Joseph Duggar’s Exclusive Jail Cell Workout: How He Stays Fit Behind Bars

Joseph Duggar utilized some of his time in jail by focusing on fitness.

“I’ve started working out,” Joseph, 31, shared with his wife, Kendra Duggar, during a phone conversation from his recent incarceration at the Washington County Sheriff’s Office in Arkansas, as reported by Us Weekly. “I’m doing my burn bootcamp-style workout now.”

He elaborated that he was confined to a “seven by 11-style” cell and was keen on staying active.

“I figured I might as well do something,” the former Counting On star told Kendra, 27, in the call. “I’m doing squats and push-ups. I can do dips off the edge of the bed.”

Joseph Duggar offered insights into his life behind bars at the Washington County Detention Facility in Arkansas during a conversation with his wife, Kendra Duggar. “I’ve been spending a lot of time reading, uh, reading the Bible. They got me a Bible in here,” Joseph, 31, mentioned to Kendra, 27, during the call.

In addition to his daily workout, Joseph also tried to avoid eating “junk” food.

“I’m not eating, like, hardly any of the bready stuff. I’m trying not to eat junk, mostly just eat the veggies and the protein stuff,” he told Kendra. “There was this chicken sandwich thing that was breaded, but I ate the bread and the breaded chicken. I’m trying to focus on just doing that, and hopefully I’ll trim up some in the process.”

He added, “I feel better. Don’t feel as bloated as I was before.”

As for Kendra, she revealed that she has also been “trimming up.”

“I haven’t gotten on the scale, but I feel a lot trimmer now,” Kendra told her husband. “I’m not bloated either. I’m gonna be ‘skinny mini. I cannot eat. Mama keeps trying to get me to eat, but unless it’s liquid, it doesn’t really go down. It’s been a battle.”

Joseph, who is one of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar’s 19 children, was arrested in Arkansas on March 18 on charges of lewd and lascivious behavior after allegedly molesting a 9-year-old girl in Florida in 2020. The victim, now 14, told police that Joseph “eventually apologized for his actions” at the time before “the incidents stopped.”

Kendra Duggar Tells Joseph She’s Staying Somewhere ‘Private’ After Arrest for Child Endangerment

New audio of Joseph Duggar and wife Kendra Duggar shows the couple discussing her whereabouts after their arrests. “It’s good to hear from you,” Kendra, 27, told Joseph, 31, according to a March 20 collect call he placed to her from Washington County Detention Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas, that was obtained by Entertainment Weekly. In […]

News broke two days later that Joseph is also facing four counts of endangering the welfare of a minor, second-degree, and four counts of second-degree false imprisonment. Kendra was arrested on the same charges and released on bond within hours.  In a separate jail conversation with Joseph, Kendra revealed that she doesn’t presently have custody of their four children.

A source told Us Weekly that Kendra’s arrest is unrelated to Joseph’s incarceration.

“Kendra’s arrest has nothing to do with Joseph’s — although one precipitated another,” the insider with knowledge of the case told Us last month. “After his charge, they automatically do a home study if minors live there. They came to her house. Apparently, they had two rooms where the lock of the doorknob was on the outside instead of inside. They arrested her and took her kids for that, saying it’s evidence that she wrongly detains her kids.”

Joseph was extradited to Florida earlier this week, where he pleaded not guilty to the accusations. He was released on a $600,000 bond.

Embattled Congressman Faces New Allegations of Inappropriate Messages to Another Aide

0

Recently surfaced text messages suggest that Texas Congressman Tony Gonzales persistently sought a sexual relationship with a second aide, years prior to the scandalous affair that ultimately derailed his political career.

In a trove of alleged text exchanges from 2020, the Texas Republican is seen repeatedly requesting nude photographs and attempting to start a sexual liaison with his then-political director. At one point, he explicitly expressed a desire for her to ‘squeeze my balls.’

These messages, obtained by the San Antonio Express News, emerge just weeks after Gonzales withdrew from his congressional re-election campaign. This decision followed the exposure of his affair with another staffer, who tragically took her own life by self-immolation.

The Daily Mail first uncovered the affair in October 2025, shortly after Regina Aviles’s tragic suicide in the backyard of her home in Uvalde.

Throughout both incidents involving his aides, Gonzales remained married to his wife, Angel. The couple has six children together.

Gonzales did not immediately respond to Daily Mail’s request for comment on the 2020 allegations.

The woman involved in the 2020 texts – who is not named in the report – said she came forward after Aviles’ death, telling the paper, ‘This behavior needs to stop.’

During one late-night conversation between Gonzales and the staffer in 2020, the congressman pressured her for nude photos.

’47 nos is about my limit,’ Gonzales said after being turned down.

However, the next day he pressured her again to send naked pictures.

‘I know what I want and won’t stop until I get it,’ Gonzales said in June 15, 2020 message.

The staffer sent back a facepalm emoji.

‘You better do that in Congress. And take me with you,’ she added.

At the time of the 2020 texts, Gonzales was running in a heated primary in his first ever bid to represent Texas’s 23rd Congressional district.

The woman claims she never had a sexual relationship with Gonzales, however, she did admit he paid her late-night visits at her house.

‘Want me to come over again,’ Gonzales says in one 2020 text.

‘If I come over though, your panties are coming off.’

Messages between the two appear to show he did not stay the night.

‘Okay you have two options… I left (as I did) and we continue the mystery,’ Gonzales text her.

‘I stayed and we f—ed like rabbits. Which one would you choose?’

‘Leave. And let the mystery build,’ she replied.

She also admitted to participating in sending inappropriate messages.

‘I’m not totally innocent in all this,’ she told the Express-News, adding that she regretted having ‘played him.’

However, the retired Navy officer did not take the rejection well.

‘I don’t do well not being wanted,’ he wrote before asking her for a nude he did not get.

The former campaign worker explained that by October 2020, their relationship had become cold, but she continued working for him until November when he won his first seat in Congress.

Gonzales did not hire her to be part of his congressional staff when he went to Washington, DC.

Gonzales is serving out his final months in office after being forced to drop out of his re-election race after the affair with Aviles was revealed by Daily Mail.

Several elected officials and constituents in his Texas district tell Daily Mail Gonzales has stopped performing some of his duties despite continuing to receive his $174,000 yearly congressional salary.

Gonzales is not responding to at least some of his constituents and is shunning media attention, according to multiple people interviewed by the Daily Mail.

Amid mounting pressure from his Republican colleague, Gonzales finally admitted to cheating on his wife a day after coming in second in a razor-tight March 3 primary.

The US Speaker of the House then called on Gonzales to drop out of the race- leaving a clear path for his opponent Brandon Herrera to move forward in the general election to represent the district.

He’s currently under investigation for his relationship with Aviles, accused of violating House rules which prohibit members of Congress from having sex with their staffers.

However, Gonzales appears to intend to finish out his term in office, which ends in January.

Search Intensifies for Missing American Woman Swept Overboard in Bahamas Boating Incident, Husband Reports

An American woman vanished in the Bahamas on Saturday after being pulled into the ocean by powerful currents during a boating excursion, local police reported.

The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. when the woman fell overboard while on a twilight boat ride with her husband, traveling from Hope Town to Elbow Cay, as stated by the Royal Bahamas Police Force. Authorities noted that as she fell, she inadvertently took the ignition key with her, which led to the boat’s engine shutting down.

Her husband, both of whom are U.S. nationals, quickly lost sight of her amid the strong currents.

Inside Carolyn Bessette’s Tension with Gwyneth Paltrow: What Really Happened?

Carolyn Bessette and Gwyneth Paltrow, both striking blonde figures standing at 5 feet 9 inches, embodied the essence of minimalist fashion in the nineties.

The Calvin Klein publicist, who later became the wife of JFK Jr., supposedly did not have much admiration for Paltrow, now aged 53, a celebrated figure in Hollywood well before her Oscar-winning performance in “Shakespeare in Love” in 1999. Paltrow, the daughter of actress Blythe Danner, was a favored client of the fashion brand.

Calvin Klein, now 83, often hosted events in Paltrow’s honor, offering her his helicopter and seating her prominently at his fashion shows across the globe.

Former Calvin Klein employee Kara Mendelsohn confirmed on February 18 that Klein went as far as arranging helicopter transport for Paltrow to attend one of his runway shows in 1998.

As detailed in Amy Odell’s “Gwyneth: The Biography,” published last July, Carolyn Bessette was part of the intimate team of publicists who assisted Paltrow. This detail has resurfaced among fans, spurred by the popularity of the TV drama “Love Story.”

‘According to one person familiar with her thinking, Gwyneth irked her. When there were pictures of Gwyneth in the papers, Bessette, who viewed her as “little miss perfect,” would make cutting remarks about her.’

Unlike Paltrow, Bessette graduated college, Boston University, and she didn’t have famous family connections to help her career.

The Connecticut-born beauty worked her way up from a Calvin Klein salesgirl at the Chestnut Hill Mall in Newton, MA in 1988 to the director of publicity at the company’s flagship store in Manhattan to earning six figures as director of show productions.

Bessette quit the brand in the spring of 1996 due to intense paparazzi harassment, and a few months later she wed George editor-in-chief John F. Kennedy Jr. but the marriage ended in 1999 with their tragic deaths in an avoidable plane crash.

And while Paltrow’s second husband Brad Falchuk is a longtime producing partner of Ryan Murphy, he was not involved in his hit miniseries, Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette, which became FX’s most-watched limited series ever on Hulu/Disney+.

Creator Connor Hines’ fictionalized nine-episode drama, based on Elizabeth Beller’s 2024 book Once Upon a Time, earned a ‘certified fresh’ 81 percent critic approval rating (out of 47 reviews) on Rotten Tomatoes.

Love Story starred Sarah Pidgeon, Paul Anthony Kelly, Grace Gummer, Naomi Watts, Alessandro Nivola, Dree Hemingway, Tonatiuh, Constance Zimmer, Sydney Lemmon, Donal Logue, Jessica Harper, Michael Nathanson and Leila George.

Meanwhile, Paltrow has passed down her substantial collection of vintage Calvin Klein skirts, tube skirts and slip dresses to her lookalike daughter Apple Martin.

The 21-year-old Vanderbilt University student donned the same plunging backless Calvin Klein LBD her famous mother wore to the Emma premiere in 1996, to the Marty Supreme premiere on December 16.

Major Delivery Services Implement Temporary Fuel Surcharges Amid Iran Conflict

0

The escalating conflict in Iran has led to increased fuel prices, resulting in higher delivery costs for packages.

Effective April 17, Amazon will implement additional surcharges on its sellers. Similarly, UPS, FedEx, and USPS have introduced fuel surcharges to offset the surging fuel expenses.

The spike in fuel prices is causing a noticeable impact at the gas stations, leaving many drivers stunned by the rising costs.

“It’s $137 dollars. That’s significant,” noted Jill from Pleasant Hill, reflecting on her recent experience filling up her tank on Sunday.

Since the conflict involving the U.S. and Israel with Iran began, the Strait of Hormuz has been closed. This vital corridor for oil shipments from leading producers has remained inaccessible, pushing oil prices higher and subsequently increasing gasoline costs.

To counter rising fuel costs, Amazon plans to tack a temporary 3.5% fuel surcharge on its third-party sellers.

“Transportation costs are a big factor there,” said Dr. Dima Leschinskii, a professor of Finance at Menlo College. “Every company that is involved and has logistics and they have to pay for gas, either they have to absorb this cost, or they will charge the third party that will provide this service. I’m not surprised this is happening, because at some point, Amazon will say we cannot absorb all this cost.”

The e-commerce giant is following in the footsteps of UPS, FedEx and the U.S. Postal Service.

Starting April 26, the USPS is slapping a temporary 8% price hike on certain packages, including priority mail shipments, because of increasing fuel prices.

That means customers may have to pay more for deliveries.

“That’s crazy,” said Stevie, a driver from San Francisco. “It’s going to slow people down from ordering stuff. Most definitely because you are already paying other costs on top of it.”

“One way or another, this is going to ripple through the supply chain and ripple through our pocketbooks,” said Professor Andy Tsay, a supply chain expert at Santa Clara University Leavey School of Business. “The higher oil prices are affecting shipping and logistics costs. Amazon, UPA, USPS. I don’t think there’s any escape. Mortgage rates are going up. Everyone is talking about affordability since before the presidential election and the geopolitical situation isn’t making things any better.”

Economic experts say as gas prices continue to rise, food delivery apps are also likely to consider fuel-related surcharges.

Shocking Incident: Toddler’s Close Call with Wolves While Distracted Parents Scroll On

0

News footage of the wolf enclosure at Hershey”s ZooAmerica park in Hershey, Pa. (WHTH).

A toddler in Pennsylvania sustained minor injuries after reportedly inserting his hand into a wolf enclosure at a zoo while his parents were allegedly distracted by their cellphones.

Stephen Wilson, 61, and Carrie Sortor, 43, now face misdemeanor charges of child endangerment. According to the Derry Township Police Department, the couple’s 17-month-old son managed to slip through a small gap in the wooden barrier surrounding the enclosure at Hershey’s ZooAmerica park. The young child reached through the metal fence, and a wolf, acting on natural instincts, took the child’s hand in its mouth.

At the time of the incident, Wilson and Sortor were reportedly seated on a bench approximately 25 to 30 feet from the enclosure, absorbed in their phones.

The police report stated that the parents had moved to a seating area nearly 30 feet from the wolf exhibit, where they remained focused on their devices until a “commotion” captured their attention.

This disturbance was caused by other zoo visitors who swiftly intervened to pull the boy away from the wolf, according to authorities.

According to a statement from a spokesperson for Hershey Entertainment and Resorts that was provided to local ABC affiliate WHTH, the boy was never actually inside the wolf enclosure. The statement read, “Our habitats are designed with multiple layers of protection, and clear signage and barriers are in place to help ensure safe viewing. Guests are expected to remain within designated areas and closely supervise children at all times.”

Local NBC affiliate WGAL had more of the statement from Hershey Entertainment and Resorts, which said that after reviewing the alleged incident, it was determined that the boy “was able to crawl under an exterior perimeter fence, travel to the primary metal enclosure surrounding the wolf habitat, and put his hand through that fence. A wolf approached and made contact with the child’s hand. This type of response is consistent with natural animal behavior and was not a sign of aggression.”

The spokesperson described the boy’s injuries as minor.

Court dates for Sortor and Wilson were not publicly available.

How a Simple Photo Almost Tricked Gabbie into a Costly Scam

0

The most troubling aspect was how close she came to being deceived.

Gabbie Foord, founder and creative director of Victorian candle brand MILKWICK, told nine.com.au there were no red flags when the new customer initially placed an order.

It began when she received an email from a customer claiming their order had been damaged during shipping. Accompanying the message was a photo showing two candles in disarray. The customer was requesting a free replacement, a request that business owner Foord would normally accommodate without hesitation.

However, there was something peculiar about the image that caught her attention.

“At first glance, I thought, ‘Wow, these candles have been severely damaged; something terrible must have happened during transit,'” Foord recounted in an interview with nine.com.au.

“Initially when I saw it I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, that’s been severely broken, something really bad has happened during transit,’” Foord told nine.com.au.

“Then, within a few seconds, I realised that the shape of the [candle] jar doesn’t match the shape of our jars.

“I noticed that the writing on the label had kind of been jumbled up [and] the more I looked at it, the more I discovered red flags.”

Foord said the “proof” the customer sent was obviously an AI-generated image.

This is the image the customer sent as 'proof' of the damage. Foord is certain it's AI generated.

The fact that the customer asked MILKWICK to replace the two damaged candles with different scents only made her more suspicious.

Fortunately, she shared her concerns with husband Kane before he sent out replacement candles.

“Initially he wasn’t thinking it was AI and he was definitely going to proceed with it,” Foord said.

“That’s what was quite shocking, that this customer almost got away with it.”

She asked the customer to send a video of the damaged order, at which point Foord claims the customer became defensive and threatened to report the business.

When Foord told the customer she would report any fraudulent claims to Victoria Police, the customer cut contact.

Professor Jeannie Paterson is co-director at the Centre for AI and Digital Ethics.

And that’s exactly what this was, according to Jeannie Paterson, Professor of Law at The University of Melbourne – attempted fraud.

“It’s actually a criminal offence, because you’re fraudulently trying to obtain an advantage,” she told nine.com.au.

“Fraud means intentionally deceive someone and you cannot argue it’s not intentional. You’re trying to operate a fraud on a business.”

Paterson has also heard of consumers using AI to generate fake receipts to try and access refunds they may not be entitled to.

She described it as a kind of “reverse scam” where shoppers target sellers.

“We’re in this spiral of fakes and frauds. I just feel awful about it,” she added.

Foord never imagined fraud by way of AI-generated images would be part of her journey as a small business owner.

The experience has forced her to reconsider how she processes replacements for orders damaged in transit.

Currently, MILKWICK doesn’t require customers to ship damaged products back to their Victoria warehouse because it’s an extra cost for the business.

That may change as AI becomes more ubiquitous.

“Maybe we will have to move to paying for those to be shipped back to us, even though they’re broken and that will be an extra expense for our business,” Foord said.

“You can’t risk people just stealing from you.”

Paterson predicts AI fraud cases like this could push small businesses to raise prices to cover the cost of additional shipping insurance or losses due to fraud.

MILKWICK sell up to 500 candles in glass jars each day and every now and then one is damaged in transit.

Businesses may also start requiring video proof of faulty or damaged goods before issuing replacements, exchanges or refunds.

”It’s very hard to see our way around this problem of AI fraud by the customer, because at the end of the day if the customer says the product broke or the product didn’t arrive, what does the business do?” Paterson said.

“If they refuse to refund, they may be said to be in breach of the law, and they may also get bad reviews online which can be a killer for a business.”

She urged small business owners to educate themselves on AI and the red flags to look out for.

Foord echoed that message in a social media video she posted, warning other Aussies to watch out for this new type of fraud.

It has already received nearly 300,000 combined views across Instagram and TikTok.

”I just wanted to raise awareness that there’s people out there that are unfortunately doing this,” Foord said.

“There’s people out there that have probably gotten away with it as well, and think they can get away with it again.”

JD Vance’s Urgent Midnight Mission: Crafting a Critical Iran Peace Agreement

0

In a dramatic eleventh-hour effort, JD Vance spearheaded an initiative to finalize a peace agreement with Iran after Donald Trump issued a stern warning of impending conflict, with a crucial deadline looming on Tuesday.

Vance, alongside other American diplomats, advocated for an immediate halt to hostilities and proposed additional discussions within a 15 to 20-day period during negotiations on Sunday night, facilitated by Pakistan, according to Reuters.

Trump’s ultimatum included threats to target Iranian civilian infrastructure if a deal was not reached by 8 PM Eastern Time on Tuesday.

However, the negotiated plan, which does not guarantee the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, still awaits the President’s endorsement, a White House official disclosed.

The peace proposal was orchestrated through discreet discussions led by Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, involving Vance and Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, while Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi represented Tehran’s interests.

Trump is due to address the nation from the White House at 1pm ET on the rescue mission that brought home the F-15 weapons officer from the mountains of Iran.

The President’s new deadline sparked cautious volatility in early trading, with oil prices dipping slightly but still holding well above $100 per barrel.

The national average for gas has surged to around $4.10 a gallon, up more than a dollar since the start of the conflict.

Iran’s foreign ministry said Tehran had formulated positions and demands based on its interests and communicated them through intermediaries, in response to ceasefire proposals.

A second regime official said the negotiations were ‘incompatible with ultimatums and threats to commit war crimes.’

Meanwhile, a senior Iranian source told Reuters that the regime would not reopen the Strait of Hormuz as part of a temporary ceasefire.

Iran would not accept Trump’s pressure and deadlines to reach a deal, the source added.

Tehran is demanding the removal of US sanctions and trade restrictions, while the Trump administration is insisting the regime fully end uranium enrichment and halt all nuclear development.

Iranian officials fear any future deal could mirror past ceasefires in Gaza or Lebanon, where agreements exist on paper but still allow US and Israeli forces to strike at will, Axios reported.

Over the weekend, US special operations forces rescued the second of two crew members from a downed F-15 jet that had been shot down over southern Iran on Friday.

Trump announced Sunday morning that it was ‘one of the most daring’ rescue operations in US history, adding that no casualties had been sustained.

The President confirmed the officer is ‘now safe and sound’ but added he had been ‘seriously wounded’.

He spent more than 24 hours on his own, hiding in the mountains and even hiking up a 7,000ft ridgeline as he evaded capture by the Iranians.

The CIA tracked the airman and gave his exact location to the Pentagon, even launching a disinformation campaign inside Iran to dupe the enemy into believing that the US was already extracting him.

Dozens of aircraft were flown behind enemy lines to rescue the airman, with some coming under enemy fire and being abandoned at a remote makeshift airfield.

Commandos were finally able to fly out after three additional aircraft were sent.

Explore These 5 Hidden Gem Documentaries Currently Streaming on Netflix

Netflix offers a vast array of documentaries catering to diverse interests. The “Untold” series delves into various sports narratives, including the catfishing saga of Manti Teʻo, while the “Trainwreck” films explore infamous cultural events, such as the attempted storming of Area 51. Documentaries like “Tiger King” and “The Hatchet Wielding Hitchhiker” have captivated audiences, not only for their storytelling but also for their intriguing subjects.

With such a wide selection, it’s easy for some documentaries to remain unnoticed on Netflix. Though these films may not have garnered the widespread acclaim or popularity of more famous documentaries, and some even lack sufficient reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, they still present compelling and essential tales. From the criminal activities on Telegram to the miraculous rescue of children in Colombia, these lesser-known Netflix documentaries deserve attention.

One such hidden gem is “Into the Deep: The Submarine Murder Case,” a Danish documentary that originally set out to profile inventor Peter Madsen, who was renowned for his personal submarine and rocket-building ambitions. The narrative took a dramatic turn when journalist Kim Wall embarked on the submarine with Madsen and failed to return. Initially, with both Madsen and Wall missing, concerns centered around a potential submarine mishap. But when Madsen reappeared without Wall, suspicions began to mount.

This film, which started as a chronicle of engineering prowess, evolves into a riveting crime story. Director Emma Sullivan seamlessly weaves together footage of Madsen recorded prior to Wall’s disappearance and post-event interviews with his team. Initially hesitant, their attitudes shift as Madsen’s inconsistent accounts unfold.

Into the Deep: The Submarine Murder Case

“Into the Deep” was released on Netflix in 2022, following its debut at the Sundance Film Festival two years earlier. The documentary underwent re-editing as certain interviewees requested their removal. Although it might not be classified among the most unsettling true-crime documentaries, “Into the Deep: The Submarine Murder Case” has received critical acclaim, achieving a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes.

What began as a movie about engineering and invention turns into a gripping crime documentary. Director Emma Sullivan expertly moves back and forth between footage of Madsen captured before Wall’s disappearance, and the aftermath consisting of interviews with Madsen’s employees. Their opinion steadily changes, though there’s initially apprehension as to what happened due to the ever-changing nature of Madsen’s stories.

“Into the Deep” released on Netflix in 2022, two years after its Sundance Film Festival debut. The documentary required some re-editing, as some individuals who were interviewed later wanted their likeness removed. Even it isn’t among the most disturbing true crime documentaries of all time, “Into the Deep: The Submarine Murder Case” is nevertheless an acclaimed effort, boasting a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Biggest Heist Ever

There have been plenty of documentaries about the bitcoin boom, but “Biggest Heist Ever” shows a different side to the cryptocurrency market. Dubbed the “Bonnie and Clyde of bitcoin,” Heather “Razzlekhan” Morgan and Ilya Lichtenstein were arrested for stealing bitcoin with the intent to launder the money.

“Biggest Heist Ever” gives an inside look into the pair’s life, and how, despite having successful tech careers, they had bigger aspirations. They’re multi-faceted people and not what you might picture when you think of someone hacking into a bitcoin exchange. The story feels outlandish, but also rooted in a reality that feels in line with the lengths people are willing to go to in today’s world — and it’s because you get to know Morgan and Lichtenstein as people.

While the case made headlines at the time, the project itself didn’t receive much fanfare. Like some other underrated documentaries, it does not have a Rotten Tomatoes score. Nevertheless, critics highlighted how well-rounded the documentary captured Morgan and Lichtenstein’s lives. “Heather’s rapper alter ego and outlandish social media content make the pair seem like extremely unlikely criminals,” Tyler Doupe’ wrote for Dread Central. “But the more we learn about each of them, the more things fall into place.”

Cyber Hell: Exposing an Internet Horror

“Cyber Hell: Exposing an Internet Horror” explores the investigation of “Nth rooms” on Telegram by journalists in South Korea. Led by online user Godgod, the “Nth rooms” consisted of eight Telegram chat rooms where explicit content from young women and girls was sold to users in a subscription model. The documentary chronicles the case and the legal aftermath that followed.

“Cyber Hell” focuses on how the sexual exploitation of women continues online, with victims being tricked into chat rooms to gather their personal information and then extorted into sending explicit content under the guise of helping their modeling careers. It shows how easily people can be tricked, even in a world that preaches internet safety — but also how abusers will go to any means necessary to exploit their victims.

With an 83% on Rotten Tomatoes, “Cyber Hell” is a distressing documentary not because of its content, but because how often these scenarios happen. “This control and oppression of women is sadly nothing new and is something that will continue as the threat to women is still widespread and extreme,” Romey Norton wrote for Ready Steady Cut, calling the movie “an interesting and frustrating watch.”

Con Mum

Chef Graham Hornigold believes he has unlocked a part of his past when someone claiming to be his biological mother reaches out via email. What starts is extravagant love bombing in the form of luxury cars and trips, only for the mother to reveal a terminal cancer diagnosis and begin requesting money from her son.

“Con Mum” is the ultimate email scam. While we’re often told to watch out for predators in our inbox, you wouldn’t think someone would reach out pretending to be your parent. In an era where its easier to access your genetic family tree than ever, it seems pointless to try. What’s even worse is when you realize the scam is happening, but find out that its much darker than you imagined. The third act twist takes the documentary from a simple film about scamming in the 21st century to a story about family, trust, and emotional manipulation.

“Con Mum” received praise for how well the project depicts the scam’s damage on Hornigold’s life, and how heartbroken it leaves audiences feeling.

The Lost Children

In 2023, a small plane crashed in the Colombian jungles. Four children, the oldest being 13, survived, while all three adults died, leaving them alone. “The Lost Children” follows the search for the kids, who were successfully rescued after 40 days, and the cooperation it required.

Many different searches were happening at the same time for the children. The Colombian military began looking for the plane after receiving a distress call from the pilot. Local Indigenous peoples and other volunteers joined the search, despite the general uneasiness of working with the military because of the country’s political climate. While the military had more resources and trained personnel, the Indigenous peoples were more familiar with the land, and their combined knowledge helped save the kids.

“The Lost Children” shows the importance of working together for the greater good, especially when, after the wreckage was found, the children weren’t there. Critics have praised the strength of this theme. The Guardian’s Cath Clarke wrote that the documentary “is a valuable reminder about the power of coming together,” calling it “an extraordinary story.”
