Is ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ Coming to an End? Here’s What You Need to Know!

0

The curtain is about to fall on a significant chapter in late-night television as “The Late Show” approaches its final curtain call on CBS.

In Washington, the well-loved “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” is preparing for its last week of broadcasts. Come Thursday, Colbert will bid farewell to his role as host, marking the conclusion of both his era and the CBS late-night legacy.

Since its inception in 1993 with David Letterman at the helm, “The Late Show” has been a staple on CBS. Stephen Colbert took over the reins in 2015, continuing the tradition of entertaining audiences. However, in a July announcement, Colbert disclosed that CBS had decided to conclude the show.

Paramount, which owns CBS, has clarified that the decision to cancel the program was driven by financial considerations rather than any issues with the show’s content.

Executives for the Paramount-owned network have emphasized that the cancellation decision was financial and not tied to the show’s content.

Who are the final “Late Show” guests?

Who will appear on Thursday’s final episode of “The Late Show” hasn’t been announced, as of Monday. However, some of the guests for the final week include Jon Stewart, Steven Spielberg, David Byrne and Bruce Springsteen.

What is replacing “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”?

After “The Late Show” ends, Byron Allen’s “Comics Unleashed” will be taking over the 11:35 p.m. Eastern time slot. The roundtable-style comedy talk show has featured comedians including Sebastian Maniscalco, Tiffany Haddish, Gabriel Iglesias, Cedric the Entertainer and Nate Bargatze. It has been in first-run syndication since its premiere in September 2006 for 20 consecutive seasons.

The 12:35 a.m. slot will be filled by “Funny You Should Ask,” a syndicated game show created by Allen and hosted by Jon Kelley.

Allen’s programs tend to avoid political humor and are designed for repeat airings — some “Comics Unleashed” episodes that have aired on CBS are more than 10 years old, according to the Los Angeles Times.

RHORI’ Star Rosie DiMare Stands Firm on Allegation That Kelsey Swanson’s Ex Financed Her Miss Rhode Island Victory: “I Only Speak on Verified Facts

0

Rosie DiMare, a standout personality from Real Housewives of Rhode Island, embodies the quintessential Real Housewife with her impressive home, thriving career, and a knack for stirring drama. Known for her incisive questions and sharp-tongued confessionals, DiMare has perfected the art of reality TV stardom. This week, she catapulted herself into the spotlight with an explosive confrontation with fellow cast member Kelsey Swanson, introducing the term “slam pig” into popular discourse and solidifying her reputation as one of the franchise’s most unpredictable figures.

The latest episode of Bravo’s freshest Real Housewives series, aired on Sunday night (May 17), showcased DiMare reaching her limits. Her ongoing feud with Swanson escalated to new heights, casting doubt on any possibility of mending their fractured relationship.

Speaking to DECIDER last week, DiMare expressed her frustrations, “This has been a long time of just being discredited, constantly hearing these girls try to spread rumors about me or my husband. It’s like nothing I do is good enough. Everything I do, there’s a crazy reaction.”

The tension between DiMare and Swanson traces back to the show’s premiere episode. DiMare questioned Swanson’s unusual relationship with a wealthy older man who maintains multiple girlfriends across the country. In retaliation, Swanson criticized DiMare for not promoting her beauty services on Instagram and accused her of inflating the square footage of her home.

Although it appeared they had patched things up in a previous episode, their truce was short-lived. Swanson reignited the feud by arriving at DiMare’s residence with a police siren and loudspeaker, once again mocking the size of DiMare’s house, resetting their relationship to square one.

“I don’t know why she thought that this was a moment to joke or to go back to poking me,” DiMare said. “If we were really going to build a friendship, wouldn’t you come and be nice to me while I’m literally setting this up so that you can cut my hair again and I’ll post it all over the internet? You would think she would be excited for that. Instead, it’s like, ‘Oh, I’m going to jab her again. I’m so funny.’ Maybe don’t become a comedian. Read the room.”

The argument that followed was one for the Bravo history books. DiMare got in Swanson’s face, putting her on blast for judging the size of her home when she had just moved into an apartment that was still being paid for by her ex-boyfriend. The television host also accused Swanson of sleeping with married men, and claimed her ex had paid off the judges for her Miss Rhode Island win — rumors that DiMare doubled down on when she caught up with DECIDER.

“Usually, I don’t say things that I can’t confirm. I like to have my documents in a row,” she said. “I have heard all of those things. Her family members have said some of these things. I wasn’t going to ever say them because it’s not my business. It’s not my problem. I know she thinks I have some large notes app on her, which she wishes. She’s never been in my phone. But I think that when you get pushed to a certain point, you’re just going to say whatever you want. And that’s what I did.”

With the reunion taping in the near future, DiMare promised to bring “plenty” of receipts. “I have some things up my sleeve I’ll be showing,” she teased.

The Real Housewives of Rhode Island airs Sunday nights at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Bravo. New episodes are available to stream the next day on Peacock.

Former Qantas CEO Plans to Introduce Affordable Airline in Australia

0

In brief:

  • The budget airline would offer flights between Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, before expanding.
  • Experts warn that industry competitors would go to lengths to see the proposed airline flop.

Australia’s aviation market may soon experience a shake-up with the potential emergence of a new budget airline, set to challenge the status quo by slashing ticket prices on the nation’s most frequented routes. However, experts caution that this fresh entrant will face formidable resistance from established airlines.

Backed by former Qantas executive Peter Kelly, the proposed airline, Zinc, seeks to position itself as a low-cost alternative for Australian travelers. Drawing inspiration from Europe’s budget carrier, Ryanair, Zinc promises to offer the most affordable domestic airfares. Initial plans include services along the pivotal “Golden Triangle” connecting Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane, with future expansions to Adelaide and the Gold Coast.

While the journey ahead is fraught with challenges, Kelly remains optimistic about Zinc’s prospects. He believes the opening of the new Western Sydney International Airport will unlock sufficient flight opportunities to support the airline’s operations.

Historically, the Australian domestic market has been constrained by the limited number of available flight “slots” at Sydney’s Kingsford Smith Airport. This bottleneck has often put a cap on the number of flights airlines can operate, hindering new entrants from gaining a foothold. Kelly’s vision for Zinc, however, hinges on the capacity expansion offered by the new airport, which he sees as a critical factor in the airline’s potential success.

The Australian domestic market was previously impeded by a limited number of “slots” available for flights through Sydney’s existing Kingsford Smith Airport.

Kelly said these are held by incumbent airlines.

‘More competition means lower prices’

Professor Rico Merkert, an aviation industry expert from Sydney University, said an ultra-low budget airline like Zinc has the potential to bring ticket prices down across the board.

“For customers, it would be great. More competition means lower prices,” Merkert said.

However, he believes there’ll be pushback.

A graphic showing the Zinc Airlines plane, coloured blue and white with 'Zinc' across the front.

He says Jetstar, the low-budget subsidiary of Kelly’s former employer, will fight to maintain its most profitable routes.

“They will do everything they can to make this a failure in my view,” he said.

Defunct airline, Rex, expanded its regional roots to offer flights in the “Golden Triangle” — a decision that led to its collapse, Merkert said.

Kelly believes that there’s an appetite for more competition in Australia, not least by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.

Considering the global fuel crisis and the recent failure of American low-cost airline, Spirit, Merkert said it’s “crazy” to launch an airline.

“It’s an absolute crazy environment to set up an airline right now, when most other airlines are just trying to understand how they can survive,” he said.

RMIT aviation expert, Chrystal Zhang, agrees timing is critical for new airlines. However, she believes pre-launch preparation could see better outcomes for the airline’s future.

“New airlines entering the market would face significant and very head-on competition from the incumbent airlines,” she said.

“In theory, we need more airlines, but in reality, perhaps it’s a different story.”

Elite Finnish Rescue Team Recovers Bodies of Italian Divers in Tragic Diving Incident

0

In a somber turn of events, elite divers from Finland have successfully recovered the bodies of a group of Italian divers who tragically lost their lives in the sea caves of the Maldives. This comes shortly after a local rescuer succumbed during the search mission, adding to the tragedy.

The calamity unfolded on Thursday when five divers, including a mother and her daughter, perished while exploring the depths of the caves, estimated to be around 165 feet. This incident is regarded as the most severe diving accident ever recorded in the small Indian Ocean nation.

On Friday, the body of one diver was retrieved from the depths of Thinwana Kandu cave, also known as Shark Cave, found at an approximate depth of 197 feet.

Efforts to continue the recovery were temporarily put on hold on Saturday following the death of a Maldivian rescue diver, who tragically passed away from decompression sickness after participating in the recovery mission.

The cave comprises three expansive chambers linked by narrow corridors. Two of these chambers were explored on Friday, but the search operations were hindered by concerns over oxygen depletion and the risks associated with decompression.

The remaining four bodies have now been located, following the arrival of three Finnish cave drivers who are assisting in the perlious search operation.

The victims have been identified as Monica Montefalcone, an associate professor of ecology at the University of Genoa; her daughter, Giorgia Sommacal; marine biologist Federico Gualtieri; researcher Muriel Oddenino; and scuba diving instructor Gianluca Benedetti.

The Italian tour operator that managed the diving trip has denied authorising or knowing about the deep dive that violated local limits, its lawyer told Italian daily Corriere della Sera on Saturday.

Orietta Stella, representing Albatros Top Boat, said the operator ‘did not know’ the group planned to descend beyond 30 meters.

That threshold requires special permission from Maldivian maritime authorities, and the tour operator ‘would have never allowed it,’ she said.

The dive far exceeded what was planned for a scientific cruise focused on coral sampling at standard depths, Stella added.

The victims were experienced divers, but the equipment used appeared to be standard recreational gear rather than technical equipment suited for deep cave diving, she said.

The Finnish divers – Sami Paakkarinen, Jenni Westerlund and Patrik Grönqvist – worked alongside the MNDF and other officials in the rescue mission.

Following the death of rescue diver Sergeant-major Mahudhee during Saturday’s search operation, the MNDF temporarily suspended the recovery effort, which has been taking place in rough weather and sea conditions.

‘The death goes to show the difficulty of the mission,’ Maldives Presidential Spokesman Mohamed Hussain Shareef said.

The Maldivian military added in an X post: ‘His courage, his sacrifice, and service to the nation will always be remembered.

‘Our deepest condolences to his family and colleagues.’

Shareef said the searchers had prepared a plan based on their progress exploring the cave on Friday.

The military diver’s death came after a group of five Italian divers tragically lost their lives on May 14 while exploring a cave in Alimathaa, one of the atoll’s most popular diving stops.

The body of scuba diving instructor Gianluca Benedetti was recovered from a cave on Friday, but rescuers were still searching for the remaining four divers over the weekend.

Shareef said Benedetti’s body was found near the mouth of the cave, and authorities believed the remaining four had entered the cave.

The Italian Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, said everything possible would be done to bring the victims home.

His ministry stated it was coordinating with Divers Alert Network, a specialist diving organisation, to support recovery operations and the repatriation of the bodies.

However, mystery continues to surround the cause of death.

Authorities have launched an investigation to understand what happened, while several theories are being considered.

One of the victims is 51-year-old Monica Montefalcone, a respected marine biologist, TV personality, and professor of Tropical Marine Ecology and Underwater Science at the University of Genoa. Her 22-year-old daughter, Giorgia Sommacal, also died.

Montefalcone’s husband and Giorgia’s father, Carlo Sommacal, said on Friday that footage taken on a GoPro camera could reveal the mystery surrounding their tragic deaths.

Speaking to Italian news outlet La Repubblica, a devastated Sommacal said: ‘Monica usually had a GoPro when she went diving.

‘I don’t know if she had one the other day. If they find it, maybe from there we can understand what happened.’

He also insisted that ‘my wife [was] among the best divers on earth,’ and said she wouldn’t have put anyone in the group in danger.

‘She would never have put our daughter’s life or that of others at risk… something must have happened down there,’ he said.

‘Maybe one of them had trouble, maybe the oxygen tanks, I have no idea.’

Montefalcone had survived the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami when it struck the Maldives.

Sommacal added that one of the divers on the expedition, Gianluca Benedetti, was ‘meticulous.’

‘He checked everything: the tanks, the weather conditions. He’s not a fool,’ Sommacal said. ‘It must have been fate; they took every precaution possible.’

The grief-stricken father revealed that his daughter Giorgia was going to graduate from university next month and said he and his wife had been planning a party for her.

The three other victims have been named as Muriel Oddenino of Turin, Gianluca Benedetti of Padua, and Federico Gualtieri from Omegna.

Oddenino, a 31-year-old marine biologist and ecologist, was Montefalcone’s colleague.

She was an experienced diver and authored scientific publications. She was described by a loved one as ‘sweet and sensitive’.

Benedetti, 44, was an operations manager, a diving instructor and a boat captain.

After working in banking and finance for several years, he turned his passion for diving into a full-time career and moved to the Maldives in 2017.

He was the operations manager and skipper aboard the luxury Duke of York, the diving yacht that the group used for their expedition.

He was described by Albatros Top Boat, the Duke of York’s operator, as ‘energetic, extremely sporty, and a lover of reading, classic cinema, and chess.’

Speaking about her son’s tragic death, Benedetti’s mother told Italian news outlet Gazzettino: ‘I heard the news from the embassy. I can’t say anything, and you can only imagine the pain.’

Gualtieri, 31, was a scuba diving instructor and had recently graduated from the University of Genoa with a degree in marine biology and ecology.

He had previously praised his professor, Montefalcone, saying: ‘Ever since I met her, she has always been my guide, encouraging me to follow my dreams and passions.’

Cave diving is a highly technical and dangerous activity that requires specialised training, equipment and strict safety protocols.

Risks increase sharply in environments where divers cannot head straight up and at depth, particularly when conditions are poor.

Experts say it’s easy to become disoriented or lost inside caves, particularly as sediment clouds can sharply reduce visibility.

Diving at 50 meters also exceeds the maximum depth recommended for recreational divers by most major established scuba certifying agencies, with depths beyond 40 meters considered technical diving and requiring specialised training and equipment.

Shareef said that the cave ‘is so deep that even divers with the best equipment do not try to approach.’

‘There will be a separate investigation into how these divers went below the permitted depth, but our focus right now is on the search and rescue,’ he added.

Authorities have not ruled out several scenarios, with police probing whether bad weather may have affected the divers’ visibility.

According to Italian news outlet La Repubblica, the fact that none of the five divers managed to resurface suggests the group may have become lost within an underwater cave.

With little light and poor visibility due to bad weather, they may have lost their bearings, panicked, and perhaps run out of air while trying to find their way out.

Police also haven’t ruled out the possibility that one of the five may have become stuck while the others ran out of air or panicked trying to free their colleague.

Diving experts have also been speculating on various hypotheses.

According to local media, one of the most widely accepted hypotheses by the coast guard and experts is oxygen toxicity.

This phenomenon occurs if the tank’s mixture is inadequate, making oxygen toxic at certain depths.

The five Italians had boarded the Duke of York (pictured), a foreign-operated live-aboard diving vessel, and they disappeared near Alimathaa

The five Italians had boarded the Duke of York (pictured), a foreign-operated live-aboard diving vessel, and they disappeared near Alimathaa

‘At 50 meters of depth in the sea, there are several risks; it’s a real tragedy,’ says Alfonso Bolognini, president of the Italian Society of Underwater and Hyperbaric Medicine.

‘There are several hypotheses we can make right now: an inadequate breathing mix can create a hyperoxic crisis when there’s an increase in the partial pressure of oxygen in the tissues and blood plasma, which can cause neurological problems.

‘Inside a cave at 50 meters of depth, all it takes is a problem for a diver or a panic attack for a diver,’ he adds, saying that ‘the agitation causes the water to become cloudy and can impair visibility.

‘In these cases, the panic component could lead to even fatal errors.’

It is also unclear whether the Italians’ dive, being at a depth of over 160ft, was regulated, according to the Maldives National Defence Force.

Meanwhile, it has been revealed that there was no local guide to accompany the group into the cave, as required by Maldivian law.

Investigators are also trying to determine whether the group used an ‘Ariadne’s thread’ – a rope used by divers while exploring caves to help them stay close together and find the entrance and exit to the cavities.

The use of the rope is mandatory in certain caves.

The Maldives, a nation of 1,192 tiny coral islands scattered some 500 miles across the equator in the Indian Ocean, is a luxury holiday destination popular with divers, who often stay at secluded resorts or on dive boats.

Local regulations allow dives to a maximum depth of 98 feet, but experienced professionals are known to go deeper.

Diving and water-sport-related accidents are relatively rare in the South Asian nation, although several fatal incidents have been reported in recent years.

Ellie Goulding, 38, Playfully Flaunts Baby Bump with Toyboy Beau Minniear, 28, in Viral Video Clip

Ellie Goulding recently delighted her fans with a humorous TikTok video, where she playfully asked her younger boyfriend, Beau Minniear, “Do I look pregnant?” Displaying her baby bump in the light-hearted clip, the singer exuded a radiant charm.

The 38-year-old star, who is expecting her second child, first revealed her pregnancy at the Fashion Awards earlier this month. She graced the red carpet alongside her 28-year-old partner, Beau, showcasing her visible pregnancy glow.

In the amusing video shared with her 1.8 million TikTok followers, Ellie begins by posing the cheeky question to Beau. The camera then pans to capture Beau’s surprised expression as he quickly shakes his head, denying any noticeable change.

Beau, seated comfortably by a cozy fire in their home, sported a black tank top that highlighted his toned arms, adding a casual and relaxed vibe to the playful exchange.

This upcoming addition to the family will join Ellie’s five-year-old son, Arthur, whom she co-parents with former partner Caspar Jopling. The singer’s fans have eagerly embraced this new chapter in her life, showering her with support and excitement.

Ellie, who was dressed in a blue striped shirt and black leggings, then cradled and looked down at her baby bump before nodding in agreement.

She wrote: ‘Phew. Didn’t think so x’.

It comes after Ellie revealed the secret to her glow as she enjoyed her £45 matcha and mushroom lattes.

Sharing an update to her Instagram Story last week, Ellie was every inch the glowing mum-to-be as she posed for a makeup free snap while shopping at Daylesford Organic.

The musician, who launched her side hustle, Everystate, earlier this year, proudly held up a pouch of the match and mushroom superblend powder.

She wrote: ‘Look what I found. The perfect gift for someone who wants to start their year right.’

Ellie has been taking the stage by storm since 2009 and is one of the most successful female singers of the 21st century.

But she is now working on Everystate because she can’t make as much through touring as she once could.

She previously told The Times that her venture is ‘un-rock’n’roll’ but confessed that she’s been interested in ‘functional mushrooms’ for a little while now.

Ellie explained she initially took interest in the superfood in lockdown and now credits it with improving her health and helping with her anxiety.

Everystate offers online subscriptions for £36 a month or for a one-off month’s supply for £45 and officially launched in April.

Each delivery includes 20g of powdered mushroom – enough for four weeks and mixed in with some milk, makes the perfect mushroom latte.

Elsewhere, Ellie has reportedly sold a second multi-million pound London home for a loss, ahead of welcoming her and boyfriend Beau’s first child.

The songstress has flogged a mews cottage in West London for £1.3M, a whopping £260K less than she paid for the three-bedroom property.

According to The Sun documents for Ellie’s company Miss EG Properties show a mortgage on the home was settled upon the sale, with the firm still owning £1.9M worth of properties.

Daily Mail have contacted Ellie’s representatives for comment.

This comes after the hitmaker and ex Caspar sold their former marital home last December for an eye-watering £625K loss after slashing the price numerous times.

The five-storey, four-bedroom semi-detached townhouse in Marylebone was initially put on the market for £5.95million in October of 2020, before being slashed down by £350,000 to £5.6million a year later.

Then Ellie discounted the property once again and sold it for for £2.55m with a source telling The Sun at the time: ‘The property market is a killer at the minute and Ellie just wanted to get rid.

‘She has a decent portfolio of properties but she’s been readjusting following her break-up with Caspar earlier this year.’

The 2,961 sq.ft house features a series of dramatic tall windows, a trendy spiral staircase and Gaggenau integrated appliances

Ellie’s London home was designed by architects Stiff + Trevillion, and she has often been seen posing outsides on the cobbled mews on her way to A-list parties and society events.

Sydney Sweeney’s Boyfriend Scooter Braun Reacts to Her Bold ‘Euphoria’ Scenes

Scooter Braun stands firmly behind his girlfriend Sydney Sweeney’s more daring performances in the series “Euphoria.”

According to an exclusive source speaking to Page Six, the music mogul is in full support of Sweeney’s role on the acclaimed HBO drama, which often includes nudity and intense scenes.

“Scooter is completely at ease with Sydney’s bold scenes in ‘Euphoria’ and any of her acting endeavors,” the insider shared. “He recognizes that these are integral parts of her profession and admires her commitment to her art.”

The source went on to say, “Their relationship is rock solid, with a deep level of trust. Scooter doesn’t feel threatened by her roles or attempt to dictate her career choices. He is immensely supportive of her achievements and takes pride in her successes.”

The insider also noted, “They are very happy in their relationship, and everything is progressing wonderfully.”

The Emmy-nominated actress has portrayed Cassie Howard on “Euphoria” since the HBO series premiered in 2019.

Braun’s reaction comes as “Euphoria” has sparked renewed conversation online over the increasingly explicit storylines involving Sweeney’s character.

The “White Lotus” star and the music executive’s romance first made headlines in September, months after meeting at Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s $50 million Italian wedding in June 2025.

At the time, a source told Page Six that Braun, 44, was initially worried Sweeney, 28, was too young for him, but later decided to pursue the actress.

Braun was previously married to Yael Cohen from 2014 until they separated in 2021 and divorced in 2022. The former couple share three children: sons Jagger, 11, Levi, 9, and daughter Hart, 7.

Sweeney broke off her engagement to businessman Jonathan Davino in March 2025, after the pair spent some seven years together.

As we previously reported, the pair made their relationship Instagram official when the duo hard-launched their romance on social media earlier this month.

Sweeney posted several photos with her beau at Stagecoach Music Festival 2026, which took place last month in Indio, California.

The post included snapshots of Sweeney on Braun’s shoulders in the crowd, the entertainment exec holding the actress in his arms in front of one of the stages and the duo making silly faces in a photo booth.

In another picture, the couple wrapped their arms around each other as they watched a performance.

The “Christy” star also shared clips of her doing karaoke and line dancing with her boyfriend and their friends. She captioned her post, “cowboy kind of weekend.”

Sen. Lindsey Graham Urges Trump to Enforce ‘Circle of Death’ Strategy on Iran’s Nuclear Facilities

0

Senator Lindsey Graham urged on Sunday that the United States should take military action against anyone approaching Iran’s nuclear materials, which have been secured since the strikes on three nuclear sites last summer.

During an appearance on NBC News’ “Meet The Press,” Graham discussed President Trump’s intentions, stating, “He wants to secure the nuclear remnants. There’s an alternative approach, and I discussed it with him yesterday.”

Graham elaborated, “We should define a perimeter around the known location, calling it the ‘circle of death.’ Anyone entering this zone will be eliminated until a solution is found. The aim is to prevent them from accessing the materials, making dirty bombs, or advancing their nuclear capabilities, which have been significantly disrupted for at least a couple of years.”

Following Graham’s comments, President Trump took to Truth Social, posting, “For Iran, the Clock is Ticking. They need to act quickly, or they risk facing total destruction. TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!”

Since April 8, a fragile cease-fire has been in place between Washington and Tehran. Meanwhile, the U.S. has enforced a naval blockade on Iranian ports since April 13, leading to the near shutdown of the crucial Strait of Hormuz, a passageway for about 20% of the world’s oil supply.

NRL Star Cameron Munster Criticizes New Rules, Leading to Disinterest in Watching Games as Other Footy Legends Voice Concerns

The introduction of the revised “six again” rule in the NRL this season has led to a significant increase in scoring, with each round so far witnessing at least 40 points being posted.

Under this new rule, referees now have the expanded authority to award teams an additional set of six tackles for infringements related to rucks or offsides, from the defending team’s 20-meter line up to the try line.

This change has accelerated the pace of play, as fewer stoppages occur for penalties, keeping the game moving briskly.

The resultant fatigue from this quicker tempo has given attacking teams a notable edge, allowing them to capitalize on opportunities to increase their scores.

However, the rule has sparked some controversy, particularly concerning the referees. Due to the nature of ruck penalties, the decision to restart the set has limited options for video review, which grants officials significant influence over the game’s momentum.

While higher scoring would usually result in better entertainment and a satisfied fan, NRL superstar Cameron Munster revealed the new rules have made him turn off when not playing.

‘I think the rules were perfect two years ago, or a year ago, if it’s not broke, don’t fix it,’ the Maroons captain said on his 167 podcast.

‘It’s obviously a product the NRL want… I used to watch it all the time but now it’s just in the background, I don’t even watch it.

‘I don’t want to see finals this year go to blowout games. But it’s the product they want, they want to play touch footy, so all the best to them.’

167 podcast co-host Jahrome Hughes echoed Munster’s sentiments saying, ‘I’m seeing stuff and I go, why is that a six again? And then I see something and why’s that not? So I get too technical in my head.

‘For me as a player, personally I can’t really watch rugby, I’ve never been a massive watcher anyway but now its just, I make it too technical in my head and I start picking things out I shouldn’t be and i can’t really enjoy it.’

Hughes also went on to say that he felt like certain types of players are being phased out of the game, adding, ‘It’s sad, like the big, I guess like our old teammate like Nelson [Asofa-Solomona], those types of players are getting washed out of the game because it’s too quick now.’

Asofa-Solomona actually walked away from rugby at the end of last season to pursue a boxing career.

And they aren’t the only ones who feel the six again rule is having a negative impact on the game.

Two-time NRL Grand Final runner up Josh Morris has blasted the league for having ‘too many blowouts.’

‘I don’t want to be negative but I’ve got to say it, the blowouts because of the six to go rule, it’s killing my weekend buzz watching football.

‘It has made the referee the central figure on the field and that should not be the case.

‘When you have the likes of Cameron Munster and Jahrome Hughes saying they can’t stand watching the game and they just keep it in the background.’

‘It’s bordering on touch football, I know you are trying to eradicate the wrestle, but you need wrestle,’ fellow host Andrew Webster echoed.

Former referee, turned politician, Tim Mander has also said the current state of six-again rule has made the game ‘difficult to accept.’
