In a related tale of violence tied to immigration protests, an undocumented immigrant faces federal prison after a daring assault during last year’s anti-ICE riots in Los Angeles. Prosecutors say the individual, who poured lighter fluid onto a burning California Highway Patrol car while officers were trapped beneath a freeway overpass, has been convicted and sentenced.

Yachua Mauricio Flores, a 23-year-old from Mexico residing in Los Angeles’ Lincoln Heights, was dealt a 37-month federal prison sentence on Monday. Additionally, Flores must pay $253,415 in restitution for his actions during the riot on June 8, 2025, as stated by the U.S. Department of Justice.

According to federal prosecutors, Flores positioned himself on the Main Street overpass above U.S. Highway 101. From this vantage point, he joined others in bombarding the officers below with an array of projectiles, including rocks, concrete, fireworks, street signs, and flaming debris.

As a CHP cruiser burned beneath the overpass, Flores poured lighter fluid from two separate bottles onto the flames, causing the fire to intensify, according to court records.

Prosecutors said he then directed another rioter to pour a flaming liquid onto the vehicle before helping throw an electric scooter over the railing toward CHP officers and patrol vehicles below.

Flores admitted he knew officers were trapped beneath the overpass and acknowledged that hurling heavy objects and burning debris created a substantial risk of death or serious bodily injury, according to his plea agreement. He pleaded guilty in April to one count of obstructing, impeding and interfering with law enforcement officers during a civil disorder.

“Violent attacks on law enforcement will result in federal prison time,” First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli said in a statement. “Those who escalate chaos and endanger officers will be held accountable. Today’s sentence reflects our commitment to protecting the men and women sworn to keep our communities safe.”

The attack unfolded two days after violence erupted during federal immigration enforcement operations in Los Angeles, leading to days of anti-ICE riots across the city.

Federal prosecutors have charged seven people in connection with the Main Street overpass attack, alleging several worked together to target the CHP cruiser and the officers trapped beneath it.

According to court records, Flores, Ismael Vega, 42, and Adam Charles Palermo, 40, all helped drop burning debris toward the cruiser while other rioters hurled rocks, chunks of concrete, fireworks and other objects at officers attempting to clear the overpass.

Flores is the latest person sentenced in the case. Vega received the same 37-month prison sentence last week after admitting he helped ignite burning debris that prosecutors said Flores later intensified with lighter fluid.

Palermo, who prosecutors have described as the lead participant in the attack, is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 14 after pleading guilty to assaulting, resisting and impeding people assisting federal officers with a deadly or dangerous weapon. He faces up to 20 years in federal prison.

Following Monday’s sentencing, Essayli highlighted the case in a post on X.

“Another day, another illegal immigration rioter from last summer is sent to federal prison,” Essayli wrote.

“Actions have consequences. Those who attack law enforcement will face the full force of justice. This defendant can now reflect on his actions from a federal prison cell.”

The FBI investigated the case with assistance from the California Highway Patrol and the Los Angeles Police Department.

Bo Nix is gearing up for a prolific 2026 season.

The Denver Broncos quarterback, currently on the mend from a fractured right ankle he sustained during a January clash in the AFC divisional round, is optimistic about bouncing back in full health by September.

“I’m feeling fantastic,” Nix announced to the media this past weekend. “Everything feels normal, with no limitations. I’m on the field playing just as I always have, and I feel extremely confident in my condition. My goal is to keep pushing forward, making progress, and ensuring I’m physically primed for this long season ahead.”

At 26 years of age, Nix revealed that he is exceeding his recovery expectations and is exactly where he needs to be in his offseason preparation.

In his third year in the NFL, Nix’s injury occurred during the penultimate play of a nail-biting 33-30 overtime victory over the Buffalo Bills on January 17.

Three days later, Nix underwent surgery on the ankle, followed by another procedure in April.

Despite an ugly ending to the season, Nix had 3,931 yards and 25 touchdowns against 11 interceptions on a 63.4 percent completion percentage in 2025.

On the ground, Nix continued to show his ability to improvise, adding 356 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.

Nix said the injury won’t take away from his mobility in 2026 at all.

“I’m going to roll, and I’m going to be as athletic as I can be. It’s a strength of ours and we have to use our strengths,” Nix said.

“For me, that’s when I feel at my best and that’s when I feel free. When I’m playing like that, when I’m moving around it’s a good thing, but at the same time, I also know what it’s like to not have that asset and have to stay in the pocket.”

Nix said his mobility gives him confidence, no matter what challenge the defense presents him.

Coach Sean Payton called his ability to roll out of pressure “one of his superpowers.”

Nix was sacked 22 times in 2026, despite a league-high 612 pass attempts.

“It’s hard to sack some quarterbacks — he’s one of them,” Payton said Saturday.

“That was something you saw on college ⁠tape. In ​our league when you take a sack, you just do the analytics ​on what your points become in that drive, or likelihood to kick a field goal and it all drops dramatically. So it’s certainly one ​of his strengths.”

On Monday, President Donald Trump renewed his public criticism of US Attorney and ex-Fox News host Jeanine Pirro, amid speculation about her potential termination.

The President’s frustration with Pirro was apparent following the decision by her office to drop charges against US Olympian David Hearn, who had been accused of damaging the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

Expressing his disappointment forcefully to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump remarked, ‘I was disappointed with Jeanine Pirro, really disappointed with Jeanine Pirro. She folded like an umbrella, and people get away with things, and it’s a disgrace.’

Pirro, whose background includes serving as a judge and district attorney, transitioned to Fox News in 2006 before Trump appointed her as the US Attorney for Washington, DC in May 2025.

Trump further criticized her actions by stating, ‘Frankly, I think she choked,’ and remarked, ‘I don’t know what the hell happened.’

The President was personally involved with the $16 million renovation of the pool as part of his goal to beautify Washington, DC ahead of America’s 250th anniversary.

After the high-profile and speedy renovation of the pool, portions of the liner detached from the bottom of the pool and floated toward the surface in June, sparking public mockery of Trump’s project.

Pirro’s office moved to dismiss the charges of federal vandalism against Hearn after he was spotted reaching into the water of the reflecting pool to examine a piece of detached reflecting pool liner in June. 

US Park Police arrested Hearn, and he was subsequently indicted on a single felony count of property destruction. Hearn pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The court filing released Friday cited new evidence in the case that ‘undermines the evidentiary basis for the indictment’ and dismissed the case. 

The filing revealed that new documents indicated that the damage to the pool ‘was the result of a botched installation and not vandalism as initially represented’ by the Interior Department.

‘Given all of this newly discovered information, it is difficult to attribute the widespread damage to the Reflecting Pool to vandalism, let alone to establish that fact beyond a reasonable doubt,’ the filing states.

Hearn told the Daily Mail last month his arrest and the subsequent charges were wrong.

‘It’s a completely unfounded accusation. It’s a lie,’ Hearn said over the phone. ‘I didn’t rip, tear, destruct, destroy, or harm in any way, any part of the reflecting pool.’

Trump did not indicate to reporters that he would replace Pirro in the position, although he was reportedly ‘furious’ by what he considered a grave error.

When MS Now reporter Jake Traylor asked the President if he was reconsidering her role, he dismissed the question.

‘You’re fake news. Don’t ever talk again,’ he replied sharply. ‘You’re fake news. One of the worst in the business.’

In a tragic incident that has gripped two communities, a cadet from The Citadel and a member of the South Carolina Army National Guard tragically lost his life in Florida. Authorities are urgently seeking leads in the case after the bodies of two young men were discovered in an empty lot.

The grim discovery took place in DeLand, as police reported finding Dustin Rose, 19, and Samson Campbell, 18, both shot to death late Wednesday night. Investigators have yet to determine the motive behind this act of violence, nor have they named a suspect publicly. The two victims shared a longstanding friendship dating back to their childhood.

At the time of his death, Rose was enjoying a break from his studies at The Citadel Military College of South Carolina. He had recently fulfilled a significant milestone by joining the South Carolina Army National Guard, working tirelessly toward his lifelong goal of a military career. According to a report by FOX 35, his ambitions and dedication were well known to those close to him.

In an effort to uncover more about this mysterious case, police have issued a still from surveillance footage captured the night before the grim event. The footage shows the two friends walking side by side, though it remains unclear whether they were targeted in this senseless attack.

One of the victims’ mothers may have been among the family members who found the two dead after they went unreachable by phone, authorities previously said.

Campbell, who’s originally from DeLand, was living with his aunt Karen Chobin in the Chicago area. Chobin said Campbell was in town to mourn the death of his family’s 8-year-old dog, who recently died, and was staying with Rose’s grandparents.

Rose was in DeLand to help Campbell spread his dog’s ashes, Chobin said.

“It was a traumatic loss. It wasn’t a passing of old age. It was awful. And then for this to be what he’s welcomed with when he goes down there to mourn his loss is devastating,” Chobin said.

Rose’s aunt, Jaimie Scarola, told FOX 35 his life was taken too soon.

“He was willing to go to the front line and fight for our freedom, including the freedom of the one who took him from us,” Scarola said. “You took him away from not only his family, but you robbed an entire country of a future soldier who didn’t get to answer that call.”

While a suspect hasn’t yet been identified, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant on Saturday night at a home in DeLand with help from the Volusia Sheriff’s Office SWAT team and the FBI’s Safe Streets Task Force, according to FOX 35.

In a troubling development, victims of the severe cyclospora outbreak linked to contaminated food from Taylor Farms can anticipate receiving substantial compensation. Legal experts informed The Post on Monday that settlements could reach tens of thousands of dollars, as the outbreak, sadly, has already claimed its first lives.

Legal teams representing hundreds affected by the outbreak—traced back to lettuce served at Taco Bell—suggest that compensation could vary significantly. Some victims may receive amounts ranging from $20,000 to a staggering $1 million based on the gravity of their cases. An unfortunate death tied to the outbreak could result in a seven-figure settlement.

“No one ever chooses to miss work, skip family gatherings, or rack up medical expenses,” asserted Ryan Osterholm, a food safety lawyer from OFT Law, who is advocating for around 400 confirmed victims.

Among those suffering, one client, a septuagenarian, is enduring kidney failure and is currently dependent on dialysis. This information was shared by Osterholm, highlighting the grave impact of the outbreak.

“There is a legitimate concern for his life,” expressed Osterholm, emphasizing the urgency and seriousness of the situation.

Two Michiganders who’d been diagnosed with cyclosporiasis and had underlying health conditions have died, the state health department said Monday.

State reports have logged over 20,000 cyclosporiasis cases nationwide — with around 11,200 in Michigan alone.

Last month, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention linked the outbreak to Taylor Farms’ Mexican-grown lettuce that was distributed to Taco Bells in five states.

Taylor Farms issued a recall on July 17 of all iceberg lettuce grown in Mexico.

But the outbreak has now reached all 50 states. As of recently, that includes New Hampshire, which linked Taylor Farms lettuce to 17 people who ate at a medical center cafeteria and contracted cyclosporiasis in June and July.

Food safety attorneys are already in discussions with Taylor Farms’ legal counsel, which will likely handle the vast majority of any settlements and lawsuits in this outbreak, which began in May. 

Taco Bell has also been named as a defendant in lawsuits, but its contract with Taylor Farms likely includes language stating “if you send me contaminated product, it’s your problem, not mine,” said food safety attorney Bill Marler, who is also representing about 400 victims in this outbreak.

Most of the legal battles will focus on Salinas, Calif.-based Taylor Farms, which accounts for 40% of bagged or packaged salads in the US, according to a Bloomberg report. Taylor Farms issued a recall of certain bagged lettuces sold at retail stores, including Walmart.

“We are still trying to get information to [Taylor Farms], including medical records,” Osterholm said. “There is no way that we can be talking dollar and cents yet.”

It will likely take six months to a year before victims will be compensated for their ordeals, lawyers told The Post.

“A lot of people are just getting diagnosed now after being sick for several weeks,” Osterholm said.

The parasite that causes cyclospora, which results in vomiting and explosive diarrhea, among other symptoms, is found in human feces that can find its way to irrigation systems.

This year’s cyclospora outbreak is the largest outbreak on record, experts say. 

Taylor Farms posted a statement on its website last week saying: “We’ve commissioned independent experts to conduct a top-to-bottom review of food safety processes and protocols in our central Mexico facility, where as of July 18, 2026 we have temporarily suspended production of all products.

“We continue to work with health authorities, customers, and independent farming partners to address this issue.”

In 2021, Capital One took substantial action by shutting down hundreds of banking accounts tied to former President Donald Trump and his business operations. This decision, as per recent court documentation from the bank, was taken on “anti-money laundering grounds.”
