Tearful Moment: LA Mayoral Candidate Reflects on Election Night Uncertainty

0

Nithya Raman, a progressive candidate in the Los Angeles mayoral race, was moved to tears as preliminary election results showed her in a distant third place.

On Tuesday night, Raman became emotional on stage while expressing gratitude to her children. She emphasized that her campaign was dedicated to creating a city they could be proud of.

Despite trying to remain optimistic as many votes were still uncounted, Raman found herself trailing behind incumbent Mayor Karen Bass and reality TV personality Spencer Pratt.

Initially a strong contender, Raman’s support waned as she advocated for progressive policies such as tax increases, upholding Los Angeles’ status as a ‘Sanctuary City,’ and opposing restrictions on homeless encampments near schools.

As of Wednesday morning, with 63.1 percent of the votes tallied, Bass was leading with 34.8 percent, followed by Pratt with 30.4 percent, while Raman was at 22.3 percent.

The election will now head to a run-off between the top two candidates in November as no candidate can reach 50 percent, and Bass’s total was enough to secure her place in the run-off election.

Raman would need a significant surge in late mail-in ballots to surpass Pratt and join the run-off, a fate that she appeared to acknowledge as she grew emotional in front of her supporters on Tuesday night.

She broke down in tears as she thanked her two young children, and said she had ‘been a candidate for something as long as you can remember.’

‘I hope you know, that everything every person in this room is fighting for in this campaign, has been about building a city that is worthy of you, and every child in this city.’

While Raman sits in third place and is over 40,000 votes behind at the time of writing, the final results could still change due to California’s widespread use of mail-in ballots as many Democratic-leaning votes are expected to come in.

As Pratt maintained second place, he sent an opening shot at Bass in anticipation of their run-off election campaign over the summer.

‘She knows it’s on,’ Pratt told reporters Tuesday night outside the Mexican restaurant where he was throwing a private election watch party.

‘I hope she’s ready. I literally could not be more excited.’

He said he was ‘confident’ he could win over Bass’s supporters – however he faces an uphill climb in a city where Democrats outnumber Republicans three to one, and are likely to coalesce around the incumbent.

The ex-The Hills star was initially seen as a longshot candidate when he launched his campaign in January, but Pratt gained traction in the home stretch thanks to a media blitz and a breakout debate against Bass and Raman.

In his remarks on Tuesday night, Pratt challenged Bass to meet him again on the debate stage, saying: ‘We can do debates on every Friday if she would like.’

Pratt won praise for his brash campaign style, focusing much of his ire on Bass and her tenure as mayor since 2022.

He has repeatedly accused her of mismanaging the city’s response to the Palisades Wildfires in January 2025, including claiming in their live TV debate that she ‘burned my house down.’

Pratt has also vowed to crack down on LA’s widespread social decay, and recently unveiled plans to implement a three-week ‘grace period’ to warn criminals, drug users and homeless people to leave the city before he takes action.

He promised voters that if he is elected, there would be ‘no more nakedness, no more drug use, no more robbing, no worse, no more dog abuse’, and suggested that his mayoralty will begin with a brief reprieve for criminals to leave the city to avoid jail.

He says that his team will then go around and warn everyone that: ‘You got three more weeks of this, clock’s ticking.’

Pratt appeared to believe he had done enough to secure a place in the run-off election on Tuesday night, as he gave a triumphant message and said he was looking forward to battling Bass over the summer.

I’m an Angeleno who said, ‘Enough is enough,’ and I had to step up,’ he said. ‘I’m going to show everybody that I’m their mayor.’

In remarks after coming out on top on Tuesday night, Bass warned that she believes Pratt is too inexperienced to lead the city.

‘I don’t think he has a clue,’ Bass told KABC.

The incumbent mayor also appeared to acknowledge that difficulties during her tenure gave Pratt a window to launch his campaign, saying that he’d been ‘tapping into the anger and frustration that people have.’

Bass followed Pratt in saying she would focus her next term as mayor on LA’s homelessness crisis, saying she had began constructing affordable housing units and introducing public safety initiatives.

‘We can have the city that we know we all deserve,’ she said Tuesday as the results rolled in.

‘We’re going to build a city where parents and kids do not have to navigate tents because in the nation’s second-largest city, there should never be anybody that is sleeping on our streets.

‘We are a city that can deal with this, and we have been doing it, and we are going to continue.’

Lawrence Dallaglio’s Lavish Lifestyle Under Scrutiny: £200K Spree Amid Bankruptcy and Unpaid Divorce Settlement

Former England rugby icon Lawrence Dallaglio is reportedly facing allegations of extravagant spending despite being declared bankrupt. The 2003 World Cup champion encountered financial turmoil following his divorce from his wife of nearly two decades, Alice.

Last year, Dallaglio was officially declared bankrupt, a situation that led to the sale of the family home for £2.4 million in May. Originally, the property was listed for £3.3 million several months prior, highlighting the financial challenges he faced.

In England and Wales, bankruptcy typically comes with a set of restrictions lasting 12 months. However, these restrictions can be extended by judicial decision. In Dallaglio’s case, a judge extended his bankruptcy restrictions for an additional three months, up until August 7.

According to a report by The Telegraph, despite the ongoing bankruptcy proceedings, Dallaglio is accused of maintaining a lavish lifestyle, allegedly spending in a manner that leaves ‘nothing’ available to settle his debts.

And now, according to The Telegraph, despite his position, Dallaglio is accused of continuing to spend heavily and leaving ‘nothing’ to pay his debts.

The report claims that each month the ‘excessive spending’ incorporated £1,000 on clothing and footwear, the same amount on travel and transport, £800 on groceries and £500 on alcohol.

It was also claimed that Dallaglio earned around £200,000 between August and January, yet spent it all, without leaving any to pay tax or his divorce settlement to his ex-wife.

Across that period, Dallaglio worked as a rugby pundit on Premier Sports and was a columnist for The Sunday Times.

In High Court documents obtained by The Telegraph, trustees of Dallaglio’s bankruptcy also accused him of being ‘largely uncooperative’, with one of them alleging there was ‘evidence of an undisclosed bank account’.

Those claims were made after his bankruptcy was extended by three months following an application by Nick Parsk, a joint-trustee. Parsk had been looking to implement an Income Payments Order (IPO) against Dallaglio.

An IPO is a court directive requiring a bankrupt person to pay a portion of their surplus income to their trustee to help repay creditors.

Dallaglio has previously accused Parsk of providing ‘an incomplete picture’ in terms of how he has cooperated.

In what is known as a ‘skeleton argument’ filed at the High Court, Parsk had similarly claimed Dallaglio ‘cancelled several appointments at which his rugby career memorabilia was to be valued’, while the information he was providing about his income and spending came ‘sporadically and unclearly’ as well as ‘late and incompletely’.

The application continued: ‘Mr Dallaglio’s spending habits mean that there is currently nothing left over to go towards the claims against his bankruptcy estate.

‘There are no signs of Mr Dallaglio voluntarily reducing his spending – see the figures supplied earlier this year, where expected income decreased but intended expenditure did not.

‘Furthermore, it was only at this time that it came to the applicant’s attention that all earnings in the period 01.08.25 to 31.01.26 have been spent without savings for tax.’

Dallaglio rejected many of these claims in his witness statement, insisting he had ‘made significant efforts’ to collaborate with the trustee and ‘never sought to frustrate or evade’ the application for an extension to his bankruptcy.

He also insisted that he did not conceal assets and added that his level of engagement was impacted by his late father’s death at the end of last year, before which he served as his ‘primary carer’ – and then ‘effectively handed over my entire inheritance to the bankruptcy estate’.

Dallaglio’s lawyer, Sanjeev Punj of SP Legal Solutions, told Telegraph Sport: ‘The trustee’s skeleton argument contains a number of allegations which are strongly disputed by Mr Dallaglio and not accepted.’

Documents published in December revealed Dallaglio owed a further £423,570 in overdrawn director’s loans for his failed sports company Lawrence Dallaglio Ltd.

Dallaglio, who spent all of his club career with Wasps, also owed more than £60,000 to liquidators – more than two years after they were appointed.

There have also been claims totalling about £350,000 and £61,000 by HM Revenue & Customs and two other creditors.

Royal Navy Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing in Devon Field Near Two MoD Bases

0

A Royal Navy helicopter crashed in Devon during the early hours today, causing a loud explosion that residents reported shook their windows.

Striking images from the scene at Sourton Down, near Okehampton, depict debris strewn across a field. Emergency services, including the fire department and officers from Devon and Cornwall Police, responded to the incident around 4 a.m.

Details about the number of passengers on board and the extent of any injuries remain unclear. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer addressed the incident in Parliament, expressing concern over the situation. “This is a deeply worrying time for the families involved,” he stated, assuring that more information would be provided as it becomes available.

During Prime Minister’s Questions, Sir Keir acknowledged the crash, emphasizing the anxiety it has caused for the families and promising further updates soon.

The site of the crash – which shut several roads including the A30 – is between the Royal Navy’s air bases at Yeovilton in Somerset and Culdrose in Cornwall.

It is also close to Okehampton battle camp, a military facility on the edge of Dartmoor used for training Merlin helicopter crews from the Commando Helicopter Force.

Residents who live nearby claimed to have heard a ‘loud explosion’ at about 3.15am. One local told the Daily Mail: ‘Two helicopters last night flew so close to my house that the windows shook and my children were woken by it.

‘Others in the village were also disturbed by it. We semi-regularly have these flights but nothing has been as close or loud or dangerous feeling as last night.’

Another claimed to have heard a chopper ‘flying very low’. Several road closures were in place around the A386 and A30 Sourton Cross slip and services area.

Witness Eddie Amhof told ITV: ‘By the time I got out of bed and got to the window it sort of moved away a little bit, say half a mile, then all of a sudden no noise at all.

‘The engines was gone and I thought to myself, well that wasn’t long enough for him to disappear out of ear-sight. So the next thing at the same time as the engines went on it, there was this almighty flash of red which lit up the sky.

‘So I assumed from that, worked out obviously that he’d hit the ground. About five to six minutes after that, there was a big bang, an explosion.’

BBC reporter Richard Green told Radio Devon that witnesses claimed to have heard noises sounding like ‘troubled mechanics’ as a helicopter flew over.

He said: ‘A witness I spoke to described it as sounding not right as it flew over his house and it almost took the roof of his house off. He said it sounded like it was clearly in trouble and it sounded like it was mechanically failing.’

The Ministry of Defence did not name the helicopter type, but drone pictures taken at the scene showed the distinctive tail rotor of a Merlin.

The model has a generally good safety record, although in 2024 a Merlin Mk4 ditched while operating from HMS Queen Elizabeth off Dorset with the loss of the pilot.

Merlins have served with the Navy since 2000 and are operated by the Fleet Air Arm, the Navy’s flying part. They are used in anti-submarine and troop-carrying missions.

A Merlin usually flies with a crew of three or four, depending on the mission, and the type of helicopter has seen active service in Afghanistan.

The specific helicopter involved is thought to be an Agusta Westland Merlin. This model can carry up to three crew and 24 fully-laden troops.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: ‘Police were notified at approximately 3.45am this morning, June 3, following reports of a crash involving a Royal Navy helicopter in a field at Sourton Down, near Okehampton in Devon.

‘The incident resulted in a multi-agency response with emergency services still on scene. The Ministry of Defence are also in attendance.

‘Several road closures remain in place in the area, including around the A386 and at the A30 Sourton Cross slip road and services area. Motorists are advised to avoid the area where possible and seek alternative routes. Our enquiries remain ongoing at the scene.’

A Ministry of Defence spokesman said: ‘An incident occurred involving a Royal Navy helicopter just before 4am on June 3 near Sourton, Devon. An investigation is underway and it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.’

And a Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service statement said: ‘Seven fire appliances from six stations, including one from Cornwall, were mobilised to an incident involving a military helicopter at Sourton Down in the early hours of this morning.

‘Crews worked to extinguish the fire in the field adjacent to the A30 and supported the wider multi-agency response. Several specialist resources were also deployed, including an Environmental Protection Unit, Welfare Unit, Command Unit and an Urban Search and Rescue team. One appliance remains at the scene.’

The Mail has also contacted South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust for a statement on the incident.

NBC Pulls the Plug: Discover the Latest TV Show Cancellations, Including a ‘Law and Order’ Spinoff

NBC has made headlines by cancelling a number of beloved shows, including a Law & Order spinoff and some popular daytime programs.

Back in May 2025, the network surprised viewers by axing shows like Lopez vs. Lopez, Night Court, Found, The Irrational, and Suits LA. Although NBC later decided to renew The Hunting Party and Brilliant Minds, these were the only new series to make the cut, leaving Grosse Pointe Garden Society out in the cold after much speculation.

The extensive cancellations follow NBC’s recent 11-year agreement with the NBA. Valued at nearly $2.5 billion annually, this deal allows the network to broadcast up to 100 regular-season games, impacting the slate of original programming available in the fall lineup.

Amid adding several new shows for the 2025-2026 season, NBC still made significant cuts, including dropping Law & Order: Organized Crime. The show saw Chris Meloni returning as Elliot Stabler, a role he originally left in Law & Order: SVU.

Does Chris Meloni's NFL Series Mean 'Law and Order' Spinoff Is Canceled?

The year 2026 has been tough for TV fans facing a wave of cancellations. For instance, Netflix discontinued Boots just two months after it debuted. The series, inspired by Greg Cope White’s memoir, depicted Cameron (played by Miles Heizer) joining the U.S. Marine Corps in the 1990s alongside his best friend Ray (Liam Oh).

Law & Order: Organized Crime, which premiered in 2021, went through quite a few shakeups with Matt Olmstead originally taking on the role of showrunner but ultimately stepping down later that year. He was replaced by Ilene Chaiken, who remained on the show for one season before Barry O’Brien took over.

Bryan Goluboff became the showrunner for season 3 but left after three months. He was replaced by Sean Jablonski, who left due to “creative differences” and David Graziano took over for the final episodes of the season.

NBC renewed the series for a fourth season with John Shiban as showrunner. He later departed during production of the fifth season, which marked the sixth change in showrunners over the show’s five seasons. NBC confirmed in April 2026 that the series had been canceled.

Lee Andrews’ Release from Jail Remains Unlikely in the Near Future

Lee Andrews, husband of Katie Price, will remain incarcerated for the foreseeable future even though his release was anticipated earlier this week. The unexpected turn of events has left Katie, aged 48, grappling with disappointment as she had traveled to Dubai with hopes of reuniting with him.

In the wake of these developments, Katie took to Instagram on Wednesday, posting a mysterious message about unforeseen heartbreak and loss. This cryptic update came after her trip, signaling the emotional toll of the situation.

An unnamed source revealed to the Daily Mail that Katie plans to visit Lee at Al Awir prison on Wednesday in an attempt to speak with him. Despite her efforts, his release seems improbable at this juncture, prolonging his stay behind bars.

Lee has been held at Al Awir for several weeks now, stemming from a ‘private civil matter’ rather than the espionage accusation he previously mentioned. Throughout this ordeal, Katie has continued to wear her diamond engagement ring, a symbol of her commitment amidst uncertainty.

Expressing her emotional turmoil on Tuesday, Katie shared on her social media story: “Behind every strong woman is a story that changed her. A heartbreak she didn’t see coming. A loss she never wanted. A battle she never asked to fight.” This poignant reflection underscores the personal challenges she faces as she navigates this unexpected chapter in her life.

‘She didn’t become strong because it was easy, she became strong because she had no other choice.

‘And now? That strength is her power. Her resilience is her weapon. Her faith is her anchor. She may carry scars, but those scars shine as proof that she made it through.’

She continued: ‘Strong women aren’t born, they’re built in the fire. And if you see one standing tall, know this: she carries a story of survival that turned into strength.’

Katie was spotted at London Gatwick airport on Monday when she flew to Dubai to reunite with Lee who has yet to be seen in weeks.

On Tuesday, Lee mysteriously re-followed Katie after unfollowing her on Instagram, but other than that, he has remained silent on social media.

However despite recent events, Katie seened set on reuniting with Lee and was seen wheeling a huge pink suitcase alongside videographer and photographer Ben Algar who will no doubt be capturing the reunion on camera.

Katie said on her podcast last Thursday ‘when [Lee] gets out, I’m going to ask him about all of it because everything needs an explanation. There’s so much speculation about you, it’s about time yoiu actually do a sit-down video interview, because I think the public deserve it.’

The star was seen still wearing her huge diamond wedding ring as she continued to show her commitment to Lee after they tied the knot in January, less than a week into knowing one another.

What’s the biggest red flag in this story: the prison stint, the missing fortnight, or the unanswered questions?

Lee made contact with his wife in what she says was a two-minute phone call from inside the jail.

A source told Daily Mail: ‘Katie has gone to Dubai to have it out with Lee. She took the 2.35pm flight from Gatwick yesterday.

‘Katie feels let down and she’s been lied to on several points and been made to look stupid in front of family and friends. Not to mention the world on social media.

‘She’s being shown things on a daily basis about him and showing he’s a possible fraud. She doesn’t want to admit defeat and call it a day on their marriage.’

Last week, Katie had lost access to her Instagram account after it was banned, but returned to the social media platform on Monday.

The platform temporarily removed her account, but she and her 2.6 million followers have all been reinstated, but Lee was no longer a follower until Tuesday, when he started following her again.

The former glamour model’s profile was taken down just hours after she claimed she and husband Lee had finally spoken, which added yet more confusion to the saga.

Sources later revealed it would be back up soon after a misunderstanding with Meta following complaints concerning nudity and her ‘flashing her breasts’, as well as the promotion of CBD gummies.

An insider claimed at the time: ‘Katie is furious. It’s absolutely ridiculous that she’s had her account deactivated after spending years building it up and gaining over two and a half million followers.

‘She was previously told it would be back up and running and now they’re saying she might have to start from scratch and have a brand new account with zero followers.’

The source told The Sun: ‘It feels like small-minded trolls complaining for the sake of it and Katie’s efforts to stay connected with all her fans is suffering as a consequence.’

The Daily Mail was the first to reveal that Lee was in prison last weekend.

Katie had been beset with worry after the so-called businessman went missing two weeks ago, but on Wednesday she confirmed she’d finally spoken to him after he called her from a prison in Dubai. Her Instagram then vanished on Thursday.

In a chat on her podcast The Katie Price Show released last Thursday, Katie detailed her two-minute phone call with Lee – after he was thought ‘missing’ for two weeks – and attempted to explain some of the things that didn’t add up from the time he was gone.

Firstly, last week it had been reported that his phone had been ‘turned back on’ during his disappearance after he ‘went dark’ amid being detained.

He appeared to still be active on social media, and claims at the time suggested that he had been using his mobile phone.

A source claimed that one of Lee’s phones had been turned back on Sunday morning.

But Katie has now claimed that it is the people who are ‘interrogating’ Lee in prison who were using his phone.

She said: ‘I did ask him about the phone situation. He hasn’t been on his phone – he’s been interrogated and they’ve been on his phone. So they’ve been mucking around on his phone – it wasn’t Lee.’

She then also spoke about how she’d asked him about rumours that he had followed another woman online during his time missing, saying: ‘What happened with the woman was she activated her account and she followed him or he followed her.

‘But then she blocked him. They’ve never exchanged messages. But I did ask him “apparently you’ve followed another woman!…”‘

Brittney Griner’s Controversial Flagrant Foul Sparks Debate After Collision with Angel Reese on Court

0

Angel Reese rarely finds herself outmaneuvered in a rebound contest, but Tuesday night brought an exception.

During the Dream’s 91-75 win, Reese hit the floor after an altercation with Brittney Griner of the Sun, leading to Griner receiving a flagrant foul early in the final quarter.

Griner appeared taken aback, raising her hands in disbelief as Reese tumbled to the court during their skirmish.

With Atlanta clinging to a narrow 68-65 lead and less than eight minutes on the clock, Reese and Griner were locked in a battle near the basket, each vying for the prime rebounding spot.

Positioned to Reese’s left, Griner’s and Reese’s arms tangled as they turned toward the hoop.

The duo rotated with their arms locked to the point that Reese faced the basket while Griner had her back to the hoop, which led to an awkward scenario when one moment later Reese attempted to run toward the loose ball in the paint while Griner’s arm held her back.

Reese then suddennly lost her balance, throwing her hands up in the air while sliding the floor in a mannerism that perhaps leads to questions of whether she flopped.

Griner stood over Reese moments later while expressing surprise, although she extended a hand to her foe to help her up.

The referees reviewed the play and ultimately awarded a flagrant foul, with Reese hitting one of two free throws to grow the lead to four points.

Reese ultimately tallied another double-double with 12 rebounds and 13 points to help the Dream improve to 6-2, while Griner had seven points and four rebounds in a loss that dropped the Sun to 2-9.

Dream coach Karl Smesko credited Reese for having a “big” fourth quarter, and credited her for making a crucial 3-pointer in the third to cut Connecticut’s lead to 65-64.

“I did think it was a momentum changer,” Smesko said of the 3. “Crowd loved it, team loved it, I loved it.

“She’s been really open to kind of changing her shot and it’s shown up in practice … but in the game we haven’t had the same release we’ve had in practice, but today, that looked like a good one.”

A major crackdown on scams, spearheaded by Meta and supported by the FBI, Department of Justice, Microsoft, Coinbase, and Starlink, has led to 63 arrests, the freezing of millions in cryptocurrency, and the elimination of over a million scam-related online accounts, officials reported Tuesday.

Meta declared this initiative as its most extensive anti-scam operation to date, characterizing it as an unprecedented coordinated effort that unites leading tech companies, financial platforms, and law enforcement agencies to dismantle the wider fraud network.

The operation, which commenced on May 18, was a collaborative effort involving the DOJ’s Scam Center Strike Force, led by U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Ferris Pirro, alongside the FBI, the Royal Thai Police, Microsoft, Coinbase, Starlink, and other global law enforcement allies.

Spanning across Washington, D.C., and Thailand, the initiative also saw the involvement of the U.S. Secret Service and law enforcement from the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and Thailand.

The operation targeted criminal scam networks that authorities say steal billions of dollars from Americans each year through romance scams, cryptocurrency investment fraud and other fraudulent schemes. Officials said many of the organizations operate from forced-labor compounds in Southeast Asia linked to transnational organized crime groups.

Authorities have also warned that some people working inside Southeast Asian scam compounds are trafficking victims coerced into carrying out fraud, while law enforcement efforts have focused on alleged organizers, recruiters, money launderers and network operators.

“Protecting people around the world from scams is one of our highest priorities,” Chris Sonderby, Meta’s vice president and deputy general counsel, said in a statement.

Sonderby said the operation “demonstrates the power of partnerships to combat scammers.”

“We’re proud to partner with industry and DOJ, FBI, Royal Thai Police, and other law enforcement agencies in taking this global fight directly to these Asia-based scam centers at their source,” he added.

As part of the operation, Meta removed approximately 1.4 million scam accounts, pages and groups from Facebook and Instagram.

The Royal Thai Police arrested 63 individuals allegedly connected to scam centers.

Authorities said the operation targeted criminal organizations involved in romance scams, investment fraud and other online schemes.

Coinbase froze more than $3 million in cryptocurrency assets tied to criminal networks.

Microsoft disabled roughly 20,000 accounts linked to scam operations, Meta said. Starlink disrupted thousands of internet terminals associated with the networks, according to Meta.

Authorities also identified dozens of previously unknown scam compounds and criminal networks, which were referred to law enforcement agencies for further investigation.

Meta said the effort marked its third joint operation with the DOJ Scam Center Strike Force since December 2025.

The scale of the operation has grown dramatically, from 59,000 scam assets removed in December to 150,000 in March and 1.4 million in the latest crackdown, according to Meta.

Across all three operations, the company said it has removed more than 1.6 million scam accounts, pages and groups and provided intelligence that helped lead to 84 arrests by the Royal Thai Police.

Kate Expresses Heartfelt Affection for William at Exclusive Royal Gathering

0

At a recent Cancer Research UK reception held at St James’s Palace, the Princess of Wales expressed a heartfelt sentiment for her spouse, the Prince of Wales, marking a seldom-seen public display of affection.

During her interaction with Ronan Keating and his wife, Storm, Catherine, 44, responded to the singer’s inquiry about Prince William, who was notably absent from the gathering.

“Please send my regards to William,” the 49-year-old Keating, known for his time with Boyzone, mentioned to Catherine.

Storm, also 44, chimed in, praising the future monarch by calling him “such a gent,” to which Ronan added, “We love him.”

Catherine, dressed in a striking £1,600 Rodarte red midi dress adorned with white hearts, humorously replied, “So do I,” eliciting laughter from the couple.

During a more serious conversation with Sebastian Bowen, the widower of ‘bowel babe’ Dame Deborah James, Catherine seemingly hinted at her husband’s quiet support after she was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer in early 2024.

Deborah, who died after a multi-year battle with incurable bowel cancer, was honoured by Prince William for her incredible fundraising and campaigning weeks before she passed away on June 28, 2022.

When Sebastian appeared to thank William for a sympathetic conversation that he apparently had with the couple’s two children, the princess replied: ‘He’s good like that.’

Catherine also praised the late cancer campaigner for the ‘impact of her work’.

She listened intently as Sebastian told her how it had been ‘bittersweet’ to smash fundraising targets for research and clinical trials into the disease that his wife had dreamed of achieving.

After photos and videos of Catherine with Ronan and Sebastian were shared online, royal fans gushed that the Prince and Princess of Wales make a ‘great team’, even though William did not attend the reception.

‘This is so sweet,’ one person wrote on X, while another said: ‘These are the sort of stories I love to hear & read about.’

Catherine, 44, was supporting King Charles, 77, as they marked the charity’s 125th anniversary at St James’s Palace yesterday.

Charles and his daughter-in-law, who share the unenviable bond of being diagnosed with the disease, were joined by Queen Camilla and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester in honour of Cancer Research UK’s milestone anniversary.

His Majesty and the Princess were diagnosed within weeks of each other in 2024.

While the King is still undergoing an undisclosed form of treatment, Catherine revealed she underwent a period of chemotherapy, which finished in the late summer of that year.

In January 2025, the future Queen announced that she was happily in remission, but has since spoken of the huge toll it has taken on her physically and warned that her return to public duties would be slow and measured.

Alongside researchers, clinicians, and volunteers from Cancer Research UK, high-profile guests at yesterday’s event included fellow cancer survivors Davina McCall, Hannah Fry, Adele Roberts, and the former Boyzone singer, who lost his mother to the disease.

Dame Deborah’s widower, Sebastian, also attended the event as fans praised him for keeping his wife’s legacy alive on X.

‘I love that Dame Deborah’s husband came to the reception,’ one person wrote. ‘The way their family carries on her name is beautiful to see.’

Reflecting on his conversation with Catherine, Sebastian said: ‘I told her I was incredibly touched that they, as a family, had been so supportive and thought about them all the time.

‘It was deeply touching and moving for me and my family to have had the opportunity to meet them and ongoing support and given to the fund both privately and publicly.’

Dame Deborah’s father, Alistair James, also spoke to the royals.

After chatting to Camilla, he said: ‘She congratulated us on everything we had achieved with the fund.’

He also met the princess and said afterwards: ‘It is the first time I’ve met Catherine, she was genuine and warm. I’ve met William and I have a lot of respect for both of them.’

Meanwhile, TV presenter Davina McCall said her exchange with the Princess of Wales at the Cancer Research UK reception was ‘really wonderful’.

Davina was introduced to the princess by Dr Ian Walker, executive director of policy, information and communications at the charity, on Tuesday evening.

She later said: ‘It was a really wonderful exchange, and they (the King, Queen and princess) are all wonderful.

‘I can’t imagine what it must be like having gone through something like cancer, and then sort of having to tell people about it, when possibly it would have been much easier and nicer not to have to share it with the world.

‘And I’ve got to say, after my brain tumour, I didn’t massively want to have to do that myself.’

She later added: ‘But it really helped me get through it by sharing it, and other people relating, or feeling like I could help.’

Davina underwent surgery in 2024 to remove a benign brain tumour.

She was diagnosed with breast cancer in October last year and had surgery to remove a lump, but said in April that she had now received the ‘all clear’.

After Charles asked her about her cancer, Davina was heard saying ‘I’m so grateful’ and told him ‘anything is possible’.

She also chatted at length with Catherine and, on meeting the princess, said ‘it’s such an honour’.

The reception included immersive installations showcasing the work of the charity, including its past impact, current work and future innovation.

Unraveling the Mystery: Beauty Queen’s Disappearance Linked to Boyfriend’s Suspicious Yard Excavation

A day following the mysterious disappearance of an American beauty queen, prosecutors claim her boyfriend urgently requested a trench to be dug in his front yard. This development adds a chilling dimension to the case.

Priscilla Brooten remains missing, yet her boyfriend, Zumba instructor Mark Sheridan Waden, is currently on trial for her alleged murder in Australia. This trial commenced on June 1, nearly eight years after she vanished, as reported by news.com.au. Waden has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The trial faced an unexpected interruption on its second day due to jury misconduct, according to AAP News. Proceedings are anticipated to resume on June 3 with a newly appointed jury. Prosecutors have already laid out initial statements, shedding light on the disturbing case and detailing why they suspect Waden of Brooten’s murder, amid allegations of his affair with another woman.

Brooten, 46, was last seen on July 5, 2018, at the Brisbane north residence she shared with Waden. Her vehicle was discovered abandoned in Scarborough later that same month, as noted in a video statement by Queensland Police.

On the morning of her disappearance at 6:59 a.m., Crown Prosecutor Andrew Walklate presented evidence in court revealing that Waden allegedly sent a message to his new girlfriend, Desiree Hatzipapas, stating, “We could sneak a long kiss as no one is here to see it,” as reported by The Sydney Morning Herald.

At 6:59 a.m. the day she disappeared, Crown Prosecutor Andrew Walklate told the court that Waden allegedly sent his new girlfriend Desiree Hatzipapas a message that read, “We could sneak a long kiss as no one is here to see it,” The Sydney Morning Herald reported.

That same day, Brooten allegedly accessed her boyfriend’s Facebook account and read through his messages with other women, saving copies of some of them to her computer, prosecutors said.

Waden allegedly canceled his 6 p.m. Zumba class that night and had a 29-minute call with Brooten—but Walklate said it would be the final call between the pair.

“After that evening, as it appeared, the defendant began a series of actions and deceptions to which I say hid what he did to Ms Brooten that evening,” he told the court, per news.com.au. “It is my case that he murdered her.”

Mark Waden Accused of Having Trench Dug After Priscilla Brooten Disappearance

According to Walklate—who described the couple as being under “significant strain”—the day after Brooten vanished, Walden made “urgent” requests for a trench to be dug in his front garden. He later claimed, according to the news outlet, that the request had been made to comply with a council request.

Yet, just one year later, in May 2019, Walklate said that Waden dug up the trench and dumped around 800 kg of soil at a nearby waste facility, news.com.au reported. He was allegedly captured on camera leaving the dump with a wheelie bin placed on a trailer.

Brooten has never been found.

Walklate also pointed to evidence that just weeks after Brooten disappeared, Waden allegedly moved Hatzipapas into his home, offering her the clothing and makeup Brooten had left behind, per The Sydney Morning Herald. He’s also accused of doing a factory reset on Brooten’s phone and giving it to his new girlfriend.

Although Brooten was a United States citizen, she was living illegally in Australia after her visa expired in 2009 and she relied on others to financially support her, prosecutors said.

Walklate said after her disappearance, Waden allegedly told others looking for her that she’d gone into hiding as a result of her visa status. He told police the couple had broken up in June 2018 and she’d packed up and left while he was teaching a Zumba class.

Mark Waden’s Defense Attorney Argues Priscilla Brooten Could Still be Alive

The original jurors in the case also heard from Waden’s defense attorney James Godbolt, who argued the police search of Waden’s garden had produced no evidence of a death.

“There is not a single piece of evidence that suggests the area excavated was used as a gravesite,” he told the court, per news.com.au. “None of it implicates Mr Waden in an offense.”

He argued that Brooten lived an “unusual life” and could still be alive today.

“Perhaps she managed to leave the country under another name, perhaps she is still living in the country under the radar,” he said, according to the outlet, “perhaps she committed suicide.”

The attorneys will lay out their initial arguments again for a new jury when the trial restarts on June 3.
