In a shocking revelation, a man allegedly orchestrated a complex web of deceit by pretending to be an NFL player, reportedly swindling over $1.3 million from more than 24 women. His fabrications extended to claiming personal ties with numerous professional athletes.

Details from the Department of Justice revealed the arrest of Daejon Labrayae Love, 35, and his purported accomplice, 18-year-old Taylor Jamie Chan. Their apprehension occurred earlier this week at Boise, Idaho’s airport, following the former’s impersonation of a San Francisco 49ers team member.

A criminal complaint, accessed by the Daily Mail, uncovers more intricate aspects of this scheme, including Love’s alleged fabrication of a family connection to Green Bay Packers’ quarterback Jordan Love, deceiving at least one of his victims.

He further spun tales of imaginary friendships with NFL stars like Tyreek Hill, Antonio Brown, and John Brown, as part of his strategy to earn the trust of unsuspecting women and coax them into giving him money.

According to the legal documents, Daejon initially met one victim on Tinder in March 2025. After a date, he inquired about her finances and lured her into making an ‘investment,’ eventually convincing her to hand over $17,200.

‘[The woman] did not receive any confirmation of the investments,’ the complaint said. ‘When [the woman] asked Love about the investments, Love stopped communicating with her.’

The court filing claims that he pretended to exercise with various NFL players – including Hill and Brown – and had received ‘invitations to try out with NFL teams’ before eventually deciding on the 49ers. 

The federal complaint – which was filed in Portland, Oregon – reveals the pair have been charged with wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

The criminal complaint shows that, beginning in February 2022, Love and Chan allegedly created fake investment opportunities to defraud women in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and California.

It’s alleged that Love initiated contact with most of the women through online dating apps while Chan would pose as Love’s financial adviser to gain their victims’ trust and talk victims through prospective investments.

Love allegedly also created fake bank and investment accounts and balances, which he would flaunt to victims in an effort to legitimize the alleged scheme.

The pair allegedly also exchanged investment-related messages, in which Chan played the role of Love’s investment advisor. Love allegedly would screenshot Chan’s messages and send them to victims to convince them to part with their money. 

The pair also hosted three-way FaceTime calls in which they displayed falsified gains to victims, according to the criminal complaint.

As well as sending money they thought was being invested, victims also loaned Love large amounts. If they didn’t have money to invest, Love allegedly instructed victims to take out personal loans with the promise they would quickly get repaid.

Once they had no more money to invest, or if they asked too many questions, Love allegedly blocked his victims but kept their money. He has used several names including Jon Love, Daejon Love, Avril Lyto Love, and Jordan Love to perpetuate the scheme, according to the criminal complaint.

Of the victims that have so far been identified and interviewed, none have received any returns.

Financial records show Love and Chan received around $1.3m from their victims, according to the criminal complaint. There have been 26 identified. The FBI, however, believes there are far more.

The FBI discovered that, on August 24, Chan was flying from California to meet up with Love in Boise. Love was in Idaho allegedly to meet new victims and officers swooped to apprehend both of them at an airport. 

Denmark’s left-leaning prime minister, Mette Frederiksen, has stirred significant discussion across Europe with her candid remarks concerning the challenges posed by radical Islam within migrant communities across the continent, including her own nation.

Frederiksen’s statements followed recent upheaval in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta, where she openly critiqued the handling of the situation by Spain’s leftist prime minister, Pedro Sánchez, during a specially convened session in Denmark’s Parliament.

Addressing a question from a member of Denmark’s far-left bloc about the country’s perceived lack of “solidarity” with Spain in standing firm against “anti-democratic forces” impacting Europe, Frederiksen noted, “While Russia remains a significant adversary, a new internal threat is emerging from within, driven by foreigners who have arrived in Europe,” according to translations of her remarks.

Frederiksen clarified that her comments did not target Denmark’s integrated immigrant community but instead referred to “Hamas supporters and those perpetrating terror against Europe.” She warned of individuals who reject the continent’s core values, sympathizing with some of the world’s darkest ideologies, thus posing a dual threat from both external and internal fronts. The issue, she explained, is not rooted in any discord between Denmark and Spain, but rather stems from groups within the Islamic faith who oppose the open and free society Europe represents.

Sweden-based foreign policy expert and author Daniel Schatz told News Media, “What is striking is not that a conservative politician is talking about illegal immigration, failed integration and Islamist extremism, it is that one of Europe’s leading center-left prime ministers is saying it in such blunt terms. That tells you how far the European immigration debate has shifted.”

Frederiksen came to power in Denmark’s 2019 elections on what Reuters called a “platform of radical reforms to reach climate targets, lowering the pension age for manual workers – and stricter migration policies.” Denmark already had some of the strongest asylum laws in Europe before 2019, including a 2018 law targeting “parallel societies.” That law allowed the government to “demolish or sell off social housing areas where more than half of residents are from a ‘non-Western’ background,” if certain criteria were met, and refugees in those areas are not eligible for family reunion.

In 2021, Frederiksen introduced a new deportation law allowing for refugees to be returned to their country of origin, if Denmark deemed it safe, even if Denmark had no diplomatic relations with that country, and even as the European Commission deemed Danish legislation on transferring asylum seekers to third countries while their claims were processed “incompatible with EU law.”

Since June, Frederiksen has been a leading voice in opposition to the immigration policies of Spain’s Pedro Sánchez, telling Parliament, “It is no secret that I and the Spanish Prime Minister deeply disagree on immigration policy… I and we will not accept that Danish society has to pay the price for decisions in Spain that we fundamentally disagree with.”

On Aug. 1, Frederiksen joined conservative Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and 20 other EU government leaders in a letter saying the EU “cannot allow mass crossings, the instrumentalization of migration or other hybrid threats to create the perception that illegal entry into the European Union is possible.”

The two, currently the only female heads of government in the EU, followed that letter with an Aug. 10 joint statement saying they “are both proud of Europe’s Christian cultural heritage and we want to protect it. We expect that those who arrive in our countries and choose to make Europe their home respect our values and do not try to impose ways of life that we do not share. We believe that this is the right path to protect Europe and our common values. And we believe that millions of Europeans share this conviction.”

Emma Schubart of the Henry Jackson Society told News Media, “Frederiksen is right to name the ‘enemy within’. Europe has spent years pretending that uncontrolled migration and failed integration come without consequences. They do not… Parallel societies have taken root, Islamist extremism has been allowed to fester and support for groups such as Hamas is no longer confined to the margins. Denmark understands the cost.”

Daniel Schatz said Frederiksen “is essentially arguing that Europe faces threats from two directions: Russia from outside and anti-democratic extremism from within. For a center-left European leader, that is remarkably strong language.” He noted Frederiksen’s “political formula has been straightforward: protect Denmark’s generous system of public benefits and social services, control the border and deny the populist right a monopoly on immigration. For an American audience, that is probably the most important thing to understand about the Danish model.”

Frederiksen’s position is important, he said, because she did not move politically “because Danish voters suddenly became concerned about immigration. She moved because she realized years ago that many of them already were.” He added, “The important distinction is that this is not an argument that immigrants are inherently criminal. It is an argument that a democratic society must be willing to confront failed integration when it occurs.”

Schubart added, “Other leaders now need to show the same courage, secure their borders, deport those with no right to remain and make clear that integration into our laws and values is not optional.”

The bond between a team and its draft picks often runs deep, sparking a natural desire to see them succeed. This is a common sentiment across the NFL landscape, where early draft picks are watched closely.

In the high-stakes world of the NFL Draft, players selected in the top rounds aren’t given preferential treatment, but they do receive a noteworthy level of focus. These athletes are initially given the benefit of the doubt; after all, it’s a bad reflection on all parties when a high draft choice fails to perform at the expected level.

However, this isn’t to say that first-rounders are handed a free pass. While they may receive more opportunities than those picked in later rounds or undrafted players, they must still prove their worth.

This dynamic was vividly on display with the New York Giants during the offseason. They opted for another chance to assess two of their former first-round picks in what felt like a final evaluation. Cornerback Deonte Banks, the 2023 first-rounder selected 24th overall, was on the verge of completing his rookie contract. Meanwhile, offensive lineman Evan Neal, a top 10 pick from 2022, was offered a one-year deal at a veteran minimum salary of $1.2 million after finishing his initial deal.

Once promising prospects, both Banks and Neal found themselves clinging to their professional football dreams with the Giants, despite earlier setbacks. General Manager Joe Schoen’s drafts had initially heralded them as cornerstones, yet the new trajectory of their careers seemed uncertain. New head coach John Harbaugh, influenced by talent assessments made during his tenure with the Ravens, provided them opportunities without promises, allowing them to prove their doubters wrong.

These were low-risk door openings. Come in, prove you are a better player than what you have shown the past few years and perhaps you get to stick around. Failure to do so meant the end of their Giants careers.

Heading into Friday night’s final preseason game — the annual summer action with the Jets — one of these former first-round picks got it right and the other was expected to be among the players cut as the teams around the league get down to the 53-player limit by Sunday. Banks not only carved out a spot on the roster, but he is in the running for a starting role on defense. Neal faced longer odds and, although he showed progress at his new position — moving from right tackle to right guard — the numbers are not likely to tumble his way, as far as being included in the nine offensive linemen expected to make the final cut. 

There is no doubt the front office executives who graded Banks and Neal so highly and decided they were worth first-round picks were pulling for both of them to turn things around. Pulling for them, and giving them an unfair advantage, are entirely separate scenarios, though. 

“So, when we really get to training camp, and obviously Harbs has preached meritocracy, right?” assistant general manager Brandon Brown said this past week. “So, what has got you here is not necessarily going to keep you here, and you’ve got to have daily deposits. And it’s really taking to the instruction and then highlighting the execution and knowing which guys have done it and then continuing to raise the floor in the room or earn a spot in the room. 

“And just being objective, which guys are going to have the best opportunity to make an impact for us on game day, whether it’s active, whether it’s being on practice squad, and knowing that this is going to be the guy that we’re going to go to battle with at the start of the season.” 

Banks earned it as one of the most consistent cornerbacks throughout camp. That turned out to be quite a revelation, given Banks’ past issues with focus and effort. The physical skill set is there but Banks too often was on the scene to make a play and, for one reason or another, did not make it. The new defensive system installed by coordinator Dennard Wilson is more aggressive, in terms of press man coverage, and that suits Banks. 

Neal started 13 games at right tackle as a rookie and the best that can be said about his performance was that it was uneven. He started only 14 games, total, the past two seasons, compromised by injuries and poor play. He did not play a single snap in 2025, resigned to healthy scratch status before going on injured reserve with a hamstring issue in mid-November. His great size and strength did not translate to any NFL success. 

Neal stayed healthy this summer but mostly worked with the third-team offensive line. For once, the Giants assembled enough depth along the line to feel good about their backups. Veteran Aaron Stinnie outplayed Neal and is expected to claim a backup guard spot. Neal will not. Maybe he is signed to the practice squad. Being a high pick guarantees you a shot and little else.

In a tragic incident over the weekend, a mother of three lost her life in a devastating car crash caused by a couple in a heated altercation. Officials confirmed the heartbreaking event that led to her untimely demise.

Janelle Marie Swenson, aged 42, died instantly following the crash, according to a report by the Minnesota Star Tribune. In the aftermath, charges have been brought against Jack Leroy Daniel Drumbeater, 41, who faces accusations of manslaughter and third-degree murder. His ex-partner, Kerri Ellen Hart, 38, allegedly behind the wheel of the truck during the incident, has been charged with criminal vehicular homicide.

Janelle’s obituary poignantly states: “She was unfairly taken away from us far too young and far too soon due to this senseless tragedy, yet the positive legacy Janelle imprinted on her loved ones will stay with us forever.”

Eyewitness accounts reveal that Drumbeater had entered a gas station store while Hart assumed control of the vehicle, accelerating rapidly from the location, as detailed in the Star Tribune.

In her haste, Hart struck Drumbeater, who managed to latch onto the truck’s flatbed. Demonstrating resilience, he broke the rear window with his fist and climbed into the cab.

Hart said that she was punched in the head and doesn’t remember the crash, which happened as soon as Drumbeater gained access to the cab, according to the report. 

One witness said about two and a half blocks from the gas station, the truck crashed into Swenson’s car. The impact trapped her in the vehicle, preventing first responders from potentially saving her life. 

Hart claimed that she had broken up with Drumbeater shortly before the crash. She told police that he showed up at her friend’s place and asked to go for a ride before warning her not to leave.

Drumbeater reportedly hit her and had weapons in the truck, including an axe, bat and club. She said he warned her not to ‘try anything funny.’ 

Camera recordings and witnesses said Hart was driving when the crash happened but Drumbeater insisted he was behind the wheel when talking to the police.

Police officers found 1.4 grams of methamphetamine and paraphernalia inside the truck. Drumbeater admitted to smoking meth that morning. Hart said she smoked a few days before but was trying to stay sober.

The truck that Drumbeater and Hart killed Swenson with was not even their own. The actual owner of the truck arrived at the scene of the murder to report that his truck was stolen.

On top of the charges relating to the crash, Drumbeater faces drug possession and motor vehicle charges. He reportedly got angry after officers told him that Hart would be charged in the killing of Swenson too.

During the crash chaos, Hart also suffered life-threatening injuries and was transferred to the neuro-care unit at Essentia Hospital in Duluth before being booked into jail a few days later, the Star Tribune reports.

Swenson’s obituary thanked first responders and the strangers who helped.

The tribute also describes her as an outdoorswoman with a passion for fishing, hunting, motorcycles and horse riding.

‘She had a tenacious personality, never letting a horse win after being bucked off. Janelle always got back on… She was a dedicated hunter and excellent shot, bagging many bucks except “da 30-point buck,”‘ it reads.

She and her three children raised grand champion rabbits that they entered at the Itasca County Fair in Minnesota. She was often in the garden and was described as compassionate and down-to-earth.

Swenson is survived by her husband Josh Swenson and children Jayden, JD and Josie. She recently became a grandmother.

The Daily Mail contacted the family for comment. Swenson’s funeral is scheduled for August 29.

CHICAGO (WLS) — In a growing wave of discontent, residents of Bridgeport are rallying against a proposed Amtrak rail yard set to be situated near the iconic Chicago White Sox stadium, Rate Field. Locals fear this development will negatively impact property values and alter the cherished fabric of their neighborhood.

Among the concerned voices is Cathy Lange, who lives next to the site where the rail yard is planned. Situated near existing train tracks, Lange worries deeply about the ramifications this project might have on her community.

“Absolutely. The property value without a doubt is going to plummet. You’re going to lose families that have been raised for generations,” expressed Lange, underscoring the potential upheaval that such a development could trigger.

The opposition has gained significant traction recently, with over 1,000 locals adding their names to petitions opposing the rail yard in just a few days. Many community members contend that the development would lead to environmental harm and intensify industrialization in an area known for its residential charm.

“They have big plans to turn Bridgeport into an industrial corridor. No place anybody would want to live. It’s ridiculous,” stated Maria Lagiglio, another longtime Bridgeport resident, voicing a common sentiment among those uneasy about the proposed changes.

Amtrak has emphasized the project’s economic benefits, citing jobs and broader economic impact. In a statement, the company said, “The modern, purpose-built facility on an existing rail yard owned by Union Pacific Railroad will allow for more efficient servicing of railcars, reduce service disruptions and turnaround time.”

Alderman Nicole Lee of the 11th Ward said she believes the facility should be located in an existing industrial area and pledged to continue opposing the proposal.

“My intention is to stop this. We’re doing everything we can to stop this. I do not believe this is a done deal,” Lee said.

Under the proposal, the existing rail yard in the South Loop would be relocated to Bridgeport. The South Loop site is near an area where some have speculated a new White Sox stadium could be built.

Residents said they intend to continue fighting the proposal.

“This deal is not going to happen. We are not accepting this deal,” Bridgeport resident Ann Caruso said.

Earlier this week, Amtrak postponed a public hearing on the proposed rail yard at Lee’s request. The meeting has not been rescheduled.
