Tragic Loss: Community Mourns Beloved Teacher in Fatal Stabbing Incident

0

A tragic incident unfolded in California when a cherished elementary school teacher was fatally stabbed, and her daughter was left injured, after an intruder forced his way into their residence.

On Monday, Arti Varma, 59, and her daughter Meera, 25, were attacked in their Burbank home. Sergio Fraire, 30, has been apprehended and charged with Varma’s murder.

The teacher from Bret Harte Elementary School tragically succumbed to her injuries later that day, while her daughter is currently hospitalized and recovering, as reported by the Los Angeles Times.

Burbank Police Department Lieutenant Brent Fekety shared with the publication that both witness accounts and surveillance footage were crucial in leading to Fraire’s arrest.

Lieutenant Fekety revealed that security footage captured the suspect walking approximately three miles to Varma’s home before making a forced entry between the hours of 3 a.m. and 6 a.m.

Neighbor Victor Goli told ABC 7 that Varma’s husband and Meera’s father was away in India when he heard the news. ‘He couldn’t even speak right… he was crying,’ Goli said.

Fraire’s relationship with Verma remains unclear, however police noted that her sister works as a special education teacher for transitional kindergarten and first-grade students at Bret Elementary School, the Times reported.

The suspect’s sister, who has not yet been identified, was also arrested on Thursday and charged with murder and other crimes, as police said they are continuing to investigate her, NBC 4 reported.

‘Detectives continue to investigate the relationship, if any, between the suspect and the victims, as well as the motive,’ Fekety told the Times.

Fraire was arrested and charged with special circumstances murder, attempted murder and first-degree residential burglary. He pleaded not guilty and remains behind bars where he is being held without bail, the outlet reported.

‘Arti was a fantastic teacher and sweet lady,’ neighbor Emma Strattan told the Times.  ‘The community feels her loss especially at Bret Harte Elementary.

The beloved teacher was described by her friend, Cristina Strattan, as ‘an amazing teacher’ who ‘loved being a teacher,’ ABC 7 reported.

‘She was such a bright light. She was always so joyful, so proud of her kids,’ she continued.

Burbank Mayor Tamala Takahashi said the news of Varma’s death is ‘deeply painful and difficult to process.’

‘The tragedy which claimed the life of a beloved teacher at Bret Harte, Arti Varma, and left her daughter, Meera, several injured, has left us all carrying a heavy, collective heartache,’ Takahashi wrote on Facebook.

‘We are heartbroken for this loss, as we are all navigating together waves of shock and heavy grief. For the family and friends of Arti and Meera, I want to send my deep condolences for your loss,’ she continued.

‘For the students and educators who knew Arti, I recognize the loss of a mentor who poured so much care into our children is a unique kind of trauma.

‘For my colleagues in the mental health and healthcare community, I understand that seeing a fellow caregiver targeted and harmed in their own home is particularly jarring.

‘In the immediate aftermath of acute trauma such as this, our connection is our greatest path toward supporting one another through this difficult time. Thank you all for honoring her memory and coming together in our supportive and warm community.’

The Burbank Arts and Education Foundation described Varma as a ‘cherished teacher’ who ‘touched so many lives with her kindness, compassion and dedication.’

‘Her absence will be deeply felt across the BUSD community. We hold her family, students and colleagues in our thoughts and send our deepest condolences during this time of profound grief,’ the foundation wrote on Facebook.

In a statement to ABC News, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said: ‘Arti Varma was a deeply beloved elementary school teacher who was senselessly taken from her family and community in an act of horrific violence, leaving an entire community grieving in its wake.’

‘I extend my deepest sympathies to the victims’ family, Bret Harte Elementary School’s staff, students and parents and the entire Burbank community,’ he added.

Varma’s daughter was a nationally recognized mental health activity, the Times reported.

Meera was the youngest speaker in TED x UCLA history in 2023, she took part in a mental health summit at UCLA with Oprah Winfrey and she was invited to speak at the White House, her website stated.

Fraire, who attended Burbank High School, was known as a role model who ran cross-country until he graduated in 2013, the Times reported.

Andres Pulgarin, a former school peer, told the outlet: ‘I had only positive experiences with him. He was always a person who would cheer teammates on – both on and off the field. He was a high achieving student who took Advanced Placement classes all of high school.’

But Pulgarin said he looks completely different than his high school days, and added that he seemed ‘disheveled.’

Fraire was accused of sexual assault by a female coworker in 2019 while employed at World Market and working toward his degree in psychology, the outlet reported.

He denied the accusations, and the case was eventually withdrawn with both parties agreeing to stay away from each other.

Gunmen Launch Coordinated Attacks in Bamako and Surrounding Areas in Mali

0

On Saturday morning, the Malian capital of Bamako and several other regions experienced a series of attacks, which the Malian army described as a coordinated effort by multiple militant groups.

Witnesses reported hearing two loud explosions and continuous gunfire just before 6 a.m. near the Kati military base, located outside Bamako. In response, soldiers swiftly moved to secure the area by blocking off roads, according to observations from Reuters.

Simultaneously, similar disturbances broke out in the central town of Sevare, as well as in Kidal and Gao in northern Mali. “Gunfire can be heard everywhere,” noted a witness in Sevare, highlighting the widespread nature of the unrest.

Mali is currently facing challenges from insurgencies led by groups affiliated with al Qaeda and the Islamic State in West Africa. Additionally, the nation is dealing with a longstanding Tuareg rebellion in its northern territories.

The Malian army issued a statement confirming that unidentified “terrorist” factions had launched attacks on several locations, both in the capital and across the country, although it did not specify exact sites. The statement urged residents to remain calm as fighting continued.

Mali’s military leaders took power after coups in 2020 and 2021, vowing to restore security, but militants continue to stage frequent attacks on the army and civilians.

Mohamed Elmaouloud Ramadane, a spokesperson for the Azawad Liberation Front (FLA), a Tuareg-dominated rebel alliance, said on social media its forces had taken control of multiple positions in Kidal and Gao.

Reuters could not independently verify this claim.

Four security sources said the regional al Qaeda affiliate Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM) was also involved in Saturday’s attacks.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility from JNIM, which frequently stages attacks on military installations throughout much of Mali, or from Islamic State in the Sahel Province (ISSP).

A government spokesperson and a spokesperson for Mali’s army did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

GUNFIRE HEARD NEAR AIRPORT, RESIDENT SAYS

Gunfire could also be heard early on Saturday near a military camp close to Bamako’s airport that houses Russian mercenary forces, a resident said.

“We hear gunfire towards the military camp. It’s not the airport itself, but the camp that secures the airport,” said the resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity for safety reasons.

The government led by Assimi Goita has leaned on Russian mercenaries for security support while initially spurning defense cooperation with Western countries.

Recently it has pursued closer ties with the US.

Reuters reported in March that Mali and the US were nearing a deal that would allow Washington to resume flying aircraft and drones over the West African country’s airspace to gather intelligence on jihadist groups.

Dramatic Bodycam Footage Captures Antioch Officer Trapped in Suspect’s Escape Vehicle During Robbery Chase

0

ANTIOCH, Calif. — The city of Antioch, California, has unveiled body camera footage capturing a dramatic police pursuit that erupted following an armed robbery. The situation intensified when an officer was dragged into the suspect’s escape vehicle.

The chaotic events unfolded on February 20, after officers were dispatched to a grocery store in response to reports of an armed robbery.

Surveillance footage reveals the suspect’s vehicle reversing forcefully, crashing into the store. It also captures the moment officers engaged with a suspect shortly after arriving at the scene.

In a previous incident, Antioch police reported that an officer had discharged a firearm at a Food Maxx robbery suspect while trapped inside the getaway car.

During the confrontation, one officer was involuntarily taken into the suspect’s car as it accelerated away, escalating into a high-stakes confrontation within the moving vehicle.

In audio captured on the body camera video, the officer can be heard warning the suspect, saying, “stop …stop the car or I will shoot you.”

The suspect can be heard saying, “I’m gonna go like 10 miles an hour,” and “put the gun down, I don’t trust you.”

After several warnings, the officer fired a shot, intentionally striking the suspect in the leg, police said. The suspect then crashed into a parked car.

Authorities said the suspect got out of the vehicle and attempted to run away, but was captured and arrested shortly afterward.

The officer was not injured.

Atlanta Firebombing: Three Suspected Antifa Protesters Indicted in Police Training Center Attack

0

In a significant development, three individuals allegedly linked to Antifa have been indicted by a grand jury for reportedly hurling firebombs at the main contractor of an Atlanta police training center. This announcement was made by Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr during a news conference on Friday.

The indictments were handed down on Thursday, naming Katie Marie Kloth, aged 39, Tyler John Norman, aged 42, and Hannah Margaret Kass, aged 33. They are facing two counts of criminal property damage alongside a third count of arson. These charges stem from their purported attack on the Marietta headquarters of Brasfield and Gorrie, the firm responsible for constructing the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center.

The training center project has sparked controversy and opposition, primarily from a group identified as Defend the Atlanta Forest. Critics have nicknamed the facility “Cop City,” reflecting the heated debate surrounding its development.

On May 12, 2022, the accused allegedly inflicted extensive damage on the Brasfield and Gorrie offices, employing both fire and other destructive methods. According to an exclusive grand jury indictment obtained by Fox News, the incident resulted in hundreds of dollars in damages.

Details in the indictment reveal that the defendants purportedly vandalized the property by striking and spray painting fences, windows, and walls. They allegedly used their hands, feet, and thrown objects to cause this havoc, further emphasizing the extent of their actions.

While the three allegedly launched their assault on the office building, Brasfield and Gorrie employees were still inside, Carr said.

Their attacks included the use of explosive devices and fireworks, officials said.

The three are alleged to have traveled from out of the state to participate in the attack, Carr said.

The trio are among 61 defendants previously charged with domestic terrorism and racketeering. All 61, including Kloth, Norman and Kass, are members of Defend the Atlanta Forest, a group Carr referred to as an “anarchist, anti-police, and anti-business extremist organization.”

He also alleged that they were connected to Antifa, a loosely-connected anarchist group President Donald Trump labeled a domestic terrorist organization in 2025.

“When it comes to fighting Antifa and keeping people safe, we won’t back down,” Carr said. “This isn’t Portland or Seattle. If you come to our state and engage in violence, threaten private businesses and damage property, you will be identified and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

In December 2025, a Fulton County judge dismissed the racketeering charges on many of the 61 defendants, a decision Carr said he strongly disagreed with. He also indicated he would continue to pursue other charges against the remaining defendants.

“This is ongoing. It has continued. We are running a parallel track between the appeal that we have regarding the Fulton County case, and we will continue to prosecute this case,” Carr said.

“We won’t rest until the agents of violence and chaos concerning the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center are punished.”

The training center has been the target of protests since the 2021 announcement that the multimillion-dollar complex would be built. Protesters moved into surrounding forests and began living in tents near the site.

In January 2023, Georgia State Patrol Trooper Jerry Parish was shot while clearing the forest of campers. The incident resulted in the shooting death of one of the protesters, Manuel Esteban Paez Terán.

Despite the opposition, the training center opened in April 2025.

Fox News Digital contacted Defend the Atlanta Forest but did not immediately receive a response.

When contacted for comment, a representative for Brasfield and Gorrie directed Fox News Digital’s queries to the Georgia Attorney General’s office.

Billionaires Launch Innovative Texas Town for Aspiring Entrepreneurs

0

A new town in Texas, supported by a group of billionaires, is emerging as an unexpected hotspot for the tech industry elite.

Known as Proto-Town, this 1,200-acre development in Lockhart is rapidly evolving into a hub for what some are calling ‘start-up cowboys.’

Proto-Town provides a unique blend of ranch-style living and cutting-edge technological innovation, focusing on advancements like drones, solar energy, and even nuclear technology.

This ambitious $100 million initiative has attracted funding from notable figures, including venture capitalist Josh Kushner—who is married to supermodel Karlie Kloss and related by marriage to Ivanka Trump. Other key investors in the venture are hedge-fund manager Bill Ackman and Fred Ehrsam, co-founder of Coinbase.

Already, 12 companies have become part of this expansive ranch community, working on projects that range from autonomous bulldozers to drones as large as a basketball court.

But despite attracting some shiny new innovators, Proto-Town is a far cry from gleaming Silicon Valley.

Co-founder Josh Josh Farahzad describes the town as a ‘man-campus’ which has adopted ‘a frat-house atmosphere’, centered on nonstop projects rather than partying and booze.

When they aren’t tearing around the campus on dirt bikes, the so-called ‘startup cowboys’ live together, split between a lone ranch-style home on the property and surrounding trailers and work from morning to night using the robotics facility and drone-building site.

They often eat as a group and pass their downtime riding dirt bikes, making trips to Lockhart for barbecue or heading into downtown Austin for dancing.

‘I don’t have to shop for groceries, I don’t have to drive anywhere, my dogs don’t need leashes,’ Daniel Weddle, who lives in the trailer park with his partner and two dogs, told the WSJ. ‘It’s a very simple life.’

Weddle, 41, left his hometown in Indiana and quit running an event venue to move to Proto-Town, where he is testing a machine designed to 3D-print homes from dirt and clay.

He lugs a five-gallon water tank into his trailer every morning, lets his dog roam freely across the site and eats lunch with other founders day after day.

Even becoming a resident of Proto-Town is like a college fraternity rush, with prospective companies living and working there for just a few days before founders decide if they make the cut.

Early-stage startups often pay only for room and board, while more established companies – including a new multibillion-dollar Samsung semiconductor facility – lease land to test their products.

Proto-Town founders Farahzad, 26, and Merle Nye, 28, told Bloomberg that they wanted the ranch to reflect the idea of the US as a titan of cowboys and innovators.

Farahzad said that in Silicon Valley, many who share that view have aligned themselves with the Trump administration, something he said has no place in the ‘man campus.’

Instead, he said Proto-Town is apolitical, adding that it is an effort to return to the ‘timeless virtues that made America really dynamic.’

‘There’s hardware and there’s real people,’ Evan Lipofsky, a 22-year-old college dropout living in the community and working on solar-powered cooling panels, told Bloomberg.

‘Here it’s not just LinkedIn and fake buttons that you’re clicking,’ he added.

Companies on the grounds include Bedrock Robotics, founded by ex-Waymo engineers, which builds autonomous construction technology, according to Bloomberg.

CEO Boris Sofman visited the site last year looking for land to test autonomous construction machinery, including excavators that dig without human control, and needed more space than San Francisco allowed. He was sold on Proto-Town.

In a nearby shipping container sits Ethan Blagg’s headquarters for Dynamo, a company working to build gigantic drones capable of lifting heavy materials like generators and telecom towers.

Past some walking trails is Terran Robotics, Weddle’s company, which is testing tools like a robotic hammer to compact dirt into adobe homes.

Oklo, a nuclear technology company, revealed it would build a test reactor in Proto-Town to ramp up production of isotopes used in cancer therapy and manufacturing, much of which is currently imported.

The company broke ground on the project in September and plans to bring it online in July, according to Bloomberg.

‘We will have gone from a greenfield to a reactor splitting atoms in less than 10 months,’ CEO Jake Dewitte told the outlet. ‘That’s insane. That’s Manhattan Project-era speed.’

In August, Proto-Town reached a deal with Caldwell County setting minimal building rules for the ranch in exchange for exemption from future regulations.

But the bizarre commune began with two Duke friends who had prior startup experience and a newfound connection to John Cyruer, a longtime Texas politician.

In 2022, the town of Lockhart was a leading contender to host a $100 billion semiconductor facility for Micron, but the chipmaker ultimately chose to build in New York.

Farahzad recalled his vision at the time: ‘We’re going to build a city.’

They saw their opportunity and launched Proto-Town with Cyruer in 2024, starting with just under six figures in funding.

Last month, the project was valued at around $100 million after its first fundraising round, which raised $20 million from Ackman, Kushner and Ehrsam

Since then it has thrived, although it has not always been smooth sailing.

The founders initially faced resistance from the county judge among other problems, including being forced to live in a scorpion-infested ranch house during the town’s early days.

The pitch ‘was something along the lines of like, if you’re going to die one day, you should live trying crazy things,’ Nye told Bloomberg.

Nye explained that tech hubs like Silicon Valley were too restrictive and expensive, arguing that having everything readily available – testing grounds, housing and manufacturing facilities – eases the stress of launching a business.

‘It filters for people who really want to put their heads down and figure out their product or company,’ Nye told Bloomberg.

‘You’re so unconstrained in terms of the physical space out here that you can think in a different pattern than you could in a warehouse in the middle of a city,’ he added.

The founders also believed in a build-at-all-cost approach, citing China’s manufacturing strength as an inspiration and sharing their own aspirations to build an ‘American Shenzhen.’

Shenzhen, known as China’s ‘Silicon Valley of Hardware,’ has evolved from a small fishing village into a global technology hub of over 17 million people in just 40 years.

Last month, the project was valued at around $100 million after its first fundraising round, which raised $20 million from Ackman, Kushner and Ehrsam.

Marcus Rashford’s Future Uncertain as Manchester United and Barcelona Prepare for Pre-World Cup Negotiations

0

Marcus Rashford’s career path remains uncertain as the World Cup approaches, with Barcelona evaluating their options regarding the Manchester United forward, currently on loan with the Spanish club.

According to the terms of the agreement, Barcelona has the option to purchase Rashford for £26 million. They have been covering his full salary, but this will increase to £315,000 per week if Manchester United secures a spot in the Champions League next season.

This season, the 28-year-old has been instrumental for Barcelona, scoring 12 goals and providing 13 assists. His contributions have helped the team maintain a nine-point lead over Real Madrid in La Liga and reach the Champions League quarter-finals, where they were recently eliminated by Atletico Madrid.

As the England forward prepares for the World Cup with Thomas Tuchel’s squad, his future club affiliation remains in limbo, adding an element of uncertainty to his international duties.

Marcus Rashford's future beyond this season is up in the air with talks set to take place

Marcus Rashford’s future beyond this season is up in the air with talks set to take place

Negotiations between Manchester United and Barcelona are expected to intensify once the season concludes, with a potential proposal from Barcelona to extend Rashford’s loan for another season under consideration.

United have the option of bringing him back to Old Trafford, where he spent his entire career before joining Aston Villa on loan last season, or negotiating with other clubs in the Premier League and Europe.

However, it seems unlikely that he would be able to resurrect his United career despite Ruben Amorim – the head coach who dumped him into a ‘bomb squad’ last summer – being sacked in January.

United are trying to drive down their wage bill by offloading other top earners like Casemiro and Jadon Sancho, and want to move Rashford’s salary off the books. In keeping with the terms of the players’ contracts at Old Trafford, it dropped by 25 per cent this season after the club failed to qualify for the Champions League.

However, United are on course to rejoin Europe’s elite after reaching third place in the Premier League table ahead of Saturday night’s trip to Chelsea, meaning that Rashford will be on maximum pay again.

Head coach Michel Carrick has helped to revive the United careers of Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire, but he was reluctant to be drawn on Rashford’s future when he spoke at Carrington on Friday.

Michael Carrick's own future beyond the end of the season is yet to be clarified

Michael Carrick’s own future beyond the end of the season is yet to be clarified

‘I just think there’s decisions to be made in time, really, on certain things, and obviously Marcus is in that situation,’ said the United boss.

‘But at this point in time, nothing’s been decided. And it will be, because it has to be at a certain point, but at this stage, there’s nothing to say. I think to comment either way this stage is just not the right thing to do, because there’s uncertainties.

‘Certainly from my perspective, whoever’s here, I want to work with, make the best out of, and help them improve. So, at the moment, it’s this squad of players, and there’s obviously players on loan. Whatever happens with that later on will happen.

‘But certainly, as a coach, and as a leader of a squad, we want to get the best out of everyone as much as we possibly can, for sure.’

Ironically, United will be in the market for a player in Rashford’s position this summer after Carrick confirmed last month that a left-sided forward would be among the club’s targets. The club have been linked with Yan Diomande of RB Leipzig.

Asked about it again on Friday, he added: ‘Listen, there’s stages to go through in terms of the summer. There’s decisions to be made, of course there is, but then it’s timing – obviously my situation’s one thing, so it’s just working through that.

‘There’s certainly conversations as we go, because that’s natural, but in terms of what’s going to happen exactly, that’s not something that I’ve committed to recruitment wise.

‘We’ve certainly had conversations and that’s just natural. But I’m not really making a big thing of it, to be honest. I think that’ll happen in time anyway.’

Discover Rod Stewart’s Stunning £8.5 Million Essex Mansion He Left Behind

Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster are known for owning an array of luxurious properties around the globe, including a massive mansion that once carried a price tag of £8.5 million. This couple, married since 2007, initially moved into the impressive six-bedroom estate in 2013 after purchasing it for more than £4 million.

However, just three years later, the couple decided to list their Epping manor house for sale. The move came as the legendary musician, then 81, and Penny, 55, chose to relocate closer to their sons’ schools. Their children, Alastair and Aiden, were born in 2005 and 2011, respectively. As a father of eight, with children from previous marriages and relationships, Stewart made a significant decision to prioritize family convenience. Despite the attractive listing, the property lingered on the market for three years, prompting Sir Rod to cut the original asking price of £7.5 million nearly in half. Eventually, it was sold for £4.1 million to footballer Andy Carroll and Billi Mucklow.

Following their split, Carroll and Mucklow relisted the house last year, with current market estimates placing its value near £8.5 million, more than double the price Stewart had received.

Now, according to The Guardian, Stewart enjoys a serene life with his third wife, Penny Lancaster-Stewart, 53, and their sons Alastair and Aiden. They reside in a magnificent 10-bedroom, Grade II-listed mansion nestled on the Hertfordshire and Essex border, not far from the village of Sawbridgeworth.

Their opulent residence is set on 46 acres of land, featuring expansive woodlands, self-contained cottages, a walled garden, a swimming pool, a football pitch, and a croquet lawn, offering an idyllic retreat for the family.

The town that they live in now is very quiet and is steeped in history, with buildings harking back to the Tudor, Stuart and Georgian eras.

Homes there sell for an average of £481,288, according to Rightmove. The majority of properties sold in Sawbridgeworth during the last year were detached houses, fetching an average price of £704,776.

Flats were sold for an average of £219,445, while semi-detached properties commanded £481,727.

Coffee’s Impact: How It May Transform Gut Bacteria and Influence Mood, Stress, and Brain Health

0

Your daily cup of coffee might do more than just energize you—it could significantly affect your digestive system, even if you opt for decaffeinated versions.

Scientists at APC Microbiome Ireland have discovered that regular coffee drinking can alter the trillions of microorganisms residing in your gut. These changes create a chemical feedback loop that may directly impact your mood, stress levels, and mental alertness.

The study monitored 62 individuals to explore the interaction between coffee and the microbiome.

This group was split evenly between 31 coffee drinkers and 31 non-coffee drinkers. Participants underwent various psychological evaluations and meticulously recorded their dietary habits and coffee intake.

The researchers classified “coffee drinkers” as those who consume between three and five cups daily, a range considered safe and moderate by the European Food Safety Authority.

After people stopped drinking coffee for two weeks and then started drinking it again, the bacteria in their digestive systems behaved differently than the non-drinkers, according to a press release.

“Coffee is more than just caffeine,” study author John Cryan, principal investigator at APC Microbiome Ireland, said in a statement.

“It’s a complex dietary factor that interacts with our gut microbes, our metabolism and even our emotional well-being.”

The coffee drinkers were found to have higher levels of specific beneficial bacteria, such as Eggertella and Cryptobacterium curtum.

A close-up of a man and a woman clinking blue coffee mugs on a wooden table.
Caffeinated coffee was linked to less anxiety and better focus, while decaf improved learning and memory. Farknot Architect – stock.adobe.

These microbes play a vital role in releasing gastric acids and creating bile, both of which help the body eliminate harmful bacteria and manage inflammation, the researchers noted.

Both caffeinated and decaf drinkers reported lower levels of perceived stress, depression and impulsivity. This suggests that the non-caffeine components of coffee, like polyphenols and antioxidants, are doing the heavy lifting for mental health.

However, the two types of brew offer different perks. Caffeinated coffee was specifically linked to reduced anxiety and better focus, while decaf was shown to lead to significant improvements in learning and episodic memory.

Researchers believe these cognitive gains in decaf drinkers may be tied to better sleep quality and increased physical activity.

The study’s findings are limited by a small sample size, which may not accurately represent the diverse microbiome profiles found across different global populations.

Because the research relied heavily on self-reported data regarding participants’ coffee habits and mood levels, the results are subject to memory errors and subjective bias, the researchers noted.

The study also did not strictly control for other dietary variables, such as sugar and dairy additives, which could independently influence gut health and cloud the specific impact of the coffee bean itself.

The research was published in the journal Nature Communications.

In Montreal, Lane Hutson delivered a game-winning slap shot in overtime, propelling the Canadiens to a 3-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning. This win on Friday night gives Montreal a 2-1 lead in their tightly contested first-round series, which has seen all three games stretch into extra time.

Hutson’s decisive shot came at 2:09 into overtime. Positioned at the top of the right circle, he unleashed a powerful strike through traffic, finding the top left corner of the net past Tampa Bay’s goalie, Andrei Vasilevskiy. Remarkably, this was the only shot on goal during the overtime period.

The Canadiens’ Kirby Dach had earlier equalized the game with 7:17 remaining in the second period. His precise snap shot, also from the top of the right circle, threaded through traffic to beat Vasilevskiy on the short side, tying the score at 2-2.

With the series now leaning in favor of Montreal, the Canadiens are set to host Game 4 on Sunday night. The series kicked off with Montreal securing a 4-3 victory in the opener last Sunday, followed by a 3-2 response from the Lightning on Tuesday night.

Dach assisted on Alexandre Texier’s opening goal at 4:53 of the first period. Jakub Dobes stopped 15 shots,

Brayden Point and Brandon Hagel scored for Tampa Bay, and Vasilevskiy made 26 saves. In the third, Vasilevskiy stymied Cole Caufield and Josh Anderson on breakaways.

Point tied it on a power play at 7:42 of the first. After Dobes was penalized for tripping Yanni Gourde, Point took Jake Guentzel’s centering pass and ripped a shot past Dobes’ blocker from the high slot.

Hagel gave Tampa Bay the lead at 4:47 of the second with his fourth goal of the series. After a Montreal turnover at its own the blue line, Hagel beat Dobes with a snap shot to the short side from the top of the left circle.

Explosive Allegations: Paige Shiver Claims Pregnancy Amid Scandal with Ousted Michigan Coach Sherrone Moore

Paige Shiver has come forward to share her personal narrative.

Months after the 32-year-old’s affair with University of Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore was made public, she told Good Morning America that she got pregnant during their years-long romance.

In an extensive interview set to air on April 24, Shiver—who was once the assistant to the 40-year-old married father—delved into what the university termed an “inappropriate relationship” that developed between the two. This affair eventually led to Moore’s dismissal from his position.

Following the interview, Moore’s attorney commented to GMA that Moore has “moved on from this chapter.”

Speaking with GMA’s Linsey Davis, Shiver revealed that their consensual and sexual relationship started in 2022 while she was interning at the university. The relationship persisted after she was promoted to Moore’s executive assistant in 2024, coinciding with his appointment as the university’s head football coach.

Initially, Shiver believed she was in love with Moore, but her perspective has shifted over time. Reflecting on the past, she stated, “In hindsight, after really contemplating what was happening, I realize that wasn’t love at all.”

At the time, she believed she was in love with Moore, but has since changed her perspective, saying, “Obviously looking back at things and really reflecting on what happened, what was happening, that’s yeah, that’s not love at all.”

Shiver added that she often felt pressure to continue the relationship to keep her job, adding that Moore and other coaches “had control over my career.”

“Every time I tried to pull away, he always had a story,” she told Davis, “always had a way to pull me in and making me feel that I couldn’t leave him because he was so miserable without me.”

Paige Shiver Says She Got Pregnant During Relationship With Sherrone Moore

Shiver also shared that at one point during the relationship she got pregnant, but had to end the pregnancy after learning the baby had Pompe disease, a genetic disorder that results in a brief life-span, heart problems and skeletal muscle weakness.

She explained, “Multiple doctors and experts told me that it wouldn’t be right or healthy for me to keep the baby.”

When asked whether she had hoped to keep the baby, Shiver broke down in tears before responding “yeah.”

She told Davis that Moore told her, “You have to do what’s right for your body.”

Sherrone Moore is Fired and Arrested

Shiver reported the relationship to university on Dec. 10, leading authorities to fire the head coach for what they deemed was inappropriate behavior.

“U-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately,” University of Michigan Athletic Director Warde Manuel told Oxygen at the time. “Following a University investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior.”

Later that day, Moore drove to Shiver’s home, where he was arrested after allegedly threatening to harm himself.

Shiver told Davis that Moore forced his way inside that night.

“All of a sudden, I hear footsteps, and they’re getting closer and louder, and I’m like crap, and so I run to my door to try to lock it,” she recalled. “He barges in, and he’s standing like this close to me. And he said, ‘You ruined my life. Why would you do this to me?’”

Shiver said she tried to walk away, but Moore allegedly followed her, leaving her fearing for her life.

“He comes in with his hood up, looking down at me, saying, I ruined his life, crying, and…then starts coming at me, and I tell him to leave, that he’s not supposed to be here,” she told Good Morning America. “He’s not— he’s not listening to me. And then he starts grabbing, yes, butter knives.”

What Happened to Sherrone Moore After His Arrest?

Moore pleaded no contest to charges of trespassing and malicious use of a telecommunications device involving a domestic relationship in March, per ESPN, in exchange for authorities dropping more serious charges against him. Moore was sentenced to 18 months of probation and fined $1,000 in April after District Court Judge Cedric Simpson ruled that he didn’t think incarceration was “appropriate” in the case.

“Frankly, Mr. Moore, you had no right to do what you did,” he told Moore while handing down the sentence, per ESPN. “I know she was placed in fear. It was a traumatic experience for you — it was certainly a traumatic experience for her — but you had no right to spread your pain to her.”

Shiver told Davis she would have liked to see Moore go to jail or have “more punishment” for his actions that night.

Shiver also alleged that leadership within the university had been aware of the affair and didn’t intervene, saying, “He controlled everything that was going on in my life, and they didn’t do anything about it.”

In response, Assistant Vice President for Public Affairs and Internal Communications Paul Corliss told Oxygen that the university had acted quickly.

“The University of Michigan terminated Sherrone Moore promptly upon discovering his undisclosed workplace relationship with a direct report,” Corliss said in a statement. “His conduct violated university policy, and we expect more from our leaders. The University of Michigan is committed to ensuring a professional and respectful workplace for all members of its community.”

Oxygen reached out to Moore’s attorney Ellen Michaels for comment on the interview, but did not receive an immediate reply. Michaels told Good Morning America, “Sherrone Moore has closed this chapter.”
