Trump Predicts Swift Resolution to Iran Conflict: ‘Two to Three Weeks’ Timeline

0

In a Monday evening interview, President Trump indicated that tensions between the United States and Iran might persist for another two to three weeks. He declined to confirm if a cease-fire is still in place between the two nations.

During a conversation with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt, Trump stated, “One way or the other, we win. We either secure the right deal, or we achieve victory with ease. From a military perspective, we’ve already won. As I’ve often said, and others agree, they had 159 ships. Now, they have none. They’re all at the bottom of the ocean. Today, we eliminated eight of their small, fast vessels.”

Following the onset of US and Israeli attacks on Iran on February 28, Trump initially predicted that the conflict would last “about four weeks.” However, this past Saturday marked the end of nine weeks of hostilities, despite a nominal cease-fire being in place since April 8.

Trump added, “We’ve dealt with much of what needed to be done, probably another two, maybe three weeks. Time is not pressing for us.”

Earlier on Monday, US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that two American-flagged merchant ships successfully navigated the Strait of Hormuz. This marked the first day of a Trump administration initiative to ensure shipping traffic through this strategic waterway. Adm. Brett Cooper, CENTCOM’s commander, reported that the US military had sunk six small boats that were targeting commercial ships.

In response, Iran fired nearly two dozen missiles and drones toward the United Arab Emirates. The UAE’s defense ministry said it had intercepted 15 missiles and four drones, with authorities in the eastern emirate of Fujairah said one drone sparked a fire at a key oil facility, wounding three Indian nationals. The British military also reported two cargo vessels ablaze off the UAE’s coast.

When asked by Hewitt if the attacks by Iran would lead to a resumption of strikes by the US, Trump said: “Well, I can’t tell you that.”

“If I answered that question, you’d say this man is not smart enough to be leading the United States of America.”

Pastor Dolapo Lawal Raises Concerns Over Privacy in Marriage: ‘Why Is My Body Visible, But My Finances Aren’t?

  • Pastor Dolapo Lawal from Nigeria has ignited discussions on marriage transparency.
  • He emphasizes the importance of trust and access to personal information between partners.
  • His statements have elicited mixed reactions on social media platforms.

Pastor Dolapo Lawal from Nigeria has ignited a lively debate online by expressing his staunch beliefs about transparency in marriage. His focus is particularly on the importance of trust and the sharing of personal information between partners.

His statement, which has stirred diverse reactions on social media, was bold and direct:

“If you want to marry someone, ask them for their password. If they refuse, leave them and forget about the marriage. Every marriage should be based on transparency.”

Pastor Lawal’s comments highlight his view that complete openness in relationships is essential, advocating that unrestricted digital access is a crucial trust test before tying the knot.

The statement has polarized opinions across social media platforms. Some support his call for full transparency as a preventative measure against secrecy and betrayal in relationships. However, others insist that personal privacy should be maintained, even within marriage, especially concerning digital accounts and private communications.

Critics of the idea believe that trust should not be measured by access to passwords, but rather by mutual respect, communication, and emotional honesty. They argue that enforcing total access could create more suspicion than security in relationships.

On the other hand, supporters of the pastor’s view insist that hidden online activity is often a source of conflict in modern relationships, and that openness from the start may help avoid future misunderstandings.

As the debate continues online, the pastor’s statement has once again highlighted the ongoing tension between privacy and transparency in modern-day relationships, especially in the digital age where personal and shared lives often overlap.

LOS ANGELES — Tragedy struck on a Carnival Cruise ship voyaging from California to Mexico, as a woman lost her life after a fall from a balcony on board the ship.

The incident occurred when the passenger fell from the balcony of her stateroom, landing on the deck below, authorities have confirmed.

Those aboard the vessel report that they are still awaiting detailed information from the cruise line about the circumstances surrounding the event.

Carnival Cruise Line has acknowledged the unfortunate incident, stating that the guest apparently fell over the balcony of her stateroom last week.

The ship, Carnival Firenze, had set sail on April 26.

The fall was reported around 2 a.m. April 27, within the first few hours of the trip.

In a statement, Carnival said, “The female guest was traveling with family who alerted the ship’s crew of the situation.”

It goes on to say “as is customary, law enforcement was onboard while the ship was in Catalina Island on Monday to collect information. … Carnival’s Care Team is supporting the guest’s family, and our thoughts and prayers are with them and their loved one.”

One passenger says the FBI was among the law enforcement on the ship investigating.

The woman who died in that fall has not been officially identified.

Carnival says her family is off the ship and back home.

It’s unclear if there was any “family dispute” the night she fell.

This was a four-night cruise.

2048: The Year Cervical Cancer Could Disappear in the UK—Discover the Bold Scientific Breakthrough

0

According to a recent study, high-income nations are on course to eradicate cervical cancer by 2048, a disease that was once a leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women in the UK.

However, the study’s authors caution that without significant efforts to expand access to HPV vaccination and screening, women in less affluent countries will continue to be at high risk.

Published in the medical journal The Lancet, the study utilized existing national data on cervical cancer vaccination and screening to assess disease rates.

The findings indicate that improvements will be much slower in low- and middle-income regions, with only marginal decreases in cases expected over the next hundred years.

This disparity means the gap between high-income and poorer regions will significantly widen, leaving women in economically disadvantaged countries facing disproportionately high rates of this preventable illness.

‘HPV vaccination and screening have the potential to cost-effectively reduce cervical cancers by more than 90 per cent globally,’ said the study authors.

‘The driving factor of inequalities in cervical cancer incidence between lower-middle-income countries and high-income countries is the large difference in access to cervical cancer.

‘Unacceptably, these inequalities are set to increase through the inequitable global distribution of vaccination.’

Human papillomavirus, or HPV, is an extremely common virus spread through skin-to-skin contact

Around eight in 10 people will get HPV at some point in their life and their body will clear it without any problems, according to the NHS.

However, 13 out of the 150 varieties of the virus stay in the body for a long time and are known to cause 99.7 per cent of cervical cancers.

The study highlights the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) goals of vaccinating 90 per cent of girls, screening 70 per cent of women and treating 90 per cent of pre-cancer and cancer cases.

Achieving these goals could avert 37 million cervical cancer cases over the next century and accelerate progress toward elimination.

However, the models also suggest that many poorer countries are unlikely to reach these targets without increased investments in elimination efforts.

There are three types of cervical pre-cancer: CIN1 (mild), CIN2 (moderate) and CIN3 (severe). These are all abnormal cells that line the cervix.

If left untreated, roughly a third of CIN3 cases develop into cervical cancer within 10 years. The figure stands at roughly half after 30 years.

The majority of CIN3 cases are caused by a specific strain of HPV known as HPV16.

The authors say that recent advancements such as lower-cost and single-dose vaccines, expanded screening programmes, multi-age vaccination cohorts and efforts to include boys in vaccination campaigns can help make cervical cancer elimination feasible worldwide.

But this requires global, coordinated efforts from governments and international health agencies.

In the UK, mortality rates for cervical cancer have fallen by approximately 80 per cent since the 1950s.

This reduction is primarily due to the introduction of the national cervical screening programme and the highly successful HPV vaccination programme, with NHS England aiming to eliminate the disease by 2040.

However, the disease still leads to approximately 685 deaths a year in England.

The HPV vaccine has been offered to all British schoolgirls in year eight since September 2008 and targets high-risk strains linked to cervical, genital and head and neck cancers. Eligibility was expanded to boys in year eight from September 2019.

Experts have credited the HPV vaccine for helping to virtually eradicate the disease among women.

However, the jab, like all vaccines, does not offer 100 per cent protection, so women who have it are still recommended to have their regular smear tests.

One of the most famous people who had cervical cancer was Big Brother’s Jade Goody, who tragically died from the disease in 2009 at the age of 27.

Her public battle with the disease led to a significant increase in screening uptake in the UK, known as the ‘Jade Goody effect’.

Currently, women aged 25 to 49 in the UK are invited for a cervical screening check at their GP surgery every three years. For those aged between 50 and 64, it is offered every five years.

Screening is arguably all the more important for women aged 34 and above, who did not receive a vaccine that protects against the vast majority of cervical cancers as part of the school programme.

What is cervical cancer?

Cervical cancer is cancer that’s found anywhere in the cervix, which is the opening between the vagina and the womb.

It’s most common in women aged between 30 and 35 but it can happen at any age.

Nearly all cervical cancers are caused by an infection from certain types of human papillomavirus (HPV).

Women can reduce their risk by attending cervical screening, which aims to find and treat changes to cells before they turn into cancer.

Cervical cancer usually develops very slowly. How serious it is depends on how big it is, if it has spread and a person’s general health.

Symptoms of cervical cancer include:

  • unusual vaginal bleeding, including bleeding during or after sex, between periods or after the menopause
  • changes to vaginal discharge
  • pain during sex
  • pain in lower back, between hip bones (pelvis), or in lower tummy

Anne Heche’s Interview Tape Disposed in NYC Sewer Amid Tension Over Ellen DeGeneres Relationship, New Book Reveals

Anne Heche wasn’t one to shy away from rumors—instead, she faced them head-on. After a supposed intense confrontation with Fran Weinstein, she reportedly decided to take control of the narrative.

Fran Weinstein, a former producer for “Entertainment Tonight,” discovered the extent to which Heche would go to safeguard her relationship with Ellen DeGeneres. Weinstein detailed these experiences in her memoir, “Tortured Soles,” where she recounts her pursuit of celebrities within the exclusive realms of Hollywood.

In 1998, during an interview about the “Psycho” remake that featured Heche and co-star Vince Vaughn, Weinstein probed into Heche’s personal life. At this point, Heche’s relationship with DeGeneres was public, but rumors were swirling about a potential fling with Vaughn on set, according to Weinstein.

“After covering the basics, I asked Anne, ‘How much fun was it to work again with Vince Vaughn?’” Weinstein recounted to Fox News Digital. “They had previously collaborated on another project. She responded positively, but then her eyes widened as she sensed where I was headed with my questioning.”

Weinstein continued, “I then said, ‘There’s a rumor that you and Vince were an item during filming.’ Her reaction was immediate—her jaw dropped, and she insisted, ‘I don’t want this discussed. I don’t want anyone to know, especially my girlfriend.’”

“She had just gotten together with Ellen DeGeneres,” said Weinstein. “Their romance was new, and I guess she just did not want anything to muddy the waters, shall we say.”

Heche repeatedly told Weinstein she didn’t want to discuss the gossip. The entertainment news veteran assured her they were moving on. They spoke for another 15 minutes about Heche’s Christmas plans with DeGeneres. The interview was over — or so Weinstein thought.

“She gets up, walks to the door, we say thanks and goodbye,” said Weinstein. “She whips her head around and says to me, ‘I don’t want you to use that stuff about me and Vince Vaughn.’ I said, ‘No problem. I told you I wouldn’t. Have a nice day.’”

“The crew and I are now packing up, and I hear a knock at the door. It’s the studio publicist. She goes, ‘Fran, she wants the tape.’ I said, ‘What? That’s not happening. We don’t do that. That’s my notebook. Just tell her it’s all good. I’m moving on. I’m not using the stuff about Vince Vaughn.’ She said, ‘OK, I’ll tell her.’”

“We’re still packing up,” Weinstein continued. “Next thing I know, there’s another knock at the door. Now it’s her personal publicist. He said, ‘She wants the tape back.’ I said, ‘She’s not getting the tape, OK? This is a dangerous precedent, and we’re not setting it now.’ He said, ‘If you don’t give her the tape, you’ll never get another interview with her again.’ And I said, ‘I don’t care.’ I slammed the door.”

“We get to the elevators, and [out came] Anne Heche,” she said. “I’m wagging my finger in her face: ‘You’re not getting the tape.’ She starts screaming at me: ‘You don’t respect me! You don’t respect my girlfriend!’”

The two women allegedly erupted into a heated shouting match inside Weinstein’s St. Regis hotel suite in New York City, where the interview had just taken place. As Heche chain-smoked, Weinstein sprayed her with a lavender scent, she claimed.

Weinstein, exhausted by the back-and-forth, decided to lie down on her bed. She called the move “my fatal mistake.”

“I just felt like this wind came over me,” said Weinstein. “It was like a ghost had been in the room. I looked up, and she’s gone. And guess what? My tape is gone.”

Enraged, Weinstein stormed out and tore through the hotel hallway, threatening to call the police. A panicked studio publicist chased after her, she said, begging her to stand down because “it’ll get in the papers.”

Unfazed, Weinstein kicked open the door to Heche’s suite. She said she found the actress coolly getting her makeup done.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Heche allegedly replied when asked about the missing tape.

Weinstein wrote that by the time police were alerted, Heche and her team were already on a plane heading back to Hollywood. The incident went on to make headlines. At the time, a rep said that Heche “finished the interview, never left with the tape and doesn’t have it now,” Page Six reported.

To this day, Weinstein doesn’t know what happened to her tape. But she does have her theories.

“Years later, I was told by a pretty good source that she had instructed this person in her entourage to throw the tape into a New York City sewer,” said Weinstein. “She seemed to have no recollection of anything.”

Heche’s manager told Fox News Digital in a statement: “That account is inaccurate. It’s disappointing to see untrue narratives circulate at a time when honesty and respect should come first. The focus should be on honoring her memory, not rewriting it to sell books.”

The Emmy winner died in 2022 at age 53 after suffering injuries in a Los Angeles car crash. Her death was ruled accidental.

Weinstein, now retired, said Heche wasn’t the only star to leave her with a story she’d never forget.

In the mid-‘90s, Judith Sheindlin of “Judge Judy” fame opened the doors to her Tudor-style Connecticut home to “Entertainment Tonight.” By then, Weinstein had interviewed the legendary TV judge countless times, and the pair became friendly over the years and bonded over bagels.

But when cameras stopped rolling this time around, Weinstein casually asked her, “Don’t you know anybody you could set me up with?”

Sheindlin barked back, “Frannie, you don’t need a man. I’m going to show you what you need. Follow me.”

Weinstein said that as they walked to Sheindlin’s “incredibly plush bedroom,” she thought to herself, “Dear Lord, please don’t let this be a weird sex toy.”

Sheindlin climbed up a step stool and pulled a “shoebox-shaped receptacle.” She plopped it on top of her Italian linens and pulled out a .32-caliber pistol.

“Frannie, this is what you need,” Sheindlin told Weinstein. “[My husband] Jerry was gone for the weekend. I had this under my pillow, and I slept like a baby.”

“I was like, ‘OK, no further questions, your honor,’” Weinstein chuckled.

For the record, Weinstein did not take her advice.

Fox News Digital reached out to Sheindlin’s rep for comment. She told Page Six, “I have no recollection of the event Fran Weinstein references. However, if I did remember it, I would like to take credit for it — it’s brilliant!”

Beyoncé and Nicole Kidman Shake Up Met Gala with Rule-Breaking Moves

Nicole Kidman expressed her desire to don red for the “Costume Art”-themed exhibit, where the dress code was “Fashion Is Art.” She explained that she aimed to “embrace the way red has been utilized in art throughout the years.”

To her, red signifies “a powerful symbol of love, passionate love, vitality, power, and motherhood.”

In contrast, Beyoncé dazzled in a crystal skeleton gown paired with a sparkling crown, all complemented by an ombré feather cape trailing behind her. She elevated her look with Chopard jewelry, featuring an 18-karat white gold necklace adorned with a 6.41-carat brilliant-cut diamond, in addition to 140 carats of diamonds.

François-Henri is a French businessman and has been the chairman and CEO of Kering since 2005, while Salma’s net worth is estimated to exceed £100 million due to her film role and beauty and fashion endorsements.

It comes after Salma revealed one of the last thoughts she had when she believed she was going to die in a plane crash with her pal Penelope Cruz.

Actress Salma and fellow Hollywood star Penelope, 50, who have been friends for more than 20 years, had a terrifying experience when their plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Mexico.

Penelope already had a fear of flying and the pair realised something had gone wrong when a member of the crew dashed out of the cockpit and put on an oxygen mask.

During an interview for Vogue Arabia, Penelope asked Salma what she had learned from the hair-raising experience.

Salma told her: ‘You’ve always had a fear of flying and you always give me instructions of what to do if you die in a crash! [Laughs].

Ron DeSantis Strategizes for Potential 2028 Presidential Campaign

0

WASHINGTON — Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is actively traveling across the nation, setting the stage for what appears to be a promising 2028 presidential bid. He is honing his message, fostering connections, and striving to overcome the challenges faced during his 2024 race against President Trump.

At 47, DeSantis, who is nearing the end of his term in the Sunshine State, kicked off the week by engaging with business leaders at the Milken Institute’s global conference in Beverly Hills. Additionally, he is set to deliver the keynote address at the annual gala of the New York Republican Party on May 19 at Manhattan’s prestigious Plaza Hotel.

During a conversation on Monday, when asked about his presidential aspirations, DeSantis hinted at future possibilities. “I’m in my mid-40s. The year 2028, maybe even beyond that, provides a substantial runway,” he remarked. His response to The Post’s Charles Gasparino carried the undertones of a campaign speech.

In a reflective moment, DeSantis pointed to his achievements in Florida to bolster his potential candidacy. “Who transformed a state with 300,000 more Democrats than Republicans when he took office in 2018, to one with a 1.5 million Republican advantage?” he asked, referencing his own leadership.

“Who took a state that had more Democrats than Republicans by 300,000 when he got elected [in 2018], and now has 1.5 million more Republicans?” DeSantis asked, referring to himself.

“Who had a state that had a trillion-dollar economy and now has $1.8 trillion? Who has a state that had some school choice, now universal? A 50-year low in the crime rate? So we’ve got a good story to tell.”

A Republican insider told The Post of the Florida governor that “it’s not been a secret he’s running.”

“I think DeSantis totally thinks he can win,” said a GOP operative who frequently is in Florida. “He’d be top two in Iowa for sure.”

While Trump himself seems to have moved past the bad blood of the 2024 campaign, from which DeSantis withdrew following a distant second-place finish in the Iowa caucuses, some of his allies would welcome a chance to take down his fellow Floridian — again.

“Team Trump is chomping at the bit to destroy DeSantis one more time,” a longtime Trump operative told The Post.

When DeSantis launched his first campaign for the White House three years ago this month, he was viewed as a rising star who could redirect Trump’s disruptive populism into an even-keeled agenda of low-tax, low-regulation business stewardship coupled with conservative social policies.

Over the past year, DeSantis has been busy repairing his relationship with the president and is even considered to be a possible cabinet pick next year when he departs Tallahassee.

“His lane is: most competent and effective governor in our nation’s history who consistently delivers on every promise he makes,” said DeSantis’ former national spokesperson Christina Pushaw, who described the governor as having significant potential appeal to independents.

The GOP operative frequently in Florida agreed that “a lot of people like DeSantis.”

“This is a guy that I believe sees there’s a window to run for president, you don’t know how long it stays open, and once it’s closed, that’s it,” this person said.

DeSantis signed legislation in March to rename West Palm Beach’s airport in Trump’s honor, on the heels of facilitating the construction of Trump’s presidential library in Miami.

In one of his biggest deliveries yet for Trump, DeSantis signed a bill on Monday to redraft Florida’s congressional districts, giving Republicans an anticipated four-seat gain in the November midterm elections — offsetting a likely four-district loss in Virginia.

The aggressive redistricting move guards against a possible Democratic takeover of the House, which would result in Trump’s anticipated third impeachment, the end of his legislative agenda and an array of other investigations.

DeSantis golfed with Trump in February and March — publicly showing there’s no bad blood despite the president ruthlessly mocking him with the nicknames “DeSanctimonious” and “Meatball Ron” during the 2024 primary campaign.

Many Trump loyalists remain wary, however, and the governor would face stiff competition in 2028.

Polling shows that Vice President JD Vance is currently best-positioned to succeed Trump. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is also viewed as a possible front-runner and others, including Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), are likely to at least explore campaigns.

Lately, “you hear a lot more about Rubio. Rubio is the guy,” the Florida operative said. “Vance has his pockets, but overwhelmingly Rubio is the guy among most people … even, say, in Palm Beach.”

“It’s JD’s race to lose right now,” suggested a former DeSantis staffer.

“That said, there’s a million new cycles between now and a primary — anything can happen with a coalition that’s showing cracks.”

The former aide said that “DeSantis is by far the most effective, results-driven conservative executive in recent memory, but it remains to be seen if his team learned the right lessons from the [2024] campaign.”

“The country would be better off in every way should he stay on the national stage,” the ex-aide said. “The moves he makes in the coming months should be very revealing.”

DeSantis, born in 1978, is the son of a TV rating box installer who played baseball at Yale University before graduating from Harvard Law School in 2005.

He often plays up his humble origins, joking as recently as Monday about showing up to class in New Haven wearing jean shorts, a T-shirt and flip flops.

Before entering politics, DeSantis served in the Navy, including in Iraq. In 2012, he was elected to represent the Daytona Beach area in the US House, then narrowly beat Democrat Andrew Gillum in 2018 to become governor. He cruised to a nearly 20-point reelection win in 2022 against Charlie Crist, the state’s former Republican governor who ran as a Democrat.

MAGA not sold — despite Cabinet buzz

DeSantis’s candidacy in 2024 broke with Trump on many issues, and the president’s loyalists remain skeptical — noting the governor’s perceived social awkwardness that led to public scrutiny of everything from his choice of footwear to the timbre of his laugh.

As a candidate, DeSantis accused Trump of “running to the left” on economic, immigration and abortion policy and faulted him for listening to Dr. Anthony Fauci’s COVID-19 pandemic shutdown guidance. He didn’t push for sweeping global tariffs and vowed to move on from the “daily drama” of Trump.

After lapping the GOP primary field, Trump won a second non-consecutive term, winning the national popular vote and an Electoral College landslide.

Trump’s comeback campaign was masterminded by Florida political veteran Susie Wiles, an ex-DeSantis aide whom the governor fired in 2019 despite her role in helping him win his office the prior year.

Insiders insist Wiles, now White House chief of staff and the most powerful aide to the president, doesn’t hold a grudge against DeSantis.

“Susie isn’t in the business of holding grudges. She leaves that kind of baggage at the door and shows up every day to serve the president,” the Trump operative insisted.

“If there’s any issue from the past with Ron, it’s because his social awareness peaked around the age of show-and-tell.”

Trump himself told reporters last month that he’s open to naming the governor to his cabinet because “I think he’s good — doing a good job.”

The current betting is that DeSantis likely won’t join the administration, despite speculation he could be either attorney general or war secretary.

“Do you want to be defense secretary in the Republican Party, where a lot of the voters aren’t necessarily as gung ho about this war stuff, and you have a president who seems willing to go into war?” the GOP operative often in Florida said.

“I do think there’s reason to think that that’s not the right position to be in if you want to run for president.”

A former Trump White House official said that the attorney general role “made the most sense,” but added that acting attorney general Todd Blanche is “doing well” and may fill the position permanently — while the move could be “dumb tactically” for DeSantis.

The governor still has many opponents among the president’s core political team, even if Trump, the likely GOP king-maker in 2028, has warmed to him.

“No matter how many influencers he pays off, Ron will never be the heir to the MAGA movement,” the longtime Trump operative told The Post.

The former White House official, meanwhile, scoffed at the governor’s shifting approach to Trump, calling DeSantis “as authentic as a strip mall Santa.”

Still, Trump has made a habit of pulling former enemies into his orbit.

Rubio and Trump, for example, traded attacks in 2016, with the then-Florida senator even making vulgar insinuations about the future president’s hand size. Trump has since given Rubio an ever-mounting number of administration roles and mentions him as a possible successor alongside Vance.

The president also gave DeSantis a shout-out at a college athletics panel discussion in March at the White House.

“Ron DeSantis has been working very hard with us,” the president raved.

“Wherever you may be, Ron — Hi, Ron! — [he] has some great ideas and some great coaches that gave him some great ideas.”

Chelsea’s Efforts to Shield Enzo Fernandez Backfire: Insiders Share Frustration and Next Steps, by Kieran Gill

Enzo Fernandez has been dropping hints, and not very subtly either. He’s uncertain about what his future holds with Chelsea this summer. Reflecting on his past, he’s still surprised by his split with Enzo Maresca. He’s also shared dreams of living in Madrid, a sentiment he often expresses to his wife. Admirably, he speaks of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric as legends of the game.

When it comes to authenticity, Fernandez certainly knows how to keep it real, or perhaps even ‘Real’, if you catch the drift. It’s rather surprising that no one on social media used April Fool’s Day to jokingly suggest he’d name his next child after Florentino Perez.

However, beyond the banter, Fernandez has faced some criticism regarding his behavior with his Chelsea teammates. He has been known to call out other players publicly, such as his critique of Filip Jorgensen following a mistake during their 5-2 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. Additionally, he’s been quite vocal in the locker room after defeats, including their 3-0 loss to Everton in the Premier League before the international break.

Currently, his focus is expected to be solely on securing victory in their FA Cup quarter-final against Port Vale this Saturday, aiming for a shot at Wembley Stadium, and navigating the final seven Premier League matches to clinch a Champions League spot. With Reece James sidelined due to injury, Fernandez is set to take on the role of captain.

As Chelsea’s vice-captain, Fernandez finds himself at a crossroads. Manager Liam Rosenior faces a decision: should the 25-year-old Argentine continue wearing the captain’s armband, or not? Opting against it could send a strong and clear message.

Sometimes, leadership calls for such shows of strength, with Fernandez often angry after a defeat. It shows the passion of the player, the will to win and the hatred he has for losing

Maybe Rosenior will decide it is fine, but there has to be a consideration, as there will have been at Tottenham Hotspur when their captain and Argentina team-mate Cristian Romero was speaking up. Rosenior has already spoken privately with Fernandez once – two weeks ago after the midfielder cryptically said ‘we will see’ when asked if he will still be with Chelsea next season. Fernandez told Rosenior that words can get lost in translation. That same argument is unlikely to stand up now.

If Fernandez has grown disillusioned with what is happening at Chelsea, that’s fine, because we can all have our own opinion on their strategy. If he is itching for improved terms, that’s fine also, because he has seen others receive new deals as rewards since signing three years ago.

Whatever the motive, however, there are ways of letting this be known privately rather than publicly.

Chelsea showed a great deal of faith in Fernandez after Argentina’s 2024 Copa America triumph when he was filmed singing a controversial song, his club team-mate Wesley Fofana describing it as ‘uninhibited racism’ at the time. Fernandez apologised, and a month later, Maresca handed him the armband in a 2-0 Premier League loss to Manchester City, on the first day of their 2024-25 season and with Fofana in the same lineup.

Chelsea further protected their player after that controversial saga. Fernandez wasn’t put up for any of their pre-match press conferences in the Conference League that campaign, nor did we get to speak with him in the mixed zone after games, just in case we asked him about that chant.

That may add to the club’s feeling of frustration now, given what has happened during this international break. Chelsea were not involved in Fernandez’s interviews conducted while on duty with Argentina. Which is fine, usually, because the understanding is that those called up by their national teams will only answer questions to do with their countries, not their clubs.

That’s the general agreement, and it works both ways. He doesn’t speak about us while he’s with you, and we won’t speak about you while he’s with us. That line has been crossed here.

Chelsea insiders are disappointed. The relevant federation, in this case the Argentine FA, are supposed to recognise if the interview is the right one for their player, and outlets have used the opportunity to quiz Fernandez on Chelsea, Madrid and his future.

Fernandez is not the only one to have spoken up over this international break, of course, but others did it differently. Marc Cucurella criticised Chelsea’s strategy, but came across as respectful in doing so, as if he wanted the best for his club. Moises Caicedo, when asked on his future, said he is only focused on Chelsea and would like to become a legend at Stamford Bridge.

Fernandez is a fine footballer, and an important cog in Chelsea’s team. Rosenior cannot suddenly stop using him when he needs to win games and fast, including at home to League One bottom club Port Vale in the FA Cup quarter-final on Saturday after a four-game losing streak in all competitions.

When Fernandez next scores, maybe he will kiss the badge, pat it, perform a love heart to the supporters, though it will be hard to read too much into such gestures if so. On January 10, 2023, he scored for Benfica in a 2-0 win over Varzim, and celebrated by pointing to his chest and then to the turf, as if to suggest he was staying.

Twenty-two days later he was signing for Chelsea in a British-record £106.8million move. Fernandez tried to force through that transfer, including by personally phoning Benfica president Rui Costa, who later accused the midfielder of showing no commitment to his employers.

Fernandez is something of a performative player. Particularly when Chelsea are losing, we have seen him start scraps, as if to show his passion to the frustrated fans. It might be time for Rosenior to do some performing of his own, namely by handing the armband to someone who has not spent the last weeks inviting speculation on his immediate future.

Rudy Giuliani Dubbed ‘Ultimate Fighter’ as He Embarks on Promising Recovery Journey

Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City, recently overcame a severe case of pneumonia that was so critical, a priest administered last rites before his unexpected recovery.

At 81, Giuliani managed to breathe on his own and was removed from a ventilator on Monday, according to a reliable source speaking to The Daily Mail.

“He’s a fighter,” remarked Dr. Maria Ryan, Giuliani’s physician, during an interview with Fox News.

“Considering his condition yesterday was so critical, a priest performed anointing rites, and with all the prayers sent his way, his recovery feels like a miracle,” she added.

Dr. Ryan noted that Giuliani began feeling unwell after returning from a trip to Paris, marking the start of his health ordeal.

She said that after going to the hospital and being put on a ventilator, a Catholic priest was called to his bed to perform the last rites at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in West Palm Beach.

However, Giuliani eventually started to improve and has returned to breathing independently and speaking.  He was even able to communicate with his children Caroline and Andrew Giuliani.

Ryan added that she expects Giuliani to make a full recovery.

‘This guy’s got nine lives,’ she said. ‘Today he’s doing much better.’

A source stressed to The Daily Mail that Giuliani’s condition remains serious and he may spend several more days in the waterfront Florida facility, a five-minute drive from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence.

The former New York City mayor had contracted pneumonia on Sunday, which placed him in the hospital. He was reportedly in critical condition.

John Catsimatidis, a billionaire supermarket and media mogul and longtime friend of Giuliani’s, said he learned the encouraging news Monday afternoon from a former close aide.

‘He’s talking, he’s alert. To me, that’s great news,’ Catsimatidis said, according to the New York Post.

President Trump has praised Giuliani as a ‘True Warrior’ as well as ‘the best mayor in the history of New York City, by far.’

‘Rudy had a tough weekend,’ Giuliani’s business partner Tom von Essen said earlier.

Von Essen worked as the New York City Fire Commissioner during the 9/11 terrorist attacks when Giuliani was mayor.

‘Today is an important day,’ he added.

‘Mayor Rudy Giuliani is recovering from pneumonia. On September 11, Mayor Giuliani ran toward the towers to help those in need, which later led to a diagnosis of restrictive airway disease,’ Giuliani’s spokesman Ted Goodman confirmed.

‘This condition adds complications to any respiratory illness, and the virus quickly overwhelmed his body, requiring mechanical ventilation to maintain adequate oxygen and stabilize his condition.’

The 81-year-old held a livestream on his Facebook page on Friday night during which he could be heard coughing.

As it started, he said: ‘My voice is a little under the weather, so I won’t be able to speak as loudly as I usually do.’

Giuliani famously campaigned with Trump and a group of Republicans to overturn the 2020 election results, citing unverified fraud that later opened him up to defamation suits he settled in court.

‘Mayor Rudy Giuliani was the most transformative figure in the history of NY City politics,’ former deputy FBI director Dan Bongino wrote.

‘He pulled off an economic and public safety miracle in a relatively short amount of time, and the city rose from the dead. I worked for the NYPD during the end of his second term. It was the honor of a lifetime.’

In November of last year, Giuliani was pardoned by Trump, among other Republicans, for his role in trying to overturn the election against President Biden.

The former NYC mayor gave an infamous speech outside the Four Seasons landscaping business in Pennsylvania as Trump desperately attempted to claw back the presidency.

In 2023, Giuliani filed for bankruptcy with staggering debts of $153 million owed to creditors, including two Georgia election workers he defamed.

Giuliani was elected New York’s mayor in 1993 after serving as one of the nation’s highest-profile prosecutors, taking on mobsters and crooked Wall Street traders.

He was celebrated for a widespread crackdown on crime using the ‘broken windows’ philosophy and implementing the controversial stop-and-frisk program.

Giuliani ran for the Senate in 2000 but abandoned his race against Hillary Clinton after being diagnosed with prostate cancer.

He ran for president in 2008 before dropping out and backing John McCain.
