Unseen Issues in Spider-Man: Brand New Day Exposed

0

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is reshaping the Marvel Cinematic Universe, setting new records at the box office while garnering praise from critics, including us here at Looper. However, amidst its acclaim, the film presents an unusual scenario that demands attention. For more on this intriguing detail, check out our video above.

Jean Grey, portrayed by Sadie Sink, possesses the unsettling ability to enter people’s minds and govern their actions. In a strange twist, she taunts Peter, played by Tom Holland, while controlling an elderly man’s body. This leads the unsuspecting host into the path of an oncoming car—a startling moment for a couple of reasons. Not only does this act mark an abrupt dark shift for Jean early in the film, but the revelation that her sister was abducted by the Department of Damage Control partially explains her violent actions. Yet, targeting a random bystander rather than those responsible seems strikingly indiscriminate and cruel.

Peter’s response is equally surprising. As Jean heads towards MJ, portrayed by Zendaya, Peter pursues her without pausing to aid the injured man. With the turmoil of Jean’s pursuit and his own emerging powers, Peter’s departure from his usual conscientious self raises eyebrows, contrasting sharply with the Spider-Man everyone admires.

Fans have theories to justify the odd Spider-Man: Brand New Day scene

Viewers who have previously engaged with Looper’s explainer on Jean Grey will recognize her occasional villainous streaks in the comics, generally linked to the Dark Phoenix’s influence. However, in “Brand New Day,” she displays her darker side while still ostensibly a regular teenager, albeit one passionately driven to save her sister. This fleeting villainous role may have significant implications as the story potentially evolves towards an X-Men movie.

Redditor u/bigwreck94 suggests that Jean isn’t evil in the scene, just misguided: “This is a Jean Grey without the guidance of Charles Xavier. Not only does she not have the pacifist morals of Xavier’s teachings, but she also doesn’t have the full understanding and control of her abilities that his teachings provide.” Jean may have tried to kill that man because she doesn’t know any better. She sees Spider-Man working with Damage Control and wants him to back off so that she can save her sister.

And this moment, as well as Jean freezing a large chunk of New York in the film’s climax, could factor into a later X-Men movie. Traditionally, the world has feared mutants, even the X-Men who are trying to help them. But if a member of the X-Men is someone who hurt so many people, it would give humanity a solid reason to be fearful of them. Jean Grey will have to redeem herself in the MCU’s X-Men movie to show that she’s become a different person. Watch Looper’s video above to see how others have reacted to that controversial “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” moment.

Stacey King’s Tragic Passing: Cause of Death Unveiled for NBA Legend

0

The world bid farewell to a basketball legend on June 7, 2026, as Stacey King passed away.

WASHINGTON — Stacey King, a cherished figure both on and off the court, has had the circumstances surrounding his death unveiled. Known for clinching three NBA championships with the iconic Chicago Bulls lineup, King later endeared audiences as a spirited broadcaster.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office in Illinois has confirmed that King succumbed to hypertensive cardiovascular disease. While obesity contributed to his condition, his passing was classified as natural.

A standout from the outset, King was the sixth overall pick in the 1989 NBA draft, chosen by the Chicago Bulls.

During a golden era for the Bulls, King made his mark by earning the NBA All-Rookie Second Team accolade in 1990. He played a pivotal role in securing three successive championships from 1991 to 1993, sharing the court with basketball titan Michael Jordan.

King was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves in 1994 and played with several other franchises, including the Miami Heat, Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks, until he left the NBA in 1997.

King averaged 6.4 points and 3.3 rebounds in an eight-season playing career.

King went on to coach for a couple of years before becoming a television studio analyst and color commentator.

Nolan Wells Mystery: Unraveled Twists and Arrests Explained

0

In the whirlwind month since the tragic death of Mississippi college student Nolan Wells, this perplexing case has revealed one startling development after another, capturing public attention.

When the body of the 18-year-old was discovered along the serene shores of Horn Island shortly after a Fourth of July celebration, investigators initially found no evidence of foul play. However, Nolan’s grieving family remains relentless in their quest for clarity, citing inconsistencies in his final known activities that continue to stir their suspicions.

The mystery has only fueled rampant speculation and increased public intrigue. Following Nolan’s untimely passing, witnesses have come forward with accounts of receiving ominous threats; arrests have been made concerning those threats. Moreover, Nolan’s mother found herself unexpectedly embroiled in a brief and related investigation into her nursing license.

Here’s a comprehensive look at everything we currently know about this tragic incident and the status of the ongoing investigation:

What Happened to Nolan Wells?

Nolan vanished on the Fourth of July after joining friends for a gathering on Mississippi’s Horn Island, a remote and favored destination for celebratory escapades. The island’s desolate allure stands in stark contrast to the mystery surrounding Nolan’s last night.

Ashlee Cole, a judge and mom to Nolan’s friend Warren Hudson, said that her son last saw Nolan around 3 p.m. before the rest of the group decided to head back home after noticing a problem with their boat.

“The boat was taking on water and they had an issue with the bilge pump,” Cole wrote in a July 7 post on Facebook. “Nolan made a decision to stay on the island and return inland later with another group of friends.”

Nolan’s family reported him missing around 11 p.m. that night after receiving a call from one of his concerned friends, according to CNN.

Where Was Nolan Wells’ Body Found?

Nolan’s body was found two days later on the northwest shore of Horn Island. A July 6 statement from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said that “no foul play was suspected,” CNN reported.

United Cajun Navy President Todd Terrell—who piloted a seaplane in the search for the college student—described the island as a “dangerous area” due to its unique conditions.

“It was not uncommon for the body to have washed up right there,” Terrell told Crime Stories with Nancy Grace. “That area is full of rip currents, really strong right there. [It] goes from two to three foot to 20 feet, pretty much within a couple steps.”

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office noted in a July 8 update that they were working to “establish the facts through eyewitness accounts, physical evidence, and other reliable information” and asked anyone who may have seen Nolan or captured images of him that day to come forward.

“This remains an active and ongoing investigation,” they said. “We appreciate the community’s continued cooperation and ask everyone to refrain from spreading unverified information that could hinder investigative efforts.”

Oxygen reached out to Sheriff John Ledbetter for additional comment, but did not receive a reply.

Nolan Wells Cause of Death “Undetermined”

Jackson County Coroner Bruce Lynd told CNN that there were no immediate signs of injury on Nolan’s body. He requested that the autopsy be conducted by the state medical examiner’s office, who has yet to release their findings.

However, Nolan’s family commissioned their own independent autopsy by forensic pathologist Dr. Robert Mitchell.

The family’s attorney Ben Crump—who is conducting an independent review of the case— announced July 22 that the cause and manner of death in that autopsy had been listed as “undetermined,” noting that it didn’t appear that Nolan had suffered any fractures or deep tissue injuries, per The Associated Press.

Mitchell noted in the preliminary results of the autopsy that he was not able to rule out whether “non-accidental factors contributed to or caused the death.”

Oxygen reached out to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, where the state medical examiner’s office is housed, however, they declined to comment citing department policy. Lynd also did not return a request for comment.

Why Do Nolan Wells’ Parents Have Concerns About His Death?

Since his death, Nolan’s parents have been vocal about their concerns surrounding his death. His mom Christine Wonsley has questioned why Nolan would have left his cell phone behind on the boat—especially if his friends were leaving the island.

“I know my child well,” she told CNN. “If he has a phone out all the time at home, he’s definitely going to have a phone out whenever he’s out and he’s doing things with his friends.”

She questioned law enforcement’s statement that there were no signs of foul play, expressing concerns that they had rushed to judgement, according to the outlet.

His family also doesn’t understand why Nolan would have chosen to stay behind that day.

As his father Elmore Wonsley said, “We always taught him, ‘If you go with a group, you stay with the group.’”

What Have Nolan Wells’ Friends Said About the Day He Disappeared?

Nolan’s friend Tracestin Shepherd told ABC News that Nolan wanted to stay on the island because he met a girl. He said Nolan and the rest of their friends kept their phones on the boat because they were in salt water and didn’t want to ruin their devices.

Tracestin—who is biracial—denied doing anything to harm Nolan and disputed an assertion made by Crump that race could have played a factor in what happened that day.

“Nobody would ever hurt Nolan in our friend group. We would die for him,” he told the outlet. “We would do everything in our power for that guy. If he needed anything, we would do it.”

Tracestin has also insisted that he was the person heard yelling in a video, obtained by ABC News, showing some of the boats and people on the island that afternoon that was widely circulated on social media. Nolan’s parents have suggested that their son may have been heard yelling in the video as part of a possible argument.

Warren Hudson also described the public speculation as “hurtful.”

“It’s a sick world we’re living in,” he told The New York Post. “It’s terrible. Nolan was my best friend.”

Nolan Wells’ Witnesses Report Receiving Death Threats, Three Arrests Made

In the wake of Nolan’s death, those connected to the case, including his family, have reported receiving death threats, leading to three separate arrests.

Federal authorities announced the July 30 arrest of Joseph Alfredo Vasquez Dumarce of Sacramento after he allegedly sent Ashlee, a Chancery Court Judge, and her family bomb and death threats through Facebook, according to Mississippi Today.

He allegedly told the judge in one message that a bomb would be sent to her office that would “blow you away when you see it,” according to a complaint obtained by the outlet.

Joseph—a registered sex offender in California—is now facing a charge of interstate transmission of threatening communication.

The same day Joseph was arrested, Michelle Francine Edwards was arrested in Ohio for allegedly making dozens of bomb threats to the George County Chancery Clerk’s Office and Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, according to a complaint reviewed by WLOX.

In repeated calls to the clerk’s office, she allegedly made comments like “the clock is ticking” and “die,” authorities said.

Michelle is charged with one count of transmitting a threatening communication in interstate commerce.

A third person, Edward James Porter of Illinois, is also facing federal charges of transmitting a threatening communication in interstate commerce after allegedly threatening to kill or injure two witnesses, according to a complaint obtained by The Sun Herald.

In his case, federal prosecutors said he threatened to come kill one of Nolan’s friends and his family. He allegedly sent a text message with the witness’ home address, proving he knew where he lived, according to a complaint obtained by the outlet.

He’s also accused of calling a second witness and threatening to kill them, cut up the body and put it into a suitcase, prosecutors said.

Its not clear whether any of the accused have obtained attorneys to speak on their behalf.

Why Was Nolan Wells Mom Accused of Misconduct?

Along with the arrests, Nolan’s mother—who works as a nurse—found herself the subject of a misconduct investigation after a professional complaint was lodged against her by an anonymous source, according to WANE.

According to Crump, the complaint, which he called “frivolous” and “unfounded” was later closed by the Mississippi Board of Nursing.

“It was an attempt to distract a grieving mother and intimidate her into silence, filed by someone who would not put their name on it,” Crump said, according to the outlet. “That effort failed.”

The Mississippi Board of Nursing declined to provide any details of the complaint in a statement to Oxygen.

“All investigations are confidential and not subject to subpoena or record request,” the organization said Aug. 6. “The Board is legislatively charged with protecting the public and is complaint driven. As such, the Board is required by law to investigate any and all complaints filed with the Board.”

Where Does the Nolan Wells Investigation Stand Today?

Now, more than a month after Nolan disappeared, questions still remain about what happened that day.

The investigation by the sheriff’s office remains ongoing and Nolan’s official autopsy report by the state has yet to be released.

“We just want to know what happened,” Christine said in a July 11 press conference, per The Associated Press, “and why our baby didn’t come home.”

Crump has pledged that he and the family will not rest until they get answers.

“We are completely focused, completely laser focused on getting to the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth,” Crump said at a July 30 press conference, according to the AP. “The threats, the texts mean nothing to us, we will not be deterred.”

GAO Exposes $110B Savings Exaggeration by DOGE, Revealing Critical Errors

0

Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, in its mission to significantly cut federal expenditures last year, rolled out a dedicated website showcasing the claimed financial savings being passed onto taxpayers.

However, a recent assessment from the U.S. Government Accountability Office has cast doubt on these claims, revealing that the touted $110 billion savings might be remarkably overstated and lacking in credibility.

In its findings, the report highlighted that the Department of Government Efficiency was unable to substantiate 96% of its purported savings stemming from the cancellation of various grants.

Despite a commitment to full transparency, the investigation uncovered that the agency did not adhere to its prescribed methodology in calculating nearly half of the savings it reported.

“Due to the absence of a response from U.S. DOGE Service officials regarding information requests, GAO could not ascertain why DOGE failed to disclose issues related to data quality and limitations both at the site’s launch and thereafter,” the report elaborated.

The report also found DOGE failed to terminate some of the contracts it claimed to have canceled. According to the report, $27.4 billion in claimed savings was never executed, and DOGE did not provide identifying information for another $7.2 billion in claimed savings.

DOGE also claimed $1.7 billion in savings from an IT services contract for the Defense Department’s Defense Health Agency, but the report said no changes were ever made.

The report also said DOGE claimed savings from millions of dollars in leases that had already been identified for termination.

Musk has since left DOGE. ABC News reached out to Musk and the White House for comment but did not immediately receive a response.

Although DOGE formally ended on July 4, its “Wall of Receipts” remains online, claiming a total of $215 billion in taxpayer savings.

Ransom Notes Spark Surge in Tips: Sheriff Reports Progress in Nancy Guthrie Case Investigation

0

The release of these ransom notes has sparked a surge in public assistance, with authorities observing a noticeable increase in tips regarding Nancy Guthrie’s whereabouts.

While the authenticity of the ransom notes remains unverified, their publication has resulted in a “slight” rise in the number of tips from the public, according to a spokeswoman from the Pima County Sheriff’s Office. The complete contents of these purported ransom notes were made public on July 31.

“Following the release of the two ransom notes last week, investigators from the Nancy Guthrie Task Force have observed a mild increase in the flow of tips,” stated Angelica Carrillo, Public Information Officer for the Pima County Sheriff’s Office, in a statement to News Media. “Each tip is being meticulously investigated.”

As the search continues with no definitive answers, Savannah Guthrie, co-host of “Today,” and her family are appealing for greater public vigilance in hopes of locating her mother, Nancy Guthrie, who remains missing. (Courtesy of NBC)

The alleged ransom notes were sent on Feb. 2 and Feb. 6.

“Hello Savannah,” one of the notes read. “We have your mother Nancy. She is safe but scared. She will be held for ransom and once payment is received she will be released unharmed.”

“She had a white smart watch on the floor of the foot of her bed and the white flood light in backyard was destroyed,” it continued.

In a follow-up message sent to the Guthrie family, the alleged ransom notes states that Nancy Guthrie has passed away.

“We did not fully grasp the seriousness of her physical condition. We never intended to hurt her, that was not our intention. She perished shortly after she was taken. We believe it was heart related,” the purported ransom note states.

As previously noted, News Media has not independently verified the authenticity of the notes or their contents.

READ THE NOTES:

Alleged ransom note

The first purported Nancy Guthrie ransom demand was sent on Feb. 2, a day after her suspected abduction in Tucson, according to authorities.

Second alleged ransom note

The second message was sent on Feb. 6, and authorities say it shares the same “unique linguistic style” as the original ransom demand.

News Media learned of the watch on the morning of Tuesday, Feb. 3, a day after the note was sent, according to authorities. That timeline suggests the sender knew about the watch before the detail became public.

Jason Pack, a retired FBI negotiator, said the watch detail demonstrates familiarity with the house but not necessarily knowledge unique to Guthrie or proof that she was alive.

This image released by the FBI shows an armed individual who appears to have a light emitting from his mouth at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance in Tucson, Arizona, Sunday, February 1, 2026. (Provided by FBI)

“He knew about the watch on the floor — almost nobody did,” Pack said. “In my view, two things the language does support: He writes like a native English speaker. The idiom and the small connecting words are all in the right places, and at this length that is hard to fake.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 1-800-CALL-FBI, or 520-88-CRIME to remain anonymous.

Father of Teen Suspect Arrested by DeLand Police in Connection to Double Homicide Case

EUSTIS, Fla. – Authorities in DeLand have detained a second individual tied to a chilling double murder case that shocked the downtown area last month, where two men were fatally shot.

Early Friday morning, police apprehended Daytron W. Etkins, 41, at his home on Bates Avenue in Eustis. He faces charges of felony accessory after the fact in the ongoing inquiry into the killings. During the arrest, investigators also carried out a comprehensive search of the premises.

Authorities revealed that Etkins is the father of Keyan Rundell, the 17-year-old already in custody, facing two charges of second-degree murder related to the deaths of victims Dustin Rose and Samson Campbell.

The police allege that Etkins played a crucial role in aiding his son post-homicide, actively attempting to hinder law enforcement from apprehending him. The arrest was a collaborative effort between DeLand police and Lake County law enforcement agencies.

Rundell’s capture occurred on Wednesday, when detectives from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office found him staying at a Super 8 Motel in Ellenton. The arrest was executed smoothly at 8:30 a.m. under the authority of an outstanding warrant from another county.

U.S. Marshals announced the arrest, and DeLand Police Chief Jason Umberger confirmed it at a news conference Wednesday afternoon.

Top 4 Wall Exercises to Quickly Flatten Your Lower Belly After 55, Better Than Sit-Ups

Enhance the strength and shape of your lower abdomen with these effortless wall exercises.

>

As you enter your 50s, achieving a flat stomach often emerges as a challenging yet common aspiration. At this age, a slower metabolism, hormonal changes, and natural muscle loss can stand in your way. However, these obstacles don’t make the goal unattainable. With determination, progress is within reach. To provide expert guidance, we consulted Jacob Siwicki, who is not only the founder and head coach of Siwicki Fitness but also holds certifications from NCSF and AFAA. Siwicki, a standout among Equinox group fitness instructors in 2019, is renowned for his #1 ranking as a personal trainer in D.C. in 2021. As a Dartmouth economics graduate and former football player, he now frequently appears as a fitness expert on FOX 5 DC, sharing insights on how to firm and strengthen your lower abdomen.

Before we delve into the specifics, it’s crucial to recognize that fat can’t be lost from just one area; rather, it’s shed from all over the body.

“These exercises target the muscles beneath, enhancing posture and providing a more supported midsection appearance,” Siwicki notes. “Ultimately, fat loss hinges on nutrition, physical activity, quality sleep, and persistence,” he adds. “I selected these exercises because the wall acts as a support, but doesn’t perform the work for you. You need to engage your abs and control your pelvis, but with less strain on the neck, back, wrists, and shoulders compared to floor exercises.”

Here are four wall exercises that can help reduce lower belly fat more effectively than traditional sit-ups, especially for those over 55.

Teen Girl’s Desperate Cry for Mother After Boyfriend Shoots Her for Asking Ride Home

0

Background: The scene of the incident in Beaverton, Oregon (KPTV/YouTube). Inset: Sky Alexander Korbut (Beaverton Police Department).

In a distressing episode in Oregon, a young girl anticipated a simple ride from her boyfriend but ended up taking a harrowing trip to the hospital after he shot her. The girl’s urgent text messages to her mother were pivotal pieces of evidence during the trial.

Sky Alexander Korbut, now 20 years old, faces almost six years imprisonment as declared by the Oregon Department of Corrections. The Beaverton Police Department reported that a jury found him guilty of second-degree assault along with illegal firearm possession in April.

This troubling event took place in Beaverton’s Southwest Prairie Terrace area, just outside Portland, early on the morning of November 21, 2024, around 4:50 a.m. Korbut and his 16-year-old girlfriend were in his apartment at that time.

According to court records reviewed by Portland’s NBC partner KGW, the girl had come over asking for a lift home. Korbut, who was tidying his room, placed a gun atop a dog kennel before showing it to her. She reacted by telling him to “get it out of her face” and pushed it away.

Korbut shot the girl seconds later, according to prosecutors.

After she was shot, the girl texted her mother in a panic.

“I got shot,” read one text, followed by “Mama” and “Plz” and “Help me,” a screenshot shared with regional Fox affiliate KPTV shows. Her mom had been asking for her location and had just texted her, “I thought u coming home.”

Korbut called 911 and told dispatchers that “he had accidentally shot” his girlfriend, the Beaverton Police Department recounted. Officers showed up at the home and found the girl “suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. She was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries.”

A GoFundMe set up for the girl said she “was shot in her stomach” and it affected “many organs and parts in her body.” Court documents said the bullet hit her intestines, gallbladder, liver, and pancreas, and she “needed 20 liters of blood.”

Though doctors apparently told her family “there was a chance she might not make it,” the girl survived.

The suspect-turned-felon was initially arrested and charged with third-degree assault. However, as the investigation progressed, that charge was upgraded after “detectives uncovered additional evidence, including statements provided by the victim that contradicted Korbut’s account of the shooting.”

Korbut told authorities that he had bought the Smith & Wesson handgun illegally from someone “on the street” after failing background checks, according to court records. He seemed perplexed that the gun fired, saying he was “waving” the gun while moving it when “somehow, the gun went off.”
