Open Heaven 26 June 2026 – Seeing Eyes (1)

Open Heaven 26 June 2026 Friday Daily Devotional By Pastor E. A. Adeboye – Seeing Eyes (1)

Open Heaven 26 June 2026 TOPIC – Seeing Eyes (1)

MEMORISE: The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the Lord hath made even both of them. – Proverbs 20:12 (KJV)

READ: 2 Kings 4:1-7 (KJV)

1 Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the Lord: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.

2 And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil.

3 Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few.

4 And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full.

5 So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out.

6 And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed.

7 Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalm 119

Open Heaven 26 June 2026 MESSAGE

Today’s Bible reading tells us about a widow who was about to lose her sons to slavery because her late husband left behind a huge debt. She was in a desperate situation, and in her desperation, she ran to Prophet Elisha and shared her plight with him. After telling the prophet about her troubles, he asked her what she had in her house, and she replied, “Nothing, except a pot of oil.” She thought that what she had was little, but she didn’t realize that it was all she needed to become financially free.

Sometimes, you don’t need more than what you already have in order to receive what God has in store for you. All that the widow in today’s Bible reading needed to have a financial breakthrough had been in her house all along, but she didn’t know it. It took Elisha’s instructions on what to do with what she had to help her experience the potential of the little that was in her possession. If God had opened her eyes to see what He could do with the little she had, she would have never been in distress. I pray that the Almighty God will open your eyes to see the solutions He has put around you, in Jesus’ name.

In today’s memory verse, the Bible says that the ears that hear and the eyes that see were made by the Lord. This means that a person can be surrounded by prosperity; however, if God doesn’t enable that person to see the opportunities, He has placed around him or her, such a person can die in poverty. Having eyes that see is more than just having physical eyes. When you have eyes that see, you will see opportunities where others see challenges and abundance where others see scarcity. When God opened Isaac’s eyes to see opportunities in the midst of famine, he became so wealthy that the Philistines began to envy him because he had become wealthier than them (Genesis 26:1 2-1 6).

Beloved, in order to thrive, you need to have eyes that see. You need to see beyond the ordinary to achieve extraordinary results. Over the next few days, I will share the importance of having seeing eyes and why you should ask the Lord for them. I pray that my Daddy will give you seeing eyes so you will see opportunities where others see obstacles and experience breakthroughs where others experience oppositions, in Jesus’ name.

Open Heaven 26 June 2026 PRAYER POINT

Lord, please give me seeing eyes so I can make the best of the opportunities You have put around me.

Open Heaven 26 June 2026 HYMN 27 – What A Friend We Have In Jesus

1 What a friend we have in Jesus,
all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
all because we do not carry
everything to God in prayer!

2 Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged;
take it to the Lord in prayer!
Can we find a friend so faithful
who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness;
take it to the Lord in prayer!

3 Are we weak and heavy laden,
cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge-
take it to the Lord in prayer!
Do your friends despise, forsake you?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In his arms he’ll take and shield you;
you will find a solace there.

Tragic Shooting on Chicago’s Northwest Side: Two Found Dead on West Cahill Terrace

0

CHICAGO (WLS) — Tragedy struck Chicago’s Dunning neighborhood when a daytime dispute turned deadly, leaving two people fatally shot, according to police reports.

Authorities were called to the scene around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday near the intersection of Forest Preserve Drive and Addison. Upon arrival, officers discovered two men behind a home on West Cahill Terrace, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Among the injured was a 20-year-old man who had been shot in the head, police confirmed.

ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watch

Both men were transported in critical condition to Lutheran General Hospital, but sadly, they succumbed to their injuries and passed away.

Witnesses in the neighborhood recounted that the shooting followed a fierce argument that occurred outside. One of the residents, Andy Jekiel, shared his perspective on the violent incident.

“It was like the Wild Wild West. They shot each other,” Jekiel said, reflecting the shock and chaos that erupted in this usually peaceful area.

Jekiel said he first heard raised voices before the gunfire erupted.

“They were shouting at one another,” he said.

“It was an argument going on. We heard something going off. Then all of a sudden, pop, pop, pop, pop. I thought it was fireworks.”

Crime scene tape surrounded several apartment buildings for hours as investigators worked the scene.

Jekiel also said he heard there may have been multiple weapons involved.

“I think there were three guns laying down on the floor from what I understand,” he said.

Authorities have not confirmed whether any firearms were recovered at the scene, nor have they identified a motive. Police also said they have no information to share about a possible suspect.

Neighbors expressed shock over the violence.

“Over an argument. They can’t come back. They’re gone. Life is so precious. It’s sad. To be honest with you, it’s terrible,” Jekiel said.

The investigation remains ongoing.

DCLM Daily Manna 26 June 2026 — Vileness Of Oppression

DCLM Daily Manna 26 June 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Vileness Of Oppression

TOPIC: Vileness Of Oppression (DCLM Daily Manna 26 June 2026)

KEY VERSE: And there was a great cry of the people and of their wives against their brethren the Jews – Nehemiah 5:1

TEXT: Nehemiah 5:1-6 (KJV)

1 And there was a great cry of the people and of their wives against their brethren the Jews.

2 For there were that said, We, our sons, and our daughters, are many: therefore we take up corn for them, that we may eat, and live.

3 Some also there were that said, We have mortgaged our lands, vineyards, and houses, that we might buy corn, because of the dearth.

4 There were also that said, We have borrowed money for the king’s tribute, and that upon our lands and vineyards.

5 Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, our children as their children: and, lo, we bring into bondage our sons and our daughters to be servants, and some of our daughters are brought unto bondage already: neither is it in our power to redeem them; for other men have our lands and vineyards.

6 And I was very angry when I heard their cry and these words.

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

Prophet Isaiah once exclaimed, in an attempt to evoke an undying reality: “Let favour be shewed to the wicked, yet will he not learn righteousness: in the land of uprightness will he deal unjustly, and will not behold the majesty of the LORD” (Isaiah 26:10). The message is strikingly clear: except there is an inner gracious transformation, sinners and backsliders walk contrary to God and that by choice.

The reconstruction of the resettlers under Nehemiah had experienced tremendous progress, accompanied by hearty cooperation and synergy in the building project. Sadly, a wave of painful shock suddenly whirled around the team, but this time from within their own ranks. It was an internecine socio-economic crisis that borders on oppression, insensitivity, and flagrant disregard for the word of God on social relations among the Jews. The poor had a strong case against their rich brethren. Landowners saw their lands mortgaged to the rich in exchange for food for their families. Wealthy Jews exploited their brothers and sisters by loaning them money and taking their lands and their children as collateral. Jewish boys and girls had to choose between starvation and servitude! Usury was the order of the day. The oppressed wives and families cried out.

It is clear that God has a special concern for the poor and will not hold anyone guiltless for taking advantage of them. Generosity, hospitality and conscientious care must characterise our brotherhood. Even in business, our conduct and dealings must reflect the Bible’s teaching of honesty and equity. Employers should pay full and fair wages just as they painstakingly refrain from oppression.

Our personal Christian principles must include the avoidance of taking advantage of vulnerable, economically disadvantaged brethren in the church. Usury amongst the brethren must be avoided like a plague. Hospitality, fairness and love without dissimulation must be our watchword. We will do well always to remember that they that do wickedly deal unjustly both with God and man, and with their own souls.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
No one can successfully combine being a Christian and an oppressor.

Spain’s Underrated Star, Mikel Oyarzabal: Why Tottenham or Man United Should Challenge Barcelona’s Interest in the Lamine Yamal Outperformer

0

Mikel Oyarzabal stands out as a refreshing exception in a world often dominated by egotistical strikers.

Rather than seeking the services of a high-profile agent, he relies on the guidance of his parents, Dorleta and Ernesto. Oyarzabal has remained loyal to Real Sociedad throughout his career, avoiding the usual transfer market frenzy. His reserved approach extends to social media, where he has a modest following of just 359,000 on Instagram, overshadowed by Spain’s third-choice goalkeeper Joan Garcia, who boasts 3.1 million followers.

When it comes to fashion, Oyarzabal opts for simplicity, with his appearance likened to that of a private school student by a Spanish broadcaster. He’s also comfortable letting his teammates enjoy the spotlight.

After Spain’s decisive 4-0 victory over Saudi Arabia, Zlatan Ibrahimovic expressed his confusion over the current state of football on FOX. “Everyone seemed to focus on Lamine Yamal,” he remarked. “Were we even watching the same game?”

Ibrahimovic continued, “Mikel Oyarzabal was the one doing the hard work on the field. If he had played that game with Lamine’s name on his back, people would be talking about a performance worthy of the Ballon d’Or. That’s the truth that often goes unspoken.”

Spain's Mikel Oyarzabal, who goes quietly about his business, was superb in his side's 4-0 win over Saudia Arabia

Oyarzabal, in the right place at the right time, tucks home his second goal against Saudi Arabia

Oyarzabal, in the right place at the right time, tucks home his second goal against Saudi Arabia

The truth is, Oyarzabal has always been like this. Unassuming in his manner, selective with his words, a leader without being bombastic, and desperate not to receive any special treatment.

It was why, while living in a four-bedroom student flat after making his first-team debut for Real Sociedad as an 18-year-old, he found himself locked out after returning home from a Copa del Rey match at 4am. With his flatmates asleep, rather than wake them up, he abandoned hopes of getting back to his bed.

It was also why when it came to assignments for his business administration degree at the University of Deusto, there was to be no special treatment compared to his classmates. Studying en route to away days and while team-mates played video games, Oyarzabal was happy to just blend in.

At 18, Lionel Messi was scoring at the 2006 World Cup. At that same age, Yamal had already scored at a World Cup. Cristiano Ronaldo was a Manchester United regular, lighting up the Champions League.

When Oyarzabal was 18, his head was buried in his books. He wouldn’t even grace the world’s biggest tournament until he was 29, robbed of a spot at the 2022 World Cup due to a cruciate ligament injury that sidelined him for nine months.

So no, there isn’t the hype, appreciation, the razzmatazz that follows strikers like a shadow, with Oyarzabal. But there should be. Few players are as revered and celebrated by fellow pros as the Spaniard, making it all the more remarkable how so few fans see him in the same light.

Oyarzabal is under contract with Real Sociedad until 2028 with a release clause of €75million (£64m), although Barcelona, who have him as their back-up plan to Julian Alvarez, are targeting a fee closer to £30m.

And in a market where Premier League clubs are paying north of £85m for strikers, Aston Villa, Everton, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, all of whom would benefit immensely from a new forward like Oyarzabal, would be mad not to look at him. Man City and Arsenal have liked him in the past, though at 29 that window might have passed.

Oyarzabal scores Spain's second goal, his first, against the Saudis. 'Anyone who understands football values him enormously,’ Spain boss Luis de la Fuente said this week

Publicly and privately, Spain’s wonderkid Lamine Yamal is in awe of his team-mate, often referring to him as the nation’s MVP (Most Valuable Player)

‘Anyone who understands football values him enormously,’ Spain boss Luis de la Fuente said this week. ‘For some people, the impact he has may seem small, but here we know just how significant it is.’

Publicly and privately, Yamal is in awe of his team-mate, often referring to him as the nation’s MVP (Most Valuable Player). Marc Cucurella said of Oyarzabal recently: ‘Perhaps not many people thought Mikel had that level before. But I always said that when you play with him, you realise what he brings.’

But you should not need to play with Oyarzabal to know his immense quality. This is a player who is joint-seventh on Spain’s all-time goalscoring charts alongside Fernando Morientes. This is a player who has scored in all six of the major finals he has played in, including scoring the winning goal against England to clinch the 2024 European Championship.

This is a player who has scored in seven of Spain’s last eight games. This is a player who everyone inside that Spain dressing room looks to for leadership.

‘You can lead and set an example without going crazy, without shouting, without being a disciplinarian,’ Oyarzabal said on the eve of the World Cup. ‘There are several ways, and they are all equally valid.’

That’s not to say he hasn’t got a sharp tongue when it’s required, though. ‘Mikel is like a mother,’ team-mate Nico Williams explained. ‘He scolds you when necessary and shows you affection when you need it.’

But being unfashionable and unassuming means the good and the bad can often get overlooked. In Spain’s shock 0-0 draw against Cape Verde, Oyarzabal became the first player on record since 1966 to go the first 30 minutes of a World Cup match with exactly zero touches. Few outside of Spain picked up on it.

Next up, against Saudi Arabia, an unplayable Oyarzabal scored twice and added an assist inside 24 minutes, becoming just the third player since 1966 to record three goal involvements in the opening half-hour of a World Cup game. Again, many were too preoccupied with the ‘bigger’ name forwards to pay much attention to him.

Oyarzabal, who has never commanded a transfer fee, is under contract with Real Sociedad until 2028 and has a release clause of £64m

Oyarzabal, who has never commanded a transfer fee, is under contract with Real Sociedad until 2028 and has a release clause of £64m

In the early hours of Saturday morning, Spain play their final group match against Uruguay. Don’t bet against Oyarzabal scoring again.

‘The funny thing about Oyarzabal is that people keep talking about other stars, and he just keeps producing numbers that most strikers would only dream of,’ said Paul Scholes after the Saudi Arabia game.

‘Fourteen goals and seven assists in 13 games (Oyarzabal’s recent record for Spain) is ridiculous. If a bigger-name player were achieving those numbers, we’d be hearing about it every day.’

At some point soon, Oyarzabal will shed the ‘underrated’ tag he loathes for good. And then talk will go from people doubting him to asking themselves: how on earth did we not appreciate him sooner?

Rhapsody Of Realities 26 June 2026: Spiritual Weapons For Spiritual Warfare

Rhapsody Of Realities 26 June 2026 By Pastor Chris Oyakhilome (Christ Embassy): Spiritual Weapons For Spiritual Warfare

TOPIC: Spiritual Weapons For Spiritual Warfare (Rhapsody of Realities 26 June 2026)

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God… (2 Corinthians 10:4-5).

Rhapsody Of Realities For Today’s MESSAGE:

The Bible makes it clear that as Christians, we’re engaged in a spiritual warfare. This warfare isn’t against flesh and blood or humans but against principalities, powers, and rulers of the darkness of this world (Ephesians 6:12). These are spiritual personalities, and therefore the warfare is spiritual.

Now, because the conflict is spiritual, the weapons we employ can’t be man-made or natural. The Scriptures declare that they’re mighty through God, to the pulling down of strong holds. Our victory against the adversary isn’t determined by physical strength, human strategies, or intellectual reasoning but by the spiritual weapons God has made available to us.

In our opening scripture, the Spirit, through the Apostle Paul, highlights a specific dimension of this warfare. He shows that certain spiritual weapons are designed to deal with strongholds in the mental realm. These strongholds include imaginations, arguments, prejudices, and reasonings that exalt themselves against the knowledge of God. These are entrenched patterns of thinking that contradict God’s truth.

But with the Word of God, through the power of the Holy Spirit, we dismantle such strongholds or mental fortresses and bring them into alignment with Christ. This is a particular category of spiritual warfare, specifically the kind that deals with the mental realm. Not all spiritual warfare is limited to this dimension.

The Scriptures reveal that spiritual engagement can involve broader operations against demonic structures and influences. Therefore, you must approach spiritual warfare with the right understanding. Where it concerns mental strongholds, apply God’s Word, and every reasoning, imagination and resistance to God’s truth will be dismantled.

PRAYER

Dear Father, thank you for the spiritual weapons you’ve given me for victory in life. By your Word and the power of the Spirit, I pull down strongholds, cast down imaginations, and bring every thought into obedience of Christ. My mind is governed by your truth, and I walk continually in dominion and victory, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY

Ephesians 6:12 (AMPC)
For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the despotisms, against the powers, against [the master spirits who are] the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) sphere.

Hebrews 4:12 (KJV)
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

2 Corinthians 10:4-5 (AMPC)
For the weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood], but they are mighty before God for the overthrow and destruction of strongholds, [5] [Inasmuch as we] refute arguments and theories and reasonings and every proud and lofty thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God; and we lead every thought and purpose away captive into the obedience of Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One),

Revitalize Your Balance: 5 Chair Exercises That Outperform Tai Chi for Seniors

0

Discover five effective chair exercises designed to enhance balance and stability for those over the age of 60, with the comfort of support right at their fingertips.

>

Tai Chi is an excellent practice for fostering body awareness, improving coordination, calming the breath, and ensuring movement flows smoothly. For many older adults, chair exercises offer a simple and accessible way to regain balance because they provide the necessary support in an easy-to-reach manner. A sturdy chair becomes a reliable partner as you engage your feet, ankles, hips, legs, and core in mastering the art of controlled and steady motion.

Enhancing balance hinges on regularly challenging your body to shift weight, lift a leg, maintain posture, and stand tall while adjusting through minor positional changes. Chair exercises are a convenient method to build these skills daily. Whether you prefer to exercise seated, standing, or with light support, this flexibility allows you to strengthen and stabilize at a pace that suits you.

In my approach to coaching balance exercises, I aim for routines where individuals experience immediate success. An effective regimen should bolster confidence, refine control, and make everyday activities feel more fluid. These five chair exercises specifically target crucial aspects of balance: strengthening legs, stabilizing hips, controlling ankles, maintaining good posture, and building confidence when standing on one leg.

Seated Marches

Seated marches train your hip flexors, quads, and core while providing a supported way to practice lifting one leg at a time. Stronger hip flexors help you walk with a cleaner stride, step over objects, and climb stairs with better control. The chair allows you to sit tall and focus on smooth knee lifts, which build coordination through your hips and midsection. This simple drill sets the tone for better balance because each rep teaches your body to move one leg while staying steady.

Muscles Trained: Hip flexors, quadriceps, core.

How to Do It:

  1. Sit tall near the front edge of a sturdy chair.
  2. Plant your feet flat on the floor.
  3. Brace your core and lift your chest.
  4. Raise one knee toward your chest.
  5. Lower your foot with control.
  6. Alternate legs in a steady rhythm.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 10 to 12 reps per leg. Rest for 30 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: Paused seated marches, slower seated marches, banded seated marches.

Form Tip: Keep your posture tall as your knee lifts.

Sit-to-Stand

Sit-to-stands train your glutes, quads, hamstrings, and core while helping you practice one of the most important balance skills after 60. Every rep builds strength in a seated position, which carries over to standing up from the couch, getting out of the car, and rising from the dinner table. The chair gives you a clear target and helps you control the lowering phase. Smooth sit-to-stands build leg strength, improve posture, and boost confidence in a single practical movement.

Muscles Trained: Glutes, quadriceps, hamstrings, core.

How to Do It:

  1. Sit near the front edge of a sturdy chair.
  2. Place your feet flat on the floor, about hip-width apart.
  3. Brace your core and lean your torso slightly forward.
  4. Press through your feet to stand tall.
  5. Squeeze your glutes at the top.
  6. Lower back to the chair with control.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 8 to 12 reps. Rest for 45 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: No hands sit-to-stands, slower sit-to-stands, paused sit-to-stands.

Form Tip: Press through your whole foot and stand tall at the top.

Chair-Supported Single-Leg Balance

Chair-supported single-leg balance trains your feet, ankles, calves, hips, and core while giving you a safe support point. Standing on one leg helps your body make small corrections from the ground up, which builds better control for walking, turning, and stepping off curbs. The chair adds confidence while your standing leg learns to hold position. A light touch works well because your body still practices balance while the support stays close.

Muscles Trained: Foot stabilizers, calves, glutes, hip stabilizers, core.

How to Do It:

  1. Stand behind a sturdy chair and place your hands lightly on the backrest.
  2. Shift your weight onto one foot.
  3. Lift your opposite foot slightly off the floor.
  4. Brace your core and keep your hips level.
  5. Hold the position while breathing steadily.
  6. Switch sides after each hold.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 rounds of 15 to 30 seconds per leg. Rest for 30 seconds between rounds.

Best Variations: Fingertip support holds, knee-lift holds, longer balance holds.

Form Tip: Keep your weight centered over your standing foot.

Standing Heel Raises

Standing heel raises train your calves, ankles, and foot stabilizers, while the chair provides steady support. Your lower legs play a major role in balance by helping control each step and stabilizing your body as your weight shifts. Raising and lowering your heels builds strength in your ankles and calves, which can make walking and climbing stairs feel smoother. Use slow reps and pause at the top to make the movement more effective.

Muscles Trained: Calves, ankles, foot stabilizers, core.

How to Do It:

  1. Stand behind a sturdy chair with your hands lightly on the backrest.
  2. Place your feet about hip width apart.
  3. Brace your core and stand tall.
  4. Rise onto the balls of your feet.
  5. Pause briefly at the top.
  6. Lower your heels with control.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 12 to 15 reps. Rest for 30 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: Seated heel raises, single-leg heel raises, paused heel raises.

Form Tip: Lift straight up through your big toes, keeping your ankles steady.

Chair-Supported Side Leg Raises

Chair-supported side leg raises target your outer hips and glutes, helping keep your pelvis steady during walking and weight shifts. Strong outer hips support side-to-side balance, a skill that matters when you step around objects, move across uneven ground, or change direction. The chair gives you support so you can focus on lifting from the hip with control. Smooth reps help your hips build strength while your standing leg practices staying steady.

Muscles Trained: Outer glutes, hip stabilizers, core.

How to Do It:

  1. Stand behind a sturdy chair with your hands lightly on the backrest.
  2. Shift your weight onto one foot.
  3. Brace your core and stand tall.
  4. Lift your opposite leg out to the side.
  5. Pause briefly at the top.
  6. Lower your leg with control and switch sides after your reps.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 10 to 12 reps per side. Rest for 30 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: Mini band side leg raises, paused side leg raises, and slower side leg raises.

Form Tip: Keep your toes facing forward and lift from your hip.

How to Build Better Balance From a Chair

Chair balance work builds confidence through steady practice. The chair gives you support while your legs, hips, ankles, and core develop the strength and control needed for daily movement. Treat each rep as a chance to move more smoothly, stand taller, and improve your body’s response to weight shifts.

  • Use light support: Keep your hands on the chair for confidence while your body does the work. A light touch helps your balance system stay active.
  • Practice slow movement: Slower reps give your muscles more time to control each position. Smooth movement builds better coordination.
  • Train your ankles and hips: Heel raises strengthen the lower legs, while side leg raises strengthen the outer hips. Both areas help your body stay steady.
  • Build standing confidence: Single-leg balance and sit-to-stands help you practice the positions that appear often during daily life.
  • Repeat the routine often: A few minutes of balance work most days can build steady progress. Short sessions fit easily into the morning, afternoon, or evening.

A chair can become one of the most useful balance tools in the house. Use it for support, move with control, and let these exercises help you feel steadier through every step, stand, and turn.

Hollywood’s Golden Era Icon Ann Blyth, Star of ‘Mildred Pierce,’ Passes Away at 98

0

Ann Blyth, celebrated for her Oscar-nominated performance as Joan Crawford’s deceitful and malicious daughter in the iconic 1945 melodrama “Mildred Pierce,” passed away on Wednesday at the age of 98, according to media reports. Blyth’s remarkable career spanned across diverse genres during Hollywood’s Golden Age.

Blyth, who originally trained as an opera singer, showcased her versatility in film musicals, intense dramas, and even comedies, such as her role as a mermaid in a farce. Reports indicate she died of natural causes.

Throughout a film career that spanned from 1944 to 1957, Blyth appeared in over 30 movies. At just 16, she delivered a powerhouse performance in “Mildred Pierce,” the role that remains her most memorable. The film also provided Joan Crawford with her sole Academy Award.

In the film, Blyth held her ground brilliantly against Crawford, portraying Veda, a status-driven and murderous daughter who competes with her mother over her stepfather, played by Zachary Scott. One unforgettable scene saw Blyth’s Veda slap Crawford’s character, knocking her to the floor.

In a fit of fury, Crawford’s character warns Blyth’s Veda, “Get out before I kill you.”

The movie was directed by Michael Curtiz, whose other films included the classics “Casablanca,” “The Adventures of Robin Hood” and “Yankee Doodle Dandy.”

“He had a great confidence in me, which in turn helped me,” Blyth told the Los Angeles Times in 2013 of Curtiz.

“She just blew everybody away,” film historian Alan Rode told the Times, referring to Blyth. “It’s certainly Joan Crawford’s movie, but she is really the spine of the movie. She is the epitome of the film noir daughter from hell. It’s just an amazing performance that stands the test of time.”

“Mildred Pierce” was a hit with the public and critics, earning an Oscar nomination as ‌best picture. Crawford won the Oscar as best actress, while both Blyth and co-star Eve Arden were nominated as best supporting actress but did not win.

Blyth’s career momentum was stymied after “Mildred Pierce” when she suffered a broken back in a toboggan accident.

Her versatility enabled her to shine in musicals like “Kismet” (1955) and “The Student Prince” (1954), spectacles like “The Golden Horde” (1951), comedies including “Mr. Peabody and the Mermaid” (1948) co-starring William Powell, and dramas like “One Minute to Zero” (1952) with Robert Mitchum.

The petite, brunette actress appeared alongside other top male stars including Burt Lancaster in “Brute Force” (1947), Mickey Rooney in “Killer McCoy” (1947), Bing Crosby in “Top o’ the Morning” (1949), Mario Lanza in “The Great Caruso” (1951), Gregory Peck in “The World in His Arms” (1952) and Paul Newman in “The Helen Morgan Story” (1957), her last movie.

She had a lovely soprano voice and performed early in her career on the operatic stage.

Blyth was a natural for film musicals, although for the songs in “The Helen Morgan Story” the studio insisted on dubbing her vocals with another singer.

She occasionally appeared in TV roles after his last film including “The Twilight Zone” in 1964 and ending with “Murder, She Wrote” in 1985.

Ann Marie Blyth was born on Aug. 16, 1928, in Mount Kisco, New York.

She trained as a singer and actress as a child. While touring as a teenager with a Broadway play in Los Angeles, she was given a screen test that led to her Hollywood career.

Blyth had five children with her husband James McNulty, who died in 2007.

Emergency Strikes: Lionel Richie Hospitalized During Live Concert Performance

Lionel Richie was rushed to the hospital after experiencing a sudden illness during his stage performance. The renowned singer of “Three Times A Lady” unexpectedly brought his concert to a close at the Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, Minnesota, on Wednesday. At 77, the former lead vocalist of The Commodores started feeling “dizzy” while performing and had to take a seat mid-show. Paramedics attended to the music icon backstage, and he was subsequently transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital, as reported by TMZ.

This incident occurred at the beginning of Richie’s co-headlining Sing A Song All Night Long tour with Earth, Wind & Fire. He announced an unplanned break after delivering a rendition of “Three Times A Lady” from his piano, according to Minnesota’s local outlet, Bring Me The News.

Shortly thereafter, Richie’s band left the stage. Approximately 40 minutes following the interruption, a band member reappeared to inform the audience that Richie would not be returning, citing his illness as the reason.

“Sadly, Lionel isn’t feeling well,” announced saxophonist Dino Soldo, according to the same publication. “He won’t be able to continue. More information will be shared soon.”

In videos from the event, Richie can be seen pausing to sit down several times during his penultimate song, “Dancing On The Ceiling.”

He reportedly told the crowd that he was feeling “dizzy”.

A fan who attended the concert told the publication Richie “said he has been in this business long enough, if you feel dizzy you sit down! And if you don’t feel right, you sit down!”

One disappointed audience member called the surprise end to the show “horrible” while speaking to the Star Tribune.

“I’m super bummed. This was my first time [seeing Richie] and I’m old,” they vented.

Shark Attack Survivor Emerges from 10-Day Coma, Shares Heartfelt First Words with Family

After ten days in an induced coma due to a shark attack at a beach in Sydney, Australia, a woman has finally spoken her first words this week.

Leah Stewart, while recovering in a hospital, awoke on Tuesday and expressed her love to her family by saying, “I love you,” according to an update shared by her brother on a fundraising page.

“Following a week of life support and multiple surgeries, doctors were able to remove Leah from the ventilator and decrease her sedation, allowing her to emerge from the induced coma briefly,” her brother explained. “During this time, Leah vocalized her first words, ‘I love you,’ to her mother and partner, Fernando, both of whom have remained steadfastly by her side in the ICU since the attack.”

He mentioned that Leah’s initial thoughts were of her daughter, August, as she inquired about her well-being.

The mid-30s mother and teacher has already been through five surgeries, including having an arm amputated.

She had been airlifted to a hospital in critical condition on the morning of June 13 at Coogee Beach, a popular weekend destination, after a shark bit her legs and arms.

Stewart was swimming near shore while a friend watched her daughter on the beach when the attack happened, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

“This is a lot faster than anyone expected, and for us this feels like a miracle and is everything so many of us have hoped and prayed for over the past week,” Stewart wrote on a fundraising page.

He added, “Leah has a long road ahead and still remains in critical care, but this is such a positive first step and gives us hope for Leah’s long-term recovery.”

Stewart’s attack came after three men have been killed by sharks in Australia since May. A 12-year-old boy was also killed by a shark in Sydney Harbor in January.

Tragic Family Incident: Grandmother Suspected of Fatal Poisoning in Murder-Suicide

0

In a chilling turn of events, a family tragedy unfolded in New York, where authorities suspect a grandmother may have carried out a murder-suicide, claiming the lives of her daughter and four grandchildren. This devastating incident has left a community in shock.

On a fateful Tuesday, the lifeless bodies of 64-year-old Amy Steadman and her family were discovered inside a Mechanicville apartment. The victims included Steadman’s daughter, 44-year-old Sarah Myers, and Myers’ children—Harper, aged 13; Hudson, aged 11; and the twins, Gavin and Gracelynn, both 10.

A twist in the investigation emerged in the following days when Mechanicville Police Chief William Rabbitt revealed that evidence compellingly pointed to Steadman’s involvement in this horrendous act. This revelation has deepened the tragedy and mystery surrounding the case.

Key clues leading to this suspicion include a handwritten note found at the scene, along with numerous bottles of prescription and over-the-counter medications, hinting at possible poisoning. These details were highlighted in reports by the Democrat and Chronicle.

Further insights from NewsChannel 13 suggest that Steadman may have harbored resentment following the recent awarding of custody of her grandchildren to their father—an emotional motive possibly adding to the tragedy’s complexity.

Autopsies by the Albany Medical Center revealed that one of the four children died from ‘fatal sharp-force injuries,’ Rabbitt said.

Toxicology reports are to be completed before final conclusions can be reached, he said.

Myers and her children also lived in the same building, part of the John S Moore Homes development, in a separate apartment, the outlet reported.

Police discovered their bodies at around 6.20pm on Tuesday after they had not been seen for several days.

‘The Mechanicville Police Department, in partnership with the New York State Police, remains committed to conducting a thorough and complete investigation while providing as much information as possible without compromising the integrity of that investigation,’ Rabbitt said.

‘Mechanicville is a close-knit city. Many residents knew the family involved, have children and grandchildren of their own, or simply cannot comprehend the loss of six lives under such heartbreaking circumstances.

‘Our thoughts remain with the family members, friends, neighbors, first responders and everyone affected by this tragedy.’

A resident in the apartment complex, Megan Reed, 38, told the Times Union that the grandmother lived in an apartment in the same building, and was ‘with [Myers] every single day to help her.’

She added: ‘Those kids don’t deserve this.’

Another neighbor told the outlet that the grandmother and mother were ‘inseparable’, and were ‘like best friends.’

Steadman’s Facebook profile shows that in 2022, she shared a GoFundMe for her daughter to ‘help get a domestic violence lawyer.’

The fundraiser, which has since been deleted, showed Myers with her children in matching outfits as they pleaded for support. ‘Please help my daughter and grandchildren,’ Steadman captioned her post at the time.

Police have assured residents that there is no further threat to the public, but with few details released about how the tragedy unfolded, locals say they have been left stunned by the family’s deaths.

Locals said the deaths came in the last days of the Mechanicville High School year, and on Wednesday morning several students in red caps and gowns were reportedly seen at the scene and kneeling.

Mechanicville Central School District Superintendent G. Michael Apostol said the district was providing counseling for its high school students to deal with the tragedy.

The Daily Mail reached out to the Mechanicville Police Department for comment.
