Rita Ora has touched down in Australia, ready to make a splash at two major events on the local scene. The British pop sensation arrived at Sydney Airport on Sunday, exuding an upbeat and lively demeanor.

At 35, Rita showcased a casually stylish look that turned heads. She wore a fitted grey tank top beneath a striped, open ‘boyfriend shirt’—a garment that could very well belong to her husband, the acclaimed New Zealand director Taika Waititi.

Embracing comfort, Rita paired her ensemble with black track pants and classic white Nike sneakers. To cap off her look, the singer donned designer sunglasses, while a black and white bandana held back her signature blonde locks.

The pop star shielded her famous face with designer sunglasses and pinned her blonde hair back under a black and white bandana.

She added to the look with a number of pieces of gold jewellery, while wearing minimal makeup.

Rita is set to present an award at the Vogue Forces of Fashion event in Sydney this month, as well as performing at the Formula 1 Grand Prix 2026 in Melbourne in March.

It comes after Ora revealed it was a ‘real eye opener’ becoming a stepmother to her husband Waititi’s children.

Rita and director and actor Taika tied the knot in 2022 and Rita became a stepmother to his daughters Te Kāinga o te Hinekāhu, 13, and Matewa Kiritapu, nine.

In a rare comment on her family life, Rita opened up about how being a stepmother changed her perspective on the world.

Speaking to The Sun, Rita said she finds the role ‘easy’, but confessed it helped her understand how much more there is to life.

She said: ‘It’s really easy. We wake up, we work out together with the kids running on the treadmills, it’s a family affair.

‘I have to say it’s been a real eye-opener to understand that sometimes there’s more to life than what you care about in that moment.

‘I’ve realised there’s so much more, so [becoming a stepmother] did give me that.’

Film director Taika, 50, shares his two children with his ex-wife Chelsea Winstanley, also 50, who he split from in 2018 after seven years of marriage.

Last year Rita shared rare insight into her marriage to Taika while flaunting her jaw-dropping figure in a stunning shoot for Hunger magazine.

Rita credited their strong friendship as the key component to their romantic relationship.

Telling the publication: ‘Taika and I are basically just best friends and we wanted to just live in that element forever, I guess.’

The couple wed in a secret ceremony in August 2022, after Rita bucked tradition and popped the question.

Their low-key Los Angeles ceremony wasn’t confirmed by the couple until a year later, which Rita told Grazia they ‘winged with zero planning’.

After years of not being in the right relationship during her ‘messy twenties’, Rita said that when she got together with Taika it felt ‘right and safe’.

The pair started dating in March 2021, before going public with their romance that August.

Prior to their romantic relationship, Rita and Taika were close friends for five years.

Urgent Alert: Severe Tropical Cyclone Threatens Northern Australia with Potential Devastation

0
Residents in storm-lashed Far North Queensland could be facing another tropical cyclone in a few days, a potential second giant storm within just a few weeks.

The Bureau of Meteorology has announced that it is closely monitoring Tropical Cyclone Maila, a formidable Category 3 storm. This cyclone is currently packing sustained winds of 120 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 165 km/h.

Just last month, Tropical Cyclone Narelle wreaked havoc across Australia, impacting regions such as north Queensland, the Northern Territory, and Western Australia as both a cyclone and an ex-cyclone.

The Bureau reports that Tropical Cyclone Maila is presently stationary in the Solomon Sea. However, projections suggest that it could shift towards the Far North Queensland coast later this week, with a potential landfall over the weekend.

Communities still recovering from the destructive winds and floods caused by Tropical Cyclone Narelle may once again find themselves in the path of severe weather if Cyclone Maila continues its anticipated southwestern trajectory.

This year’s cyclone season, which runs until the end of this month, has already been a busy one, Weatherzone reports.

This marks the 11th named tropical cyclone to either develop within or move into the Australian region during this cyclone season.

The cyclone should reach severe intensity (Category 3) by late next Sunday or early Monday, modelling suggests.

“Should it cross the Cape York Peninsula, the system could weaken over land and then reintensify in the Gulf of Carpentaria, before impacting the eastern Top End early next week as it moves west,” Weatherzone said.

It’s too early to forecast whether Tropical Cyclone Maila will also impact Western Australia, forecasters say.

But they’re reminding Top End communities to be mindful that a weakened or redeveloped system could bring heavy downpours and to check for updates.

South Korea Unveils ‘Credible Intelligence’ on Kim Jong Un’s Successor in North Korea

0

South Korea’s National Intelligence Service (NIS) believes that Kim Jong Un has earmarked his daughter as his eventual successor, lawmakers disclosed on Monday. This revelation was reported by Reuters, following insights shared after a confidential parliamentary session.

The NIS based its conclusions on what it described as “credible intelligence.” According to Reuters, both ruling and opposition party members received briefings that led to this understanding, highlighting the agency’s confidence in its sources.

Video footage posted last month showed Kim and his daughter on a tank.

In a photo released by the North Korean government, Kim Jong Un is seen with his daughter, reportedly named Kim Ju Ae, during a military training exercise. The image, dated March 19, 2026, shows them alongside soldiers on a tank, signaling a potential focus on her military capabilities.

South Korean officials noted that this display, particularly the image of the girl operating a tank, was likely intended to underline her military aptitude. This move addresses and possibly counters skepticism about a female successor, as interpreted by lawmakers.

The North Korean state media agency, KCNA, recently published images of Kim Jong Un and his daughter with military equipment, including a tank. These followed earlier visuals of the young girl handling firearms, further fueling speculations about her future role, as reported by Reuters.

The daughter is thought to be about 13 years old and named Ju Ae.

The outlet reported that ruling Democratic Party lawmaker Park Sun-won indicated that the scenes are meant to pay “homage” to the North Korean leader’s military appearances years ago when he was being set up to succeed his father as regime leader.

Korea Institute for National Unification analyst Hong Min said the tank scene is not enough to determine that she has been established as her father’s successor, pointing out that she appeared with her father rather than independently, unlike her father’s independent military appearances as he was being groomed to take the helm.

South Korea to send ships to Red Sea port to avoid Strait of Hormuz

South Korea is gearing up to deploy five ships to the port of Yanbu on Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coast as it seeks to establish new oil supply routes, according to a member of the ruling party. This move comes in response to growing concerns over the potential disruption of the Strait of Hormuz.

The recent surge in oil prices, fueled by ongoing conflicts, poses significant risks to South Korea’s economic growth and inflation. The nation depends heavily on Middle Eastern oil, which accounts for about 70% of its crude imports.

In light of these challenges, the South Korean government is considering emergency measures such as implementing a fuel price cap, a measure not taken since the financial crisis of 1997.

The decision to explore alternative oil routes follows Iran’s effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a move in retaliation against military actions by the United States and Israel.

“It is imperative that Korean-flagged vessels navigate alternative routes to ensure a stable supply of crude oil,” stated lawmaker Ahn Do-geol. This statement came after a critical meeting with key government agencies, including the energy ministry, to discuss the country’s energy security strategy.

‘We are pushing to deploy five South Korean-flagged vessels to Yanbu port in Saudi Arabia, in the Red Sea region,’ he said, without giving details.

Unveiling Dan Hurley’s Secret to NCAA Glory: The Lucky Charm Behind the Coach’s Winning Streak

0

Dan Hurley might owe a bit of his recent success with UConn to a surprising source: his wife, Andrea.

In a Sunday interview with CBS Sports, Andrea shared that she nearly left behind a crucial good-luck charm ahead of Saturday’s Final Four clash against Illinois.

Fortunately, she remembered just in time.

Andrea explained that Hurley consistently wears a bracelet made of holy beads, which he acquired at a church “years ago.” This bracelet is prone to breaking, and Andrea often finds herself repairing it during games.

“He wears them for every single game, but they break all the time,” Andrea said. “They’ve been falling apart for years, scattering beads everywhere. So I always re-thread them, and I even made a trip to Hobby Lobby to get more wooden beads for it.”

Andrea forgot the beads in her hotel. She arrived at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis for Saturday’s game and had to quickly rush back to retrieve them.

Once she did, Andrea said she received a police escort back to the arena — just to get the beads to her husband.

The charm worked again as the Huskies were in the lead nearly the whole way through. UConn downed Illinois 71-62, advancing to the national championship game for the third time in four years.

“I grabbed the beads, then I got a police escort back with the holy beads. So I saved it — the win is all mine,” Andrea joked.

In the win, UConn had three players with double-digit points, including Tarris Reed Jr.’s double-double. Freshman Braylon Mullins — the hero of the Huskies’ Elite 8 win over Duke — also buried another 3 with less than a minute left to pad their late lead against Illinois.

The Fighting Illini nearly stormed back from down 14, but poor 3-point shooting and the Huskies’ discipline at the free-throw line closed the game out.

“We’re a tough program, we’re a group of fighters,” Hurley said postgame. “We’ve got incredible will. We go into these games, we’re ready for battle…It’s a life-and-death struggle for us to get to Monday night for the opportunity to win a championship.”

Hurley will get that chance when UConn faces No. 1 seed Michigan in the national title game Monday. If the Huskies win, it’ll be their third championship in four years after winning back-to-back rings in 2023 and 2024.

It would also cement Hurley as one of the best current coaches in the game. He already sits second all-time with an .800 winning percentage in the NCAA Tournament among those who’ve coached at least 25 games.

Maybe his lucky bracelet is why he’s having so much success.

Savannah Guthrie Rejoins ‘Today’ Anchor Desk Following Mother’s Disappearance

On Monday, Savannah Guthrie made her much-anticipated return to NBC’s “Today” show, resuming her role at the anchor desk after a challenging two-month hiatus following her mother’s disappearance. As the show kicked off, Guthrie, with a mix of determination and anticipation, declared, “Here we go, ready or not. Let’s do the news.”

Following a rundown of the day’s headlines, Guthrie expressed her gratitude to viewers, saying, “We are so glad that you started our week with us, and it’s good to be home.” Her co-anchor, Craig Melvin, warmly welcomed her back, affirming, “It’s good to have you back at home.”

In a show of camaraderie, she addressed her longtime colleague Al Roker with a cheerful “Good morning, Sunshine,” as he noted the pleasure of seeing her return to the set. As the initial 25-minute segment concluded, Guthrie and Melvin shared a celebratory high-five.

Emotions ran high during the show’s final half-hour, as Guthrie joined her team in front of enthusiastic fans at the Rockefeller Center studio. She was visibly moved when she spotted a supporter sporting a “Welcome home Savannah” shirt, leading her to clutch Jenna Bush Hager’s arm for support and express heartfelt gratitude to the audience.

Guthrie says it’s hard to go forward not knowing what happened

Guthrie, a familiar face in morning television since 2012, acknowledged the personal transformation she has undergone amidst this ordeal. The uncertainty surrounding her mother, Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance, believed to be an abduction from her Arizona home, has profoundly impacted her. Despite the unknowns, Guthrie is determined to move forward with resilience.

Despite an intense search involving thousands of federal and local officers and volunteers, there has been no sign of the 84-year-old mother of three since she was reported missing Feb. 1.

The “Today” show has followed the story closely for the past two months, but it wasn’t mentioned during the first hour of her return on Monday. Bringing things back to normal was clearly intentional: Her return wasn’t referenced during interviews with NBC’s Gabe Gutierrez at the White House and military analyst Steve Warren on the show’s set.

Hoda Kotb, the former anchor who had filled in for Guthrie for much of the past two months and interviewed her former colleague, wasn’t on set Monday.

“Today” has seen a ratings boost over the past two months and has even eclipsed ABC’s “Good Morning America” as the leader in the morning show ratings. The shows aren’t the profit generators they once were for the networks, but the rivalry is still intense.

“Today” averaged 3.1 million viewers for the first three months of the year, up nearly 9% in an era most broadcast programs lose viewers. It’s hard to tell how much the Guthrie story had to do with that: NBC also aired the Super Bowl and the Winter Olympics in February, and both events tend to help a morning show’s ratings.

“Good Morning America” averaged 2.93 million viewers, up 2% over 2025 while “CBS Mornings” plunged 17% to 1.76 million, according to the Nielsen company.

As part of a video message released by her New York church on Easter Sunday, Guthrie spoke about feeling “moments of deep disappointment with God, the feeling of utter abandonment.” But she said the resurrection is not fully celebrated “if we do not acknowledge the feelings of loss, pain, and yes, death.”

In announcing her return to NBC’s flagship morning show, Guthrie said she was uncertain whether she’ll feel like she still belongs.

“It’s hard to imagine doing it because it’s such a place of joy and lightness,” she said just over a week ago on “Today” during her first interview since the disappearance. “I can’t come back and try to be something that I’m not. But I can’t not come back because it’s my family.”

She didn’t anticipate faking her way through the show, which is normally light-hearted with a mix of serious, breaking news.

Guthrie’s mom had made occasional visits to show’s set

There had been a great deal of speculation about whether she would return.

“I want to smile, and when I do it will be real,” she told Hoda Kotb, who came back to “Today” to fill in while Guthrie focused on the search. “Being there is joyful, and when it’s not I’ll say so.”

Nancy Guthrie made occasional appearances on “Today” over the years, once taking part in a cooking demonstration and surprising her daughter on the set. When Savannah Guthrie returned to her hometown of Tucson in 2025 for a segment recorded for the show, the two visited one of their favorite restaurants and talked about their love of Arizona.

The Guthrie family has offered a $1 million reward for information leading to the recovery of their mother.

Authorities believe Nancy Guthrie was kidnapped, abducted or otherwise taken against her will after finding blood near the doorstep of her home in the foothills outside Tucson. The FBI later released surveillance videos showing a masked man on the porch that night. Volunteers and search teams scoured the nearby desert terrain filled with cactuses, bushes and boulders in the first weeks after she vanished.

But attention has faded from an investigation that was declared to be a top priority for the FBI and local authorities. Investigators have not released new evidence in weeks and say the number of tips has slowed. The FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department both said late last week that they had no updates.

Early on, some media outlets reported receiving ransom messages tied to the case. Guthrie said she and her siblings responded to two that they believed were real and offered to pay.

Guthrie said her celebrity status might be the reason her mother was taken, but said that possibility was “too much to bear.”

A Sydney socialite has been found dead in her apartment in a beachside suburb.

Last week, police in Maroubra discovered Annabelle Price after conducting a welfare check, confirming that her passing was not suspicious in nature.

Annabelle was a prominent figure in Sydney’s social circles, having been previously married to investment banker Freddie Blencke, with whom she shared two children.

Following her marriage, she became engaged to financier Thomas Fennell, a milestone she publicly shared on Instagram in 2023.

At that time, she posted a photo of a sparkling diamond ring on her social media account.

According to New South Wales Police, officers responded to concerns about her welfare at a residence on Wride Street in Maroubra last Sunday.

Emotional Return: Savannah Guthrie Rejoins ‘Today’ Show After Mother’s Safe Recovery

“It’s wonderful to be back,” Savannah Guthrie expressed as she resumed her role on the “Today” show after an absence exceeding two months.

Monday marked her return to the anchor desk following the mysterious disappearance of her mother, Nancy Guthrie, from her Arizona residence sometime after the night of January 31.

The broadcast kicked off with a brief nod to Guthrie’s return, although the show did not delve into details about her mother’s situation. Co-host Craig Melvin simply remarked, “It’s great to have you back at home,” as the segment commenced.

Guthrie cheerfully announced, “Well, here we go, ready or not, let’s do the news,” signaling her readiness to dive back into her duties.

While Guthrie has shared videos on social platforms and participated in an interview with former co-anchor Hoda Kotb, she had not been engaged in her regular tasks since her mother went missing.

“It’s hard to imagine doing it because it’s such a place of joy and lightness, and I can’t come back and try to be something that I’m not,” Savannah Guthrie told Kotb on March 27. “But I can’t not come back, because it’s my family. I think it’s part of my purpose right now.”

Over the weekend, Guthrie recorded a message for her church admitting that she momentarily questioned whether scripture’s teaching that Jesus experienced all human emotions was correct as she went through the agony of waiting for answers about her mother’s apparent abduction that still haven’t come.

“After Jesus died, after he breathed his last breath, what did he actually know?” Guthrie said in the message. “On the cross, he cried out, ‘My god, my god, why have you forsaken me?’ That is the anguished cry of someone who does not know the answers.”

Recent revelations about the investigation show it may have been hamstrung from the beginning. A source told Nexstar’s NewsNation that the Pima County Sheriff’s Office had an inexperienced head in charge of its homicide investigation unit and assumed Nancy Guthrie, 84, wandered off on her own in the beginning, to the detriment of the investigation. The union representing local deputies unanimously gave a vote of no confidence to Sheriff Chris Nanos.

In the opening weeks of the investigation, photos and video of a masked individual appearing to disable Nancy Guthrie’s doorbell camera sparked optimism that a break could come in the case, but a source told NewsNation there are no suspect.

While she and her siblings waited in Arizona for answers about their mother, Savannah Guthrie missed out on covering the Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy, for which she had spent weeks preparing. Sources also told NewsNation that in the early days of the investigation, she was considering leaving the role altogether.

Unveiling Polymarket: The Unregulated Foreign Entity Behind the Popular Prediction Market

0

A rapidly expanding crypto betting platform is under the microscope due to its practice of channeling the majority of its operations through an offshore entity, enabling it to present wagers that would otherwise be prohibited in the U.S.

Polymarket, which has soared to a valuation exceeding $9 billion, offers users the chance to place bets on diverse topics ranging from political elections to potential arrests. Observers argue that its operational model is crucial in circumventing the stringent regulations applicable to American exchanges.

A significant 97% of Polymarket’s transactions are processed by an obscure Panamanian firm, Adventure One QSS Inc., effectively placing much of its business activity beyond U.S. regulatory reach.

This arrangement has fostered the emergence of numerous contentious markets, most recently including those linked to actual criminal events.

In one notable example, users staked over $188,000 on the likelihood of an arrest in the case of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance, thus transforming an ongoing investigation into a speculative betting arena.

The example has fueled fresh concerns about how far these platforms can go when operating beyond US rules.

Under US law, platforms cannot allow wagers tied to events like war, terrorism, assassination or death. But those kinds of markets have appeared on Polymarket’s offshore site.

The company was founded in 2020 by US entrepreneur Shayne Coplan, then 22, who launched it during the pandemic as a way for users to bet on real-world events using cryptocurrency.

Polymarket, a crypto-based betting platform where users wager on real-world events, conducts the vast majority of its business - around 97 per cent by volume - through a little-known Panamanian company called Adventure One QSS Inc

Polymarket, a crypto-based betting platform where users wager on real-world events, conducts the vast majority of its business – around 97 per cent by volume – through a little-known Panamanian company called Adventure One QSS Inc

Initially, Polymarket marketed itself as a more transparent alternative to traditional betting or forecasting, arguing that market prices reflect collective beliefs.

But as it grew, it also drew scrutiny from regulators, particularly in the US, because event-based contracts can fall under derivatives law.

That regulatory pressure led to a major turning point. In January 2022, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) fined Polymarket’s original US entity Blockratize Inc $1.4 million and ordered it to wind down unregistered markets.

Shortly after, the platform’s main activity shifted offshore to a Panama-incorporated entity, Adventure One, which now handles the vast majority of trading volume.

Only a small part of its business – roughly 3 percent – runs through a registered American entity that complies with oversight from the CFTC.

The Panama-based company, however, is not subject to those same requirements. That means it does not have to carry out identity checks, monitor trading in the same way, or restrict certain types of bets.

Despite this, company leadership remains closely tied to the founder Coplan and current president Harry Jones are both based in the United States, according to public records.

Under US rules, platforms cannot allow betting on events involving war, terrorism, assassination or death. Those restrictions stem from the Commodity Exchange Act, which governs financial derivatives markets.

Yet such markets have appeared on Polymarket’s offshore platform, alongside a wide range of geopolitical and other high-risk event contracts.

In January, an anonymous user turned a $32,000 bet into more than $400,000 by correctly betting Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro would be captured. Most of the trades came just hours before the surprise US operation that removed him from power.

On another occasion, online sleuths spotted one anonymous account that correctly predicted nearly every outcome tied to the Super Bowl halftime show.

The structure Polymarket operates by also allows users to trade without providing personal information.

Unlike US-regulated exchanges, which require identity verification and sanctions screening, access to the offshore platform typically only requires a crypto wallet.

Critics argue this creates potential risks, including the possibility of trading by sanctioned individuals, minors, or bad actors using anonymous accounts.

Researchers have also raised concerns about trading activity on the platform.

A 2025 academic study out of Columbia Business School and Barnard College found that roughly a quarter of transactions showed patterns consistent with ‘wash trading’ – a practice where traders buy and sell to themselves to artificially inflate activity. On regulated exchanges, such behavior is banned and monitored through surveillance systems.

Separate analyses have flagged unusual trading patterns tied to major geopolitical events, with some accounts appearing to place highly accurate bets shortly before key developments.

Under US rules, platforms cannot allow betting on events involving war, terrorism, assassination or death. Those restrictions stem from the Commodity Exchange Act, which governs financial derivatives markets

While these findings do not prove wrongdoing, they have fueled debate about whether unregulated prediction markets are vulnerable to manipulation or insider advantage.

Regulators around the world have taken notice.

More than 15 jurisdictions – including the UK, France, Singapore and Canada’s Ontario province – have either blocked access to Polymarket or taken enforcement action against its offshore operations.

Authorities have cited concerns ranging from unlicensed gambling to lack of investor protections.

In the US, regulators previously fined Polymarket’s earlier operating entity and ordered it to shut down certain markets.

Shortly after, operations shifted to the Panama-based company.

The situation highlights a broader dilemma for regulators.

Demand for prediction markets – where users bet on everything from elections to economic indicators – continues to grow.

Last month, Intercontinental Exchange announced that it had invested $600 million in Polymarket, ‌as the New York Stock Exchange parent expands into the fast-growing event-based trading segment.

The funding is part of the exchange operator’s previously announced plan to invest up to $2 billion in Polymarket, the company said.

But strict rules in the US limit what regulated platforms can offer.

As a result, some of that demand is moving offshore, where platforms face fewer restrictions but also less oversight.

Supporters argue prediction markets can provide valuable insights and crowd-sourced forecasting.

Critics counter that without proper safeguards, they risk enabling harmful or unethical betting activity.

Polymarket declined to comment to the Daily Mail.
