H.H. Holmes was an American serial killer who operated in the late 19th century. Besides, he is often considered one of the first documented serial killers in the United States.

Furthermore, Holmes was best known for his gruesome crimes in Chicago during the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition. His full name was Herman Webster Mudgett, but he was also recognized as Dr. Henry Howard Holmes.

Holmes constructed a hotel in Chicago known as the Murder Castle, which was a multi-story building with secret passages, trapdoors, and soundproof rooms.

He used this building to lure, trap, and murder multiple victims. Many of his victims were young women, and he often took out life insurance policies on them before killing them.

Remembering H.H. Holmes Death

H.H. Holmes was executed by hanging on May 7, 1896. His execution took place at Moyamensing Prison in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Furthermore, Holmes had been convicted of multiple counts of murder and was sentenced to death for his heinous crimes.

Meanwhile, his execution marked the end of one of the darkest chapters in the history of American serial killers. Although several sources said that his kill count surpassed 130, and in some instances, 200, officials only convicted him for the murder of Benjamin Pitezel.

Pitezel, Holmes’ partner, was drugged with chloroform and set on fire by the cunning serial killer. On the day of his execution, reportedly, Holmes did not display any sign of anxiety, fear, or depression. 

In fact, he remained calm and also requested his coffin to be covered by concrete and buried 10 feet deep.

H.H. Holmes Wife: Georgiana Yoke, Myrta Z. Belknap, And Clara A. Lovering

H.H. Holmes was married to Georgiana Yoke in the past. The former duo tied the knot on January 17, 1894. It has been reported that the pair’s marriage ceremony was held in Denver, Colorado.

Georgiana was not the first wife of Holmes as he had multiple marriages in the past. There are not many details about Georgiana, as she mainly kept her matters to herself rather than coming forward in the media.

When Holmes tied the knot with Yoke, he was still married to Clara Lovering and Myrta Belknap. Not to mention, Clara is the first wife of Holmes, with whom he married in 1878.

On the other hand, Myrta was his second wife, and their marriage was held in 1893. Before tying the knot with Georgiana, he wedded Minnie Williams in 1893.

Meet H.H. Holmes Kids Robert Lovering Mudgett & Lucy Theodate Holmes

As said earlier, H.H. Holmes was married multiple times in his life. Not only that, but he was also the father of two kids. His first wife was Clara Lovering.

Together with his first wife, Holmes gave birth to a son named Robert Lovering Mudgett. The duo became parents for the first time after welcoming Robert on February 3, 1880, in Loudon.

Robert later became a certified public accountant and also worked as a city manager in Orlando, Florida. Sadly, he passed away on November 3, 1956.

With his second wife, Myrta Belknap, Holmes became a father for the second time after welcoming a daughter named Lucy Theodate Holmes on July 4, 1889. Lucy worked as a public schoolteacher and died on December 29, 1956.

How did John Gotti and Victoria DiGiorgio meet? 

Before the crime family and before the indictments, John Gotti and Victoria DiGiorgio were just two young New Yorkers who met in a bar. The duo were just 16 and 18 when they fell in love. They dated for four years and married in 1962, at just 20 and 22 years old. 

They had five children together, one of whom died after being hit by a car. DiGiorgio stayed home with the children, while Gotti initially worked legitimate jobs before getting involved in organized crime. When Gotti was sentenced to life in prison, DiGiorgio remained loyal. The couple were married until he died in 2002 from throat cancer.

While DiGiorgio retreated from the limelight in the last decades, she was active and spotted in and around New York City in the years immediately following John Gotti’s death. In 2006, the mob boss’ wife spoke with the Daily News regarding her son and his arrest. She even opened up about the family dynamic and how she felt about her husband’s criminal history.

DiGiorgio told the publication that her son’s arrest on racketeering charges felt like a betrayal. While she and John Gotti remained married until his death in 2002, DiGiorgio wasn’t always thrilled with his life of crime. She told the publication that she mostly raised her children alone because her husband had spent years in prison. Seeing her son move down the same path didn’t please her. She said she would have rather have dealt with Gotti cheating on her than the mob lifestyle that took him away from his family for years at a time. 

John Gotti’s wife has had a series of medical issues in recent years

Victoria DiGiorgio may have opted to stay out of the public eye in recent years due to her health. According to The Daily Mail, the mob boss’ widow suffered a stroke in 2013 that was “very serious.” It wasn’t the first stroke she suffered, either. According to the publication, DiGiorgio had at least two other strokes and had surgery in 2006 to address the source of one medical episode. She was still living in Howard Beach, New York, where she raised her children in 2013. Her current living accommodations are unknown. 

Victoria Gotti, DiGiorgio and Gotti’s daughter, often posts photos of her family to Instagram, including shots of her late father and her mother. Still, she has not posted a recent photo of her mother in many years. Each time she offers a tribute to DiGiorgio, she uses older images. Whether that is a personal choice or at the request of DiGiorgio remains unclear.
