Hollywood A-listers Shine at the Annual Breakthrough Prize Ceremony: Anne Hathaway, Robert Downey Jr., and Margot Robbie Join Forces with Science

Hollywood’s elite gathered in full force for the much-anticipated Breakthrough Prize ceremony, often dubbed the “Oscars of science,” where glamour met groundbreaking innovation on a starry Saturday evening.

The event saw an impressive lineup of celebrities including Anne Hathaway, Robert Downey Jr., Zoe Saldana, Ben Affleck, Paris Hilton, Margot Robbie, Lionel Richie, Michelle Yeoh, Rob Lowe, John Legend, and Chrissy Teigen. Also gracing the red carpet were Jessica Chastain, Christina Aguilera, Gal Gadot, director Ron Howard, and Olivia Wilde, all there to honor the scientific community’s brightest stars.

Anne Hathaway and Olivia Wilde shared a warm embrace on the carpet, engaging in lively conversation as they mingled with other attendees before stepping in front of the cameras.

Paris Hilton, accompanied by her husband, Carter Reum, expressed her excitement to Page Six about celebrating the evening’s honorees and their remarkable achievements.

The ceremony also attracted notable figures such as Naomi Watts, Billy Crudup, model Miranda Kerr, Snapchat co-founder Evan Spiegel, singer Jewel, Oscar Isaac, Lily Collins, Gigi Hadid, Edward Norton, Salma Hayek with her billionaire husband François-Henri Pinault, rocker Adam Levine, director Darren Aronofsky, Michelle Williams, and producer Brian Grazer, among a host of others.

The Breakthrough Prize celebrates the research achievements of the world’s top scientists, and the gala awards more than $15 million in prizes annually. Each Breakthrough Prize is $3 million, and presented in the fields of Life Sciences, Fundamental Physics, and Mathematics.

As for Yeoh, she told reporters she was inspired by the night’s honored scientists and their service to mankind. The “Wicked” star explained she was the most intrigued by artificial intelligence, and still had questions about how it evolved and where it will get us. (We trust she had a chance to ask one of her brainy tablemates.)

“Hello” hitmaker Richie recalled that he (briefly) pondered a life outside of music — telling reporters that if he could study any scientific topic, “It wouldn’t be physics,” he joked. “I like plants. Lots of plants.”

Microsoft billionaire Bill Gates also made an appearance and smiled while making his way down the carpet at Santa Monica’s Barker Hangar, while further tech moguls included Apple’s Tim Cook and OpenAI’s Sam Altman.

Genius chess icon Magnus Carlsen was also spotted, as was Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, OpenAI president Greg Brockman, Waymo’s Tekedra Mawakana, VC whiz Marc Andreessen and Dell CEO Michael Dell.

“Wuthering Heights” star Robbie made a low-key arrival with her husband, producer Tom Ackerley.

Star couple Legend and Tiegen shut down the carpet by arriving fashionably late just in time for the VIP dinner.

The Breakthrough Prize was founded by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan, Sergey Brin, Julia and Yuri Milner and Anne Wojcicki.

Past attendees have included Katy Perry, Lauren Sánchez, Kate Hudson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Drew Barrymore, Lizzo, Will.i.am, Alicia Keys, Jodie Foster and many more.

Winners on Saturday night hailed from UC Berkeley, Stanford University, Princeton University, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Chicago, MIT, NYU, Columbia University, Oxford, Duke, Caltech, the University of California, Santa Barbara, and more.

According to Superintendent Tracy Chapman of NSW Police, a knife has been collected from the scene as evidence.

The 25-year-old was taken to hospital under police guard before he was charged with domestic violence murder.

Immediately after the attack police allege it was actually Blaise Mcintyre who made the triple zero call for help.

They say he wasn’t known to them prior to this incident and had never been called to police for alleged domestic violence.

Rebecca McIntyre’s friends described her to 9News as a beautiful woman who was always so warm and loving.

“She always had a smile” one neighbour said.

Father of Celeste Rivas Speaks Out Following D4vd’s Arrest in Daughter’s Tragic Murder Case

The devastated father of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas, whose body was tragically discovered in the trunk of a Tesla owned by singer D4vd, has spoken out following the artist’s arrest. “Thank God, justice for Celeste,” he told TMZ, expressing relief at the development.

The father, Jesus Rivas, shared his brief remarks after David Burke, known professionally as D4vd, was detained by the Los Angeles Police Department on Thursday. Burke is currently being held without bail on murder charges.

The arrest comes several months after the grim discovery of Celeste’s remains in the front trunk of a Tesla, which had been towed to a Hollywood impound lot. Authorities confirmed that the vehicle was registered to the 21-year-old musician.

Earlier this year, Burke was officially identified as a suspect in Celeste’s murder, according to documents released from grand jury proceedings in Los Angeles County.

Sources close to the investigation revealed that Celeste Rivas was believed to have been romantically involved with Burke at the time of her untimely death, as indicated by statements from her friends and family.

The girl’s family said she was last seen in spring 2024, when ran away from her Lake Elsinore home at age 13.

Rivas’s mother, who reported her missing three different times throughout 2024, has said her daughter was dating a guy she never met named ‘David’. It’s also been reported that the two shared matching ‘Sshhh’ tattoos on their right index fingers.

Friends of D4vd told TMZ that the two were ‘frequently’ seen together. They also believed he and Rivas were romantically involved.

Rivas’s dismembered remains were discovered on September 8, 2025, when workers at Hollywood Tow called police to report a stench coming from a Tesla on their lot. Her head and torso were found in a plastic bag, police said.

The vehicle was registered to D4vd’s address in Texas, police said. According to investigators, the car had been abandoned on a public street for more than 72 hours, leading to it being impounded.

Neighbors said the Tesla was moved several times over the preceding three months before it was left on Bluebird Avenue in the Hollywood Hills.

Rivas was found a day after what would have been her 15th birthday, but authorities believe she likely died much earlier, with the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office saying the remains were ‘severely decomposed.’

Based on that, the medical examiner determined Rivas had been deceased in the vehicle for ‘an extended period of time’.

She was wearing black leggings, a tube top, a yellow metal chain bracelet and stud earrings, according to the medical examiner.

After D4vd’s arrest, his legal team released a statement saying that he did not murder Rivas and that he did not cause her death. His lawyers also pointed out that the grand jury has not returned an indictment.

‘David has only been detained under suspicion. We will vigorously defend David’s innocence,’ his lawyers said.

The case will be presented on Monday to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, which will make the final charging decision.

The grand jury investigation into D4vd began in mid-November. Jurors were presented evidence by prosecutors and relevant individuals were called testify, including D4vd’s managers and friend, Neo Langston.

And in September, police obtained a search warrant for a home Burke had been staying at in the Hollywood Hills, where they seized a computer, according to ABC News.

Police have not disclosed details about what they may have found on the computer.

After Rivas’s death, the lyrics of D4vd’s songs were the subject of much scrutiny due to their violent nature.

In one of his most popular singles, ‘Romantic Homicide’, he sings about a love interest of his no longer being around.

‘In the back of my mind, I killed you… And I didn’t even regret it… I can’t believe I said it… But it’s true… I hate you,’ were the final words of the 2022 song.

D4vd rose to fame that same year after a string of viral TikTok hits.

His popularity led to collaborations with stars such as SZA and Kali Uchis.  When Hernandez’s body was discovered, D4vd was on a tour, which was later canceled.

Chris Packham Discloses Significant Financial Setback in Recent Statement

Chris Packham, known for his role as a presenter on “Springwatch,” has candidly shared that his commitment to “environmental justice” has come with significant financial sacrifices. The BBC personality revealed his drive to work every day stems from a desire to support causes he’s passionate about, even if it has led to substantial financial setbacks.

In a conversation with The I, Packham explained that he often funds conservation efforts from his own earnings. “I work to earn money so I can finance the causes I believe in,” he stated. “I’ve experienced significant financial losses in doing so. While some people support aspects of my work, much of it is personally funded, including numerous conservation campaigns.”

Packham expressed that while others might prioritize material possessions like cars and vacations, he finds value in advocating for change and making an impact through his activism.

Recently, Packham faced a hefty financial burden when he had to pay £200,000 to a pensioner following a legal dispute. The issue arose after Packham was awarded £90,000 in a defamation case in 2023, where he had been falsely accused of misleading the public about donations to a tiger rescue charity.

Despite winning the damages, Packham was criticized for allegedly pursuing the article’s proofreader “vindictively” through the courts, resulting in him being held responsible for legal costs exceeding twice the amount he was awarded.

The judge at the time ruled Chris had not committed any fraud, but said the proofreader, Paul Read, “had no editorial or equivalent responsibility” and dismissed the case against him.

Dr Ruth Tingay, a friend and colleague of Chris’s, set up a crowdfunding pot to raise money for his legal costs which reached an epic £140,315.

Dine Distraction-Free: Why Restaurants Are Saying No to Phones at the Table

0

An increasing number of eateries and bars are encouraging patrons to put away their mobile devices—some even suggest locking them up—as part of a campaign to enhance the dining experience.

This initiative is gaining popularity throughout the United States, with venues experimenting with various approaches such as implementing restrictions, offering incentives, or providing locked pouches, as reported by Fox News Digital.

For instance, Antagonist, a cocktail bar in Charlotte, secures patrons’ phones in locked pouches for roughly two hours. Meanwhile, Delilah, a high-end supper club with multiple locations nationwide, enforces a strict no-phones, no-social-media policy, according to Axios.

Even fast-food chain Chick-fil-A has trialed this concept, with a branch in Maryland providing free ice cream to families who keep their phones away from the dining table.

This trend is particularly prevalent in exclusive venues such as listening bars, supper clubs, cocktail lounges, and restaurants with tasting menus, noted Ben Tannenbaum, vice president of partnerships at the New York-based nightlife company LineLeap.

“The driver isn’t really an anti-phone sentiment,” he told Fox News Digital. “It’s that guests are going out less often than they used to and spending more per visit when they do, so operators are trying to make sure the visit delivers.”

The trend has been building for years, experts say, and it’s picked up steam as more people recognize the downsides of constant screen time.

“The phone-free dining trend began prior to COVID, but it’s increased in momentum in recent years, especially as people have come to understand the negative impacts of overuse of personal devices,” Amanda Belarmino, a hospitality professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, told Fox News Digital.

She said unplugged meals can help diners stay focused on both their food and companions, adding it may even be financially savvy for restaurants.

“Diners who are engaged in the experience are more likely to eat multiple courses or order a second drink,” she said.

They’re also more likely to enjoy their food if it hasn’t gotten cold while they’re busy snapping photos or reading other diners’ reviews before forming their own opinions, Belarmino noted.

Beyond business considerations, experts agree the movement reflects a return to long-standing social norms around dining.

Being present while dining with others is a “timeless principle,” according to New York etiquette expert Nick Leighton.

“When your phone’s out, it’s sending the signal that whoever is with you at that moment isn’t as important as what’s on the phone,” Leighton told Fox News Digital.

Others say the trend is being driven by the mental strain of always being connected.

“The push behind phone-free dining is cognitive overload,” said Dr. Vinay Saranga, a psychiatrist and founder of The North Carolina Institute of Advanced NeuroHealth.

“Phone-free dining offers a form of psychological relief that will foster meaningful connection again and allow us to focus on the present moment.”

But enforcing phone-free policies can come with trade-offs.

“Enforcement is, at best, awkward in practice,” Tannenbaum said. “Pouches, signage and servers asking guests to put phones away all introduce friction that can undercut the experience the policy was trying to create.”

He does not expect phone-free dining to become the norm everywhere and predicts it will last as a sub-category, not as an industry-wide shift.

Chicago Crime Update: Two Teens Charged in Citywide Burglary and ATM Theft Spree from Logan Square to Lincoln Park and Little Village

0

In Chicago, surveillance footage caught suspects breaking into a local business, marking another incident in a recent crime spree.

Authorities have charged two teenagers in connection with this break-in, along with several others citywide.

The suspects, whose identities remain undisclosed due to their status as minors, are believed to have targeted multiple sites last Friday. Within roughly two hours, they reportedly burglarized at least four different locations.

Police describe the duo as part of a group focusing on businesses from Logan Square to Lincoln Park, with a particular interest in stealing ATMs. One of the incidents was captured by a security camera.

Close to 3:30 a.m., the footage reveals individuals shattering a window, then entering the premises with masks on and heading directly for the ATM.

After several failed lifts, they got the machine through the window with the help of a third person before getting away.

It happened early Friday morning at The Double Urban Tavern on West Fullerton Avenue in Logan Square.

Police say their getaway vehicle was seen an hour later at a Lincoln Park business, where four suspects also broke in and stole an ATM.

And an hour after that break-in, investigators say the suspects committed another burglary at a Little Village business before getting away with an ATM and a cash register.

After tracking them down, police say they were able to arrest a 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy, who they say, participated in the crimes. They were both charged with three counts of burglary and one misdemeanor count of Criminal Trespass to a Vehicle.

A search warrant at a home then led detectives to find the damaged, stolen ATMs, as well as money, a cash register and seven guns. Three of the guns were fully-automatic. Burglary tools and vehicle reprogramming devices were also recovered at the home.

Police say 18-year-old Avion Moore, who lives at the home where the weapons were recovered, was also arrested and faces multiple felony weapons charges.

An investigation into more suspects involved in the burglary crew is ongoing.

Christina Aguilera showcased her remarkable transformation with a dazzling presence on the red carpet at the Breakthrough Prize Ceremony held on Saturday.

The 45-year-old pop icon captivated the audience at Santa Monica’s Barker Hangar by donning a breathtaking black leather gown that accentuated her cleavage.

This outfit also emphasized her slender waist, a testament to her impressive 50-pound weight loss over recent years.

Fans have speculated whether Aguilera might have turned to weight-loss medications similar to Ozempic, but she has not confirmed using any such aids in her journey.

Accompanying Aguilera at the event, often dubbed the ‘Oscars of science,’ was her fiancé, Matthew Rutler, who complemented her look with a sleek black suit.

They were supporting the Breakthrough Prize’s quest to ‘honor scientists whose discoveries are significantly driving growth of human knowledge,’ according to the ceremony’s website.

Aguilera spiced up the red carpet with her low-cut dress, which had thin straps that hung down around her arms and a flat top that barely covered her prominent bust.

The Genie In A Bottle singer’s look featured a black leather bodice that was lightly wrinkled around her midriff, but it transitioned to a slim black lace skirt at her hips.

The ruched skirt hinted at her toned legs and featured a modest train that trailed behind her.

Aguilera complemented her dress and elevated her stature with a pair of pointy black open-toe heels.

She contrasted her ensemble with her peroxide-blond hair, which was styled in a chic bob with upturned ends and blunt-cut bangs.

The hairdo put the spotlight on her necklace, which featured a large dark stone on a strand of tightly packed diamonds.

Aguilera also wore a sleek bracelet and multiple rings to complement the glowing piece.

She and her fiancé, Matthew Rutler, were on the same page when it came to their black outfits, but he appeared to have committed a faux pas by wearing what looked like a black suit — with the bottom button fastened — rather than a tuxedo like many of the other attendees.

Unveiling the Must-Have Shopping Trend Dividing Australians: Why It’s Now Essential for Many

0

For Lauren Antonenko, managing a series of autoimmune disorders leaves her with very limited dietary options.

Lauren contends with ankylosing spondylitis, ulcerative colitis, and fibromyalgia, necessitating a strict diet heavily reliant on canned goods to maintain her health.

With fuel prices climbing, consumers are reconsidering their approach to purchasing essential groceries.

This strategy, known as “pantry loading,” involves purchasing non-perishable items when they are discounted to avoid future price hikes.

Unlike the panic buying witnessed during the pandemic, this trend sees people buying more of their usual staples to capitalize on sales, not to stockpile.

For Antonenko, it’s also about making sure the foods she depends on are always within reach.

“When fuel prices started climbing, the first thing I noticed was how quickly the mental calculus around shopping changed,” she explained.

She sticks to the “non-negotiable” items her body can handle, like canned fish, vegetables, rice, and certain long-life broths.

“There’s no urgency in it, no drama … I’m only stocking long-life and frozen foods I know my body tolerates and that I actually use.”

Sales data from major suppliers is starting to reflect that trend.

Manufacturer SPC Global told nine.com.au that, as shoppers pared back spending, demand for basics, like canned baked beans, canned tomatoes and packaged fruit, rose by up to 20 per cent in late March.

At a household level, the focus on essentials is taking different forms. Some are cautious at the checkout, while others are stepping away from supermarkets entirely and turning to their back garden.

Aussie business The Diggers Club has recorded a 94 per cent surge in seed sales recently, driven by everyday vegetables such as cauliflower, broccoli and peas.

Anna-Lize Pretorius has started making the most of what she can grow at home, trimming her weekly grocery bill by $30 to $60.

“When you step into the garden instead of the supermarket … that’s money you’re simply not spending,” she said.

“Food tastes better when you’ve grown it yourself. There’s no question about that.”

“Food tastes better when you’ve grown it yourself. There’s no question about that,” Pretorius said. (Supplied)

Meanwhile, for those without access to a home garden, buying in bulk has become a practical way to manage rising costs.

Dr Timothy Neal, a Scientia Senior Lecturer in Economics at UNSW, said the behaviour is consistent with how consumers respond to uncertainty.

“If one expects either price increases or supply constraints of a particular good in the near future, it’s rational for the consumer to increase their stockpile,” he said.

The message is simple: If you don’t need the item soon, put it back. (Eamon Gallagher)

With more of the weekly budget absorbed by fuel and mortgage repayments, spending in other areas tends to fall, as fewer meals are eaten out and demand for basic food items rises.

Dr Neal said a simple check can help households avoid buying more than they need at the checkout.

“Families can distinguish between being prepared and over-purchasing by thinking before buying whether they will have a real need for the good over the coming few weeks or a month.”

“If not, then it’s probably better to put it back.”

Major grocers, including Woolworths, IGA and Aldi, say stock levels remain steady.

“We’re continuing to see consistent supply, and there’s no need to over-purchase or stockpile,” an IGA spokesperson said.

“By buying only what you need and being mindful of others, it helps ensure everyone in the community can access the essentials they rely on.”

Las Vegas Sphere Sparks Global Expansion: Discover the Next City to Host the Futuristic Venue

The Las Vegas Sphere is just the beginning of a new wave of spherical entertainment venues envisioned by its operators.

Sitting near the Venetian Resort off the iconic Las Vegas Strip, the Sphere opened in 2023 following years of meticulous construction. This venue is equipped with cutting-edge technologies, including immersive wrap-around video screens, promising “next-generation entertainment” that enhances musical performances for up to 20,000 attendees, according to the owners.

“Sphere was crafted to transport audiences to extraordinary realms, both real and imagined. The Sphere Experience is where this vision fully materializes,” remarked James L. Dolan, CEO of Sphere Entertainment, shortly after its 2023 debut.

Sphere Las Vegas

The idea of expanding the Sphere brand was floated long before the Las Vegas location was completed. Back in 2018, Sphere Entertainment, then known as the Madison Square Garden Company, proposed constructing a similar venue in London, slated to open after the Las Vegas establishment.

“We anticipate that a large-scale, next-generation venue will not only become a premier destination but also stimulate growth in London’s music and entertainment scene. This will benefit artists, fans, and stand as a lasting investment in the vibrant future of this incredible city,” Dolan stated, according to the London Evening Standard.

Plans for a London Sphere eventually came under criticism from the operators of other nearby venue, as well as local advocacy groups concerned about noise, traffic and light pollution. London Mayor Sadiq Khan ultimately rejected the proposal in 2023, with a representative for Khan saying the venue would have “an unacceptable negative impact on local residents,” the BBC reported.

Sphere Entertainment was also involved in discussions to bring other Spheres to places including Tokyo and Seoul, local outlets have reported in recent years, but it’s unclear if those projects are active. A representative for Sphere Entertainment would not comment on any existing plans for Spheres in either city.

Sphere Entertainment is, however, moving ahead with two other Spheres, including a smaller-scale version scheduled to open at National Harbor in Maryland, near the southern tip of D.C. The venue would seat around 6,000 people, but boasts the same LED screens as the Vegas Sphere, both inside and out. A press release issued earlier this year said the venue will also feature immersive sound technology “as well as haptic seating and 4D environmental effects.”

  • Sphere Maryland
  • Sphere Maryland

“This will be one of the largest economic development projects in Prince George’s County history — proving once again our state is the best place in the country to bring dreams to life,” Maryland Governor Wes Moore said of the project, which will be paid for with a combination of public and private funds.

Yet another Sphere — this time identical in scale to the Vegas one — is planned for the United Arab Emirates, where it will be located in “a prime spot in Abu Dhabi,” Sphere Entertainment announced in 2024. The venue would open sometime in 2030, Nexstar’s KLAS previously reported.

It’s unlikely that the Spheres in Maryland or the UAE will be the last of their kind, either. In January, Dolan said his company wanted to place more Spheres across “forward-looking cities.”

“The vision for Sphere has always included a global network of venues,” he said in 2024.

Will ‘The Madison’ Air a New Episode This Week? Get the Latest Updates on Seasons 2 and 3!

There’s been some confusion swirling around Taylor Sheridan’s acclaimed series, The Madison.

Initially, the show was touted as a spinoff of the hit drama Yellowstone, but during the development process, it evolved into an independent project, severing ties with the tumultuous saga of the Dutton family.

Many fans also assumed the series would be a limited run. However, that’s not the case. Not only has the second season of The Madison already been completed, but plans for a third season are also underway!

In a recent announcement, Paramount+ shared that the Michelle Pfeiffer-fronted series, which has shattered streaming records, has been greenlit for a third season. This news isn’t particularly surprising, given that The Madison is Sheridan’s most-viewed launch to date, amassing an impressive eight million global views within the first 10 days of its premiere on Paramount+.

With additional episodes confirmed, the burning question remains: when will The Madison return for its second season? Here’s everything we know so far.

Is The Madison Airing a New Episode This Week?

Nope. The first season finale of The Madison premiered March 21, 2026, on Paramount+.

How Many Episodes Are There of The Madison?

The first season consists of six episodes.

Will There Be a Season 2 of The Madison?

Yes! As we previously mentioned, the second season of The Madison has already been shot.

“The family unit of the Clyburns is what holds everyone together, and they’re all integral to that dynamic,” series director Christina Alexandra Voros told The Hollywood Reporter. “So there are a lot of questions at the end of season one that will be answered when you get to season two.”

There’s no official Season 2 premiere date, but since Season 2’s already been shot, we expect The Madison to return with new episodes in late 2026 or early 2027.

Will There Be a Season 3 of The Madison?

Yes! Earlier this week, Paramount announced that The Madison has already been renewed for a third season.

Where To Watch The Madison Online:

All six episodes of The Madison are streaming on Paramount+, which is available for $8.99/month or $13.99/month (Paramount+ Premium). You can also add Paramount+ to your Amazon or Hulu accounts for an additional $13.99/month.

Does Paramount+ Offer a Free Trial?

Yes! Paramount+ is currently offering a free trial through Amazon.
