Bryan Kohberger Forgoes Appeal Rights, Pursues Post-Conviction Relief Options: Sources Report

0

In the unfolding legal saga surrounding Bryan Kohberger, new details have emerged regarding his intentions after pleading guilty to the horrific murder of four University of Idaho students during a pre-dawn intrusion. Sources closely linked to the case reveal that Kohberger plans to seek post-conviction relief.

Central to Kohberger’s post-conviction strategy is his claim of inadequate legal representation, which he argues significantly impacted his defense.

The New York Times initially broke the story following a direct call from Kohberger to a journalist, during which he made his first public statement outside of court, asserting an “absolute claim of innocence.” He contacted the media in what seems to be an attempt to control the narrative around his case.

On July 23, 2025, Kohberger appeared at the Ada County Courthouse in Boise, Idaho, for his sentencing. During the proceedings, the prosecution’s case was heavily reliant on evidence such as cellphone tracking data and digital footprints. (Photo by Kyle Green-Pool/Getty Images)

Expressing his discontent with the legal process, Kohberger declared to the publication, “My actual innocence is my truth, and the plea, hinged on by false promises and blatant disinformation, MUST be withdrawn.”

Kohberger is serving four consecutive life sentences with no possibility of parole plus another 10 years for the Nov. 13, 2022 murders of Xana Kernodle, Ethan Chapin, Madison Mogen and Kaylee Goncalves after pleading guilty in July 2025.

As part of the plea deal, he waived his right to an appeal.

Dinner Bell Discovery: Unveiling the Human-Driven Trigger Behind Bull Shark Attacks

0

A tragic encounter with a bull shark left one survivor with a newfound purpose. An Australian survivor of a severe shark attack, who faced the loss of a hand and leg in the assault, has identified the key triggering element that compels these apex predators to bite humans, likening it to a ‘dinner bell.’

Paul De Gelder, an ex-Australian military member, was grievously injured in 2009 during a counterterrorism exercise that took place in Sydney Harbor. The life-altering event, however, steered De Gelder toward becoming an advocate for shark conservation.

Now renowned as a shark conservationist, De Gelder regularly features in Discovery’s annual ‘Shark Week.’ In his latest contribution, the show ‘Bull Shark Dinner Bell,’ set to air Monday at 8 p.m. ET, De Gelder unpacks three crucial elements that can provoke bull shark attacks across the globe.

On the Florida coast, expert Rosie Moore conducted experiments revealing that certain conditions can entice bull sharks near humans. Rainstorms combined with vibrations from activities like diving or fishing in waters rich with fatty fish can lure these fearsome predators, prompting them to strike.

Despite there being around 500 shark species that typically avoid human contact, bull sharks are an exception. Known as ‘ambush predators,’ they thrive in temperate waters, making them more likely to come into close proximity with humans, especially under enticing conditions.

They are the number one suspect in most of the world’s shark attacks, and 10 biting incidents have already been blamed on them in 2026, according to the Global Shark Attack File, a public database documenting cases as far back as the 1940s.

De Gelder said during a new Shark Week special: ‘If you go through the Global Shark Attack Files since 2025, bull sharks are responsible for twice as many attacks as tiger sharks, and even 25 percent more than great whites.’

‘If they chose to, they could kill you, but they more often than not don’t.’

De Gelder traveled to Florida, the bull shark capital of the US, to team with Moore to figure out why bull shark attacks have been on the rise and what humans are doing to set off the ‘dinner bell.’

Moore said on the Discovery Channel: ‘With bull sharks, there’s usually a number of factors that lead up to that bite.’

They traveled to Jupiter Ledge, a bull shark hotspot near Palm Beach, where the predators immediately gathered around their boat.

One constant factor tied to bull shark attacks has been rain, with researchers believing that storms potentially agitate the creatures by making countless vibrations on the surface of the ocean.

Moore dove into the Atlantic near a pack of five to six bull sharks, while De Gelder activated a water pump which simulated rainfall. It instantly attracted more sharks to the area, which were moving faster as the rain came down.

‘I think the bull sharks might associate the raindrops on the surface with other fish. They detect the tiniest vibrations. They can literally see with their eyes closed,’ Moore explained.

She added these extraordinary sensors allow sharks to hunt even in the darkest waters.

‘The rain has definitely triggered a more aggressive response. They’re faster, bolder, more willing to bite,’ Moore said. ‘Rain is definitely a factor we need to ring this dinner bell.’

Since the sharks clearly showed a desire to swarm near the ocean surface and attack live fish during rainstorms, the team also tested different types of bait, including lean fish meat like grouper and oily and fatty fish like bonito.

De Gelder and Moore brought a crate of each meat type down into the open water of the Atlantic, and watched as a group of bull sharks bumped and headbutted the boxes – a behavior they engage in before attacking potential prey.

Oddly, when the team dropped in a third crate full of pork to simulate human flesh and blood, the bull sharks ignored the meat.

Instead, the predators chose to attack the crate full of oily and fatty fish when hunting, which Moore and De Gelder said was a critical clue as to what sets off the dinner bell for the deadly sharks.

Moore explained: ‘By knowing what seasonal fish migration patterns overlap with the bull shark populations, that can help us advise people on when they should stay out of the water because the sharks might be hunting.’

The researchers then looked at how human behavior could trigger a bull shark attack, since these creatures, like other shark species, are highly sensitive to vibrations.

One activity that has been frequently tied to bull shark attacks is spearfishing.

While De Gelder caught a fish with a speargun from the boat, Moore watched in scuba gear as a bull shark charged in to attack the struggling fish. Nearly a dozen more bull sharks moved into the area to bump Moore and her cameraman.

‘Bull sharks are interesting because it’s almost like they get a sense of FOMO. It triggers an uptick in aggression from the other sharks around it because if you’re a shark in the ocean, there’s not necessarily a grocery store for you to go to; you have to compete for that available prey,’ Moore said.

In one final experiment, De Gelder tested the reactions of the sharks by jumping into the ocean, triggering a massive splash and vibration.

‘As soon as I hit the water they came to investigate,’ De Gelder said.

The sharks were seen putting both pectoral fins down, a sign they were extremely agitated, with one shark actually biting De Gelder’s scuba fin.

When the team put all of these factors together – rainfall, the presence of oily and fatty fish meat and a human diving directly into an area with sharks – the bulls immediately moved to attack De Gelder.

‘As soon as I hit the surface with the rain, the bait in the water, it was like the perfect storm,’ he said.

Not only were the bull sharks agitated, but it also attracted more sharks to the area and caused the predators to attack one another.

‘I have never seen bull sharks behave like this,’ Moore declared. ‘You can literally see how if all these elements lined up and you had somebody in the water that was not prepared, they would not stand a chance. The dinner bell has rung.’

Moore noted that there were ways to peacefully coexist with sharks, but certain conditions, including rainfall, fatty fish in the area and too much human activity disrupting the water, create a deadly recipe for a shark attack.

‘Truly assess the conditions before you enter the water, it could save your life,’ De Gelder said.

3 Morning Exercises to Alleviate Stiffness More Effectively Than a Hot Shower for Those Over 60

0

Feeling stiff when you wake up? Swap your usual hot shower for this five-move routine—it might just be the refreshing alternative you’ve been looking for.

>

There’s nothing quite like a steaming shower to shake off morning stiffness. It’s popular for a good reason: the warmth elevates your skin’s temperature, prompting blood vessels just under the skin to expand. This boost in circulation can decrease stiffness, making your muscles and joints feel noticeably more at ease.

While your heart rate might tick up slightly as your body adjusts to the heat, it’s crucial to note a hot shower primarily provides an external warming effect. In contrast, physical activity warms you from the inside out.

When you start moving, your muscles contract and consume energy, creating heat in the process. As more muscles kick into action, your internal temperature rises. This leads to a faster heartbeat, improved circulation, and enhanced delivery of oxygen and nutrients throughout your system—a compelling reason to incorporate morning movement into your routine.

During the night, your body temperature naturally drops, your heart rate slows, and circulation diminishes as you lie still for several hours. This is why many people feel rigid and lethargic when they first wake up, a sensation that often intensifies with age. Morning movement isn’t about grueling workouts; it’s about gently reviving your body’s natural rhythm.

You don’t need to exhaust yourself, lift heavy weights, or spend hours exercising. The goal is simply to transition your body from rest into activity. These exercises are designed to progressively involve more muscle, increase circulation, gently elevate your heart rate, and generate heat from within.

Exercise gives you benefits a hot shower can’t. As you move your joints, your nervous system receives information about your body’s position, balance, coordination, and movement. This helps wake up the communication between the brain and the muscles, something I call proprioception.

Movement also helps circulate synovial fluid within the joints. That fluid acts somewhat like a lubricant, and as the joints move, it gets distributed across the joint surfaces, helping support smoother and more comfortable movement.

Exercise also activates the muscles responsible for posture and stability. After several hours in bed, those muscles need to start supporting your body against gravity again. Gradually increasing movement gives your nervous system time to organize posture, balance, and coordination before you take on the physical demands of your day.

A hot shower can make your body feel warmer, but movement actually prepares your body to function: it increases internal heat production and circulation, gradually elevates your heart rate, activates your muscles, and reconnects your nervous system with your body. Instead of relying only on external heat to loosen up in the morning, use movement to create heat from within.

These exercises aren’t meant to be an intense workout. Think of them as a transition from sleeping to moving, from stiffness to mobility, and from rest to readiness. A hot shower may make you feel warmer, but purposeful movement helps prepare your body for the entire day. Here’s my morning routine that beats a hot shower for getting the blood flowing and easing that stiffness.

5 Chair Exercises Physical Therapists Swear By to Restore Balance After 60

Fascial Shaking

We start with shaking, which moves blood and lymph fluid and gets information flowing through the fascia. It’s a simple way to loosen up and open a limb before asking it to do anything more demanding.

How to Do It:

  • Gently start shaking one foot, then let that shake move up into the knee, the hip, and the pelvis until your whole leg is shaking.
  • Keep it comfortable, not vigorous. Shake one leg for 20 to 30 seconds, then switch sides and repeat the same pattern from the foot up.
  • Move to your hands next. Start shaking one hand, then let it move into the forearm, bicep, and shoulder until the whole arm is relaxed and almost flopping.
  • Shake each arm for 30 to 60 seconds, then switch sides.
  • Bring both arms back in, add your legs, and let your head move freely so your whole body is shaking and relaxing at once.

Avoid These Mistakes:

  • Don’t tense up or control the movement. Let it move freely instead of thinking about tension.
  • Don’t rush past one limb before the shake has worked all the way up it. Let it build gradually from the foot or hand upward.

Sets and Reps: 20 to 30 seconds per leg, 30 to 60 seconds per arm, then a final round shaking your whole body together. The full sequence takes about three minutes.

Form Tip: You’re not just moving your limbs, you’re waking up your proprioception, the connection between your fascia and your brain.

Marching in Place

This is to help elevate your heart rate and build postural awareness before the rest of the routine.

How to Do It:

  • Stand tall and march in place, thinking about keeping a nice tall spine.
  • Add a gentle tuck of your chin and a gentle tuck of your pelvis as you march.
  • March for one to three minutes to gradually get your heart rate up and pumping.
  • As you get comfortable, march higher, march faster, or add an isometric hold every so often for more of a challenge.

Avoid These Mistakes:

  • Don’t let your posture collapse while marching. Keep that tall spine, chin tuck, and pelvic tuck through the whole set.

Sets and Reps: One to three minutes.

Form Tip: Increase the challenge gradually, higher knees, a faster pace, or an occasional isometric hold, rather than jumping straight into intensity.

If You Can Hold a Bridge This Long After 55, Your Core Strength Is Stronger Than 90% of Peers

Spinal Rolling and Unrolling

This roll and unroll is for flexibility and movement through the spine.

How to Do It:

  • Gently tuck your chin, then roll down through your neck, upper back, mid back, and low back, all the way down through the hamstrings to the calves and the soles of your feet.
  • Reverse the movement, slowly straightening back up through the low back, mid back, upper back, and finally the head and neck.
  • Repeat slow and smooth, working with whatever range of motion you have.
  • Once that feels comfortable, pick up the pace.

Avoid These Mistakes:

  • Don’t rush through the roll without articulating each part of your spine. Even as you move quicker, keep each piece moving segmentally.

Sets and Reps: Two to three minutes.

Form Tip: Work within whatever range of motion you currently have. There’s no need to force a deeper roll than your body allows.

Windmill Stretch

This windmill stretches the entire body, including the hamstrings and inner thighs, and builds more circulation.

How to Do It:

  • Take a wide stance with your legs straight and your arms raised up.
  • Come down and touch your toes. If you can’t reach that far, coming down to one knee works just as well.
  • As you get more comfortable, start to pick up the pace.

Avoid These Mistakes:

  • Don’t force your reach past what your body allows. Coming down to a knee instead of your toes is a fine adjustment.
  • Don’t turn this into a hard push. The goal is warming up the tissue and moving fluid, not exercising hard.

Sets and Reps: One to three minutes.

Muscles Trained: Hamstrings, inner thighs.

Raging Dove Fire Forces Widespread Evacuations, Leaving Destruction in Its Wake

0

A fast-moving wildfire near a crucial entrance to Yosemite is causing alarm, leading to immediate evacuation orders.

Racing through the Sierra Nevada foothills on Sunday afternoon, the fire has engulfed several hundred acres close to the city of Sonora in Tuolumne County.

The rapidly spreading blaze is prompting evacuations and road closures as firefighters strive to gain control.

Dubbed the Dove Fire, the flames were first reported just before 3 p.m. southwest of Sonora’s downtown, a favored stop for those heading to Yosemite National Park. By 7:30 p.m., the fire had swelled to 223 acres, as reported by Cal Fire.

As of late Sunday night, the fire was just 1% contained, but its rate of spread had slowed from dangerous to moderate, meaning that it was holding within lines built to slow it down.

The Cal Fire Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit said “resources are making good progress” in a 6 p.m. update.

Kylian Mbappe Reflects on Lingering Heartache Post-World Cup

0

Experiencing a sense of heartbreak, Kylian Mbappe has confessed that France’s World Cup exit will linger painfully for some time.

In an extended message to supporters, he expressed that French fans were likely deserving of a more fitting conclusion than the 2-0 semi-final loss to Spain and the subsequent 6-4 defeat by England in the battle for third place.

At 27, Mbappe claimed the Golden Boot with an impressive tally of 10 goals, further solidifying his status as the leading scorer in World Cup history, now boasting a total of 22 goals.

Leading the national team under Didier Deschamps, who recently concluded his 14-year managerial tenure, the Real Madrid forward showcased his leadership on the field throughout this final tournament.

Currently relaxing on holiday, Mbappe will soon be preparing to collaborate with new manager Jose Mourinho, as Real Madrid aims to reclaim the LaLiga championship—a title they have not secured since 2024.

Penning the 520-word message, Mbappe insisted that gratitude and pride were major emotions for him. He wrote: ‘Thank you.

Kylian Mbappe says he will be hurting for a while after France’s World Cup collapse

France finished fourth in Didier Deschamps' final tournament in charge - but Mbappe was the World Cup's top scorer

France finished fourth in Didier Deschamps’ final tournament in charge – but Mbappe was the World Cup’s top scorer

A month of emotion. Of pushing beyond our limits. Of pride in wearing the colors of France. And above all, of passion: the same passion that drives us on the pitch and that drives you, whether you were watching from home or cheering in the stands. That’s what we experienced together. An incredible story.

‘We’re not bringing a collective trophy home. It hurts, and it will hurt for a while. I won’t pretend otherwise. I’m proud to have won the Golden Boot, but it would have meant far more with the World Cup beside it. Maybe we owed you a better ending. But we don’t always get to choose how the story ends. We do get to choose what we put into it, and we gave it everything. That much we can be proud of.

‘Thank you to my teammates. Without their work, their runs, their passes, without the spirit that carried us from the first match to the last, I could never have scored so many goals. This award belongs to the team as much as it belongs to me. As a kid, I dreamed of playing in a World Cup. Just one. I’ve now played in three, won one, and this year I’ve had the immense honor of captaining my country. I will never forget it.

‘So many of you stayed up late, some of you deep into the night, to watch us play an ocean away. You gathered at home, in bars, with family and friends, in France and far beyond it. Others were there with us in the stadiums, draped in the French flag. Children with stars in their eyes. Men and women of every background and every generation, united by the simple joy of sharing the moment.

‘You never stopped believing in us. Not in the hardest moments. Not even when we deserved it least. This story was written by millions of hands, not just by the eleven on the field, all of them carried by the same passion.

‘And I’ve already said to Didier what I needed to say. He knows. Thank you to him, to his entire staff, to the physios, the chefs, the fitness coaches, the drivers, and to everyone working behind the scenes whom no one ever sees and without whom none of this would have been possible. And thank you to everyone who welcomed us and supported us across the United States.

‘At its heart, football is still a game. A game we take very seriously, one we spend a lifetime trying to master, but a game all the same, and it still comes down to what it came down to when we first started playing: a ball, a goal, and the desire to score. That’s why it brings us together the way it does.

‘This World Cup has come to an end, but the story goes on. There will be other matches, other nights in summer and in winter when we’ll all come together again over this same game, with the same undiminished excitement. Our journey together is far from over.

‘Thank you for everything. Kylian Mbappe.’

As part of the post, he shared a photo of himself as a child in front of posters of Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldinho, and Thierry Henry.

Mbappe has, at least, been able to enjoy his time off after the World Cup.

Just hours after France’s loss to England, Mbappe was out on the town in Miami at the LIV Nightclub inside the city’s famous Fontainebleau hotel.

He was joined by his girlfriend, Spanish actress Ester Exposito, and a group of friends at a private table.

The pair had enjoyed a dinner at Papi Steak shortly before, and while at the club they enjoyed Cloonee’s set from a private table, opting to stay out of the limelight.

Photos of the couple surfaced after Mbappe quickly deleted an Instagram story showing Exposito in a hotel room as she wore his full kit.

Exposito posed wearing the jersey and shorts of the French goalscorer – as well as the captain’s armband.

The photo was very quickly deleted, but not before it had made its way to his story and circulated around the internet.

They have also been seen aboard a boat together.

They were also seen enjoying a meal after Exposito’s native Spain won their second World Cup title by defeating Argentina 1-0.

At the time, there was no public confirmation that the two were dating. However, rumors had persisted since the spring when Exposito attended one of Mbappe’s matches at Real Madrid in March.

The two were later spotted on a bowling date in Paris in April and on a yacht outing in Italy in May.

Exposito previously admitted to having mixed emotions when Spain and France met in the semifinals, telling a reporter: ‘That’s a difficult choice for me’.
