Unhoused Individual Detained Following Dispute Involving Fence Post Assault Near Encampment

0

In Gainesville, Florida, a heated dispute over a homeless encampment led to the arrest of 52-year-old Joseph Martin Turns Jr. Accused of striking another man with a fence post, Turns faces serious allegations following the altercation.

The incident unfolded around 4:35 p.m. on the 500 block of NE Waldo Road. Police officers from the Gainesville Police Department responded to the scene after reports of a confrontation. The argument reportedly centered around land ownership and the presence of a homeless encampment. Turns is alleged to have demanded that the other man vacate what he claimed was his property, to which the man refused.

Amid the escalating argument, Turns allegedly picked up a six-foot-long wooden fence post and hurled it towards the man, striking him in the face. The victim was left with multiple facial cuts as a result of the attack.

According to reports, a witness observed the assault and intervened to separate the two men, preventing the situation from potentially worsening. This incident highlights the tensions that can arise over property disputes, especially in areas where homeless encampments are present.

A witness reportedly saw Turns throw the fence post at the victim, and he ran over to separate the two men.

Post Miranda, Turns reportedly said his father gave him the land, and he had the right to defend his property. He said the victim pointed a gun at him before he threw the fence post, but he was unable to describe the gun except to say it was black.

The victim denied possessing a gun during the incident, and the witness said he never saw a gun.

Turns, whose address is listed as GRACE Marketplace, has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He has five felony convictions (non-violent) and three misdemeanor convictions (three violent), and he has a Notice to Appear on a charge of illegal possession of a shopping cart. Judge Joy Danne set bail at $5,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Trump Administration Intensifies Pressure on Judge Eleanor Ross

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has issued a stern ultimatum to a federal judge overseeing a lawsuit about Georgia’s voter rolls, demanding that she recuse herself by Wednesday evening. This demand comes in the wake of a growing scandal that has raised concerns about the judge’s impartiality.

In a succinct filing on Monday, the DOJ expressed frustration with U.S. District Judge Eleanor Ross for not ruling on a motion to disqualify herself by a previously set deadline of Friday. The DOJ has now established a firm deadline of 5 p.m. on Wednesday for her decision.

The DOJ’s filing argued that Judge Ross’s presence at a political event created an impression of bias, which necessitates her stepping down from the case. The event in question was related to the reelection campaign of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. This event was highlighted in a private reprimand directed at Judge Ross.

Fani Willis, a Democrat, had previously attempted to prosecute former President Donald Trump in a wide-ranging election interference case. Judge Ross, appointed by former President Barack Obama, is currently handling the DOJ’s lawsuit against Georgia’s Republican Secretary of State, Brad Raffensperger, concerning the release of a complete and unedited statewide voter registration list.

Willis was removed from the Trump case due to a significant appearance of impropriety, which effectively halted the prosecution. Now, the DOJ is intensifying its efforts to have Judge Ross disqualified, warning that it may seek the “drastic” and “extraordinary” step of mandamus relief from the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals if she does not recuse herself.

“For the reasons explained in the Motion for Emergency Ruling, any further delays in this lawsuit prejudice the United States. Accordingly, the United States plans to file a petition for a writ of mandamus,” the government said.

A writ of mandamus, if granted, would force Ross to make a decision, a process that has played out in other high-profile matters within the 11th Circuit.

In recent days, Ross has additionally faced scrutiny for “engaging in an extramarital affair with a high-ranking law enforcement officer and having sexual intercourse in the judge’s chambers during business hours within hearing distance of staff” and by “making false statements to the Chief Circuit Judge and Chief District Judge that were material to the investigation of the allegations.”

The officer was reportedly identified by Bloomberg Law as Atlanta Police Department Deputy Chief Kelley Collier; Ross is married to DeKalb County Judge Brian K. Ross, with whom she has two daughters.

Critics are also outraged that Ross’ identity was hidden by the judicial council in a private reprimand, leaving news organizations to do the legwork. Ross’ vague apology to clerks also sparked criticism, so much so that she issued a new and specific apology.

“I am writing to you for a second time to convey my deepest apologies for my harmful, offensive, and unprofessional behavior that made your clerkship an unpleasant experience. My initial letter was entirely deficient, as I did not take full accountability for my actions, and I failed to give you the apology that you deserve,” the do-over apology said, according to The New York Times. “I am profoundly sorry for exposing you to my inappropriate personal relationship during your clerkship, and for the harm that I have caused you. My actions were patently wrong, and there is no excuse. You deserved better than to have your experience marred by my own offensive conduct. I apologize for not affording you an opportunity to serve the public in a professional atmosphere where everyone was always treated with respect and courtesy. I also want to convey my deepest apologies to you for my false accusation against you. Again, I have no excuse and immensely regret my behavior.”

In her previous apology, Ross said: “Thank you for your contributions to our court during your clerkship. I convey my deepest apology for not taking steps to ensure that it was a more positive experience. I wish you all the best in your future legal endeavors and in life.”

Intervenors the Black Voters Matter Fund, represented by the law firm of Democratic Party election lawyer Marc Elias, have argued that the DOJ is engaged in a sideshow meant to distract from losses in “eight district courts.”

Iran Alleges Unfair World Cup Expulsion: A Deep Dive into Controversial Departure Claims

0

Iran has criticized their experience at the World Cup, describing it as ‘oppressive’ and ‘disastrous,’ with claims of being expelled from the United States immediately following their opening match on Monday night.

After a dramatic 2-2 draw against New Zealand in Los Angeles, striker Mehdi Taremi issued an appeal to FIFA, urging them to intervene and address what he called an ‘unfair’ situation at the World Cup.

Before the tournament began, an arrangement was made for Iran to travel to and from the U.S. for each of their group stage games, all of which are hosted in the country.

Since the conflict erupted in February, Iran’s World Cup participation has been shrouded in uncertainty.

Former President Donald Trump cautioned Iran against attending, citing concerns for their ‘own life and safety.’ The Iranian team subsequently relocated their base from Arizona to Mexico, and nearly a dozen team members faced visa denials.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino visited the Iran dressing room following the game and just minutes later, head coach Amir Ghalenoei and Taremi suggested the US authorities are forcing them to fly back to their Tijuana base – against their wishes.

‘Everything is like a disaster actually for us… still we have some problems because we are supposed to be training tomorrow morning – recovery – then leave for Tijuana,’ Taremi said.

‘But we have to leave Los Angeles right now, and it’s not good for us. It’s not good for the football, because in World Cup, you have to prepare good for the next game, because it is a lot of stress for the players and the staff and everyone. But we don’t have that support and I think FIFA have to help us more than this.’

Taremi claimed Iran’s players asked Infantino why they were being kicked out. When asked what the FIFA president told them in the dressing room, Taremi added: ‘He just wants to help us.

‘It’s the beginning of the World Cup now, and he will help us… we believe everything he says.’

Teammate Mohammad Mohebi said their treatment was not ‘fair’ and Ghalenoei echoed his players’ feelings, claiming: ‘They said we had to leave immediately.

‘It’s very important for us to have time for recovery and yet we were asked to return to Tijuana and we are really troubled by that… we do not know why they are returning us. I think it’s very strange.’

The head coach continued: ‘It seems like others are doing the planning for us, decisions made elsewhere, we were supposed [to arrive] two nights before the game and we were not permitted.

‘We were supposed to stay tonight and return tomorrow lunchtime but I have no idea why and they haven’t told [us]… our team is the most oppressed one in the whole World Cup.’

It is understood Infantino told the squad that he would do what he could to ensure more Iranian officials, who did not receive visas, could travel to the USA for their final two group games.

The tension comes as Trump announced this weekend that a deal to end the war with Iran is ‘all signed’.

The official signing ceremony is set to be held on June 19 in Switzerland.

In a post on Truth Social, the president said, ‘The deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete.’

‘I hereby fully authorize the toll free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and, simultaneously herewith, authorize the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade,’ he added.

Inside the locker room, Infantino had praised the team for their participation and hailed their actions as ‘sending a strong message to the world’.

He told them: ‘You showed to your families, friends, to your people, to the world, that you’re in the World Cup, that you perform and you have two more games to go.

‘In these two games, you will make again everyone in the world proud of what you do. Thank you for being here,’ he said, with his words met by applause.

Is Iran getting a fair deal at this World Cup?

Ahead of kickoff at SoFi Stadium, all but one of Iran’s players sang their national anthem

Ahead of kickoff at SoFi Stadium, all but one of Iran’s players sang their national anthem

‘It is also a big, big emotion. I know what you go through, I understand, but you are stronger than everything.

‘You send a strong message to the entire world. Like tonight you united the whole stadium here, you united the whole stadium behind you, behind Team Melli. You are sending such a strong message to the world.

‘Let me say one more thing: this is just the beginning of the World Cup. You are writing history, the whole world is watching you. Continue to play with your heart, for your people, your families, for your fans and for everyone in the world that is falling in love with Team Melli. You are stronger than everything.’

Iran jetted into Los Angeles the afternoon before Monday’s game and Taremi suggested the team faced delays at the US border.

‘We [should] come here two days before the game,’ Mohebi insisted. ‘Yesterday we came, we started the trip in the morning and we arrive in the afternoon.

‘Then we go to the training and we get tired. I think we’re supposed to come here two days before the game. This kind of thing is not a little bit fair. We need to get fair competition.’

Taremi was later asked if he had a message for President Trump. ‘I’m here to play football, my friend,’ he said. ‘We are tired to talk about [the problems].

‘And if they help us, we are much appreciated about that… if no one helps us, it doesn’t matter. We just stay back to back, behind each other and we try our best to win both the next games.’

Iran are due to return to the USA to face Belgium in LA on Sunday before they take on Egypt in Seattle.

Protestors took to the outside of the stadium during Iran’s first match, calling for change in Tehran and waving the pre-revolutionary lion-and-sun flag.

Earlier this year, the Iranian women’s football team faced controversy after their participation in the Asian Cup, where they refused to sing their country’s national anthem during a game with South Korea.

The situation escalated into a major diplomatic incident involving street protests and threats from the Islamic Regime, leading Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to grant several players asylum.

Tragic Loss: Close Friend of Pacers’ Tyrese Haliburton’s Fiancée Passes Away on St. Barts Bachelorette Trip Shortly After Turning 26

0

A bachelorette celebration in St. Barts turned tragic for Jade Jones, the fiancée of Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton, when one of her friends passed away shortly after her 26th birthday.

Jade Jones was on the Caribbean island enjoying pre-wedding festivities with close friends, celebrating her engagement to the two-time NBA All-Star. During the trip, on June 8, her friend Makenzi Kern unexpectedly suffered health complications and died, as reported by sources to TMZ.

According to the outlet, Kern’s family does not suspect any involvement of foul play, drugs, or alcohol in her passing.

The exact details surrounding Kern’s death have not been disclosed.

TMZ noted that Kern and Jones developed a close friendship while they were both cheerleaders at Iowa State University.

Jones posted several photos to Instagram on June 6, showing the group soaking up the sun on the beaches of St. Barts and enjoying a boat ride, with the caption “hopped on a flight to cloud 9.”

Kern had just turned 26 on the day the photos were posted — two days before her death.

Neither Haliburton nor Jones has publicly commented on the tragedy.

Kern’s family said that she died while “surrounded by her closest friends on a once in a lifetime trip to St. Barthelemy Island,” according to an online obituary.

“She loved boating with her dad, water skiing, and got to try out a seabob for the first time in St Barths. According to her friends, they had to drag her off because she loved it so much, evidence that she was having an amazing time,” her family wrote.

The 26-year-old Iowa native is remembered by her loved ones as someone who “lived life to the fullest” and “could brighten everyone’s spirits when she was around.”

Kern earned her bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Iowa State University in 2022 and was working as a Membership Director for a YMCA in Omaha at the time of her death.

“Kenz was dedicated to her job, her friends and her beloved pets; especially her cat Dusty. She never wanting to let anyone down or upset them,” her obituary said.

“So much so even as a child she would let all of the kids on the playground go down the slide first saying ‘you go first, I’ll get a turn later.’”

Kern is survived by her parents, stepparents, sister, stepsiblings, grandparents and her boyfriend.

Jones and Haliburton have been together for more than seven years, a relationship that began during his time as a guard for the Iowa State Cyclones.

Haliburton was drafted by the Sacramento Kings in 2020 before being traded to the Indiana Pacers in 2022.

The couple is expected to tie the knot on Aug. 1, according to an online wedding registry.

Aussie World Cup Ref Shaun Evans Exonerated: No Evidence of ‘White Power’ Gesture

0

In Brief

  • Australian referee Shaun Evans was filmed making an upside-down ‘OK’ symbol with his hand.
  • The gesture has been co-opted as a white power symbol.

An Australian referee recently found himself at the center of a controversy after being accused of making a gesture linked to white supremacy. This incident led to demands for his removal from the World Cup. However, FIFA has since cleared him of any wrongdoing.

The controversy erupted during the match between Germany and Curaçao when Shaun Evans, serving as a video assistant referee, was caught on camera in the VAR hub making an upside-down ‘OK’ sign with his fingers resting against his thigh. This gesture has been officially classified as a hate symbol by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), a New York-based organization dedicated to combating anti-Semitism and hate.

Despite its troubling connotations with some far-right groups, the gesture is also well-known as part of the “circle game.” This harmless prank involves someone displaying the sign below their waist. If someone else looks at it, they become subject to a playful punch on the shoulder.

In the world of sports where symbols and gestures are scrutinized closely, it remains critical to distinguish between malicious intent and innocent actions. The incident serves as a reminder of the heightened sensitivities in today’s cultural landscape.

The gesture was co-opted a decade ago as a signal of white power, with three remaining fingers said to resemble a ‘W’ and the index and thumb forming a ‘P’.

‘An involuntary, subconscious twitch’

Evans, a 38-year-old Victorian and experienced A-League Men’s referee, was one of the officials for Germany’s 7-1 win over Curaçao.

He has denied any deliberate intent and said he wasn’t aware of the gesture’s history.

“I would like to clarify that I did not intentionally make a hand gesture or symbol to communicate a message, affiliation, game or belief of any kind,” Evans said in a statement.

“The only explanation I can offer is that the movement was an involuntary, subconscious twitch, and I was unaware I had done it at the time. Images taken later during the match showed that I repeated this movement many times while holding a pen between my fingers.

“The coverage following this incident simply does not reflect who I am. Of course, I understand how the gesture has been interpreted, and I regret this.”

“However, I want to be very clear and categorically say that I did not knowingly or deliberately make the hand symbol suggested.

“Officiating at the World Cup is the biggest honour of my career and I look forward to supporting my colleagues for the rest of the tournament.”

Calls for Evans’ removal

The Fare network, a long-time partner of FIFA and European football body UEFA to monitor racist and discriminatory chants, flags and symbols at international games, had called for Evans to be removed from the tournament.

“Advice from our experts is that the gesture used clearly resembles an upside-down ‘OK’ hand symbol used as a white power symbol in global far-right circles,” Fare said in a statement.

“Clearly, this official should have no further role to play in this World Cup.”

FIFA, however, found he had not breached its disciplinary code.

“FIFA’s independent disciplinary committee can confirm that, after looking into the matter involving support video assistant referee Shaun Evans, it has found no evidence of breaches of the FIFA disciplinary code,” the game’s governing body said in a statement.

“The disciplinary committee has also taken note of Mr Evans’ statement.”

RHORI’s Rulla Pontarelli Discusses Current Marital Situation Amid Brian’s Legal Troubles and Affair Allegations Involving Potential Tell-All Book

Rulla Pontarelli has opened up about the current status of her marriage to Brian Pontarelli following the season finale of The Real Housewives of Rhode Island.

RHORI's Rulla Pontarelli Offers Marriage Update After Brian's Affair and Arrest, Admits to Experiencing "Trauma" as Jo-Ellen Claims Mistress Wants to Write Tell-All and Suspects Brian Will Cheat Again, Plus Kelsey Hints Marriage Isn't "as it Seems"

In the wake of Brian’s arrest for placing a tracker on her car and his alleged affair with Beth Walker, Rulla, 46, shared insights into their relationship’s status and acknowledged the “trauma” she endured due to his infidelity. Her fellow cast members also shared their thoughts on the situation.

“As of today, Brian and I are still together,” Rulla stated during the June 14 episode of the RHORI: After Show. “Honestly, we’re better than ever. It’s like we’ve reignited the spark we always had, but I’m proceeding with caution, taking it one day at a time. I’m approaching everything with a fresh perspective. Brian is now treating me as he always did, but with even more dedication. He’s fully committed to me, the kids, and our relationship. He’s actively going to church, repenting, and attending therapy. He’s really making an effort.”

When Rosie DiMare, 35, expressed that she couldn’t have forgiven Brian, 49, if she were in Rulla’s position, Rulla confessed that overcoming the affair’s aftermath has been “extremely difficult.”

After Rosie DiMare, 35, said she could never forgive Brian, 49, if she were in Rulla’s shoes, Rulla admitted that moving forward from the affair was “so hard.”

“Unless you’re in the shoes and you really like, lived the life and know the person, and have a family, and dissect the situation, it’s so easy to say something … it’s certainly not the place that I ever wanted to or expected to be. And the reason why I, like, made certain decisions to kind of continue on is just because of who I am and what I consider to be important, and just, knowing Brian the way I’ve known him all my life,” she reasoned. “That is all, you know, in the past. Major, major series of mistakes, but it’s definitely water well under the bridge, dead and buried, where it should be.”

In recent months, Rulla and Brian have had discussions about his decision to cheat, but he doesn’t seem to understand what led him down that path.

“I’m still trying to figure out how it even happened, and he really can’t even understand how. But unfortunately, it did, and he just says like, ‘I don’t know what happened to me, I can’t even explain it,’” she shared. “I said, ‘Well, you have to kind of dig deep to explain it to yourself,’ and he’s like, ‘I’m just so disgusted. I’m disgusted with myself. I can’t believe that I was even engaged or capable.’ He’s like, ‘There’s no reason why,’ he’s like, ‘it was almost like something I slipped into, and I couldn’t get out of it fast enough.’”

According to Rulla, she “just [knows]” that things are over between Brian and his other woman because she’s “all over it.”

Meanwhile, Ashley Iaconetti, 38, pointed out that he could never “get away with anything now.”

“Oh God, no,” Rulla agreed. “I think the looking over the shoulder will resonate with me for a long time. When you go through something like this, there’s trauma. There’s a lot of trauma that you have to overcome. You know, I still have healing, and that’ll be sort of like a long road ahead.”

In her own segment, Jo-Ellen Tiberi, 38, revealed shocking news in regard to the mistress’s supposed plan to write a book.

“The mistress is wanting to write a tell-all book at this point. You think I’m against that? Tell your truth, girlfriend,” she declared. “But truthfully, she was in love because of a degenerate, small little pr*ck.”

Jo-Ellen went on to suspect that Brian would cheat again.

“I think this affair with this woman might be in the past, but there will be a new one, just like there was the last marriage,” she noted.

Elsewhere, Liz McGraw, 55, and Kelsey Swanson, 32, advised Rulla to get back at Brian with her own affair, as Liz admitted that the couple seemed “really good,” but Kelsey hinted at otherwise.

“Nothing is ever as it seems,” Kelsey stated.

The Real Housewives of Rhode Island season one reunion begins this Sunday, June 21, at 9/8c on Bravo.

California Governor Gavin Newsom Announces Department of Justice Investigation Involving Himself and First Partner

0

California Governor Gavin Newsom released a video on X, revealing that the U.S. Department of Justice has initiated an investigation involving him and his wife. Newsom suggested that former President Donald Trump is targeting him due to his potential presidential aspirations.

In the nearly five-minute clip, Newsom did not elaborate on the specifics of the alleged inquiry but mentioned that his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, is a focal point.

“Recently, federal agents have approached my family, friends, and former staff,” Newsom stated. “Their aim isn’t to address a discovered crime, but to unearth one.”

Newsom further alleged, “They’re demanding records, misusing the grand jury process, and scouring through countless documents.” He asserted that Trump’s motivation goes beyond mere social media spats, and is tied to his potential presidential run and his repeated public criticisms of Trump.

He emphasized that both he and his wife have nothing to conceal, while accusing Trump of engaging in corrupt practices.

“If they can’t intimidate me, they’ll go after the mother of our children. Donald Trump picked the wrong target. We have nothing to hide. His political operatives can take every record and read every page, but they’ll be looking in the wrong place. Because if they really want to find corruption, look no further than 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue,” Newsom said.

Newsom later added, “To Donald Trump, who I know is watching because he watches everything, I have a message for you. You can subpoena my records, you can investigate me, you could harass me, put my name on every and any enemies list you have, but leave my wife and family out of your personal vendetta.”

Trump has previously called for Newsom’s arrest, namely during the deployment of federal soldiers into Los Angeles last year. At the time, Border Czar Tom Homan refused to rule out arresting state and local officials if they obstruct immigration operations, prompting Newsom to tell Homan to come and arrest him.

“Gavin likes the publicity, but I think it would be a great thing,” Trump said in June, reacting to the comments. Trump later said that the crime Newsom committed was “running for governor because he’s done such a bad job.”

The White House deferred to the Department of Justice for comment. ABC News has reached out to the Department of Justice.

Sources familiar with the matter tell ABC News that the investigation is examining Jennifer Seibel Newsom’s taxes.

In a press call with reporters on Monday, the governor’s office said it believes subpoenas have been issued to financial institutions to get records of the state’s First Lady.

Jennifer Seibel Newsom told KGO-TV in the Bay Area, “There are clearly no boundaries to what Donald Trump will do to get his way or to challenge those who get in his way. This is not presidential behavior, and the Governor and I will continue to speak truth to power because the American people deserve so much more.”

ABC News reached out to the Justice Department, but its spokesperson declined to comment. Acting Attorney General and President Trump’s former personal attorney, Todd Blanche, was also asked about the potential investigation on Monday, but he said he was not commenting.

Many Democrats commented on the investigation. California Senator Adam Schiff posted on X, “The President’s abuse of the Justice Department continues, with new targets every day. The Governor won’t be silenced. Nor will my Senate colleagues. Nor will I. In the face of vindictive and baseless investigations, we are defiant and unbowed.”

Long Beach Congressman Robert Garcia posted, “Donald Trump is the most corrupt person to ever serve as President. His former personal lawyer now runs the DOJ.”

ABC News’ Oren Oppenheim, Alexander Mallin, and Nicholas Kerr contributed to this report.

Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau Share a Moment During Picnic Date

0

Katy Perry’s relationship with Justin Trudeau has brought a sense of stability to her life, as she has openly acknowledged.

This newfound calmness was on full display when the couple was spotted sharing affectionate moments during a picnic in Santa Barbara, California, on Saturday.

The 41-year-old pop sensation, known for her hit “Dark Horse,” was seen warmly embracing the former Canadian Prime Minister as they exchanged smiles and gentle kisses.

Earlier, the pair picked up some lunch in Perry’s classic Moke vehicle before making their way to a scenic park. There, they kicked back on a red-checkered blanket, savoring the peaceful surroundings.

Following their red carpet debut last week at the New York City premiere of Perry’s concert film, the pair continued to display their affection openly, with remnants of their picnic spread nearby.

They were also joined by the singer’s mother, Mary, and Perry’s daughter, Daisy Dove, five, whom she shares with ex-fiance Orlando Bloom, plus another child who appeared to be the former politician’s younger son, Hadrien, 12, with estranged wife Sophie Gregoire Trudeau.

Even so, the lovebirds managed to steal some alone time, looking very much in their own world.

At one point, Trudeau lay on his back grinning while Perry leaned in for another kiss.

Perry was dressed casually in a white top with striped linen trousers along with flip flops that she later kicked off. She arrived wearing a hat, but later removed that, too, showing her dark hair that she’d tied back in a knot.

Trudeau wore an olive-green T-shirt and navy cargo shorts and, like Perry, went barefoot in the grass.

It wasn’t all about them, as Perry and Trudeau spent time with their families at the playground.

The sighting comes just days after Perry hailed Trudeau as the ‘love of my life’.

Perry – who was previously married to Russell Brand and ended her long-term relationship with Bloom in June of last year – made her red carpet debut with Trudeau at the New York City premiere of the Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour concert film on June 8.

And she couldn’t help but gush over their romance and the stability Trudeau has brought to her life.

‘I am very in love. Actually, that show was after I met the love of my life, and so I felt very anchored by that,’ Perry told People.

‘Because I’m a little bit like a rainbow kite. I fly super high and like, you know, touch the veil, cosmos, and sometimes I need to be anchored. So, to have that anchor finally makes me feel really whole now.’

The star couldn’t be happier with the way her life is now.

‘Every day is a fantastic journey, and every day is a chance to evolve, and to be a better person and do the right thing and to be a model for your community, for your family, for your world.

‘I feel like a more grounded person in so many aspects of my life,’ she added.

Perry reflected on how 2025 – the year her engagement to Bloom ended – was ‘one of the hardest’ periods of her life.

‘I went through a f*** ton, and there were days that were really, really, really, really hard,’ she recalled.

‘And I just kept going ’cause I made a promise to my fans. I made a promise to my daughter. I made a promise to myself. And I got through it.

‘I walked through the fire because everybody has to walk through their own fire, and if you’re walking through hell, you keep going because on the other side of hell is definitely heaven.’

Perry, who has served as a Unicef Goodwill Ambassador since 2013, noted she has embraced life in her 40s.

‘I’m different now. Your 20s are for emotions. Your 30s are for sorting them, and your 40s are for f****** not caring about those emotions and turning them into gasoline – finally transmuting all those emotions into a creative something.

‘We’re all human here and it doesn’t matter. It’s like sadness doesn’t discriminate, grief does not discriminate, pain does not discriminate – everybody is subjected to it in their own ways.’

Meanwhile, Perry revealed she wants her daughter, Daisy Dove, to grow up to be ‘a better version’ of herself.

She was happy to take her little girl on the road with her for her recent Lifetimes tour because she is proud to be an example of a ‘strong’ woman.

‘It’s always incredible when I get to bring my daughter to work,’ she told the outlet.

‘I think when mothers can be their most supported, authentic selves, that is always a good template for children to model. And I’m just glad to model a strong, steady, intelligent, funny, weird woman for my beautiful daughter.’

‘I think, as mothers and fathers, we’re just modelling something for our children, and all we can hope for is that they will grow up into better versions of ourselves – and themselves.

‘I think if I’m out there living my most authentic, free, supported, empowered, smart, sexy life, and she’s going to have a pattern to follow, a model to follow.’

Her career highlights include officiating at the 2023 Women’s World Cup and taking charge of the bronze-medal match between Egypt and Morocco at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, held at La Beaujoire Stadium in Nantes.

In a landmark moment in 2024, Katia broke a two-decade barrier by becoming the first woman in over 20 years to referee a Liga MX men’s match, a significant encounter between Pachuca and Querétaro. Her outstanding skills and decisions on the field did not go unnoticed, as the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS) ranked her as the sixth-best referee globally in both 2024 and 2025, recognizing her as the top referee in the Concacaf region.

Katia’s expertise was further showcased when she officiated the 2026 FIFA Women’s Champions Cup final, a thrilling match between Arsenal Women FC and SC Corinthians, held at Arsenal Stadium in London on February 1, 2026. This event highlighted her capacity to handle high-stakes matches with aplomb.

FIFA World Cup 2026

In a historic achievement, Katia Itzel García was selected by FIFA to serve as one of the lead referees for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking her as the first Mexican female referee to officiate at a men’s World Cup. She shares this groundbreaking role with Tori Penso from the United States, who will be the first American woman to lead as a referee in a men’s FIFA World Cup.

Joining Garcia and Penso are Assistant Referees Brooke Mayo and Kathryn Nesbitt from the United States, Sandra Ramirez from Mexico, and Video Match Official Tatiana Guzman from Nicaragua. Together, these six officials represent Concacaf, showcasing the region’s growing influence and representation in the world of international football officiating.

“I can only feel great joy at being the first Mexican female referee to officiate a men’s World Cup match,” said Garcia in an interview with Gaceta UNAM. “I feel gratitude—first to my family, who helped me reach this moment, and also to the female referees who paved the way before me; because it isn’t just about me—there are many others who pushed so that my teammates and I could be where we are today.”

The 2026 tournament will be the largest FIFA World Cup in history, featuring 48 teams and 104 matches across Canada, the United States, and Mexico. Garcia and Penso will not only take charge of matches on soccer’s biggest stage but also serve as trailblazers for future generations of referees throughout Concacaf and beyond.

Heartbreaking Disruption: Ore Oduba’s Son Faces Emotional Struggles Amid School Change Due to Parents’ Divorce

Ore Oduba, celebrated for his victory on Strictly Come Dancing, is navigating a challenging period in his personal life as his son has had to change schools unexpectedly. This development comes in the wake of his divorce from Portia Jett.

The couple, who had been married for nine years, announced their separation in 2024. Ore, now 40, and Portia, a former television researcher aged 36, have decided to go their separate ways.

Amid this family transition, Portia shared a poignant moment with their eight-year-old son, Roman. On Monday, she posted a heartfelt photo of herself hugging Roman as he embarked on his first day at a new school.

In a show of support, Portia expressed her admiration for Roman’s resilience during such turbulent times. “I haven’t got this, but you have,” she wrote. “First day at a new school and I couldn’t be prouder of how he’s handled all the changes. Let’s do this.”

Later, she shared more candidly about the emotional toll of the day. She revealed to her followers that dropping Roman off was particularly tough, admitting, “Just dropped him off. He got really upset.”

‘God as a parent nothing prepares you for holding it together, smiling, being strong, supportive and saying all the right things whilst all you want to do is cry too.’

‘I know it’s just first day nerves and of course anything new is scary.. but I know he has got this.’

In an evening update, Portia said she was ‘so relieved’ after picking up her son and hearing about his first day.

‘I’d been feeling anxious all day but he had a good first day… his teacher said he was a little shy but made friends and did really well. So I’m happy.. tomorrow we go again,’ she wrote.

Following their split Ore and Portia sold their Kent family home, which they bought in 2022, with Portia admitting that their children Roman and daughter Genie, four, were left heartbroken by the decision.

‘I told the children that we are selling the house,’ Portia told her social media followers in March. ‘It’s hard, especially for Roman, to have these conversations. He’s really upset.

‘I wanted to let the kids know, I tried to explain why. It’s gutting, and I’ve known for a while.’

In a recent interview Ore admitted he has lost thousands of pounds to his 30-year porn addiction.

The former Strictly Come Dancing winner opened up about his ‘life destroying’ porn addiction late last year.

Ore has said that the addiction, which started when he was just nine years old after he was shown adult images, left him on the brink of ending his own life and he wanted to speak out now to highlight the issue of children seeing sexual imagery on social media.

He has now confessed ‘I’ve spent thousands on pornography’ in an interview about his financial successes and failures.

The former CBeebies presenter became a household name after he lifted the Strictly Come Dancing glitterball trophy in the show’s most-watched final ever in 2016.

Since then, he’s branched out into a successful Musical Theatre career, starring as Caractacus Potts in the UK tour of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang among other shows, in recent months.

But his career choices, alongside his porn addiction, has led to periods of financial instability.

Around the same time as his Strictly stint the star switched from being employed by the BBC to being self-employed, and he explained to The Sunday Times that ‘I’ve always wanted to live within my means but I do feel Strictly gave me a false sense of stability’.

Ore has admitted he’s unsure if he will ever buy another house after selling the family home this year. ‘Having been a property owner, some of the information I’m reading is making me wonder if property ownership is as efficient an investment as I’d been led to believe,’ he told The Sunday Times.

‘A lot of my life has followed the path of what was meant to happen, what I thought were acceptable and traditional means and methods.

‘But essentially, just because I’ve sold a house doesn’t necessarily mean I need to buy another one – I’m continuing to look for investment avenues that will work for me better.

‘In terms of property, honestly, sometimes I’m all but ready to buy a motorhome and get a dog. Home for me is way beyond bricks and mortar.’

Former TV researcher Portia has recently started a new career, qualifying as a personal trainer and shares regular updates about her new relationship and family life with her 51k Instagram followers.
