Several Individuals Hospitalized Following Four-Vehicle Collision in Sangamon County

In Sangamon County, Illinois, a crash involving four vehicles on Interstate 72 sent several individuals to the hospital this past Sunday. The incident occurred on the eastbound lanes near Interstate 55 in Springfield, prompting a swift response from the Illinois State Police shortly after 11 a.m.

Details on the crash are still emerging. State Police officers have confirmed that “multiple” people sustained injuries and were hospitalized. However, specifics regarding the number of individuals affected and the severity of their injuries remain unknown. Additionally, authorities have not yet disclosed the types of vehicles involved in the collision.

According to State Police, “multiple” people were taken to the hospital with injuries, but at this time it is unclear how many people were transported and how severe their injuries are. At this time, it also remains unclear what kind of vehicles were involved in the crash.

All lanes of I-72 were closed until around 12:22 p.m., but all lanes have since reopened, State Police said. Officials added that the crash remains under investigation, and no further information is available at this time.

Trump Assures Strait of Hormuz Safety Amid Tense Exchange with Reporter

President Donald Trump has asserted that the Strait of Hormuz remains ‘open’ in response to questions posed by a female NBC News reporter.

During a phone-in on Sunday’s Meet the Press, anchor Kristen Welker pressed Trump for clarity on the critical maritime route. This passage has been pivotal in the persistent conflict between the United States and Iran.

Welker addressed Trump, saying, ‘You’ve initiated a new wave of strikes overnight. Iran has claimed that the Strait of Hormuz is closed, yet this morning CENTCOM stated it remains open. Could you clarify the status, Mr. President, and outline your intended response?’

Interrupting Welker, the president emphatically responded, ‘It’s open, and I’m not discussing it further because I wish to honor Lindsey Graham’s memory. As I mentioned earlier, I won’t talk about it.’

Senator Graham, representing South Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday night at the age of 71.

A 911 call for a ‘cardiac arrest’ was placed from the Republicans’ residence around 8.30pm, but no official cause of death has been confirmed, according to multiple reports.

The president ordered that American flags be lowered at half-staff at the White House on Sunday morning to honor the late senator and Trump ally.

Trump also joined CNN’s Jake Tapper on Sunday morning, where he shared a similar reaction when asked about the war.

‘Iran has declared the Strait of Hormuz closed,’ Tapper said. ‘Is that true, Mr. President?’

‘It’s open as far as I’m concerned. Don’t talk about it, talk about the reason you asked me to speak,’ Trump quipped at the journalist.

Tapper then asked him: ‘Ok, we appreciate your time, sir. Before I let you go, is there any final word that you want the American people to know about Lindsey Graham?’

‘No, I think his finest moment was his defense of Brett Kavanaugh, who’s a terrific guy, and was treated very, very unfairly by the Democrats. Very – I’ve never seen anything like it,’ Trump replied, speaking of the US Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.

‘He was treated so unfairly, and Lindsey, as you remember, had that moment. I think it was the top 10, maybe the top five moments in the history of the senate. It was an incredible display, and he did it from the heart,’ he added.

Trump’s comment refers to when Graham fiercley defended Kavanaugh against sexual assault allegations during the 2018 Supreme Court confirmation hearings.

The senator blasted the hearing as the ‘most unethical sham’ he ever witnessed in politics, and said that Kavanaugh had ‘nothing to apologize for’ before urging Republicans to support the judge.

Despite stating that he didn’t want to talk about the war, Trump gave Welker a bit more information about the current situation with Iran.

‘It’s open,’ he said in regard to the waterway. ‘We bombed the hell out of them last night. They are very, very evil and sick people. We had meetings with them.

‘They agreed to a deal yesterday, a perfect deal for us, no nuclear, no this, no that, no nothing, they gave up everything.

‘And then after that, they left the room, and then within an hour, they launched a drone at a ship. I said, “You people are sick, you’re sick people”. And, so, it’s one of those things,’ he said before pivoting to talk about Graham.

He recalled Graham being ‘like a member of the family to him,’ and that the two of them had spoken over the phone on Saturday night, just hours before he died.

Trump also revealed that Graham called him to discuss the passage of the SAVE America Act, which Graham co-sponsored in the US Senate.

‘He actually said he was tired, but he wanted to pass the SAVE America Act, and I said, ‘Well, we’re going to get it done, Lindsey. We’re going to get it done. I’ll see you, like, soon,’ Trump noted on Meet the Press.

The SAVE America Act has been passed by the US House of Representatives three times, but has not been passed by the Senate, where it needs 60 votes due to the filibuster.

The office of Graham, who has represented South Carolina since 2002, announced in the early hours of Sunday that the senator, ‘had passed away from a brief and sudden illness.’

Trump had earlier shared a tribute to the late Senator on Truth Social shortly after the announcement was made.

‘Senator Lindsey Graham, one of the greatest people and Senators I have ever known, is dead! He was always working, and was a true American Patriot. Lindsey will be greatly missed!!! DETAILS AND ARRANGEMENTS TO FOLLOW. So sad!,’ Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

Graham was one of Trump’s closest allies in the US Senate, consistently voting to enact the president’s agenda.

The senator was also a staunch supporter of Ukraine and Israel, and he advised the president on foreign policy matters pertaining to Russia and Iran.

In late March 2025, just a little more than a month after Trump took office, the president posted a lengthy endorsement of Graham, referring to the senator as ‘a wonderful friend.’

Unraveling a Powerful Political Partnership: Trump and Lindsey Graham’s Unexpected Alliance

0

WASHINGTON — In the aftermath of the Capitol insurrection on January 6, 2021, Senator Lindsey Graham declared he had reached his limit with the leader idolized by the rioters: President Donald Trump.

“Trump and I have been on an incredible journey. It’s heartbreaking for it to conclude like this. Honestly, it devastates me,” a visibly moved Graham expressed when the Senate resumed following the clearing of the rioters. “From my perspective, he’s been an impactful president. But, I have to say, I’m done. There comes a point where enough is enough.”

Yet, that was far from the end.

Senator Graham, who was a significant figure within the Republican party from South Carolina, unexpectedly passed away at age 71 on a Saturday night. He soon acknowledged that his political party’s fate was tightly interwoven with Trump and swiftly returned to defending him. This reconversion showed that what appeared to be an irreversible break was merely another chapter in the complex and turbulent saga of their political alignment.

“Can we advance without President Trump? The answer is no,” Graham conceded in May 2021, barely four months following the violent breach. “I’ve realized that our growth is impossible without his involvement.”

Trump, who called Graham a “true American Patriot” in a social media post Sunday, appeared shocked by the lawmaker’s sudden passing.

“I just can’t believe it,” the president told NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “He was like a member of the family.”

Graham often advised Trump on foreign affairs, particularly on matters pertaining to Israel, Ukraine and Iran. He was a frequent visitor at the White House.

“At the end of a particularly thrilling and rollicking meeting in the Oval Office, Lindsey Graham turned to the room and said: ‘I’ve never had this much fun in my life,'” deputy White House chief of staff Stephen Miller wrote on X. He said such gatherings “were filled with camaraderie, kinship and uproarious laughter.”

Trump recalled that during his last conversation with Graham, he told his friend, “We’ll see you soon, come over anytime you want.”

Graham once said Trump’s candidacy was like ‘being shot in the head’

The senator and Trump first clashed while competing for the 2016 presidential nomination.

Graham described Trump as “unfit for office,” and was angered when Trump denigrated the military service of Graham’s close friend, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz. Trump suggested, “I like people that weren’t captured” when talking about McCain’s years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam.

Trump got mad enough at Graham to release the senator’s personal cellphone number. That prompted a viral video in which the senator dramatically destroyed a series of flip phones. He smashed one with a meat cleaver and another with a golf club, then used lighter fluid, a blender and toaster oven to pulverize others before tossing one off the roof.

Graham eventually likened Trump’s winning the nomination to “being shot in the head” and said he refused to vote for Trump that November. But the pair later bonded over golf and what Graham described as a mutual and irreverent sense of humor.

Trump and Graham began so frequently hitting the links together that the senator started seeing it as something of a career builder, leaning heavily into the kind of over-the-top flattery Trump relishes. In 2017, Graham joked that Trump had beaten him “like a drum” on the course – even worse than in the presidential primary.

“Their true friendship could only be seen behind the curtain,” Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., told ABC’s “This Week.” Scott said that relationship was forged as political adversaries but also strengthened by spending 100-plus hours golfing together.

During Trump’s first term, Graham helped advance Trump’s nominees to the Supreme Court, lent credibility to the White House’s legislative agenda and even at times became part of the president’s inner circle. He frequently said Trump was maturing in politics and growing on the job.

Graham’s political divergence with McCain, who died in 2018, was never more clear than in 2017, when McCain voted against a Trump-backed plan to overturn Democratic President Barack Obama’s signature health care law. The effort had been co-sponsored by Graham.

A split that was short-lived, an alliance reignited

In his floor speech after the Capitol attack, Graham said “he’d never been so humiliated and embarrassed for the country.” But the break with Trump ended quickly.

Weeks later, Trump invited Graham for golf and dinner at the president’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, reigniting their alliance. During Trump’s 2024 campaign, Graham was a frequent Trump surrogate on television, promoting U.S. military strength that he said would advance “America First” policies.

Graham never shed his more traditional Republican foreign policy views, including outspoken support for Ukraine during the Russian invasion. He was also a leading voice pushing the White House to more fully embrace Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and take a harder line against Iran.

After the U.S. and Israel attacked Iran in February, Graham remained hawkish, staunchly defending the action and working to counter many in Trump’s “Make America Great Again” base who thought “America First” meant avoiding such military conflicts.

“To those who say Iran is stronger now than before, that is an insult to the American military and it is delusional thinking because the Iranian economy is in shambles,” Graham posted on social media June 19.

But Graham’s admiration for Trump went far beyond Iran. When Graham clinched the South Carolina Republican primary last month, he suggested the president was just short of a deity.

“I want to start with a bunch of thank yous. I want to thank the big guy, God. Trump comes later,” Graham laughed. “Mr. President, you’re not far behind God, but we’re gonna start with him.”

Achieving a 60-Second Wall Sit Post-60 Signals Exceptional Leg Strength

    0

This rigorous workout for the lower body effectively targets and trains your leg muscles.

    >

If you’re aiming to develop robust, well-defined legs, bodyweight exercises are an excellent starting point. The beauty of these workouts is that they require no special equipment, allowing you to execute them at home or wherever you find yourself. Consider wall sits as a prime example. Although this exercise may appear straightforward, involving simply leaning against a wall in a seated position for a set duration, it should not be underestimated—it provides a significant challenge to your lower body, effectively strengthening your legs. To hold a wall sit for an extended time, especially after reaching 60, indicates superior leg strength.

Why Is the Wall Sit Considered a Strong Indicator of Lower Body Strength?

Reaching the age of 60 or beyond, maintaining wall sits serves as an excellent measure of leg strength and functionality. This is because they assess the ability to consistently exert force and sustain endurance in key muscles such as the glutes and quads. These muscle groups are vital for everyday activities, which include walking, ascending stairs, standing, and ensuring good posture, according to Deborah Luciano, a NASM Certified Personal Trainer with expertise in Yoga-Go. With more than two decades of experience in health and wellness, Luciano holds qualifications in yoga, spinning, AFAA group fitness, TRX, barre, and Zumba.

“Unlike other assessments, such as rising from a chair or climbing stairs, which involve momentum and coordinated movement to mask weaknesses, wall sits demand an isometric hold. This removes any momentum, requiring muscles to exert sustained force without movement,” Luciano asserts. “The ability to maintain this posture over time showcases the lower body’s muscular endurance. This endurance is crucial for sustaining balance, enhancing mobility, and supporting independent function among older adults.”

4 Chair Exercises That Strengthen Legs Faster Than Squats After 55

How Does Wall Sit Performance Translate To Real-Life Activities?

The goal of wall sits is to establish isometric muscular endurance in the core and lower body. This exercise calls for your muscles to remain in a static position while resisting gravity, which teaches your body to sustain effort and delay fatigue during long periods of muscle engagement.

“Standing up, for example, uses similar hip and knee angles to a wall sit, so building endurance in this position may make sit-to-stand movements easier and reduce reliance on using the arms to push off,” Luciano explains. “Other activities, such as stair climbing, may also benefit from improved lower body endurance and stabilizer strength, helping build muscle stamina and delay fatigue during repeated steps. Walking depends on additional factors like balance, coordination, and cardiovascular, but a stronger lower-body can contribute to overall stability and stamina, making the everyday task a bit easier.”

If You Can Do These 8 Lower-Body Moves, Your Leg Strength Is Elite

How To Do a Wall Sit

Here’s how to perform a wall sit.

    1. Stand tall with your back pressed against a wall and arms extended ahead of you.
    2. Slide down until your knees are bent at a 90-degree angle as if you’re sitting in a chair.
    3. Hold the position for the prescribed amount of time.

How Often To Do Wall Sits

For best results without putting your safety at risk, Luciano recommends doing wall sits two to three times a week, carving out time for a rest day in between sessions. For total beginners, performing two to four sets per session with holds between 10 to 30 seconds should serve as a solid benchmark.

“Once you feel comfortable and confident in your form, you can gradually increase the time under tension, adding around five to 10 seconds per week. Additionally, rather than pushing to complete exhaustion as a beginner, it is better to stop one to two sets before reaching that point,” Luciano notes.

4 Bed Exercises That Restore Thigh Strength Faster Than Squats After 65

What Wall Sit Duration Is “Top-Tier” for Adults Over 60?

Various factors like body weight, gender, workout history, and other health-related conditions make it challenging to pinpoint a universal standard. However, according to Luciano, being able to hold a wall sit for more than 90 seconds would be considered “excellent” for those 60, with the average hold time being anywhere from 30 to 40 seconds. Anything less than 20 seconds would be “below average.”

“When it comes to wall sits, duration is not the only factor that matters, as maintaining proper form can be just as important when interpreting results. So, for anyone doing the exercise for the first time, try to focus on your positioning as well as your hold to ensure better results and progress as you practice,” Luciano tells us.

If You Can Hold a Wall Sit This Long After 60, Your Lower-Body Power Is Top-Tier

    Safety Caveats

While wall sits are generally safe for most adults in the 60+ age group (when performed properly), there are some things to keep in mind.

“Caution is advised when there are pre-existing conditions such as knee pain or osteoarthritis, hip or lower-back discomfort, or balance impairments,” Luciano says. “Thankfully, there are simple ways to modify the exercise. Start by reducing the depth, staying at a higher position with less bend in your knees for lower joint stress. Shortening the hold times and using support, such as a rail or countertop, are great modifications to make the exercise more accessible.”

Nancy Mace’s Ambitious Bid: Eyeing Lindsey Graham’s Senate Seat

    0

The unexpected passing of US Senator Lindsey Graham was announced on Sunday morning, setting off a significant shift in the race for his Senate seat in South Carolina. Among those considering a run is Nancy Mace.

Nancy Mace, a Congresswoman from South Carolina, had previously ended up last in the GOP primary for Governor back in June, where she managed to secure only 12 percent of the votes.

Despite this, there have been numerous reports circulating on Sunday suggesting that Mace is contemplating a political comeback.

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster, who is unable to run for another term, will appoint an interim successor to Graham. This appointee must succeed in both a primary and a general election before taking on a full term as a US Senator.

Mace hinted at her possible return to politics by sharing a video clip from The Godfather: Part III, where actor Michael Corleone famously says, “Just when I thought I was out… they pull me back in…” However, her potential return to the political stage hasn’t been warmly welcomed by conservative circles.

President Donald Trump teased that he had someone in mind to succeed Graham when asked about the future of the seat on NBC’s Meet the Press earlier on Sunday, but declined to provide a name out of respect of his former primary foe turned friend, ally, and golf buddy.

‘I have somebody that I think would be great. But I don’t want to say it now because, you know, it’s too soon with Lindsey,’ Trump told Meet the Press moderator Kirsten Welker.

‘I don’t want to even talk about anybody. But I do have somebody that I think is really good,’ Trump added.

Mace’s former Republican House colleague and convicted fraudster, George Santos, wrote sarcastically on X, ‘Do it! Please I need more s**t posting content.’

Conservative author and American Majority CEO Ned Ryun, son of former Kansas Congressman and Olympic runner Jim Ryun, noted on X that no one was pulling Mace into the race.

‘Rational people might think, I just got DEAD LAST in a 5 way statewide primary a few weeks ago. Maybe the people of SC don’t want me to represent them. Maybe I should hang it up,’ Ryun noted,  before adding that the outgoing representative was ‘apparently preparing herself for another walk of shame.’

Mace’s fellow House GOP colleague Joe Wilson, 78, the most senior Republican in the South Carolina congressional delegation, was another name floated as Graham’s replacement, but he has opted himself out.

Wilson’s political campaign account posted on X on Sunday morning that he had spoken to President Trump, when he let him know that his ‘goal is to remain in the House to keep his two-vote majority for the American people!!!’

Wilson’s adopted son, Alan, is likely to be the state’s next governor after beating current Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette in the GOP runoff last month.

Evette herself could also be floated for the Senate posting, after garnering just over 30 percent of the vote in the runoff election for governor against Alan Wilson.

She was the top vote-getter in the state’s primary but was unable to coalesce support from the rest of her former primary field in the runoff.

A list of potential Graham successors floated by Politics1 also included Congressman Ralph Norman, who also ran in the GOP gubernatorial primary, as well as former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, who previously served as the state’s governor.

Mace would bring significant baggage into the Senate race, aside from a poor performance in the June primary.

She became a major thorn in Trump’s side during her push to release the Epstein files in the US House of Representatives during the last year.

Mace has also been accused of being a difficult boss and of mistreating her own staff, and she was even filmed in a heated altercation with Charleston airport staff in her home state of South Carolina.

The office of Graham, who had represented South Carolina since 2002, announced in the early hours of Sunday that the senator had, ‘passed away from a brief and sudden illness.’

A 911 call for ‘cardiac arrest’ was placed from Graham’s residence around 8.30pm, but no official cause of death has been confirmed, according to multiple reports.

Roman Relic Unearthed in England After 1,600 Years: A Glimpse into Ancient Spirituality

    0

In a remarkable discovery, archaeologists have uncovered a sculpture from the Roman Empire, believed to be a “guardian spirit,” which lay hidden beneath an ancient military site in the English countryside for 1,600 years.

This well-preserved sandstone figure was recently discovered during an excavation of the barracks at Vindolanda, a site of a former Roman fortress located near Northumberland’s Hadrian’s Wall, as reported by Archaeology News.

Identified as a “Genius,” a protective spirit revered by the Romans, the sculpture was unearthed on June 16, having been shielded from the elements by a flagstone slab for over a millennium and a half.

The reasons behind its concealment remain a mystery to archaeologists.

Dr. Andrew Birley, director of excavations, expressed the significance of this find to the BBC, stating, “As archaeologists, moments like these are incredibly rare, and we feel privileged to have uncovered and preserved such an important part of the site’s story.”

“It was almost as though Vindolanda itself had reached out to the team and quietly said: ‘We approve of what you are doing,’” Birley said.

Birley initially did not know who or what the sculpture was, but Hadrian’s Wall scholars identified it as a protective spirit called a Genius by the Romans.

The figure is holding in one hand a cornucopia overflowing with food – a symbol of prosperity, the report said.

On the other hand, it holds a dish for offerings, the BBC said.

The sculpture is believed to have been carved locally and is currently under a detailed examination before it can go on public display in the on-site museum in Hexham.

The Vindolanda Charitable Trust believes the mysterious figure could offer insight into the lives and religious beliefs of soldiers stationed at the fortress in the Fourth Century.

New 911 Audio Illuminates Night of Lindsey Graham’s Passing

    0

Recently released dispatch audio and images provide a sobering glimpse into the night US Senator Lindsey Graham unexpectedly passed away at age 71. The recordings detail the frantic attempts made to save his life.

As revealed by reports from CNN and The Wall Street Journal, emergency services were summoned to Graham’s residence on Saturday evening following a call about a ‘cardiac arrest’ situation.

Responders reached a residence located south of Washington, D.C., shortly before 8:30 p.m. This address, as noted in public records, is associated with Graham. There, the team administered CPR to an individual experiencing cardiac arrest, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Subsequently, officials communicated over the radio that a woman, identified later, was driving from Baltimore and informed dispatchers that the front door to the residence was open.

Contrary to her report, first responders found the door locked upon arrival. By 8:35 p.m., officials radioed in their decision to force entry into the unknown person’s home, according to the media outlet.

Nearly 15 minutes later, EMS reported that they were administering CPR and dispatchers sent a supervisor to assist the crew.

Graham’s name was not mentioned, and the patient in the 911 call was identified as 73 years old.

Chilling photos obtained by TMZ showed paramedics desperately attempting to save the senator’s life.

Graham is seen on a gurney, being wheeled out of his home, as first responders surrounded him.

Graham was one of Trump’s closest allies in the US Senate, consistently voting to enact the president’s agenda.

The commander-in-chief also shared the final conversation he had with the senator, revealing what he claims was the veteran Republican’s last political wish before his unexpected death.

In a Sunday morning interview on NBC’s Meet the Press, Trump revealed that Graham was ‘like a member of the family to him,’ and that the two had spoken over the phone on Saturday night.

Trump also revealed that Graham called him to discuss the passage of the SAVE America Act, which Graham co-sponsored in the US Senate.

In a separate interview with CNN on Sunday morning, Trump revealed to anchor Jake Tapper what he considered to be Graham’s finest moment in the US Senate: his defense of now-Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh during his confirmation process.

Graham’s death comes just days after he visited Ukraine and met with the country’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, to discuss the ongoing Russian invasion.

His meeting with the leader of Ukraine is understood to be the last public image of him.

There were no known concerns about his health in the lead-up to his trip to the embattled nation.

How to Handle an Encounter with the Explosive Diarrhea Parasite: Next Steps and Tips

(NEXSTAR) – A recent surge in illnesses caused by a parasite has affected hundreds, raising concerns about the safety of consuming fruits and vegetables. Authorities are diligently investigating the source of this issue, but until then, it’s understandable to feel hesitant about what you eat.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported at least 145 cyclosporiasis cases across the U.S. since May. Alarmingly, numbers in some states are much higher, with Michigan alone confirming over 1,000 cases by July 9.

Cyclosporiasis is an infection caused by the Cyclospora cayetanensis parasite, which is uncommon in the U.S. The parasite spreads through food and water tainted with fecal matter. According to health officials in Wisconsin, some individuals may contract the parasite while traveling to regions where it is more prevalent. CDC reports indicate that at least 45 individuals have fallen ill after consuming contaminated food or water abroad.

Within the U.S., cyclosporiasis cases are frequently linked to contaminated fresh produce, such as romaine lettuce, basil, cilantro, snow peas, and raspberries. Although the cause of the current cases remains unidentified, the CDC has stated there is “no evidence of a single, multistate … outbreak” at this time.

Nonetheless, you may find yourself apprehensive about being exposed, especially based on the possible symptoms you could experience.

Not everyone who becomes ill has symptoms. Among those who do, as the CDC and Cleveland Clinic explain, the main symptom is frequent, watery diarrhea that can be loud and “sometimes explosive.”

Other symptoms can include a loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, “bloating, including burping and farting,” low-grade fever, and extreme tiredness. These symptoms can set in between two days and two weeks after infection.

If you are experiencing symptoms, healthcare experts encourage you to seek medical care. A stool test is necessary to determine whether you have cyclosporiasis.

For some people, illness will “self-resolve after a few days,” Dr. Katie Theoktisto of Baylor Scott & White told Nexstar’s KXAN.

“If you’re having a diarrheal illness that’s lasting over a week or two, it’s probably something unusual,” she warned, saying that “those with prolonged symptoms should seek care from their health care providers.”

Young children, pregnant women, elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems may be more severely impacted by the parasite, Theoktisto said. They may also experience a recurrence of symptoms.

Theoktisto said there are treatment options available. That can include antibiotics, according to the Cleveland Clinic, antidiarrheal medications, and hydration. If you are allergic to sulfa drugs, your doctor can use other options.

While those with healthy immune systems may be able to recover on their own, others could be “sick for anywhere from a few days to a month or longer,” the CDC says. Symptoms can come and go, and you may be at risk for “severe or long illness.” Left untreated, cyclosporiasis can stick around for a month or longer.

Thankfully, cyclospora is not believed to be transmitted from person to person.

To protect yourself, health experts recommend washing produce thoroughly before eating, cutting, or cooking.

If you’re going to refrigerate cut, peeled, or cooked produce, do so as soon as possible. Experts also recommend cutting away any damaged or bruised areas of fruits and vegetables before using them.

Police Report: Father Accused of Causing 25 Fractures to Gassy Infant in Overreaction Incident

    Anthony Hildreth (Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office).

A troubling case has emerged from Florida, where a man is facing accusations of causing 25 fractures in the bones of a baby left in his care. Law enforcement officials report that the man allegedly admitted to repeatedly squeezing the infant’s ribs out of frustration, claiming he was attempting to alleviate the child’s gas pains.

Identified as 31-year-old Anthony Hildreth from Jacksonville, he confessed to police that he felt disappointed with himself for not being able to comfort the crying baby, as noted in the arrest documentation.

“Anthony advised that [the child] was crying and he became frustrated by that,” states the report from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. His frustration allegedly led to the harmful actions as described.

According to the investigation, Hildreth admitted to employing various methods in a misguided effort to relieve the child’s discomfort on June 30. That evening, after the baby was placed under his care, the child began crying. On the same day, a daytime caretaker noted that the baby seemed gassy but showed no signs of injury or distress.

“One of these techniques included squeezing the ribs starting from light pressure to more pressure until he passed gas,” the report says. “Another technique utilized by Anthony was ‘bicycle kicks,’ where he would push [the child’s] legs to his chest.”

Hildreth told police he used these techniques several times throughout the night to soothe the infant. “Anthony noticed that [the child’s] breathing was different after he squeezed his to release his gas,” the arrest report says.

Around 3 a.m., the woman — who was also at the home and had been sleeping — woke up to the baby crying. “Anthony then notified [the woman] he was worried about the breathing as it appeared to be abnormal,” according to police. “Anthony furthermore stated he could have caused the rib fractures by the amount of pressure he utilized when squeezing near the ribs to release gas.”

The child was brought to a local hospital due to the breathing issues and medical staff reported that he had 24 fractures to his ribs and a fracture to his right femur near the knee. Police were notified and made contact with Hildreth and the woman.

“Anthony was unsure of how the fracture to the femur was caused,” the arrest report says. “Anthony stated [the child’s] leg got stuck in the swaddling device unknowingly and he did not notice until he pulled harder on the swaddling device. Due to the severity of the fractures caused to [the child] Anthony was arrested for aggravated child abuse.”

Hildreth was released on a $50,003 bond and placed on home detention with electronic monitoring. He has entered a plea of not guilty.
