Remembering Rodger Brulotte: Iconic TV and Radio Personality Passes Away Following Battle with Spinal Cancer

Renowned broadcaster Rodger Brulotte has passed away at the age of 79, following a brief battle with cancer. A cherished figure in radio and television, Brulotte was best known as the voice of the Montreal Expos baseball team. After undergoing surgery last September to remove a cancerous tumor from his back, the disease unfortunately resurfaced in recent months. Baseball Québec’s general manager, Maxime Lamarche, confirmed the sad news, reflecting: “Rodger had a very big heart, and he used it selflessly in service of others. His generosity touched generations of players, coaches, and volunteers. We will remember him as a unifying and deeply humane man.”

Pierre Karl Péladeau, president and CEO of Québecor, also honored Brulotte’s memory, stating: “Rodger’s authenticity and kindness made him a beloved figure in the hearts of Quebecers. He brought passion to his work and a rare ability to connect with people. Rodger helped shape the Journal de Montréal’s identity. He was — and always will be — one of its most iconic voices.”

“It was a privilege to be able to count on him during all these years — as a respected columnist for the Journal, a gifted broadcaster on TVA Sports, and above all a friend,” Péladeau added.

He further expressed, “On behalf of everyone at Quebecor, I extend our deepest sympathies to his wife Pascale Vallée and to all his loved ones and colleagues. He will be profoundly missed.”

Quebec Premier François Legault also paid homage to Brulotte on social media, recalling him as a “kind man” and reminiscing on the joy of watching baseball games together.

He continued: “I already miss his ‘Good evening, it is gone!’ A line that will forever be etched in our collective memory.

“Always present at philanthropic events with his ‘Tour partout’ column, he was also very involved with young people at the Foundation for Educational Encouragement.

“I still treasure a baseball he gave me for my birthday. My condolences to his wife Pascale, his family, and his dear friend Michel Bergeron,” he concluded.

Montreal-born Rodger becan his working life as a scout for the Montreal Expos in 1969 but moved into braodcasting in 1984 when he was hired by radio station CKAC to serve as colour commentator.

He went on to enjoy a four decade career in radio and television as well writing columns for the Journal de Montréal over the years.

Trump Responds to the Passing of Robert Mueller: ‘I’m Glad

In response to the news of former special counsel Robert Mueller’s passing, former President Donald Trump took to Truth Social, expressing his relief. Trump’s post, which read, “Glad he’s dead,” underscores his ongoing animosity toward Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election and any ties to Trump’s campaign.

Trump’s exact words were, “Robert Mueller just died. Good, I’m glad he’s dead. He can no longer hurt innocent people!” This statement highlights his enduring resentment toward Mueller’s role in the probe.

Mueller, who passed away on Friday night at the age of 81, was assigned by then-acting Attorney General Rod Rosenstein in May 2017 to lead the investigation into Russian meddling. This appointment followed closely on the heels of Trump’s dismissal of James Comey as the FBI director.

The investigation gained traction in June 2017 when The Washington Post reported that Mueller was examining Trump for potential obstruction of justice. This development came after James Comey’s congressional testimony, where he alleged that Trump pressured him to halt the FBI’s inquiry into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

Just a month after these revelations, Trump publicly criticized Mueller in a New York Times interview, accusing his office of having conflicts of interest and cautioning against expanding the investigation beyond Russian interference.

The next several months were characterized by a series of arrests and indictments of figures in Trump’s orbit, including Flynn; his former campaign chair, Paul Manafort; Manafort’s former business partner, Richard Gates; and former Trump campaign aide George Papadopoulos.

In April 2018, federal investigators raided the apartment, hotel room and office of Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen. Investigators reportedly sought records related to the 2005 “Access Hollywood” tape that was released shortly before the presidential election and other evidence that had been concealed because it was potentially damaging to Trump.

The investigation continued, and in November of that year, Trump submitted written answers to Mueller about “issues regarding the Russia-related topics of the inquiry,” capping months of back-and-forth over how much the president would cooperate.

Roger Stone, an informal adviser to Trump’s presidential campaign, was indicted in January of 2019, as Mueller’s probe neared its conclusion.

The 22-month investigation culminated in a 448-page report that found the Trump campaign did not conspire or coordinate with the Russian government to interfere in the 2016 election. Mueller declined, however, to conclude whether Trump had obstructed justice.

“As set forth in our report, after that investigation, if we had confidence that the President clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said that,” Muller said in 2019 when the investigation was finished. “We did not, however, make a determination as to whether the President did commit a crime.”

The investigation became a prime target of Trump’s, with the president regularly lashing out at Mueller and labeling the probe a “witch hunt,” “hoax,” and other pejoratives. He maintained it was politically motivated, a claim he continues to echo nearly seven years later.

In the waning months of his first term, Trump granted clemency to Papadopoulos and Dutch lawyer Alex van der Zwaan. He also pardoned Flynn, a decision former White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said at the time “sets right an injustice against an innocent man and an American hero.”

Trump’s cold response to Mueller’s death on Saturday quickly drew strong backlash online.

“Every day, this president shows his basic indecency and unfitness for office,” Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) wrote on the social platform X.

“The cruelty is the point,” Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) wrote on X. “Trump’s goal is to distract you from rising gas prices, his aimless war, ICE abuses, and the Epstein files. Don’t give him what he wants. And may Robert Mueller, a US Marine and lifelong public servant, rest in peace.”

Trump faced similar condemnation, including from some Republicans, in December when he suggested that director Rob Reiner and his wife, who were stabbed to death in their home, had died from “Trump derangement syndrome.”

Community Outrage: Controversial 110-Home Development Near Yosemite Sparks Debate Over 24-Foot Structures

0

The prospect of developing 110 residential units near Yosemite National Park has stirred significant opposition within a California community, as experts caution that the undertaking may pose substantial risks.

Outrage has been sparked by a proposal to install over 100 prefabricated homes on a 31-acre parcel just north of the park’s southern gateway. Mariposa County planning documents, as reported by the Daily Mail, indicate that 20 percent of these homes are intended for low-income families.

Officials have disclosed that the development would encompass 120 parking spaces and 95 two-story residences, each rising approximately 24 feet.

The remaining homes are designed as single-story buildings, standing around 12 feet tall, collectively forming a residential zone near the community of Yosemite West, which is accessible solely via roads managed by the Park Service.

However, a chorus of voices including experts, local residents, agencies, and environmentalists are raising red flags. They point to potential water shortages, heightened wildfire risks, overcrowded educational facilities, insufficient healthcare resources, and environmental concerns as pressing issues.

‘This doesn’t just fail the common sense test. It’s irresponsible and dangerous,’ Neal Desai, Pacific regional director at the National Parks Conservation Association, said in an email against the project.

Homeowner John Hipskind agreed, adding: ‘I’d be shocked if I found someone who’s in support of this.’

The developer, Camp Yosemite LLC, has faced nothing but backlash for its bold plan to establish a long-term living community near the iconic park.

Desai slammed the proposal as being out of step with conservation goals and warned that it comes at a time when ‘Yosemite is in a major crisis.’

He questioned Camp Yosemite’s plan to build residential homes instead of a hotel or inn, warning that the move appears designed to exploit California’s builder’s remedy.

The law lets developers sidestep local rules, speeding up housing projects that might otherwise face delays.

In short, hotels or inns don’t qualify – meaning the developer may be relying on permanent residences to get around the rules.

John Mock and Kimberley O’Neil, Yosemite West property owners, revealed that this is the second attempt in 30 years to develop these parcels.

‘The first attempt failed and the history of this remains pertinent today,’ the pair wrote.

Some of these worries were shared by Hipskind, who stressed that building long-term housing units, particularly low-income ones, would not work in an area lacking public transit and steady job opportunities.

Because Yosemite West and Mariposa County offer few employment options, many new low-income residents would be forced to travel 90 minutes or more to work in Fresno.

‘Low-income households particularly depend on local services,’ he wrote. ‘Job scarcity creates economic instability and potential foreclosure risk.’

Both Mock and O’Neil agreed with his assertion, arguing that the proposed project ‘does does not appear to genuinely provide affordable housing.’

Instead, they said the units look more like a ‘glamping’ hotel for short-term stays, with the supposed ‘low-income’ units possibly meant for staff.

Robert and Cindy Kroon, longtime residents, called the project’s low-income housing ‘disguise’ a false premise.

‘There is little or no full-time work. Any available work is seasonal at best. Yosemite West is a remote place where residents are on their own,’ the couple wrote.

‘There are no food deliveries. There are no grocery stores within 14 miles. There is no gas station within 14 miles. There’s no post office,’ they added.

‘It is foolish to think that low-income housing residents would be able to afford the fuel and time for children, much less just survival, living in an area with no supporting services around for miles.’

One of Hipskind’s top concerns is that the development could drain the already scarce water supply, putting the region at serious risk.

A top concern is that the development could drain the already scarce water supply

A resident argued that the application does not prove there is enough water to serve an additional 110 residents

Yosemite West relies on independent water systems with limited capacity, and Hipskind argued that the application does not prove there is enough water to serve an additional 110 residents.

The sudden population boom, Hipskind said, would push schools, hospitals, fire and sheriff services and utilities to their limits.

He said the infrastructure is already near breaking point, and a 40 percent population increase would severely strain the services residents rely on for safety and sanitation.

Firewise coordinator Adam Emken warned that the biggest problem with the development is its ‘evacuation capacity.’

He described Yosemite West as having several hazardous features, such as dense forest and steep terrain that can quickly spread fires.

The lone road out of the community, Emken warned, could also become a deadly trap.

‘Even when warnings are received, a single roadway out of the community could quickly become impassable due to congestion, downed trees, smoke conditions or advancing fire,’ he wrote.

Many outraged community members pointed out the same issue, including longtime business owner Matthew Adams, who said that the whole proposal essentially ‘looks like a fire trap.’

Some highlighted the deadly 2018 Ferguson Fire near Yosemite, which tore through the area for over a month, killing two and injuring 19.

‘Distance from suppression forces, heavy fuels, steep slopes, hot dry weather conditions and a history of lightning-ignited fires (projected to increase by 22 percent by 2050), could combine to lead to a large, rapidly moving crown fire that would threaten the entire community and place life and property at great risk,’ Mock and O’Neil wrote.

‘The community faced such a threat in the 2018 Ferguson Fire,’ they added.

Lot owners Richard and Patricia Jarrett wrote: ‘In light of the Ferguson Fire, firefighters were trapped inside Yosemite West because there was only one road out of the community.

‘Having additional structures and people outside the community will only serve to impact the ability of firefighters and emergency response personnel should another fire encircle the community again.’

Resident Dr Hilary Bagshaw cautioned that these problems are far from procedural – they threaten the very heart of the community’s health and safety.

‘As a physician, I understand the implications of inadequate resources on public health,’ Bagshaw wrote.

‘As a community member, I feel the collective anxiety of my neighbors and as a concerned citizen, I implore all stakeholders to reconsider this development with the utmost scrutiny,’ she added.

Local agencies also shared concerns over the project’s feasibility – particularly regarding roads, water and sewage systems, wildfire risks and traffic.

Preliminary planning documents revealed that the project would need entirely new water and sewage systems, and the road plans fall short of basic topographical standards.

The site borders 900 acres linked to the Southern Sierra Miwuk tribe – also prompting alarm. Tribal member Ursula Phillips blasted the lack of environmental review and called for a full impact report and cultural and historical studies.

On behalf of the Southern Sierra Miwuk Nation, Sandra Chapman said generations of ancestors lived in the area, sustained by the natural resources the land provided.

‘Our tribal government and people have persevered,’ she wrote. ‘We know, respect and care for our sacred places and our ancestral village areas in the Yosemite National Park.’

Tribal Member Aanthony Lerma added that their ‘bloodline has withstood hundreds of years of being systematically hunted, murdered, built over and persecuted.

‘The blatant disregard for the potential environmental destruction of building 110 small modular structures into the hillside with the intended road access destroying a creek is environmentally irresponsible.’ He added: ‘Nature has the right to exist.

‘The irony of the continued destruction from colonialism has become too apparent to ignore.’

Mock and O’Neil raised concerns that the development could harm local ecosystems, threatening endangered species and destroying their habitats.

Resident Nathanial Abrahams agreed, adding: ‘I would like to see our county stand up against outside investors exploiting our natural resources in such egregious, irresponsible ways.’

Suspicions are growing about the project’s real purpose, as the developers’ past appears murky, according to the Mariposa Gazette.

The project is led by disbarred former attorney Ben Eilenberg, who lost his license in California in 2018, and Craig Martin Smith, a former plastic surgeon.

The pair have a history of working together. Just last year, their company, The Mission LLC, sued Santa Barbara County over property taxes – and is now attempting to use the builder’s remedy to force through an eight-story apartment complex.

‘It really it makes people question what’s going on and what are the real intentions,’ Desai said.

Tragic Teen Murder: Lured by Fake Party, Killed for Designer Gun in Shocking Scheme

In a tragic incident that has shocked the community, a teenager from California was brutally murdered after being deceived by a group posing as friends. The young victim was enticed to a disclosed location with the promise of a party, only to be fatally shot in a plot to steal his “Louis Vuitton” branded pistol, according to officials.

“It was wrapped with a Louis Vuitton wrap,” explained Fresno Police Chief Mindy Casto during a Monday press conference about the gun that 18-year-old Karim Williams was allegedly killed for.

“The weapon was marked with the designer logos, making it highly coveted,” explained Detective Casto. “Our investigation points to this being the reason it was targeted by the assailants.”

The case has led to charges against six individuals, among them a 13-year-old and a 17-year-old. At a press conference on Monday, Fresno County District Attorney Lisa Smittcamp named four of those charged: Jaylon Black, 21, Kwame Pree, 20, Jaymari Sconiers, 20, and Josiah Rogers, 19.

“These perpetrators are young, just children and teenagers,” Smittcamp emphasized. “Yet they have committed this senseless act of violence that has devastated a family and a community.”

Detective Casto revealed that the suspects were known to the victim, Kari, and had orchestrated the ruse to lure him to the scene under the guise of attending a party. Tragically, his life was taken at the Park View Apartments in northwest Fresno, where his body was later discovered.

“They proceeded to rob and murder him,” Casto said. “The subjects had rummaged through Kari’s pockets after he was shot and down on the ground before they left the location in several vehicles.”

Casto said that “over a thousand hours of investigation,” multiple witness interviews, and two dozen search warrants — both physical and forensic — led to the suspects’ arrests last week. Two of the individuals were already in custody on unrelated charges.

“They’re being charged with robbery and murder, and facing possible gang enhancement charges as well,” Casto said. “Although this was not a crime amongst rival gang members, it was an internal issue that resulted in Kari’s robbery and murder.”

The gun that Williams was allegedly killed for was described as a “Sig Sauer pistol,” according to Casto.

“[Williams] was senselessly murdered over a gun,” Smittcamp said. “These senseless acts of violence are really just disturbing for all of us. Not only for Kari’s family and friends, but for the entire community.”

Under California law, when individuals participate together in certain felonies — namely robbery — and that act results in a killing, each participant can be held accountable for murder, according to Smittcamp.

“Justice in this case is now going to move forward in both the juvenile and adult courts where we will present the evidence and try to pursue accountability for Kari and his family, and continue to work to protect the community,” the local DA said.

Smittcamp told reporters that while the 13-year-old will remain in juvenile court, the 17-year-old suspect is now 18 and her office is working to transfer him to adult court, where he is expected to face 25 years to life if convicted.

“If he is not successfully transferred into adult court, his maximum [sentence] would be four to seven years,” Smittcamp said.

Pree faces charges of murder, robbery and firearm enhancements and could face up to 100 years to life in prison if convicted, according to Smittcamp. Black was charged with murder and robbery and faces up to 25 years to life; Sconiers was charged with murder and robbery and faces up to 50 years to life; Rogers was charged with murder and robbery and faces up to 50 years to life.

Tragic Explosions at Market and Hospital Spark Concerns Over Potential Boko Haram Resurgence in Nigeria

0

A devastating series of suicide bombings in Maiduguri, Nigeria, claimed the lives of at least 23 individuals and left over 100 injured, according to officials on Tuesday. The attacks have reignited concerns about ongoing religious persecution, as pointed out by a leader of a Christian nonprofit organization.

These tragic events, reported by the Associated Press, marked one of the most severe assaults on Maiduguri in recent times. Explosions ripped through bustling areas on Monday night, including a major marketplace and the entrance to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, located in the capital city of Borno state.

In a statement, Borno police spokesperson Nahum Kenneth Daso confirmed that the explosion victims suffered “varying degrees of injuries” and attributed the attacks to suspected suicide bombers.

President Bola Tinubu, who embarked on a two-day state visit to the United Kingdom on Tuesday, extended his sympathies to the victims. He also directed security officials to “take charge of the situation” in Maiduguri to prevent further incidents.

The attacks, believed to be carried out by suicide bombers, struck a busy market and other key locations in Maiduguri, resulting in significant casualties. Three explosions occurred on the evening of March 16, 2026, shortly after residents broke their Ramadan fasts, targeting a central market, the entrance to the city’s largest teaching hospital, and a post office.  (Photo by AFP via Getty Images)

“The Monday attacks were desperate acts of the evil-minded terrorist groups,” Tinubu said. “Our gallant military and civilian task forces will curtail and put them down.”

While no group has claimed responsibility, the AP reported suspicion has fallen on the Boko Haram jihadi group, which launched an insurgency in northeastern Nigeria in 2009 to enforce its radical interpretation of Shariah law.

Since launching its insurgency, Boko Haram has grown stronger, with thousands of fighters and multiple factions, some aligned with the Islamic State group.

The explosions on Monday night began at about 7:30 p.m. at the entrance of the teaching hospital. A few minutes later, a second and third blast followed at the Monday Market and a nearby post office hub, both about 2.5 miles from the hospital.

Caleb Jonah, who survived the explosion at the hospital entrance, told the AP he suffered injuries to his legs and hands.

“I was coming to the hospital to check (in on) a patient when I saw two men struggling with the security men at the gate,” Jonah said. “Before I could process what was going on I heard the deafening blast and I passed out.”

Brad Brandon, CEO and founder of Across Nigeria, said the attack was personal. His organization is committed to transforming Nigeria and the surrounding regions by sharing the love of God through Jesus Christ, according to the group’s website.

“As the CEO and founder of Across Nigeria, these recent attacks in Maiduguri are personal and a stark reminder that the devastating violence continues in northern Nigeria,” he said in a statement. “This is the result of radical Islamic groups that are allowed to operate unchecked. The only question is, how many more must be killed, before the world wakes up to the genocide that slaughters thousands of Christians every year.”

“We condemn these violent acts and the perpetrators who commit them,” he added. “We also call on the U.S. Government to intervene and the media to embrace their role in bringing light to the hidden things of darkness.”

While Maiduguri has been at the center of deadly violence in Nigeria, it has experienced relative peace in recent years, even as extremists batter the countryside.

Monday’s attack took place less than 24 hours after the Nigerian military repelled attacks by militants outside Maiduguri.

By Tuesday morning, heavy security had been deployed to the affected locations and along major roads.

SNL UK Debuts with Scathing Satire of Ex-Prince Andrew, Capturing Audiences and Headlines

The debut episode of “Saturday Night Live UK” aired recently, and it wasted no time in tackling the controversy surrounding Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

In the premiere of the Weekend Update segment, hosts Ania Magliano and Paddy Young pulled no punches as they discussed the former prince. Earlier this year, Andrew was arrested on allegations of misconduct in public office after documents related to Jeffrey Epstein surfaced.

Prior to these allegations, Andrew had already faced significant consequences, losing his royal title and being asked to vacate his residence at the Royal Lodge in Windsor.

Magliano kicked off the segment with a line that drew a strong reaction from the audience: “Coming up on Weekend Update: pedophilia. But first, war!”

After a series of jokes about the situation in Iran, the hosts shifted their focus back to Andrew, who is now set to reside permanently at Marsh Farm on King Charles’ Sandringham Estate.

“Renovations to Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s new home, Marsh Farm, have been taking place over the last month, including the installation of Sky TV. So, if you’re watching this Andrew, hello!” Magliano joked. “You’re not gonna like this next bit. Also, I’m older than I look.

“Andrew’s new residence, Marsh Farm, is of course named after the nearby marsh where his body will be found.”

“It was reported this week that the police investigation into Andrew is set to widen,” Young said. “The big question now is, if Andrew is charged, found guilty and put in prison, will he be able to keep his mouth shut? I hope not, said his cellmate’s penis.”

The segment also briefly turned its attention to another high-profile British family: the Beckhams.

“Feuding father and son David and Brooklyn Beckham narrowly missed each other whilst at the same Beverly Hills hotel,” Young began. “The feud began when Victoria was, quote, ‘inappropriately’ close with her son at his wedding, and escalated after Brooklyn accidentally yelled out his wife’s name during sex with his mum.”

The episode marked the UK debut of the long-running American variety show. The British version follows the same structure, with a celebrity host, live sketches, and musical performances.

Ahead of its premiere, the series had already received a vote of confidence from its network, Sky.

Initially planned as a six-episode run, it was expanded to eight 75-minute episodes, with each installment written and rehearsed in the week leading up to its live broadcast.

The first episode was hosted by Tina Fey, who wrote for and starred in the US version between 1997 and 2006. Music for the night came from Wet Leg.

Future episodes are set to feature hosts including Jamie Dornan and Riz Ahmed, with musical guests Wolf Alice and Kasabian.

Alongside Weekend Update hosts Magliano and Young, the show’s main cast is made up of Hammed Animashaun, Ayoade Bamgboye, Larry Dean, Celeste Dring, George Fouracres, Annabel Marlow, Al Nash, Jack Shep and Emma Sidi.

When the show was announced, a press release teased what’s to come from the series, saying, “Together, this first wave of hosts, musical guests and cast members marks the beginning of a bold new chapter for the globally acclaimed ‘SNL’ franchise — blending its storied legacy with a fresh generation of British comedy voices.”

Cuba Faces Third Power Grid Collapse This Month, Leaving Nation Without Electricity

HAVANA (AP) — On Saturday, a widespread power failure plunged Cuba into darkness for the third time this March, as the nation grapples with aging infrastructure and the challenges posed by a U.S. oil embargo.

The Cuban Electric Union, under the Ministry of Energy and Mines, reported a complete blackout affecting the entire island, though they initially did not specify what caused the outage.

Later, the union identified the root of the problem as an unexpected malfunction at the Nuevitas thermoelectric plant located in Camagüey province.

A report from the Ministry of Energy and Mines detailed that the failure triggered a domino effect, impacting other machines that were operational. In response, “micro-islands” of power units were activated to ensure electricity for critical services, including hospitals and water systems.

Authorities assured the public that efforts were underway to restore power across the country.

Power outages, whether nationwide or regional, have become relatively common in the last two years due to breakdowns in the aging infrastructure. The breakdowns are compounded by daily blackouts of up to 12 hours caused by fuel shortages, which also destabilize the system.

The last nationwide blackout occurred on Monday. Saturday’s outage was the second in the past week and the third in March.

The blackouts have a significant impact on the population, whose lives are disrupted by reduced work hours, lack of electricity for cooking and food spoilage when refrigerators stop working, among many other consequences. In some cases, hospitals have canceled surgeries.

President Miguel Díaz-Canel has said the island has not received oil from foreign suppliers for three months. Cuba produces barely 40% of the fuel it needs to power its economy.

Cuba’s aging grid has drastically eroded in recent years. But the government has also blamed the outages on a U.S. energy blockade after U.S. President Donald Trump in January warned of tariffs on any country that sells or provides oil to Cuba. The Trump administration is demanding that Cuba release political prisoners and move toward political and economic liberalization in return for a lifting of sanctions. Trump also has raised the possibility of a “friendly takeover of Cuba.”

Another reason Cuba has been struggling with dwindling oil is the removal of Venezuela’s leader, which halted critical petroleum shipments from the nation that had been a steadfast ally to Havana.

Trump has for months suggested Cuba’s government is on the verge of collapse. After a previous time Cuba’s electric grid collapsed, Trump told reporters he believed he’d soon have “the honor of taking Cuba.”

Floor Collapse at New Hampshire Wedding Venue Leaves Six Injured

0

In Tamworth, New Hampshire, a wedding celebration turned alarming when a floor gave way at a local venue, resulting in six individuals being transported to nearby hospitals with injuries that were not life-threatening. The incident occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, according to a representative from the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

The structural failure took place amidst a gathering of around 140 wedding attendees, as detailed in a joint statement by the Tamworth Fire/Rescue Department and the Fire Marshal’s Office. Thankfully, no deaths were reported, and by late Saturday, four of the hospitalized individuals had already been discharged.

Efforts to reach the venue, the Preserve at Chocorua, were unsuccessful as phone calls went unanswered. Situated in Tamworth, a community of roughly 2,800 residents located about 115 miles (185 kilometers) north of Concord, New Hampshire, and not far from Maine’s western border, the area faced communication challenges. Attempts to contact MaineHealth Memorial Hospital on Saturday evening also yielded no response.

According to the Fire Marshal’s Office, over 100 guests were in the Sap House building when a sudden collapse created a 20-by-20-foot gap, plunging approximately 70 people into the basement. The chaos left several individuals trapped under fallen beams and farm equipment stored below.

Before emergency personnel arrived, fellow guests and staff members sprang into action, using ladders to help those who had fallen climb out of the basement and providing first aid for minor injuries. The exact number of individuals treated at the scene remains unclear as investigators continue to assess the situation.

A photo from the Fire Marshal’s Office shows a chandelier and white bunting decorating the ceiling above the buckled floor boards, as well as stacked benches that had been used for seating for the wedding before the collapse.

The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the collapse along with the Tamworth Fire/Rescue Department, a spokesperson said Saturday. Investigators believe the building “was over capacity” prior to the floor collapse, a spokesperson said in a release.

A first responder who arrived on scene shortly after 911 calls came in described half the floor of the building where the wedding ceremony was set to take place as having fallen into the basement over scanner traffic listened to on Broadcastify. Could Caleb McLaughlin Swing into the MCU as Miles Morales? Unraveling the Spider-Man Buzz!

Since Miles Morales made his debut in the Marvel Universe, fans have been eagerly speculating who could best portray the dynamic character on screen. Names like Donald Glover and Jaden Smith have surfaced in these discussions, and following the breakout success of Netflix’s “Stranger Things,” Caleb McLaughlin has become a popular choice among fans.

McLaughlin’s association with the role of Miles has fueled countless debates and discussions online, with many arguing he’s the perfect candidate for a live-action adaptation. In 2019, fan art depicting McLaughlin as Miles appeared on Reddit, receiving overwhelming support and enthusiasm from fans. One user commented, “I really want him to play Miles Morales; he’s awesome in ‘Stranger Things.’”

However, there’s a concern that McLaughlin might outgrow the teenage role of Miles if casting doesn’t occur soon. Hollywood, though, often casts older actors in teen roles—take “The O.C.,” where actors in their mid-20s portrayed high schoolers. The pressing question remains: Is the Marvel Cinematic Universe prepared to introduce Miles Morales?

With “Stranger Things” wrapped up, McLaughlin may have the availability for new projects, such as portraying Miles Morales. Yet, it’s ultimately his decision if this aligns with his career aspirations.

Encouragingly, McLaughlin has expressed interest in the role on several occasions. During the February 2026 premiere of his film “Goat,” he shared with Variety his admiration for the character. McLaughlin stated, “I would love to play Miles. I think Miles represents something bigger than myself; it represents something bigger than most people. Also, being from New York and then just seeing the ‘Spider-Verse’ story, I just feel it’s really, really connected and I feel like a lot of people understand what that means.”

Caleb McLaughlin confirmed he wants to play Miles Morales

Even though the “Stranger Things” series finale provided plot holes that are hard to ignore, the show is over. It’s done and dusted. Without the series commitment, Caleb McLaughlin could have some extra time on his hands to play, say, Miles Morales. Ultimately, though, it’s up to the actor if that’s even one of his goals.

The good news is that McLaughlin has said he’d be down to play Miles a few times already. In February 2026, during the premiere of his film “Goat,” the actor told Variety all about his adoration of the character and why he’d welcome the opportunity to play him. “I would love to play Miles,” McLaughlin said, adding, “I think Miles represents something bigger than myself; it represents something bigger than most people. Also, being from New York and then just seeing the ‘Spider-Verse’ story, I just feel it’s really, really connected and I feel like a lot of people understand what that means.”

McLaughlin also shared videos of him doing acrobatic work on his Instagram account. Watching him in motion, there’s only one thought that comes to mind: Yeah, that’s Spidey right there.
