Tragic Discovery: Body Matching Missing Teen Nolan Wells Located Off Mississippi Coast Ending Search Efforts

Authorities have ended the search for a Mississippi teenager who vanished over the holiday weekend after discovering a body that fits his description on Monday morning.

Jackson County Sheriff John Ledbetter reported that at around 8:45 a.m. local time on Monday, a body was found in the water near the northwest tip of Horn Island. This information was confirmed by a report from the New York Post.

Although the body has not been officially identified, Sheriff Ledbetter informed the media that it “does match the description” of 18-year-old Nolan Xavier Wells.

On Monday afternoon, the volunteer organization United Cajun Navy announced that they had halted their search efforts.

“On behalf of the United Cajun Navy, we extend our deepest condolences to Nolan’s family, friends, teammates, and everyone whose lives were touched by him,” the organization wrote in a statement on Facebook. “We are grateful that Nolan’s family entrusted us to assist in this search.”

“… Our teams were proud to provide aerial search operations, boats, and boots on the ground in support of the effort,” the organization continued. “Please continue to keep Nolan’s loved ones in your prayers as they grieve this devastating loss. Rest easy, Nolan. You will not be forgotten.”

Wells was last seen on the Fourth of July near Horn Island, according to authorities. A photo shared with police showed the teen smiling with friends on a boat that afternoon.

Search teams from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Department of Marine Resources, Gulf Islands National Seashore and U.S. Coast Guard combed the island and surrounding waters, establishing a centralized command post at the Lake Mars Boat Launch in Ocean Springs to coordinate the multi-agency effort.

Following the discovery of the body, Wells’ mother shared an emotional message on Facebook.

“His father, our family, friends and I are absolutely devastated,” Christine Wonsley wrote. “My heart [is] broken for my sweet son who was always willing to cheer and uplift others. Nolan was a special soul, God took his time creating our son. I ask that you please give me and my family time to grieve.”

Wonsley and her husband previously posted updates pleading for any photos or videos from the Fourth of July to help track Wells’ last known movements.

“We have so many questions,” she wrote prior to the recovery of the body. “Our hearts are breaking, we keep waiting for Nolan to walk through that door with his beautiful smile and a joke of course.”

Amid their grief, the family is also warning the community about online scammers attempting to capitalize on the tragedy.

“I want you all to know a GoFund Me HAS NOT been created by myself, husband, family or friends,” Wonsley wrote in a separate post. “So if you see any please report that is not authentic. We will notify everyone if we choose to create one.”

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department did not immediately respond to inquiries from News Media.

Perched along the scenic Grand Traverse Bay of Lake Michigan, Traverse City has been anointed as America’s Best Lake Town for 2026 by Boatmart, a leading boating marketplace. Its undeniable allure is bolstered by beautiful marinas, pristine beaches, a highly walkable downtown, and convenient access to the inviting waters of the lake.

However, this newfound accolade comes with a hefty price tag.

As of May, the median listing price for homes in Traverse City stood at a significant $524,000, with waterfront properties commanding a higher premium of $861,000. Aspiring buyers find themselves in a competitive race for the limited options available.

Real estate inventory is tight, with just over 300 active listings reported in May. This figure reflects a slight decrease from the previous year, as relentless demand over the years has gradually eroded the number of available homes, according to Realtor.com.

‘This market has leveled out over the last year with home prices, inventory, and days on market holding roughly steady,’ Realtor.com senior economist Hannah Jones said.

However, she noted that Traverse City has suffered from ‘severe inventory strain’ for the past six years, pushing prices steadily higher as demand continued to outstrip supply. 

For many Americans, Traverse City remains something of a hidden gem.

This year is particularly special for locals, with the city celebrating the 100th National Cherry Festival, which kicks off on July 4 with parades, air shows, races and concerts featuring performers including KC and the Sunshine Band, David Lee Roth, Bow Wow and Soulja Boy. 

The area is equally renowned for its wine country, with the nearby Old Mission Peninsula stretching 16 miles into Lake Michigan and lined with wineries, breweries, beaches and cherry orchards.

Just beyond the city lies the spectacular Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, where towering 400-foot sand dunes overlook the turquoise waters of Lake Michigan.

Residents can spend summers boating, kayaking, paddleboarding and swimming before swapping to skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling when winter arrives.

Andy LaPointe, owner of Traverse Bay Farms, said boating is woven into everyday life.

‘Boating isn’t just a vacation activity here; it’s part of the community,’ he told Realtor.com, adding that mornings regularly begin with sailboats and cruisers leaving Clinch Park Marina before evenings are spent browsing local shops or enjoying ice cream downtown.

The town’s appeal is echoed by locals online, many of whom say the lifestyle justifies the higher cost of living.

In one popular Reddit discussion asking why people continue choosing Traverse City despite rising home prices, many residents pointed to the area’s unique mix of outdoor recreation and city conveniences. 

One commenter wrote that nowhere else offered the same combination of ‘big lakes, sand dunes… outdoors’ while still providing the amenities of a sizeable town, adding that ‘nothing is comparable.’

Another resident described Traverse City as the perfect place to raise a family, praising its low crime, strong schools, beaches, hiking trails, boating, cross-country skiing and access to healthcare.

Others highlighted the thriving arts scene, breweries, wineries and restaurants, while one former Californian admitted they had moved back simply because ‘the bay… really is that magical.’ 

Several residents also argued that while housing has become expensive, buying property in the area has historically proven to be a strong long-term investment, with one homeowner saying their house doubled in value within just a few years.

Not everyone believes Traverse City is perfect.

Some residents acknowledged concerns about limited housing affordability, a relatively small job market and long brutal winters, while others pointed to a lack of diversity compared with larger metropolitan areas.

Even so, demand shows little sign of fading. 

For buyers priced out of Traverse City, Boatmart highlighted several alternative lake towns that still offer waterfront living at lower prices.

Oswego, New York, is among the cheapest, with a median listing price of $175,000, while Page, Arizona, comes in at $276,000 and Plattsburgh, New York, at $259,000.

Other affordable options include Guntersville, Alabama ($322,000), Lake Ozark and Osage Beach, Missouri ($330,000), and Ithaca, New York ($434,000).

At the higher end, South Lake Tahoe, California, has a median listing price of $699,000, while Lake George, New York, sits at $650,000, still below the price of the typical waterfront home in Traverse City.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 23-year-old woman, identified as Cortaisa Tranea Johnson, faces arrest following accusations of stabbing her boyfriend with a kitchen knife.

The incident unfolded around 11:30 a.m. on July 5, prompting an officer from the Gainesville Police Department to visit UF Health Shands Hospital. According to the victim’s statement, he was asleep at Johnson’s Oak Glades Apartments residence when she began an argument, expressing hatred, crying, and kicking him in the head. As he tried to leave, she allegedly armed herself with a kitchen knife, swinging it at him and ultimately causing a stab wound on his arm while he attempted to defend himself.

The officer noted that the victim sustained a small puncture wound on his bicep along with a minor cut on his forearm.

Later that day, the officer located Johnson at her home, where she reportedly confessed to the stabbing after being read her Miranda rights. Johnson stated it was not her intention to inflict harm. She alleged the victim had cornered her in the kitchen, and she acted in self-defense while trying to escape his physical assaults, which included punching, pushing, and slapping her both indoors and outdoors. Johnson directed the officer to the location of the “steak” knife.

The officer reported that Johnson did not have any visible injuries to support her account of the incident.

Johnson has been charged with domestic aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. She has no criminal history, and Judge Meshon Rawls set bail at $10,000.

Dead Bug

Despite its unusual name, the dead bug is one of the most effective exercises for developing deep core stability. The movement trains your core to resist unwanted spinal movement while coordinating your upper and lower body.

How to do it:

  1. Lie on your back with your arms extended toward the ceiling.
  2. Bend your knees to about 90 degrees.
  3. Press your lower back into the floor.
  4. Engage your ab muscles.
  5. Slowly lower your right arm toward the floor behind you.
  6. At the same time, extend your left leg toward the floor.
  7. Move only as far as you can while keeping your lower back stable.
  8. Return to the starting position and repeat on the opposite side.
  9. Complete two to three sets of 8 to 12 reps per side. Rest for 45 to 60 seconds between sets.

Bird Dog

Bird dogs are widely regarded as one of the best functional core exercises because they combine stability, balance, and coordination. The movement strengthens the muscles that support your spine while training your body to move with control.

How to do it:

  1. Get down on your hands and knees.
  2. Position your hands directly under your shoulders.
  3. Place your knees beneath your hips.
  4. Flex your core and keep your back straight.
  5. Extend your right arm forward while extending your left leg behind you.
  6. Hold for one to two seconds when both limbs are parallel to the floor.
  7. Return slowly to the starting position and repeat on the opposite side.
  8. Perform two to three sets of 6 to 10 reps per side, resting for 45 to 60 seconds between sets.

  2. Place your feet flat on the floor about hip-width apart.
  3. Rest your arms comfortably at your sides.
  4. Tighten your core before beginning the movement.
  5. Press through your heels.
  6. Lift your hips until your bod y forms a straight line from shoulders to knees.
  7. Squeeze your glutes at the top of the movement.
  8. Pause for one to two seconds while keeping your body straight.
  9. Lower your hips slowly back to the floor.
  10. Aim for two to three sets of 10 to 15 reps. Rest for 45 to 60 seconds between sets.

Side Plank

“Side planks target your side ab muscles that are often neglected in traditional core workouts,” says Bickerstaff. “They also strengthen your obliques and stabilizing muscles, which help to maintain your balance and protect the spine.”

How to do it:

  1. Lie on your side with your legs extended.
  2. Position your elbow directly beneath your shoulder.
  3. Stack your feet on top of one another.
  4. Brace your core before lifting and raise your hips off the floor.
  5. Form a straight line from your head to your feet.
  6. Keep your shoulders and hips aligned.
  7. Hold the position while breathing steadily through your nose.
  8. Lower with control and repeat on the opposite side.
  9. Complete two to three sets of 15 to 30 seconds per side, resting for 45 to 60 seconds between sets.

Pallof Press

The Pallof press is a highly functional anti-rotation exercise that teaches your body to resist unwanted twisting forces, which is essential for maintaining spinal stability and improving mobility as you age.

How to do it:

  1. Attach a resistance band at chest height.
  2. Stand sideways to the anchor point.
  3. Hold the band with both hands at your chest.
  4. Position your feet about shoulder-width apart.
  5. Engage your core and maintain upright posture.

They have yet to confirm Gueye’s departure as there is still a slim prospect of a new offer tempting him to stay.

Everton have completed the permanent signing of England Under-21 international forward Tyrique George from Chelsea for an undisclosed fee, believed to be £18million plus £6m in bonuses.

The fee is understood to be a £6m reduction in the original fee that was attached by Chelsea to George’s purchase clause on him joining on loan in January.

The attacker has signed a four-year contract with the Toffees until the end of June 2030, having spent the second half of the 2025/26 campaign on loan with the club.

London-born George made 11 appearances for Everton last term, after joining on loan on deadline day of the winter transfer window.

The 20-year-old began at Chelsea, joining the west London club aged eight.

Hull City have parted company with sporting director Jared Dublin.

He took up the role in October 2024, but now leaves with immediate effect.

A club statement added: ‘The club would like to thank Jared for his efforts throughout his time at Hull City, particularly for his contribution to our promotion to the Premier League, and wish him well for the future.’

Celebrating his 32nd birthday this weekend, Ohtani missed Saturday’s game against the San Diego Padres due to a biceps strain. The Dodgers’ powerhouse was withdrawn from Friday’s opener after experiencing tightness in his right biceps, affecting his ability both at bat and on the mound.

The right-hander tossed six innings of three-run ball, but was replaced by Miguel Rojas in the lineup in the seventh inning. Ohtani went 0-for-3 at the plate Friday with a groundout and two fly outs.

While the Dodgers missed Ohtani Saturday, LA secured a second consecutive win over San Diego. The back-to-back World Series champions won the weekend series against the Padres, extending their lead in the NL West to a whopping 14 games.

Kylian Mbappe has publicly condemned a Paraguayan senator, accusing her of “brazen racism” and calling her remarks “despicable” after she launched a scathing social media attack against him. This comes in the wake of Paraguay’s World Cup elimination.

The Real Madrid forward became the hero for France by netting a critical second-half penalty, securing a narrow 1-0 win over Paraguay in a tense match held in Philadelphia on Saturday. However, the game, part of the tournament’s round of 16, became overshadowed by the questionable tactics employed by the underdog team.

Facing off against the tournament’s favorites, Paraguay appeared to use all means necessary to disrupt their opponents. The team engaged in repeated fouls, feigned injuries, and played provocatively to unsettle Les Bleus with aggressive behavior.

The controversy surrounding Paraguay’s exit from the World Cup has escalated as Celeste Amarilla, a senator from the country, unleashed a vitriolic barrage directed at the French captain.

Following Mbappe’s refusal to shake hands with Paraguayan goalkeeper Orlando Gill, Amarilla criticized him harshly. She accused him of being a “brute” and claimed he “hasn’t even learned to write,” while also hurling racist comments at the football star.

‘The only thing many of us demanded of the Albirroja is not to have slapped him open-handed after the match ended. And that’s despite not being a soccer fan.’

Mbappe furiously responded to her astonishing tirade with his own statement on Monday, which read: ‘Madame Celeste Amarilla, You are a despicable woman and unworthy of your position. You do not represent Paraguay, that country which has sweated passion and honor throughout the competition. 

‘Through your recklessness and your brazen racism, the entire world has already forgotten the journey and the historic effort that your players accomplished during this World Cup, making way for an incompetent woman who gives the worst possible image of her country. 

‘I will never allow people like her the freedom to spread their hatred and racism across the world.’

French Football Federation president Philippe Diallo also threw his support behind Mbappe and posted: ‘The racist remarks by Paraguayan Senator Celeste Amarilla targeting Kylian Mbappe are criminal and reprehensible. 

‘They must be prosecuted here as elsewhere. The FFF is filing a report with the prosecutor’s office for the purpose of judicial proceedings.

Paraguay’s dirty tactics included various incidents during the match, from scuffing up the penalty spot, elbowing Dayot Upamecano in the ribs, palming Jules Kounde‘s face, trying to get Michael Olise sent off with outrageous play-acting and somehow ending up without a single booking from Uzbekistani referee Ilgiz Tantashev. 

After the tempestuous match, BBC pundit Joe Hart branded Paraguay’s players ‘an absolute disgrace’, while French newspaper L’Equipe slapped Tantashev with a brutal 1/10 rating for failing to seize control of the occasion. 

In a tense flashpoint of the match, goalkeeper Gill was left furious after Mbappe refused to shake his hands while celebrating in front of the French fans.

Gill reacted furiously, throwing the ball at Mbappe’s back before he walked over to the centre circle, where another melee took place. 

Speaking after the match, Gill fumed: ‘Kylian Mbappe has p***ed me off. I stretched my hand to congratulate him, but he ignored me.

‘This is football, if they’re not used to this, what can we do? Paraguay is like that, it’s a tough team.

‘From the first moment we set out to make ourselves felt on the field, that if the ball gets through, the man doesn’t.’

Speaking about the controversial encounter, Mbappe hailed his side and said they are prepared to win via any method at this World Cup.    

‘We knew what kind of game we were going to have. We showed that we were not just a team that knows how to play offensive football,’ he said.

‘They thought we’d come wearing tuxedos, doing great plays, one-twos and whatnot. It’s their way of playing.’

JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. (WKRG) – A cadaver has been discovered during the active search for a missing teenager, who vanished on Independence Day.

Over the weekend, Mississippi officials urged locals to assist in finding 18-year-old Nolan Xavier Wells. The teenager was last spotted on Horn Island, a remote barrier island located in the Gulf of Mexico, just off the coast of Mississippi.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were searching Horn Island with help from the Department of Marine Resources, the Gulf Islands National Seashore, and the U.S. Coast Guard.

Monday morning, a body was found near where Wells had gone missing on the northwest end of Horn Island, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed. It’s believed the body washed ashore.

While officials are awaiting DNA results, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to Nexstar’s WKRG that the body matches the description of Wells.

An autopsy will be conducted, according to authorities. No additional details were immediately available.

Survivor Shawna Scott Speaks Out After Surviving Frances Zaayer’s Deadly Attack That Killed Husband

Months of rising tensions culminated in a shocking act of violence when Frances Zaayer entered the residence of her neighbor, Shawna Scott, and shot her point-blank in the face.

Following the attack on Shawna, Zaayer proceeded to the back of the house where she fatally shot Shawna’s husband, David Scott, a respected deputy jailer in Montgomery County, on the porch. This harrowing event is detailed in Netflix’s series, Worst Neighbor Ever.

Recalling the traumatic experience in the docuseries, Shawna described, “I remember this awful bang and I was down. I can recall being able to look out the sliding glass door and see Dave laying there and I can remember hollering for somebody to help him.”

Although the situation ended tragically with a murder conviction for Frances, she had once been a welcomed member of Shawna’s family circle, even staying briefly at their home while she prepared to move into her own property across the street.

So, how did this relationship unravel into a fatal confrontation? Here’s a comprehensive look at the events leading to the brutal murder of David Scott:

How Did Frances Zaayer and Shawna Scott Know Each Other?

For years, Shawna and her husband Dave had an enviable set up in the small town of Mount Sterling, Kentucky, where they lived in a home surrounded by properties owned by Shawna’s family. 

It became a family compound of sorts.

“It was good,” Shawna remembered in the docuseries. “I mean we was all close and spent time together and you know, I had a pool in my yard, so we had a lot of cookouts and dinners.” 

It was that sense of community that first drew Frances back to the area. Frances was considered an honorary part of the family after befriending Shawna’s older cousin as a teenager and even living with Shawna’s grandmother at one time.

“Frances became part of our family when she was 15, 16 years old,” Shawna’s aunt Wanda Collingsworth recalled in Worst Neighbor Ever. “Frances didn’t really have a good home situation. She told us her mom wasn’t good to her, but I wasn’t ever sure. She enjoyed being with my family.”

After going through a divorce, Frances was eager to return to the place where she had always been accepted, and—much like before—Shawna’s family was more than happy to welcome her back.

“We all loved her,” Wanda said. “She was funny. She was fun to be with. I don’t know what happened to her.”

Tensions Between Frances Zaayer and Shawna Scott Begin

Frances bought the property right across the street from Shawna and had plans to put her double wide trailer there. However, she first had to knock down the existing house, according to Worst Neighbor Ever.

While she waited for the work to be done, Shawna offered her a place to stay.

“I could get along with pretty much anybody and I thought I’m gonna help her,” Shawna remembered. “My main goal was to just be there and treat her like family and that’s what I intended on doing.” 

It didn’t take long, however, for tensions to begin to brew as Shawna’s family said Frances often wanted things her way, even telling Shawna how to care for her own home.

The final straw came in January 2017 when Frances allegedly tried to reprimand Shawna’s grandson and Shawna asked her to move out. 

Shawna Scott Arrested For Assault

The heated relationship only grew after Frances moved into her own property three months later. Frances allegedly built her driveway on a portion of Shawna’s father’s property. Then Frances claimed Shawna—who was on disability and unable to work—was working at a friend’s tanning bed studio, per the documentary.

Shawna said she was just there visiting, but didn’t appreciate Frances trying to cause legal trouble and the two women got into a physical fight.

“I did ask her why she was doing it, and she just laughed and she said, ‘Because I can,’” Shawna recalled in the documentary. “And then we got into a fight. It wasn’t just pulling hair, slapping, it was a fight.” 

Dave came home from work and pulled Shawna off of Frances, but Shawna was arrested and charged with assault. While they waited for the case to play out in court, Frances was enraged that Shawna—who was prevented from contacting Frances due to a restraining order—was out of jail. 

“Frances had this idea in her head that Dave working at the jail made it impossible for my mom to face charges,” Shawna’s daughter Haley Boyd said, “which is absolutely absurd.”

For the next year, Frances made frequent calls to 911, complaining about everything from a missing bird feeder to  her neighbors setting off fireworks near her house, according to the documentary.

“It doesn’t matter what we did,” Shawna explained. “She would call the cops on us.”

According to Shawna, Frances also allegedly began to mow her lawn naked and was topless whenever her grandchildren were visiting. Frances also allegedly followed Shawna around town stalking her.

“I was called to Washington Avenue almost daily. I mean, it was over and over, just all the time,” former Montgomery County Deputy Duane Kidd recalled in the docuseries. “We have to respond to every call, and that’s that’s hard in this small community, because most of the time we only had two deputies on duty at one time.”

What Happened to Shawna Scott and David Scott?

Throughout it all, David often tried to be the peacemaker, encouraging Shawna not to engage and trying to ignore the behavior.

“Dave was one of the nicest people I’ve ever met,” his former boss Steven Alley told WKYT. “Everyone loved him.”

Concerned that Frances may not make a sympathetic witness on the state, Prosecuting Attorney Andrew Reinhardt explained in the docuseries that he decided to offer Shawna a plea deal rather than go to trial. As part of the deal, Shawna was expected to receive anger management and probation for a year.

Frances was furious.

“This was her entire life,” Reinhardt recalled, “prosecuting this case and getting Shawna Scott in jail.” 

Before the plea could play out in court, however, Frances called 911 one final time. 

“I can’t get this court here to understand how dangerous this idiot is,” she told the 911 dispatcher in a call replayed on Worst Neighbor Ever. “I can’t take any more of this.” 

Then, armed with a gun, she walked into Shawna’s front door, shot her in the face, then went to the back door, where David was outside hanging security cameras and shot him too, according to the docuseries and Lex 18. While Shawna was rushed to the hospital, David didn’t survive his injuries.

Frances was taken into custody after a standoff with police.

Where is Frances Zaayer Now?

As part of a plea deal, Frances pled guilty to murder, second-degree assault and wanton endangerment in 2022, according to jail records. She was sentenced to 35 years in prison and won’t be eligible for parole until 2038.

The 59-year-old is currently serving out her sentence in the Kentucky Correctional Institution For Women.

Where is Shawna Scott Today?

Since the shooting, Shawna said she has undergone 16 facial surgeries to try to repair the injuries to her face. 

She misses Dave every day.

“Dave liked everybody,” she told Worst Neighbor Ever. “He was a good person. He was as good friend and he just had a smile that could just light up a room and he didn’t deserve this.”
