Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has been formally summoned to give evidence in a High Court fraud dispute involving a Turkish businessman.

Nebahat Isbilen, an elderly Turkish millionaire, alleges that her former financial adviser, Selman Turk, deceived her over a £750,000 payment made to the former royal in 2019.

Before the trial, Mr Turk asked the court to require Mr Mountbatten-Windsor to testify.

A summons was issued this week ordering him to appear before the High Court in mid-December, either in person or via video link, the BBC reported.

Mr Mountbatten-Windsor has not been accused of wrongdoing, and the proceedings do not concern him directly.

He is nevertheless expected to face questions about his financial affairs.

He is the first member of the royal family to receive such a witness summons since the 19th century.

The judge had previously indicated that it was “unlikely that a person in the position of Mr Mountbatten-Windsor would wish voluntarily” to testify.

In her complicated and long-running High Court claim, Mrs Isbilen alleges that Mr Turk misappropriated millions of pounds from her.

The dispute brought the York family into the spotlight after Mr Turk arranged payments of £350,000 to Andrew, £225,000 to the Duchess of York, £25,000 to Princess Eugenie and a £750,000 “gift” linked to Princess Beatrice’s wedding.

There has been no allegation of wrongdoing against any of the Yorks. In 2023, they reached an agreement with Mrs Isbilen to repay her an undisclosed sum.

Mrs Isbilen, 81, claims Mr Turk misrepresented the nature of payments made to the then-Duke of York and members of his family in 2019.

She alleges that the banker diverted her money after she left Turkey and moved to Britain. Documents obtained by her legal team are said to indicate that significant sums from her accounts were transferred to the former Duke of York’s household.

Mr Turk denies the accusations. His legal representatives argue that Mr Mountbatten-Windsor could support his account of events and applied for permission to call him as a witness, despite the expectation that he might not wish to participate.

In a judgment issued on October 23, Mr Justice Johnson approved the application and allowed Mr Turk to seek evidence from the former prince.

The judge said: “Given the seriousness of the allegations, both on their own terms and in light of their wider impact, fairness requires that Mr Turk should be afforded an opportunity of putting forward his own case, using the evidence he considers relevant and material.”

He explained that his decision “give[s] Mr Turk permission to seek to call evidence from Mr Mountbatten-Windsor”. He added that this would “likely involve him issuing a witness summons”, which could be done without further court approval provided it was issued more than seven days before the trial began.

The trial had been scheduled to start during the week of November 16.

The judge had earlier suggested that a witness summons would “likely” be necessary to compel Andrew to give evidence.

He said: ‘I am content to find on the balance of probabilities that, had he been asked, Mr Mountbatten-Windsor would have declined to provide a witness statement.

‘It is highly unlikely that a person in the position of Mr Mountbatten-Windsor would wish voluntarily to provide a witness statement and give evidence at a trial in public proceedings involving payments made by the wife of a person said to be a political prisoner in Turkey, in connection with a dispute about the reason the payments were made.’

Lawyers for Mrs Isbilen have previously told the court in London that tens of millions of her funds had been misappropriated, with Mr Turk then failing to explain where the money had gone.

The High Court was also previously told by lawyers for Mrs Isbilen that ‘money was used for purposes unconnected with Mrs Isbilen, eg, substantial sums were paid to Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and to Sarah, Duchess of York’.

The court heard in 2023 that there had been a ‘settlement’ between Mrs Isbilen and the then-duke and duchess of York.

Kim Kardashian has sparked fresh debate after wearing another piece of Hollywood history.

Four years after drawing criticism for wearing Marilyn Monroe’s dress to the Met Gala, Kardashian was given the opportunity to try on jewelry once owned by another showbiz legend: Elizabeth Taylor.

The 46-year-old reality star and actress recently tried on Taylor’s multimillion-dollar emerald and diamond necklace during a visit to the Bulgari store in Rome.

The historic necklace, which Taylor received from her former husband Richard Burton, was handled with such care that a store employee wore white gloves while presenting it to Kardashian.

Kardashian shared photos from the visit on social media and described the moment as “special.” However, not everyone was impressed by the once-in-a-lifetime fashion experience.

“Elizabeth Taylor just rolled over in her grave,” one critic wrote.

Some commenters also revived claims that Kardashian damaged Monroe’s dress after wearing it to the Met Gala, allegations she has previously denied. “Is she going to ruin that like she ruined the Marilyn Monroe dress?” one person asked.

“Hopefully she didn’t mess it up like she did Marilyn’s dress,” another wrote.

“Elizabeth probably crying in her grave now!!” a third commenter said.

Still, Kardashian also received plenty of praise for the look. “I will say, that looks beautiful on her!” one fan commented.

“This is absolutely breathtaking, stunning, absolutely stunning,” another admirer wrote.

“This is so amazing. She was such a beautiful, iconic person,” another person posted.

Another commenter added: “What luck for Lewis” — a reference to Kardashian’s boyfriend, Lewis Hamilton.

The Daily Mail has contacted a representative for Kardashian for comment.

Kardashian has long spoken warmly about Taylor and was also an executive producer of a three-part documentary about the actress.

She was the last person to interview the Hollywood icon before Taylor’s death in 2011. Their conversation covered Taylor’s famous jewelry collection as well as her thoughts on social media.

“You have always been ahead of your time—and now you’re on Twitter. What do you love about it? And [cheekily] will you please follow me?” Kardashian asked Taylor during the Harper’s Bazaar interview.

‘I like the connection with fans and people who have been supportive of me,’ Taylor replied. ‘And I love the idea of real feedback and a two-way street, which is very, very modern. But sometimes I think we know too much about our idols and that spoils the dream. So, like all things, it is to be used with care! Yes, of course I’ll follow you, love.’ 

Kardashian has previously worn Taylor’s belongings and even had the opportunity to speak with the star prior to her death in 2011 about the necklace she wore last week. 

‘I was lucky enough to have a phone conversation with her about this piece,’ Kardashian revealed during her visit to the store. 

‘When she passed away, I was brought into her home [and] shown her safe with all of her jewelry before they cleared it out,’ Kardashian, who has a penchant for wearing items belonging to dead celebrities, told the Bulgari team in the clip. 

‘So, I was able to see everything in her home and her jewelry still in her safe and all of her stuff still [there], her furniture,’ she went on. 

‘I was able to go in there like right after she passed. I know that sounds insane, but I was able to see this stuff in her purple closet.’ 

She posted photos of her wearing the jewels to her Instagram grid on Tuesday along with a gushing post about her love for Taylor. 

‘My love for Elizabeth Taylor runs deep,’ she captioned the post. ‘She loved hard and fought for others who no one would fight for, all while wearing the craziest jewelry and being the most unapologetically authentic person ever. 

‘She is someone I have respected and loved for so many years and being able to try her jewels on was special for me. I remember talking to her before she passed away and asked all about these jewels and the stories behind them. 

‘Thank you @luxurylaw and @bvlgari for making all of my wildest dreams come true.’

After the Bulgari team helped Kardashian put the necklace and matching earrings on, her mother asked, ‘How does it feel, Liz?’

Kardashian then praised her stylist Law Roach, quipping, ‘Wow. Law really pulled some strings here.’

She went on to FaceTime Roach, who is also Zendaya’s stylist, saying, ‘Look at this. You did it. I don’t know how you did this. But this is like the best birthday present ever.’

‘Now I can start my year with this Elizabeth energy,’ she added.

Jewish voters in Detroit who have traditionally backed Democrats told the Daily Mail they plan to support Republicans in this year’s midterm elections.

Shlomi Bennett said Tuesday morning that he intended to vote for Republican Mike Rogers, citing what he described as “serious concerns” over Democratic candidate Abdul El-Sayed’s handling of antisemitism.

“I’m particularly troubled by what I see as his failure to clearly condemn ads that Jewish voters have called antisemitic, and his associations with controversial figures such as Hasan Piker and Tucker Carlson,” Bennett said.

Bennett supported Haley Stevens over El-Sayed in the Democratic primary. He said Stevens’ surprise endorsement of Rogers on Sunday reflected “a serious divide” within American politics.

The latest New York Times/Siena University poll puts El-Sayed 11 points ahead of Rogers, with 53 percent of voters supporting the Democrat compared with 42 percent for the Republican.

Stevens had repeatedly criticized El-Sayed over his remarks about Israel and his links to controversial streamer Hasan Piker. She called on him to apologize for comments she said unfairly placed blame on Jewish Americans for the country’s problems.

Stevens also pressed El-Sayed to explicitly distance himself from Piker’s rhetoric, which she described as deeply disturbing.

After facing backlash, El-Sayed released a statement reaffirming his commitment to protecting Jewish Americans. He said his dedication to their safety was equal to his concern for the safety of his own daughters.

El-Sayed described antisemitism as a “scourge” and said he opposed any rhetoric that placed the Jewish community at risk.

He did not, however, mention Piker by name or directly condemn his remarks. Instead, El-Sayed said that no one spoke for his campaign apart from him and his official spokespeople.

Rabbi Asher Lopatin likewise described Stevens’ decision to cross party lines as “courageous.”

“Whether or not you agree with Rep. Haley Stevens’ endorsement of Mike Rogers, everyone should respect the courage it took for her to defy her party and make what she considers a principled stand,” he said.

“Such courage — at great cost to her political career — is all too rare in today’s political world. In general, I hope we learn to respect one another’s decisions without demonizing positions with which we disagree.”

Still, religion is not shaping the choice of every voter on the other side of the political divide.

Some voters told the Daily Mail that El-Sayed’s appearance, rather than the religious controversy surrounding the race, was helping win their support.

Tracy Grasy, 60, said she had previously voted for El-Sayed’s opponent, Mike Rogers.

“I mean, he’s not a bad-looking man. He really isn’t! He just isn’t!” Grasy said of El-Sayed.

‘He’s easy on the eyes, and he’s educated. That’s even better!’

First-time voter Meilyn Rodriguez, 18, said she was also voting for El-Sayed because he ‘just seems right for the people.’

The teenager said she and her friends had seen TikTok videos about El-Sayed’s looks, and said she had seen people say they were ‘voting for him because he’s hot.’

‘Like mostly just because he’s hot,’ she said.

‘But, I’m not really doing that. Like I would just rather not vote for the other guy.’

El-Sayed’s support skews younger, and he used TikTok to his advantage with clever skits and trending sounds, becoming popular nationally.

Polling shows he draws considerably more backing from younger voters than older generations.

An August EPIC-MRA survey found he commanded 62 percent support among voters aged 18 to 34 compared to Rogers, with just 36 percent among those aged 50 to 64.

Among voters over 65, Rogers held a narrow lead.

Ellen DeGeneres has faced criticism online after donating $5,000 to a fundraiser for Matthew Wright, the former executive producer of her talk show who died suddenly at 52.

The 68-year-old media figure, who shared an emotional video of herself crying after learning of Wright’s death, was among the contributors to a GoFundMe campaign created to support his family.

The circumstances surrounding Wright’s death have not been disclosed. The fundraiser described it as an “unfathomable tragedy” that occurred in Los Angeles.

DeGeneres ranked among the campaign’s leading donors with her $5,000 contribution. However, because her fortune has been estimated at $500 million by Celebrity Net Worth, some social media users argued that the donation should have been larger.

The Daily Mail has contacted DeGeneres’s representatives for comment but has not received a response.

Podcaster and author Dana Parish highlighted the situation in a post on X, writing: “Ellen DeGeneres’s 52-y/o longtime exec producer, Matt Wright, tragically died on Oct 30, while working in LA. His fam is in NY & started a GFM to help with expenses. Ellen donated $5k.”

Criticism quickly appeared in the comments, with one person sarcastically writing: “Big spender. She was crying her eyes out so much why didn’t she just pay the entire 50k.”

Another commenter claimed Wright had been worried because he and his husband were both unemployed while supporting their children, adding, “She is heartless.” A separate user called DeGeneres “a cheapskate.”

Other users came to DeGeneres’s defense, questioning why the family needed crowdfunding when Wright had worked as an executive producer on one of the most successful talk shows of the past 25 years.

“Executive producer for Ellen DeGensres show needs financial help??? How can that be?” one person wrote.

“Does a longtime executive producer of one of the biggest shows ever need a GoFundMe?” another X user asked. However, one commenter pushed back against the criticism, writing: “I can’t stand Ellen but this post is stupid. We don’t know if they were still friends or even liked each other.”

The GoFundMe page explained the financial pressures facing Wright’s loved ones.

“His husband, father, sister and niece are in New York, desperate to be reunited for a proper goodbye. We’re asking for all of his friends, who Matt loved so fully, to help the family at this time,” the fundraiser stated.

“As many of you know, Matt & Justin were both laid off this summer. And the unexpected costs of getting Matt home, a funeral and a memorial are impossible for the family to bear.”

Meanwhile, DeGeneres posted a video sobbing as she paid tribute to her former colleague on Monday.

DeGeneres said: ‘He was an amazing guy, he was funny, god he made me laugh, he would surprise me with things that he did all the time. 

‘He was smart, he was kind, he was part of our show. everyone loved him.’

Tearing up, she continued: ‘I loved him and it’s just shocking. We were working on a project together that we were supposed to start.

‘We’re gonna miss him, he is and always will be the glue to our entire family at the Ellen Show.

‘I’m so sorry because we lost a good guy. 

‘And he and tWitch [the late Stephen Boss, who died by suicide in 2022] were so close. And now he and tWitch are together, dancing and laughing.’

Wright worked on the talk show for 16 years. When the show ended in 2022 amid a storm of controversy over an alleged toxic workplace environment, he wrote, ‘How do I even begin to sum up 16 years of my life? 

‘I’ve made so many best friends, had so many amazing experiences, met so many heroes of mine and even fell in love thanks to this show.

‘I will forever be grateful to @theellenshow for taking a chance on me and changing my life! Here’s to an amazing run!’

Andy Lassner, a fellow EP on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, revealed he had seen Wright just ‘hours’ before he died. 

He wrote on Instagram, ‘These photos were taken Thursday, while we were taping our Halloween show. Matt came by to visit.

‘A few hours later, he was gone. We are all in shock.

‘We are all in shock. He was a brilliant producer and an even better human being. 

‘The way he looked after his mom, flying back and forth from Los Angeles to New York practically every weekend before she died, showed what an incredible son he was.

‘My heart breaks for his husband, Justin, his family, and all of us who loved him. I was so lucky to work beside Matt for so many years and to call him my friend. We should have had so much more time with him.’
