KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WDAF) – In a tragic turn of events, Mia Bieniemy, wife of Kansas City Chiefs’ offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, sustained gunshot wounds Sunday night at their Virginia residence.

According to ESPN, the 57-year-old was quickly transported to the hospital following the incident at her home in Ashburn.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office reported that officers responded to the shooting incident near Washington, D.C., around 7:32 p.m. ET on Sunday. Upon arrival, they discovered a woman with multiple gunshot injuries, who was subsequently rushed to a local hospital, her condition critical.

While the sheriff’s department has yet to formally name the victim, ESPN has identified her as Mia Bieniemy.

In a shocking development, authorities have charged 27-year-old Elijah Zion Bieniemy, son of Eric and Mia Bieniemy, in relation to the shooting. He faces multiple charges, including malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and firing a firearm within a residence.

Elijah Zion Bieniemy was booked into the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center and is being held without bond.

Investigators said the case remains under investigation, but they do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public.

The Chiefs said in a statement they are “aware of the incident involving Eric Bieniemy’s family,” but did not provide additional details.

Eric Bieniemy has been in St. Joseph, Missouri, for the Chiefs’ training camp at Missouri Western State University.

He returned to Kansas City earlier this year as the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator. He previously served in the same role from 2018 to 2022.

Before rejoining the Chiefs’ coaching staff, he coached for the Washington Commanders, UCLA Bruins and the Chicago Bears.

A vibrant life was cut short when a budding real estate talent was tragically struck during a morning run in Southampton, New York.

The New York Post noted that 29-year-old Stefanie Rock, while jogging in Water Mill shortly after 9 a.m. on a Friday, was fatally hit by a vehicle.

An ambitious professional, Rock completed her studies at Vanderbilt University in 2019, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in human and organizational development.

Most recently, she channeled her expertise as a brokerage associate with the global firm Jones Lang LaSalle, widely recognized as JLL, as indicated on her LinkedIn profile.

The driver allegedly involved in the deadly crash was in a Toyota, and did cooperate with police; authorities have not identified this person behind the wheel.

Accused in the tragic shooting of a 12-year-old boy in front of a Bronx bodega, a man remains in custody on several grave charges, including second-degree murder.

Forty-five-year-old William Ferrer faced a court hearing on Sunday evening, dealing with accusations of murder, assault, and illegal weapon possession. Authorities claim Ferrer unleashed gunfire during a scuffle in the South Bronx on Saturday, resulting in the death of young Jacob Freytes and injuring two others.

Jacob Freytes, child of a retired NYPD officer, tragically lost his life after being hit by a stray bullet in the chest. He succumbed to his injuries at a hospital, as detailed in the criminal complaint.

The chaotic shooting also wounded two adult men, one suffering a bullet wound to the buttocks and the other to the foot, according to the legal documents.

Both injured men received medical treatment at nearby hospitals.

Ferrer was charged with second-degree murder, second-degree attempted murder, first-degree manslaughter, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, according to the complaint.

He was remanded in custody, and no details were given about his next court appearance.

Freytes, who had cycled to the bodega on Elliott Place near Grand Concourse to buy a ball, was an innocent bystander when Ferrer allegedly started shooting.

Heartbreaking security video shows the boy watching the fight before a man pulls out a gun and starts shooting, at which point Freytes clutches his chest and runs back into the bodega.

Wearing a plain white T-shirt and black Nike sweatpants, Ferrer showed no emotion as he was led out of the 44th Precinct stationhouse on Sunday afternoon.

A small crowd of bystanders glared at the alleged killer as he was led into a waiting unmarked police car.

Ferrer has a lengthy rap sheet, with half a dozen previous arrests, including drug possession in 2013, marijuana possession in 2009, drunk-driving in 2009, and possession of stolen property in The Bronx in 2004, police sources told The Post.

He was first arrested at least as far back as 1999 for possession of a forced instrument, before being arrested again in 2001 separately for alleged menacing and criminal contempt, sources said.

A repeat offender in Texas has been handed a hefty 50-year prison sentence after being found guilty of his fifth drunk driving offense.

Last week, a jury in Texas convicted 34-year-old Eugenio Les Zavala for driving under the influence in Montgomery County on February 17, 2025, as confirmed by court documents reviewed by the Daily Mail.

The arrest of Zavala took place last year during a traffic stop executed by deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, according to the district attorney’s statement.

Investigations revealed that Zavala was uncooperative, refusing to leave his car, arguing with the officers, and actively resisting arrest.

Deputies observed Zavala with glossy eyes, slurred speech, and a noticeable smell of alcohol on his breath. Additionally, two beers were discovered inside his vehicle.

Zavala, who was alone in the vehicle, refused to be breathalyzed, undergo a field sobriety test, or participate in a blood draw to calculate his blood alcohol concentration (BAC), prosecutors said.

A search warrant was issued for the blood test, which prosecutors say revealed that Zavala had a BAC of 0.15 – nearly twice the legal limit.

Prosecutors told the court how this was Zavala’s fifth DWI offense, which they alleged proved he was a habitual felony offender, court records show.

Zavala was arrested for drunk driving in nearby Harris County, Texas in 2012, 2016, 2018 and 2023, the jury heard.

During his two-day trial last week, prosecutors urged the jury to consider his prior felony convictions when determining his sentence.

‘When someone repeatedly chooses to endanger others, our responsibility is clear: act decisively before another family pays the price,’ District Attorney Mike Holley said of Zavala’s offenses.

He argued that the 34-year-old was a continued threat to public safety.

Under Texas penal code, punishment for a habitual offender with two prior sequential felony convictions can range from 25 years to life imprisonment.

The jury convicted Zavala, who pled not guilty and opted to represent himself at trial, of a DWI on July 21 and set his punishment to 50 years in prison, according to a judgement of conviction filing.

‘Five DWI convictions tell a story. At some point, repeated chances become repeated choices,’ Assistant District Attorney James Roberts said in light of the sentencing.

‘The jury recognized that this pattern endangered everyone who shares our roads, and their verdict reflects the seriousness of that risk.’

Holley added: ‘Justice is measured not only by the cases we prosecute, but by the lives we help protect.’

Zavala’s two-day trial concluded with his sentence being handed down by Judge Keith Stewart in the 221st District Court on July 21.

He has now obtained an attorney and has now moved to appeal the conviction, court records showed.

Robert Bartlett, representing Zavala, filed a written notice of appeal last Thursday.

The convict, meanwhile, remains in custody at the Montgomery County Jail.
