Wil Wheaton Criticizes Dwayne Johnson for Remaining Silent on Political Opinions

0

In a fiery critique, Wil Wheaton has called out Dwayne Johnson for his recent decision to sideline his political opinions. The criticism stems from Johnson’s choice to remain apolitical, a stance that has provoked Wheaton’s ire.

Best known for his role in “Stand By Me,” Wheaton, who has been outspoken about his disapproval of former President Trump, didn’t mince words. He labeled Johnson a “coward” for opting to keep his political beliefs under wraps, a sentiment he shared with his followers Monday on Threads. His comments were a response to fellow actor George Takei’s post, which highlighted Johnson’s recent statements to Esquire magazine.

In the Esquire interview, Johnson, famed for his wrestling and acting career, explained his strategic retreat from the political arena. At 53, Johnson articulated his desire to concentrate on his professional endeavors without the distraction of political discourse casting a shadow.

“What I have learned through experience is that I need to keep — need, not want — the main thing the main thing,” Johnson stated, underscoring his intention to maintain focus on his career as a primary priority.

This decision signals a shift in Johnson’s approach, shedding light on how he plans to navigate his public persona moving forward, much to the chagrin of those who hoped he might wield his influence as a political force.

“The main thing for me, the thing that in the morning I swing my legs out of bed and I run towards, is creating. It’s art. It’s storytelling.”

“I’ve learned I’m going to keep my politics to myself,” he continued. “There are moments when, hey, there’s nothing we can’t talk about.

“If I’m wrong, I’ll tell you I’m wrong. Or if I feel like I got a leg up and this is the right way to go, I’ll share it with you.”

Johnson, who identifies as an Independent, also said he believes people with opposing political views should talk to one another instead of publicly attacking each other, adding, “I hate the slinging. I hate all the bulls— that comes with it.”

Wheaton has long been outspoken about his political views and campaigned for Kamala Harris during the 2024 presidential election.

Johnson publicly endorsed Joe Biden during the 2020 election, but ahead of the 2024 race, said that he would not endorse another presidential candidate, explaining he regretted his previous endorsement because it fueled division.

Still, the “Smashing Machine” star has spoken about Trump in recent years.

Johnson condemned the July 2024 assassination attempt on Trump in Pennsylvania, saying political violence has “no room” in America.

“Whether you love Donald, don’t love Donald, it doesn’t matter. They tried to assassinate him. There’s no room for that,” Johnson said at The Value Conference in September 2024.

“Despite it being who we were in that moment, I still believe in my core that is not who we are as a country.

“So him standing up at that moment, we wanted to see that.”

Johnson also said Trump had been a fan of his wrestling career for years and attended his matches in New York City.

During an October 2024 appearance on “Six Feet Under with Mark Calaway,” Trump revealed Johnson reached out to him after the assassination attempt.

“When I was shot, you may have heard about it, Rock called Dana White and said, ‘I want to have his number. I want to have his number. What he did is sort of incredible,’” Trump said.

“He considered it bravery. I don’t know, to me, I considered it, ‘What’s going on here?’ But it was very nice, The Rock.”

Ted Danson’s Controversial Moment: Why Apologies Aren’t Enough

Back in 1993, the world was reminded in a rather jarring way that blackface has never been acceptable, a lesson that was painfully highlighted by actor Ted Danson’s ill-fated appearance at a New York Friars Club roast. His misguided attempt to tackle racial issues through the controversial use of blackface and racial slurs drew swift and significant backlash. Notably, leading the charge was David Dinkins, New York City’s first Black mayor. At the time, Danson was in a relationship with Whoopi Goldberg, which he mistakenly believed gave him a platform to comment on race, with the blackface lending a false sense of legitimacy. Realizing the gravity of his error, Danson remains committed to apologizing for this misstep.

Reflecting on the episode, Danson initially tried to reconcile his actions by insisting there was no malicious intention. However, he soon learned a vital lesson: in matters of race, intentions are meaningless in comparison to the impact one’s actions have. Speaking on the “Who’s With Me? with W. Kamau Bell” podcast in June 2026, he acknowledged this hard truth. Although many years have passed, Danson is resolute in his ongoing apologies. “I need to and want to apologize for the rest of my life,” he said, recognizing that new generations may encounter the offensive materials online and feel disappointed. His continuous apologies are a way to express his deep regret and to assure that he’s ashamed of it.

During the controversy, Goldberg defended Danson, arguing that the performance was meant to be shocking rather than offensive. She asserted in The New York Times in 1993 that it had unfairly victimized Danson, who did not deserve the backlash. Goldberg even disclosed that she had approved the act, adding, “If they knew me, they would know that Whoopi has never been about political correctness.” Despite Goldberg’s support, Danson recognized the misjudgment of his acts and has consistently acknowledged the harm they caused.

Ted Danson and Whoopi Goldberg split shortly after blackface fiasco

The repercussions of the roast extended beyond societal backlash. Just a month after the incident, Danson and Goldberg’s celebrated relationship came to an end. Although Goldberg had staunchly defended Danson, the controversy likely contributed to their split. Upon announcing their breakup, representatives pointed to the relentless public scrutiny their interracial romance faced as a significant factor. “In some ways, they seem so different as people. And I can’t believe that whole Friars Club thing helped,” a studio source reportedly told Variety in November 1993, as noted by the Eugene Register-Guard.

Yet, the blackface scandal wasn’t the only dramatic chapter in Danson and Goldberg’s relationship. Their romance sparked during the filming of “Made in America” in 1992, while Danson was still married to Casey Coates. The affair eventually led to a highly publicized divorce when Coates filed in June 1993. Media frenzy over their relationship was relentless, driven by the affair’s revelation and the mixed-race dynamic. “News were going after us, you know, mixed race and affair,” Danson remarked during the “Who’s With Me? with W. Kamau Bell” interview, summarizing the intense public interest that swirled around their high-profile relationship.

Because they were seen as an odd couple, the tabloids continuously came up with theories to justify their unlikely pairing. “It had to be just pure sex. That’s the only reason for a relationship like this. And there was a lot of mean,” Danson told Kamau Bell. By the time the blackface fiasco happened, their relationship was already on the rocks. “Whoopi and I had had an affair. And it was ending,” he said.

Florida Tragedy: Toddler Passes Away After Being Forgotten in SUV During Daycare Pick-Up

0

Tragedy struck in Florida on Monday when a 23-month-old boy was discovered dead inside an SUV parked outside A World of Discovery Academy. Authorities shared that the boy’s father, mistakenly believing he had dropped the toddler off at daycare, left him in the vehicle.

Responding to this tragic incident around 5:39 p.m. on Monday, both the Plantation Police Department and the Plantation Fire Department descended on the early childhood education center following a call about an unresponsive child left in a vehicle.

Upon arrival, firefighters could do no more than confirm the heart-rending news that the child had died at the scene.

Leslie Novoa, the proprietor of A World of Discovery Academy, told WSVN-TV that she and the toddler’s father made the desperate call to 911 after the child was tragically found in the backseat of the family SUV.

“This is hard for the parents, hard for us,” Novoa told the station. “This is sad to see this family – a wonderful family – to go through so much pain.”

Novoa said the father arrived at the daycare to pick up his son before realizing the child had never been dropped off.

“Unfortunately, the dad arrived to pick up his child, and when he arrived to the parking lot, he realized he forgot the child,” she said. “He never dropped off the child at the school.”

Novoa said she has known the family for six years and described them as loving parents whose three children attended the daycare.

“Like I said before, they’re a very loving family, and unfortunately, this happened,” Novoa said.

The daycare later released a statement expressing condolences and pledging support for the family.

“Our primary responsibility is the safety and well-being of our students and their families,” the daycare wrote.

“We communicated with our school community as soon as possible, and we remain in contact with our families to provide support during this incredibly difficult time,” it continued. “This student and their family are beloved members of our community. At this time, our focus is on supporting those grieving this immense loss.”

According to Kids and Car Safety, formerly KidsAndCars.org, about 40 children die in hot cars each year in the United States. The organization says roughly half of those deaths occur after a parent or caregiver unintentionally leaves a child inside a vehicle.

Plantation police said the circumstances surrounding the child’s death remain under investigation.

Katy Perry Faces Latest Career Setback

0

Katy Perry’s latest musical endeavor, the single “Watch It Burn,” has not quite ignited the success she might have hoped for. This recent release seems to have landed far short of expectations, marking yet another difficult chapter for the pop superstar.

Her fans anticipated a triumphant return to her pop-rock roots with “Watch It Burn,” but the track has struggled to make a significant impact. Instead of dominating the charts, it has barely made a ripple, signaling a harsh setback in what was intended to be a grand comeback.

Debuting last Friday, Perry’s single missed the mark on Spotify’s top 200 streaming charts, both globally and in the US, casting a shadow over its performance in a highly competitive music landscape.

As reported by news.com.au, the song’s most successful moment was reaching No. 127 in Brazil, a far cry from the global chart dominance Perry once enjoyed.

This lackluster performance comes even after Perry’s significant promotional efforts, which included a high-production music video release and live debuts at major music festivals such as Rock in Rio Lisboa on June 20 and O Son do Camiño in Spain on June 18. Despite these efforts, “Watch It Burn” has yet to set the music world alight.

Fans have been stunned by the star’s career slide, with one commenting, ‘People really have moved on from her? She was, NOT THAT LONG AGO, one of the biggest pop stars on earth.’

Another wrote, ‘It’s over’, while a third added, ‘Unfortunate, because this is the best song she’s released in quite some time honestly.’

So far, Watch It Burn has performed even worse than Perry’s last single, Bandaids, which debuted at No. 101 on the global Spotify chart before dropping off.

During a recent appearance on the Unfamous podcast, Perry explained that she was ‘wrestling with my darkness’ on the angsty Watch It Burn following a ‘tough year’.

‘I have not given myself permission to be angry my whole life over things I should be f***ing angry about,’ she said.

‘What I’ve done is I pushed it down, but I should be f***ing angry. I’m allowed to be angry for a f***ing moment.’

Perry, who at one point had a string of back-to-back hits, has struggled to get her new music to connect with audiences like it once did.

Her last two studio albums, 2020’s Smile and 2024’s 143, both tanked on the charts.

On top of that, her last few singles, including Bandaids and Lifetimes, all failed to crack the Billboard Hot 100.

The star’s last charting single was 2024’s Woman’s World, which peaked briefly at No. 63 on the Hot 100 but was savaged by both fans and music critics alike.

However, Perry has seen many of her old songs surge in streams thanks to viral success on social media apps like TikTok.

Her 2011 single The One That Got Away has become an unexpected mega-hit, racking up over 1.6billion streams on Spotify alone.

Another one of her Teenage Dream hits, the chart-topping ‘Last Friday Night’, is also surging back up the Spotify charts.

Daily Mail has contacted Universal Music for comment.

It comes as Perry was forced to cancel her show at the Belgian music festival Werchter Boutique on Saturday just hours before taking to the stage.

The songstress shared a post to Instagram as she explained to fans that she had ‘no choice’ but to pull the plug on the show.

Perry had been slated to close out the festival on Saturday following Pitbull’s set, but dangerous weather conditions prevented her from doing so.

‘Sadly my set @WerchterBoutique tonight can’t happen due to a government mandated cancellation because of the incoming inclement weather and crowd safety concerns,’ she penned in the caption.

The Roar hitmaker said that she had been backstage getting ready for her show ‘when this news was delivered and they gave me no choice.’

‘I am just as unhappy as you are,’ she continued, before adding that the situation ‘is beyond my control’ and the safety of attendees is the main priority.

‘I am sorry I can’t change the weather, and even sorrier that all of us can’t be together tonight.’

Perry concluded her message to fans by expressing her disappointment that she cannot celebrate her return to the festival stage after her last appearance back in 2009.

‘I was even gonna wear the same outfit from that 2009 show again. I love you all, and please get home safe,’ the singer wrote along with a sad face emoji.

The last-minute cancellation of Perry’s show was due to ‘severe thunderstorms’ that were predicted to hit the area.

The decision was to ‘ensure that the exit of visitors proceeds in a safe and orderly manner, allowing everyone to return home calmly. The safety and health of everyone present is always our top priority.’

Egg Producers Finalize Settlement with Federal and State Authorities Following Price-Fixing Investigation

0

The Department of Justice, alongside over a dozen state governments, has announced a proposed settlement with three of the nation’s top egg producers over allegations of price manipulation. This resolution aims to address accusations that these companies colluded to artificially alter egg prices.

This settlement follows an investigation by federal antitrust authorities and state attorneys general into claims that Cal-Maine Food, Versova/Centrum, and Hickman’s Egg Ranch engaged in coordinated efforts to hike daily egg price quotations artificially. The alleged price manipulation, which spanned from June 2022 to March 2025, reportedly resulted in increased costs for both retailers and consumers.

According to the Justice Department, these companies are major suppliers of eggs to supermarkets, restaurants, and various retailers throughout the United States.

“We are pleased that these settlements will ensure egg prices remain competitive, ultimately benefiting consumers across the nation,” stated Deputy Assistant Attorney General Nicole Sarrine of the Justice Department’s antitrust division in a statement released on Tuesday.

As part of the settlement terms, the egg producers are obligated to donate a total of 53 million eggs to food banks and community organizations within the participating states. Additionally, they will collectively pay $3.3 million to those states, according to details from a June 29 complaint filed by federal and state authorities.

The complaint accuses Cal-Maine, Hickman’s and Versova of conspiring to submit bids to influence egg price quotations, creating the impression there was a greater demand than there actually was. The daily quotations from Urner Barry, a market reporting company, serve as a benchmark for the egg industry, shaping what retailers pay for eggs nationwide, according to the suit.

“Every year, billions of eggs are sold with prices based on Urner Barry’s price quotations,” the Justice Department said in its statement.

Cal-Maine, a Mississippi company that bills itself as the nation’s largest egg producer and distributor, denied any wrongdoing in a statement, calling the allegations “baseless.”

Iowa-based Versova said it is “pleased the U.S. Department of Justice investigation has been resolved without any finding of or admission of wrongdoing.”

Arizona-based Hickman’s did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The Justice Department said the settlement, which must still be approved in court, will deter the companies from communicating with competitors to influence egg prices.

The cost of eggs has been a pain point for American shoppers in recent years. Prices hit record highs last year amid an avian flu outbreak that decimated the country’s poultry flocks. A carton of large Grade A eggs now sells for an average of $2.19, down from $6.23 in March 2025, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.

In its statement, Cal-Maine cited bird flu and the COVID-19 pandemic as the main drivers of volatility in egg prices. Versova also pointed to the bird flu and said it was not responsible for setting prices.

“Egg farmers in the United States don’t set the wholesale price of eggs, which are a commodity product,” Versova said in a statement. “At Versova, most of our eggs are sold on grain-based contracts, which means the price our customers pay fluctuates based on the costs of grain inputs for hen feed.”

Discover Italy’s Latest Treasure: Etruscan Tomb Paintings Unveiled for the First Time

0

On Tuesday, Italy proudly exhibited a remarkable piece of its rich history: renowned Etruscan frescoes, originally adorning a tomb, which the Culture Ministry recently purchased for a hefty $17 million as part of its initiative to reclaim significant cultural treasures.

The acquisition, announced by the ministry in May, saw the purchase of these 4th-century fresco panels from the Torlonia family, one of Italy’s storied noble families. This family has long safeguarded a vast yet largely unseen collection of antiquities.

The Francois Tomb, which yielded these exquisite frescoes, was unearthed in 1857 by French archaeologist Alessandro Francois in Vulci—a region owned by the Torlonia family. It stands as one of the significant archaeological discoveries of the time.

In 1863, the intricate frescoes were removed from the burial site and became part of the private Torlonia collection. Meanwhile, the tomb’s various treasures were dispersed among Francois, his colleagues, and the Torlonia family.

Since 1921, the Italian government has been striving to reclaim the tomb, reflecting its broader mission to recover artefacts and antiquities that were either purchased or unlawfully removed during the fervor for archaeological exploration in the 19th century and later.

The Etruscan Civilization occupied swaths of what is today central Italy for centuries was a major Mediterranean trading power. Much of it was destroyed by the subsequent Roman Empire.

The tomb is opening to the public Wednesday at Rome’s Villa Giulia National Etruscan Museum.

Alongside the fresco panels are jewels, Etruscan vases and other items that were discovered inside the tomb, now belong in museum collections around the world and were loaned to Italy for the exhibition.

The tomb marks the Culture Ministry’s third major acquisition this year of expensive, culturally important artworks.

It paid $14.9 million for Antonello da Messina’s “ Ecce Homo” and around $35 million for a rare portrait by Caravaggio depicting Maffeo Barberini, the future Pope Urban VIII.

The funds have come from the ministry’s annual budget for acquisitions, but Culture Minister Alessandro Giuli has prioritized buying fewer, bigger-ticket items of cultural importance rather than smaller, lesser artworks and antiquities, officials said.

“In recent months, the Ministry of Culture has invested a great deal of money in acquiring masterpieces,” said Massimo Osanna, director general of Italian museums in the ministry.

Giuli has said the tomb is a “fundamental” part of Italian history that was now being returned to the Italian public to enjoy.

Luana Toniolo, director of the Villa Giulia museum, called the tomb one of the greatest masterpieces of antiquity and Etruscan painting, and one of the best preserved.

Among other things, the paintings depict the sacrifice of Trojan prisoners and battles of Etruscan heroes.

“It is a vast book of stone and color that tells us about families, warriors, gods and heroes — both Etruscans and Greeks — and recounts Greek myths reinterpreted through an Etruscan lens,” she said.

New Yorker Claims Police Retaliated for Criticizing ICE

In a separate incident, a second resident of New York reported on Tuesday that federal authorities issued a warning due to an email he sent, which was deemed threatening because it criticized the tactics employed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

David Streever, from Rochester, learned from his lawyer and the Associated Press that while he was visiting Finland last week, two officers came to his home. They delivered a notice to his wife, alerting him that his earlier email had been categorized as a threat.

Back in January, Streever had reached out via email to Todd Lyons, then-acting director of ICE, following the fatal shooting of U.S. citizen Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent during an immigration operation in Minneapolis.

In his message, Streever condemned Lyons as “a monstrous human being” and expressed that Lyons “will never know peace.”

Agents confront man over anti-ICE email

“The way you are protecting the obvious execution in Minnesota, even as we see the videos, will lead to your downfall. Even Trump will turn on you before the end, and you will be a sad, despised man who eats himself alive with shame at your own pathetic weakness,” Streever said in the email, according to Adam Steinbaugh, an attorney with the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression who is representing Streever.

Federal officers also attempted to confront Streever at a New York City hotel after he returned from Finland, but hotel staff turned them away, Steinbaugh said.

Steinbaugh argued the email was protected speech under the First Amendment and does not represent a legitimate threat.

“A true threat is a serious expression of an intent to commit violence. This email doesn’t even come close,” Steinbaugh said. “It’s political speech, it’s an act of petitioning your government.”

Streever said he was shocked that federal officers came to his home to question him over his email.

“Like many Americans, I was deeply upset after the shootings in Minnesota and I felt compelled to do something,” he said in a statement to The Associated Press. “Writing a letter to the head of ICE seemed like the least I could do to express my sense of outrage. I never dreamed it would lead to a knock on my door by federal officers.”

News Media reached out to ICE for comment.

Paigelynne Gonyea warned by agents

“ICE investigates all credible threats towards its employees and officers, including threats to the ICE Director,” the agency said in a statement to The Associated Press.

The warning to Streever was presented the same week poll worker Paigelynne Gonyea, of Syracuse, said two federal officers confronted her at a voting site during New York’s primaries to question her about a social media post she made about Jonathan Ross, the ICE officer who killed Good.

Gonyea said she believes the warning to her was because of a post she made in January in which she shared a picture of Ross along with the caption: “I think today is a great day for Jonathan to be indicted.”

Her post, which is still online, was made after Ross had already been identified by the media.

A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security, Lauren Bis, shared an image of a different social media post from Gonyea in which she said the woman shared Ross’ address, according to The Associated Press, although part of the post was redacted.

Bis said in a statement last week that Gonyea “committed a federal crime by posting the address of an ICE law enforcement officer online” and “if you doxx our officers, we will investigate you, and you will be brought to justice.”

Free speech advocates, including those at the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression and the American Civil Liberties Union, have argued that these two incidents show federal law enforcement infringing on Americans’ rights to privacy and free expression.

Nathan Freed Wessler, deputy director of the ACLU’s speech, privacy and technology project, said the First Amendment guarantees the right to criticize the government.

“Nobody should be tracked down at their home or hotel room by federal agents in retribution for sending an email merely expressing frustration and opposition to the government’s actions,” Wessler told The Associated Press. “This is an abuse of power and a gross attempt to chill Americans’ constitutionally protected speech.”

ICE and DHS have said they investigate credible threats and doxxing of law enforcement officers. The government has not publicly provided a fuller explanation of why Streever’s email was treated as a threat.

Cheerful sisters ‘Cookie’ and ‘Kitty’ freshen up just before police arrival

0

A haunting photo has surfaced that chillingly captures the last moments of a mother of five’s life. This image reveals the aftermath of a purportedly brutal attack by two sisters, who, after committing the stabbing, reportedly took a shower to cleanse themselves of the blood.

The victim, 32-year-old Caroline ‘Caro’ Pena, succumbed to multiple stab wounds on Thursday. The tragic event took place in Del Rio, Texas, following a violent confrontation involving three women.

In the photograph, blood is visibly soaking through Pena’s shirt as her assailants linger in the background, embodying a stark image of the incident’s grim reality.

Authorities apprehended Kitty Mia Diaz, 21, her younger sister, Amaya ‘Cookie’ Diaz, 19, and their acquaintance, Kyandra Renee Faz, 21, in Del Rio, a border town situated roughly two hours from San Antonio.

In an unsettling twist to the unfolding horror, Kitty and Amaya reportedly took the time to shower before their eventual arrest.

‘While speaking with Kitty and Amaya, it was observed that they were no longer wearing the clothing originally seen on the video footage, and they had recently showered, as their hair was wet,’ police claimed in the complaint, referencing footage that captured the assault on Pena.

Footage of the trio’s arrest showed the smiling suspects in their new outfits.

Kitty changed out of the pink top and blue jeans she was seen wearing in video of the attack into a revealing black romper with a print of hands cupping her breasts on it.

Amaya smiled and smirked as she was led away by police in a different outfit as well.

Each of the three woman have been charged with murder in Pena’s death and are likely to remain in jail as each has a $5 million bond, according to criminal complaints obtained by the Daily Mail.

While the reason Pena met up with her attackers at a home on the 800 block of E. 10th Street remains unclear, the victim’s uncle has revealed that the women all knew each other.

‘It’s a small town. I knew one of their uncles. Their family, everyone has a connection, so it’s even harder. I worked with (the uncle) 30 years. They were close to us. What can you do,’ the unnamed uncle said in a phone interview with the Daily Mail from Del Rio.

The uncle did not speculate on the motive behind the attack, however, police revealed the whole confrontation and killing was captured on video from cameras at Faz’s house.

‘Carolina was observed arriving at Kyandra’s residence and exiting a black Dodge pickup truck,’ the criminal complaint stated.

‘Shortly after, a black Chrysler 300 arrives on scene, to which Amaya and Kitty exit and confront Carolina. Within the video footage, Amaya is observed exiting the front passenger seat of the vehicle and approaching Carolina.’

Amaya – who smirked and smiled as she was being arrested – arrived with a knife in her hand, police alleged.

‘Within the video footage, Amaya is observed with an object believed to be a knife in her right hand. Amaya and Carolina get into an altercation, and Amaya is observed striking Carolina in the back, where blood can be observed on the back of her shirt,’ the complaint reads.

Kitty and Faz later joined in in allegedly assaulting Pena. After that, all four women separated and left.

A photograph taken of the women after the attack was posted on a local Facebook page before later being removed.

The image shows Pena’s white top covered in blood.

Zelina Ochoa, the victim’s friend, said the image was especially difficult to process because she believes it illustrated the imbalance between the alleged attackers and the victim.

‘It’s a very powerful picture because it shows, you know, these three girls showed up with their weapons and Caro showed up with nothing but her hands,’ Ochoa said.

Pena went to a local hospital before she was taken to a hospital in San Antonio due to the severity of her wounds.

She died hours later.

Her family spent Tuesday making funeral plans for her while caring for her kids ages 3-16.

‘Her kids are the ones that are taking it the hardest,’ Pena’s uncle told the Daily Mail. ‘The youngest one, she was going on three.’
