Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, joyfully announced the arrival of their newborn daughter in Portugal.

Taking to Instagram, the niece of King Charles expressed her excitement, stating, “Jack and I are thrilled to introduce Baby Girl Brooksbank!! We are head over heels in love with our little one.”

Accompanying the heartwarming announcement was a photograph of the baby peacefully lying on a bed, sparking an outpouring of congratulatory messages from followers.

The couple splits their time between a charming villa in Portugal and a cozy cottage at Kensington Palace.

While their daughter does not hold an HRH title, her birth positions her 15th in the line of succession, nudging her great-uncle, the Duke of Edinburgh, down to 16th place.

The daughter of disgraced Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson has yet to reveal the newborn’s name.

The Royal Family’s official Instagram account warmly received the news in a heartfelt message posted just moments after the birth was announced. 

A statement read: ‘Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter, born on Monday, 3rd August 2026, at 6.20pm, at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugal.

‘The baby was born weighing 6 pounds 9 ounces.

‘Their Majesties The King and Queen and other members of The Royal Family were delighted to be informed of the news.’

Buckingham Palace officials previously revealed the couple’s sons August, five, and Ernest, two, were ‘very excited’ to welcome a new member of the family.

In a photo shared by Eugenie in May, Ernest, wearing a Chelsea football kit, and August, wearing a long-sleeved grey T-shirt, can be seen holding a picture of a baby scan. 

She will also be the 15th great-grandchild of the late Queen Elizabeth II, and the third to be born since her death in 2022.

The new arrival will be the fifth grandchild of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, following the birth of Princess Beatrice’s daughter Athena Mapelli Mozzi in January last year.

The baby’s grandfather Andrew – the King’s brother – was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office in February amid the scandal surrounding his friendship with the late paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein. 

Eugenie and Jack married at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle in October 2018, and welcomed their first child, August, on February 9, 2021.

His younger brother Ernest was born on May 30, 2023.

Eugenie is known to be a doting parent who has repeatedly spoken about the joys of motherhood.

The couple, who split their time between a Portuguese villa and a Kensington Palace cottage, affectionately call their boys Augie and Ernie.

Next to the announcement photo shared in May by Eugenie, a message read, ‘Baby Brooksbank due 2026!’ and was followed by a series of red heart emojis and one of a baby.

A Buckingham Palace statement at the time said: ‘Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank are very pleased to announce that they are expecting their third child together, due this summer.

‘August (aged five) and Ernest (aged two) are also very excited to have another sibling join the family.

‘His Majesty The King has been informed and is delighted with the news.’

Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie in June staged their own surprise show of sisterly unity at their cousin Peter Phillips’s ‘intimate wedding’ in the Cotswolds.

It was their first public appearance together since their disgraced father was arrested in February on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

And while Andrew has been stripped of his title and all royal privileges, his daughters showed they were only too keen to maintain their own position in the Royal Family, days after a National Audit report revealed they have not paid a penny in rent for years.

Beatrice, 37, and Eugenie, 36, arrived separately at the venue in Kemble, Gloucestershire, and were dropped off at a house next to the All Saints Church, out of sight of the waiting press.

They then teamed up for a coordinated public entrance together, flanked by their respective husbands, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi and Jack Brooksbank, in full view of the cameras.

The move meant that the pair were far more visible as they were photographed during a long walk up from their drop-off spot instead of being deposited – like all the other royal guests – directly outside the church gate.

The wedding was the first occasion where both Beatrice and Eugenie were seen with other members of the Royal Family since the Christmas Day service at Sandringham.

Both missed the Easter celebrations and events to celebrate the late Queen Elizabeth’s centenary.

In Connecticut, a woman facing charges related to a fatal drunk driving incident, which claimed the lives of an off-duty police officer and his girlfriend, has been identified as an undocumented immigrant. Federal authorities disclosed on Monday that ICE has called on state officials to prevent her release from custody, should that scenario arise.

The Department of Homeland Security confirmed to News Media that ICE issued a detainer for 27-year-old Melissa Esperanza Ramirez-Romero, who was arrested following a tragic head-on collision on July 13. The crash resulted in the deaths of 38-year-old Bridgeport Police Officer Cooper Whiteside and his 34-year-old partner, Brittany Islami.

“Melissa Esperanza Ramirez-Romero, a criminal illegal alien, is facing charges for Vehicular Manslaughter and DUI,” a DHS representative reported to News Media. “On July 26, 2026, a detainer was filed against her by ICE.”

The Department escalated its warnings through a post on platform X, highlighting that “an illegal alien KILLED A COP in Danbury, Connecticut.” The agency urged Connecticut’s policymakers to work alongside ICE, stressing the importance of not allowing Ramirez to be released back into the public sphere due to sanctuary city policies.

Ramirez-Romero is charged with two counts of second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle, operating under the influence, traveling unreasonably fast and failure to drive in the proper lane.

Danbury police said the crash happened around 2:45 a.m. July 13 on Sugar Hollow Road, where a Jeep Compass collided head-on with a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Officers found Whiteside of Danbury and his passenger, Islami of New Milford, dead at the scene. Ramirez-Romero was taken to Danbury Hospital with serious injuries.

Whiteside, a Danbury native who dreamed of becoming a police officer since childhood, graduated third in his police academy class and served with the Bridgeport Police Department for two years before he was killed.

The department mourned Whiteside’s death the day after the crash, saying he “served with selfless dedication” while extending its condolences to his family and loved ones.

“Rest easy, brother,” the department wrote. “We’ll take it from here.”

The DHS announcement came as Connecticut officials worked to correct false claims that Ramirez-Romero had been registered to vote.

Connecticut Secretary of State Stephanie Thomas said in a video that Ramirez-Romero has never been registered to vote in Connecticut and that an innocent U.S. citizen with the same name was mistakenly identified online, leading to death threats against the unrelated woman.

“The defendant charged in connection with the July 13 crash that killed an off-duty Bridgeport police officer is not and has never been registered to vote in Connecticut,” Thomas said. “The voter registration record circulating online belongs to a different person entirely. Another Melissa Ramirez, a United States citizen who lives in New Britain, is legally registered to vote in Connecticut.”

Danbury police also warned that multiple people with similar names had been mistakenly identified online and urged the public to verify information before sharing it.

Ramirez-Romero remained held on a $500,000 bond pending her next court appearance.

With a downcast gaze and a palpable sense of shame, the suspect implicated in the chilling kidnapping of a cherished father appeared in court for the first time. This heinous act resulted in the man’s tragic execution, his life ending in the trunk of a car.

During a Tuesday morning court session, Jianquan Bo faced serious allegations, including kidnapping and murder charges tied to the brutal death of Shukur Aikebaer. Bo, with the support of an attorney and aided by a translation device, firmly declared his innocence by entering a plea of not guilty.

Bo’s legal journey continues with another court appearance scheduled for August 12, where new developments may unfold.

Authorities allege that Bo played a significant role in the kidnapping plot targeting Aikebaer. They assert that his brother, Zhengfeng Bo, aged 67, was the one who fired the shots that ultimately claimed Aikebaer’s life. This violent episode concluded when deputies engaged Zhengfeng in a fatal officer-involved shooting.

The chilling sequence of events began to unfurl on the night of July 29, at approximately 10:14 p.m. Investigators suspect Zhengfeng and Jianquan traveled to Aikebaer’s Chino Hills residence with a deadly plan. According to detectives, their strategy involved cutting the home’s electricity supply, an apparent ploy to coax Aikebaer into stepping outside.

When he stepped out to investigate, authorities allege Zhengfeng Bo shot him once in the torso before the suspects forced the wounded man into the trunk of their Nissan Altima and drove away.

A neighbor’s 911 call reporting gunfire and providing a description of the vehicle helped deputies quickly locate the car. Deputies attempted a traffic stop, but the driver led them on a brief pursuit of about two miles before stopping in Chino Hills.

Sheriff Shannon Dicus said deputies were unaware anyone was inside the trunk. Investigators allege Zhengfeng then exited the vehicle, opened the trunk and fatally shot Aikebaer in the head.

Deputies immediately returned fire, killing Zhengfeng at the scene. Jianquan was taken into custody, and Aikebaer was pronounced dead.

Authorities say the killing stemmed from a deteriorating business relationship, possibly involving financial losses or disagreements over company decisions.

Zhengfeng was CEO of Panshi Inc., a commercial real estate firm, while Aikebaer served as the company’s chief financial officer and secretary. Panshi was also embroiled in a lawsuit with Panoptic Development over control of a $20 million, 75-unit Pasadena apartment complex.

Court records show Panshi, which owned a 70% stake in the property, voted in March to remove Panoptic as the building’s manager.

San Bernardino County District Attorney Jason Anderson said Zhengfeng Bo’s family has been left devastated by the events, during a news conference Monday.

In a dramatic incident at a New York airport, a Russian woman was arrested and shackled in chains before being confined in an ICE detention center, according to her daughter.

Alevtina Soboleva, 59, was taken into custody at Buffalo Niagara International Airport on July 20. She was on her way back to California after enjoying a vacation in Niagara Falls with her daughter.

“They didn’t just put handcuffs on her; they also shackled her in chains,” her daughter, Daria Soboleva, revealed to KRON.

“She told me it was extremely painful and pleaded with them to loosen the chains, but her requests were ignored,” Daria added.

In October 2021, Alevtina arrived in the United States from Moscow on a six-month tourist visa to visit her daughter in Sunnyvale, California. However, before her visa could expire, Russia initiated its military campaign against Ukraine.

Immigration attorne Regina Jacobson said that Alevtina – who had spoken out against the invasion – then applied for asylum. 

‘People cannot go back to their countries because they are seeking asylum and they are in danger. Alevtina can’t go to prison if she goes to Russia,’ Jacobson said.

Daughter Daria added: ‘She’s very, very, very responsible, and I’m responsible. So to me, this is a shock. 

‘I don’t know what happened because we did everything right based on all the procedural things that we were advised [with]  by the government. I don’t understand what happened.’

Jacobson said those seeking asylum receive a letter which states that their presence in the US is authorized, ‘but nowadays the current administration took the position that they can still take people like that into custody because their local presence in the United States expired.’

A website her daughter created to help her mother said: ‘Deportation would send a 59-year-old woman, alone, back to a country at war – one where criticizing that war is now a crime, and where having sought political asylum in the United States is itself viewed by the authorities with hostility.’

Soboleva’s health has also been in decline while she has been held at a southern Louisiana detention facility, according to Soboleva and her daughter, Jacobson told the outlet. 

Daria wrote that Soboleva lives with a progressive neurological disorder ‘and is ill with an untreated fever.’ 

‘She was stopped at the Buffalo airport before her flight home to California by three plain-clothes officers who called it “a document check.” No documents were requested. She has not been home since,’ Daria wrote. 

According to her daughter, Soboleva was detained and moved to Mahoning County Jail in Ohio overnight before she was sent to Louisiana, her third facility in three days. 

On July 23, an officer told Jacobson that Soboleva had already been deported while ICE’s locator showed her in custody at Basile. Soboleva was granted her first phone call on July 24 and a video call the following day. 

‘She [was] visibly ill – a fever with no medication, no warm clothing against the facility’s heavy industrial air condition, and no glasses, which she needs to read forms or use the phone system,’ Daria wrote. 

According to her daughter, Soboleva suffers a condition that affects her balance and coordination – which was diagnosed before her detention. 

‘Her doctors had project that she could lose the ability to walk, and be in a wheelchair, within a few years… In her calls from detention, she reports that she now feels too unsteady to cross a room without keep a hand on the wall,’ the site states. 

Daria said Soboleva also suffers from high cholesterol, is prediabetic and has hearing loss in her left ear which requires a prescribed hearing aid. 

Her daughter and Soboleva are hoping that a judge will release her on an immigration bond pending her removal hearing, KRON reported. 

‘I really, really hope that with the help of the community, the place where she lives, all of her friends, there just – there is an army of friends who are staying here and trying to see if there is a way to support her,’ Daria said.

‘I really hope that we can bring her home.’

Daria said on her website that her mother holds a valid work permit, a California REAL ID and has active medical insurance. Soboleva has also been an ESL student at Mission College in Santa Clara to learn English since 2023 and holds no criminal record. 

Jacobson claimed arrests similar to Soboleva’s experience are occurring more and more frequently, and advised any asylum seekers with a pending application to avoid traveling. 

‘My mother followed every rule this country gave her. She has spent a week being moved, chained and hidden from court that is supposed to hear her. All we are asking if that the system see her – and send her home,’ Daria wrote.

An Arizona resident, who claims to have been left partially paralyzed following a “swatting” prank that led to a police shooting, is now seeking $176 million in damages from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

At 24, Axeel Melendez, alongside his mother, Carmen Melendez, has submitted a notice of claim against both the Pima County Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Chris Nanos, hinting at the possibility of a lawsuit, as reported by Arizona Public Media.

Dev Sethi, Melendez’s attorney, explained to the news outlet that a swatting incident targeted Melendez and his mother. This led to a large-scale police response at their location. Swatting involves making false emergency calls to provoke a reaction from law enforcement.

“Our justice system upholds the value of human life and the integrity of one’s physical being. Axeel has had his health, independence, earning potential, and peace of mind taken from him,” Sethi remarked.

Someone impersonating Melendez initially called 311, a non-emergency number, on April 10 and said his father shot his sister, giving the address for Melendez.

“This morning of the April 10 call has many red flags and hallmarks of it being a fake call, including…this call came into 311. Nobody reporting an emergency calls 311,” Sethi said.

Sethi said the call was made from an out of state area code and added the caller didn’t pronounce Melendez’s first name correctly.

Melendez received a threatening message from a hacker who stole his personal information during an online video game and demanded a ransom to return his accounts and passwords, his attorney said, even threatening to report him to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement because of his Hispanic name.

After the threat, Melendez called 911 and shared his concerns about a possible swatting incident and was allegedly reassured there are safeguards.

“He tells a 911 operator all of this and she essentially downplays it and says, ‘Don’t worry, that’s not how it works. They can’t just call 911 and have the SWAT team show up at your house,” Sethi said.

According to the attorney, Pima County deputies allegedly ignored a warning that Melendez’s address was a known possible swatting target, stating that she approached the home with a mindset to “treat it like it’s real until it’s not real.”

Believing an intruder was breaking in, Melendez grabbed his family’s legally owned handgun and took cover behind his bedroom door as deputies smashed through the window, according to the claim. The deputies then allegedly opened fire.

Melendez says he was hit in his right thigh and left shoulder, which left him with a spinal court injury in addition to broken ribs and a broken leg.

“He did everything we teach our kids to do. When you’re in danger, when somebody’s threatening you, what’s the first thing we tell all of our children? Call the police,” Sethi said. “Axeel is a vulnerable young man, his life has been upended. He has real present needs and we’ve given them an opportunity to do the right thing and resolve the case, but the ball is wholly in their courts.”

Questions are swirling around Tony Romo’s future at CBS, with uncertainty looming over his broadcasting career.

Romo was placed on leave by CBS following his arrest on July 23 for operating while intoxicated (OWI) in Wisconsin. The Athletic has pointed out that, despite being locked into a long-term contract, there’s a pathway for the network to distance itself from the seasoned broadcaster entirely.

Romo’s substantial 10-year agreement, valued at $180 million, contains a morals clause—a standard in high-profile contracts. This clause gives networks the right to reconsider their ties with talent if public scandals tarnish the brand’s image, The Athletic added.

Although Romo is poised to earn a hefty $72 million over the coming four years, his current status is “on leave” from CBS, with the network stating this situation will persist “until further notice.”

Stepping into Romo’s shoes for the time being is Texas sports icon J.J. Watt, who will join the esteemed broadcast team alongside veterans Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson.

While driving in Wisconsin on July 23, Romo was stopped on the road around 8 p.m. and didn’t pass sobriety tests. Romo was taken into custody, booked and released. 

Romo was driving his Black Jeep, and the sheriff’s office said he had an open container of alcohol in it. Court records indicated he refused to “take test for intoxication after arrest.” 

The former Cowboys quarterback is scheduled for a court hearing Sept. 21, but isn’t required to attend. 

The 46-year-old also faces a total of $1,568.50 in fines. 

After retiring from the NFL in 2017, Romo joined CBS as a color analyst, and has been the lead analyst for the network’s NFL coverage for nine years. 

Although Romo was once considered the “golden boy” of NFL commentary, fans have grown increasingly critical of him recently due to his style and overexuberance. 

Before his broadcasting career, Romo spent 12 seasons with the Cowboys, throwing for 248 touchdowns while earning four Pro Bowl nods.
