Effective 7-Minute Standing Workout to Reduce Belly Overhang After 60, Expert Trainer Insights

0

For those over 60 struggling with the persistent issue of belly overhang, a solution may lie not in extended gym sessions but in a brief yet effective standing routine. A seven-minute workout can engage legs, arms, and core in unison, offering significant benefits without the need for endless ab exercises.

>

As a trainer working with senior clients, I’ve found that the biggest obstacle is often sticking with the routine. That’s why I recommend a concise, easy-to-remember workout. A seven-minute session feels achievable and can be slotted into any time of day, whether it’s the morning, a lunch break, or a moment of spare time in the afternoon.

The strategy involves combining one full-body strength exercise with a standing core move, and cycling through this pair three times. Maintaining a steady pace is key, allowing for a quick reset each minute, leading to a final round that truly feels like the icing on the cake in terms of strength and form.

The 7-Minute Standing Belly Overhang Routine

What you need: A pair of light dumbbells and enough space to move safely. If you’re new to the squat-to-press, start with bodyweight or one dumbbell held at your chest. This routine takes seven minutes, including transitions and quick rest breaks.

The Routine:

  1. Dumbbell Squat to Press: 3 rounds of 45 seconds
  2. Standing Cross-Body Knee Drive: 3 rounds of 45 seconds

Directions

Set a timer for seven minutes. Perform the dumbbell squat-to-press for 45 seconds, then take 15 seconds to switch. Perform the standing cross-body knee drive for 45 seconds, then take 15 seconds to reset.

4 Standing Exercises That Firm Arm Jiggle Faster Than Gym Sessions After 50

Dumbbell Squat to Press

The dumbbell squat to press works well in a short belly-overhang routine because it brings more total muscle into the session. Your legs drive the squat, your upper body finishes the press, and your core helps keep the movement organized from top to bottom. That full-body demand helps raise the effort quickly, which matters when you only have seven minutes. It’s also easy to scale with lighter dumbbells, one dumbbell, or bodyweight.

How to do it:

  1. Stand with your feet about shoulder-width apart.
  2. Hold a dumbbell in each hand at shoulder height.
  3. Lower into a controlled squat.
  4. Press through your feet to stand.
  5. Press the dumbbells overhead as you reach the top.
  6. Lower the weights back to your shoulders and repeat.

Best Variations: Bodyweight squat to reach, goblet squat to press, single-dumbbell squat to press.

Form Tip: Let your legs drive the movement before your arms finish the press.

Standing Cross-Body Knee Drive

The standing cross-body knee drive gives your core a clear job while keeping the workout upright and energetic. Each knee drive brings the abs and obliques into the movement, and the standing position adds balance practice without making the exercise high impact. This move helps the routine keep its pace after the squat-to-press, which makes the whole seven minutes feel more productive. It’s a strong choice after 60 because you can make it gentle, moderate, or more athletic with a simple change in speed.

How to do it:

  1. Stand tall with your feet about hip-width apart.
  2. Place your hands behind your head or hold them in front of your chest.
  3. Brace your core.
  4. Drive your right knee up toward your left side.
  5. Lower your foot with control.
  6. Repeat on the other side and continue alternating.

Best Variations: Standing marches, slower cross-body knee drives, supported knee drives with one hand on a chair.

Form Tip: Stay tall as your knee lifts so the movement doesn’t turn into a forward crunch.

The 10-Minute Wall Routine That Rebuilds Knee Strength After 60

Best Lifestyle Tips for Trimming Belly Overhang After 60

A seven-minute routine can help you build momentum, especially when it becomes part of a larger daily rhythm. Belly overhang changes when your workouts, meals, sleep, stress, and daily movement start working in the same direction. You don’t need to overhaul everything at once. Small habits done consistently tend to make the biggest difference because they’re easier to repeat when life gets busy. Use this routine as the spark, then support it with choices that help your body burn more energy, preserve muscle, and recover well.

  • Walk after meals: Even 10 minutes after breakfast or dinner can help increase daily movement and support better blood-sugar control.
  • Build breakfast around protein: Eggs, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, protein smoothies, or lean leftovers can help keep you full and support muscle.
  • Drink water early: Start the day with a glass of water so hydration doesn’t become something you chase later.
  • Keep high-fiber foods in rotation: Fruit, vegetables, beans, oats, and whole grains can help meals feel more satisfying.
  • Protect your sleep: Poor sleep can make cravings, hunger, and low energy harder to manage the next day.
  • Limit mindless evening snacks: A planned snack is fine. Grazing out of habit can quietly push calories higher than expected.
  • Keep strength work in the week: Short routines like this help preserve muscle, which supports body composition as you age.

Trimming belly overhang after 60 takes steady effort, and that’s exactly why short routines can work so well. Seven focused minutes give you a clear starting point, and the lifestyle habits around it help that work show up over time.

Lindsay Clancy Trial: Jury Sent Home Unexpectedly Due to Sudden Development

0

The trial of Lindsay Clancy took an unexpected turn on August 19 when jurors were abruptly sent home earlier than scheduled.

“I appreciate your patience, and once again, I kindly request a bit more of it,” Judge William Sullivan addressed the jury after reconvening post-lunch break, as shown in the court footage streamed by the Associated Press. “An unforeseen issue has come up, requiring us to adjourn until you return tomorrow morning.”

“This was not anticipated, but you must refrain from speculating as to the reason,” Sullivan advised. “Please do not let this affect your views on either party. It’s a matter we need to address accordingly.”

Judge Sullivan expressed his gratitude to the jury for their understanding and reminded them to avoid discussing the case or seeking additional information until they reconvene on August 20.

“We’ll handle this situation promptly and continue our schedule,” he mentioned. “We remain comfortably within the timeline I initially outlined for this trial, but certain situations are out of our control.”

It’s unclear what circumstances led to the early dismissal. has reached out to Plymouth Superior Court for comment but did not receive an immediate reply.

Earlier in the day, psychologist Dr. Paul Zeizel returned to the stand to shed insight into Clancy’s mental state. He shared his opinion that the mother of three “had bipolar disorder with postpartum psychosis” at the time she killed her and then-husband Patrick Clancy’s children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and 8-month-old Callan.

“In addition, she was unable to conform her behaviors to the rule of law,” he testified, “and she had no appreciation for the wrongfulness of her act.”

Afterward, while the jury was on recess, former McLean Hospital employee Emily Thorndike was questioned in a voir dire session—which looks for potential bias, qualifications and admissibility of testimony—as a potential witness. Thorndike worked at the hospital until December 2021, just over a year before Clancy had a five-day inpatient stay.

In a now-viral TikTok video posted on July 29, she spoke about her experience of the staffing levels at the facility and took issue with the prosecution’s depiction of the care they provided. Having seen the video, Clancy’s attorney Kevin Reddington proposed she testify as a witness for the defense.

While the judge noted he found Thorndike credible, he decided against allowing her to serve as a witness, in part due to the “limited materiality” of her testimony, considering the one-year gap between her and Clancy’s time at McLean.

Weeks after she left the facility, Clancy fatally strangled her children at their family’s Duxbury, Mass., home, then attempted to take her own life. She has pleaded not guilty to three counts of first-degree murder, with her defense team arguing she was suffering from postpartum psychosis at the time of the killings and should not be held criminally responsible.

More witness testimony from the defense is expected to continue on Aug. 20 when the trial resumes.

Brooklyn Beckham’s Pizza Skills Dazzle Fans, Igniting a Flurry of Emotional Reactions

0

Drawing culinary inspiration from his family, Brooklyn Beckham whipped up a delightful dinner on Wednesday evening.

The son of David and Victoria Beckham, who maintains an independent lifestyle, shared one of his popular cooking videos with his impressive 19.3 million Instagram followers. In this particular clip, Brooklyn demonstrated his skills by crafting a protein-packed pizza, skillfully incorporating his signature Cloud 23 hot sauce.

Intriguingly, this culinary creation appeared on social media just a few hours after his younger brother, Romeo, had showcased his own pizza-making adventure.

Romeo’s culinary journey came to light through Instagram Stories shared by his girlfriend, Kim Turnbull. Her posts captured the middle Beckham sibling immersing himself in a delightful Italian cooking class.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Beckham family, minus Brooklyn, is savoring a lavish getaway along the breathtaking Amalfi coast, enjoying the luxury of their £16 million yacht.

Brooklyn’s Italian cooking lesson took place in the slightly less authentic setting of the Los Angeles mansion he shares with his wife Nicola Peltz.

‘This is my protein pizza with Cloud 23, try it at home, promise you won’t regret it’ he begins the video, before plugging his own brand sauce, gushing: ‘I really highly recommend, obviously I am bias.’

Whilst some fans gushed over the aspiring chef’s skills and his hot sauce, others used the post to plead with Brooklyn to contact his family.

‘Love the sweet jalapeño working through my second bottle- but call your parents’ commented one.

Others commented on Brooklyn’s resemblance to his dad, pointing out he is ‘David’s young version!’ and is ‘definitely morphing into him as he gets older!’

Some followers poked fun at Brooklyn’s often ridiculed culinary skills, with one joking: ‘Look at the pizza on those basil leaves!’

Brooklyn has long been using his social media platforms to show off his cooking skills – however he faced backlash earlier this month after he horrified fans by cooking a pasta dish using seawater during his stay on a luxury yacht.

The clip, which was originally shared last year, was reposted to TikTok but the eldest Beckham son immediately caused controversy as he dipped his saucepan in the sea to collect salty water to boil the pasta.

It seems Brooklyn was trying to trump his estranged dad David who also has a passion for cooking and even completed a culinary course during his spell at AC Milan.

He told The Times back in 2013: ‘Funnily enough, when I lived in Italy, I took a six-month culinary course at a professional chef’s school and learnt to make real ragu and fresh pasta.

‘I used to go there three times a week… I was obsessed with perfecting the risotto because it is difficult.’

And the family are back in Italy as part of their summer holiday after cruising around various countries in Europe on their superyacht.

Brooklyn has skipped the Beckhams’ annual summer getaway aboard the family’s £16million yacht for the second consecutive year after severing ties with his parents and siblings.

Instead earlier this month, he joined godfather Sir Elton, 79, aboard the singer’s yacht off the French coast, where on Saturday he and Nicola were seen chatting on deck with the star and Mr Furnish, 63.

The Beckhams and Sir Elton have been friends for more than 30 years, with David affectionately calling the musician ‘Uncle Elton’ after the pair became friends during his football career.

Yet Sir Elton appears to be pledging allegiance with Brooklyn and Nicola as they enjoyed lunch on his yacht.

Naira to Dollar Rate for August 20, 2026: Today’s Rates

On Thursday, the naira displayed further strength, trading at ₦1,344.45 against the US dollar according to the most recent signals from the foreign exchange market.

This upward trend highlights an ongoing improvement in the naira’s performance, driven by an increased supply of dollars and enhanced market liquidity.

Entering the latter part of the week, the naira continued to demonstrate resilience, building on gains notched earlier.

Naira maintains upward momentum

Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) statistics revealed that the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM) rate climbed to ₦1,343.32 on August 18.

This development occurred once the naira was valued at approximately ₦1,350 per dollar at close of business on August 17.

A live currency-rate platform also placed the USD/NGN exchange rate at ₦1,344.45 as of 5:18 a.m. UTC on Thursday.

The development suggests that the naira has continued to benefit from improved conditions in the official foreign exchange market.

Parallel market remains higher

Despite the naira’s gains in the official market, the parallel market continued to quote the dollar at a significantly higher level.

Aboki Forex reported that the dollar was selling for around ₦1,404 on Thursday.

The difference between the ₦1,344.45 NFEM rate and the ₦1,404 parallel-market rate is about ₦60 per dollar.

This shows that a considerable gap still exists between official and street-market exchange rates.

Dollar liquidity supports currency

Market reports have linked the naira’s recent recovery to increased dollar supply and stronger liquidity.

AbokiFX reported on August 19 that the currency had reached a five-month high of ₦1,343.32 against the dollar.

The CBN states that the NFEM rate is determined using a volume-weighted average and represents the official exchange rate for the day.

However, individuals and businesses buying dollars may receive different rates depending on their bank, Bureau de Change operator, location and transaction size.

The naira-dollar rate could also change during the day as foreign exchange demand and supply continue to fluctuate.

Breakthrough in Justice: Karmelo Anthony Awaits Judge’s Decision for New Trial Following Teen’s Legal Win

0

A legal turn of events unfolds today as a Texas judge weighs the decision to potentially award a new trial to Karmelo Anthony, a teen convicted of murder earlier this year. The conviction revolves around the tragic stabbing of a 17-year-old athlete during a high school track event.

In a significant development for Anthony, the judge originally overseeing his trial was removed just the day before this hearing. Judge Michael Chitty has now taken over to review requests from Anthony’s legal team, who are pushing for a retrial regarding Austin Metcalf’s death.

Currently 19, Anthony faces a daunting 35-year prison sentence. He appeared at Wednesday’s court session clad in a green prison uniform. Both Anthony’s and Metcalf’s families were present to witness the proceedings.

The defense team had requested the dismissal of state District Judge John Roach, partly due to a controversial television interview where Roach affirmed the jury’s decision, stating their guilty verdict was justified.

Anthony’s lawyers contend that oppressive courtroom rules and flawed jury instructions tainted the June trial. They also argue Anthony refrained from testifying due to a conflict with prosecutors concerning a pretrial deal intended to concentrate on events leading up to the fatal incident.

Jurors in the trial had rejected Anthony’s claims he acted in self-defense during a confrontation with Metcalf in the stadium bleachers last year. Students who took the stand described a heated exchange over Anthony’s refusal on a rainy spring day to leave a tent that belonged to Metcalf’s team.

The case attracted national attention in part because of a flood of social media posts that amplified the killing in racial terms. Anthony is Black; Metcalf was white. Lawyers on both sides, however, told jurors the tragedy had nothing to do with race.

During the recusal hearing Wednesday, Anthony’s legal team focused on comments Roach made to a Dallas TV station after the trial had ended. In the interview, which was played as the hearing began, Roach was asked if the jury got “it right.”

“Yeah, they did,” Roach said, adding: “Whatever they say, they got it right.”

During the interview, Roach also defended his courtroom rules and spoke about the onslaught of online postings about the case.

As national attention on the killing intensified last year, the families of both Metcalf and Anthony said they had been targets of harassment.

Several schools were competing at the track event when Anthony sat under the Memorial High School tent that was perched in the bleachers. Metcalf and others had repeatedly told Anthony to leave, witnesses testified, leading to an escalating confrontation.

Prosecutors said Anthony provoked Metcalf, and witnesses testified that Anthony was the aggressor.

Anthony at one point reached inside a bag and replied: “Touch me and see what happens,” according to a police report.

Metcalf pushed Anthony, according to witnesses, who said Anthony then pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the chest.

Former Downing Street Aide Sue Gray Reveals Tensions and Surveillance Concerns While Working for Keir Starmer

0

Sue Gray has described her experience working at No. 10 Downing Street under Keir Starmer as “unbearable,” breaking her silence on the intense internal conflicts she faced in the prime minister’s office.

Initially serving as Sir Keir’s chief of staff at the onset of his term as Prime Minister, Baroness Gray of Tottenham remained in the position for only three months.

Her departure resulted from a significant power struggle, as her tenure was marked by frequent reports of friction with other members of the No. 10 team.

During her first interview since exiting Downing Street, Baroness Gray recounted the “very, very, very difficult period” she endured while in office.

She expressed concern about the possibility of being recorded without consent and criticized Sir Keir for not taking sufficient action to prevent negative briefings against her.

Baroness Gray said the negative briefings started while Labour was in opposition, where she would ‘read about things that I would have said or not said’, and continued on into government.

‘I had always taken a view as a civil servant and actually as a special adviser that you know you should be able to speak freely in rooms,’ she told the Political Currency podcast.

‘And I couldn’t recall those sort of discussions being briefed out.’

Baroness Gray’s relationship with Morgan McSweeney, who went on to replace her as Sir Keir’s top aide, was the subject of a number of reports of tensions within No10.

She was also damaged when it was leaked that she was earning more than the PM’s salary of £166,786.

Baroness Gray added: ‘Here I found myself, you know, stories about supposedly trying to move Morgan McSweeney to the back of the building.

‘Actually, that was a genuine, ‘I can’t believe so many of you are going to sit in this small room, let’s find a better room for you’.’

She continued: ‘It just got to the point where you know everything you say, you feel is somebody is recording it.’

Asked whether Sir Keir was willing to act on her concerns, she said: ‘I talked to him a couple of times about it, and I don’t really want to disclose individual conversations.

‘But I was disappointed that not more was done because I think it could have been done.’

Sir Keir’s government faced criticism from Labour members, including the party’s deputy leader Lucy Powell, who described a ‘boys club’ culture in No10, with a pattern of ‘anonymous nasty briefings’ – particularly against women.

‘It was definitely unbearable, particularly for me,’ Baroness Gray said. ‘And I would say that none of that briefing came from me.

‘I think it was very difficult, and it was just affecting me and my life.

‘I was getting into the office very early in the morning. I was leaving late to avoid…. It was very, very, very difficult period.’

Asked about the lack of positive vision in the early days of Sir Keir’s government and how much was her responsibility, she said: ‘I think ultimately, you have a leader of the party, you have a prime minister, leader of the opposition.

‘You have to set your vision, your agenda, and that is definitely what everybody is looking for.’

Prior to joining Sir Keir’s Labour team, Baroness Gray had been a long-serving civil servant and led the ‘Partygate’ investigation into Covid rule-breaking in Whitehall.

She went from an influential but little-known arbiter of conduct in government to a household name when she took on the ‘Partygate’ probe in 2021.

Baroness Gray stepped in to lead the investigation after then-cabinet secretary Simon Case, her boss, recused himself following claims his own office held a lockdown-busting event.

Civil service impartiality was later thrown into question following her shock move to quit the Cabinet Office to join Labour as Sir Keir’s chief of staff.

After weeks of negative briefings against her following Labour’s general election victory in July 2024, Baroness Gray announced her resignation in October that year.

She cited concerns that she was ‘becoming a distraction’ to the work of government.

Baroness Gray had initially been due to take up a newly-created role as ‘envoy to the nations and regions’ following a short break from government.

But Downing Street announced a month after her departure as Sir Keir’s chief of staff that she had decided not to take up the envoy job.

Just four months after her exit from No10, Baroness Gray formally entered the House of Lords after being among a slew of new Labour peers named by Sir Keir.

This was despite the then-PM having previously promised to abolish the unelected chamber.

Meghan and Harry Secure New Home: Exciting Next Chapter

0

The Sussexes have already found a new place to call home in Britain, following their unexpected announcement of a return to the UK this month.

Prince Harry, 41, and Meghan Markle, 45, are reportedly planning a longer stay in the UK, with their children, Archie and Lilibet, expected to enroll in a local school.

However, the family is not anticipated to occupy a royal residence and will not resume roles as working members of the Royal Family.

For security purposes, the location of their new property is being kept confidential.

While they embark on this journey, Harry and Meghan plan to maintain their £11 million home in Montecito and their residence in Portugal. It’s still unclear whether their return to the UK signifies a permanent relocation.

Before departing for the US following ‘Megxit’, the couple lived in Frogmore Cottage until 2020.

They splashed £2.4million on renovations and redecoration at the Grade II-listed building, but only lived there for a year.

It comes as:

Frogmore Cottage was said to be filled with furniture from the luxury store Soho Home.

Ceiling beams and floor joists were replaced, the property’s electrical system rewired, new gas and water mains installed and £50,000 spent on soundproofing.

Soho House designer Vicky Charles – a close friend of the Beckhams and the Clooneys – was also enlisted to help decorate the property with vegan paint.

As part of the renovation, the Sussexes joined Frogmore’s two pre-existing semi-detached houses into one big family home.

In January 2020, the couple stepped down as working royals and moved to Montecito, California, where they lived until now with their children.

Six months later, Harry paid back the £2.4million and was officially evicted by King Charles in 2023, weeks after publishing his controversial memoir Spare.

However, the royal residence is not the only UK home the couple shared before departing across the pond.

Following their 2018 wedding, the couple signed a two-year lease on a £4.12million Cotswolds property nestled near Chipping Norton.

The four-bedroom farmhouse, situated on the Great Tew Estate, boasted a converted barn as well as another two-bedroom cottage.

The four-bedroom farmhouse called Westfield Large came with four acres of land as well as a heated patio, House and Garden reported.

However, it was not always grand million-pound renovations and quaint cottages in the Cotswolds for the Sussexes.

During their engagement in November 2017, the Suits actress moved to be with Harry in Nottingham Cottage after the famed TV series came to an end.

At the time, a source told UsWeekly: ‘With Suits over, so is Meghan’s life in Toronto.

‘It’s the end of a really precious era, so she’s definitely sad to see it come to an end, but she’s also really excited about starting a new chapter with Harry.’

But the 17th-century residence within Kensington Palace was not as glamorous as one may think, Meghan previously shared.

The kitchen in the Duke’s two-bedroom flat had black-and-white tiles, a dining room, and a small living room, which was around 1,300 square feet in size.

In the Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan, the Duchess previously said: ‘Kensington Palace sounds very regal, of course it does.

‘It says “palace” in the name. But it was so small.’

Harry chimed in: ‘The whole thing’s on a slight lean, really low ceilings. I don’t know who was there before; they must have been very short.’

Harvard Settles $53M Over Stolen Donated Body Parts Scandal

0

In a significant legal development, Harvard University has consented to a proposed $53 million settlement. This agreement aims to resolve allegations by families who accused the esteemed institution of mishandling its anatomical gift program. Controversy arose after accusations that a former morgue manager unlawfully trafficked body parts from cadavers donated for critical research and education purposes.

Massachusetts Superior Court Judge Debra A. Squires-Lee gave preliminary approval to the class action settlement on Tuesday. The proposal includes the creation of two distinct funds to collectively disburse $53 million, thereby resolving the claims against Harvard University.

A hearing to potentially give the final stamp of approval to this settlement is slated for December 9, 2026. During this session, the court will thoroughly evaluate whether the proposed agreement meets the necessary legal standards for conclusive approval.

The litigation followed the 2023 arrest of Cedric Lodge, who managed Harvard Medical School’s morgue for nearly three decades and who prosecutors said stole and sold parts of cadavers donated to the school for medical research and education.

Lodge pleaded guilty to interstate transport of stolen human remains and was sentenced to eight years in prison. His wife, Denise Lodge, was sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison.

Lodge admitted that, from 2018 through at least March 2020, he participated in the sale and interstate transport of human remains stolen from the Harvard Medical School morgue, including organs, brains, skin, hands, faces, dissected heads and other parts from donated cadavers after they had been used for research and teaching purposes but before they were disposed of in accordance with anatomical gift donation agreements.

He transported the remains to his home in New Hampshire without the knowledge or permission of Harvard, the donors or their families, officials said.

Harvard condemned Lodge’s conduct in a message to the school’s community Monday.

“His violations … were despicable, abhorrent, and a flagrant betrayal of our values as a medical community,” George Daley, Harvard’s dean of the faculty of medicine, and Bernard Chang, dean for medical education at Harvard Medical School, wrote in the letter.

The university noted that the federal indictment said Lodge acted “without the knowledge or permission of HMS.”

Harvard said the proposed settlement also includes a pledge by HMS to provide a statement to claimant families reaffirming that Lodge’s criminal acts were “morally reprehensible and inconsistent with the standards that Harvard University and HMS expect for the treatment of anatomical donors and their loved ones.”

The university also said it will establish an annual financial aid scholarship for medical students beginning in the 2027-2028 academic year in appreciation and honor of its anatomical donors.

“We hope that this resolution ensures that this never happens to another family ever again,” John Morgan, whose law firm, Morgan & Morgan, represented families in the litigation, said in a statement.
