financial ruin, eventually losing his home after securing second and third mortgages to cover his mounting losses.

In a desperate attempt to recoup financial stability, Thompson also parted with a company stake he had held for twenty years.

Thompson has now filed lawsuits against both FanDuel and DraftKings.

The personalized video message Harper made for Thompson stirred significant controversy. However, the Phillies star released a statement on Instagram Monday, asserting that he was unaware of the video’s full purpose when he participated.

Bryce Harper said he did not know the video he recorded for Thompson was a gambling promotion Philadelphia Inquirer

“I joined Cameo to engage with fans through paid personalized videos. What happened here went beyond anything I knew about or approved,” he began.

“In November 2024, someone identifying themselves only as ‘Bryttanni’ submitted an order through Cameo for a personal ‘holiday video for Terry.’ Cameo had a separate category for business video requests, and at the time, I did not know this video would be used for commercial purposes.

“The request included a short script. I read it in good faith. FanDuel then put its own logo on the video and used it as a gambling promotion. I did not know FanDuel would do this, I did not consent to it, and FanDuel had no right to do it.”

Harper also posted a screenshot of the Cameo request from Thompson’s VIP host, Brytttani, which included the script that he ultimately read in the video.

“Hey Terry, what’s up, brother, your host Bryttanni from FanDuel wanted to make sure your Thanksgiving was extra special,” Harper said in the video.

“I just wanted to hop on here and wish your family a wonderful Thanksgiving. Tell [redacted name to protect the identity of minor] I said ‘Hello.’ I appreciate all of the support through the years.”

Harper added that he also was unaware of Thompson’s gambling addiction, and has “no affiliation with FanDuel whatsoever.”

Thompson told the Inquirer that he was addicted to micro-betting, and FanDuel gave him lavish perks such as Super Bowl tickets.

However, he ultimately lost nearly $2 million, and police were reportedly called to check on him at his home after he lost his final $10,000.

New Evidence Emerges in Minnesota Protest Shooting Deaths Investigation

0

On Monday, Minnesota prosecutors revealed significant advancements in their investigation into the tragic shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, which occurred amidst protests against federal immigration enforcement measures in the state earlier this year.

“Thanks to the cooperation with our federal partners, we have successfully acquired the hard drives containing previously unreleased evidence related to the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, as well as the shooting incident involving Julio Sosa-Celis,” announced Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty. “Additionally, we have now secured some physical evidence that had been out of our reach, including Renee Good’s vehicle.”

Prior to this development, federal authorities had withheld various pieces of evidence, including witness statements, police body camera footage, and other critical information related to the cases.

Moriarty confirmed that local and state investigators now have access to the damaged car that belonged to Good, further aiding their investigation.

Renee Good, a 37-year-old mother of three, was fatally shot in her vehicle as she departed an anti-immigration enforcement demonstration in Minneapolis on January 7. This tragic event unfolded as U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents intensified their activities in the area.

Her death and that of Pretti, a 37-year-old intensive care nurse shot and killed by federal officers just weeks later during a Jan. 24 protest, sparked outrage across the country and calls to rein in immigration enforcement.

“The wonderful thing now is we have all the evidence,” Moriarty said.

Investigators are going through all the evidence, including hard drives with statements, hours of video recorded by body-worn cameras and the physical car Good was driving, Moriarty said.

“We need transparency. We need cooperation. Our community needs it,” she said. “Our democracy requires it.”

At the end of June, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison and Moriarty asked a federal judge to push out the deadlines in their lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Justice because they said they were in the midst of recently reinitiated “ongoing discussions” with the FBI about information sharing.

Those ongoing discussions with the FBI about information sharing are likely to affect Minnesota’s request for summary judgment in the case, Ellison and Moriarty wrote in their motion to the court.

The attorneys representing the federal government signed onto the motion.

Ellison said he remains “deeply troubled that the federal government spent more than half a year attempting to conceal this evidence from state investigators.”

“It should never have taken this long for Minnesota law enforcement to gain access to the federal government’s evidence,” he said in a statement. “I hope that this is the beginning of a major course correction on the part of the federal government.”

There have been at least eight deaths since the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement campaign began last year, but nobody has been charged in connection with them.

A Minneapolis resident, Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis, was also shot and injured in his home while ICE agents were in pursuit of another man.

In May, Christian Castro, an ICE agent, was arrested and charged with assault as well as falsely reporting a crime in connection with that Jan. 14 nonfatal shooting.

Prosecutors say Castro, 52, fired through a home’s front door and shot Sosa-Celis in the thigh.

In April, Gregory Donnell Morgan Jr., another ICE agent, was charged with pointing his gun at a motorist and passenger on a Minneapolis highway.

Prosecutors said at the time it was the first criminal case against a federal officer involved in the Minnesota immigration crackdown.

On Monday, ICE was involved in the fatal shooting in Maine, according to state House Speaker Ryan Fecteau, a Democrat.

Details of what transpired in Biddeford, a coastal city of about 23,000 people roughly 15 miles (24 kilometers) southwest of Portland, remain unclear.

Last week, an ICE agent in Houston fatally shot a Mexican national who had lived in the U.S. for decades as the homebuilder drove his construction crew to a job site.

The federal Department of Homeland Security, which oversees ICE, has acknowledged officers were looking for someone else when they attempted to stop Lorenzo Salgado Araujo’s vehicle. The agency maintains Salgado Araujo rammed an ICE vehicle, prompting an officer to open fire in self-defense.

Colombian Migrant, 26, Fatally Shot by ICE: New Video Surfaces

0

A Colombian migrant, who was just 26 years old, lost his life in an altercation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Maine. The tragic incident unfolded right before the eyes of his young daughter, still in her pajamas.

Despite possessing permission to work legally in the U.S. and holding a social security number, the man faced an order mandating his departure from the country, although his identity remains undisclosed.

A Maine senator, Angus King, disclosed that the deceased was wanted by law enforcement and the focal point of an ICE operation on Monday morning, which inevitably resulted in his death.

The reasons behind the deportation decision remain unclear and unverified. Initial details about the man began surfacing as unsettling video footage emerged, depicting his white Kia sedan driving in circles while being pursued by officers.

According to a witness, the incident reached its fatal conclusion when the man, operating his vehicle in Biddeford, was shot shortly after 7 a.m. Eastern Time on Monday. The confrontation escalated after he reportedly ignored commands from ICE agents and accelerated towards them.

Another eyewitness, Cecilia Humiston, 22, told the Portland Press-Herald that the shooting tragically unfolded in front of the migrant’s family, including his toddler daughter who was wearing Bluey pajamas.

Humiston said an older woman was at the scene yelling at the ICE officers, ‘You took her dad, you took her dad’, and claimed a ‘rude’ officer also yelled at the young girl as she tried to smell flowers nearby.

It comes as new footage from the scene showed the victim’s white Kia driving slowly in circles at an intersection, as an ICE agent runs alongside the vehicle.

It is unclear if the footage was taken before or after the driver was shot, with lawmakers calling for urgent answers.

Locals say ICE had been operating in the town for about a week although it is unclear if Monday’s fatal incident was a random encounter that spiraled out of control or if the Kia driver had set out to confront officers.

Separate Ring camera footage obtained from inside a nearby home by The Maine Wire captured the sound of the deadly confrontation, as a barrage of around five shots were fired rapidly.

Photos taken in the aftermath showed a bullet hole on the windshield of the white Kia sedan being driven by the victim when he was killed.

A witness told the Portland Press-Herald that the man emerged from the car bleeding profusely from his head moments after the shooting.

Photos taken from the scene show the victim lying on a nearby road, as ICE agents and police consoled each other.

Witness Lucas Scott, 18, told the Press Herald that he was driving through the intersection moments before the shooting, and saw a group of unmarked vehicles descend on another car.

He said he saw agents in ICE uniforms confronting the driver of the vehicle, seconds before an agent pulled his weapon and ordered the man to exit his car.

‘The car was put into drive and was trying to hit the ICE officer,’ Scott said. He said he then heard the ICE agent fire several shots quickly.

Details of the fatal shooting are still developing, and lawmakers have called for answers as to what the ICE agents were doing in the small Maine town or why the driver's vehicle was targeted

Mary Hayes, a resident who lives near the scene, told the Press Herald that she did not see the agent open fire, but arrived in time to see the victim lying in the street.

‘There’s a dead body down there,’ she said.

‘I mean, we live in Maine. We don’t expect this to happen here. What have we come to?’ she added.

Maine Congresswoman Chellie Pingree said she was ‘deeply disturbed and angry’ by the news.

‘I, of course, need to know all of the answers here,’ the Democrat said.

Pingree said she wanted to know if the ICE agents were pursuing a migrant with a criminal record or if the shooting was a routine traffic stop, but added, ‘More than anything else, I want to know why you’re in Maine?’

‘Every report we hear is about somebody being picked up who legally was here, and is this going to be another one of those stories?’

Maine’s House Speaker Ryan Fecteau said he was waiting to hear details over what led to the deadly shooting, saying in a short statement: ‘A person was killed. ICE was involved.

‘State Police and the Department of Public Safety are now on scene to gather details and would expect the FBI to investigate as well. These are the details that I have at this time. I will provide further updates, as they are relayed to me.’

It comes just days after an ICE agent fatally shot a Mexican immigrant during a traffic stop in Houston, which sparked mass protests.

Scrutiny on ICE activities was also compounded by the fatal shootings of anti-ICE protesters Alex Pretti and Renee Good in Minnesota earlier this year.

The shooting on Monday has quickly led to calls for protest, with the social justice group Biddeford Saco for Racial Justice saying on Facebook that it would be holding a demonstration within a matter of hours.

‘Folks are really upset,’ the group said. ‘I imagine there will be more.’

The Astonishing Discovery of My Father’s True Identity After 53 Years

0

The advent of DNA testing technology has transformed it from a niche service into a widely accessible tool. With its affordability and sophistication increasing, over 26 million people globally have voluntarily entrusted their genetic information to private companies. However, the question arises: in opting for these insights, are we relinquishing too much of our personal data? As DNA testing becomes part of many households, Insight explores whether any family secret can truly remain concealed.

Throughout my childhood, I believed that a man named Dennis was my biological father. Despite his flaws, Dennis’s love for my younger sister and me never wavered.

My mother, however, had an inconsistent presence in our lives, her relationship with my father marked by frequent breakups and reconciliations.

By the age of 13, when my mother left for the final time, I can’t say it was entirely unwelcome. By then, it felt more like a relief.

My father, despite his own struggles, strived to be the best parent he could. Nonetheless, managing the challenging task of raising two teenage girls single-handedly was always an uphill battle for him.

I guess I always knew deep down Dad wasn’t my ‘real’ father, but I chose to ignore and push those thoughts aside.

I always felt different to my younger sister growing up. We looked and behaved so differently, and people commented on it all the time.

When I was 14, a cousin asked me if I knew who my real father was; I asked him how he knew.

He just laughed and told me everybody knew.

photo of a young blonde girl in a pink dress with a stuffed rabbit toy

Soon after this, I got in touch with my mother again.

I asked her to tell me who my father was.

She said his name was David and that they had lost contact when she was pregnant with me and he went over to fight in the Vietnam War; and that she met Dad and started a relationship with him soon after.

A few years later when I was 18 and expecting my first child, I decided to contact the Australian Army records division about David and explained my situation.

The records division sent a letter to David who was still alive. He was very quick to reply and said he had been searching for me for a long time.

I never told Dad I was looking for my biological father as I didn’t want to hurt him.

David and I spoke on the phone a few times but contact slowly petered out, and we wouldn’t speak again for many years later.

I also tried having a relationship with my mother as the years went on but it was difficult due to past trauma.

I stopped all contact with her in 1995 when I was 23 — soon after my third child was born — despite desperately wanting my children to have a grandmother.

Taking the test

Around the year 2000, I received a phone call from a woman from an adoption association.

I had changed my surname when I got married at 21 and had also moved cities; the woman told me David had been trying to get back in contact with me.

But she would not give either of us contact details until we both took a DNA test.

I did the test and waited for the results — thinking it would just be a formality.

a young blonde girl in a white dress smiles looking away from the camera

When they came back six weeks later, they were negative for a DNA relation with David.

I was shocked, and to say that I was angry was an understatement.

I found my mother’s phone number and rang to tell her about the results. The call was neither long nor helpful. That call was the last contact we’ve had.

David and I spoke once more on the phone after finding this out, and he was sad to know I wasn’t his daughter. We haven’t spoken again.

I had basically given up on finding family for the next decade and a half; but in 2016 I decided to do an ancestry DNA test — mostly to find out about my genetic heritage.

I had results within weeks, and although I didn’t have any close family matches, it was interesting to find out where in the world my ancestors might be from.

Finding a match

In 2018, I received an email from a man called Brett. He had done his DNA test and was a close family match.

I had done some detective work in the years prior and found I had some half-siblings.

Brett was one of these children — born to my mother three years before me.

We’ve met a couple of times in person and speak over the phone sometimes; we’re very similar in so many ways and have a great bond to this day.

Then just over a year ago, I had a new DNA match … a father.

This came as quite a shock as I’d honestly given up on ever knowing who he was.

But now, I was in my 50s and finally had a name for my biological father.

I mulled over the information for a few weeks before my husband emailed the contact person listed on the test; she is my younger half-sister.

It turns out that she had bought the test for her dad for Christmas to learn more about his heritage.

This man had only had a very brief encounter with my mother and never saw her again.

He nor his family knew I existed — so obviously, it was all a huge shock for them too.

‘You don’t have to be blood to be family’

I have had some contact with his daughter (my biological half-sister), but he and I have not been in touch yet.

I somewhat feel that I would be intruding on his life with his wife and children, and I don’t want them to feel that they are obligated to me in any way.

Today, I’ve been happily married for over 33 years. I have three children and love spending time with my beautiful grandchildren.

Dennis always remained Dad to me, but sadly he died eight years ago. I don’t know if my mother is still alive, nor do I care to know.

But she taught me that you don’t have to be blood to be family.

Growing up, not really knowing your family makes you very guarded and very closed off to other people. And you don’t really sort of explain your story to anybody because it is, it’s so difficult to talk about.

But I have wonderful friends who have stuck by me through all life’s ups and downs — and for that, I’m very grateful.

Tragic Plane Crash Claims Life of Colorado Firefighting Pilot in Reservoir

The Gold Mountain Fire has burned about 35,600 acres and was 5% contained as of Sunday, according to the Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program. Fire officials expect the blaze to remain active, with shifting winds likely to push smoke into different communities over the next several days.

Exciting Revamp Set to Turn Bustling California Harbor into a Premier Entertainment Destination

The Port of San Diego has begun the public commentary phase for an extensive redevelopment initiative aimed at transforming East Harbor Island. The vision is to convert this bustling California harbor into a lively entertainment destination.

This phase follows the announcement of a Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR). Residents and stakeholders have the opportunity to provide their feedback on the project until August 24.

Upon receiving approval, the extensive project would overhaul the area opposite the airport and near the Harbor Police Headquarters. Currently serving as a location for surface parking, rental car operations, and temporary construction for the airport, this site is poised to become a premier coastal hotspot.

Part of the proposal includes a 10.1-acre public waterfront park that will feature a promenade, plazas, playgrounds, restrooms, and installations of public art, according to a report from NBC.

Next to this park, planners are proposing a sprawling 16.5-acre entertainment district to entice visitors and locals alike.

Topgolf is slated to anchor 9.8 acres in that section with its popular arcade and driving-range concept, while the remaining acreage will be reserved for future “eatertainment” venues selected through a competitive public bidding process.

To accommodate the influx of visitors, the proposal also calls for rearranging local infrastructure, including the realignment of Liberator Way, the addition of new public parking, sidewalks, and planting buffers, and the reconfiguration of nearby intersections.

Port officials emphasized that no final approvals have been made yet. Comments collected during this public window will be used to shape the Final EIR.

Both the environmental report and a Port Master Plan Amendment are expected to come before the Board of Port Commissioners for a vote in late 2026, alongside a proposed lease agreement option for the Topgolf facility.

The draft EIR is available for public review online.

Jude Bellingham Injury Concerns Rise in Argentina as New Footage Shows England Star in Pain

There’s a buzz circulating in the Argentinian media regarding Jude Bellingham’s fitness as there’s speculation about a potential injury ahead of the much-anticipated World Cup semi-final clash against Lionel Messi and his teammates on Wednesday night.

Fresh footage, released earlier today, shows the England sensation and the hero of the match against Norway appearing to be in discomfort. Bellingham was seen clutching his shoulder and grimacing while making his way through the mixed zone at the Hard Rock Stadium post-game.

Further igniting these concerns was the sighting of Bellingham addressing his left shoulder while in conversation with manager Thomas Tuchel. This has led journalists from the Buenos Aires-based publication, TyC Sports, to speculate that the talented midfielder might indeed be nursing an injury.

It’s worth noting that Bellingham is no stranger to shoulder issues. Back in March 2025, while representing Real Madrid in a match against Rayo Vallecano, he dislocated his shoulder. This incident eventually required surgical intervention last summer to rectify the problem.

Today, images circulated by Bellingham from the Three Lions’ base in Kansas City revealed a prominent scar on his left shoulder, a reminder of past injuries. This scar became the focus of attention amidst ongoing speculation about his current condition.

The Galactico is expected to start on Wednesday night at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium as England look to book their place in a World Cup final for the first time in 60 years.

Bellingham has enjoyed a dream tournament across the pond thus far, scoring six goals in as many games on England’s run to the semi-finals.

His latest two – no doubt the most important – came just before half-time and then during extra time against Erling Haaland’s Norway.

The first, which put England level after the Vikings broke the deadlock, saw the Birmingham-born star latch on to an Anthony Gordon pass, drive into the box and rifle an effort past Orjan Nyland into the back of the net.

Later, Bellingham booked England’s place in Atlanta when he followed in a Morgan Rogers effort from distance and capitalised on a Nyland spill.

The victory sparked jubilant scenes after the final-whistle as England’s players rejoiced, singing Wonderwall with the thousands of fans packed into the stands in Miami.

Tuchel, however, branded his players ‘lucky’ in an eye-opening interview with ITV minutes after the final whistle, prompting a perplexed reaction from Bellingham when it was his turn to speak to the media.

The midfielder suggested the German, who retired as a footballer at just 25 due to injury and ended up working as a bartender before his coaching career, may ‘not know what it’s like’ to compete in top-level matches.

‘What do you think about the statement from your boss?’ Bellingham was asked, initially replying: ‘No comment.’

But when pressed, he then added: ‘Maybe he doesn’t know what it’s like to play in those kind of conditions against Erling Haaland, (Martin) Odegaard, (Antonio) Nusa, (Alexander) Sorloth. That’s not an easy team to play against.

‘I think we’ve tried to create a positive environment and we should continue that going into the final four. I couldn’t speak highly enough of the lads. You’re not going to win every game popping the ball and making a thousand passes, sometimes you have to win dirty and we did that again tonight.’

England were playing in intense heat in Florida, with ‘real feel’ temperatures pitchside over 40C.

In the separate pitchside interview Bellingham had been dismissive of Tuchel’s comments, saying: ‘Yeah, well, whatever.

‘It’s tough out there, it’s difficult. All the players are putting in a very tough shift. So all my thoughts and appreciation goes to the players who were out there who put in a great shift.’

Yet Tuchel laughed off claims of a rift last night, saying: ‘There is no disconnect from me to my team, no, not one per cent. I’m full with my heart and I’m fully in love all of my players and my team and the way they perform.’

England will head into the Argentina clash with few injury concerns other than Jordan Henderson, who made the bench in Miami despite suffering a broken arm just days earlier. Declan Rice, meanwhile, was subbed at half-time against Norway after suffering with illness in the build up to the game.
