Heartbreaking Incident: Kittens Rescued After Being Tossed from Vehicle in Melbourne
A six-week-old kitten is recovering in foster care and another is missing after the pair were seen being thrown from a moving car in Melbourne’s west.

Following a distressing incident, one of the kittens remains missing, while the other was swiftly taken to Lort Smith Animal Hospital after being found by a passerby and rushed to the emergency department.

The kitten, now named Dorothy, is currently receiving treatment for a suspected fractured pelvis and is being cared for in a foster home between hospital visits.

“It’s unfathomable how anyone could inflict such harm on animals, especially vulnerable six-week-old kittens,” expressed Dr. Jessica Wilde, chief veterinarian at Lort Smith Animal Hospital.

“Our team was and continues to be heartbroken by this event. Remarkably, little Dorothy is showing incredible resilience, and we are dedicated to doing everything possible to aid in her recovery.”

Dr. Wilde emphasized that there is “no excuse” for the actions of the individual responsible for throwing the kittens.

“There are hundreds and hundreds of vets around the state and many shelters who would take animals like Dorothy into their care,” Wilde said.

“Tossing them out of a window is simply unacceptable and beyond cruel.”

Lort Smith nurse Jordan is taking care of Dorothy while the kitten continues to receive treatment.

“She is such a beautiful little girl and despite her terrible start to life, is getting stronger every day, we will make sure to stay by her side and give her all the love and care she needs to get through this traumatic event,” Jordan said.

TAMPA, Fla. – In a surprising turn during a bill signing event on Monday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis urged state legislators to prohibit cousin marriages in the state. The call to action came amid discussions over a newly signed law aimed at addressing terrorism-related concerns.

At the Tampa press conference, DeSantis officially enacted HB 1471, a piece of legislation empowering the state to label certain groups as terrorist organizations. However, it was the governor’s comments on cousin marriages that captured widespread attention, as he introduced the topic unexpectedly alongside the primary legislative focus.

But while speaking about the new legislation, the governor also brought up a rather strange issue that made headlines in recent weeks.

“Florida doesn’t ban cousin marriage… That’s a hanging curveball for us to do,” he said. “We need to do that. Other states have done it. I don’t know why we wouldn’t. But obviously, that feeds in to some of the stealth jihad that we see when you’re allowing things like that.”

IS IT ACTUALLY LEGAL TO MARRY YOUR COUSIN IN FLORIDA?

Current law already prohibits incestuous marriages, such as those between siblings, parents, nieces, nephews, and grandparents.

However, first cousins aren’t included on that list, leaving Florida among 16 states that currently have no restrictions on such marriages. Other states are as follows:

  • Alabama

  • Alaska

  • California

  • Colorado

  • Florida

  • Georgia

  • Hawaii

  • Maryland

  • Massachusetts

  • New Jersey

  • New Mexico

  • New York

  • Rhode Island

  • South Carolina

  • Vermont

  • Virginia

  • North Carolina (first-cousin marriages are allowed, but not double first cousins)

WHAT HAS BEEN DONE SO FAR?

Back in December, a new bill — HB 733 — was filed by state Rep. Anne Gerwig (R-Greenacres), though it deals with a lot more than just marriage.

In fact, the bill aimed for a variety of changes involving the Department of Health and Florida’s healthcare workforce.

However, a smaller provision included in the bill sought to include first cousins in the list of prohibited incestuous marriages. So far, well over 20 states already have blanket bans on these.

That said, HB 733 ultimately died after the Legislative deadline passed, despite both the House and Senate approving versions of the bill.

IS IT TOO LATE TO PASS A BILL THIS YEAR?

Lawmakers will need to return this month to pass a budget, as they failed to do so during the regular Legislative session.

Furthermore, DeSantis called for a special session on redistricting, which is set to kick off on April 20.

While no details have been shared about whether similar legislation to HB 733 will be introduced during these sessions, the window remains open for lawmakers to address the issue this year.

California Governor Gavin Newsom’s ambitious high-speed rail project is facing significant financial hurdles, with experts predicting costs could soar to $126 billion without any track yet laid. Initially greenlit in 2008, the venture was supposed to be completed by 2020, with an original budget of $33 billion. Since its inception, the project has been a target of criticism, often mocked by figures such as Donald Trump.

Anthony Williams, a member of the state’s high-speed rail board, recently discussed the project’s financial trajectory in an interview with 60 Minutes. He indicated the costs could potentially quadruple by the project’s completion.

“With proper optimization, our current estimate stands at just over $125 billion,” Williams stated, adding, “The latest figure is around $126 billion.”

To put this into perspective, the projected expenditure exceeds the total funding Amtrak has received throughout its history, yet still leaves a funding gap of approximately $90 billion.

‘That’s more funding than Amtrak has received in its history and still leaves a shortfall of roughly $90 billion.’

Williams, however, said the state would be able to find a way to fill the shortfall by cutting costs and luring private investment.

Republicans, however, remain hugely skeptical, especially after Donald Trump announced he was canceling $4billion in federal grants for the train, calling it ‘the worst cost overrun I’ve ever seen.’

Congressman Vince Fong called the entire project a ‘bait and switch’ that needs to be done away with. 

‘I think that the California High-Speed Rail nightmare is the probably quintessential example of government waste and mismanagement,’ Fong said.

Toks Omishakin, California’s secretary of transportation, said that some of the criticism is valid.

‘I don’t think the voters fully understood and neither did we in the public sector what it was gonna take to actually get this project delivered,’ he said.

Sean Duffy, Trump’s Secretary of Transportation, said the project was a blight on the White House’s plans for a ‘Golden Age of Transportation.’

He said they won’t support ‘boondoggle projects like Newsom’s Train to Nowhere that wasted billions in taxpayer dollars yet delivered nothing to the American people.’

‘Under President Trump, America is building again. We defunded Newsom’s disaster and created the first Trump Infrastructure Dividend. Those dollars will now actually fund critical projects that enhance safety on rail networks across America.’

Newsom didn’t respond to 60 Minutes’ requests for an interview. 

When reached by The Daily Mail, a spokesperson for the California High-Speed Rail Authority disagreed with the framing in the media.

‘These claims ignore the facts on the ground,’ a spokesperson said while hyping the benefits of the project’s eventual completion, including ‘16,000 good-paying construction jobs’ and $25billion in economic impact.

The Authority also promised that the first installation will take place in the Central Valley later in 2026.

‘High‑speed rail anywhere in the world requires sustained investment and time,’ the spokesman said. 

‘Even so, California is now entering a new phase focused on accelerating delivery, expanding into population centers, and unlocking private investment.’

The state has put in another $20billion through 2045 to continue building. 

‘That work is underway, and it’s not stopping despite opposition and obstruction by the federal government.’

The high-speed rail was supposed to be the first of its kind in the US when it was approved in 2008. 

It was also supposed to be completed by 2020 and cost $33 billion, yet zero train tracks have been laid and estimates now say it will likely cost up to $128 billion. 

In 2025, Trump ridiculed the project and canceled several billion in government grants.

‘The railroad we were promised still does not exist, and never will,’ the president’s post continued. ‘This project was severely overpriced, overregulated, and never delivered.’

The Transportation Department announced it was rescinding $4 billion in funding for the mega-project in recent weeks. Less than a quarter of the project’s funding came from federal coffers. 

In a press release, the DOT noted ‘the $135 billion projected total cost of the project could buy every San Francisco and LA resident nearly 200 roundtrip flights between the cities.’

The massive delays and cost overruns prove the California government highlight its ‘incompetence,’ Duffy said in a statement.  

‘It’s time for this boondoggle to die. President Trump and I will always fight to ensure your tax dollars only go to projects that accomplish great, big, beautiful things.’ 

California High Speed Rail Authority CEO Ian Choudri shared that the state would fight the administration’s move in court. 

‘These are legally binding agreements, and the authority has met every obligation, as confirmed by repeated federal reviews, as recently as February 2025,’ he said in a statement. 

The railway authority claims 171 miles are under active construction and design, adding that over 50 ‘major structures’ have been completed since construction began in 2015.

Tragedy struck an Arkansas Walmart when an employee, simply carrying out her duties, was reportedly stabbed to death in a horrifying incident described by authorities as a “random act of violence.” The unsettling event unfolded at the Walmart located on Skyline Drive in Conway, roughly 30 miles north of Little Rock, late on the night of March 31.

Zeddrick Ross, 37, stands accused of first-degree murder in the death of 32-year-old Jordanne Drinkwater, the Conway Police Department said.

Police officers were dispatched around 11 p.m. responding to reports of an ongoing stabbing. Upon arrival, they allegedly encountered the suspect, still wielding a knife. In an attempt to subdue the attacker, an officer discharged a firearm but missed, while another officer successfully deployed a Taser, allowing them to apprehend the suspect. Tragically, the victim, identified as Drinkwater, was pronounced dead by medical personnel at the scene.

Details from an arrest affidavit, as reported by Law&Crime, reveal a troubling narrative. The suspect, Ross, reportedly believed he was being pursued by a demon. In response to this delusion, he allegedly stole a large knife from a nearby Walgreens, followed by a machete from the Walmart. Ross claimed the demon appeared to him as a light-skinned Black woman with brown eyes and a weave.

Mistaking Drinkwater for this perceived demon, Ross allegedly attacked her, inflicting fatal stab wounds to her shoulder and neck. This senseless act has left a community in mourning and raised questions about the circumstances leading up to this tragic event.

He saw Drinkwater from a distance and thought she was the demon, so he allegedly stabbed her in the shoulder and neck.

“After the stabbing Zeddrick looked down and realized that the female laying on the ground was not the demon, and looked nothing like the demon he thought he was killing,” cops wrote. “The individual he was stabbing was actually Jordanne Drinkwater, who is an employee of Walmart who was just working her normal shift.”

Cops are still working to see if there was any other motive or connection between the two.

“I hate to sit there and speculate and say anything like ‘random act of violence,’ but it truly was—there was no correlation between the [victim and suspect] that we found yet, or I was not informed of,” police spokesman Daniel Hogan told local ABC affiliate KATV.

Those who knew Drinkwater spoke highly of her.

“I never met somebody as pure as Jordan,” her friend Sam Slaughter told KATV. “I still don’t understand why it had to be her. She helped change my entire life for the better — everything from staying sober to the way I think about the world and how it works and not putting more hate into it and just trying to do better. She was an amazing human being. She’s going to be so, so missed.”

Ross is at the Faulkner County Jail on a $1 million bond. He’s next slated to appear in court on April 20.

It has been reported that he is earning as little as £70,000-a-week – way down on what some of Europe’s top players take home – so may be looking for a hike on that front. Whether Liverpool can offer that is another matter.

He won’t be short of suitors if he does leave, but it feels it would be a shame if he did, with Liverpool arguably the best place for him to continue from a footballing point of view.

A world class centre back at his best, that seems to be in the past now, and it’s a doubt whether he will make the England squad for the World Cup in the summer.

He will likely wave goodbye to City after 10 years – but may not be done with football yet.

Talks have been ongoing for a while around a new contract for Harry Maguire at Manchester United, but any new deal is yet to be confirmed.

A former United captain and former £80million defender, Maguire is on a reported £190,000-a-week. Though he still very much has a role to play with the Red Devils – and maybe England – that is too much for that very role.

If he does sign a new deal, it’s expected he will take a hefty pay cut. But after a rise in form under Michael Carrick and resilience to stay at the club and fight for his place, he has probably earned himself a new deal.

Daily Mail Sport reported two weeks ago that Maguire is close to agreeing a contract that will keep him at Manchester United next season – but wants to know he is still valued by the club.

Scotland captain Andy Robertson is another Liverpool player on this list, but one feels that his potential departure would hit a little harder for Reds fans than Konate’s.

Robertson joined Liverpool for a measly £8.5million in the summer of 2017, and went on to become a main character in the Jurgen Klopp era, winning the Champions League and two Premier League titles at the club.

Now, though, he is behind Milos Kerkez in the pecking order and it remains to be seen whether he will sign a new deal at Anfield. The latest name to be confirmed to be on his way in the summer is Silva. The Portugal international made it clear to reporters at the Club World Cup last June that this would be his final campaign but had stopped short of making an official announcement.

Silva is gunning to secure a seventh Premier League title before his departure, with City nine points behind leaders Arsenal with a game in hand.

The 31-year-old, who believes it is too early for a return to Benfica, has options in the MLS while Juventus have hoped to persuade him into signing.

It was on January 22 that Manchester United confirmed Casemiro would be leaving the club at the end of the season. After a tough three years in red, the Brazil midfielder has found form this year, and United could be reconsidering their decision.

He is, though, earning £350,000-a-week. No chance he would earn that in any new deal.

Arguably the biggest name in this team, Mohamed Salah is a bit of an anomaly.

The Liverpool icon will depart Anfield at the end of the season, but he isn’t actually out of contract. After a long-running summer saga last year, he penned a two-year deal to stay at the club, but this year hasn’t gone to plan.

Whether it’s confidence or ability, the Egyptian King looks a shadow of his former self in Liverpool red. Despite that, he has still picked up 19 goal involvements – 10 goals and nine assists – in 35 games.

But the time has come for him to say goodbye and it was announced at the end of last month that the 33-year-old will be looking for a new club in the summer.

Whether that is a top European side or a team elsewhere, Salah is well and truly now on his farewell tour as a Liverpool player.

The nightmare that has been Jadon Sancho’s Manchester United career will finally come to an end in the summer when his £250,000-a-week deal expires.

Things haven’t been the same for the former England winger since a public fall out with former manager Erik ten Hag in 2023. That, plus a pretty sensational dip in form since, may well leave him scrambling around for clubs.

That said, he has had loan spells with Chelsea and Aston Villa in the last two years, but the Blues did pay to ensure they didn’t have to make his temporary stay permanent.

The 26-year-old has one goal and three assists in 31 appearances in all competitions this season.

Robert Lewandowski has done the rounds at some of Europe’s top clubs, playing for the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, and now Barcelona. And, to summarise his career, he scored goals wherever he has played.

But he is now 37, and there is continued uncertainty around his future. His Barca contract is up at the end of the season, and it appears officials at the club are torn on whether to offer him a new one.

He’ll have the World Cup off after Poland failed to qualify in the latest international break, and it will be a summer of big decisions on both the club and player’s side.

If he does leave, despite his age, he will have no shortage of suitors.

Marcos Senesi seems set to leave Bournemouth in the summer with there being little breakthrough in contract talks. Barcelona are thought to be one of the clubs interested.

Antonio Rudiger has run his contract down at Real Madrid, but it appears a new one-year deal is on the verge of being agreed.

Andreas Christensen is another former Chelsea defender who could leave Spain, with his contract at Barcelona up soon. He has fallen down the pecking order at the Catalan giants.

Harry Wilson will have no shortage of suitors if he opts to leave Fulham. The Wales winger is having the season of his life in London, registering 11 goals and six assists in all competitions.

Leon Goretzka will leave Bayern Munich in the summer after nine years. The midfielder has been linked with Fenerbahce and AC Milan as potential destinations for next season.

Julian Brandt has been with Borussia Dortmund since 2019 but will depart this summer. The German club have confirmed the midfielder’s deal will not be renewed, and he is already on the hunt for a new club.

Davidoff highlights the heightened difficulty of this year’s filing process and suggests that it might be wise for those struggling to seek professional assistance.

“With the numerous changes and complexities this year, we’re strongly recommending people consider hiring a professional preparer, whether it’s a CPA, tax attorney, or someone experienced in tax preparation,” Davidoff advises.

Additionally, to safeguard against identity theft, Davidoff recommends that taxpayers create an account on the IRS website and obtain an Identity Protection Pin. This unique pin can serve as a critical defense, ensuring that criminals cannot file fraudulent tax returns using someone else’s identity.

He also warns against delaying filing due to fear of owing money. Taxpayers who file their taxes late may face penalties of 5 percent per month, up to a maximum of 25 percent of the unpaid taxes.
