The family of Sheridan Gorman is challenging statements made by Chicago and Illinois officials, asserting that her death is not merely a “senseless tragedy” and calling for accountability due to what they perceive as systemic shortcomings.

Sheridan Gorman, an 18-year-old student, was tragically killed on March 19 at approximately 1:06 a.m. She was spending time with friends at a pier in the Rogers Park area of Chicago when the incident occurred. Authorities allege that Jose Medina-Medina, a 25-year-old undocumented immigrant from Venezuela, fired a fatal shot at the Loyola University Chicago student. Medina-Medina had been detained by the U.S. Border Patrol on May 9, 2023, and was subsequently released into the United States under the policies of the Biden administration, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Gorman family expressed their discontent with Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, emphasizing that her death “demands accountability.”

“Sheridan’s death cannot be simplified to a ‘senseless tragedy’ or dismissed with broad statements about public safety. She was our daughter, just 18 years old, engaging in a typical activity—walking near her campus with friends. She should be here with us,” the family stated, responding to recent remarks by Mayor Johnson.

“Calling this ‘senseless’ is not enough. There must be a clear and honest accounting of what went wrong,” the family added. “We will not allow Sheridan’s life to be reduced to a talking point or a generalization. We expect leadership that is willing to confront hard truths and ensure that what happened to her does not happen again.”

Gorman’s family also responded to Gov. Pritzker’s recent comments on the freshman college student’s death, writing that “calling this a tragedy is not enough.”

“Sheridan’s death cannot be reduced to a general “tragedy,” nor can it be explained away by broad references to failures somewhere else. Sheridan was a daughter, a sister, and a young woman whose life was taken in a way that should never have been possible,” the family said. “We are not interested in political arguments or in watching responsibility shift from one place to another. If there were failures—as the Governor himself has acknowledged—then every one of them must be identified, examined, and addressed directly. The location of those failures matters less than the willingness to confront them honestly.”

“Our daughter is not a policy debate. She is a life that was taken, and that demands accountability,” they added.

Pritzker on Tuesday shifted blame to the Trump administration during an event, according to the Chicago Tribune.

“This has been a terrible tragedy, and I know that the Gorman family has suffered mightily… There have been real failures. Those failures, of course, extend beyond the borders of Illinois. That’s their national failures, a failure to have comprehensive immigration reform, a failure of the president to follow his own edict to go after the worst of the worst,” Pritzker said. 

Johnson on Tuesday also addressed Gorman’s death, saying that her life was taken due to “senseless violence,” but called out President Trump as well.

“There’s no words that one could express that could properly console a family that lost their baby. And my condolences to the Gorman family,” Johnson said. “You know what the bigger threat to our public safety, it’s illegal weapons that are being trafficked from bordering states that voted for Donald Trump. This president refuses to be held accountable. And he points the finger at everything and everyone else versus doing some real self-reflection on what his responsibility is.”

“We know that this president has not taken this situation in this challenge in our country seriously, because my question would be, isn’t it time for the president of the United States of America in Congress to actually act and pass comprehensive immigration reform?” Johnson continued.

“There’s no words that one could express that could properly console a family that lost their baby. And my condolences to the Gorman family,” Johnson said. 

In a statement to Fox News Digital, White House Spokeswoman Abigail Jackson said President Donald Trump’s immigration policies have kept Americans safe.

“In record time, President Trump has totally secured the border, ended Biden’s border crisis, and deported countless dangerous criminal illegal aliens. Those are real solutions that keep the American people safe. Meanwhile, slobs like Pritzker have constantly defended dangerous criminal illegal aliens and attempted to obstruct the important work of the Trump Administration. Pritzker’s policies make the American people less safe,” Jackson said.

Homes in Yorktown Heights, New York, Gorman’s hometown, were lit up in green on Tuesday night to honor the slain Chicago college student. according to CBS News.

An arrest report obtained by obtained by Fox News Digital shows that Medina-Medina was seen on security video in his apartment building’s lobby waiting for an elevator while unmasked after the alleged shooting. A building engineer told police that he knew the suspect, who had a “very distinct limp and gait.” 

Police said Medina-Medina was wearing a black mask and black clothing as he walked away from the shooting, noting that he had a “distinct limp and slow gait.” He was seen walking from the location of the shooting to Pratt Boulevard at 1:12 a.m. Just a few minutes later, the individual was seen walking northbound through the east alley of Sheridan Road before he entered the back of his apartment complex.

Images of the suspect were sent to a police database, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection identified the suspect as Medina-Medina. He was arrested at his apartment in Rogers Park, according to the arrest report.

Medina-Medina told officials in 2023 that he was living at Leone Beach Park fieldhouse in Rogers Park in 2023, which was being used as a city-sponsored shelter for migrants. The shelter closed in 2024, according to South Side Weekly.

Recently, McDonald’s has faced criticism over its rising prices, with some customers feeling the pinch more than others, particularly when it comes to their iconic burgers and fries.

The global fast-food chain offers a convenient ‘McDelivery’ service that accommodates orders of any size. However, the service has sparked controversy over unexpected costs.

A recent incident involving a small order and an additional delivery surcharge has stirred frustration among Reddit users.

On Reddit, a customer shared their surprise at discovering an unusual fee in their delivery bill. Alongside the typical delivery and service charges, they encountered a $3.50 ‘small order fee.’

The customer expressed their frustration, stating, “Even with my employee discount, it’s still cheaper to use DoorDash because of this ridiculous fee. I’ve never come across anything like this before.”

Some customers noted that at $3.50, the Reddit user could’ve added another menu item to essentially ‘save’ money on the fast food.

‘Probably because the subtotal was less than $15,’ one Reddit user said. ‘A lot of places, if not most, do this sort of fee for delivery. I usually just find something small that’ll cover it, so I at least won’t be paying for NOTHING.’

‘I always get BOGO double cheeseburgers and I found out yesterday they are charging 50 cents to add mayonnaise to a burger now,’ another noted. ‘Needless to say, that turned me away and I ate at home. So much for trying to expand value. Seems to just be at my closest location though, other ones it doesn’t charge.’

McDonald’s offers delivery through DoorDash, as well as directly through the company’s mobile app

In New York, most small orders, including one for a medium chocolate shake, are subject to a $3.50 ‘Small Order Fee’

Customers who purchase food on the McDonald’s app have access to deals and discounts, even for delivery orders.

These ‘small order’ charges are nothing new for the McDonald’s app. The company first introduced this fee in November 2022, with customers needing to reach a $12 threshold to ditch it. 

While DoorDash does not have a dedicated ‘small order fee,’ it does charge customers fees for their McDonald’s delivery service. 

In New York, there’s an additional $1.99 delivery fee, a $3 service fee and a $1.99 ‘NYC Regulatory Response Fee’ on a $5.29 McChicken order on DoorDash. With taxes, as well as fees, that $5.29 McDonald’s sandwich becomes $12.74.

‘At DoorDash, our approach to fees is guided by foundational principles including fairness and transparency,’ a spokesperson said. ‘There are no hidden fees, junk fees or surprises at checkout. We’re upfront on pricing. You will always see what you will pay, including fees, before you ever checkout.’ 

Other food delivery services, like Postmates and Uber Eats boast a similar delivery fee policy.

The Daily Mail previously reported on an investigation found that UK customers buying everyday items on Uber Eats were typically paying at least 20 percent more.

Small delivery fee aside, McDonald’s is trying to win back customers with new additions to their menu.

In 2026, McDonald’s debuted its ‘biggest ever burger’ in the US, the Big Arch, complete with three slices of white processed cheese, crispy and fresh onions, pickles, lettuce and a brand-new tangy ‘Big Arch’ sauce in a sesame and poppy-seed bun.

The small delivery order fee wouldn’t be the first time McDonald’s was accused of sneakily raising prices. 

McDonald’s came under fire in 2024 when a now-viral social media post showing Big Mac combos costing $18 or more became the poster child for post-pandemic price hikes for fast food.

The chain introduced a $5 meal deal that summer and worked with US franchisees to lower combo-meal prices. The ‘value menu’ remains a welcome addition to McDonald’s menus nationwide. 

‘McDonald’s is not going to get beat on value and affordability,’ Kempczinski said during an investor call at the time. 

McDonald’s remains one of the world’s largest franchises, but it is now longer the biggest after being dethroned by Chinese cafe chain Mixue Ice Cream & Tea.

Bruce Springsteen has firmly stood by his outspoken political views, particularly those criticizing ICE and former President Donald Trump, as he gears up for a “No Kings” rally in St. Paul this weekend.

In a conversation with The Minnesota Star Tribune on Wednesday, Springsteen explained, “Meeting the moment is crucial. The No Kings movement carries significant weight right now. Having the chance to perform something that speaks to the current climate, especially if it has a strong message, can transform both the moment and my role as an artist. I am always on the lookout for opportunities like that.”

This rally will also mark the start of Springsteen’s “Land of Hope and Dreams American Tour,” set to commence on March 31 in Minneapolis. The tour coincides with the release of his latest song, “Streets of Minneapolis,” which serves as a protest anthem against Trump’s administration and its aggressive stance on immigration enforcement in the state.

Despite receiving backlash for his political expression through music, Springsteen remains unapologetic. Drawing inspiration from fellow musician Tom Morello, he remarked, “Nuance is wonderful, but sometimes you have to be more direct.”

Springsteen emphasized his commitment to authenticity, stating, “I’m not concerned about the criticism. My role is straightforward: I express myself freely, and others are equally free to express their opinions in response.”

“Those are the rules of my game. That’s fine with me. I don’t worry about if you’re going to lose this part of your audience. I’ve always had a feeling about the position we play culturally, and I’m still deeply committed to that idea of the band. The blowback is just part of it. I’m ready for all that.”

He emphasized the “critical moment” America is facing when asked whether his demonstrations are now “more important than ever.”

“I don’t know of another time when the country has been as critically challenged and our basic ideas and values as critically challenged as they are right now,” Springsteen said. “I’d have to go back to 1968 when I was 18 years old to another moment when it felt like the country was so on edge and like it felt there was simply so much at stake as far as who we are and the country we want to be and the people we want to be. It’s a critical, critical moment.”

Fox News Digital reached out to Springsteen’s publicist for comment.

Springsteen has been openly disparaging U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents after the death of Renee Good in January. He even insisted they “get the f— out of Minneapolis” during a concert in the city earlier this year.

“If you believe in democracy, in liberty, if you believe that truth still matters, that it’s worth speaking out, that it is worth fighting for, if you believe in the power of the law and no one stands above it, if you stand against heavily armed masked federal troops invading American cities and using Gestapo tactics against our fellow citizens, if you believe you don’t deserve to be murdered for exercising your American right to protest, then send a message to this president,” Springsteen told a crowd.

“And as the mayor of that city has said, ‘ICE should get the f— out of Minneapolis.’”

In Chicago, a pair of delivery robots have recently stirred up trouble, being held responsible for causing damage around the city.

Mayor Brandon Johnson has addressed the growing concerns about the robots’ operations and the recent mishaps.

Video footage captured two separate incidents where these autonomous food delivery machines collided with bus shelters, sparking a heated debate among locals over whether they serve as a public convenience or a potential hazard.

In Lincoln Park, these delivery robots have become a regular fixture, often seen gliding along sidewalks to deliver meals to eagerly waiting customers.

However, this past Sunday, a malfunction turned heads when a robot from Serve Robotics crashed into a CTA bus shelter at the intersection of Grand and Racine in West Town.

Then on Monday, a robot operated by Coco Robotics hit a bus shelter at North and Larrabee in Old Town.

Both Serve and Coco said they will pay for repairs and are looking into what the robots to get off track.

The back-to-back incidents are unsettling to Lincoln Park resident Melissa Bers, who says she was not a fan of the robots to begin with.

“I think that it takes away jobs from people,” Bers said. “Second of all, i think they’re dangerous to cars, to people, animals get scared of them.”
