AFL Star Shares Playful Encounter Rating After Meeting Prince Harry

0
The Duke of Sussex took part in a kickaround with children and players at the team’s headquarters at Mission Whitten Oval in Footscray, Melbourne on day two of his Australia visit and proved to fans that he has a “six out of 10” ability to punt the football.

Matthew Kennedy, Tom Liberatore, and Adam Treloar of the Western Bulldogs enjoyed an intimate encounter with the former royal on the field.

Kennedy, after confessing to feeling a bit awestruck, offered a thoughtful critique of Harry’s on-field skills.

“I gave him a six out of 10, still a bit of an improvement to go, but he was really good, he asked us plenty of questions and it was great pleasure to meet him,” Kennedy told Nine.com.au.

“He might need to work on getting the ball to spin correctly,” he commented.

“There were a few errant throws, so that’s where he could start improving.”

In a gesture of camaraderie, the Bulldogs midfielder gifted Harry a team scarf, which the duke wore with pride for the remainder of his visit.

Kennedy joked that he might convince the duke to sign up as a Bulldogs member if his team can lock in a win on Friday.

“I think that’s gonna be pretty tough, but we’ll see how we go,” he laughed.

“Maybe we get the win this weekend, we can get him across.”

Kennedy, who welcomed his son Theo in 2024, said the pair also bonded over fatherhood.

“We spoke about a bit about his, sporting background with rugby, [a] bit about AFL and bit about our kids and stuff, it was a great opportunity,” Kennedy said.

“You don’t get to do that every day… it’s pretty awesome.”

Earlier, Treloar told reporters he thought Harry’s visit was a “big joke” until he saw the media start setting up.

He was chosen as one the players to kick the ball with Harry only yesterday.

“I still didn’t really believe it until he came walking out,” Treloar said.

“We don’t usually get that out here in Footscray, so it’s pretty cool.”

During his visit, Harry told the players he often followed the AFL fixtures from his home in the US.

“He was a little bit disappointed that we gave him a kid’s footy,” Treloar added.

“He wanted one of the, the real ones, but he went OK.”

Harry took to the field after joining a panel on mental health hosted by Melbourne-based charity Movember.

Harry and wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, are focusing on events that champion community resilience, support for the armed forces and mental health during their whirlwind four-day visit.

It’s their first visit since their 2018 royal tour, and the first since they quit the monarchy in 2020.

The couple will head to Canberra, before returning to Melbourne for a brief visit and a stop in Sydney.

Baby Boomers’ Housing Choices Spark Concerns Over Potential Real Estate Crisis

0

The United States is grappling with a housing crisis, and surprisingly, the culprit is the baby boomer generation.

As millennials and Generation Z embark on their quest for spacious, family-friendly homes, they’re facing a daunting challenge: finding affordable housing options in the current market.

With property prices skyrocketing, older baby boomers are holding onto their expansive homes, effectively locking younger buyers out of desirable market segments.

According to a recent study by real estate platform Redfin, empty-nester baby boomers possess 28 percent of the country’s largest homes.

Remarkably, Redfin’s research highlights that in every major U.S. metropolitan area, these empty-nest boomers own more large homes than millennial families, revealing a significant gap between those who have ample space and those who are in dire need of it.

Millennials with kids only own around 16 percent of large homes with more than three bedrooms in the US.

Gen Z parents, who are just now entering the housing market, own a measly 1 percent of the nation’s large homes.

And for many younger Americans, owning their own home isn’t even on the radar.

Around 25 percent of millennial and Gen Z renters say they don’t plan to buy a home anytime soon simply because they can’t afford one where they want to live, no matter how many bedrooms they might want or need.

Shai Reshef, president of the University of the People, cited mounting student loans, in addition to other financial burdens, as reasons why millennials hesitate to buy homes.

‘Young adults do not lack ambition,’ Reshef told The Daily Mail. ‘They are navigating a world where student loan payments, inflated housing costs and tighter lending standards make it much harder to save for a down payment or qualify for a mortgage.’

‘That is why many people in these generations believe homeownership has become less a milestone and more a financial hurdle,’ he added.

Baby boomers, now in their sixties and seventies, have good financial reasons to remain in their giant homes.

More than half of property owners have completely paid off their houses – and for some, the added cost of purchasing a condo just isn’t worth it.

‘I hear empty nesters say they want to downsize, but it’s hard to find move-in ready, small, one-story homes or condos in their price range – especially since many of them are living in a fully paid-off home,’ Philadelphia-based agent Brenda Beiser said during an interview with Redfin.

‘So there’s a lack of movement that’s keeping both older and younger buyers where they are, even though the older ones want a smaller home and the younger ones want a bigger home,’ she added.

Should empty-nest boomers feel obligated to downsize and make way for younger families?

New Jersey is among the most expensive states to live, with the median household income about $104,000

Empty nesters own the biggest share of homes in Memphis, Tennessee – holding 31  percent of all large houses.

Unsurprisingly, millennials with kids have the biggest share of large homes in Austin, coming in at over 19 percent.

Austin had one of the fastest growing cycles in the country during Covid. When tech workers started moving to the city, developers responded with a surge of apartment construction.

‘That surge in new units has temporarily shifted the market in favor of renters and led to more than two years of rent declines,’ real estate developer Uri Man previously told The Daily Mail.

That’s good news for incoming renters who will have a wide array of luxury apartments, but bad news for current homeowners and sellers, as homes in the area now sit on the market losing value.

Now, the Texas boomtown is among four metros that have 50 percent more homes on the market than pre-pandemic norms, Realtor.com reports.

Home price aside, the rising cost of living makes coveted areas less attainable.

In California, the most expensive state to live in, the median household income was just over $100,000, with the average home value reaching $761,839 as of September 2025.

New Jersey has the second-highest cost of living and the second-most-expensive housing. There, the median household income was around $104,000 and the average home price last September was $562,460.

But the cost of living crisis is impacting residents nationwide – a GOBankingRates report found that Americans must earn at least $100,000 per year to live comfortably in 26 of the nation’s 50 biggest cities.

Heroic Oklahoma Principal Stops Gunman in School Incident Caught on Video

0

A dramatic new video has surfaced, capturing the harrowing moment when a high school principal in Oklahoma courageously faced and subdued a gunman who had opened fire within the school premises.

This gripping footage from Pauls Valley High School reveals Principal Kirk Moore confronting the assailant, identified as 20-year-old Victor Hawkins, a former student, as he entered the building on April 7. In the ensuing confrontation, Moore was shot in the leg, prompting an urgent airlift to a hospital where he is now in stable condition, according to officials.

The video also discloses a crucial detail: an individual opening a door, thereby granting the suspect access to the school.

In a statement, authorities praised Principal Moore’s brave actions in confronting and subduing the shooter, a move that potentially prevented further tragedy. The incident has left an indelible mark on the Pauls Valley school community, underscoring the unpredictable challenges schools face today.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) told KFOR-TV it does not believe the individual was working with the suspect. Investigators have not determined whether the person who opened the door was a student or staff member, a spokesperson said.

An OSBI spokesperson told Fox News Digital there are no other suspects in the incident.

Authorities said the shooting unfolded around 2:21 p.m., prompting a lockdown until officers cleared the scene. Moore and other staff subdued the gunman until law enforcement arrived and arrested Hawkins.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by the outlet, Hawkins entered the school carrying two loaded semi-automatic pistols.

The affidavit states Moore ran to the lobby after hearing gunfire, where Hawkins allegedly fired at him, striking him in the leg.

Moore then “wrestled with Hawkins on a bench in the foyer and was able to remove Hawkins’ pistol from his hand,” according to the affidavit. Moore and other staff held the suspect down until officers arrived.

Hawkins was charged last week with one count of shooting with intent to kill, one count of carrying a weapon into a public assembly, and two counts of feloniously pointing a firearm.

Court documents reviewed by the outlet show Hawkins studied the Columbine school shooting and told investigators he “wanted to conduct his own school shooting like the Columbine shooters did.”

After entering the school, Hawkins allegedly pointed a gun and yelled for people to “get on the ground, KFOR reported.

He then pointed a gun at a student and attempted to fire, but the weapon malfunctioned, according to the affidavit.

Hawkins attempted to clear the malfunction before later firing at another student, who raised his hands and pleaded not to be shot, the affidavit states.

According to investigators, Hawkins lowered his weapon and told the students to leave.

The OSBI said Moore and school staff acted quickly to stop the attack.

“The principal of the school had noticed that an adult male subject, 20 years old, had stepped foot into the school with a gun,” OSBI spokesperson Hunter McKee told KOCO-TV. “When the principal noticed this, he quickly stepped in, as well as other staff. The subject was able to fire multiple rounds, where the principal was hurt, but no one else was.”

“The actions of the staff and the principal stepping in as soon as they saw a subject with a firearm saved lives today,” McKee added.

Tierra Verde Community Voices Strong Opposition to Proposed Marina Expansion at Town Hall

Residents of Tierra Verde, Florida, remain dissatisfied despite recent revisions to an expansion plan for the local marina. During a town hall meeting on Tuesday, community members expressed their continued opposition to the proposal and vowed to resist its approval.

The development plan, submitted by Greenleaf Capital LLC (Greenleaf) to the City of St. Petersburg on March 10, underwent modifications after the initial application was withdrawn. The updated proposal outlines a single-phase project aimed at modernizing the marina, increasing the high and dry boat storage, and adding new amenities. Notably, the marina’s capacity is now set at 500 dry spaces, down from the originally proposed 548. Additionally, the height of the structure has been reduced from 90 feet to 72 feet, and the existing boat barn will be preserved.

A South Carolina woman faces serious charges after allegedly assaulting and shooting her former partner in the presence of their toddler.

Khila Wood

Khila Wood, 29, stands accused of high and aggravated domestic violence and neglect as a legal custodian, according to records from the Richland County jail, as reported by Law&Crime. She is currently detained at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center with her bond set at $125,000.

The incident unfolded Thursday evening around 7 p.m. on Nancy Avenue in Dentsville, South Carolina, as covered by local NBC affiliate WIS. Wood was with her child, who is under three years old, and the child’s father when the confrontation occurred.

Authorities believe the dispute between the two adults escalated when Wood allegedly struck the father with a firearm. The altercation reportedly intensified as the pair struggled over control of the weapon.

The two adults are believed to have been arguing when Wood allegedly hit the father of her child in the head with a gun. They then reportedly fought over the weapon.

Wood apparently kept hold of it, and the Richland County Sheriff’s Department said that as the man walked to a vehicle to check on their child, Wood shot him. The child was not physically hurt.

Deputies responded to the scene and saw two pools of blood, according to the local outlet. A witness who said “she shot him” as officers approached was also reportedly present.

Wood and the shooting victim reportedly left the area together, and he was later dropped off at a hospital to be treated. Wood then told law enforcement where she was and was arrested.

The child was placed under the care of a grandmother, authorities said.

Dentsville, South Carolina, is a suburb northeast of Columbia, the state’s capital.

Prince Harry Shows Off AFL Skills During Australian Tour Day Two

Prince Harry spent the morning refining his AFL skills in Melbourne’s inner-west, on the second day of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Australian tour.

This morning, the Duke made a visit to Whitten Oval in Footscray, where he spent time learning the nuances of the game from Western Bulldogs players. He also took the opportunity to engage with young fans and meet members of The Wiggles.

During his time at the club, Harry participated in a private event for Movember. There, he opened up about his personal experiences with therapy and reflected on how becoming a father has influenced his life.

In a Q&A session, as reported by the Press Association, Harry shared, “From a therapy perspective, it’s important to be the best version of yourself for your children. I recognized that I had unresolved issues from my past that needed addressing to truly move forward.”

As a gesture of welcome, he was gifted Western Bulldogs jerseys, each personalized with the names of his children, Archie, who is six, and Lilibet, who is four.

He was also presented with Western Bulldogs jerseys with the names of his two children Archie, 6 and Lilibet, 4, printed on the back.

A few dozen fans lined Whitten Oval in the hopes of catching a glimpse of the prince, but he slipped in through a side exit and left through a back door.

“It’s a shame that we didn’t, but his presence was here,” a fan said.

He is expected to fly to Canberra this afternoon for a number of engagements at the Australian War Memorial.

Exclusive: MAFS Star David Engages in ‘Revenge Hookup’ with Alternate Bride

The ‘revenge hook-up’

Although this season of MAFS has concluded, the drama refuses to die down, with one last surprise shaking things up.

After his tumultuous breakup with Alissa Fay during the Final Vows, and her subsequent romance with Australian Ninja Warrior’s Nathan Ryles, David Momoh is causing a stir among the cast by getting involved with his so-called ‘back-up bride.’

Throughout the season, viewers saw David and Alissa as one of the show’s most solid couples, seemingly untouched by the turmoil that plagued others.

However, their relationship crumbled at the final stage, partly due to reasons aired on the show and an off-screen ‘sexual mishap’ that was first reported by the Daily Mail on March 18.

With MAFS now off-air and David and Alissa officially parted ways, David’s newfound romance with Crystal Diaz, who he was matched with during the ‘Is the Grass Greener on the Other Side?’ challenge, is catching everyone’s attention.

What started as a casual catch-up between the two is now being labelled by the wider MAFS cast as a full-blown ‘revenge hook-up’ after Alissa got ahead of David by debuting a new boyfriend shortly after their on-air split.

Viewers will remember that during the ‘Grass is Greener’ challenge, David barely engaged Crystal, keeping things strictly polite and professional – at least on camera.

But it was a different story behind the scenes.

Insiders say that after filming wrapped, David and Crystal reconnected and have since been seen out together, looking far closer than two people with ‘no chemistry’.

‘It wasn’t just friendly,’ a source revealed. ‘There was real energy between them.’

Of course, what’s really fuelling the drama is the timing of it all. ‘It looks like payback after Alissa’s new romance with Nathan,’ a cast source told me.

Whether it’s just revenge or the start of a real relationship remains to be seen.

While David’s move sends shockwaves through the cast, another groom has taken a different approach.

Danny Hewitt has all but disappeared.

In the days following the reunion fallout, multiple cast members have privately expressed concern, claiming they have been unable to get in touch with him.

‘No one can reach him,’ one insider told me. ‘He’s gone completely quiet.’

Danny’s volatile on-screen marriage to Bec Zacharia and ongoing feuds within the group dominated the season, so his sudden silence has raised alarm bells.

While Danny appears to be freezing out most of the cast, Scott McCristal revealed to me yesterday that he had been in direct contact with Danny.

‘I spoke to him 10 minutes ago,’ Scott said.

In fact, Scott made it clear their friendship remained intact despite the backlash that followed Danny after the reunion.

He said that while Danny’s behaviour was heavily criticised, viewers hadn’t been shown the whole story.

‘I think every time they showed those bits of Danny saying stuff, it’s because he was checked out,’ he explained.

According to Scott, audiences didn’t see a lot of what was going on behind the scenes in Danny’s marriage to Bec.

‘There was a lot happening in their relationship… yelling,’ he said. ‘He was dealing with a lot more than what people really saw.’

Why this season never felt quite right

In past MAFS seasons, contestants might have plotted their OnlyFans launches or timed the reveal of new relationships after the cameras stopped rolling.

But this year, the behind-the-scenes manoeuvring began from day one.

Right from the start, it was clear – both from what I saw and what I heard – that managing public perception was the main priority. Genuine connections took a back seat to image control.

On set, it was obvious: the cast was constantly weighing how every moment would look on TV, how it might go viral on social media, and what audiences would think.

It was the major point of difference from previous seasons. In the past, brides and grooms focused on the experiment during filming and didn’t really dwell on audience perception until later. Not so in 2026.

As a result, in my view, we were left with a less authentic cast.

I’m not naive – I know the participants are acutely aware of the opportunities that could await them if they play their cards right on the show – but never has the quest for fame felt more calculated.

One insider summed it up: ‘Everyone wanted to be liked. Not by their partner, but by the audience.’

The real influence wasn’t the experts

Behind the scenes, another surprising pattern emerged.

Instead of looking to the relationship experts for advice, this year’s cast sought guidance from past participants and aligned themselves with familiar faces from previous seasons.

Gia, for example, spoke to Jessika Power and Ines Basic. Bec was in regular contact with Awhina Rutene and Jamie Marinos.

During filming, Danny had several conversations with Awhina’s on-screen husband Adrian Araouzou after running into him at the local gym.

Adrian reportedly told Danny he needed to stay until the end of the experiment ‘for exposure’ – otherwise there was no point in him being on the show.

It seems many of the participants were being influenced to the point that it shaped their behaviour throughout the entire season.

The same drama – on repeat

Did you feel a sense of déjà vu watching MAFS this year? Me too.

The same feuds flared up week after week and every dinner party devolved into near-identical arguments.

Mid-season, the ‘mean girl’ antics of Bec, Gia and their clique took centre stage, pushing the bride-and-groom relationships into the background.

Leaked texts dominated the narrative, hijacking episodes and exhausting viewers in the process.

At times, the show felt less like a relationship experiment and more like a group chat in freefall.

That’s what happens when producers take one idea and stretch it out far too long.

They won’t like me saying it – but it’s true.

The couples who should have left sooner

Then there were the couples who stayed far too long. Do I even need to name them? Of course, I’m talking about Gia and Scott, Bec and Danny.

Their relationships had run their course long before the end of the experiment, but they stuck around anyway, creating drama that was past its use-by date yet remained a focal point of the show.

While they may have dominated conversation, they also stagnated the experiment, pulling attention away from the couples that had genuine potential.

Again, the producers will be firing up my DMs – but it’s true.

Couples like Gia and Scott (pictured) delivered the drama that kept audiences hooked, even if it was predictable and many of them were just tuning in to hate-watch

Couples like Gia and Scott (pictured) delivered the drama that kept audiences hooked, even if it was predictable and many of them were just tuning in to hate-watch

The uncomfortable truth

Still, there’s a reason why the producers made the decisions they did: without the Becs and Dannys, the Gias and the Scotts, there would simply be no show.

Love them or hate them, these four stars carried the season. Most viewers would be hard-pressed to remember the other couples on the show at all in 12 months’ time.

They delivered the drama that kept audiences hooked, even if it was predictable and many of them were just tuning in to hate-watch.

But in the long term, this type of lazy storytelling erodes viewer trust.

Why Nine owes viewers an apology

If you ask me, Channel Nine owes viewers an apology.

Throughout this entire season, the cast members and other show insiders have all repeatedly told me the same thing: key context was missing from the final edit and critical moments were left out.

In fact, I’m told entire storylines were simplified or simply cut out altogether.

If you found yourself wondering, ‘This doesn’t make sense,’ you weren’t alone.

‘There’s so much that hasn’t made it to air,’ one insider told me. ‘If people saw the full picture, they’d understand things very differently.’

To be fair, we have always known MAFS uses a degree of artistic licence and contestants who get a bad rap will often blame the ‘edit’.

But when the gap between what is shown and what is real becomes too wide, trust starts to erode.

If viewers don’t tune in for the next season, Nine will only have themselves to blame.

The reality after reality TV

The post-broadcast fallout from this season was catastrophic, with several participants telling me they’re struggling mentally and financially, with little support from the network.

It’s understood the cast was sent a list of recommended talent agents – effectively leaving them to fend for themselves.

‘I went on this show and got literally nothing out of it,’ one cast member tells me.

‘My life was better before it. I’m jobless, struggling to find work… I can’t pay my rent.’

Despite expectations of walking away as influencers, many haven’t even secured social media verification. It’s a brutal reality check few of them saw coming.

Until next time.

Super Typhoon Sinlaku Unleashes Devastating Winds on Remote Pacific U.S. Islands

0

A powerful super typhoon unleashed its fury on two isolated U.S. islands in the Pacific, bringing with it devastating winds and relentless rain. The storm ripped apart tin roofs and sent tree limbs flying, forcing residents to seek shelter.

Super Typhoon Sinlaku relentlessly hammered the Northern Mariana Islands throughout the early hours of Wednesday. The storm, moving slowly, inflicted significant damage upon the islands of Tinian and Saipan, which are home to nearly 50,000 people.

In Susupe, a village on Saipan, the powerful winds stripped the roof from a commercial building and snapped tree branches. A blue sedan ended up on its side amidst the chaos.

Resident Dong Min Lee captured a video showing a car precariously perched atop two others in the parking lot of his apartment complex. The fierce winds also tore away part of his balcony railing.

“I hope people will pay attention and offer help. The damage here is truly extensive,” Lee remarked in a Facebook message.

Preliminary reports include a lot of flooding, uprooted trees and downed power lines, said Jaden Sanchez, spokesperson for the Saipan mayor’s office. There were no reports of deaths, he said.

Authorities were advising residents to remain indoors and away from strong winds, but Mayor Ramon “RB” Jose Blas Camacho was out in the community assessing the damage, Sanchez said.

The typhoon — the strongest tropical cyclone on Earth this year — was packing sustained winds of up to 150 mph (240 kph) when it made landfall on the islands, the National Weather Service said.

Tropical force winds and torrential rainfall also led to flash flooding on Guam, a U.S. territory to the south with several U.S. military installations and about 170,000 residents, the weather service said. Earlier, it hit the outer islands and atolls of Chuuk in the Federated States of Micronesia.

The American Red Cross and its partners were sheltering more than 1,000 residents across Guam and the Northern Marians, agency spokesperson Stephanie Fox said.

‘Rain was coming through everywhere’

“I’m guessing anything that was made of wood and tin did not survive this,” said Glen Hunter, who grew up on Saipan, the largest of the Northern Mariana Islands as well as its capital, known for its resorts, snorkeling and golf.

“It was a losing battle because the rain was coming through everywhere,” he said. “Every house is just flooded with water, no matter what type of structure you’re in.”

Ed Propst, a former lawmaker in Saipan who works in the governor’s office, said he heard “banging and clanging through the night.”

“We haven’t heard of any — knock on wood — deaths so far,” he said, attributing that to residents heeding warnings to take shelter if they weren’t in a concrete home.

Winds at 75 mph (121 kph) or greater were expected to continue through Wednesday afternoon as the eye of the storm was moving northwest of Saipan and Tinian, said Ken Kleeschulte, acting science and operations officer for the National Weather Service on Guam. Even as winds slowly subside to about 50 mph (80 kph), they will remain too strong for people to safely go outside for at least a day and a half, he said.

Sinlaku will start to curve toward sparsely populated volcanic islands in the far northern Marianas, he said.

Still recovering from a 2018 typhoon

In Guam, where Typhoon Mawar knocked out power for days in 2023, U.S. military officials warned personnel to shelter in place. The military controls about one-third of the land on Guam, a critical hub for U.S. forces in the Pacific.

Tourism-dependent Saipan — the site of one of World War II’s bloodiest battles in the Pacific — was still recovering from 2018’s Super Typhoon Yutu when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Hunter said. The economy has yet to rebound, he said.

Yutu destroyed 85% of the Saipan campus of Northern Marianas College, said the school’s president, Galvin Deleon Guerrero. The institution secured $100 million in grant funding to rebuild.

“Just as we were finally beginning to recover and rebuild, we get hit with this,” he said. “Climate change is real.”

He said he worries about people still suffering from the post-traumatic stress of Yutu.

“We are an incredibly resilient people,” he said, noting that he’s Chamorro, the Indigenous people of the Mariana Islands. “But just because we’re resilient doesn’t mean that we should be subjected to this on this frequent basis.”

Disaster declaration

President Donald Trump approved emergency disaster declarations ahead of the latest storm for Guam and the Mariana Islands. The Federal Emergency Management Agency said it was coordinating support across multiple agencies, dispatching nearly 100 FEMA staff as well as other personnel.

Super typhoons are the equivalent of Category 4 or 5 hurricanes in the Atlantic, with winds of at least 150 mph (240 kph). There have been more than 300 super typhoons identified over the past 80 years by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center in Guam.

Typhoons are “very common” in the Pacific, but the peak season is similar to the Atlantic hurricane season, which runs from summer to fall, said Jason Nicholls, AccuWeather’s lead international forecaster.

“As we’ve seen this year, you can get tropical systems in the West Pacific any time of year,” Nicholls said. “But getting them in April is a little unusual.”

King to Discuss Complex Dynamics of US-UK Relationship

0

King Charles is preparing to address the complexities of the Anglo-American relationship in a historic speech to Congress, as officials confirmed his contentious State Visit to the United States will proceed. The trip, set for later this month, promises to be significant in its implications and has already generated considerable buzz.

In addition to King Charles’s diplomatic engagements, Queen Camilla is slated to meet with survivors of domestic and sexual abuse during the visit. However, royal aides have declined a request for her to meet with victims associated with Jeffrey Epstein, a decision that highlights the delicate nature of the trip.

Efforts are also underway to sidestep any potential complications regarding President Donald Trump, who has recently voiced strong criticism of British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, particularly concerning his approach to foreign policy. To avoid any public friction, any discussions between King Charles and President Trump will occur privately, away from the media’s glare, even though formal speeches will be delivered at a grand White House State Dinner.

Interestingly, the visit will not include the traditional ‘walkabouts’ that often accompany such high-profile events. This decision, influenced by security advice, marks a departure from typical royal visits. Nevertheless, King Charles and Queen Camilla will still have opportunities to engage with the American public through a series of carefully arranged public appearances.

And the traditional ‘walkabouts’ that are normally part of such a high-profile visit are notably absent from the programme, apparently on the advice of the security services, although there will be opportunities for the royal couple to meet the American people as part of a series of carefully-managed public engagements.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman on Tuesday acknowledged the visit, which is taking place at the request of the British government and has faced repeated calls to be scrapped, came at a perilous time for the so-called ‘special relationship’.

They said of the visit, which has been in the planning for almost a year to mark the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence: ‘This is celebrating a partnership between two nations and two peoples. It is a relationship that has survived many presidencies and, of course, many reigns, and will no doubt continue to do so long into the future.’

Sources emphasised that the King and Queen have a ‘unique role to play in terms of building alliances, even in challenging circumstances’.

The whole strategic objective of a State Visit, they stressed, was for the King to utilise and demonstrate the monarchy’s legendary brand of ‘soft power’ to cement even tricky relationships.

It has been suggested that the King’s address to a joint meeting of Congress, only the second time a British monarch has been invited to do so, following his late mother, Queen Elizabeth, in 1991, would be a chance to do just that.

An FCDO spokesman added: ‘So, yes, we are close allies, we do disagree on things, but that doesn’t detract from the value that both sides get from this relationship and have done over many decades.’

President Trump has branded the UK’s approach to the Iran conflict as ‘terrible’ and repeatedly ridiculed Sir Keir, dismissing him as ‘not Winston Churchill’.

He has also lambasted the depleted Royal Navy, denigrating Britain’s warships as ‘toys’.

The King is head of the armed forces in the UK, and there have been calls for him to raise the issue directly with President Trump when they meet.

King Charles’ State Visit will take place from April 27-30, taking in Washington DC, New York and Virginia.

A palace spokesman described it as an ‘opportunity to recognise the shared history of our two nations; the breadth of the economic, security and cultural relationship that has developed since then; and the deep people-to-people connections which unite communities.’

Charles, 77, and Camilla, 78, will be ‘informally welcomed’ to President Trump and the First Lady with a private tea, followed by a large party featuring guests from both the British and US communities.

The formal welcome to the White House will take place later, affording the King full military honours, similar to those previously received by President Trump in the UK.

The two men will undertake a private bilateral meeting at the US leader’s official residence, during which every ounce of the King’s life-long experience in international diplomacy will come to the fore.

Meanwhile, Queen Camilla will join First Lady Melania Trump for their own tete-a-tete.

Afterwards, watched by his wife, the King will give a carefully calibrated speech to Congress before the couple are hosted at a lavish State Dinner back at the White House.

Before leaving Washington, Their Majesties will lay a wreath and flowers in honour of the fallen, marking the military partnership between the UK and the US.

In New York, Charles and Camilla will undertake a series of engagements reflecting the modern relationship between the UK and the US, including the strong economic and cultural ties.

This will include a commemoration of those who lost their lives in the 9/11 terror attacks almost 25 years ago, meeting first responders and the families of victims.

The King will also visit a grassroots community organisation who help children affected by food insecurity through ‘urban, after-school farming’, as well as business and financial leaders.

Meanwhile, the Queen will attend a literary event, the highlight of which will be a celebration of Winnie the Pooh’s 100th birthday, as well as using her Queen’s Reading Room charity to bring together high-profile writers from both sides of the Atlantic.

The couple will conclude the New York leg of their visit at a reception to celebrate the work of the King’s Trust for disadvantaged young people.

Back in Washington, there will be an official farewell from the President and First Lady before the couple travel to Virginia, meeting residents, community organisations and Appalachian cultural groups at a ‘block party’ – the American version of a traditional British street party.

Their visit to Virginia will also include taking in one of America’s national parks, where the King will meet with indigenous communities, while the Queen will visit a farm to highlight America’s horse racing industry and its links with the UK.

Throughout her time in the US, it is understood that she will meet, as she normally does, with organisations working in the arena of domestic and sexual violence, as well as survivors, part of her wider public engagements.

These meetings happen regularly both at home and abroad, as Camilla has been a long-term advocate in the field.

But suggestions she could meet with Epstein survivors have been firmly quashed, amid concern that it could interfere with official police investigations in the UK, particularly involving the King’s brother, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

A Buckingham Palace source said: ‘There is no deviation from the guidance that we’ve previously issued, that it will not be possible during this State Visit for a meeting to take place of the kind that has been suggested.

‘We fully understand and appreciate the survivors’ position, but can only reiterate that our position is clear that anything that could potentially impact on ongoing police inquiries and assessments and any potential legal action or criminal trial that could result from that, would be to the detriment of the survivors themselves in their pursuit of justice.’

They also emphasised His Majesty’s ‘clear constitutional position’, adding: ‘Even though the risk may be small that a meeting or any public comments could impact on those inquiries, or the proper course of the law, that is a risk that we simply can’t take, for the best interest for the survivors themselves.’

After the US State Visit is concluded, the King will travel solo to Bermuda, Britain’s oldest Overseas Territory, where he remains head of state, for two days of engagements.

He will address the thorny issue of the transatlantic slave trade by viewing a museum exhibition dedicated to Bermuda’s history.
