West Ham Transfer Update: Key Targets Revealed and Strategic Exit Plans Underway

0

West Ham United’s return to the Championship has brought a significant uplift, as star player and captain Jarrod Bowen has committed his future to the club, solidifying his role as both leader and key scorer.

Bowen’s decision comes as a welcome relief following the departure of Mateus Fernandes, who joined Tottenham in a high-profile £85 million move, and with winger Crysencio Summerville poised to sign with Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia.

Looking ahead to their first campaign in the Championship after 15 years in the top flight, West Ham faces both on and off-field challenges. The coming six weeks are critical as the club aims to make an immediate return to the Premier League.

Jarrod Bowen handed West Ham a much-needed boost by signing a new contract

Jarrod Bowen extended his commitment to West Ham, providing a timely morale boost for the team.

Mateus Fernandes was the first of the big names to leave West Ham this summer, joining Tottenham for £85m

The summer saw Mateus Fernandes make a significant move from West Ham to Tottenham, with a transfer fee of £85 million.

What do West Ham need?

For a few seasons now, there’s been talk of a much-needed West Ham overhaul. Too many players, signed by too many different people, for too many different managers and, crucially, for too much money, had left an ageing, unbalanced squad not fit for the Premier League.

That overhaul never really came but now relegation to the Championship, and the financial constraints that come with it, have forced their hand, while a change in ownership could well see it through.

Top stars, though not all of them, have gone and will continue to leave so they need to strengthen all over. So far, the only addition has been making Under 21s loanee Keiber Lamadrid’s move permanent from Venezuelan side Deportivo la Guaira.

West Ham could do with a new striker. Taty Castellanos did pretty well after arriving for £25m in January but his fellow winter window signing Pablo offered little. For all the dirty work off the ball and his £21.8m fee, he’s yet to score a single goal.

Callum Wilson had flirted with extending his contract for another season after a solid debut campaign with several crucial goals that nearly kept the club up, but the Englishman has now joined Brentford on a one-year deal.

Nicklas Fullkrug – remember him? – is back from his loan at AC Milan but he is on the list of players the club want to sell if anyone will have him.

The £85m departure of all-round midfielder Fernandes leaves a massive hole for Nuno Espirito Santo to fill.

Even though Konstantinos Mavropanos, voted Hammer of the Year, has been offered an updated contract similar to the one signed by Bowen, West Ham are still desperate for defensive additions, with further departures expected in that area.

What’s the latest on Summerville?

The Hammers have agreed to sell Summerville to Al Hilal for around £55m. It’s quite the throwback to the good old days of transfer deals, where a fee is agreed first between the buying and selling club.

Nowadays, clubs usually agree terms with the prospective player (even though tapping up in an official capacity is still banned) with the fee the last piece of the jigsaw to be thrashed out.

This was very much the other way around and, for a while, looked like it could prove a sticking point. Summerville was understood to prefer a move to a European side, despite the heftier wages the Saudis can offer.

Summerville was on Manchester United’s radar and the Red Devils held exploratory talks with West Ham. Roma were also seriously interested and while their first offer of £39m was much lower than Al Hilal’s, they have spent the last few days trying to thrash out a more lucrative proposal.

However, it is understood Summerville – who scored five goals in 31 Premier League games last season – has now agreed to the Saudi move, meaning the Hammers will bank the best part of £140m for the departure of just two players.

Which other players could leave?

Jean-Clair Todibo is keen to depart, and Nuno wants him gone too. The centre back refused to play in West Ham’s final-day relegation decider against Leeds after being substituted just 26 minutes into the penultimate game of the season against Newcastle.

A few clubs are interested. Marseille have been keeping tabs as have Juventus but neither have yet tabled bids. They would prefer loans, West Ham wouldn’t but might have no choice.

AC Milan had the option to buy Fullkrug this summer after his loan expired but, unsurprisingly, opted against it. Fiorentina have shown loose interest but nothing more. West Ham have accepted that they are unlikely to get back the £27m they paid Borussia Dortmund for him two summers ago.

Midfielder Edson Alvarez and goalkeeper Alphonse Areola are also on the ‘for sale’ list, the latter especially now that Mads Hermansen has nailed down his place as Nuno’s No 1 despite the shaky start to his Hammers career.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is also a player West Ham are willing to sell for the right price. They want £25m for him and there’s mild interest from Lazio, while he is on Arsenal’s long-list of targets.

There have been rumours that David Moyes is keen to bring him to Everton but sources told Daily Mail Sport that interest is wide of the mark.

What convinced Bowen to stay?

There was widespread feeling before the summer that relegation would spell the end for the club captain’s time at West Ham.

England boss Thomas Tuchel hinted that being embroiled in a relegation scrap for a poor team had hindered Bowen’s chances of selection for his World Cup squad ahead of others, despite scoring and assisting more goals than all the other England wingers in the Premier League last season.

‘Does Jarrod suffer a bit from the situation at his club? It is difficult for him,’ said Tuchel. ‘Does Noni (Madueke) and Bukayo (Saka) profit from the situation of their club (Arsenal)?’

Even father-in-law Danny Dyer said he’d begrudgingly accept Bowen leaving for Real Madrid or Manchester City. No one has to worry about that anymore. Bowen has agreed to stay to try to get West Ham back into the Premier League.

The club have inserted a release clause into Bowen’s deal, which kicks in if West Ham fail to secure an instant return to the top flight. He will also receive a fair whack as a bonus if they do.

Bowen flew to Prague for talks with Daniel Kretinsky, the impending majority shareholder following the departure of David Sullivan, and his lieutenant Jiri Svarc.

The Hammers skipper was impressed by the ambition and clarity of the man soon to be at the helm. Kretinsky knew that the biggest marker he could put down for how the club will be run under his watch was to convince Bowen to stay, not only to give West Ham the best shot at promotion but also to send a message to the rest of the club, squad and prospective signings that they mean business.

How is life after Sullivan impacting transfers?

At the start of June, Sullivan resigned from his position as co-chair after 16 years at the club in the wake of ‘serious historic allegations’ about his conduct, ones he describes as ‘entirely false’.

For all the heads of recruitment or technical directors that have come and gone over the years, it was always Sullivan who had final say on transfers. Insiders believe the club is already working more efficiently, in the knowledge that too many mistakes have been made in the past. Everyone, at last, is pulling in the same direction.

Interim CEO Karim Virani is running the ship and new head of recruitment Nils Koppen, who joined from Copenhagen at the start of July, is getting his feet under the table with his data-led approach to identifying targets.

The feeling is that everything is more aligned. Nuno is unlikely now to come to work to find out, despite all the planning, that the owner has suddenly spent £30m on an injury-prone striker just because he wants to, although his super agent Jorge Mendes is still believed to be trying to exert his influence.

There’s less than a month to go until the Championship opener against promotion rivals Burnley, so already some supporters are starting to get twitchy. The sense from within the club, however, is that they are finally implementing a process they can trust, one in which they don’t have to panic buy.

How much money do they have to spend?

With almost £140m in the bank from just two sales, one might think West Ham are all set to splash the cash. It’s not quite that straightforward just yet.

West Ham lost £104.2m in their most recent accounts and the club need to make sure they comply with new Squad Cost Rules (SCR) for this season that limit spending on transfers, wages and agent fees to 85 per cent of revenue. SCR, at least, will ignore the huge losses they made.

Club sources suggested how much of their transfer incomings can be splashed on future signings will become clearer once the ownership issues, the passing of shares and discussions over outstanding debts, have been resolved. The priority first is making sure the club is viable and in line with SCR.

Kretinsky is expected to inject a substantial amount once he takes de facto control, with SCR allowing owner injections of up to £33m over three years.

That’s not to say that West Ham aren’t pressing ahead with targets, even if sources suggested that incoming deals may happen later in the window. As such, Koppen has also informed the club’s youngsters that it will be a week or two until they find out whether they will be a part of the first team or shipped out on loan.

Who are they after?

Axel Disasi, who made a superb impact on loan from Chelsea last season, is their key target but does not want to commit to Championship football at this stage of the window and would prefer to find himself a new club in the Premier League or overseas. Chelsea are believed to want £25m for the 28-year-old Frenchman.

Cardiff’s Dylan Lawlor and Leicester’s Ben Nelson are also options on their defender shortlist, as well as Southampton centre back Taylor Harwood-Bellis.

The departure of Fernandes has left them keen to bolster the midfield and West Ham are understood to have enquired about Portugal Under-21 international Gustavo Sa at Famalicao and Denil Castillo at Midtjylland, who was an unused substitute in all of Ecuador’s games at the World Cup.

The Hammers are also keen on Arne Engels at Celtic, whom Nottingham Forest tried to sign for £25m in January. The Belgian is said to want to test himself at a higher level and there’s a feeling among sources in Scotland that the summer is the ideal time to cash in on one of their main assets.

Insiders say any deal could hinge on whether Celtic get a deal over the line for Paderborn midfielder Mika Baur.

George Kittle Shares Memorable Moments from Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Wedding

“The entire event was simply phenomenal,” George, 32, shared with Chris Simms during the show. “I had an absolute blast.”

George was not alone in celebrating the joyous occasion; he was accompanied by his wife, Claire, as well as his parents, Bruce and Jan. Claire’s mother, Shelly, was also on the guest list, thanks to the close bonds Swift and Kelce have forged with the family during their interactions at Tight End University.

In the wake of the glamorous wedding, George Kittle and his wife Claire took to Instagram to offer their heartfelt congratulations to the newlyweds. The couple shared a family photo captioned, “It was a family affair. Congratulations on finding your exclamation point!” Both George and Claire, celebrating their shared 32nd year, posted this message on Sunday, July 5, as they wished the best to Travis and Taylor.

“Travis likes Bruce a lot, but then the moms got invited because of Tight End U last year, where they hung out with Taylor for a long time, and she just really liked them,” George explained. “So that was kind of fun to have like a family outing at Madison Square Garden.”

Swift and Kelce tied the knot at the famed New York City venue on July 3, with a star-studded guest list in attendance.

The Kittles’ wedding tribute was a reference to Swift’s own phrasing about her now-husband during her debut appearance on Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast last year.

“Travis, he’s just a vibe booster in everyone’s life that he’s in,” Swift said on an August 2025 episode of the podcast as she gushed over Kelce. “He’s, like, a human exclamation point. He’s like when you take a picture on your phone and you push the ‘enhance color’ button, that’s what you do to every text.”

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz Revamps Leadership to Combat Far-Right Surge

BERLIN – In a bold political maneuver, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz revamped key positions within his administration on Friday, aiming to rejuvenate his faltering government’s reputation before pivotal regional elections. These elections pose a significant challenge, with a strong possibility of the far-right party clinching a state governor seat for the first time.

Merz assumed the chancellorship just over a year ago, promising sweeping reforms and a revitalization of Germany’s sluggish economy, the largest in Europe. However, progress has been slower than anticipated, leaving the populace skeptical of his coalition. His union, a combination of the center-right Union bloc and the center-left Social Democrats—historically fierce competitors—has struggled to convince citizens of its ability to deliver tangible improvements.

Consequently, Merz’s popularity has nosedived, hitting unprecedented lows. Meanwhile, the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party has adeptly leveraged the growing wave of dissatisfaction and discontent across the nation.

Seizing this moment to reconfigure his team, Merz initiated these changes following the resignation of a key ally from his party’s parliamentary leadership, due to personal issues that compromised his integrity. In a strategic move, Merz has selected his chief of staff, Thorsten Frei, to fill the vacated position.

In related appointments, Health Minister Nina Warken is set to assume Frei’s former duties at the chancellery, a pivotal role vital for government coherence and efficiency. Additionally, Carsten Linnemann, who serves as the general secretary of Merz’s party, will step into the role of health minister, completing the reshuffle aimed at reinvigorating the government’s image and effectiveness.

Merz said that there will be further changes, but didn’t offer details.

Florida Couple Used ‘Prank’ Excuse in Missing Baby’s Death; Claimed Infant Wasn’t Theirs, Says Sheriff

Authorities in North Carolina have apprehended a Florida couple who had been fleeing with allegations related to the death of their infant. The couple, identified by state officials, had managed to evade capture until now.

Leon Alejandro, Jr., aged 21, and Samantha Angeline Feliz, aged 20, are facing serious charges that include aggravated manslaughter of a child and tampering with physical evidence. In addition, they are accused of failing to report the death to the medical examiner, providing false information about a missing child, and fabricating reports to law enforcement during an active investigation, as detailed by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Both individuals are currently detained in North Carolina under warrants issued in Broward County, Florida. The couple originates from Hollywood, Florida, a bustling city located about 20 miles to the north of Miami.

The sheriff’s office noted that this intricate investigation has been ongoing since early 2025. Details about the case remain somewhat ambiguous, with law enforcement describing the timeline of events as complex and difficult to ascertain clearly, as highlighted in a press release.

Authorities believe Feliz gave birth to the child sometime between Dec. 6, 2024 and Jan. 5, 2025. Law enforcement alleges the “birth was concealed” and the baby was born “somewhere other than a hospital.”

At some point, the baby went missing, the sheriff’s office said.

“During the child’s first month of life, other family members saw the couple with the baby,” the press release reads. “After that, the baby was never seen again, and both parents denied that the child was theirs, claiming it was a prank.”

As the investigation progressed, authorities charged both defendants, on the assumption the child had been born and subsequently died, “[d]espite the lack of an official birth certificate and medical records,” the sheriff’s office said.

After the warrants were issued based on violations of Florida law, the U.S. Marshals Service enlisted officials in North Carolina to help with the investigation, according to the press release.

The couple fled to Richmond County and were living on a property belonging to one of Alejandro’s relatives — on Ledbetter Road in Rockingham — when they were arrested, the sheriff’s office said.

Authorities did not immediately disclose how they think the baby died or its exact age at the time of death.

The defendants are currently being detained in the Richmond County Jail on fugitive of justice warrants with no bond as they await extradition to the Sunshine State.

“This is a prime example of agencies nationwide collaborating to uphold justice,” Sheriff Mark B. Gulledge said in a statement.

Rediscover the Timeless Charm of 1968’s Comedy Classic: Why It Still Resonates as No. 1 Today

0

Comedy, more than any other film genre, often struggles to stand the test of time. Popular comedies can quickly feel outdated as cultural sensibilities evolve from one decade to the next. Jokes that once landed perfectly can feel stale just a few years later. However, 1968’s “The Odd Couple” defies these odds, maintaining its appeal through the years thanks to its timeless premise that continues to resonate with audiences today.

Adapted from Neil Simon’s play, “The Odd Couple” tells the story of Felix Unger, portrayed by Jack Lemmon, who, after separating from his wife, moves in with his poker buddy Oscar, played by Walter Matthau. The comedic conflict arises from Felix’s obsession with cleanliness clashing with Oscar’s laid-back, messy lifestyle. The film shines with hilarious slapstick moments, heartfelt interactions, and electric chemistry between Lemmon and Matthau, capturing a universal roommate experience many can relate to—friends turned frenemies.

In 1968, a year bursting with cinematic legends like “2001: A Space Odyssey” and “Rosemary’s Baby,” “The Odd Couple” also made its mark. On June 26th of that year, it climbed to the top of the box office charts, where it impressively stayed for seven weeks. Earning a substantial $44 million against its modest $1.2 million budget, the film demonstrated that slapstick humor and dynamic performances could draw audiences without the need for elaborate special effects.

The Odd Couple laid the template for many comedies to follow

Achieving the number one spot at the box office is a rarity for comedies today, yet in 1968, viewers flocked to see what would happen when a tidy individual lived with a messy one. The film’s phenomenal success was a boon for Paramount Pictures, marking their most lucrative fiscal quarter since October 1966. Its influence remains palpable decades later, a testament to its enduring legacy.

Many legendary comedies have followed in “The Odd Couple’s” footsteps, utilizing the comedic formula of pairing conflicting personalities. Movies like “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” and “The Nice Guys” prove the enduring appeal of such setups. Given its iconic status, it’s no surprise “The Odd Couple” has spawned several adaptations, beginning with an ABC sitcom in 1970. This classic was revived in the 2010s, featuring Matthew Perry, but despite its efforts, CBS ended the show after three seasons. The legacy of “The Odd Couple” serves as a reminder of the comedic gold that contrasting personalities can deliver.

Another remake of “The Odd Couple” was planned more recently, with Dick Van Dyke and Ed Asner starring as the main duo. However, Asner’s death in 2021 squashed the project. Basically, “The Odd Couple” wasn’t just a successful film back in the ’60s. It laid a template for many other movies and TV shows to follow. Sometimes the simplest ideas end up being the most lasting.

Silo Season 3 Episode 4 Ending: Tim Robbins Discusses Bernard’s Fate and Shocking Twist

0

Each episode of Apple TV’s hit series, Silo, leads viewers on a captivating and mind-bending journey. However, the closing moments of Season 3, Episode 4 serve up perhaps the most startling twist of the series so far.

Silo Season 3, Episode 4 spoilers ahead.

In Season 3, Episode 4 of Silo, titled “Whatever You Do, Don’t Go Home,” we follow Congressman Daniel Keene (played by Ashley Zuckerman) and journalist Helen Drew (portrayed by Jessica Henwick) as they delve into mysteries during flashbacks to the Before Times. Meanwhile, in the present-day setting of Silo 18, Juliette (Rebecca Ferguson) eludes Camille (Alexandria Riley) and makes a shocking discovery that promises to upend everything.

If the jaw-dropping twist at the end of Silo Season 3, Episode 4 left you stunned—particularly if you’re unfamiliar with the books—you’ve landed in the right spot. So, what exactly transpired? Who does Juliette encounter in those final moments? Decider’s recap, with insights from Silo star Tim Robbins, dissects these heart-pounding scenes.

Silo Season 3, Episode 4 Ending Explained: Who Does Juliette Find At The End Of Silo Season 3, Episode 4?

As Juliette strives to outwit Camille and reclaim her lost memories, she enlists Shirley (Remmie Milner) to guide her to the digger void—a massive, gaping space below the mechanical levels of the silo where she and George (Ferdinand Kingsley) used to spend their time. Despite Walker’s (Harriet Walter) assurances that she sealed it off, Shirley agrees to take Juliette there. True to form, Juliette finds a way into the void. As they prepare to enter, a noise echoes through the tunnels, prompting Shirley to send Juliette ahead while she investigates.

With minutes to spare, Juliette explores the familiar location, but as she’s looking around the makeshift room George set up, she hears a faint cough behind a hanging sheet. When she says, “Hello?” no one responds. So she creeps towards the sheet, pulls it to the side, and reveals the one, the only, Bernard Holland!!!!! Robbins’ character utters just two words: “Hello, Juliette.” Then Silo fades to black as the show’s suspenseful score swells, leaving fans to wonder, “What the heck just happened?! And is that really Bernard?!”

Is Bernard Alive In Silo Season 3?!

First things first: YES! Bernard is still kicking! If you struggled to recognize the man in Episode 4’s final seconds, it’s because Bernard looks and sounds a lot different than he has the past two seasons. His hair is longer and unkempt, he’s not wearing his signature glasses, he’s in casual clothes, his voice is raspy, and he has burns all over his face from when he and Juliette were trapped in the fiery airlock in Season 2’s finale.

An elderly man with white hair and beard, with red marks on his face, lying down in a dimly lit room.

In Season 3’s premiere, Robert Sims (Common) told Juliette that Bernard didn’t survive the blaze, saying, “Flames melted holes in his suit, and the poison got in. We couldn’t take a chance with a farm burial… it took six porters six hours to get him down to the incinerator…I watched him burn.” Considering what a dangerous situation Juliette and Bernard found themselves in towards the end of Season 2’s finale, Bernard’s death was believable. But the story changed when Sims talked to his wife Camille and confirmed that he lied to Juliette about what really happened. Silo then flashed back to the aftermath of the tragedy and revealed that Bernard survived the blaze, only for Sims to smother him. Or at least that’s what Silo wanted us to think…

While we’ll have to wait until Season 3, Episode 5 to learn what really happened between Bernard and Sims, we can hear Robbins’ reactions to the big Bernard twist right now!

“I was told early on by Graham [Yost, creator] when I signed on to Season 1 that there was this surprise that happens in Season 3, and that I would have the opportunity to play a completely different Bernard, who has not only changed physically with the injuries he sustained from the end of Season 2, but he’s changed internally. His whole moral compass has shifted,” Robbins told DECIDER over Zoom.

In teasing what fans can expect from Bernard as Season 3 progresses, Robbins said, “He’s had revelations that make him realize that he’s been living a lie. What do you do? What happens when your whole worldview is shattered? What happens when you are in a position of power and doing questionably moral things for the greater good, and you realize, ‘Oh, that was a lie’? What happens to your soul when you realize you have done terrible things by being manipulated and the truth being manipulated? There’s a certain anger that goes along with that. I think he has an opportunity in this season to create redemption.”

“I was told early on by Graham when I signed on to Season 1 that there was this surprise that happens in Season 3, and that I would have the opportunity to play a completely different Bernard, who has not only changed physically with the injuries he sustained… but he’s changed internally. His whole moral compass has shifted.”

Tim Robbins, Silo

As Robbins reflected on how fortunate he was to tap into a different side of this character he’s spent two seasons embodying, he shared why Bernard’s evolution was so powerful to him personally. “The idea that there’s a way to grow as a human being, even if you’ve done terrible things, I know this very well from the work I’ve done in prisons,” he shared. “Everyone is capable of redemption. Even if you’ve done terrible things, it’s really a matter of what you do from this point forward that matters.”

For anyone who wants to explore these ideas further, the Silo star suggested his 2019 documentary, 45 Seconds of Laughter, which he hopes will be available on Criterion this fall. “It’s about this idea that there is always hope that you can make amends for things you’ve done. You’re not going to get there, though, by being stubborn or not accepting the idea that everyone is fallible and that you may have made some mistakes,” he said. “It’s a great liberation to be able to say, ‘I was wrong.’”

Tim Robbins in 'Silo'

Photo: Apple TV+

When Silo returns and shows us more of Bernard’s redemption arc, we’ll also see more of the remarkable transformation Robbins underwent in Season 3. “There’s a lot of time to reflect when you have three and a half, four hours of makeup in the morning. But it’s about the entire body,” Robbins recalled. “It’s about the throat. It’s about the pain that you’re constantly in, that every time they say ‘action,’ you put yourself in a situation of imagining what it’s like to be constantly burning… and any touch is like an explosion.”

In the way that Ferguson had to completely alter the way she approached Juliette to portray her with memory loss, Season 3 challenged Robbins to reinvent Bernard, and he absolutely nails the incredibly layered performance.

“It’s a huge gift as an actor to be able to have that kind of physical awareness helping you make your character decisions, and the way that you speak, and what you say, and how you behave,” Robbins reflected. Tragic Double Death of Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Set Designer and Husband Shocks Community

0

Tragedy struck in Queens as Mary Golding, a talented set designer for “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” was discovered fatally stabbed in her home, as per a statement from the NYPD. The heartbreaking incident unfolded in the early hours of July 21.

At the age of 34, Golding was found with a fatal wound to her back in the basement of her Astoria residence, shortly after the clock struck midnight. The police were alerted following a distress call reporting an assault, and upon arrival, they declared her deceased on the scene, as shared with Oxygen.

Later that morning, around 6:39 a.m., officers were called to another incident where they found a man, estimated to be between 30 and 35, lying unconscious and lifeless near Astoria Park South and Shore Boulevard. The NYPD confirmed his death on site.

Though the identity of this man has not been officially released, a source within the police department informed People magazine that the deceased was Joseph Azzaretto, Golding’s husband. The couple shared an 11-month-old son, adding a layer of sorrow to the already grim narrative.

Authorities are currently exploring the possibility that these deaths might be a case of murder-suicide, according to insights from sources within the NYPD. However, this has yet to be officially confirmed as the inquiry continues without any arrests being made.

Neighbors shared insight into the couple’s relationship, describing Azzaretto as someone allegedly quick to lose his temper.

“He was an angry person,” one neighbor claimed. “I decided to avoid him. I didn’t even look at his text messages.”

Golding built a career working behind the scenes in television production, serving as a set designer on the Emmy-winning Prime Video series , The Flight Attendant, the TV series Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Hawkeye and Marry Me.

Most recently, Golding received an art department credit on the upcoming independent film Deep Cuts, which is currently in post-production.

Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

The news comes six years after tragedy hit the family. In February 2020, Azzaretto’s brother Nicholas Azzaretto, shot and killed their father, Frank Nicholas Azzaretto, according to WFMZ.

Nicholas pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in November 2021 and received 10 years of probation, with two years of electronic monitoring, per the New York Post.

Meghan Reveals Heartwarming Holiday Moments with Harry & Kids

0

In a heartfelt glimpse into their private lives, Meghan Markle recently unveiled a collection of ‘summer holiday’ snapshots, featuring Prince Harry and their children, Archie and Lilibet, during their European sojourn—including what seems to be a trip to Princess Diana’s childhood residence.

The family embarked on a European tour over the last few weeks as a prelude to Prince Harry’s anticipated return to the UK. The occasion? The Invictus Games in Birmingham, an event for which Harry initially planned to have Meghan and their children accompany him throughout the five-day spectacle.

Contrary to the original plan, the Duke of Sussex made the journey to Britain solo. The drama heightened when, mere hours before his London arrival, an anticipated invitation to stay at Buckingham Palace was unexpectedly retracted.

Meanwhile, Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, opted for a stealthy entrance into the UK with their children—Archie, aged seven, and Lilibet, aged five—arriving discreetly due to ongoing security worries.

While the precise location of their holiday remains unconfirmed, widespread speculation gravitates towards Portugal. Reports suggest that the Sussexes have acquired a secondary residence there, in close proximity to Harry’s cousin Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank.

Indeed, in one of the posts shared to her Instagram, Meghan shared the image of a front of a Portuguese fish restaurant, O Melidense.

Another post from the carousel is believed to show the family visiting Althorp, Princess Diana’s childhood home.

In the shot, Lilibet was seen walking through an avenue of trees and hedges, with Harry and Archie strolling together up ahead appearing to hold bouquets.

The appearance of flowers has suggested to some that the family were visiting Diana’s burial site, which is on an island in the middle of Oval lake, situated on the Spencer family’s ancestral estate, according to People.

There was some speculation at the time that the family may visit Althorp as the estate’s website reportedly said the property would be closed to the public on July 10 and 11.

In one photo Meghan can be seen laughing with Harry at a dinner table, while in another she is seen walking near the beach with Lilibet.

There was also a shot of Archie walking barefoot in the sunset holding a stick and one of Harry playfully tossing Lilibet through the air while swimming in a pool.

In all the pictures of the children, their face’s were turned away from the camera in a fashion that has become typical for Meghan – a move she has done to protect their privacy.

Among the other snaps were shots of curated dinner tables, a landscape of hills around a lake, and picked lavender stalks.

Following their trip on the continent, Harry, Meghan, Archie and Lilibet enjoyed a private cup of tea with King Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove.

The visit – which would have been the first time Charles had seen his daughter-in-law and grandchildren since 2022 – was confirmed by Buckingham Palace after the family had left.

Harry and his family are believed to have met the King and Queen for more than an hour.

The visit to Highgrove came after a chaotic back-and-forth about where Prince Harry would stay during his trip.

The King is said to have lost patience when Harry dithered over an offer to stay at Buckingham Palace at the start of his trip.

The Duke initially rejected the accommodation before changing his mind and attempting to accept after the deadline had passed.

Harry’s spokesman subsequently briefed the BBC that he would be staying at the Palace, only for the King’s aides to indicate that he had left it too late.

Queensland Reports First Bird Flu Case: Latest Updates from SBS News

0

The infamous H5 bird flu has likely made its way to Queensland’s shores for the very first time. With the virus being detected in 17 wild seabird cases across Australia, there’s a renewed sense of urgency about the threat it poses to animals already at risk.

A post-mortem on a petrel found on Moreton Island has returned a preliminary positive test for the highly pathogenic H5 avian influenza, according to the findings from Queensland’s Biosecurity Sciences Laboratory.

In order to confirm these findings, further samples have been dispatched to the CSIRO’s Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness.

Carol Booth, who directs policy at the Invasive Species Council, has voiced concerns, emphasizing that the presence of the H5 bird flu in Queensland is a serious issue for those passionate about native wildlife conservation in Australia.

“The fact that bird flu has reached Queensland’s coastline is alarming. Every Australian who cares for our native wildlife must take notice,” Booth stated.

“We can’t stop this virus, but we can boost the capacity of wildlife to survive and recover from outbreaks.”

Australia reported its first case of H5 bird flu on 20 June, and there are now 17 confirmed detections of the serious H5 strain in wild seabirds — 10 in Western Australia, five in South Australia and two in NSW.

Fears of ‘devastating’ impact to wildlife

Booth said surveillance efforts were working but warned they would not be enough once the virus hit vulnerable species.

“Finding cases is only the first step — once this disease reaches vulnerable wildlife populations, surveillance won’t prevent the devastating impacts we’ve seen overseas,” she said.

“Millions of wild birds and marine mammals have died, and unless we do everything we can to strengthen the resilience of at-risk populations, there’s every reason to fear Australia could face similar losses.”

There have been no detections in poultry and no evidence of large-scale deaths in any animals in Queensland, according to the Department of Primary Industries.

Chicken and eggs still safe to eat, minister says

“It is safe to continue to eat chicken meat or eggs, and I would encourage Queenslanders to purchase these products as they normally would,” said Queensland’s Primary Industries Minister Tony Perrett.

Queensland’s Chief Veterinary Officer, Allison Crook, said the suspected positive result was anticipated and the state was well prepared.

“We have known that a H5 bird flu detection in Queensland was a matter of when, not if,” Crook said.

“This suspect positive result has not impacted our poultry sector or native wildlife and we are continuing our enhanced passive surveillance program throughout the state and would encourage the community and industry to continue to be vigilant.”

Booth continued to urge the federal government to back a major “wildlife resilience” package to help species withstand bird flu and other threats.

“We are urgently calling on the Albanese government to invest $200 million in a wildlife resilience package that would reduce the other pressures pushing vulnerable species towards extinction,” she said.

“These are practical, no-regrets investments that will help wildlife withstand bird flu while also making Australia better prepared for future disease outbreaks and other environmental threats.”

Both state authorities and conservationists are urging Queenslanders, and those further afield, to remain vigilant.
