ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — In a significant development following a tragic incident, the Florida Highway Patrol revealed on Wednesday the arrest of an individual connected to a fatal accident in St. Augustine.
Kevin Hoffman faces serious charges, including leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death, driving under the influence (DUI) causing death, and vehicular homicide.
This story continues below.
The tragic events unfolded on the evening of July 8, when officers from the Florida Highway Patrol, alongside St. Johns County Sheriff’s deputies, responded to a collision at the intersection of SR-16 and US-1. Reports indicated that a Tesla, traveling at an excessively high speed, collided with a woman on a scooter. The victim, identified as Delinda Ronette Heinrich, unfortunately, succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Kevin Hoffman, who was driving the Tesla, attempted to flee the scene before subsequently crashing his vehicle. He was admitted to a local hospital, where investigations revealed his blood alcohol content was .212, markedly above Florida’s legal limit by .132.
Following his release from medical care, Hoffman was apprehended at his residence by law enforcement officials, as confirmed by the Highway Patrol.
Dashcam video shared by the sheriff’s office shows the crash from a law enforcement vehicle in the area.
A Canadian woman was arrested by Florida deputies, as revealed in police body camera footage, after she allegedly provided a false identity during a traffic stop. The arrest took a dramatic turn when investigators found a dozen fraudulent ID cards inside her car.
Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister shared bodycam footage from July 29, which depicts the deputies pulling over a vehicle in Tampa due to malfunctioning taillights and tag lights.
The driver, identified as 28-year-old Bryce Swanson, initially gave deputies the name “Brianna Valenzuela”. She claimed to possess a driver’s license but admitted she didn’t have it on her at the time, according to the authorities.
During the traffic stop captured on body camera footage, deputies unearthed several allegedly fake identification cards within a vehicle in Tampa, Fla.(Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office)
“After initially claiming to have a license, Swanson admitted to deputies that she neither had an ID nor had ever held a valid driver’s license,” Chronister mentioned in a post on X. “Upon searching her car, they discovered 12 driver’s licenses, all featuring her photo but with varied names and birthdates.”
According to authorities, Swanson is a Canadian national who overstayed her visa.
The body camera footage shows a deputy questioning Swanson about her identity after she said she was visiting Florida from New York in a rental vehicle.
“I live in New York,” Swanson said. “I’m here in Florida literally just visiting friends and stuff right now.”

The deputy pointed out she did not have any New York identification.
“Your story’s not making a lot of sense to me, right?” the deputy said. “You say you live in New York, but you don’t have any ID in New York.”
When the deputy again asked how she could live in New York without any identification, Swanson replied, “I’ve never had a driver’s license or anything like that.”
Deputies then searched the vehicle and found what investigators described as numerous fraudulent identification cards.

“All these are fake,” one deputy said in the video before placing Swanson under arrest.
Swanson was booked into the Orient Road Jail and charged with driving without a valid driver’s license and providing a false name to a law enforcement officer.
She is being held without bond because of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainer, according to jail records.
Francesca Hong, a Democrat aligned with socialist principles and currently vying for the position of Wisconsin governor, once stirred controversy by denouncing Thanksgiving as a celebration of colonialism. Now, in a surprising twist, she claims it’s actually her favorite holiday.
In a recent interview on Politico’s Playbook podcast, the candidate sought to retract her November 2021 comments, where she had called for Thanksgiving to be canceled—a post she has since deleted.
“Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday,” Hong declared, light-heartedly adding, “I don’t want to cancel it; I genuinely love it.”
In a conversation with host Irie Senter, she confessed that Thanksgiving holds a special place in her family as a “big event,” although she also described herself as “kind of a curmudgeon when it comes to holidays overall.”
During the height of the Covid pandemic in November 2021, Hong issued a blistering public-service announcement on her X account to “cancel Thanksgiving” — and raged that it “should have been done in 1621.”
“If it takes a worldwide pandemic for us to realize we should stop celebrating colonialism and the original superspreader event that killed indigenous folx [sic] and women, so be it,” she wrote in her since-deleted post, referring to the spread of smallpox that killed many indigenous Americans.
The socialist darling’s Thanksgiving hatred is not an anomaly though, as she has gotten worked up about at least seven US holidays in social media posts — including Valentine’s Day, the Fourth of July, Christmas, Halloween and Mother’s and Father’s days.
Her bizarre backtrack comes after her interview on CNN Monday, where she issued a 46-second word salad response when asked by host Kaitlan Collins if she still believes Thanksgiving should be canceled.
Despite being asked point-blank, Hong wasn’t able to give a “yes” or “no” answer.
“I’m a chef, and one of the first meals that I made that was for the community when I was 16 was a Thanksgiving meal.,” she waffled to Collins.
“I always think my hospitality background and owning a restaurant for 7-8 years, that bringing folks around the table to share conversation and build community is always a good thing. But Thanksgiving is also a time that’s incredibly painful for many people in our communities. So I think there I wanted to make sure people understood there are multiple views, but views can evolve.”
“And the position I’m running for right now — and I think my background as a chef will actually help me become a better governor that’s able to bring more people to the table,” she added before Collins ended the interview.
In a significant show of support, JD Vance has stepped forward to back WNBA star Sophie Cunningham, encouraging her to “keep speaking her mind” amid the ongoing controversy surrounding her remarks about transgender athletes.
Cunningham found herself at the heart of a contentious cultural debate recently after expressing her belief to ESPN that young girls in sports should not have to compete against “biological men.” These comments have stirred considerable discussion and debate.
Facing intense backlash, Cunningham has become a polarizing figure. Criticism has poured in from both fans and sports figures alike, including a notable response from Minnesota Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve. Reeve showed her stance by donning a t-shirt that declared ‘Trans Kids Belong’ during a game against Cunningham’s team, the Indiana Fever.
This heated debate has now reverberated up to the highest echelons of government discourse. Vice President Vance has publicly urged Cunningham to “keep going” and remain steadfast despite the intense opposition she faces.
‘Sometimes when you’re courageous in this country, some of the worst people in the world try to attack you,’ Vance toldFox News.
“What I would tell Sophie and anybody else is: keep speaking your mind,” Vance stated. “You’re actually inspiring a dozen people for every individual who criticizes you.”

Minnesota Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve wore a ‘Trans Kids Belong’ t-shirt on the sidelines of her team’s clash against Cunningham and the Indiana Fever
‘And we cannot take our country back, we cannot save the United States of America, unless you have people of courage who are speaking their mind.
‘The thing about courage is it’s contagious. When you see one person – even if they have the mob come after them – speak their mind in a courageous and honest way, it inspires a lot of people to do the same. So I would tell Sophie to keep going.’
Since Cunningham’s comments went viral, Indiana Fever games have seen both pro- and anti-trans protests.
In Minnesota, protestors on each side of the debate clashed outside Target Center, while Lynx coach Reeve was seen in an animated discussion with Cunningham at the side of the court while she wore her ‘Trans Kids Belong’ shirt.
‘I respect her for coming up in person,’ Cunningham said on Wednesday. ‘I think a lot of people hide behind screens and love that type of thing. She had stories about her point of view and I had stories about my point of view and we left with love and respect and I think that’s what it’s all about.’
Reeve, meanwhile, had previously said: ‘I think it’s great… both of us understand that we have platforms and we both talked about wanting to, more than anything, educate.
‘There are some things that we have in common, and maybe some things you differ on, just like any issues. I think it’s how you handle things. It was nice to be in person, for sure.’
Reeve, who also serves as the Team USA coach, added: ‘I come from a space of inclusion… the narrative that I think is problematic is to suggest that transgender athletes are the biggest problem in women’s sports.
Cunningham and Reeve had an animated pre-game discussion before the game
Since Cunningham’s comments, Fever games have seen both pro and anti-trans protests
‘This is what’s bothersome. There is a faction of people in our country that are making this a massive issue.’
When Caitlin Clark was asked about her teammate’s comments, she said: ‘I think, for us, it’s not really a discussion we really have in our locker room.
‘I think it’s for leagues and the governing bodies to work with their athletes to find solutions, but our focus is on basketball. That’s what we talk about and how we can get wins, and, obviously, we didn’t do that tonight.’
A second reporter then followed up with a question on the same subject, to which he was met by Clark saying: ‘I just answered for you.’

MEMORISE: Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts. – Zechariah 4:6 (KJV)
READ: Ecclesiastes 9:1-12 (KJV)
1 For all this I considered in my heart even to declare all this, that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God: no man knoweth either love or hatred by all that is before them.
2 All things come alike to all: there is one event to the righteous, and to the wicked; to the good and to the clean, and to the unclean; to him that sacrificeth, and to him that sacrificeth not: as is the good, so is the sinner; and he that sweareth, as he that feareth an oath.
3 This is an evil among all things that are done under the sun, that there is one event unto all: yea, also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.
4 For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion.
5 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
6 Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.
7 Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart; for God now accepteth thy works.
8 Let thy garments be always white; and let thy head lack no ointment.
9 Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun.
10 Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.
11 I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.
12 For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Jeremiah 9-11
Open Heaven 6 August 2026 MESSAGE
What a person will become during his or her sojourn on earth will not depend solely on the fellow’s efforts. African elders have an adage that says, ‘Hustling and bustling does not translate to wealth.’ This is true because, for instance, dockworkers who offload cargo from a ship from sunrise to sunset typically would earn only a fraction of what the Chief Executive Officer of a wharf, who sits in an air-conditioned office, sipping tea and merely signing documents, would earn. At the end of a month, the fellow’s salary might even be more than what a hefty, hardworking dockworker will earn in a whole year!
Today’s Bible reading makes it clear that the fact that a fellow can run swiftly does not mean that he or she will win a race, and the fact that a fellow is strong does not mean that he or she will defeat an enemy. The passage goes on to say that bread is not to the wise, neither are riches to men of understanding. This means that a fellow’s advanced level of education alone will not determine how wealthy he or she will become.
I recall that I was in Redemption Camp (now Redemption City) sometime between 1983 and 1984, spending time alone with God, and crying to Him. I said, “God, I’m not asking for clothes, a car, or a house. I was minding my business as a lecturer at the university when You asked me to come and serve You. I agreed, and I really want to serve You; however, I need power to do Your work. I don’t want to be an ordinary pastor; I want to excel.” In desperation, I added, “God, it is either You empower me, or You take me home.” My prayer touched Him, and that night, the entire campground shook due to an earthquake that sent tremors as far as ljebu Ode, a town several kilometres away. The Lord visited me and empowered me with His anointing to excel.
Beloved, you need God’s anointing to excel. It is God who gives power to get wealth (Deuteronomy 8:18), it is only His anointing that can teach you everything you need to know (1 John 2:27), and it is only through Him that you can do all things (Philippians 4:13). This is why you must cry out to God to anoint you just as I did several years ago. I pray that my Daddy will empower you to excel, in Jesus’ name.

The renowned video game company, Electronic Arts, has officially welcomed new ownership.
Renowned for blockbuster hits like “Battlefield” and “The Sims,” the California-based gaming titan announced on Tuesday the completion of its monumental $55 billion sale. The new controlling entities include Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund, the Public Investment Fund (PIF), alongside Silver Lake Partners and Affinity Partners, with the latter being managed by Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of former U.S. President Donald Trump.
This acquisition has set a historic precedent as the largest private equity buyout ever recorded in the sector. With the deal now finalized, industry observers are speculating about the potential transformative shifts awaiting the gaming landscape.
In an enthused statement, Andrew Wilson, CEO of Electronic Arts, expressed a commitment to “invest boldly and accelerate innovation,” aiming to craft the next wave of games and experiences that captivate countless gamers globally. Meanwhile, Turqi Alnowaiser, deputy governor and head of international investments at PIF—who has overseen PIF’s minority stake in EA for five years—vowed substantial investment towards EA’s expansion, particularly leveraging artificial intelligence in game creation.
While some analysts view EA’s transition to a private entity as a move that could liberate the company from the relentless pressures of public market demands, other experts caution about the $20 billion in debt burdened onto the deal. Such financial strain raises the specter of potential layoffs and significant cost-reduction strategies looming on the horizon.
And many eyes are on Saudi Arabia’s PIF and Kushner’s Affinity Partners. Critics are wary about what this new ownership could mean for EA games down the road.
“With this deal, Saudi Arabia and Jared Kushner just bought access to 700 million players worldwide,” U.K.-based campaign #BlockTheEADeal wrote in an online petition that previously called on regulators to challenge the buyout. “With the increased use of AI in the creative sector and video games, the potential for data misuse by a Foreign Sovereignty is high and poses significant international security risks.”
In a Tuesday statement, Kushner maintained that EA had “created stories, characters, and communities that have become part of everyday life for hundreds of millions of people” and that Affinity was “excited to support the company as it continues to reach new audiences.”
Meanwhile, organizations like Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have also been highly critical of Saudi Arabia’s overall investments in sports and esports – with some accusing the nation of “sportswashing” to distract international attention from human rights abuses.
PIF has increasingly upped its gaming investments over the years. Beyond EA, the sovereign fund is also a minority investor in fellow gaming giant Nintendo and has a large esports portfolio, including competitive gaming platforms like ESL FACEIT. EA’s “Madden NFL” and “EA Sports FC” (formerly FIFA) will now also fall under that umbrella.
Now that the transaction is complete, EA stockholders will receive $210 in cash per share. And the company’s stock is no longer trading on the public market.

TEXT: Haggai 1:12-15 (KJV)
12 Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the Lord their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the Lord their God had sent him, and the people did fear before the Lord.

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:
Bede Griffiths, a British Catholic priest, dramatically defined obedience in a way that best explains why the returning offspring of Abraham began to enjoy the withheld blessings of Jehovah after hearkening to His charge. Griffiths said pithily, “Obedience is detachment from the self. An elastic meaning of the priest’s statement is that when you obey an order, you are deliberately freeing yourself from your own opinion, reason, will, intention, and deciding to go the way of the order.”
That was exactly what the homecoming exiles from captivity did as they set their feet on their beloved Jerusalem. The Lord had asked them through His servants to rehabilitate His temple. But they were interested in fixing their dilapidated houses first. They did not detach themselves from their will and way. That amounted to alienation from God. Therefore, they were denied His blessings. But they repented and distanced themselves from their self-will and way. Thus, God restored fellowship with His people. He said, “I am with you.” The people were blessed with the needed resources to do the assignment the Lord gave them when they obeyed Him.
Adam and Eve’s disobedience in the Garden of Eden has brought disastrous and untold hardship upon man. Rejecting the way of God is still the bane of humanity. His laws on marriage are being disregarded. His word is misinterpreted by ministers to suit pecuniary pursuits. The Church is accommodating strange doctrines. However, those who take delight in disobeying God’s word will incur His wrath except they repent.
However, Christ, the last Adam, has shown us the everlasting benefits of heeding the Father’s instructions. “And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross” (Philippians 2:8). Our Lord forsook His own will and comfort to die for our sins as desired by the Father. Now, He is highly exalted on the right hand side of God in heaven. To enjoy God’s abiding presence and other promised blessings here and hereafter, obedience to God is necessary. Those who disobey Him risk losing His presence.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY Our love for God is measured by the extent of our obedience to Him.

Rhapsody Of Realities 6 August 2026 By Pastor Chris Oyakhilome (Christ Embassy): A Conscious Awareness
TOPIC: A Conscious Awareness (Rhapsody of Realities 6 August 2026)
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life… – 1 John 5:13
Rhapsody Of Realities For Today’s MESSAGE:
In our previous study, we learnt about the testimony, the witness, the undeniable reality that God has given us eternal life, and “this life” is in the Son. Whoever has the Son has life. In today’s study, observe something beautiful about God’s intention: He wants you to be consciously aware that you have eternal life.
That awareness is vital because when you’re aware of a truth, you act accordingly. So, you ought to know with certainty that you have eternal life, not when you get to heaven but NOW! There’s a difference between having something and being conscious of it. You may possess a reality and yet not live in the good of it because you’re not aware.
Think about it: if you’re told something is extremely hot, even without touching it, you’ll handle it with caution. That awareness influences your actions. In the same way, when you become conscious that you have eternal life, it changes how you think, how you speak, and how you live.
You’re not a human being trying to acquire the divine life, no; you were born divine, being born of God: “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God”(John 1:12-13). It helps you understand why He said through the psalmist, “I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High” (Psalms 82:6).
Take a hold of this truth. Refuse to be more conscious of the human life that’s subject to fear, limitations and the elements of this world. The Word says, “Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust” (2 Peter 1:4). The life in you is the transcendent life. When you’re conscious of it, your life will be the proof of its reality. You’ll manifest the God-life naturally, effortlessly and consistently.
PRAYER
Dear Father, I thank you for my eternal life in Christ Jesus. I live with the consciousness that I have the God-life now, and I walk in this reality every day. Eternal life in me produces victory, excellence and dominion in Christ Jesus. Amen.

Engaging in a squat hold quickly reveals its challenges. Once seated into the stance and your depth is established, the timer begins. Initially, maintaining this position feels quite stable. However, as moments pass, you notice your leg muscles intensifying their effort, your breath becoming more pronounced, all while trying to maintain composure despite the stress. Especially after turning 50, this seemingly simple exercise tells a compelling story about your lower-body strength.
The true benefit lies in the isometric nature of the exercise. While you remain in one static position, your muscles are constantly activated. This cultivates strength across a range of motions you frequently perform, whether rising from a chair, ascending stairs, or descending to the floor. Additionally, it trains your legs to function effectively without momentum’s aid.
Muscle endurance is a crucial aspect here. While robust legs empower confident movement, endurance ensures these muscles continue their tasks as time stretches on. A squat hold provides a clear metric for assessing how efficiently your quads, glutes, and hips preserve their exertion despite increasing fatigue.
Mobility is another critical component of this exercise. Executing a squat requires your hips, knees, and ankles to collaborate, achieving and maintaining a vigorous stance. Spending time in this range can enhance your comfort at various depths, particularly as you incrementally work toward deeper holds. Next, we’ll delve into why the squat hold is so effective, guide you through its proper execution, interpret your timing results, and explore strategies to bolster your holding strength post-50.
4 Morning Exercises That Flatten Muffin Top Faster Than Gym Workouts After 60
How to Perform a Proper Squat Hold
A strong squat hold starts with a position you can control. Your feet should feel grounded, your knees should track with your toes, and your torso should stay tall. Once you find your depth, the goal is to hold the same position while breathing steadily and keeping tension through your legs.
How to Do It:
Stand with your feet about shoulder-width apart, and your toes slightly turned out.
Brace your core before lowering into the squat.
Sit your hips back and down while bending your knees.
Lower until your thighs reach at least parallel or your deepest controlled position.
Keep your chest tall and your weight balanced through your midfoot and heels.
Hold the position while breathing steadily.
Movement Standard: Your squat hold counts when your thighs reach at least parallel, your feet stay planted, and your torso stays controlled. Use a box, chair, wall, or supported variation if you’re building toward that depth.6254a4d1642c605c54bf1cab17d50f1e

Squat Hold Test After 50: What Your Time Means

Your time should come from a clean hold. Keep the same depth, posture, and foot pressure from start to finish. Once your hips rise, your chest drops, or your weight shifts away from a stable base, record the time you held with strong form.
Under 20 seconds: Building Your Base
This is a good starting point if squat holds feel new or your legs fatigue quickly. Focus on finding a depth you can control, keeping your feet rooted, and building comfort under tension. Short holds still work well when your position stays clean.
20 to 45 seconds: A Solid Everyday Foundation
Your legs can support a strong squat position with good control. This range gives you a useful base for daily movement, especially standing from chairs, taking stairs, and staying steady during longer periods on your feet.
45 to 75 seconds: Strong Lower-Body Endurance
Your quads and glutes can stay active for a meaningful stretch of time. This range usually shows solid hip and knee control, better comfort at depth, and the ability to keep your posture organized while fatigue builds.
75+ seconds: Stronger Than 90% of Peers
This is an impressive hold after 50. Your legs can maintain force, your hips and ankles can support the position, and your core can keep your torso steady. A clean hold of more than 75 seconds indicates excellent leg strength, muscular endurance, and squat mobility.

Improving your squat hold takes a mix of strength work, mobility practice, and controlled time under tension. You want your legs to feel strong in the position, your hips and ankles to move well enough to support depth, and your breathing to stay calm while the hold gets harder. The fastest progress usually comes from practicing the hold without turning every set into a max test. Build the position first, then add time. Once the hold feels smoother, longer efforts become much easier to handle.
Practice squat holds two to three times per week: Start with two or three controlled holds and rest enough to keep each set clean.
Use a depth you can own: Hold at parallel when possible. If that depth feels too aggressive right now, start slightly higher and work lower over time.
Add time slowly: Increase your hold by five to 10 seconds once your current time feels steady.
Train full-range squats: Bodyweight squats, goblet squats, and box squats build strength through the movement pattern.
Use tempo reps: Lower slowly, pause briefly, and stand tall. This builds control and adds useful time under tension.
Strengthen your glutes: Bridges, hip thrusts, step-ups, and split squats help your hips support a stronger squat position.
Work on ankle and hip mobility: Calf mobility, hip flexor mobility, and controlled squat prying can help you reach depth more comfortably.
Use support when needed: A wall, rack, countertop, or suspension trainer can help you practice depth while keeping the position smooth.
Retest every few weeks: Use the same depth, setup, and timer so your progress stays easy to measure.
A strong squat hold gives you a clear look at leg strength, endurance, and mobility in one simple test. Holding past 75 seconds after 50 shows a lower body with serious staying power. That strength shows up in stairs, chairs, long walks, and the everyday moments where capable legs make life feel easier.

In Missouri, a man has been taken into custody after reportedly fatally shooting a woman in the presence of her children, authorities in the Show-Me State report.
Antwon Shirley, age 43, faces serious charges including second-degree murder, armed criminal action, burglary, unlawful possession of a firearm, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, as detailed by Jackson County prosecutors.
The tragic event unfolded on Saturday, August 1, at a home located on Agnes Avenue in Kansas City’s North Town Fork Creek area, resulting in the death of 38-year-old Nevada N. Mosley.
Responding to the scene just before 7 a.m., Kansas City Police officers began their investigation, according to court documents sourced from The Kansas City Star and local news from Fox affiliate WDAF.
Inside, Mosley was found in a bedroom suffering from two gunshot wounds, police said. The victim was then rushed to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead. On the bedroom floor, investigators found shell casings and paperwork belonging to both Shirley and Mosley, according to a probable cause statement.
The door to the bedroom had been kicked in and Shirley’s vehicle was seen outside the residence on surveillance footage, police said.
Attention soon focused on Shirley as the suspect because three juveniles at the residence told police he was responsible for the violence, police said. One of the children said they heard “the sound of something clicking” before the victim was shot, while two others were asleep at the time of the shooting, according to law enforcement.
The little girl who was awake said she saw Shirley aim his gun at Mosley, police said. Then, the woman tried to get out of bed but hit her head on an adjacent dresser, according to law enforcement, citing the child witness. Next, three shots rang out and the child ran out of the bedroom to find a relative, according to the charging document.
Another witness told investigators Mosley and Shirley “hadn’t been getting along” as of late and that the man was “very jealous,” according to the probable cause statement. Mosley had also asked Shirley to give her back the keys to her home, police said.
After the shooting, one of Shirley’s relatives contacted police to say she had spoken with the defendant who allegedly admitted “he’d done something bad,” according to the charging document. Shirley allegedly told this relative that he “snapped” and shot Mosley.
On two occasions, speaking with two different witnesses, the defendant said he was going to turn himself in, theorizing that “the whole city” was going to be looking for him, according to the probable cause statement. First, however, police believe the defendant made efforts to conceal his location by disposing of his cellphone and getting rid of a vehicle registered in his name.
On Sunday, Aug. 2, Shirley surrendered to police.
The defendant is detained in the Jackson County Detention Center on a $500,000 cash-only bond. He is slated to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 2.
