Dayton James Webber, a professional cornhole player known for his inspiring journey as a quadruple amputee, is scheduled to be transferred from a Virginia jail to Maryland. He faces charges related to the fatal shooting of a passenger in the car he was driving, reportedly following an argument.

During a court session held via video call in Charlottesville, Virginia, Webber opted to waive his right to an extradition hearing on Thursday. Calm and composed in his bright green jumpsuit, the 27-year-old expressed his intention, stating, “I am trying to go back to Maryland.”

Webber’s attorney, Alexander Goodman, has chosen not to comment on the situation at this time.

As of now, the timeline for Webber’s return to Maryland remains uncertain.

It is unclear when Webber will return to Maryland.

Webber was arrested and charged as a fugitive from justice by police in Virginia’s Albemarle County after the shooting in Charles County, Maryland, on Sunday night.

Webber allegedly shot 27-year-old Bradrick Michael Wells, of Waldorf, twice in the head after a heated argument, according to police charging documents.

Authorities haven’t publicly disclosed what the argument was about.

The charging documents say Webber pulled over after the shooting in La Plata, Maryland, and asked two passengers in the back of the car to help pull the victim out, but they refused, got out of the car and flagged down police officers.

Webber fled with the victim still in the car, the Charles County Sheriff’s Office in Maryland said.

Two hours later, a resident in Charlotte Hall, about a 10-mile drive away, found Wells’ body in a yard along a road and notified officers.

Detectives tracked down Webber’s car in Charlottesville, Virginia, and found Webber at a hospital where he was “seeking treatment for a medical issue,” the sheriff’s office said.

Charles County authorities have said he will face charges including first-degree murder.

Webber was featured by ESPN in 2023 in a story of inspiration, noting he rode dirt bikes, wrestled and played football before becoming a professional cornhole player.

The same year, he wrote an essay for the Today show about how he became a professional competitor.

He said he learned to grab the bean bag by the corners and throw it using his amputated arms.

In the early hours of Friday, the Senate passed a bill to allocate funds for the Department of Homeland Security, ensuring that Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents and most other agencies receive pay. However, the funding package notably excludes the immigration enforcement activities at the center of the budget deadlock, which has caused significant disruption at airports, travel delays, and financial strain on federal workers.

The Senate approved the measure unanimously, bypassing a roll call vote, and it will now proceed to the House of Representatives, which is anticipated to review it later on Friday.

“We can reopen a significant portion of the government and then address the remaining issues,” stated Senate Majority Leader John Thune, a Republican from South Dakota. “There’s still more work to be done,” he acknowledged.

With tensions escalating over the 42-day impasse related to Homeland Security funding, a resolution began to take shape just as TSA employees faced the possibility of missing yet another paycheck. President Donald Trump announced his intention to sign an order to immediately compensate the TSA workers, aiming to end what he described as “Chaos at the Airports.” The agreement did not incorporate any limitations that Democrats have pushed for in their efforts to curtail Trump’s extensive deportation policies.

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer pointed out that this resolution could have been achieved weeks ago and pledged that his party would persist in efforts to prevent additional funding for Trump’s “rogue” immigration operations without meaningful reforms.

What’s in and out of the funding package
Senators worked through the night on the deal that would fund much of the rest of the department, including the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Coast Guard and TSA, but without funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Customs was funded, but Border Protection was not.

The package puts no new limits on immigration enforcement, which has remained largely uninterrupted by the shutdown. The GOP’s big tax cuts bill that Trump signed into law last year funneled billions in extra funds to DHS, including $75 billion for ICE operations, ensuring the immigration officers are still being paid despite the lapse.

Next steps in the House, where Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., holds a slim majority, are uncertain. Passage will almost certainly require bipartisan support, as lawmakers on the left and right flanks revolt.

Conservative Republicans have panned their own party’s proposals, demanding full funding for immigration operations. Many have vowed to ensure ICE has the resources it needs in the next budget package to carry out Trump’s agenda.

“We will fully fund ICE. That is what this fight is about,” Sen. Eric Schmitt, R-Mo., said as he tried to offer legislation to fund the agency. “The border is closing. The next task is deportation.”

On-again, off-again talks collapsed
Earlier Thursday, Thune announced he had given a “last and final” offer to the Democrats. But as the day dragged on, action stalled out.

Democrats argued the GOP proposals have not gone far enough at putting guardrails on officers from ICE, Customs and Border Protection, and other federal agencies who are engaged in the immigration sweeps, particularly after the deaths of two Americans protesting the actions in Minneapolis.

They want federal agents to wear identification, remove their face masks and refrain from conducting raids around schools, churches or other sensitive places. Democrats have also pushed for an end of administrative warrants, insisting that judges sign off before agents search people’s homes or private spaces – something new Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin has said he is open to considering.

Trump had largely left the issue to Congress, but warned he was ready to take action, threatening to send the National Guard to airports in addition to his deployment of ICE agents who are now checking travelers’ IDs.

The White House had floated the extraordinary move of invoking a national emergency to pay the TSA agents, a politically and legally fraught approach. Instead, Trump’s order would pay TSA agents using money from his 2025 tax bill, according to a senior administration official who spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to discuss it publicly.

If the Senate package is approved by the House and signed into law, the action Trump announced to pay TSA agents would not be needed.

Airport lines grow as TSA workers endure hardships
The funding shutdown has resulted in travel delays and even warnings of airport closures as TSA workers missing paychecks stop coming to work.

Multiple airports are experiencing greater than 40% callout rates of TSA workers and nearly 500 of the agency’s nearly 50,000 transportation security officers have quit during the shutdown. Nationwide on Wednesday, more than 11% of the TSA employees on the schedule missed work, according to DHS. That is more than 3,120 callouts.

Everett Kelley, the president of the American Federation of Government Employees, said the union is grateful the TSA workers will be paid, but said Congress must stay in session to pass a deal “that funds DHS, pays all DHS workers, and keeps these vital agencies running.”

Speaking after the hearing, Mr Sandy claims his injuries could force him to give up grooming.

He added that a snapped joint and chipped bone in his thumb left him unable to do his job for 12 weeks, sending clients to rival groomers instead and leaving him £18,000 out of pocket. 

Mr Bolton admitted to assault causing actual bodily harm and was ordered to do unpaid work at Mold Magistrates Court on February 27. 

A victim impact statement from Mr Sandy reads: ‘To date, I am still suffering daily from severe pain in the thumb that was injured in the attack and I have to take pain relief on a constant basis.

‘I have also been prescribed antidepressants by my doctor.

‘[…] I understand the legal process should be over soon but I will still be suffering and will have to live everyday with the effects of physical pain and mental trauma for an unforeseeable amount of time.’

Mr Sandy said he escaped to the safety of his hotel room after security intervened.

However, he said being unable to work meant he ended up having to spend £6,000 earmarked for improvements to his salon on simply surviving and paying bills while he lost a further £12,000 in earnings.  

‘Customers would call me for an appointment and since I only had one good hand, I would have to explain I would not be able to do it for a couple of months, due to my injury’, he added.

‘With the court case pending I couldn’t tell them what happened to my hand and would have to listen to the odd one or two, say they would have to try Pawz n Relax instead, as it is probably the closest alternative salon to ours.’

Mr Sandy said: ‘At the last appointment, the orthopaedic consultant told me I could carry on working for now but at some point, I may need surgery and to rest it and it could be that with long term prognosis it that the pain will never really go away and I will have to give up Woofterz and dog grooming, something I really love.

‘I have had months of pain and loss and financial worry whilst his wife’s salon has been posting on social media about their wonderful holiday in Dubai. It just feels so unfair.’

At Mold Magistrates Court, Bolton was ordered to do 160 hours of unpaid work and pay Julian £2,000.

In a recent court case, a former police officer from Massachusetts was acquitted of charges related to attempting to shoot a fellow officer. She testified that her intention was to commit suicide as officers arrived at her residence with a restraining order initiated by her former fiancé.

Kelsey Fitzsimmons, 29, who previously served as an officer in North Andover, faced trial for allegedly pointing a firearm at Officer Patrick Noonan and trying to fire it on June 25, 2025. Prosecutors had charged her with assault with a dangerous weapon.

Fitzsimmons strongly refuted these accusations, maintaining that her true intention was self-harm when the police arrived to enforce the restraining order filed by her fiancé, Justin Aylaian, and to take her child into custody.

“I didn’t want to involve anybody. I wanted to take my own life,” she said earlier this week. “I never pointed the gun at a fellow police officer. It never happened.”

The verdict was handed down by Judge Jeffrey Karp after nearly four hours of deliberations on Thursday, according to WCVB.

Karp decided the case because Fitzsimmons reportedly waived her right to a trial by jury. 

“I think that Ms. Fitzsimmons, Officer Noonan and all the people involved in the tragic events of June 30, 2025, deserve an explanation,” Karp said before delivering his decision, according to WCVB.

“I am left with a reasonable doubt, and I am duty-bound to find that the Commonwealth has not met its burden to prove that Ms. Fitzsimmons committed an assault by means of a dangerous weapon,” he said. “My verdict is, and must be, not guilty.”

Karp added he found no evidence Fitzsimmons had been the victim of a conspiracy.

“I saw no evidence of a conspiracy in this case. What I saw was dedicated public servants, like Officer Noonan and his fellow officers, doing the best they could under rapidly evolving, emotional circumstances,” Karp said.

Fitzsimmons was shot by Noonan after allegedly pointing a gun at him and was later arrested and arraigned on one count of armed assault with intent to murder and two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon.

She was indicted in Essex Superior Court, but a grand jury ultimately chose to maintain just one count of assault with a dangerous weapon. 

Upon taking the stand Wednesday, Fitzsimmons recalled the moment she was shot by Noonan.

“I went into like a huge adrenaline shock. It didn’t feel like normal pain. It almost felt like absent pain, but it felt like my entire body was burning, and I was completely alert, completely awake the whole time,” Fitzsimmons said.

“I was speaking as much as I could. My lung was punctured, so that’s why I was having trouble breathing, but other than that, I was very alert and aware of my surroundings.”

Immediately after the shooting, Fitzsimmons reportedly said the fire department and additional resources transported her from her home to a hospital, where she repeatedly told them she “wanted to die” after authorities arrived to serve the restraining order and take custody of her 4-month-old child. 

“They brought me outside, and I think when I was still in my house, one of the firefighters was trying to put oxygen on my face, and I was taking it off and just saying, ‘I want to die, I want to die, I want to die.’”

In closing statements, defense attorney Tim Bradl pointed to the possibility that Noonan made the decision to shoot Fitzsimmons too quickly, according to the outlet. 

“He’s the only one with the Rambo story,” Bradl said. “Everyone else has what Kelsey says. He walks into a suicide in progress. He sees it. He reacts. ‘Kelsey no, Kelsey no.’ Bam. Bam. Brain freeze. Mistake. He has to cover it up.”

However, prosecuting attorney James Gubitose reportedly held up Fitzsimmons’ empty gun during his closing, insisting that evidence contradicted Fitzsimmons’ testimony while praising Noonan’s police training. 

“It’s impossible to have happened the way she said it,” Gubitose said. “It is scientifically, mechanically impossible for it to happen the way she said.”

In a statement to Fox News Digital, the Essex County District Attorney’s Office added that the indictment “was brought in good faith, supported by credible police testimony and corroborated by the physical evidence,” and “while respecting the judge’s verdict, we disagree.” 

“We also commend the professionalism and civility of prosecutors involved in this highly public and emotionally charged case as well as this being an instance of police officers acting to the best of their ability during a tragic and rapidly evolving incident. The work of police officers, particularly in cases involving restraining orders, is extremely dangerous, and I recognize their dedication, courage and willingness to serve.”

Fitzsimmons’ attorney did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
