Mother Found Guilty Again in Child Homicide Case

In a grim recurrence of tragedy, a 41-year-old mother from Ohio is set to return to prison. Krystal D. Krause has admitted her involvement in the death of her second child, over a decade after she was incarcerated for a similar incident with her first child.

Appearing in Lake County Court on Thursday, Krause pled guilty to charges of reckless homicide and child endangerment concerning the 2023 death of her 2-month-old son, referred to in court as “DK,” as revealed in court documents.

This plea marks Krause’s second conviction following an earlier incident in 2009 when her 3-year-old son tragically drowned.

During the recent court proceedings, prosecutors disclosed new details about DK’s tragic demise. According to reports by CBS affiliate WOIO, DK suffocated after being placed in an unsafe sleeping environment, despite repeated warnings from doctors and caregivers about appropriate practices for infant sleep. This revelation was made public for the first time during the hearing.

A recently unsealed indictment alleged Krause, acting as the child’s parent, “recklessly” created a “substantial risk” to the infant’s health and safety by violating her duty of care and ultimately causing his death.

Officers with the Wickliffe Police Department on Nov. 15, 2023, responded to the family’s home on Ridge Road after receiving a report of an unresponsive infant, Cleveland NBC affiliate WKYC reported. First responders found the 2-month-old boy face down atop Krause’s bed. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

After an investigation, the case was presented to a Lake County grand jury, which returned the indictment in April, court records show.

The guilty plea marks the second time Krause has been convicted in the death of one of her children.

Court records show Krause was indicted in Summit County in 2009 on charges of involuntary manslaughter and child endangering following the death of her 3-year-old son.

According to WKYC’s reporting on that earlier case, investigators said the boy drowned after wandering outside and falling into a swimming pool while Krause was inside the home. She told police she had gone to the bathroom for about 10 minutes while the child was playing in the living room before discovering what had happened.

Under a plea agreement, the involuntary manslaughter charge was reduced to reckless homicide, and she pleaded guilty to reckless homicide and child endangering before receiving a two-year prison sentence.

Records show Krause was arrested April 9 in the current case after the grand jury returned the indictment two days earlier. She initially pleaded not guilty before changing her plea Thursday. She is represented by the Lake County Public Defender’s Office.

Krause is scheduled to appear for her sentencing hearing on Aug. 13, according to court records. Court records indicate she is facing between 18 months and six years in prison along with a fine of up to $20,000.

Christine Wonsley, the grieving mother of Nolan Wells, recently shared a poignant memory of her son’s last words to her before his untimely death. The heartbreaking revelation adds yet another layer of tragedy to a story already filled with sorrow.

Nolan Wells, an 18-year-old college football athlete, went missing during a seemingly carefree Fourth of July outing. He ventured to the secluded Horn Island in Mississippi with friends, eager to enjoy a boating adventure. What should have been a memorable day with friends ended tragically, casting a shadow over the summer festivities.

The search for Nolan concluded in heartbreak as his body was discovered the following Monday. Investigators worked quickly to confirm his identity, relying on dental records to provide the conclusive answer everyone dreaded.

In a heartfelt recollection shared during a press conference in Harlem, Wonsley painted a vivid picture of her last moments with her son. Fondly, she recalled how Nolan had prepared a salmon dinner before heading over to stay the night with one of the friends who would accompany him on the ill-fated trip.

Reflecting on their final exchange, she recounted with emotion, “After dinner, he simply said, ‘Hey mom, I’m about to go; love you.’ It was a hug, a kiss, and he was off,” Wonsley shared, responding to questions from The Post. Her words are a bittersweet testament to a young life full of promise and prematurely cut short.

Birmingham Man’s 20-Year Prison Term: Convicted Murderer Faces Gun and Drug Charges

0

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — In a significant legal development, a man from Birmingham with a past murder conviction has been handed a 20-year prison sentence on gun and drug charges, once again steering him into the clutches of the law.

Francis Williams, aged 33, was sentenced to 240 months in prison with an additional 10 years of supervised release. His transgressions included the distribution of methamphetamine, as well as using and carrying a firearm amidst drug-trafficking activities. These charges resulted from his guilty plea entered this past March.

According to court records, the saga began when Williams sold methamphetamine on two separate occasions in April and May 2023, with a confidential informant tipping off authorities. Notably, he allegedly brandished a weapon during one of these transactions. By September 2023, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency had issued an arrest warrant against him for methamphetamine trafficking.

Law enforcement finally apprehended Williams on January 6, 2025, as he was departing a Birmingham residence. The subsequent search revealed multiple firearms in his possession, including a “Glock switch.” Due to his history of serious felony convictions, including the 2013 murder case, Williams was already prohibited from possessing firearms.

Controversy Surrounds Hurricanes Owner Tom Dundon’s Decision to Include Family Names on Stanley Cup

0

NHL enthusiasts are expressing outrage as Carolina Hurricanes owner Tom Dundon has taken the unusual step of inscribing his family’s names on the revered Stanley Cup. This move has stirred additional controversy because he not only included them but placed their names at the very top of the list.

The NHL Cup allows for a maximum of 55 names to be engraved, a privilege usually reserved for those closely tied to a team’s success after a championship. Tom Dundon, however, chose to include six names from his immediate family, listing his wife Veruschka and their five children: Caden, Dax, Drew, Blake, and Tagan.

By doing so, Dundon and his family occupy seven spots on the Cup, which some argue could have been used to honor other deserving individuals within the organization who contributed significantly to the team’s accomplishments.

The primary grievance for many is that several family members do not officially hold any roles within the organization. This decision has sparked a debate about the propriety and tradition associated with inscribing names on the Stanley Cup.

Interestingly, there is a precedent for family names on the Cup. The Detroit Red Wings memorialized nine members of the Ilitch family for the 1997, 1998, 2002, and 2008 championships. However, according to The Athletic, each of these family members had official capacities as part owners or team vice presidents, which lent legitimacy to their inclusion.

The Florida Panthers reportedly did the same last season when the Viola family had five total family members engraved on the Cup –– although they all held titles, including alternate governors.

The Hurricanes do not meet such criteria with the family inclusion.

Still, the names are engraved and fans are not thrilled about it.

“We won’t be commenting as an organization,” a spokesperson for the Hurricanes told The Athletic.

The processes detailed on the official NHL website describe eligibility requirements for engravings, and it appears there were inconsistencies.

“A player is required to have appeared in at least 41 regular-season games with a team, or one Stanley Cup Final game, to be eligible to have his name engraved on the trophy. In 1994, a stipulation was added to allow a team to petition the Commissioner for permission to have players’ names put on the Stanley Cup if extenuating circumstances prevented them from being available to play. The management staff engraved on the trophy is determined by the team. However, it must be approved by the Hockey Hall of Fame and NHL.”

The Hockey Hall of Fame (HHOF) responded to an email from The Athletic on the situation.

“Hockey Operations at the league (NHL) office in Toronto signs off on the names that go on the Stanley Cup. HHOF is not involved in this process.”

It’s a bizarre response considering what the league’s official rules state, and fans are still livid.

The Hurricanes defeated the Golden Knights in six games in the Stanley Cup Finals.

“Dumb Tom Dundon wasted so much space on the Stanley Cup by adding his useless children to it,” one particularly harsh critic on X wrote.

“Children who contributed nothing to the success of that team. What a self serving prick. Shameful.”

Iran Targets Gulf Military Bases Amidst Rising Tensions and Anti-US Warnings

0

Tensions flared in the Gulf on Thursday as Iran’s military forces launched an offensive targeting U.S. military infrastructure situated in neighboring Gulf states. This move came in the wake of American strikes on Iran’s southern coastal and eastern regions, further jeopardizing an already fragile ceasefire agreement that has been in place for three weeks.

On the same day, Iran was preparing for the burial of its Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei at Mashhad, the country’s most sacred site. The solemn event marked the end of a week filled with mass funerals and public demonstrations. Khamenei was killed during a U.S. airstrike on February 28, which had ignited the current conflict.

The U.S. military’s recent operations targeted Iran in a bid to secure the Strait of Hormuz, after Iran posed a threat by targeting three commercial tankers in the strategic waterway. This was part of the U.S.’s wider strategy to maintain open sea channels vital for international trade and energy supplies.

This escalated assault came just after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he regarded the ceasefire with Iran as “over,” while hinting at the possibility of further negotiations.

According to state media reports, Iranian officials stated that U.S. attacks resulted in the deaths of 14 individuals and injured 78 more across five provinces on the dates of July 8 and 9. Among the targeted infrastructures was a rail bridge crucial for trade with Russia and China, as reported by the Fars news agency.

Several explosions were heard on Thursday morning in Iran’s Bushehr province, the semi-official Mehr news agency reported. Bushehr is home to a Russian-built nuclear power plant.

US military sites in Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain targeted

Iran’s army said in a statement released by state media that it had targeted US Patriot systems with drones in Kuwait, an early warning site in Qatar (satellite antenna) and a fuel storage facility of the US army in Bahrain.

Kuwait said its armed forces had engaged with a cruise missile, three ballistic missiles and 10 drones in its airspace, and that one person had been injured from falling shrapnel.

Qatar, which hosts the largest US military base in the region and has often mediated between Washington and its adversaries, including Tehran, called for a return to diplomacy.

In a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi, Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani also condemned attacks targeting commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

While Iran has not claimed responsibility for the ship attacks, analysts say Tehran uses such actions to gain leverage in negotiations.

The Strait of Hormuz handled about a fifth of global oil supplies before the war erupted on 28 February with US and Israeli strikes against Iran.

Tehran has since taken effective control of the strait, allowing it to force a stalemate in its confrontation with the world’s most powerful military.

“The US has yet to learn that bullying and breaking its commitments no longer come without a cost. Let me be clear: If you strike, you will be struck back,” Iran’s top negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, wrote on X.

“The Strait of Hormuz will be reopened only under Iranian arrangements, not through US threats,” wrote Ghalibaf, who is also speaker of Iran’s parliament.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Wednesday its forces had struck approximately 90 Iranian military targets, including air defence systems, coastal surveillance assets, missile and drone storage sites, naval capabilities, and military logistics infrastructure along Iran’s coastline.

“The United States is holding Iran accountable for recent unjustified aggression against commercial shipping and civilian crews freely navigating a vital international waterway,” CENTCOM said in a statement.

“This is in retribution for yesterday’s bombing of ships by Iran. If it happens again, it will get much worse!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform on Wednesday.

Mystery Deepens: Daughter Reveals Stepdad’s Sinister Threats After Mom Vanishes from Bahamas ‘Soulmate’ Boat

0

The daughter of an American woman who vanished in the Bahamas has brought to light troubling details about her stepfather’s past. Her mother went missing after tumbling overboard during a boat trip with her husband.

Lynette Hooker, a 55-year-old resident of Onsted, Michigan, fell into the waters off the Abaco Islands while she and her 58-year-old partner, Brian Hooker, were headed to their yacht named Soulmate moored at Elbow Cay last Saturday.

Brian Hooker informed the police that they departed from Hope Town around 7:30 PM in an eight-foot dinghy.

According to his account, Lynette lost her balance and fell overboard due to adverse weather conditions. She was holding the dinghy’s key at the time, causing the engine to stall.

In response to the incident, Bahamian and U.S. authorities initiated a cooperative search-and-rescue mission, with the U.S. Coast Guard later joining the operation from the air.

By Tuesday, the teams announced the mission had become a recovery operation, Hope Town Volunteer Fire and Rescue Lead Richard Cook told CNN.

As the desperate search continues, Lynette’s daughter, Karli Aylesworth, 28, shared harrowing details about her mother and stepfather’s relationship.

‘There is a history of him choking her out and threatening to throw her overboard. So, the fact that this is actually happening makes me believe there’s more to the story,’ she told Fox News.

‘There has also been a history of domestic violence in that relationship, so I do believe something might have happened to her.’

Aylesworth explained why she felt the circumstances surrounding her mother’s disappearance were suspicious and called for a full investigation into what happened.

‘It just doesn’t add up. My mom is very fit and strong. She’s a good swimmer, like, why was she swimming away from the boat?’ she said.

‘I’m confused why she has the keys because she never drove the dinghy. It was always Brian. So the story just doesn’t add up right now.’

Aylesworth shared a voicemail Hooker sent her with CBS News, in which he spoke about throwing a flotation device to Lynette after she fell.

‘Hello, honey, it’s Dad. I just got a call from Hope Town Search and Rescue, and they found the flotation device that I threw to Mom when she fell overboard,’ he told his stepdaughter.

Aylesworth’s comments come just a day after she released a statement calling for a more thorough investigation by US federal officials.

‘I have been privy to very little information. My sole concern is to find out what happened to my mother and make sure a full and complete investigation is performed into her disappearance,’ she said.

‘While the Royal Bahamian police are investigating this matter, I would also appreciate any involvement of the federal, state or local authorities to look into the circumstances of this tragic situation.’

Hooker broke his silence in a Wednesday morning Facebook post, writing that he is ‘heartbroken’ over Lynette’s disappearance.

‘I am heartbroken over the recent boat accident in unpredictable seas and high winds that caused my beloved Lynette to fall from our small dinghy near Elbow Cay in the Bahamas,’ he wrote.

‘Despite desperate attempts to reach her, the winds and currents drove us further apart. We continue to search for her and that is my sole focus.’

The Daily Mail contacted Hooker for comment.

The couple regularly documented their life on the water on social media under the username The Sailing Hookers, often showcasing their yacht.

In their most recent Instagram post, shared Friday afternoon, they featured a small boat with the caption, ‘Not going anywhere for a while?!’

Meanwhile, their YouTube channel further captured years of life on the open water, with short videos filmed aboard Soulmate.

The final video, posted just four weeks ago, showed the couple in the Bahamas taking an early-morning paddleboard trip along Marsh Harbour, known as a ‘world-class boating destination.’

Urgent Search: White Male Suspect in Ann Widdecombe ‘Murder’ Mystery

0

Authorities have initiated a murder investigation into the death of Ann Widdecombe, who was discovered at her Devon residence with a head injury, marked by blood.

The discovery was made when police responded to a call from paramedics after they found the former Conservative prisons minister with ‘serious injuries’ at her home in Haytor, Dartmoor at 11:40 am the previous day.

The 78-year-old’s passing was initially communicated by her management this morning, with early reports indicating no foul play, suggesting natural causes.

However, this afternoon, a statement from Devon and Cornwall Police revealed that a murder investigation is underway, and they are searching for a ‘white male’ who they believe to be linked to the incident.

Detective Chief Inspector Ilona Rosson stated: “The murder investigation is in its infancy but progressing rapidly. We are utilizing all available resources to determine the exact circumstances and to track down the individual we suspect, identified as a white male.”

‘I would appeal to anyone who may have information about this incident, however insignificant it may seem, to come forward and speak with us.

‘We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the vicinity of Haytor Vale, Haytor, or anyone with CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage which could assist with our investigation.’

Forensic officers are in the process of examining Miss Widdecombe’s property, which is surrounded by a cordon.

Sir Keir Starmer described the announcement of a murder investigation as ‘really shocking news’ and praised the former MP as a ‘distinguished politician’. He refused to comment when asked if he thought the murder could be politically motivated.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood described the circumstances as ‘extremely distressing’ but urged the public not to speculate.

‘I am deeply saddened to hear of the death of Ann Widdecombe,’ she said. ‘The circumstances of her death are extremely distressing and my thoughts are with Ann’s family and loved ones.

‘Ann’s dedication to public service was decades long, and she was a true servant of her constituents.

‘I have spoken to the Chief Constable of Devon and Cornwall police today. The Home Office stands ready to provide whatever support they need with their ongoing investigation. I urge everyone to avoid speculation and allow the police investigation to progress.’

After arriving at Miss Widdecombe’s home, officers spoke to a carer who worked for her and is believed to have found her body, it is understood.

Known for her redoubtable, no-nonsense nature, Miss Widdecombe spent more than two decades as a Tory MP before becoming a Brexit Party MEP and joining Reform UK in 2023.

She was last seen on Wednesday while appearing on Talk TV to back Nigel Farage in the Clacton by-election.

Miss Widdecombe also found fame outside politics after starring in Strictly Come Dancing and Celebrity Big Brother. She moved to her home in Dartmoor in 2008 and used the proceeds of her reality TV career to renovate it and install a swimming pool in the garden. In interviews, she recalled walking on Dartmoor as a child and told of admiring its bleak beauty.

Miss Widdecombe’s management team, Cloud9 Management, said: ‘We are absolutely devastated by this news following a very traumatic and upsetting 24 hours.

‘We fully support the police in their investigations and we reiterate the family’s desire not to be contacted at this difficult time. We implore anyone who may have relevant information to contact Devon & Cornwall Police.’

The announcement of the murder investigation has sent shockwaves through British politics.

Sir Keir said it was a moment to ‘rise above any political differences’ and said he had spoken to Nigel Farage, Andy Burnham and Kemi Badenoch.

Asked whether the murder is believed to have been politically motivated, the Prime Minister said the security of politicians ‘is of the utmost importance’ but he would not speculate on any potential motive.

‘It’s really important we remain vigilant. I’m not going to speculate about this particular case,’ he said.

‘The chief constable has briefed me on the details as they’re known at the moment, but I think it’s very important for us to have in our thoughts the family and friends of Ann Widdecombe and, to be clear, the single most important thing at the moment is that the suspect is apprehended as quickly as possible by the police.

‘And I urge everybody listening or watching this who’s got any information at all which may be of assistance to the police to come forward to make sure that someone who is clearly dangerous is apprehended as quickly as possible, and the police investigation can proceed on that basis.’

Tory leader Mrs Badenoch said she was ‘stunned’ by the development and said her ‘heart is breaking for her family’.

She was echoed by Labour MP Stella Creasy, who said she was ‘shocked to hear of these developments’.

Mr Farage was among those paying tribute to Miss Widdecombe earlier today, calling her an ‘absolute force of nature’.

The Reform UK leader told TalkTV: ‘She never let anyone… with any doubt in their minds at all where she stood on all the great issues of the day, and she was formidable too.

‘I mean, I can tell you, the times when I used to get a phone call from Ann, abrupt Ann on the phone, saying she disagreed with what I’d done or what I’d said.

‘And you know, she’d come to London and we’d sit down over a coffee and talk things through. But that was the thing about Ann: that all the disagreements she had with us over policy and direction and all the normal debate, that was always kept behind closed doors.

‘You know, in public, she was the most incredibly loyal ally.’

He added that Miss Widdecombe moving to the Brexit Party was a ‘very significant’ moment in ‘our political history’, adding: ‘She made us look serious. She made us look real.’

Earlier today, Mrs Badenoch called her a ‘formidable politician’.

The Tory leader said in a post on social media: ‘My deepest condolences and those of the Conservative Party to the family and friends of Ann Widdecombe.

‘She was a formidable politician who was never afraid to speak her mind and fought hard for what she believed. Always true to herself, her politics were strongly guided by her faith and her values. Rest in Peace, Ann.’

Anton Du Beke, who was partnered with Miss Widdecombe on Strictly Come Dancing in 2010, said he was ‘devastated’ by the news.

‘I had the most brilliant time with Ann on Strictly Come Dancing,’ he said. ‘She became a real friend. She was fun. She was upbeat. She was positive. She was supportive.

‘We had an incredible time together and we stayed firm friends.

‘My thoughts go out to all of her nearest and dearest and all her family. This is a sad day and I’m devastated by the news of Ann’s passing but I shall remember her fondly, and miss her.’

California’s $104 Million Cannabis Bust: Massive 63,000-Pound Seizure Unveiled

0

Over the course of three months, California authorities have made a substantial impact in their fight against illicit activities, seizing more than 63,000 pounds of illegal cannabis valued at over $104 million. In a concerted effort aimed at dismantling organized criminal networks, the operations also resulted in the confiscation of firearms and cash.

From April through June, state officials executed a series of targeted enforcement actions across ten counties. During this period, more than 89,000 cannabis plants were eradicated, 17 firearms were confiscated, and $220,000 in cash was seized. These operations also led to the arrest of 24 individuals, as reported by the office of Governor Gavin Newsom.

Since the inception of California’s Unified Cannabis Enforcement Task Force by Governor Newsom in 2022, the state has managed to seize and destroy over 841,000 pounds of illicit cannabis, cumulatively valued at more than $1.3 billion. This significant effort underscores the ongoing battle against illegal cannabis trade in the state.

“Disrupting the illegal cannabis market is about much more than merely seizing unlicensed products,” Governor Newsom emphasized in a statement. “It’s about dismantling criminal networks, ensuring illegal firearms are removed from the hands of dangerous individuals, and stopping actions that pose a threat to public safety.”

“Through strong multiagency collaboration, California is making clear: if you threaten our communities, we will act,” he added.

The largest enforcement operation took place between May 14 and June 3 across the southern Central Valley and northern Antelope Valley, where the California Department of Fish and Wildlife led a multiagency effort serving 26 search warrants at illegal cannabis sites in Tulare, Kern and Los Angeles counties.

Authorities eradicated nearly 24,000 cannabis plants, destroyed roughly 3,700 pounds of processed cannabis, seized cash, and arrested or cited multiple individuals.

Investigators also uncovered numerous environmental violations, including 13 cultivation sites where banned, unregistered or foreign-labeled pesticides were found or suspected.

Kern County accounted for the largest seizure during the three-month operation, with authorities confiscating more than 25,000 pounds of illegal cannabis valued at $41.5 million and destroying 26,442 plants.

Authorities also seized more than 14,500 pounds of illegal cannabis in Alameda County, valued at more than $24 million.

California Department of Fish and Wildlife Director Meghan Hertel said investigators routinely find restricted pesticides at illegal grow sites tied to organized criminal enterprises.

She warned the toxic chemicals threaten wildlife and can also pose a risk to consumers because illegally grown cannabis isn’t tested for safety.

Charley Hull’s Mid-Round Ice Cream Delivery Creates Buzz at Evian Championship

On sweltering days, indulging in an ice cream cone can be incredibly rewarding. For one golfer, however, this sweet treat became more than just a way to cool off – it seemingly turned into a symbol of good luck.

Charley Hull began her journey at the Evian Championship with some challenges, recording two bogeys within her first six holes. However, she soon found her rhythm, finishing the last 12 holes with an impressive 7-under par score.

Amidst this remarkable performance, Hull paused her game briefly to hold an ice cream cone during her round.

Interestingly, she didn’t actually eat any of the ice cream, despite what many might have assumed.

“I didn’t eat the ice cream. My boyfriend got it for my caddie, so I held it for a minute when he was putting my club in the bag,” Hull shared with reporters.

Hull said she does eat during golf tournaments, but her dietary plan is more nutritious, including items like bars and bananas.

“I always eat every other hole,” Hull said. “So I eat on the third, the fifth, and the seventh, and then just every hole in pretty much.”

Although Hull said she didn’t have ice cream, her turnaround was still sparked by confidence and resilience.

“I kind of just believed in myself and just kind of relaxed out there and took my time and took advantage of the birdies,” she said.

After being forced to withdraw from last year’s Evian Championship due to an illness, Hull is currently playing her 11th event of the season.

Before missing the cut at the Women’s PGA, she finished in the top 10 at the Chevron and in the top 2 at the U.S. Women’s Open.

Despite a rocky start, Hull currently sits in the top three at Evian and three back of Aki Iwai’s lead at 8 under.

“Very lucky to be here – it’s almost like a little holiday,” Hull said of being at the tournament.
