0

Catherine, the Princess of Wales, has expressed a profound sentiment about the connection between humanity and the natural world, suggesting that nature has the power to remind us of our rightful place within it. Her reflections came on a significant occasion—Earth Day, celebrated on April 22, 2026.

In a rare and personal gesture, the 44-year-old royal shared her thoughts on Instagram, marking Earth Day with a heartfelt message. Accompanying her words were five evocative landscape images from her ongoing Mother Nature video series, which has been gradually unveiled on YouTube over the past year. This series has captivated audiences with its stunning visuals and poignant messages about environmental stewardship.

In her post, signed with a simple ‘C’ to signify her personal authorship, Catherine wrote: “When we listen to the rhythms of Mother Nature, we remember where we belong.” Her statement, concise yet meaningful, underscores the importance of tuning into the natural world, especially on a day dedicated to raising awareness about environmental issues.

The Princess of Wales’ message resonates deeply in a time when many are seeking a deeper connection with the environment. By sharing her thoughts on Earth Day, Catherine not only highlights the significance of the day but also encourages a collective reflection on our relationship with the planet.

The most recent Mother Nature video, Winter, was added to Catherine and her husband Prince William’s YouTube account in January to mark the princess’ 44th birthday.

The video followed the royal – who revealed in January 2025 she was in remission following a course of preventative chemotherapy after she was found to have cancer following abdominal surgery – on an early morning walk in Berkshire as she explained the benefits of the natural world to viewers through a voiceover.

In a voiceover for the film Winter, Catherine said: “Even in the coldest, darkest season, winter has a way of bringing us stillness, patience and quiet consideration.

“Where the stream slows just enough for us to see our own reflection.

“To discover the deepest parts of ourselves. Alongside the whispers in the pulse of every living thing.

“I find myself reflecting on how deeply grateful I am.

“For the rivers within us flow with ease, fears washed away, cleanse and purify. Come to peace with our tears and discover what it means to be alive.

“To be at one with nature; a quiet teacher and a soft voice that guides.

“In memory. Helping us to heal.”

The video was released on William and Catherine’s social media channels instead of an official birthday portrait.

The princess posted a message accompanying the video: “The Mother Nature series has been a deeply personal, creative reflection on how nature has helped me heal. But it is also a story about the power of nature and creativity in collective healing.

“There is so much we can learn from mother nature, as we look to build a happier, healthier world. C.”

FBI Conducts Raid on Cole Allen’s Home Near Los Angeles, Suspected in White House Correspondents’ Dinner Shooting

0

TORRANCE, California — In a dramatic turn of events late Saturday, the FBI executed a raid on the residence of Cole Allen, the individual suspected of disrupting the White House Correspondents’ Dinner with gunfire. The typically tranquil suburbs of Los Angeles were engulfed in tension as law enforcement descended on the scene.

Allen, a 31-year-old who graduated in mechanical engineering from CalTech, allegedly initiated chaos by breaching a security checkpoint and firing a shotgun inside the Washington Hilton during the prestigious annual event. This information comes from sources within law enforcement.

As the night unfolded, a convoy of FBI vehicles, including armored trucks, surrounded Allen’s Torrance home. Agents, dressed in camouflage tactical gear, moved swiftly to secure the area, hours ahead of The Post’s arrival.

According to ABC 7, brief interactions took place between the home’s occupants and the federal agents on the porch. The tense atmosphere was heightened as a spotlight from one of the trucks illuminated the property, primarily the second-floor window overlooking the driveway.

Reports indicate that agents made their initial entry into the residence just before midnight, marking a crucial step in the ongoing investigation.

The highly anticipated White House Correspondents’ Dinner, the first Trump has attended as president, came to a screeching halt when a gunman cut past security and opened fire mere steps away from the packed ballroom.

The president and first lady Melania Trump were rushed out of the room by security — followed by Vice President JD Vance and a slew of other top officials.

Trump later shared pictures of Allen, shirtless and subdued while officers pinned him to the floor, on TruthSocial.

While Allen wasn’t formally identified as the suspect during Saturday’s press conference, Trump did repeatedly note that the “sick” gunman hailed from California.

Sources told ABC 7 that Allen apparently trekked from Los Angeles, just outside of his hometown, to Chicago before heading to Washington, DC.

Neighbor Jeff Smith said he met Allen one time.

“The one interaction I had was like, maybe he could be on the spectrum,” he said.

Widow of Titan Submersible Tragedy Reveals Husband and Son’s Remains Returned in Small Containers

0

Three years following the tragic Titan Submersible incident, Christine Dawood recalls the poignant moment when her husband and son’s remains were returned to her after a lengthy nine-month wait. She described receiving their remains in modest boxes, reminiscent of “shoeboxes.”

In an interview with the Guardian, Dawood recounted the somber experience, stating, “It took nine months for us to get them back. And when I say bodies, it’s more about the remnants. They arrived in two small boxes, like shoeboxes.”

She further explained that there was little left to be recovered of her husband, Shahzada Dawood, 48, and their 19-year-old son, Suleman, from London, following the catastrophic implosion.

“They have a large collection of indistinguishable DNA, all jumbled together, and they offered if I wanted some of that, too. I declined, opting only for what is assuredly Suleman and Shahzada,” she shared.

Shahzada and Suleman were among five individuals who perished, including OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, businessman Hamish Harding, and Titanic authority Paul-Henri Nargeolet, when the submersible suffered a fatal implosion during its descent to the Titanic wreckage in the North Atlantic on June 18, 2023.

Dawood told the Guardian she remembers the last time she saw her husband and son that morning they got in the submersible as she battled seasickness aboard the ship that took them out to where they descended.

“Suleman had his Rubik’s Cube, because he was planning to get the record for solving it at the deepest depth ever,” she remembered. “And we were giggling, because Shahzada is clumsy and when he was going down the stairs he was wobbling a bit. I waved. And that was it. They got into a dinghy and sped off. It went very fast, the goodbye.”

A few hours later in the ship’s dining room, Dawood heard someone say: “They’ve lost communications.”

When they realized she overheard, the person added: “’Don’t worry, it’s not unusual.’ In that moment, what am I supposed to do? I felt trapped on that ship and I had no choice but to trust what they told me.”

She said she tried to keep her anxiety at bay, telling herself, “they were stuck” in the submersible.

“But I was worried. Suleman is not … well, both my men, they’re not very good at being in the dark, and I knew it would be a very different darkness down there. Nothing. You literally can’t see a thing,” she said.

She said everyone on the ship was in complete denial.

“The crew were [acting] like nothing was happening,” she said, saying the crew suggested it would just take time for the crew to be found unharmed.

“It did cross my mind that OceanGate had ulterior motivations about what they told us,” she added. “They were just trying to avoid the truth. But I would have deteriorated a lot quicker without hope.”

As they waited, she said the crew scheduled jamming sessions and movies to pass the time.

“Ultimately, I think they wanted to distract people, keep everyone occupied,” she said. “They wanted everyone onside, not to feed anything to the press. But jamming sessions? Am I really going to sit there and sing Kumbaya? I did try to give a movie a go, but when I got there it felt like an act of betrayal. Watching ‘Wayne’s World’ while they are trapped in the dark did not sit well with me.”

After an extensive search, the remains of the submersible were found on the ocean floor.

The U.S. Coast Guard called it a “catastrophic implosion.”

“My first thought was, thank God,” Dawood said. “When they said catastrophic, I knew Shahzada and Suleman didn’t even know about it. One moment they were there and the next they weren’t. Knowing they didn’t suffer has been so important. They’re gone, but the way they went does somehow make it easier.”

Once she knew they were gone, Dawood said she had to deal with the practical details.

“What was I going to do with their stuff?” she said. “Their bags? Shahzada’s clothes and things were in my cabin, so I packed his bags. But I didn’t pack Suleman’s. I couldn’t. Someone else did that.”

Last year, the Coast Guard released a report, calling the implosion a “preventable tragedy,” blaming OceanGate’s culture of avoiding regulating and “negligence” on safety.

“From the beginning, I had a lot of reasons to hate Stockton, but does that really help me?” Dawood said. “He died with them. If I’m angry with him, I’m giving him power, and I refuse to do that. I’m sure people will say I’m naive, but if I start to analyse every single thing, where does that lead me? So, I choose my own … not happiness but … I choose me, every day. If I don’t, I wouldn’t be here. I would have killed myself, for sure.”

She added that she tries to give her grief “attention.”

“So I go into Suleman’s room. Sometimes I find the cat sleeping on his pillow and I sit on the bed and let the grief come,” she admitted. “And after a while I can put the grief away until the next time it gets too much. I’ve worked a lot on my grief for Suleman, but I’m only now starting to grieve for my husband. Publicly they are always put together, but they are two different relationships. Two very different pains.”

Cole Tomas Allen Faces Charges Following White House Correspondents’ Dinner Incident

0

Authorities have announced that Cole Tomas Allen, the suspected gunman at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, is now confronting multiple charges.

Allen, who is 31 years old, allegedly fired shots during the high-profile gathering, which included the President, key cabinet members, and a large contingent of journalists, on Saturday evening.

The Washington Hilton was the venue for the annual dinner, which had just commenced when the Secret Service was compelled to respond swiftly to the gunfire.

Officials reported that the suspect was detained after bypassing a security barrier and engaging in a gunfight with law enforcement officers.

Allen has been identified as a teacher from Torrance, California, according to the authorities.

Federal prosecutors have moved quickly and already announced he is being charged with two counts of using a firearm during a crime of violence and assault on a federal officer using a dangerous weapon.

He is expected to be arraigned in federal court on Monday.

If convicted, Allen could face 20 years in jail for the assault, while the weapons charges come with a minimum of ten years with a possibility of life behind bars if fired.

‘It is clear, based upon what we know so far, this individual was intent on doing as much harm and as much damage as he could,’ United States Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro said, adding that ‘there will be many more charges based upon the information that we are learning in this very fluid situation.’

Cops swarmed on Allen’s parents’ $877,000 home on Saturday night shortly after he was arrested.

Despite the scale of the attack, officials say Allen had no prior criminal record and was not previously known to law enforcement in Washington, DC.

He is one of four siblings, including two sisters, Stephanie and Arviana, and a brother, Gabriel, according to publicly available information.

Photographs circulating online show him smiling alongside family members at graduations and gatherings.

His social media details he is highly educated and academically accomplished.

On LinkedIn, he describes himself as: ‘A mechanical engineer and computer scientist by degree, independent game developer by experience, teacher by birth.’

Allen earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology and later a Master of Science in Computer Science from a California State University.

During his time at Caltech, Allen listed his involvement in the Caltech Christian Fellowship and the Caltech Nerf Club.

More recently, Allen had been working in education. In December 2024, he was named Teacher of the Month at C2 Education, a recognition typically reserved for standout instructors.

It is a far cry from the violence which prosecutors say he unleashed in a DC hotel lobby on Saturday.

Authorities say Allen, armed with a shotgun, a handgun and multiple knives, charged toward the ballroom before being stopped.

Interim Chief of Police of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Jeffrey Carroll said the suspect was ‘tackled to the ground’ and handcuffed by law enforcement after exchanging gunfire with officers.

One officer was struck in his bulletproof vest and is expected to recover.

Carroll confirmed Allen was not hit by gunfire during the confrontation but he was taken to the hospital for an evaluation.

Investigators believe Allen was staying at the hotel where the dinner was being held.

‘So preliminary information, we do believe he was a guest here at the hotel. We have secured a room here in the hotel, and again, we’ll go through the appropriate procedures to determine what was inside there,’ Carroll said.

Inside the ballroom, hundreds of guests dove under tables as shots rang out nearby.

‘When you’re impactful, they go after you. When you’re not impactful, they leave you alone,’ Trump said hours later, describing the suspect as a ‘lone wolf’ and a ‘sick person.’

Authorities have said they have ‘no reason’ to believe anyone else was involved and have not identified any motive yet.

The charges already filed carry significant penalties and officials have made clear they are only the beginning.

Officials say Allen never breached the ballroom itself, crediting the rapid response of Secret Service and law enforcement for preventing what could have been a far more devastating outcome.

‘You saw the very worst by the actions of that coward, but you also saw the very best because you saw law enforcement do exactly what they’re supposed to do,’ Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said. ‘I promise you justice will be served.’

Dianne Buswell Reveals Pronunciation of Unique Name for First Child with Joe Sugg

On Wednesday, Dianne Buswell, star of Strictly Come Dancing, took to Instagram to clarify the pronunciation of her newborn son’s distinctive name. This announcement follows the birth of her first child with partner Joe Sugg.

The duo, who first crossed paths on the set of the BBC show in 2018, joyfully revealed the arrival of their baby boy, named Bowden. The child’s middle names are thoughtful tributes, honoring Dianne’s cherished father, Mark, and Joe’s late grandfather, Richard, who passed away in 2021.

Later that day, Dianne used her Instagram Stories to provide fans with the correct pronunciation of her son’s name. She accompanied the explanation with a touching photo of herself holding the infant’s tiny hand.

“Bowden Sugg,” she wrote, clarifying, “(Pronounced Bow like How, not Bow like Row… hopefully that makes sense).”

To share the joyous news of Bowden’s birth, Dianne posted an endearing photograph of her cuddling her newborn, along with a snapshot capturing the heartfelt moment she and Joe brought their baby home from the hospital.

She captioned the post: ‘Never felt a love like it. Baby Bowden Mark Richard Sugg. 16/03/26.’

Amy Dowden added: ‘Utter perfection. So happy for you both, welcome baby Bowden! I can’t wait for cwtches xxxx.’

‘OMG!! Congrats to you both!!!’ Gorka Marquez posted.

Fleur East posted: ‘Ahhhh he’s here! Congratulations to both of you.’

Dianne shared her joyful pregnancy news on Instagram back in September ahead of the latest series of Strictly Come Dancing.

She was the first professional in Strictly’s history to compete while pregnant, before her partner Stefan Dennis was forced to pull out due to injury in 2025.

For their pregnancy reveal video, poignantly set to Elton John’s Tiny Dancer, Dianne and Joe set up an easel and pretended to paint a picture together, with playful dramatics.

They then picked up the canvas to display it to the camera, revealing a drawing of two stickmen – one with Dianne’s signature flaming red hair – holding hands with a baby.

But taking to Instagram hours later, Dianne revealed how to pronounce her little boy's name: 'Bowden Sugg (Pronounced Bow like How not Bow like Row... hopefully that makes sense)'

The couple added that their first child was due in 2026 and even revealed the sex of their little one, declaring they were expecting a son.

Joe captioned the clip: ‘Our little baby boy ❤️ we cannot wait to meet you.’

The couple were flooded with congratulatory comments from friends and fans, with their fellow Strictly stars leading the well-wishes.

Dianne hinted that the birth of their baby son was imminent in February in a sweet update.

She created a video montage of her and her partner Joe Sugg’s items and then added miniature versions.

Dianne said ‘now we wait’ after showing she was ready for the birth with tiny clothes, shoes and even a Strictly-themed onesie ready for the baby.

She captioned the Instagram post: ‘When 2 will soon become 3 the last one!’

Joe and Dianne struck up a romance when they were paired together during the sixteenth series of Strictly Come Dancing in 2018.

Strictly bosses reportedly put contingency plans in place for Dianne as she became the first pregnant star to compete in the competition last year.

With the baby due in early 2026 and the Strictly final in December 2025, she could have potentially been dancing right up until her due date, forcing bosses to ensure they had a back up plan.

A source told The Sun: ‘Producers have plans in place, and there are several pros who could easily step in and take over at a moment’s notice, because the show must go on.

‘The BBC’s primary concern is the health and wellbeing of Dianne and they fully intend to support her through the process with regular check-ins from the welfare team.’

Meanwhile a Strictly source told Daily Mail: ‘This story makes something out of nothing – the plans described have long existed for everyone, and it’s misleading to claim otherwise.’

Dianne competed on last year’s series alongside fellow Aussie, Neighbours actor Stefan Dennis, but the duo were forced to withdraw after he sustained an injury.

The rumour mill was quickly flooded with people speculating that Stefan’s injury was in fact a cover-up and that Dianne’s pregnancy was the reason for their withdrawal.

But Dianne rushed to Instagram to squash the rumours, penning: ‘Just to clarify as I have had lots of people msg me thinking this is a cover up for me being not able to dance!?

‘Firstly we wouldn’t lie especially about somebody being sick! And secondly I am fine, yes I am pregnant but I’m also very capable and feeling really good!’

She also explained that there are protocols in place regarding the professionals sickness as she added: ‘Thirdly there are things in place if any pro were to get sick or injured.’

Dianne made lots of hints towards their baby plans in the months leading up to their pregnancy announcement, admitting in May that she was desperate to become a mum.

But the star, who won the Glitterball Trophy with partner Chris McCausland in 2024, explained that the gruelling demands of her showbiz career had put their family plans on hold.

She told The Sun: ‘I would like to have children, 100 per cent. Joe and I love kids, and that’s definitely something that we would absolutely love. I haven’t really thought about how many I would like. It will definitely happen.’

Authorities Confirm Lone Suspect in Incident at White House Correspondents’ Dinner

0

WASHINGTON — Saturday night took a dramatic turn when a man, heavily armed with a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives, breached the lobby outside the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner. The high-profile event, attended by President Donald Trump and various United States leaders, quickly became the focal point of a significant security incident.

Interim Chief Jeffery Carroll of the Metropolitan Police Department reported that the assailant managed to sprint through security, subsequently firing shots in close proximity to the gathering. This alarming breach prompted the Secret Service to swiftly evacuate the president and other dignitaries, ensuring their safety amidst the chaos.

Authorities have since identified the suspect as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen from Torrance, California. According to two law enforcement officials speaking with The Associated Press, it appears Allen acted alone in this brazen attack.

With the suspect now in custody, investigations are underway to determine the motives behind his actions and how he managed to bypass security measures. As the situation unfolds, it underscores the ongoing challenges in maintaining security at events of this magnitude.

The shooting suspect was identified as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen of Torrance, California, two law enforcement officials told The Associated Press.

Police said they “exchanged gunfire” with the suspect, but he was not hit. D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said the suspect was in the hospital but did not provide a status on his condition overnight.

Trump posted a surveillance video of the incident and multiple images of the suspected shooter on social media.

During a press conference back at the White House, the president identified the gunman as a man from California, who had been “captured.” He said officials believe the man acted as a “lone wolf.”

Interim Chief of Police of the Metropolitan Police Department Jeffery W. Carroll said Allen was armed with a shotgun, handgun and multiple knives. He said preliminary evidence shows the suspect was a guest at the hotel where the dinner was being held.

While the investigation is still underway, police say they believe he was the only suspect in this incident and there is no danger to public at this time.

Authorities said he was “not known” to them before the shooting.

Social media posts that appear to match the California man arrested Saturday in the shooting at the White House correspondents’ dinner show he is a highly educated tutor and amateur video game developer.

FBI agents were spotted leaving the scene outside a home linked to the suspected gunman in Torrance, which is a Los Angeles suburb, CNN reported.

A police perimeter was established and a large number of media and law enforcement, as well as onlookers, gathered in the area.

A U.S. Secret Service officer wearing protective gear was shot during the incident but has since been released from the hospital, according to the agency’s chief of communications.

Allen is expected to be arraigned in court on Monday. He faces at least two charges, according to U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro: using a firearm during a crime of violence and assault on a federal officer using a dangerous weapon.

Allen could face additional charges.

No motive was identified in the hours following the incident, according to investigators.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Prepare for a Summer Sunday: Find Out When Storms Will Arrive!

ORLANDO, Fla. – Central Florida is set to experience a swift change in weather over the coming days, featuring storms, a short-lived cool period, and a quick return to summer-like temperatures.

On Sunday, expect warm conditions as afternoon storms are predicted to develop later in the day. A weak cold front moving in from the north will interact with sea breezes, leading to scattered thunderstorms, particularly around sunset. The highest likelihood of storms will occur between the I-4 and I-95 corridors.

Some of these storms may become severe, bringing frequent lightning, brief heavy downpours, and wind gusts ranging from 45 to 55 mph. Before the storms hit, temperatures are anticipated to reach the upper 80s.

MONDAY

By Monday morning, a shift in winds to the northeast will occur as the cold front passes through. Although the front will not bring significant rain, a few brief showers may pop up. Temperatures will cool slightly, with highs ranging from the low to mid-80s.

The cooldown does not last long. By midweek, high pressure builds back in, bringing dry conditions and a noticeable jump in temperatures. Inland areas have a strong chance of reaching the low 90s by Wednesday, with that heat continuing into late week.

WEEK OUTLOOK

Looking ahead, another front could linger, bringing a few spotty showers. For now, the big story will be the heat as temperatures are expected to climb into the lower 90s.

Uncovering the Truth: How ‘Love Detectives’ Helped Sergio Unmask Infidelity

0

Content Advisory: This article discusses gender-based violence.

Catch the latest episode of Dateline, titled “Peru’s Love Cheats,” airing on Tuesday, April 28, at 9:30 PM AEST on SBS and SBS On Demand.

In the bustling heart of Lima, Peru’s capital, Sergio (a pseudonym to protect his identity) finds himself staring at a cheque for US$20,000, a sum that will officially mark the end of his marriage. The path to this moment was unexpected, and a private detective agency played a pivotal role in reaching this resolution.

The year was 2024, and after sharing 14 years with his wife and raising two young children together, Sergio returned from work one day to discover his personal belongings strewn across the street.

“You always believe that your marriage will last forever,” the 37-year-old confided to Dateline, reflecting on the shocking turn of events that led to his impending divorce.

“I think that’s why you get married, not only in my country, but in many countries in Latin America. It’s about giving everything, and when I say everything, I mean everything.”

Sergio doesn’t want to use his real name due to the stigma associated with divorce in Peru, which he says could impact his career.

He says after talks to repair his relationship failed, he contacted divorce lawyers. Reviewing his case, they immediately suggested the unthinkable was to blame: that his wife had been unfaithful.

“I didn’t believe it. Not from her, because she’s from a small town, with many traditions and a strong Christian culture. I even met her in a religious prayer group,” Sergio said.

To get to the truth and facilitate divorce proceedings, Sergio says his lawyers recommended something unusual: that he hire private detectives to investigate. It didn’t take them long to prove his fears were true, giving him photos, videos and audio recordings that established the affair.

“The evidence was sufficient to declare it infidelity,” Sergio said.

“One of the hardest things was that I recognised the (man’s) voice and it was my best friend.”

Sergio is among a growing number of Peruvians turning to private detectives to investigate their partners for suspected infidelity, as divorce rates in this deeply Catholic country steadily rise.

Australia has ‘no fault’ divorce, meaning neither party has to prove wrongdoing to end a marriage. In Peru, if infidelity is established, it can impact the division of a couple’s assets, as well as custody of children. It’s also a valid ground for filing an annulment or divorce case

Historically, adultery was considered a crime in Peru. Legislation dating back to the 1920s allowed for people to be sentenced for up to six months in prison if they were found to be unfaithful. In 1991, it was removed from the criminal code, but is still considered grounds for divorce

In a nondescript building in Lima, behind a security gate and cameras, Liz Rodriguez runs The Female Fenix (Phoenix) Squad — a private detective agency that advertises as experts in exposing cheaters in the act.

Rodriguez says nearly 90 per cent of her squad’s cases centre on infidelity.

“We have between seven and eight new cases per week and sometimes every day,” Rodriguez said.

A lawyer and registered private investigator, she works with a team of around 20 field agents, mostly women, who go undercover to conduct surveillance and monitor their client’s spouses to gather evidence of infidelity.

The team uses hidden cameras and audio recording devices, as well as disguises; anything from simple wigs and caps to occupational uniforms such as a Lima City municipal worker, mechanic, nurse or doctor.

“Each team has four people, including two patrol cars, a motorcycle officer, three or four female investigators who can follow the person into places like workplaces, nightclubs, hotels or restaurants,” Rodriguez explained.

She said demand for her squad’s services — and other agencies like them — has grown considerably in recent years in line with the rate of divorce in Peru.

“Most people get married and within a year they’re already wanting a divorce, looking for reasons, and one of those reasons is infidelity or dishonourable conduct,” she said.

A husband or wife can sue for damages (psychological pain and suffering) against the offending spouse and the third party involved.

“That’s why we’re in high demand,” Rodriguez said.

“It helps the person know the truth and gives them solid evidence for a legal process.”

She described her work as “a community service”.

Rise in infidelity and divorce

A traditionally Catholic country, Peru is in a state of flux, marked by decades of political and social upheaval.

In February, the nation’s interim president Jose Jeri was ousted after just four months in the job, becoming the latest in a list of Peruvian presidents to be removed from office before completing their terms. This follows the removal of former president Dina Boluarte in October last year which triggered widespread protests.

This institutional instability extends into relationships and dating.

In 2025, the country registered 10,136 divorces, 13 per cent more than in 2024, according to the latest figures released by the Peruvian National Superintendency of Public Registries.

The government says infidelity is among the main causes.

The widespread use of mobile devices, social media and apps has also generated new forms of communication that are being leveraged by people who decide to cheat on their partners.

Stigma associated with infidelity can make it hard to get accurate statistics, but a 2023 online survey conducted by data gathering platform Statista suggests more than 70 per cent of Peruvian men and 60 per cent of Peruvian women have been unfaithful to their partner, whether online or in person.

Liz Rodriguez from the Fenix Squad also attributes the country’s high rate of infidelity to shifts in gender equality, with Peruvian women achieving greater access to education and employment in recent years.

She says around 70 per cent of infidelity cases investigated by the Female Fenix Squad are brought by male clients who are concerned about potentially cheating wives.

“Women in Peru are more independent, more empowered. So, if they see something they don’t like, they decide to divorce or commit infidelity; they also have more opportunities to do so. And they also have access to social media, right? So all of that contributes,” Rodriguez said.

The ‘peasant patrols’ policing infidelity

Despite infidelity being increasingly accepted in the capital city, it’s a different story in Peru’s northern highlands. Here, it remains a punishable offence, enforced by indigenous ‘peasant patrols’, or ‘rondas campesinas’, autonomous groups initially formed in the 1970s, legally recognised by Peru’s government.

In Cajamarca, a city of around 300,000 people, the ronda campesina regularly issue public whippings against cheaters. In late 2025, a video of one such punishment went viral.

The peasant patrol’s traditional whip, known as ‘la vinza’, is made from a bull’s penis that is dried, soaked, then braided.

“It hurts a lot. It even … breaks the skin,” said Fernando Chuquilin Ramos, the leader of Cajamarca’s patrol.

Peasant patrols are legally authorised to resolve local disputes and issue justice, often in the absence of state police.

Ramos said that if unfaithful spouses aren’t punished by the ronderos, they can face beatings from their families instead.

“To appease the spouse’s anger, they must be punished … here in the community patrol, transgressions are punished. We don’t let them slide.”

Ramos says infidelity is devastating his community, often contributing to the country’s soaring rates of domestic violence and femicide.

“From our point of view, seeing the reality, it’s more serious than people think. Because it can end in death,” Ramos said.

“What happens as a result, if the woman is unfaithful? Sometimes the husband goes as far as beating her and killing her. There was a case here in Cajamarca where a man found out about the cheating. He found his wife in a nightclub, I think. He beat her to death with bricks in the street. Now he’s been sentenced.”

Since 2015, at least 1,345 women have been killed by their partners or family in Peru, with 154 cases of femicide registered in 2024 alone, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI). This is equivalent to a rate of one femicide for every 100,000 women.

Around 37 per cent of femicide cases in Peru reportedly stem from jealousy, according to a 2024 study by the INEI, followed by family violence at 17.5 per cent, and refusal to return to or continue a relationship at 12.9 per cent.

Ramos says women can also be the perpetrator of violence too.

“That happened in the province of Chota. She cut off his penis. Now the woman’s [serving] life in prison,” he said.

Exposing cheaters on TV

Back in the capital Lima, others are using less traditional means to confront infidelity, instead by bringing it to the nation’s attention.

Every night, 62-year-old journalist, presenter and entertainer, Magaly Medina, fronts the show Magaly Teve. This popular entertainment and celebrity gossip show broadcasts paparazzi-style exposes of celebrity cheaters — catching anyone from football stars to presidents.

Known as ‘ampays’ — or ‘gotchas’ — they’re made by her team of videographers, nicknamed magpies, who catch cheating couples red-handed, drawing millions of viewers.

“[Magaly Teve] is like an act of rebellion against the way I was brought up,” explained Medina.

She hopes to make infidelity less taboo while holding men to account.

“I was taught by my mother: ‘It doesn’t matter what your father does. He can have many women. But I am the cathedral and the others are the little parishes’. That was a very common saying among our grandmothers and mothers.”

“For me, as a modern woman, that seems humiliating for any woman, knowing that your husband has other women in his life, and doing nothing about it.”

Why This Boxing Icon Rejected Offers from Two Major TV Shows: A Surprising Revelation

Boxing icon Amir Khan recently disclosed that he declined invitations to join two popular television programs, as approached by BBC executives.

The 38-year-old boxer, who previously competed in the 2017 edition of “I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!”, was considered for “Strictly Come Dancing” and “Celebrity MasterChef” last year. Despite the enticing opportunities, Khan ultimately opted to pass on both.

In a conversation with Betway, he shared, “I’ve been offered a spot on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, so that’s something I might consider in the future.”

He further explained, “I received an invitation for ‘Celebrity MasterChef’ recently, but the filming schedule didn’t align with my commitments this year.”

Amir Khan added that he remains open to participating in these shows down the line, provided the timing suits his schedule.

He explained: ‘There are a lot of shows but it’s hard to get the time.’

He also admitted that he enjoys taking part in television shows because they allow people to see the ‘real him’.

However, Amir emphasized that he is selective and will only participate in ‘top shows’.

Despite his willingness to appear on more programs, the boxer isn’t desperate for the paycheck.

In December, Amir, who currently resides in Dubai, shared that he had bought yet another luxurious property, posting on Instagram: ‘God is great – another property added to my portfolio. Suffer, invest, profit.’

He added: ‘All my investments are cash paid. Never been in debt.’

Last year, Amir also splashed out over £130,000 on a new G-Wagon for his wife, Faryal Makhdoom, after being embroiled in yet another sexting scandal.

MailOnline revealed last year that Amir and Faryal had reportedly separated and were living apart after he was caught sexting another woman.

Their marriage, which has spanned a decade and produced three children, appeared to be on the rocks after Amir approached bridal model Sumaira online and asked her to send explicit pictures.

At the time, it was reported that Amir and Faryal were splitting their time between their homes in Dubai and Britain while Faryal decided whether to end their marriage.

A source close to the Khan family told MailOnline at the time: ‘Faryal is taking time to think about whether or not to walk away.’

They added: ‘She’s going through a very difficult time and choosing to focus on her children while she and Amir continue to co-parent.’

MailOnline contacted Amir’s representatives at the time for comment.
