Essential Information on the Recent Hantavirus Outbreak Aboard a Cruise Ship

How did the hantavirus cruise ship outbreak start?

A Dutch couple is suspected to have caught the virus during a visit to a landfill in Ushuaia, Argentina, as part of a bird-watching tour before they embarked on a cruise, according to information from two Argentine officials reported by the Associated Press.

On April 6, just five days after the cruise ship MV Hondius set sail from Argentina, a male passenger began experiencing symptoms including fever, headache, and mild diarrhea, as outlined by the World Health Organization (WHO). By April 11, his condition worsened to include respiratory issues, and he tragically passed away aboard the ship.

His body was removed from the vessel when it docked at Saint Helena, an island in the Atlantic Ocean, on April 24. The same day, his wife also left the ship, presenting with gastrointestinal symptoms, according to the Associated Press.

As she traveled to Johannesburg on April 25, her condition worsened significantly, according to the WHO. She succumbed to the illness on April 26 upon reaching a local hospital.

The couple was reported to be 69 and 70 years old, respectively, according to The New York Times.

Who died in the hantavirus cruise ship outbreak?

In addition to the couple, a female passenger with “presentation of pneumonia” died on May 2, per the WHO. Prior to her death, she reported symptoms of fever and a general unwell on April 28.

Netflix Poised to Expand Sports Streaming with Potential NFL Game Acquisition

0

Netflix is on the verge of expanding its involvement with the NFL’s broadcasting lineup once more.

According to a report by John Ourand from Puck News on Thursday, the streaming giant is nearing an agreement with the NFL that is likely to feature the Week 1 showdown between the 49ers and Rams in Australia, a game set for the night before Thanksgiving, and several Christmas matchups.

The historic game in Australia is scheduled for Thursday, September 10, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, marking the NFL’s debut in the country. NBC is anticipated to handle the production responsibilities for this event, as stated by The Athletic.

In another groundbreaking move for both Netflix and the NFL, a game on Thanksgiving Eve is set to be part of the deal.

The NFL began considering this idea back in March, which has created an opportunity for the league to offer additional content to its broadcasting partners.

For the Thanksgiving Eve contest, the NFL will likely be looking for at least $100 million for the standalone primetime window as the league’s massive viewership increases each year. Amazon reportedly pays the league $100 million for the Black Friday afternoon game.

Over the last two seasons, Netflix has reportedly paid $150 million per year to broadcast two Christmas Day games. That is set to continue through December as a three-year deal enters its final season.

For scheduling, the teams in the Wednesday night slot will likely play the previous Saturday instead of Sunday.

It’s not the first time the league has dipped its toes into Wednesday night football. Netflix’s first NFL broadcasts on Christmas Day took place on a Wednesday in 2024.

Revitalize Hip Strength with These 5 Chair Exercises That Outpace Yoga for Seniors

All it takes is a sturdy chair to embark on these effective exercises.

Have you assessed the strength of your hips lately? There are noticeable signs that suggest your hips might need some extra attention. Struggling with walking or climbing stairs, experiencing balance issues, or feeling lower back pain could all be indicators of weakened hip strength. Other symptoms to watch for include your pelvis tilting to one side when standing or walking, your knees turning inward during squats, or an awkward walking pattern.

If you’re looking to enhance your hip strength after the age of 60, we have five chair-based exercises recommended by Terry Tateossian. She is the Founder, Certified Lifestyle Medicine Coach, Trainer, and Nutritionist for Women 40+ at THOR – The House of Rose. Tateossian brings a wealth of advanced training in women’s health and weight loss for those in their middle years, offering solutions that can strengthen your hips more efficiently than yoga.

“While yoga excels in promoting mobility, flexibility, and stability, it often lacks the resistance and progressive overload necessary for building strength, better activation, control, and stability in multiple directions,” Tateossian clarifies. “Mobility allows us to move more effectively, but strength is what provides stability. After turning 60, both are essential, but prioritizing strength is crucial.”

“Yoga is great for mobility, flexibility, and stability, but it does not provide enough resistance or progressive overload to help build strength and better activation, control, and stability in multiple directions,” Tateossian explains. “Mobility helps us move better. Strength keeps us stable. After 60, we need both, but strength needs to come first.”

Seated Forward Lean to Stand Prep

  1. Begin seated with your feet planted flat on the ground.
  2. Lean forward, hinging at the hips and keeping your nose over your knees.
  3. Hold the position briefly.
  4. Return to the start position.
  5. Perform 3 to 4 sets of 10 to 12 reps using a 3010 tempo (take 3 seconds to lean forward, then return to the start in 1 second, with no pauses.) Rest for 60 seconds between sets.

Banded Seated Leg Press

  1. Begin seated on a chair.
  2. Loop a resistance band under both feet, holding onto the ends with each hand.
  3. Engage your core.
  4. Extend your legs, pressing your feet out against the resistance.
  5. Use the control to return to the start position.
  6. Perform 3 to 4 sets of 10 to 15 reps, keeping the 3010 tempo slow and controlled, resting for 60 seconds between sets.

Seated Banded Hip Abductions

  1. Begin sitting tall on a sturdy chair or workout bench with your feet planted flat on the ground and your knees bent.
  2. Position a resistance band just above your knees.
  3. Begin with your knees hip-distance apart.
  4. Press your knees out against the resistance band.
  5. Use control to release.
  6. Perform 3 to 4 sets of 25 to 39 reps, keeping the 3010 tempo slow and controlled, resting for 60 seconds between sets.

Seated March

  1. Begin seated with your feet placed hip-width apart on the floor.
  2. Lift your left knee up to hip height.
  3. Hold for a moment at the top before lowering.
  4. Maintain solid posture as you continue to “march.”
  5. Perform 3 to 4 sets of 20 to 30 reps, keeping with the 3010 tempo, slow and controlled, resting for 60 seconds between sets.

Seated Leg Extension

  1. Begin sitting tall with your back supported against the chair.
  2. Place your feet flat on the floor.
  3. Hold the sides of the chair for added stability.
  4. Straighten your left leg out in front of you until your knee is completely extended. For max quad engagement, keep your toes flexed toward your shin the entire time.
  5. Hold for 2 seconds at the top before lowering.
  6. Repeat on the other side.
  7. Perform 3 to 4 sets of 12 to 15 reps, keeping with the 3010 tempo, slow and controlled, resting for 60 seconds between sets.

Jake Reiner Pays Heartfelt Tribute to Father Rob Reiner in Recent Podcast Episode

0

Jake Reiner took a heartfelt moment to reminisce about his illustrious parents as he made his return to his podcast, marking the first appearance since their unexpected passing late last year.

In a tragic event last December, Rob and Michelle Reiner were found murdered in their Los Angeles residence, with Jake’s younger sibling, Nick, aged 32, facing charges of first-degree murder.

During the latest episode of his podcast, The Incline: Dodgers, which centers around baseball, Jake, 35, expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support he has received “since everything happened.”

“I couldn’t be more thankful,” Jake shared. “It felt like the right time to come back to the podcast. I’ve been contemplating it for quite some time and have been in discussions with my co-host Kevin Klein about it.”

Jake also highlighted his father Rob’s passion for baseball, noting that the acclaimed director of classics like Stand By Me and When Harry Met Sally was an ardent Dodgers enthusiast.

‘It’s something that I’ve always connected with with my dad, first and foremost, and it’s something that I will continue to connect with him for the rest of my life,’ he stated.

‘When it comes to the Dodgers, you know, my first love, is something that I’ve always connected with my dad first and foremost, and it’s something that I will continue to connect with him for the rest of my life,’ Jake previously told People.

In April, Jake described the ‘too impossible to process’ moment he learned his parents had been murdered.

In a Substack essay, he shared the shock of discovering his brother was accused of carrying out the killings. He also revealed his sister, Romy, 28, informed him of their parents’ deaths.

Jake recounted traveling to the house in a taxi, describing the 45-minute journey ‘in a trance’ as he tried to process what had happened.

‘The only thing I could focus on was that I needed to get to my childhood home. I needed to get to my sister. I needed to figure out what the hell just happened,’ he wrote.

‘I was robbed of so many things that day. My parents won’t be at my wedding, they won’t get to hold their future grandchild, and they won’t get to see me have the successful career I’m still seeking. It simultaneously breaks my heart and enrages me.’

Jake wrote the scale of the loss was compounded by the accusation against his brother.

He said: ‘We lost more than half of our family that night in the most violent way imaginable.

‘Sure, any loss of a parent is devastating, but nothing compares to losing both of them at the same time and, on top of that, having your brother be at the center of it. It’s almost too impossible to process.’

Jake said the months since the killings have been marked by ongoing grief and disbelief.

In February Nick plead not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of his parents

He added: ‘Every day since then has been horrendous. Every meeting we take, every person we talk to, every tear we shed, every movement we make is connected to our parents being murdered.’

Jake described the continuing impact on himself and Romy, writing the reality of the loss remains constant.

He said: ‘Because they weren’t your parents, it might be easier to move forward or even forget for a moment about what happened that day. But for us, it’s every single day.’

Paying tribute, Jake said his parents were central to his life. He added: ‘They are my guiding lights, the foundation of who I am as a human being, and the most giving people I have ever known.’

Haitian Immigrant Accused of Fatal Attack on Florida Clerk Faces Death Penalty Charges

0

A man who unlawfully entered the United States from Haiti has been sentenced to face the death penalty after being convicted of murdering a store clerk in Fort Myers, prosecutors revealed.

On Thursday, State Attorney Amira Fox announced that a Lee County grand jury had indicted 40-year-old Rolbert Joachin. The indictment is linked to the tragic incident on April 2, where Nilufa Easmın, a 51-year-old Bangladeshi immigrant, was killed at a gas station in Fort Myers, Florida.

Prosecutors stated that Joachin is alleged to have attacked Easmın outside the gas station, delivering fatal blows to her head with a hammer.

The horrific act was captured on surveillance cameras, which showed Easmın confronting Joachin after he smashed her car window, only to be repeatedly struck with the hammer. Authorities have described the footage as “extremely brutal and incredibly violent.”

Bludgeoning attack at Florida gas station

Indicted on a charge of first-degree murder, Joachin is now facing the death penalty, as prosecutors emphasize the severity of the crime.

Investigators say Joachin fled the scene following the attack, prompting a citywide search before Fort Myers police located and arrested him.

“This crime was so violent, so extreme, so unwarranted. It is something that once seen, is never to be forgotten. I want to thank the Lee County Grand Jury who watched and reviewed the gruesome evidence in this case and gave their full attention. I know it was not easy. This defendant entered the United States illegally and brutally ended the life of a mother simply at her job, working to provide for her family,” State Attorney Fox said.

“He will be punished to the fullest extent of the law. We will seek the death penalty in this case,” Fox said.

President Donald Trump condemned the violent video, and blasted the Biden administration for releasing the suspect in 2022.

“An Illegal Alien Criminal from Haiti, who was released into our Country by the WORST President in History, Crooked Joe Biden, and the Radical Democrats in Congress, just beat an innocent woman to death with a hammer at a gas station in Florida,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post. “The video of her brutal slaying is one of the most vicious things you will ever see.

“This one killing should be enough for these Radical Judges to STOP impeding my Administration’s Immigration Policies, and allow us to END THIS SCAM ONCE AND FOR ALL,” he added.

WATCH:

Joachim first entered the U.S. in August 2022, and was released into the country under former President Joe Biden, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

A federal judge later issued a final order of removal against Joachim, but he was granted Temporary Protected Status, which Trump has described as “a massively abused and fraudulent program.” He has also blamed what he called “radical liberal district court judges” for blocking efforts by his administration to end it.

While a federal judge issued a final order of removal against him, Joachim was reportedly granted Temporary Protected Status, a program Trump called “massively abused and fraudulent” and difficult to eliminate due to Democratic support.

The suspect then remained in the country after his status expired in 2024.

NYC Council Considers Automatic Enrollment in Benefits Program, Including for Undocumented Immigrants

0

Liberal members of the City Council are advocating for a new bill aimed at automatically enrolling residents, including undocumented immigrants, into social benefit programs.

Council member Crystal Hudson is championing this initiative, which proposes that the Department of Social Services utilize tax data, social services records, and other governmental databases to identify qualifying New Yorkers. These individuals would be enrolled in “city-created benefit programs” without needing to submit an application.

Although the proposal’s financial implications are anticipated to be substantial, neither the lawmakers nor Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s administration have provided an estimate of how much this automatic enrollment program would ultimately cost taxpayers.

“We all strive to do the right thing, but the bureaucratic system often complicates these efforts,” Hudson remarked during a City Council hearing on Wednesday, where the bill was under discussion.

Under the proposed legislation, the department would be required to notify individuals about their enrollment in specific programs. This notification would include details about the benefits offered, any related costs, necessary steps to finalize enrollment, and the option to opt out if desired.

Hudson argued the bill is needed because many people never make it through the city’s red tape. She pointed to Fair Fares, a program that offers half-priced subway and bus rides for low-income New Yorkers, where only about 37% of eligible riders were enrolled as of late 2025.

“I’m trying to help you help New Yorkers,” Hudson told Department of Social Services officials who testified at the hearing.

“I think with a little chutzpah and imagination — and with the right investments — we could make it happen.”

But the council’s own Fiscal Impact Statement concedes lawmakers do not know what the bill would cost.

The Finance Division wrote that the legislation “may necessitate increased funding for the Department of Social Services, but currently there is not sufficient information available to assess the cost.”

The city’s Office of Management and Budget also did not provide an estimate.

The bill is cosponsored by a slate of Progressive Caucus members and allies, including Lincoln Restler, Julie Won, Carmen De La Rosa, Gale Brewer, Shahana Hanif, Harvey Epstein and Farah Louis.

At a City Council hearing Wednesday, HRA Chief Program Officer Rebecca Chew said the administration is still reviewing the proposal, including budget considerations, and she raised alarms about privacy and consent.

She warned that benefits eligibility often hinges on sensitive information — from immigration status and income to pregnancy, HIV status and domestic violence history — and that building a centralized auto-enrollment database could clash with state and federal privacy rules.

The bill does not name specific programs, but it applies to any city-created benefit administered by the social services commissioner.

That definition could cover Fair Fares, which is open to illegal immigrants as well as other New York residents.

It could also reach city-run guaranteed income pilots, some of which accept illegal immigrants.

Depending on how the bill is interpreted, it might even apply to CityFHEPS, the rental assistance program whose costs have more than tripled in recent years, from about $500 million in fiscal 2023 to a projected $1.7 billion in 2026.

If CityFHEPS were pulled into automatic enrollment, the price of a bill that already lacks a fiscal estimate could snowball.

Speaker Julie Menin signaled support for auto-enrollment in Fair Fares, but stopped short of explicitly endorsing Hudson’s legislation, which would mandate automatic enrollment across the full range of city-created benefit programs administered by DSS.

“Speaker Menin strongly supports expanding access to Fair Fares, which provides targeted relief to riders in a way that budget watchdogs agree is cost-efficient.” a spokesperson for Menin told The Post. “Following today’s testimony, the Speaker will consider feedback from all stakeholders as Council Member Hudson’s bill moves through the legislative process.”

Hudson’s blank-check bill lands as Gotham is already staring down a budget crisis with city agencies ordered to trim costs amid a projected $5.4 billion budget shortfall for fiscal year 2026 and a $10.4 billion shortfall looming in fiscal year 2027, according to estimates from the city comptroller’s office.

Hudson did not respond to an inquiry from The Post.

Unauthorized Immigrant Charged with Sexual Assault of Elderly Women in Nursing Home

A Nicaraguan man, who was released into the United States during the Biden administration, is facing serious allegations of sexual assault involving elderly residents at a Wisconsin nursing home where he worked.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has issued a detainer for Julio Cesar Morales Jarquin, who entered the U.S. in 2023 under President Biden’s parole program. Despite the program’s termination by the Trump administration in April of last year, Morales Jarquin remained in the country unlawfully.

Authorities report that Morales Jarquin was employed at an assisted living facility in Dane County, Wisconsin—a region known for its sanctuary policies—when the alleged assaults took place. He is accused of sexually assaulting elderly women at the facility.

Morales Jarquin now faces two charges of second-degree sexual assault against an elderly victim. ICE officials are urging Dane County authorities to prevent his release back into the community to ensure public safety.

Morales Jarquin has been charged with two counts of second-degree sexual assault of an elderly victim. ICE agents are pleading with Dane County officials to ensure that the illegal alien is not released back into the community.

“This illegal alien is charged with two counts of sexual assault of an elderly victim at an assisted living facility,” the Department of Homeland Security’s Lauren Bis said:

This dirtbag was released into the country by the Biden Administration. DHS is calling on sanctuary politicians in Dane County, Wisconsin to not release this criminal from jail back onto the streets to commit more crimes. We need Wisconsin sanctuary politicians to cooperate with us to remove criminals from our country. [Emphasis added]

Dane County officials have shielded illegal aliens from federal immigration enforcement by telling ICE agents they must have a signed judicial warrant to take custody of an illegal alien in the county’s custody.

Such signed judicial warrants do not exist and are not required by federal immigration law.

Valerie Bertinelli’s Unfiltered Moment: Shocks ‘Today’ Show’s Jenna Bush Hager with Bold Language

Valerie Bertinelli’s recent appearance on Today With Jenna & Sheinelle took an unexpected turn when she got a bit too relaxed and let slip a couple of curse words on live television. The actress and author was there to discuss her latest project, a Lifetime movie titled Love, Again. In the film, she plays a woman navigating a new chapter of life and love after her husband of nearly three decades is diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s.

The first instance of Bertinelli’s candidness came when Jenna Bush Hager inquired about whether the actress drew from her own experiences with grief for her role. Bertinelli was forthright, admitting, “I did. It was incredibly therapeutic because I had been holding on to a lot of this grief that I had just experienced over the last few years.” She continued, explaining how her character, Caroline, mirrors her own struggles, saying, “Sometimes, you just want to fall apart, and I think you can see that happen to Caroline in this movie, where she’s just trying to hold it together.” Bertinelli then added, “I’m one of those people that no matter what I’m going through, I will put that happy face on so that I don’t bring my s*** to other people. Sorry, bring my stuff to other people.”

Jenna Bush Hager quickly reassured Bertinelli, laughing off the slip with a lighthearted “Beep!” and remarked, “Oh, it’s okay,” emphasizing the relaxed and friendly nature of their conversation. The trio shared a moment of laughter, with Bush Hager acknowledging, “We’re chatting with girlfriends! It comes up.”

The actress did not hold back in her answer. “I did. It was incredibly therapeutic because I had been holding on to a lot of this grief that I had just experienced over the last few years, even,” she said, before later adding, “Sometimes, you just want to fall apart, and I think you can see that happen to Caroline in this movie, where she’s just trying to hold it together […] I’m one of those people that no matter what I’m going through, I will put that happy face on so that I don’t bring my s*** to other people. Sorry, bring my stuff to other people.”

“Oh, it’s okay,” Bush Hager told Bertinelli when she apologized, before adding a playful, “Beep!” While the three ladies shared a laugh about the slip-up, Bush Hager told Bertinelli, “We’re chatting with girlfriends! It comes up.”

But it happened again later on when Bush Hager asked Bertinelli if she plans on dating again.

After sharing she has “beautiful love” in her life already from her friends and family, Bertinelli admitted, “There’s something about an intimate love with a partner, and I haven’t had a partner in over a decade, at least, where I thought we could become partners. So, I do miss that.”

She then boldly added, “But then, there’s another part of me that’s like, ‘I am so independent, and I can do everything on my own, so leave me the f*** alone!’”

The moment certainly caught Jones and Bush Hager by surprise as they both reacted with wide eyes. “Oops, that’s a second one!” Bush Hager quipped. Meanwhile, Jones admitted she “didn’t even notice it.”

“Geeze Louise! I’ll never be invited back again! I’m sorry! God, what is wrong with me?” Bertinelli said. “It’s the 66-year-old disease where you just don’t care what comes out of your mouth. I apologize to everybody out there. I’m sorry.”

As the actress apologized directly to the audience at home, Bush Hager announced Bertinelli would be sticking around for a cooking segment.

“I’m gonna cook for you, and I’ll make it all up to you!” Bertinelli promised as the segment quickly went to commercial.

Today with Jenna & Sheinelle airs on weekdays at 10/9c on NBC.

Prominent Men’s Rights Attorney Appointed as Immigration Judge by Trump Administration

0

Melissa Isaak has dedicated much of her legal practice to advocating solely for men, often asserting that women are adept at manipulation and seek attention by portraying themselves as victims.

Her criticism of women is so pronounced that she has claimed they have children merely to secure child support and spend their days at home under the influence of Xanax.

Isaak has even gone so far as to label women in derogatory terms, describing them as nothing more than “warm wet holes” on multiple occasions.

A former Alabama judge recounted witnessing Isaak “viciously dismantle women, including survivors of domestic violence, in the courtroom like an aggressive predator.”

“I have never observed anyone pursue women so ruthlessly during legal proceedings,” the judge remarked.

Now Donald Trump’s administration has made Isaak, 49, an immigration judge, a job that frequently will have her deciding the fates of single moms and abuse victims – the kinds of women she has made a living denigrating.

Her appointment has drawn scrutiny by legal experts who question her fitness to be a fair judge.

‘All sorts of vulnerable women will have cases coming before her. Whether they’re allowed to stay in this country hinges on her impartiality, which is in question,’ said Dana Leigh Marks, a Reagan appointee who served 35 years judging immigration cases.

‘This appointment is egregiously tone deaf. It exacerbates the feeling that [judges] are being recruited solely to grease the wheels for removal. They are not even bothering to try to hide their agenda,’ Marks added about the Trump administration.

Isaak declined to comment for this story, as did the Justice Department’s Executive Office for Immigration Review, which she now works for what the federal job posting indicates may be up to $207,500 per year.

In early April, that office appointed the right-wing family law lawyer to hear cases involving deportation and removal, asylum, bond requests and other immigration matters.

This, despite the fact that she and several other new appointees have no apparent experience in immigration law.

Isaak has kept her personal life private, but has made reference to being a wife and mother to kids who are home-schooled.

She made a name for herself in Trump World for defending three rioters who stormed the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.

She also was part of the legal team representing Republican Roy Moore after his 2017 US Senate bid in Alabama when multiple women accused him of sexual misconduct, which he denied, and he sued some of them for defamation. His legal attempts to clear his name largely failed.

A former child therapist and major in the Army Reserve, Isaak has spent the bulk of her legal career defending men in family law cases, mainly divorce and child custody battles.

Isaak previously represented January 6 defendants and was part of Republican Roy Moore’s legal team when multiple women accused him of sexual misconduct, which he denied

Records reviewed by the Daily Mail show her willingness to take the gloves off in court, portraying clients as victims of irrational, gold-digging and otherwise manipulative women.

In speaking engagements at right-wing and anti-feminist events, Isaak has referred to her experience as the daughter of a single mother she has described as ‘toxic’ and derided as ‘always bitching about child support.’

It was her mother, she has said, who aimed to teach her to ‘Use your vagina to manipulate a man to get the results you want.’

We attempted to reach Isaak’s mother for comment.

‘Women don’t know how to be women,’ Isaak has said of fellow members of her gender, whom she has generalized as expecting to be ‘treated like queens’ while getting ‘coked up on Xanax’ and ‘sitting home not doing anything all day.’

She has warned men against being ‘blinded by sex’ and cautions against a world full of women having babies simply to collect child support payments, which she calls ‘free money.’

She also has publicly referred to a woman she served with in the Army as ‘a dumpster whore.’

Isaak urges men – even those in seemingly solid relationships – to record and gather other evidence against their wives and girlfriends, including installing security cameras, as legal protection down the road.

‘The best time to build a case is when there’s no case at all,’ she advised.

Isaak will now preside over cases involving vulnerable migrants, including women fleeing violence (pictured: asylum seekers waiting to claim asylum at a border crossing in San Diego in 2019)

She has asserted that more men are victims of domestic violence than women — a claim that FBI data soundly contradicts. And she has spoken about raising her own son to be leery of women, especially independent ones.

‘Women are master manipulators. They are. Look, I’ve seen it. I was raised by one, and I’ve spent my career watching it. They’re master manipulators,’ she has said.

Isaak’s ‘warm wet hole’ verbiage wasn’t just a rhetorical slip-up or one-off. She has used that language on several occasions to chastise women for being shallow non-contributors in marriages.

She has contrasted ‘real women’ to women whose only value is sexual access, and said a ‘real woman’ should serve to ‘catapult a man’ financially.

‘If the only thing you have to offer a man is sex, that’s what you are. And guess what, guess who else has a warm wet hole? Every other woman out there.’

She has doubled down in response to criticisms of her remarks, even going so far as to quip that if a woman is not sufficiently ‘warm and wet,’ ‘you might want to seek some sort of gynecological intervention.’

Isaak’s appointment comes after the Trump administration ousted scores of immigration judges that it deemed inadequate for not kicking more immigrants out of the US.

The Justice Department has in recent months scrambled to fill those vacancies with candidates viewed as enforcement-oriented and ideologically aligned with Trump’s agenda to deport millions of immigrants from the country.

Records reviewed by the Daily Mail show her willingness to go full steam in court, portraying clients as victims of irrational, gold-digging and otherwise manipulative women. She is pictured in a Facebook post shared by her law firm

Her hiring in early April was announced along with 33 others – half of whom will serve permanently on the bench and the other half, like Isaak, will serve temporarily.

As the job is described, some of the new judges hear cases remotely, meaning they aren’t face-to-face in person with the people whose immigration status they’re deciding.

Isaak is among many with no apparent experience in immigration law, a specialty some experts say is even more complex than tax law, especially in light of a slew of recent federal cases either temporarily staying or permanently reversing Trump’s immigration policies.

Despite the increasing complexity, new immigration judges are now receiving less than half the training they used to, per Justice Department policy, which nixed a requirement that appointees have at least 10 years experience in immigration law.

Marks, now retired from the bench in San Francisco, noted that immigration judges don’t have nearly the time to weigh decisions nor the same level of support from clerks afforded to other kinds of jurists.

And, she added, unlike most judges, they can be fired if the Justice Department doesn’t approve of their decisions.

‘It appears as if the administration has changed their standards in order to pack the court with individuals who will superficially look at cases rather than look at them in a deeper fashion,’ she said of the new, laxer rules for appointees.

She also noted that stacking judgeships with political lackeys might backfire against the Trump administration because their rulings could be appealed and reversed based on records of obvious bias:

‘When there’s a basic disregard for impartiality, that’s extremely short-sighted.’

Jeremiah Johnson worked for eight years as an immigration judge in California after having been appointed during the first Trump administration. He is one of dozens fired in recent months without explanation.

All immigration judges, he said, ‘hear many cases involving domestic violence, gender-specific or gender-based harm,’ and Isaak will be no exception.

‘That is part of the job that you have to hear many accounts of horrific abuse, including rape and torture, against women.’

As the vice president of the National Association of Immigration Judges, Johnson said he couldn’t comment specifically on Isaak’s appointment.

He did, however, emphasize that, ‘The perception of impartiality is crucial to the rule of law.’

‘You want to have as strong and independent a bench as possible,’ he said. ‘That is what we stand for. And it’s what we’re working to preserve, despite many challenges right now.’

Judge Considers Canceling Comey Testimony Amidst Heightened Tensions in Trump Threat Case

(The Hill) – A federal judge in North Carolina has tentatively agreed to cancel an upcoming court appearance for former FBI Director James Comey. This decision comes in response to Comey’s request, backed by the government, to dismiss the hearing linked to charges of threatening President Trump.

Comey argued that after already appearing in court in Alexandria, Virginia, last week regarding these allegations, another appearance is unnecessary. He referenced federal criminal procedure rules, which stipulate that an initial appearance should occur only once.

Judge Louise Flanagan, who was appointed by former President George W. Bush, stated that she would drop the scheduled appearance if Comey submits a waiver by Friday. Should he fail to provide this waiver, the hearing would proceed as planned.

In their filing, Comey’s legal team expressed his willingness to complete any required waiver to assure the court’s satisfaction, should it be necessary.

Comey’s attorneys noted that the Justice Department supports his request for canceling the hearing.

Comey faces two charges stemming from a photo of seashells he shared on social media that displayed the message “86 47,” which prosecutors now say amounted to a threat on Trump’s life. The phrase “86” is commonly used as slang for removing or throwing out something or someone, and Trump is the 47th president.

The former FBI director has not yet entered a plea but has denied any wrongdoing.

When he posted the photo last May, Comey said he assumed the shells were a “political message” but did not realize the numbers could be associated with violence. He later deleted the post.

The charges Comey faces — making a threat against the president and transmitting a threat in interstate commerce — require evidence that he “knowingly and willfully” issued a threat to “take the life of” Trump.  They each carry a maximum possible sentence of five years in prison.

They are the second set of charges Comey has faced since Trump returned to the White House. The former FBI director is a longtime adversary of the president, since he was fired as FBI director in 2017 and that dismissal became central to former special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Comey previously faced false statements and obstruction charges stemming from 2020 testimony he gave Congress concerning leaks at the FBI. However, the case was dismissed over the unlawful appointment of the prosecutor who pursued them. The Trump administration has appealed.

The Virginia courthouse where Comey’s initial appearance took place was the same court in which his previous criminal case played out.
