Hollywood actress Monet Mazur frightened off three masked intruders who allegedly tried to break into her Hollywood Hills home.

Mazur, 50, was at the property with her dog on Saturday night when at least three people dressed in black and wearing ski masks approached at around 11:30 p.m., the California Post reported.

The home, which realty websites estimate is worth more than $1.5 million, is protected by security cameras. Mazur saw the suspected burglars approaching through the live camera feed.

She confronted the group, prompting them to scatter after they realized the house was occupied. It remains unclear exactly how Mazur challenged the would-be intruders.

The actress, who is best known for playing Laura Fine-Baker on the television series All American, then called the Los Angeles Police Department. Officers were sent to the Hollywood Hills residence.

The suspects had fled by the time police arrived. An LAPD helicopter searched the surrounding area but failed to locate anyone, and no arrests had been reported as of Sunday evening.

Footage recorded by RMG News showed Mazur outside the property, speaking on the phone while wearing what appeared to be pajamas. LAPD officers could also be seen at the home.

A canister of pepper spray was visible on the doormat near the front door in the video.

Mazur began acting in the 1990s and reached the height of her career in the 2000s, appearing in films including 40 Days and 40 Nights, Blow, Torque, Just Married and The House Bunny.

Her television credits also include Castle, CSI: Miami and NCIS: Los Angeles. She later worked as a producer on the series Snatch.

According to realty websites, Mazur’s Hollywood Hills property spans 2,125 square feet and includes two bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms and a two-car garage. The home sits on a 4,250-square-foot lot overlooking the Los Angeles skyline.

The attempted break-in comes as Los Angeles has seen a series of burglaries targeting celebrity homes.

In March, the Bel Air home of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Rachel Zoe was burglarized while she was out of town.

Zoe’s fellow Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast members Kathy Hilton and Sutton Stracke were also victims of burglaries in November 2025, while they were attending BravoCon in Las Vegas.

Singer Lionel Richie was reportedly inside his home in August last year when an intruder broke in.

Richie’s security alarm was triggered during the incident, causing the suspect to flee before stealing any valuables.

In late June 2025, thieves broke into actor Brad Pitt’s residence in Los Angeles’ Los Feliz neighborhood while the star was out of the country.

Authorities believe the burglars struck while Pitt was traveling in Japan promoting his racing drama F1.

Teddi Mellencamp, former star of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, said last year that her home was the subject of an attempted break-in.

Mellencamp revealed that thieves were scared off after a security alarm, installed by her estranged husband Edwin Arroyave’s security company, was triggered.

She later shared unsettling security footage showing several men climbing over a fence and moving toward the side of her house before suddenly sprinting away when the alarm began blaring.

Also in 2025, actress Nicole Kidman and her ex Keith Urban were caught up in the trend of celebrity break-ins.

Their Beverly Hills mansion, purchased in 2008 for $4.7 million, was reportedly targeted while the couple was out of town.

According to reports, an intruder smashed a window to gain entry, but a staff member who was on the property at the time managed to scare the suspect away before anything could be taken.

Authorities in central New York are taking another look at disturbing allegations that seven Cornell University fraternity members drugged and sexually assaulted a former student.

Tompkins County District Attorney Matthew Van Houten told ABC News that prosecutors are weighing potential criminal charges after details outlined in a civil lawsuit drew widespread attention online.

The lawsuit, filed by a woman identified as Jane Doe, alleges that she was pressured to take drugs before being assaulted and raped by several men at Cornell’s Chi Phi fraternity house in 2024. The defendants named in the complaint are Matthew Ingalls, Johnathan Newell, Winston Lee, Gillio Lopes, Diego Sarabia, Scott Norris and Scott Kretzschmar.

According to the complaint, Newell later encouraged other fraternity members to participate, allegedly sending a Snapchat message referencing “free p—y” to a group called “Chi Phi Actives.” A screenshot of the alleged message was included with the lawsuit.

Van Houten said the account presented in the civil filing differs substantially from the statement the woman gave investigators after the alleged assault.

“It’s our intention to present the case to the Tompkins County grand jury with Jane Doe’s cooperation,” Van Houten told ABC News.

Prosecutors, he said, want to determine whether new evidence has emerged since November 2024 that could alter their earlier evaluation and support a finding of criminal conduct by the grand jury.

Thomas P. Giuffra, Jane Doe’s attorney, challenged the district attorney’s characterization of her statement. He also said investigators failed to conduct a follow-up interview with her, particularly through someone trained to work with survivors of sexual abuse.

“In my experience, speaking with an abuse survivor requires delicacy, understanding and specialized training. An average University Police officer would not have these skills. It would be the role of a specially trained detective or district attorney. However, Ms. Doe was never contacted by anybody with those skills,” Giuffra told the outlet.

Van Houten did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.

Five men arrested Sunday near a major U.S. bomber base in the United Kingdom may have been preparing a “complex” and coordinated attack with potentially global consequences for American military installations, according to a former U.S. intelligence official.

As counterterrorism officers investigated the arrests near RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, a former Pentagon official said President Donald Trump would ultimately determine the response if investigators establish that “the trail leads to Tehran.”

The suspects were first detained on suspicion of violating Britain’s Explosives Act and were later arrested on terrorism charges linked to the airfield. RAF Fairford is a key U.S. Air Force facility and the main European base for American strategic bombers.

Trump said Sunday that U.S. authorities had been tracking the suspects before their arrests.

“We had them under investigation,” Trump told reporters in Chicago. “They were looking to do big damage to our fort.”

“It may have been Scotland Yard. I don’t know. We worked with a lot of them. We had them under view for a long time, and we got them,” Trump said.

According to Sky News, counterterrorism investigators are examining whether Iran could be connected to the suspected bomb plot.

Morgan Murphy, a former Trump White House official, told News Media that British authorities are directing the investigation in coordination with U.S. law enforcement and intelligence agencies.

“Every phone, bank record and rental receipt will be run through British and American intelligence, and if the trail leads to Tehran, it will be found,” Murphy said.

“But as American airmen and bombers seem to have been the target, Air Force investigators on the base, the FBI in London, and American intelligence will likely all work the case.”

“If conclusive evidence proves Iran is behind an attempted attack on U.S. forces, the American President will ultimately decide how Tehran pays,” Murphy added.

Andrew Badger, a former Defense Intelligence Agency official, told News Media that the number of suspects and vehicles involved suggested the possibility of a sophisticated operation.

“We are going to see elevated security protocols across Europe, across the U.K., and across the entire world for any U.S. installation,” he said.

“This is a very significant threat, and again, seeing that we had five individuals involved and three different reported vans at the scene, this could have been a very complex, highly orchestrated operation,” Badger said.

“This isn’t just some type of amateur lone wolf operation,” he said, emphasizing Fairford’s strategic role. “Fairford is also where the U.S. houses its strategic bombers for Europe as well as the rest of the world.”

Badger said a possible attack could have created risks well beyond the airfield itself, warning that it “could have had significant security implications” and might have damaged the surrounding area.

“They could have tried to use a VBIED or a vehicle-borne explosive device where the first van could have gone off at the front gate, and then the other vans would have gone in and tried to go for the strategic bombers,” Badger said.

British authorities have not publicly identified who they believe was behind the suspected plot or announced a motive, but RAF Fairford had taken on greater strategic importance during the war with Iran.

The U.K. government previously authorized U.S. forces to use the Royal Air Force bases Fairford and Diego Garcia for limited defensive operations, including destroying Iranian missiles and launchers at their source.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) later warned that any base used to attack Iranian territory would be considered a legitimate target.

“Any base used to launch attacks on Iranian territory is a legitimate target for our forces,” the IRGC said, according to reports.

“Tehran warned London in July to keep American bombers off Fairford, and if this plot traces back to Iran, the answer must be more bombers, not fewer,” Morgan said.

A local councilor told Reuters there had been a recent security alert at Fairford and surveillance had been stepped up.

“So there was a specific threat about six weeks ago from the Iranians on this base. At the time, there was increased surveillance around the area,” he told the outlet.

Badger, however, cautioned against assuming Iran was responsible while pointing to other potential threats.

“This could be Iran trying to gain strategic leverage in negotiations, but there are other actors as well,” Badger added.

“But there’s Russia, who’s been launching a campaign of gray zone or hybrid warfare attacks across Europe, as well as Islamic extremists, which are still a significant threat here in the U.K.”

“Was this some type of retaliation by Iran to perhaps try to gain leverage or to try to inflict a cost for the U.S. withdrawing from these negotiations? Again, we don’t know for sure, but it is a possibility,” Badger said.

Badger also pointed to RAF Welford, a major U.S. ammunition storage facility that primarily supports operations at RAF Fairford.

“RAF Welford is actually the second-largest weapons and ammunition depot in all of Europe,” Badger said, noting that the facility where the U.S. stores ammunition “could have been a target as well.”

“Other bases across Europe, including European and U.S. partners, have already been on a heightened state of alert,” Badger continued.

“But of course, after this attack, I think they’re going to be in an even more heightened state. You’re going to have more frequent security patrols.”

“There are reports that RAF Fairford was put onto what’s called the Delta alert, which is the highest state of security alert within the military base system,” Badger said.

“So this is basically that ‘an imminent terrorist attack is inbound,'” he concluded.

Madonna stunned fans with a high-profile return to the MTV Video Music Awards stage on Sunday, 23 years after her steamy kiss with Britney Spears became one of pop culture’s most memorable moments.

The 68-year-old Queen of Pop, who led this year’s nominations with 11 nods, showcased her toned figure in a Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello look. However, viewers were quick to criticize what they described as an “utterly unfocused” performance.

Madonna took to the stage in a black satin trench coat, red leotard and knee-high boots. She performed her hit “Bring Your Love” alongside 27-year-old collaborator Sabrina Carpenter.

The pop icon also appeared draped in latex during a steamy visual sequence featuring the declaration: “It’s mother!”

She opened the performance seated atop a piano played by Carpenter, legs spread wide, before confidently belting out the anthem.

Madonna later removed the trench coat to reveal her leotard, then was carried across the stage onto a platform as a choir joined in for “Bring Your Love.”

She writhed and moved through the crowd before making way for Charli XCX’s entrance.

Madonna then joined Charli for a high-octane performance of “Danceteria.” However, viewers watching at home were already frustrated after the ceremony was delayed by an overrun football game.

The raunchy segment included a surprise appearance from scantily clad Sombr beside a toilet cubicle, before a muscular dancer lifted Madonna into the air.

Despite the spectacle, fans flooded social media with accusations that Madonna was lip-syncing. Others expressed concern after she appeared to be struggling for breath onstage.

One fan wrote, “MTV & CBS really fumbled Madonna tonight. The delay was bad enough, but those HORRIBLE camera angles during her performance? Come on. She deserved so much better.”

Another viewer posted, “I wish I could’ve seen Madonna in her prime! Mama is TIRED and out of breath on this MTV #VMAs stage. And yes, I know she’s almost 70, so I’m not expecting 1985 Madonna, but whew!

“I’ll still give her credit where it’s due: she released one of the best albums of the year.”

Others were less complimentary, with one person writing, “Ima say something controversial. Madonna this is boring.”

Another added, “madonna performance… wow… utterly unfocused and just a got damn MESS!!!!!!!”

Madonna and Carpenter later won best collaboration, beating out Clipse, Kendrick Lamar, Pusha T and Malice for Chains & Whips as well as Shakira and Burna Boy for Dai Dai, Teyana Taylor and Lucky Daye’s Hard Part, PinkPantheress and Zara Larsson’s Stateside and French Montana and Max B’s Ever Since U Left Me.   

Madonna and Swift, 36, will be vying against each other for the evening’s top honor, video of the year, with Swift up for The Fate of Ophelia and Madonna for Confessions II (The Film).

During 2003’s MTV VMAs, Madonna had a prolonged kiss with Spears during their opening performance for the ceremony.

Spears opened the show by singing Madonna’s Like a Virgin, emerging out of a wedding cake while dressed as a bride, as Madonna did in her 1984 VMAs performance.

Soon after that, Aguilera joined Spears onstage for the song before Madonna appeared and launched into her single Hollywood. During the performance, Madonna leaned over and kissed Spears, before locking lips with Aguilera

During the broadcast only the image of Spears and Madonna was aired, followed by a reaction shot of Spears’ former flame Justin Timberlake.

The sapphic moment has gone on to be one of the most memorable in the history of the MTV Video Music Awards.

After their public make out session, Spears and Madonna went on to collaborate on the hit single Me Against The Music.

Madonna’s VMAs coup comes after she earned a burst of critical acclaim and fan adoration for her latest album Confessions II, which was released July 3 and serves as a sequel to her 2005 smash hit Confessions on a Dance Floor.

Madonna’s Confessions II (The Film) is up for dance video of the year, against such competition as  Aperture by Harry Styles, Runway by Lady Gaga and Doechii and New Religion by Bebe Rexha and Faithless.

The other nominees in that category are Dance… by Slayyyter, Stateside by PinkPantheress and Zara Larsson and Nobody’s Girl by Tate McRae.

A paddle-boarder off California’s Santa Cruz coast was knocked into the water during a terrifying encounter with a sea lion, according to reports.

Heather Gray said the animal attacked around 8 a.m. as she traveled between Capitola Wharf and Privates Beach near Pleasure Point.

“I was like, ‘What, what’s happening?’ It was like a horror movie,” Gray told KNTV.

The sea lion bit Gray on her arm, hand and feet, forcing her to fight back as she tried to escape.

Footage recorded by Surfline captured the moment the animal struck and sent Gray plunging from her paddleboard.

“The thing that was the most bizarre was that it grabbed my hair,” she said.

Gray managed to climb back onto her board and paddled toward shore, but the sea lion continued following her, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

“We’re so used to seeing them get really comfortable with us, and I knew this wasn’t really normal,” Gray told KNTV.

A friend later drove Gray to an urgent-care facility, where she was treated and received tetanus and rabies shots because of the bites.

Gray said she immediately wondered whether the animal was among the sea lions recently sickened in the region. “I know that there’s a lot of sea lions that are sick right now, so my first thought was, ‘Oh my gosh, this was one of these sick sea lions,’” she told the station.

The Marine Mammal Center said sea lions and fur seals in the Monterey Bay area have been affected this year by domoic acid poisoning. Researchers have not determined why the number of affected animals has increased.

The center warned that the toxin can cause marine mammals to behave unpredictably.

“Domoic acid poisoning is caused by harmful algal blooms,” the center said. “The neurotoxin accumulates in small fish that are eaten by marine mammals including sea lions.”

Another sea lion attack involving a surfer near Santa Cruz was reported Tuesday.

The Marine Mammal Center is advising people to remain at least 150 feet from animals that could be suffering from domoic acid poisoning.

Despite the frightening encounter, Gray said she does not plan to give up paddle-boarding.

“I’m not scared to go back out there, but I kind of want some of this domoic acid and red tide stuff to clear,” she told KNTV.

In San Diego, authorities were still searching Sunday for a convicted child sex offender who disappeared after his GPS ankle monitor issued a tampering alert at a worksite. Supervisors arrived shortly afterward but found the man and the device missing.

Merle Wakefield, 69, was working in Rancho Bernardo when the monitor entered “Tamper Mode” at approximately 3:30 a.m. Friday, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.

Liberty Healthcare, the state-contracted company responsible for overseeing Wakefield, went to the site after receiving the alert. Staff discovered that the GPS device had been removed and Wakefield had left. The company then contacted the sheriff’s office and San Diego police.

The sheriff’s office said Sunday that it understood the public’s concern and that investigators continued working to locate Wakefield.

“We have been working diligently to locate him,” the agency said, urging anyone with information or a possible sighting to contact authorities.

San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond said Sunday that more than 48 hours had passed since Wakefield removed his GPS monitor and walked away. In a Facebook post, Desmond described him as a convicted child molester and violent rapist and criticized the state for not issuing a public warning about the disappearance.

Wakefield is wanted for allegedly violating the conditions of his release, the sheriff’s office said. Agency records show that he was convicted in 1980 and 1991 of lewd or lascivious acts involving a child under 14 and forcible rape. He had been living under conditional release since November 2024.

Desmond said Wakefield had already disappeared by the time Liberty Healthcare personnel reached the location in response to the GPS alert.

“That’s how easy it was,” Desmond wrote in a previous post. He said the state placed Wakefield in the community in November 2024 with assurances that he would be monitored and supervised, yet he was now missing and wanted less than two years later.

Officials had voiced concerns about Wakefield’s release before it took place. In October 2024, a San Diego judge approved a transient release instead of assigning him to a specific residence, Fox 5/KUSI reported at the time. It marked the third proposed placement for Wakefield in San Diego County.

One earlier plan called for him to live at a home in Poway near a school and park, a proposal that triggered protests from residents. Poway Mayor Steve Vaus objected, warning that a release without a permanent address would make it more difficult for the public to know where Wakefield was living.

Vaus described the transient placement as “a shell game that puts a community at risk” in comments to Fox 5/KUSI.

The San Diego County District Attorney’s Office likewise opposed releasing Wakefield without a fixed residence, citing the difficulty of maintaining effective supervision. Spokesperson Tanya Sierra said the Department of State Hospitals and Liberty Healthcare should secure appropriate housing where people on conditional release could be monitored closely.

State Sen. Brian Jones also questioned where Wakefield would ultimately live. He told Fox 5/KUSI that the arrangement could leave Wakefield on the streets or in a hotel paid for by taxpayers.

“Supposedly, he’s going to have a tracking device,” Jones said at the time.

Jones had also called for an audit of California’s sexually violent predator program, the outlet reported. The audit found that about 36% of participants had violated the terms of their release. Jones criticized the program’s cost and argued that the state should keep sexually violent predators in hospitals rather than place them in communities.

The California Department of State Hospitals pushed back on criticism of the release process, telling Fox 5/KUSI that the court ultimately decides whether someone designated a sexually violent predator can be conditionally released.

The department said its supervision program used GPS monitoring, unannounced home visits and surveillance, and that breaking the rules could send someone back to a state hospital. The outlet also reported that Wakefield’s court order called for 24-hour in-person supervision wherever he stayed. That report was published before the hearing to finalize his release.

Desmond renewed his objection after Wakefield disappeared.

“I’ve fought these placements from day one,” he wrote. “These people do not belong back out in the community. They belong in a state hospital or in jail. As long as Sacramento’s law keeps putting them in our neighborhoods, families are going to keep paying the price.”

Wakefield is 5 feet, 10 inches tall, weighs 230 pounds and has brown eyes, according to the sheriff’s office. Authorities warned anyone who sees him not to approach or contact him and to call 911 or local law enforcement.
