Nocatee ToyTopia Theft Sparks Call for More Teen Spaces

0

A Nocatee toy store says several teenagers stole dozens of collectible toys, costing the business hundreds of dollars, before later turning themselves in. Now, the store says it hopes the incident sparks a broader push for more positive activities and gathering places for local teens.

NOCATEE, Fla. — Employees at a Nocatee toy shop say a recent theft involving teenagers has left the business with a significant merchandise loss, but they also see the episode as a chance to start a community conversation about what options young people have after school and on weekends.

According to the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to ToyTopia on Pine Lake Drive on Aug. 22 after a report of shoplifting. The sheriff’s office said the case remains under investigation.

Store staff said the teens took roughly 28 boxes of Smiskis, a line of small collectible figurines that typically retail for about $12 to $14 apiece.

Julie Fairbank, human resources director for Safari and ToyTopia, said the stolen items were valued at approximately $400 to $500.

“It really not only affected us financially, but, you know, personally,” Fairbank said.

The first incident happened around 7 p.m. Aug. 22, according to Fairbank. Surveillance video from inside the store shows teens opening the boxes and hiding them underneath clothing racks before leaving with the figures.

“They came back the next day. Around, like, 11 a.m., and we did notice two more things were taken, two more unopened boxes,” Fairbank said.

Fairbank said the teens later turned themselves in, and their parents were apologetic.

The incident is not the first challenge ToyTopia has faced with loss prevention, but Fairbank said the store had not experienced something like this before.

Fairbank said the business was grateful the teens came forward.

“We’re really grateful for that. That’s definitely a start for accountability,” Fairbank said.

But she said the store’s concern goes beyond the stolen merchandise.

The owners of ToyTopia live in Nocatee, and Fairbank said the business considers itself part of the community. The store was created with the goal of giving children a place where they can play, explore and spend time with their families. ToyTopia offers activities including story time and demo tables where children can try games and other products. Fairbank said the store also works to make the experience interactive, with employees helping customers learn how to use products and games.

But she said she sees fewer options for older children and teenagers.

“I definitely think there’s not enough things for our teens and tweens to do, definitely within the community,” Fairbank said.

While Fairbank believes Nocatee has many activities for younger children, including splash pads and other family-oriented amenities, she thinks the community could have more opportunities specifically designed to give teenagers constructive ways to spend their time. Still, Fairbank emphasized that boredom does not excuse theft

“We all expect our teenagers, yes, know right from wrong. 100%,” Fairbank said. “But, you know, and then we give them… We don’t give them the things to do. They just sit at home, and they get bored, and, you know, it’s gonna lead to things.”

Her ideas include opportunities such as classes or recreational activities. She also pointed to the popularity of e-bikes and e-scooters among young people and said communities could consider ways to create more structured activities around interests like those.

“I really do hope that that’s not for me to come up with, but hopefully the community, the builders, developers, community managers, they see this, and, you know, it sparks some debate and ideas on what they can do to add to this wonderful community,” Fairbank said.

Fairbank said ToyTopia wants to remain a place where families of all ages feel welcome.

The store offers a variety of products beyond toys for young children, including puzzles, memory games, adult coloring books, books, school supplies, arts and crafts, Legos, plush toys and other items. Fairbank said ToyTopia also partners with assisted living facilities in the area and provides coloring books and other products that can be used by residents with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.

The company has additional ToyTopia locations in Jacksonville Beach and St. Augustine and is continuing to expand in Florida.

For Fairbank, the theft is ultimately part of a larger conversation about the community the business wants to help build.

Dramatic Video Shows US Strikes Hammering Iran’s Coastline

0

The Trump administration’s military released striking new video of U.S. bombardments along Iran’s coast, as the president called on Iranians to “rise up and fight.”

The footage appeared to show American strikes pounding Iranian targets across roughly 300 miles of coastline near the Strait of Hormuz, while Trump claimed Tehran’s economy was nearing collapse.

“I’m not trying to force Iran to the bargaining table, as ABC Fake News reported,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “I couldn’t care less if they sign a worthless, to them, agreement.”

He added that the U.S. was in a far stronger position, citing what he described as “almost total control of the Hormuz Strait” and saying Iran’s economy was “totally collapsing.” In Trump’s words, Iranian leaders were “just playing out the inevitable.”

The post ended with an unusually direct appeal to the public inside Iran: “When are the Iranian people going to rise up and fight?”

On Tuesday, over a dozen strikes targeted Iranian radar systems and military assets. Iranian state media reported strikes on the country’s oil-rich Qeshm Island, as well as in the southern port cities of Bandar Abbas and Chabahar.

Iran retaliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claiming that it had launched a ballistic missile strike on Camp Titin, a US Marine base in Jordan.

Trump’s latest strikes come after Iranian forces hit two US-backed commercial oil tankers attempting to cross the Persian Gulf earlier this week. For months, Iran has choked off the Strait of Hormuz with explosive suicide drones and sea mines, disrupting the narrow waterway through which one-fifth of the world’s oil normally flows.

While Iran has continued to harass civilian oil tankers, roughly 50,000 US troops have been deployed across the region to enforce Trump’s naval blockade and squeeze the regime back to the negotiating table.

The US and Iran signed a 14-point ceasefire back in June that had been mediated by Pakistan. Both sides were given 60 days to negotiate an end to the war.

Fighting restarted within weeks, and the deal ran out on August 17 with nothing to replace it.

There are no talks going on now. Trump has said none are planned as refuses to extend the ceasefire.

The White House is demanding that Iran surrender its stockpile of enriched uranium and dismantle its nuclear program. Tehran has refused to make concessions unless the US lifts its naval blockade and allows Iran to control the strait.

Iran claimed that US strikes on Tuesday killed civilians at a wedding taking place at a home in Southern Iran. The Pentagon has denied these reports, adding it does not target civilians during precision strikes.

US forces continued intercepting incoming attacks late into Tuesday night, according to the Washington Post. It is not clear if Iran retaliatory strikes caused any damage to facilities or casualties.

Jordan, which hosts about 4,000 American troops and has repeatedly been targeted by Iran, said its forces confronted 13 ballistic missiles during the barrage. Ten were reportedly destroyed while the other three landed in remote parts of the country.

Lawyer Says Tyler Robinson Defense Attorney Should Be Embarrassed Over Charlie Kirk Attack

0

PROVO, Utah — Comments from a defense attorney representing Tyler Robinson, the man accused of assassinating Charlie Kirk, drew sharp criticism Tuesday after the lawyer suggested in court that Kirk had spoken “hatefully” before he was fatally shot in front of thousands at a Utah Valley University speaking event.

“I think what the defense attorney said regarding Charlie Kirk and that he was full of hate, that was so unprofessional,” said David Gelman, a New Jersey criminal defense attorney who has been tracking the case. “That was so out of left field that he honestly — he should be embarrassed of what he said.”

Robinson, 23, is charged in the Sept. 10, 2025, killing of Kirk, a 31-year-old father of two, who was speaking to a large crowd during a Turning Point USA event on the Utah Valley University campus when he was shot.

During arguments opposing the case being bound over for trial, California-based defense attorney Richard Novak asserted that “Mr. Kirk spoke hatefully of certain groups of people.” Novak also argued there was a “significant gap” between Kirk’s views and Robinson’s feelings toward him.

As Novak repeated the phrase, Kirk’s parents, widow and other relatives were in court. They exchanged looks and some teared up. Erika Kirk leaned forward and said something to an aide with the county attorney’s office.

“You don’t ever and I mean ever say that, No. 1, as a defense attorney or a prosecutor, especially not even at a trial,” Gelman said. “If you want to paint Charlie as a bad person in front of the jury, knock your socks off. Do whatever you think you have to do. But to do that at a preliminary hearing…when you have the victim’s family all there, that was totally uncalled for.”

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) Attorney Jeffrey Neiman, representing the Kirk family, addresses the court in the Tyler Robinson case, who is charged in the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk, during closing arguments at his preliminary hearing in 4th District Court in Provo on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026.

Chief Deputy Utah County Attorney Chad Grunander and Kirk family attorney Jeffrey Neiman both pushed back on Novak’s comments in front of the judge.

“The state takes great exception with Mr. Novak attributing all of this ‘hate’ to Mr. Kirk during his argument today,” Grunander said in his rebuttal. “None of what was presented during the preliminary hearing [shows] that he is hateful towards this group or hateful towards that group. He had an opinion that he would express on politics and religion. That doesn’t make it hate, but the fact that Mr. Novak even considered as hate makes the case for the state in his client’s own words, he hated what Mr. Kirk stood for.”

Neiman told the court that Kirk had made a career out of having “hard conversations” on difficult topics.

“Charlie was the opposite of hate,” he said. “Firing a bullet into a crowd and assassinating him. That is hate.”

In text messages prosecutors allege Robinson sent to Twiggs, the sender also accused Kirk of “hate.”

Lance Twiggs, Robinson’s roommate and romantic partner at the time, has been a key witness for prosecutors, who allege that Robinson confessed the crime and apparent motive to him.

“Why did I do it?” Robinson allegedly wrote to Twiggs after the slaying. “I had enough of his hatred. Some hate can’t be negotiated out. If I am able to grab my rifle unseen, I will have left no evidence.”

News Media has reached out to Robinson’s defense team for comment.

“Charlie Kirk was not full of hatred,” Gelman said. “If anything, he was full of love…He brought people together. He was there doing a free speech event, all right? He’s trying to bring people on the left on the right together.”

Judge Tony Graf Jr. bound over all charges to district court for trial Tuesday, including the death penalty-eligible charge of aggravated murder.

Robinson is due back in court on Oct. 23 for a pretrial conference , where Graf may set a trial date.

His attorney, Kathy Nester, entered not guilty pleas on his behalf to all charges at an arraignment Tuesday.

5 Daily Exercises to Stay Strong, Mobile, and Fit After 60 Without the Gym

0

Aging well isn’t about pushing through the most punishing workouts. It’s about preserving the strength, mobility, and balance that help you move through daily life with confidence. After 60, the most valuable exercises are often the ones that train those qualities together.

That’s why body control should come first. Split squat holds challenge your legs while sharpening balance. Plank shoulder taps strengthen your core as your shoulders and hands stabilize your body. Squats, bridges, and deadlifts support the everyday strength you rely on to stand up, carry things, lift safely, and stay active.

Another benefit is that these movements don’t require a fully equipped gym. You can do them with your bodyweight, a dumbbell, a kettlebell, a loaded backpack, or a sturdy chair for assistance. Choose the variation you can perform smoothly, then increase the range of motion or add resistance once your form feels controlled.

This routine offers a simple, practical plan for healthier aging. It combines controlled holds, core stability, squat strength, single-leg hip work, and an easy deadlift pattern to help keep your entire body strong and functional.

Nicole Kidman’s Hero Eye Cream for Practical Magic 2 Premiere

Nicole Kidman’s newest red carpet beauty moments are casting a serious spell.

Nearly 28 years after the original “Practical Magic” made its debut, the actress looked as radiant as ever at Monday’s Los Angeles premiere for the sequel.

The secret behind her luminous complexion? Kidman’s longtime makeup artist, Gucci Westman, prepared her skin for the event using Clé de Peau Beauté products, including the brand’s Eye Contour Cream Supreme.

“I want to use the products to enhance Nicole’s natural beauty,” Westman said in a press release, describing the eye cream as one of the look’s standout “hero products.”

Clé du Peau Beauté

The luxury formula is made to hydrate and plump the skin while helping address fine lines, deeper wrinkles and under-eye darkness over time. It also includes a cooling massage applicator, which Clé de Peau Beauté says helps “ensure the ideal gentle pressure” for the delicate under-eye area.

While it’s undeniably a splurge, plenty of the over 500 Nordstrom reviewers seem impressed. It has a 4.5-star average, with shoppers saying things like “well worth the price” and “the only eye cream that works for my sensitive mature eyes.”

“I don’t want to be without this again,” wrote another reviewer, who was “surprised by the results.”

Kidman, who’s starred in ads for the brand, paired it with other best-sellers for her latest look — including the Powder Blush Duo in shade 102, which Westman name-dropped as a favorite.

“I feel confident that the product will wear perfectly throughout the night and help me achieve the look I envision,” the makeup pro added, saying she drew inspiration from the ’90s.

“Nicole has the amazing natural beauty of the supermodels of that decade,” she explained. “I wanted to evoke the essence of that time but keep it very modern and just highlight her.”

Kidman is hardly alone in her love for the luxury beauty brand; Martha Stewart raves about it on the regular, including once telling us the Precious Gold Vitality Mask is among her skin care staples.

Meanwhile Michelle Monogham swears the brand’s concealer is the best out there, telling Harper’s Bazaar: “I don’t leave home without it, and actually I freak out if I leave it behind, because that’s what I use for everything.”

Beth underwent endometriosis surgery in 2022 before being referred to a fertility clinic in September of that year.

Connagh’s first semen analysis came back borderline but after cutting out protein supplements and making other adjustments, he retested in February 2023 and his sample had ‘improved’.

The Circle star then had eight sessions of acupuncture, which didn’t work.

After being told they had ‘unexplained fertility’, the couple, who started dating in 2020, were offered IVF.

Connagh and Beth moved in together in 2021 after living with her parents through lockdown in 2020.

Connagh got down on one knee in December last year.

New Poll Shows Voters Sour on Trump’s Iran War and Prices

0

A new Daily Mail/JL Partners poll shows voters are increasingly dissatisfied with President Donald Trump’s handling of the ongoing war with Iran, while frustration over stubbornly high living costs continues to weigh heavily across the US.

The survey points to mounting unease over Trump’s second-term agenda, a warning sign for Republicans as the party heads into the final two months before the midterm elections.

Perhaps most striking, the discontent is no longer limited to Trump’s critics. It is now reaching into his loyal political base, exposing cracks among MAGA supporters who once appeared firmly united behind him.

According to the exclusive poll, more than four in ten voters who supported Trump in the 2024 election say he is not doing enough to tackle inflation or ease the cost-of-living crisis facing American households.

Those financial pressures have continued to climb, driven in part by the economic fallout from the Iran war and Trump’s aggressive tariff policies.

This week, the US military released dramatic new footage of its blistering bombardment of Iran’s coast, as Trump urged the country’s citizens to ‘rise up and fight.’

And it doesn’t appear peace is on the horizon anytime soon.

‘I’m not trying to force Iran to the bargaining table, as ABC Fake News reported,’ Trump wrote on Truth Social on Tuesday. ‘I couldn’t care less if they sign a worthless, to them, agreement.’

In the military footage, the US can be seen striking Iranian targets across a 300-mile stretch of coastline in the Strait of Hormuz, as Trump boasted that Tehran’s economy was collapsing.

‘I like our position now much better, with almost total control of the Hormuz Strait, and their economy totally collapsing,’ Trump continued. ‘They are just playing out the inevitable.’

But voters aren’t happy with the length of the conflict, that’s stretched into its seventh month.

Nearly half of US voters, or 49 percent, said they believe Trump was wrong to launch military action in Iran earlier this year.

While Iran has continued to harass civilian oil tankers, roughly 50,000 US troops have been deployed across the region to enforce Trump’s naval blockade and squeeze the regime back to the negotiating table

The poll also found that Americans continue to hold dismal views of the war with Iran.

Just 25 percent of voters said they believe the US is ‘winning’ the war, according to the Daily Mail/JL Partners survey.

Support was split among party lines, however – with 52 percent of Republicans saying they believe the US is winning the war, compared to just 11 percent of Democrats and 13 percent of independent voters.

A total of 42 percent of voters – more than four in ten – said they believe Trump is ‘most responsible’ for the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

A much smaller 17 percent of voters blamed the Iranian government, while 9 percent blamed former US administrations.

Most shockingly, Americans said they would rather fork over more money for gas than send extra American troops to Iran

An eye-popping 46 percent of US voters said they would rather pay $5 per gallon gas prices than send more troops to Iran, compared to just 22 percent who said the opposite.

Among just Republicans, the split was nearly even – 38 percent preferred the higher gas costs, while 39 percent preferred sending more troops to Iran.

Average US gas prices remain elevated at more than $4 a gallon amid higher costs of crude oil due to the war and instability in the Strait of Hormuz.

Gas prices in August also shattered records, with averages surpassing $4 a gallon every day for the first time ever, according to AAA.

The high cost of living continues to be another major issue contributing to the drop off in approval rates.

Consumer prices have been creeping up over the last few months, leaving Americans stuck with stubbornly high inflation that has pushed up the cost of everything from groceries to home loans.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that consumer prices rose by 0.1 percent in July month over month, putting the annual CPI inflation rate at 3.4 percent, down a hair from the 3.5 percent figure in June.

The Daily Mail/JL Partners survey polled a nationally representative sample of more than one thousand registered US voters between the dates of August 28 and August 31, with a 3.1 percent margin of error.

NJ Mom Stabbed to Death in Times Square After Maternity Leave

A Bank of America executive who had only just resumed her job after maternity leave was killed Monday in a violent attack in New York City’s Times Square. Authorities said a woman armed with a knife stabbed her and injured a second victim before police fatally shot the suspect.

The woman who died was identified as Erin Piacenti, 32, of Chester, New Jersey. According to The New York Times, Piacenti was in her first week back at Bank of America following five months of maternity leave spent caring for her newborn daughter.

Just four days before the fatal Times Square stabbing, Piacenti had posted a family photo on social media showing herself with her baby and her husband, Frank Piacenti. Her recent posts also highlighted her daughter’s baptism and family trips taken during her leave.

Police said Piacenti was attacked near West 42nd Street and Seventh Avenue. She was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead.

A 68-year-old man was also stabbed in the abdomen and taken to Bellevue, where he was listed in stable condition.

Police said the attack began near West 41st Street when Pamela Cisneros, 49, of Queens, approached the man while armed with two large knives. He had just exited a subway station and was waiting to cross the street with his wife.

A witness told investigators that Cisneros pulled the knives from a red Target bag before attacking the man.

Cisneros then moved north on Seventh Avenue and stabbed Piacenti. NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the two attacks occurred about 20 seconds apart.

Officers later confronted Cisneros while she was still holding both knives. Police recovered the weapons at the scene.

Cisneros refused repeated commands to drop the weapons and engaged officers in a standoff that lasted about four minutes, Tisch said. When she advanced toward officers while waving the knives, police deployed Tasers, but they failed to stop her. Two officers then fired their weapons.

A photo showing two knives recovered at the scene is displayed during a press conference following a fatal stabbing incident in Times Square near West 42nd Street and Seventh Avenue in Manhattan, New York, United States, on August 31, 2026.

“Our officers were confronted with a rapidly evolving threat, with countless innocent people around them,” Tisch said.

Cisneros was taken to Bellevue, where she was pronounced dead.

Tisch described the attack as random and unprovoked. Cisneros had documented mental health-related encounters with the NYPD in 2018 and 2019 but no prior arrest record with the department. Police said there was no indication the attack was related to terrorism.

Bank of America confirmed Piacenti’s death in an emailed statement to Reuters.

“We are shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our colleague,” the bank said. “She was a valued teammate who will be greatly missed.”

Piacenti earned a law degree from Fordham University School of Law in 2021 alongside her husband, the school told The Associated Press. Fordham Law said it was heartbroken by the death of its former student.

The NYPD’s Force Investigation Division is reviewing the police shooting. Mayor Zohran Mamdani said body-worn camera footage from the encounter will be released.
