Christine McGuinness Exits Celebrity MasterChef: A Shocking Elimination Stirring Up the Culinary Competition

On Tuesday, Christine McGuinness became the latest contestant to be sent home from Celebrity MasterChef.

The 35-year-old model found herself in a tough competition, going head-to-head with actor Tamer Hassan, reality TV personality Jake Quickenden, model and socialite Emma Tynn, and comedian Jamie MacDonald.

Despite her efforts, Christine didn’t manage to win over judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace, admitting she felt a sense of relief about not advancing to the next stage and having to cook another round.

When her departure was confirmed, John offered words of encouragement, saying, “Thank you very much for all your courage, your great food, your big smile, and for being so brave.”

Reflecting on her journey post-elimination, Christine, who has been commended for candidly discussing her challenges with food due to autism, expressed pride in herself for stepping into an unfamiliar kitchen and attempting new culinary creations.

‘But I was well out of my comfort zone, that was too much of a stretch for me.

‘I’m happy I’ve done it, but I’m relieved I don’t have to keep practicing in front of the nation.’

The first task of the episode saw Christine tasked with making meal out of white sausage, with Christine whipping up a breakfast dish featuring tomatoes, bacon and eggs.

The second challenge saw the beauty create a dish based on her children’s favourite meal chicken nuggets and chips, with the star making a tiramisu for dessert.

However, the meal didn’t wow John and Gregg, with her accompanying dipping sauce failing to hit the spot while her tiramisu raised eyebrows as it lacked alcohol.

It comes after Christine was praised by the Celebrity MasterChef judges after opening up about her and her children’s struggles with food amid their battles with autism during Monday’s show.

The model and ex-husband Paddy McGuinness, 50, share ten-year-old twins Leo and Penelope, 10, and Felicity, seven, with all of whom have been diagnosed with the developmental condition.

Meanwhile Christine learned she suffered from autism and ADHD in 2021 after spending the majority of her life confused as to why she acted differently from everyone else growing up.

During the show’s first round the TV personality, alongside her fellow competitors, was tasked with whipping up a dish with one mystery ingredient.

While slaving over the stove Christine admitted: ‘I know that it’s going to take a lot more energy for me to try and shut out the sensory issues of the smells, the noises, the textures of the food on my hands and try not to get too overwhelmed by it all’

Autism refers to a broad range of conditions characterised by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviours, speech and nonverbal communication.

Christine later explained to judge Gregg Wallace, 59, who’s own four-year-old son Sid suffers from autism, why despite despite her sensory issues she agreed to appear on the show.

Saying: ‘My children, all autistic, really really struggled with food. The only way to really over come that us by facing your fears, is so you know, touch food and smell it, taste it’.

‘So even now, in my 30s I’m autistic, and I still eat a very plain basic beige diet, so for me to be able to come here and try and just be a bit more comfortable with [food]  in the most pressured place ever, in the kitchen, I really have got to do more, I want to’.

Then during the second round the hopefuls created food for a dinner party, which the Real Housewives of Cheshire star revealed that due to her condition and her ‘social skills not being great’ she avoided, opting instead to dine at home with her kids.

Following the show Christine said: ‘I don’t cook at all for anyone other than myself and my children. We eat very basic food, everything is dry, beige, sensory safe for us. Bread, plain pasta, chicken things like that we enjoy’.

‘But I don’t think many of our friends or family would like to come for a dinner party!’.

She continued: ‘Walking into the MasterChef kitchen for the first time was petrifying I have never been so nervous!

‘I remember thinking, when I had to memorise a dance routine for The Full Monty and learn Olympic sports on The Games, the MasterChef kitchen was scarier!’.

Historic US-Venezuela Flight Resumes After Seven-Year Hiatus

0

In brief

  • Flights between the United States and Venezuela have resumed for the first time since 2019.
  • The first journey, which featured a special Venezuelan menu, was celebrated by passengers and officials.

The first direct flight from the United States to Venezuela in seven years has successfully touched down in Caracas, marking a significant step in mending diplomatic ties between the two nations. This development follows the earlier removal of Venezuela’s leftist leader, Nicolás Maduro, by the United States.

This historic journey was operated by Envoy Air, a subsidiary of American Airlines. The flight departed from Miami at 10:26 AM local time on Thursday, which was 12:26 AM on Friday AEST, heading towards the Venezuelan capital. This comes as the U.S. re-establishes diplomatic relations with Venezuela after years of strained interactions.

Flight 3599 completed its journey in under three hours, landing smoothly in Caracas.

Aboard the flight were senior U.S. officials on their way to engage with the Venezuelan government—a scenario that seemed unlikely just a few months prior.

Upon arrival, some passengers captured their memorable journey by snapping selfies as they disembarked, commemorating this momentous occasion.

The flight symbolises the end of Venezuela’s years-long isolation by the US.

It also marks the reintegration of the Caribbean country into global airspace after a mass stayaway by airlines late last year, at the height of a US pressure campaign on Maduro.

To celebrate, two Venezuelan fire service trucks hosed the plane on the tarmac after its arrival.

Isabel Parra, a travel agent originally from Venezuela, said she had not returned to the country since 2018 and was “super excited”.

“For years, we had to go through Curaçao, the Dominican Republic or Bogotá, so having this direct flight is a real pleasure,” Parra said.

She said the inaugural flight cost US$3,000 ($4,165) but that ticket prices were expected to drop quickly, particularly once American Airlines starts a second round-trip daily flight on 21 May.

Oscar Fuentes, a 64-year-old Houston-based lawyer, was among the passengers queuing to board the return flight to Miami.

“It’s going to make life so much easier. Tonight, I’ll be able to sleep in my own bed!” said Fuentes, who previously had to transit through the Dominican Republic.

‘A new historic chapter in relations’

The flight featured a special Venezuelan menu of corn pancakes known as cachapas and a Venezuelan-style chicken salad, according to the airline.

Representatives of the city of Miami, a hub for Latin Americans that sees itself as a gateway to the region, greeted passengers at the gate, as did Venezuela’s ambassador to the US, Félix Plasencia.

The US charge d’affaires in Venezuela, John Barrett, was waiting at the other end.

“Today marks a new historic chapter in relations” between the US and Venezuela, he said in Spanish, adding that Venezuela was now “open for business”.

Some 1.2 million Venezuelans live in the US, and the thaw is expected to boost the US business presence in the South American nation, which has the world’s largest proven oil reserves.

But US President Donald Trump has also been moving aggressively to remove Venezuelans from the US, terminating a program that shielded migrants from deportation back to the nation.

On 3 January, US forces carried out a deadly raid in Caracas, snatching longtime US nemesis Maduro and flying him and his wife to New York to face charges of drug trafficking, which they deny.

Maduro was replaced by his vice president, Delcy Rodriguez, who has largely cooperated with the US despite her ideological background.

Trump has voiced satisfaction with her policies toward US companies and has tried to enforce compliance by threatening violence. Venezuela has moved to open its oil and mining sectors to private investment.

Trump in turn has started an easing of sanctions on Venezuela, with measures imposed personally on Rodriguez dropped.

American Airlines, which is based in Texas and has a large network in Latin America, started flights to Venezuela in 1987 and carried the highest number of passengers between the two countries.

It ended flights in 2019 as relations deteriorated, with the US and other Western and Latin American nations declaring Maduro to be illegitimate after an election marred by irregularities.

The US state department continues to call on its citizens to reconsider travel to Venezuela due to widespread crime but in March ended its blanket warning against any travel.

The new flight comes despite trouble in the aviation industry, which has been hit hard by a sharp rise in oil prices after the US and Israel attacked Iran on 28 February.

Virgin River’s Stacey Farber Addresses Future Role Amidst Cast Shake-Ups

Virgin River star Stacey Farber addressed her potential return to the series amid recent cast changes.

“I haven’t been informed yet. It’s always a bit of a surprise,” Farber, 38, shared exclusively with Us Weekly. “I’ve left and rejoined before.”

Farber remains open to returning in the future. “I love that the show is still going strong,” she remarked. “With the recent season airing, and knowing they often film well in advance, I’m uncertain about their current progress. I can’t confirm anything, but the idea of returning is exciting.”

Inspired by Robyn Carr‘s beloved novels, Virgin River centers around the intertwined lives of individuals in a quaint Northern Californian town.

Virgin River

Over the years, Virgin River has witnessed several notable departures. The series, rooted in Robyn Carr’s literary work, explores the narratives of small-town life, featuring characters like Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack (Martin Henderson). Since its 2019 debut, the popular show has also included performances by Colin Lawrence and Annette […]

In season 7, which premiered in March, Mike (Marco Grazzini) and Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley) were written out of the show.

“For me, I’m just trying to look to the longevity of the show and making sure that the characters that we’re keeping have enough story engine in them to keep going,” showrunner Patrick Sean Smith told Deadline at the time. “So I can’t say there are any specific cast shakeups planned, but I think we will have to start to — as characters run their course — make some decisions and bring in some new blood.”

There have been other major departures from the Netflix show over the years, including Grayson Gurnsey’s exit from his role as Ricky after season 4.

Mark Ghanimé, who played Cameron, also left the series once season 6 was released.

Virgin River Loses Marco Grazzini and Lauren Hammersley

Virgin River is returning for season 8 after several shocking cliffhangers — yet not every cast member is confirmed to reprise their role. The hit Netflix show, which premiered in 2019, is based on Robyn Carr’s book series and follows the lives of residents living in a small town in Northern California. That includes nurse […]

Outside of playing Tara on Virgin River, Farber has remained booked and busy with roles in projects such as Hallmark’s I’ll Be Seeing You opposite Tyler Hynes and Christine Ebersole.

“My character is a classic workaholic, who can’t let go of her job to just enjoy her life even a little,” Farber told Us of the film. “She goes to visit her grandmother, who she’s very close with, and her boss calls and says she needs to close a deal down the coast in California, where this is set. So, her grandmother pitches a road trip, a girls trip to her with her grandmother’s best friend as well.”

She continued, “They get in the car and get a flat tire, and that’s where Tyler’s character, Mark, comes in to save the day and flirt and impart wisdom about the necessity of enjoying your life and being more spontaneous.”

Virgin River is streaming on Netflix now.

Spirit Airlines Ceases Operations After 34 Years, Announces Immediate Flight Cancellations

0

Spirit Airlines has announced an immediate suspension of its operations as it awaits the conclusion of discussions with the federal government regarding a potential $500 million bailout. The fate of these negotiations remains uncertain.

The airline’s last flight, numbered 1833, marked the end of an era as it journeyed from Detroit to Dallas, landing shortly after midnight on Saturday. Over the previous day, Spirit Airlines successfully transported more than 50,000 passengers and is now focused on safely returning over 1,300 crew members to their respective home bases.

In a surprising turn, many of Spirit’s workforce discovered the news of the airline’s shutdown through media outlets, learning that their positions were at risk.

According to Airline Data Inc., Spirit had been set to run 277 flights on Saturday, all of which have now been canceled.

On its website, Spirit conveyed a message to its passengers, stating, “All flights have been canceled, and customer service is no longer available.” The airline expressed pride in the influence of its ultra-low-cost model over the past 34 years and shared its disappointment at not being able to continue serving its passengers into the future.

The Wall Street Journal first reported that Spirit was preparing to shut down operations early Saturday.

Earlier Friday, President Donald Trump said an announcement about the airline rescue deal was possible.

When asked if the administration had decided against bailing out Spirit Airlines, Trump told reporters on Friday, “I guess we’re looking at it. If we could do it, we do it, but only if it’s a good deal.”

“No institution’s been able to do it,” he continued. “I said ‘I’d like to save the jobs,’ but we’ll have an announcement sometime today. We gave them, we gave them a final proposal.”

ABC News has reached out to the White House for additional comment.

A spokesperson for Spirit Airlines declined to comment on ongoing discussions.

“Spirit is operating as usual,” the spokesperson said in a statement earlier Friday.

Other airlines have responded to the news, saying they will be ready to help stranded passengers in the event that Spirit shuts down.

American Airlines told ABC News it will offer fare caps on main cabin tickets for routes they share with Spirit.

Similarly, United Airlines said they’re “preparing to support Spirit customers in the event of a shut down.”

“We are ready to support customers who may be impacted if Spirit Airlines ceases operations, with a focus on helping people continue their travel plans with low-fare options,” Frontier Airlines posted Friday on X.

ABC News previously reported that Spirit could run out of the cash it needs to keep operating within days, not weeks, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Spirit filed for bankruptcy for the second time last August — having previously filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in November 2024 — to restructure financially and “reduce its cost structure,” with hopes of emerging from Chapter 11 by the spring or summer of 2026.

The soaring price of jet fuel amid the ongoing war in Iran has had widespread impact on airlines and travel expert Katy Nastro, of airfare monitoring site Going, previously told ABC News that Spirit could be out of time to try and turn things around.

“It’s never a good sign to file bankruptcy to begin with, but a second within six months, even worse,” Nastro said. “Spirit suggested that they were going to be able to come out of bankruptcy this time by the spring. We’re in the spring now, we have higher jet fuel prices — this is a recipe for disaster for them.”

What travelers need to know about Spirit Airlines shutting down

Bradley Akubuiro, a crisis expert and former Boeing spokesperson, told ABC News that losing a budget airline like Spirit will raise the floor on airfares.

“Frontier, Allegiant, and Breeze are still flying, but Spirit was the biggest, and in the markets it dominated — Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, a lot of the Caribbean — there isn’t another carrier ready to backfill at the same price tomorrow,” he explained. “The pain isn’t immediate. It’s structural. A fare that used to be $89 is $140 six months from now, and most consumers won’t connect the two.”

When airlines liquidate, they immediately cease operations without notice, which means that passengers will be stranded and employees will not show up to work.

Spirit Airlines is telling travelers to not go to the airport as all flights have been cancelled and that they will automatically issue refunds for any flights purchased through Spirit with a credit or debit card to the original form of payment. The airline said that guests who booked flights via a travel agent should contact the travel agent directly to request a refund.

Compensation for people who booked flights using any other methods, including a voucher, credit or Free Spirit points, will be determined at a later date through the bankruptcy process, the airline said.

“Unfortunately, despite the Company’s efforts, the recent material increase in oil prices and other pressures on the business have significantly impacted Spirit’s financial outlook,” the airline said in its statement. “With no additional funding available to the Company, Spirit had no choice but to begin this wind-down.”

There is generally no airline assistance when it comes to helping stranded passengers after an airline shuts down operations.

For any ticketed passengers scheduled to fly Spirit or already in the middle of their trip, below are some tips from travel experts on how to navigate the situation.

Don’t immediately cancel your flight, Nastro advised, adding that travelers who cancel forfeit their right to a refund. And make sure to keep all records and receipts.

If you booked with a credit card, you can dispute the charge with your credit card company and likely get the money back.

There is less protection if you booked with a debit card, but you can still contact your company to see if you can get reimbursed.

If you have travel insurance, she reminded customers to read the fine print as not all of them cover this type of scenario.

Per the Department of Transportation, customers could consider filing a proof of claim in the bankruptcy proceeding to try and get a partial refund, but the claim will be considered along with all the other creditors that the airline owes money to and you may only get a small portion of your money back.

If you’re stranded, check options with other airlines that might be able to offer relief flights, fare caps or emergency fares, like they would do after a big weather event.

Rihanna Surprises Fans by Whipping Up Pancakes at Local Pop-Up Stall!

Rihanna recently showcased her culinary talents by preparing pancakes at a pop-up booth during a Fenty event in Shanghai.

The 36-year-old music icon has been in the bustling city this week to further the reach of her beauty brand and its array of makeup products.

This visit follows Fenty’s official launch into China’s expansive market through Sephora, a milestone achieved earlier this year in February.

A video captured Rihanna’s pancake-making session at a Fenty Beauty pop-up hosted at the Shanghai Photography Museum on Tuesday night.

Featured at the event was a jianbing stall, celebrating the beloved Chinese breakfast pancake, where Rihanna took a turn as the chef behind the griddle.

Meghan and Harry’s Final Farewell: Analyzing the Bridge-Burning Saga and Its Lasting Impact

0

The first Monday of May marks a spectacular occasion in the fashion world, as the elite of society congregate in New York City for the Met Gala. This event is renowned for its glamorous display of style and influence.

This year’s gala will be overseen by the iconic Vogue editor Anna Wintour, who has spearheaded the event for over three decades. Joining her as co-chairs are tennis legend Venus Williams, acclaimed actress Nicole Kidman, and music superstar Beyoncé.

Funding the event are Amazon’s billionaire founder Jeff Bezos and his partner Lauren Sanchez Bezos, who will serve as sponsors.

Absent from the guest list once again are the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Despite Meghan Markle’s aspirations and interests in the fashion industry—an area she hopes will contribute to their financial endeavors—the couple has yet to receive an invitation to this prestigious event.

The Montecito duo were also, unsurprisingly, absent from all events during King Charles’s state visit to the US this week.

As if to further underline their persona-non-grata status, even Prince Harry’s boyhood friend Guy Pelly was at a White House garden party with his wife this week – yes, the same teenage tearaway who was by Harry’s side when he notoriously dressed up as a Nazi.

President Trump only reinforced the Sussexes’ unpopularity when he remarked to my colleague Robert Hardman that Harry had done ‘too many things’ to come back to the fold of his family, adding: ‘That wife of his. Boy, what she’s done to that guy.’

And yet – and it feels as inevitable as a tolling bell – the Sussexes still found a way to insert themselves into the media discourse this week.

A cover story in People magazine, long their favoured media outlet, came out on Wednesday, reflecting on their quasi-royal tour of Australia where they met sick children at a hospital and survivors of the Bondi Beach terror attack while also racking up nakedly commercial speaking engagements. According to the magazine, the trip is being hailed as the blueprint for the couple’s new working model.

The article was seen by many as a full-throated defence of their right to defy the Sandringham Summit by being half in and half out of the monarchy.

Anna Wintour is said to have turned against Meghan in 2019 when she collaborated with then British Vogue editor Edward Enninful on a ‘Forces for Change’ issue of the magazine

A source suggests Meghan has failed to make potentially useful friends in Lauren Sanchez and Jeff Bezos, a source says. ‘She snubbed Lauren before the [Bezos] wedding,‘ they added

‘Making their own rules,’ ran the admiring headline. But to what end?

For it’s all too apparent that the Sussexes no longer have the help of the powerful and influential protectors who could unlock a life of commercial plenty.

Speaking to sources in California, the story told is one of wall-to-wall fall-outs and alienation.

Put simply, it means in the circles that matter, Meghan and Harry no longer have any bridges left to burn.

One source says: ‘They have truly lost the plot. I hear she’s spiralling badly because she knows nothing is working. The whole thing about her [As Ever] stuff selling out isn’t true any more. I don’t think either of them are happy.’

The source tells me they believe the couple’s problems are worse than many suspect because of Meghan and Harry’s unfortunate habit of falling out with the very people who could help them make a go of things financially.

One of the prime figures in this list is Anna Wintour, who attended a charity gala with Charles and Camilla in New York on Wednesday.

The source says Dame Anna turned against Meghan in 2019 when she collaborated with then British Vogue editor Edward Enninful on a ‘Forces for Change’ issue of the magazine.

There existed a long-time rivalry between Dame Anna at US Vogue, and Enninful at British Vogue, and Meghan picked her side – unwisely, as it turns out. Enninful is no longer the editor of British Vogue. Wintour has stepped aside from day-to-day editing US Vogue but remains Global Editorial Director and Chief Content Officer at Conde Nast, and seems more powerful than ever.

‘Meghan pledged her allegiance to Enninful which p***ed off Anna,’ says the source, adding: ‘Anna hates her. Meghan doesn’t want to pay, and never returns things.

‘Also, Anna loves the Royal Family. She is a Dame. Anna would have hated how they [the Sussexes] handled their exit from The Firm.’

Worryingly for Meghan, the famously icy Wintour apparently never forgives or forgets. So even though Meghan’s friendship with Enninful is also at an end – for reasons which are still unclear – there seems no way for Meghan to return to Anna’s good graces.

Meghan’s attempts to insert herself into the high fashion narrative by attending fashion shows has notably not resulted in any commercial endorsements, writes Alison Boshoff

This is most unfortunate as there’s nobody more influential in fashion than Wintour.

Meghan’s attempts to insert herself into the high fashion narrative, by attending the Balenciaga show in Paris last year for instance, has notably not resulted in any commercial endorsements. Cringingly, Balenciaga designer Pierpaolo Piccioli let slip afterwards the embarrassing truth when he said the Duchess rang up and asked if she could come to his show.

For a self-confessed fashionista like Meghan, becoming an ambassador for Chanel, Dior or another major fashion house would be a dream come true – and a wonderful stream of revenue.

But Wintour is the kingmaker in this realm and without her patronage it remains out of reach.

The best Meghan could do was a cover of the less prestigious Harper’s Bazaar magazine in November 2025, which turned out to be a curiously fumbled chance – she barely plugged her As Ever jams and instead spoke about pursuing a career which felt ‘authentic’ to her and her pursuit of ‘fun’ over perfection.

It could, of course, have been very different for Meghan, because even Anna Wintour is not above flattery.

Consider how she has been carefully cultivated by Lauren Sanchez Bezos.

Married to one of the world’s richest men, Sanchez Bezos was happy to bend the knee to Anna, and accepted Wintour’s suggestion that she should be dressed for the Met Gala last year by Oscar de la Renta.

A source suggests Meghan has failed to make a potentially useful friend here, too.

‘She snubbed Lauren before the [Bezos] wedding. Meghan was invited to things by Lauren and didn’t want to go. She didn’t want to be seen with her because she thought she was trashy.’

Other powerful figures offended by Meghan are the Kardashians, who are also close to Lauren. The family’s matriarch Kris Jenner had her 70th birthday party at the Bezos house in LA in November last year. The party happened to fall on the eve of Remembrance Sunday, and was attended by Meghan and Harry, as the Royal Family gathered at the Albert Hall for the annual Festival of Remembrance.

Surprise was expressed by some that the Sussexes would party on such a solemn landmark. A row then blew up over pictures of them posted on social media by Jenner but later removed, apparently after a request by the Sussexes. The Sussexes denied they had asked for them to come down; Jenner’s daughter Kim Kardashian said the opposite was true.

As a result, says a source, the Kardashians have also had enough of Harry and Meghan: ‘The Kardashians are over them.’

If you are trying to make a lifestyle business fly on social media, it would be useful to be friends with the most followed people on the planet. But Kris Jenner hasn’t liked a single post on Meghan’s Instagram pages since last year.

And so, without the mutually beneficial relationships celebrities rely on, the Sussexes have been left to find other ways to maintain their profile, as they did this week.

On Thursday, as the US royal love-in continued for Charles and Camilla, an anodyne interview with Meghan (about her taste in clothes and ‘love’ for Australia and the Australians) was published in Australian Women’s Weekly.

She also reshared a message on her Instagram account captioned ‘Taurus, Leo, Scorpio & Aquarius ending the hardest seven years of their lives on April 25th’.

The post has been interpreted by many as a dig at the Royal Family, as seven years ago, in 2019, Meghan was settling into life as a working royal alongside Prince Harry. Megxit came the following year. Six years on, the couple are no closer to finding the long-term answer to their economic survival.

Meghan’s new big idea is making money by funnelling buyers towards the designers of her tour clothes via the website OneOff. For every sale, it nets her a slice of ten per cent of the value of the clothes she has worn.

Some believe the couple are now planning a similar tour in Africa.

More of this is likely in July, when Harry is due to attend a launch event for the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham.

It all feels murky because the couple’s activities are still being carried out with an implicit and explicit ‘Royal’ imprimatur.

In Ukraine on April 24, Harry was asked if he recognised the phrase ‘not a working royal’ and he replied: ‘No. I will always be part of the Royal Family and I am here working, doing the very thing I was born to do and I enjoy doing it.’

A ‘source close to Harry’ tells People magazine this is perfectly fine. ‘This idea he’s going against the wishes of the [late] Queen by being half in, half out is nonsense. None of this is being done in the name of the institution.’

He is then royal, and working, so a working royal… but at the same time he is not representing the Royal Family in that work, so nobody is allowed to object.

There is a sense he is tap dancing along a narrow semantic beam, living a ‘life of service’ and making a buck at the same time.

Just last week, Meghan was flogging her US Mother’s Day offerings on her ‘As Ever’ social channels, which include a small box of chocolate caramels, ferociously priced at $58 for ten tiny squares. Her Mother’s Day candles cost a similarly premium $64.

Her plugging clearly flew a little too close to the line of monetising their royal status, as a reference to ‘Prince Archie of Sussex’ and ‘Princess Lilibet of Sussex’ disappeared from promotional materials relating her Mother’s Day candles within a few hours.

People magazine was told, more than a year after its launch, that the As Ever business ‘is still in test-and-learn mode. [Meghan] wakes up thinking about new ideas and works on it all the time’.

For all the talk of ‘test mode’, though, the path appears to be set – ‘working royal’ engagements plus commercial ventures which will lean on their status.

One associate says: ‘They don’t have a choice at this point. They really need the money.’

The couple’s expenses are huge: that Montecito mansion, taxes and upkeep, security and travel, with some estimates reckoning they need to clear $5 million a year just to keep going.

Meghan is thought to have turned down deals to be the face of a capsule range at middle-middle fashion brands (I’m told American label J. Crew was interested). One wonders whether she can keep up this resistance to ‘lesser’ brands with bills to pay. It’s hard to see her current collaboration with OneOff amounting to much.

Of course, the most spectacular professional immolation for the Sussexes has come in the sphere of TV and film production, where Netflix has gone from being ‘all in’ six years ago, to ‘done’ now.

The deep-pocketed streamer walked away from a deal to back Meghan’s As Ever business earlier this year. Boss Ted Sarandos was even said to have joked that he didn’t want to talk to Meghan without a lawyer present.

To be fair to Sarandos, he tried to help Meghan and Harry save face when he invited them to an event to launch the second season of the prestige drama Beef in April.

Yet again, though, it all went wrong. Pictures of the couple were removed by Getty Images 24 hours after being published, even though Netflix had okayed them all.

The theory is Meghan didn’t like the way she appeared to be ‘clinging’ to Sarandos’s wife, Nicole Avant. My source is blunt about what is going on: ‘Nicole [Avant] hates her. So does Bela [Bajaria, a key Netflix executive] and Ted.’

As to why, it’s said Netflix came to understand the Sussex team were ‘briefing against one of their executives’, although it’s not clear if that was on anyone’s orders.

A source says: ‘Unless someone is of use to them with money or unwavering attention then [the Sussexes] always fall out with them. They are worse at dealing with people than they are with business. And that’s saying a lot.’

Expert Insights: Secret Service Success at WHCA Dinner Shooting Highlights Effective Protocols and Element of Luck

0

In a dramatic breach of security at the recent White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner, an armed individual managed to bypass a checkpoint, igniting a national debate over how such a serious security lapse could occur so close to the President of the United States.

The suspect, 31-year-old Cole Allen, now faces federal charges for allegedly attempting to assassinate President Donald Trump. Allen reportedly transported a firearm across state lines and discharged it during his intrusion, reaching just one floor beneath the venue where President Trump and senior Cabinet officials were gathered for the event.

The unfolding investigation has revealed an alleged manifesto written by Allen, suggesting his actions were driven by political grievances against the President and his administration. This revelation has intensified scrutiny over the effectiveness of the United States Secret Service’s protective measures, particularly during an era marked by increasing violence against political figures.

As the story continues to develop, the incident underscores the urgent need to reassess security protocols designed to safeguard the nation’s leaders. The suspect, Cole Tomas Allen, was apprehended by law enforcement following the incident. This breach has left many questioning how such a grave threat was able to penetrate what should have been an impenetrable barrier.

A photo from the scene shows law enforcement officials detaining Allen during the incident at the dinner in Washington, D.C., capturing a moment that has since reverberated throughout the country. The image, shared by former President Donald J. Trump on Truth Social, vividly illustrates the severity of the situation.

“I think the Secret Service’s model worked,” Bill Gage, a former Secret Service special agent and executive protection director for the SafeHaven Security Group, told Fox News Digital.

“But there was definitely a lot of luck involved that Cole Allen wasn’t better trained, wasn’t better prepared,” Gage added.

Within minutes of Trump, Vice President JD Vance and First Lady Melania Trump taking their seats to enjoy the annual festivities, authorities say Allen charged the Washington Hilton hotel checkpoint and fired his weapon, striking a Secret Service agent in their ballistic vest.

He was subsequently tackled to the ground and taken into custody.

Miraculously, no one was seriously injured in the chaos, and Trump was rushed off stage as thousands of attendees ducked for cover under their ballroom tables.

While federal officials — including Trump himself — applauded the Secret Service for agents’ quick-thinking, questions mounted about how an armed individual was able to get so close to the room holding a high volume of Cabinet members and celebrities.

“Obviously, the first family was not harmed,” Bill Stanton, a retired NYPD officer and security expert, told Fox News Digital. “No one was harmed, right? But that was not due to total professionalism. That was due to luck, the ineptness of the assailant and the redundancy – he should never have gotten that close.”

However, Gage suggests the agency’s protocol worked as intended.

“The [Secret Service’s] concept is like rings of security where you have an outer perimeter, an inner perimeter and a middle perimeter,” Gage said. “Each one of those is sort of like a concentric circle that overlaps. So if one ring fails, the other one can sort of pick up the slack.”

According to Gage, Saturday’s outer perimeter began with the agency’s magnetometers – where Allen rushed past authorities armed with a shotgun and other weapons.

“So the attacker, just through sheer surprise and speed, races through the magnetometers,” Gage told Fox News Digital. “He gets through that perimeter, he’s still not sort of scot-free. He’s going to interact with other agents as he’s trying to make his way into the ballroom.”

“There would have been agents assigned to the entry door,” Gage continued. “There would’ve been agents inside the event, just inside the door. So, I would say the Secret Service model was a success, because it proved that the sort of overlap worked.”

As details surrounding the alleged assassination attempt began to trickle out, new questions were raised regarding how Allen was allegedly able to check into the hotel the night before and remain undetected, despite having multiple firearms.

“The urban legend out there is that the Secret Service sort of swoops in days before an event, shuts the hotel down, kicks everybody out and name checks every single person there – and that’s just not the reality,” Gage said.

According to Gage, agents must strike a balance between maintaining a strong security posture and allowing public venues – like the Washington Hilton – to continue operating a business.

“There’s deliveries, there’s other workers that come and go – the kitchen staff, other employees, the maid staff,” Gage said. “There’s other people at the hotel that have nothing to do with the event. So the advance agent for the hotel or for the event is getting all these pressures.”

Additionally, the common misconception that the Secret Service is permitted to close off public areas is simply not true, Gage said.

“Is it theoretically possible that the Secret Service comes in and shuts down a thousand-person hotel or a thousand-room hotel the day before? Yeah, theoretically it’s possible,” Gage told Fox News Digital. “But logistically, it’s not possible. Financially, it’s not possible.”

In light of a third assassination attempt against Trump, Gage emphasizes the duty of the president to be reachable by the people he represents, as some are calling for Trump to cease all public outings.

“I think the office of the presidency, our elected leaders in our free democracy, have to get out there and meet with constituents,” Gage told Fox News Digital. “They have to shake hands, pose for photographs and give speeches. They have to be seen all over the country.”

Instead, Gage believes the Secret Service will simply increase their security posture.

“You’re going to see much more intrusive actions by the Secret Service on these public venues,” Gage said. “I can see the Secret Service, after Saturday, really inconveniencing the hotel and really inconveniencing the guests, and being very intrusive into the day-to-day operations of the hotels to have a sort of bigger security footprint there.”

Allen remains in custody as he faces three federal charges stemming from the alleged assassination attempt, with authorities indicating he will likely be slapped with additional counts.

As the investigation into how an armed gunman was able to make it so close to Trump continues to unfold, Gage is applauding the Secret Service for ensuring there were no casualties Saturday night.

“The Secret Service is made up of incredibly dedicated men and women who join the agency to protect the office of the presidency,” he said. “The agency is made up of incredibly talented humans that are dedicated and spend long hours on their feet, away from their families – and it’s even more incredibly stressful now.”

Discover 6 Superior Strength Exercises to Stay Lean and Fit After 60 Without the Gym

A lean physique is synonymous with preserving strength and flexibility as you grow older.

Many fitness enthusiasts aim to achieve a lean body, a goal that demands dedication and perseverance, yet offers substantial benefits. A lean body is characterized by a higher muscle-to-fat ratio, allowing individuals to effortlessly manage daily activities. This physique not only contributes to stronger bones and muscles but also enhances metabolic health and lowers the risk of chronic illnesses such as heart disease, type-2 diabetes, and osteoporosis.

“For me, achieving a leaner body is more about optimizing body composition than just reducing size. It’s about maintaining muscle, supporting metabolism, enhancing posture, and retaining functional strength and mobility—particularly important for women,” says Samantha Barker, co-founder of I Am Woman Retreat. As a certified yoga and Pilates instructor and a 200-hour breathwork facilitator, she specializes in creating transformative experiences that integrate movement, nervous system regulation, and community involvement.

Intrigued? We consulted with professionals to discover methods to enhance your physique and overall health. Here are six strength exercises that can help you maintain a lean body, proving more effective than traditional gym workouts, especially for those over 60.

Sounds pretty good, right? We spoke with the experts to learn just how to make improvements to your physique and overall well-being. To get started, here are six strength exercises that can help you maintain a lean body better than gym workouts after 60.

Pilates Bridge

“Bridge strengthens the glutes, hamstrings, deep core, and posterior chain – muscles essential for posture, metabolism, and longevity. Strong glutes are often undertrained and incredibly important as we age,” explains Barker.

  1. Lie flat on your back with bent knees and feet hip-width apart, arms at your sides with palms pressing into the mat.
  2. Push through your heels to lift your hips until your body forms a straight line from head to heels.
  3. Squeeze your buttocks, holding at the top for 2 seconds.
  4. Lower your hips back to the start position.

Hundreds

“The Hundred builds deep abdominal endurance while integrating breath and circulation,” Barker says.

  1. Begin seated on a yoga mat.
  2. Roll back, bringing your chin to your chest and hovering your shoulder blades above the floor.
  3. Extend your legs to a 45-degree diagonal. Bring them together and point your toes.
  4. Reach your arms forward.
  5. Begin pumping your arms.
  6. Perform 4 sets of 25 pulses.

Pilates Plank

“A Pilates plank is total-body strength training. What makes it different is the emphasis on alignment and breath. I focus on a lateral breath, expanding into the side and back ribs while maintaining core support,” Barker points out.

  1. Place your hands under your shoulders.
  2. Press into the pads of your fingers and hug your inner arm toward your armpit.
  3. Walk your feet out to hip-width.
  4. Engage your abs, squeeze your buttocks, and pull upward through your quads.
  5. Hold the position while maintaining solid form.

Squats

“Whether it’s bodyweight squats, goblet squats, or split squats, this movement targets the glutes, quads, and hamstrings—some of the largest muscle groups in the body. Maintaining strength in these areas helps support metabolism, improve mobility, and preserve independence as we age,” explains Corry Matthews, a fitness, nutrition, and hormone health expert with more than 25 years of experience helping women feel strong, confident, and in sync with their bodies. Matthews is also a former professional bodybuilder and the co-founder of Strength & Grace Fitness.

  1. Stand tall with your feet shoulder-width apart.
  2. Extend your arms in front of you or place your hands on your hips. Use a chair for support, if necessary.
  3. Bend at the knees and hips as you lower into a squat.
  4. Use control to descend until your thighs assume a “sitting” position or lower.
  5. Press through your heels to return to standing.

Pushups

“Pushups are excellent for building upper-body strength and core stability,” Matthews tells us. “Whether performed on a wall, bench, or floor, they strengthen the chest, shoulders, arms, and core while improving functional strength.”

  1. Start in a high plank with your hands under your shoulders and your body straight from head to heels.
  2. Activate your core.
  3. Bend your elbows to lower your chest toward the floor. Maintain a long, straight body as you lower.
  4. Press back up, straightening your arms.

Step-Ups

“Step-ups are a functional lower-body exercise that improves leg strength, balance, and cardiovascular endurance. They mimic everyday movement patterns like climbing stairs while strengthening the glutes and legs,” Matthews says. “And this exercise can easily be done with any staircase—added stability with a railing already nearby.”

  1. Begin by standing tall, facing a sturdy workout bench, plyometric box, or step that’s about knee level. Hold an option dumbbell in each hand.
  2. Place your left foot firmly onto the surface, keeping your core engaged and chest tall.
  3. Press through your left heel to lift your body until your left leg is straight and you’re standing on the surface.
  4. Use control to lower back to the start position.
  5. Repeat on the other side.

U.S. Cautions Shipping Firms: Hormuz Toll Payments to Iran May Lead to Sanctions

0

The United States has issued a warning to shipping companies, cautioning them about potential sanctions if they pay Iran for safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

This warning, released by the US Office of Foreign Assets Control on Friday, intensifies the ongoing tension between the US and Iran regarding control over this critical waterway.

The Strait of Hormuz is a vital channel, with approximately 20% of the world’s oil and natural gas shipments passing through it during times of peace.

The situation escalated when Iran effectively disrupted normal passage through the strait by attacking and threatening vessels, following the onset of hostilities by the US and Israel on February 28.

In response, Iran began offering certain ships an alternative route along its coastline, sometimes imposing charges for this redirected safe passage.

That “tollbooth” effort is the focus of the US sanctions warning.

The payment demands could include transfers not only in cash but also “digital assets, offsets, informal swaps, or other in-kind payments,” including charitable donations and payments at Iranian embassies, OFAC said.

“OFAC is issuing this alert to warn US and non-US persons about the sanctions risks of making these payments to, or soliciting guarantees from, the Iranian regime for safe passage. These risks exist regardless of payment method,” it said.

The US responded to Iran’s closure of the strait with a naval blockade of its own on April 13, preventing any Iranian tankers from leaving and depriving Iran of oil revenue it needs to shore up its ailing economy.

The US Central Command said 45 commercial ships have been told to turn around since the blockade began.

The warning came as President Trump swiftly rejected Iran’s latest proposal to end the war between the countries.

“They want to make a deal, I’m not satisfied with it, so we’ll see what happens,” Trump said Friday at the White House.

He didn’t elaborate on what he saw as its shortcomings but expressed frustration with the Iranian leadership.

“It’s a very disjointed leadership,” Trump said. “They all want to make a deal, but they’re all messed up.”

Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency reported Iran handed over its plan to mediators in Pakistan on Thursday night.

The shaky three-week ceasefire between the US and Iran appears to be holding, though both countries have traded accusations of violations.

The standoff is increasingly putting pressure on the global economy, driving up prices and leading to shortages of fuel and other products tied to the oil industry.

Negotiations continued by phone after Trump called off his envoys’ trip to Pakistan last week, the president said.

Trump this week floated a new plan to reopen the critical passageway used by America’s Gulf allies to export their oil and gas.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has briefed many of his regional counterparts on the country’s initiatives to end the war, according to his social media.

He also held talks Friday with European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, who is in contact with the EU’s Gulf partners.
