Los Angeles police were called to Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff’s reported $8 million Malibu, California, residence after a woman was accused of trying to gain access to the couple’s secluded property.

The Los Angeles Police Department arrived at the former vice president’s upscale Malibu home at about 10.30pm on Friday following a report of an unidentified woman outside the residence, TMZ first reported.

Harris does not currently have Secret Service protection. Her security detail was revoked by Trump in August 2025, several months before it was otherwise expected to expire.

‘Last night, security personnel stopped an individual who illegally entered Vice President Harris and Second Gentleman Emhoff’s property before the individual reached the home,’ Eduardo Negrón, a spokesperson for Harris, told the outlet.

‘Vice President Harris and Second Gentleman Emhoff were not present,’ he added. ‘They are grateful to the security and law enforcement personnel who responded swiftly.’

According to The Los Angeles Times, Harris’ on-site security staff alerted the LAPD after reporting that the woman had reached the front door of the Malibu property.

A spokesperson for the sheriff’s department told The New York Post that the woman was dropped off by an Uber before she approached security at the home shared by Harris and Emhoff.

She initially agreed to leave after talking with security, according to reports, but allegedly returned a short time later. Security then contacted the LAPD, which handles policing in Malibu.

When deputies arrived, the woman once again complied with their request to leave the property. 

Investigators have not revealed the woman’s identity or why she allegedly attempted to breach the property. No arrests or citations were made. 

‘We are stepping up patrols of the property to be safe,’ Lt Jason Duron, a watch commander at the Malibu/Lost Hills sheriff’s station, said, according to the LA Times.

It remains unclear whether the California Highway Patrol is still helping to guard Harris or whether the security personnel who contacted the Sheriff’s Department were private guards. 

Former Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff purchased the Malibu home in January for a hefty $8.15 million. 

But this was not the first security scare for the couple. In January last year, two people were arrested shortly after 4.30am, during wildfire curfew hours, after deputies received reports of a potential burglary. 

At the time, Harris and Emhoff were living in Malibu’s exclusive Point Dume area as the Palisades and Eaton fires tore through Los Angeles.

The Brentwood home, which the couple still owns, was purchased by Emhoff for $2.7 million in 2012, before he and Harris met. 

Two men dressed head to toe in black were found on the couple’s property, but authorities later found no evidence they were committing a crime, according to KTLA 5 News. 

Harris’ level of security has previously come under scrutiny, as former vice presidents typically receive six months of Secret Service protection after leaving the White House.

Former President Joe Biden, however, extended her protection for another year. 

After defeating Harris in the 2024 presidential election, Trump revoked the extension, a move Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass called an ‘act of revenge.’

‘This is another act of revenge following a long list of political retaliation in the form of firings, the revoking of security clearances, and more,’ Bass said in a statement, according to the LA Times. 

‘This puts the former Vice President in danger and I look forward to working with the governor to make sure Vice President Harris is safe in Los Angeles,’ she added.

Since returning to the White House, Trump has repeatedly withdrawn security protection from political adversaries and figures who have fallen out of favor, including former national security adviser John Bolton and Biden’s adult children. 

Outgoing presidents can extend protection beyond the standard eligibility period, as Trump did for members of his own family after leaving office in 2021. 

His decision, however, forced Los Angeles and California law enforcement agencies to step in and fill Harris’ security gap. 

The LAPD said they were ‘assisting the California Highway Patrol in providing protective services for former Vice President Kamala Harris until an alternate plan is established,’ Jennifer Forkish, police communications director, said at the time.

‘This temporary coordinated effort is in place to ensure that there is no lapse in security,’ she added.

More than a dozen officers were pulled into a special detail to protect Harris after Trump revoked her Secret Service protection, sparking an uproar over police resources being diverted to guard the former vice president. 

The Los Angeles Police Protective League, which represents rank-and-file LAPD officers, was among those who blasted the move, according to the LA Times.

‘Pulling police officers from protecting everyday Angelenos to protect a failed presidential candidate who also happens to be a multi-millionaire… and who can easily afford to pay for her own security, is nuts,’ its board of directors said.

‘Mayor Karen Bass should tell Governor Newsom that if he wants to curry favor with Ms Harris and her donor base, then he should open up his own wallet because LA taxpayers should not be footing the bill for this ridiculousness,’ they added. 

Many LA residents, including reality star Spencer Pratt, also took to social media to slam the city’s Democratic government for using resources to protect Harris.

Just a week later, the LAPD ended its round-the-clock protection of Harris amid the backlash. She had reportedly been under 24/7 protection from the Secret Service and LAPD, with officers stationed outside her Brentwood home. 

Those officers were drawn from elite LAPD units typically assigned to investigative and crime suppression duties, Fox 11 News reported at the time. 

A Secret Service threat assessment in 2025 found no red flags or credible evidence of a threat against her, according to a White House official.

As a result, the administration determined there was no reason for her protection to continue beyond the standard six month period for former vice presidents, the official added. 

The couple’s current Malibu home sits on three-quarters of an acre and boasts four bedrooms, six bathrooms, a heated pool, in-ground spa, fire pit, gated entry and sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean. 

The exclusive enclave has attracted a star-studded list of residents over the years, including Bob Dylan, Sean Penn, Gerard Butler, Owen Wilson and Julia Roberts.  

Roxanne Tickle, the transgender woman at the heart of Australia’s closely watched “what is a woman” sex discrimination case, has spoken publicly after the nation’s highest court upheld a ruling in her favour.

The dispute began after Giggle for Girls founder Sall Grover removed Ms Tickle from the women-only networking app in 2021. Ms Grover later sought to overturn a finding that the ban amounted to unlawful discrimination against Ms Tickle.

In May, the Federal Court dismissed Ms Grover’s appeal and doubled Ms Tickle’s compensation to $20,000. The court also directed Ms Grover to cover Ms Tickle’s legal costs, which could reach $100,000.

Ms Grover then took her challenge to the High Court of Australia. On Thursday, the court refused her application for special leave to appeal and ordered that Ms Tickle’s costs be paid.

Following the decision, Ms Tickle reflected on the case, which has attracted intense media attention and sparked wider debate across Australia.

“It’s been nearly five years since I lodged my discrimination complaint. It’s been a relentlessly exhausting time, both physically and emotionally, for me and many others,” she said.

“I hope that yesterday’s High Court special leave refusal provides clarity to the protections in law for transgender and gender diverse people in Australia, and perhaps provides a beacon of light to the rest of the world.

“I wish my trans and gender diverse siblings, as well as their loved ones, much hope and love for their collective futures.

“May we all learn that just being different is not grounds for you to be ridiculed, attacked, feared or hated, but that instead you are providing a little something extra to the world.

‘Life is not easy. Let’s all be kinder to each other and we might all enjoy it a little more.’

Ms Grover revealed that she intended to leave Australia to set up her business overseas in the wake of the High Court loss, and doubled down on her vow to continue her fight in a Facebook post on Saturday.

‘Thank you to the thousands of people who have sent me a message, email, reply or text of support. I will try to reply to eventually,’ she wrote.

‘But for the moment I just want to say: I’m ok, angry & sad, but ok, and the fight isn’t over.

‘A marathon runner doesn’t give up at kilometer 30, and neither do I. We’re in this together.’

The legal battle has left Australians divided, with many slamming the High Court’s decision.

‘This sets women’s rights back 100 years,’ one wrote.

‘That final decision is a sad day for all girls and women in Australia,’ another added.

‘It erases girls and women, by supporting the idea that anyone can be one just because they say they are one.’ 

Other Aussies threw their support behind Ms Tickle.

‘Well done Roxy. Trans women have been treated as women by Australian law for decades without issue,’ one wrote.

‘The only thing new is the scale of the highly funded and co-ordinated US Christian lobby-funded campaign to spread misinformation and strip trans people of their legal rights.’

‘Good on you Roxanne! So many of us are on your side!’ a second chimed in.

Ms Grover, who conceded there were no more legal avenues available for her to pursue, told the Daily Mail that she wanted to leave the country ‘because I will never forgive the government and I have no respect for the judiciary’.

‘I won’t live under an authoritarian nonsense ideology. 

‘But I am lucky that I have the potential to leave. The girls in school with boys in their bathrooms and sports competitions, the women in prison with male rapists, and every Australian woman who has had her sex-based rights abolished can’t leave.

‘I will fight with every Australian woman until our rights are restored.’

The High Court found in favour of Ms Tickle, who was born male but identifies as female and has undergone gender-affirming surgery and hormone treatment.

In the High Court’s two-sentence explanation, the court stated there was ‘no reason to doubt the Full Court’s construction’ and that any appeal had ‘insufficient prospects of success’, a statement Ms Grover said ‘makes no sense.’

She also claimed the court’s decision essentially told Australians that they must ‘adhere to transgender ideology’ or be punished.

‘They have basically said that there is no issue with the law. But that is not true,’ she said.

‘Women still exist and we require legal protections. Currently, we don’t have them. The High Court is fine with that.

‘The only option left is for politicians to do their jobs and put women’s sex-based rights back into law.’

During the drawn-out case, lawyers for the Giggle for Girls app argued that it was exempt from discrimination law because it sought to achieve substantial equality between men and women.

Its intention was to create a ‘safe space’ for women, Ms Grover’s lawyers said.
