Liverpool’s Midfield Makeover: New No. 6, Debut Academy Star, or Bold Florian Wirtz Gamble?

0

Liverpool is reportedly gearing up to invest over £100 million in acquiring French sensation Bradley Barcola, viewed as a potential replacement for Mo Salah. However, while Barcola’s arrival promises to bolster their attacking prowess, it doesn’t address the ongoing issues in their midfield.

The glaring absence of a No. 6—a key player tasked with intercepting threats and handling the gritty aspects of the game—was painfully evident in their recent fixture against Newcastle. This challenge presents a significant hurdle for new manager Andoni Iraola as he seeks to establish his footing at Anfield.

In Iraola’s debut game, Liverpool’s vulnerability in midfield was starkly exposed, echoing the issues that plagued former manager Arne Slot, ultimately contributing to his departure. The openness in the center field continues to be a pressing concern.

A telling moment occurred later in the match when Gravenberch lost the ball near the box, yet again putting Liverpool on the back foot. Despite the presence of bodies, Yoane Wissa easily navigated through them, morphing a promising attack into a defensive frailty. Meanwhile, Gravenberch, Szoboszlai, and fellow midfielder Florian Wirtz were seen jogging back to help.

Following the match, there were vociferous calls from fans and analysts, including Daniel Sturridge and Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports, for Liverpool to secure a defensive midfielder. This pressing need dominated Daily Mail Sport’s match analysis and was a focal point in Iraola’s post-match press conference.

But is it as simple as that? And what are the other options to fix this midfield mess?

SIGN A NEW No 6

This is not an overreaction based on one game of football. They have needed a No 6 since Fabinho left in 2023.

That summer, they had tried to sign Romeo Lavia, then of Southampton, and Moises Caicedo, then of Brighton. Both moved to Chelsea.

They ended up signing a stop-gap option in Wataru Endo, who arrived from Stuttgart on Deadline Day. The Japan international is the only specialist No 6 at the club but very rarely plays there and is often used as back-up in defence. He is also 33 and not a long-term solution.

Jurgen Klopp cobbled something together with Alexis Mac Allister, Curtis Jones and Trent Alexander-Arnold also playing in the holding role in a season where they made a fair title charge until it fizzled out in mid-March. The next summer, a deal for Real Sociedad and Spain No 6 Martin Zubimendi was advanced and Slot had spoken to the player. He decided to stay put and ultimately ended up at Arsenal a year later.

Slot found a revelation in pre-season as he converted the lesser-seen Gravenberch into a holding midfielder. He and Mac Allister formed a formidable duo on and off the ball as Liverpool romped to the Premier League title.

But it all fell apart from there as neither could sustain that level going into last season. Mac Allister, privately, was taken aback by some of the criticism he received but he seemed to struggle physically for the entire campaign. Jones’s exit this summer further compounds the lack of numbers in the position.

So, will they sign a defensive midfielder this summer? The messaging all window has been clear: wide attack is the priority – not a new No 6.

Lamine Camara at Monaco is a name that has circled in the last 24 hours – with Chelsea also said to be linked – but the word from Liverpool sources remains the same: The Reds are not in the market for midfielders. And that will only change if another midfielder leaves.

Liverpool have been trying to solve their No6 problem for ages and thought they had when they lined up Martin Zubimendi. He opted to stay at Real Sociedad, however, before joining Arsenal

DROP MEGA-MONEY WIRTZ

Given the £116m fee paid for Wirtz last year, this one will not go down well. It cannot be a long-term solution either.

But pushing Szoboszlai higher and having a more solid base achieves two things: it allows the Hungary star to have more of an attacking input and should, in theory, mean a double-pivot to shield the defence.

Iraola wants Wirtz and Alexander Isak to work in tandem up top and he will certainly not write them off after one sub-par game in the hostile environment of Newcastle. There are huge hopes for Wirtz this coming year.

TRUST THE IRAOLA PROCESS

It’s not like football fans to overreact, is it?

After five games last season, Liverpool looked likely to storm the league but their form fell off a cliff. Iraola was brought to the club because of his proven track record to improve players. Look at the likes of Antoine Semenyo, Milos Kerkez, Dean Huijsen, Ilya Zabarnyi as examples of those he took from unproven to big-money sales.

Tyler Adams, Eli Junior Kroupi and Rayan may also bag big sums for Bournemouth in the not-too-distant future, though the Cherries are keen to back Marco Rose as much as possible this season and are unlikely to sanction a sale for one of their big attackers.

Iraola insists it is not a personnel problem that plagued his midfield last weekend – and there is no guarantee a new signing would aid that. With time, the Basque will hope to solidify the issue.

Iraola wants his players to be front-footed and believes, over the course of a season, the positives outweigh the negatives.

CHANGE FORMATION COMPLETELY

Here’s a rogue one that has been suggested this week: Iraola should change to a different system altogether.

Jeremie Frimpong and Kerkez have struggled as full backs but what if they were wing backs with less defensive responsibilities? Wirtz’s best form came in a 3-4-2-1 formation under Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen.

This one is more of a fan hope than a realistic possibility, though. Otherwise their summer-long pursuit of wide forwards would be redundant – and the club also identified Iraola because he played a system similar to that which the squad is accustomed.

Another option is to convert full backs Milos Kerkez (above) and Jeremie Frimpong into wing backs - and bolster the middle of midfield with a 3-4-2-1 formation

GIVE THE KIDS A GO

Trusting youth players is in Iraola’s identity. At his boyhood team Athletic Club, there is a long-standing policy to only have Basque players in the squad. They cannot go out and spend mega-money on a transfer target, but instead have to work with what they already have at their disposal.

Keeping this in mind, 19-year-old midfielder Trey Nyoni will be given chances to impress. The young Englishman played just 21 minutes in the Premier League last term but was a star of pre-season and deserves more chances in the coming weeks.

He is small in stature but plays with a maturity beyond his years. Daily Mail Sport has been present for many of his youth-team appearances where he showed he is an elegant midfielder who always demands possession and can dictate play from deep.

Nyoni can certainly push for minutes this term.

Another back-up option is academy graduate James McConnell. He spent the first half of last season at Ajax and the second half on the treatment table. But he is fit now and has been asked to stick around. He had agreed a loan move to Preston North End but that has been put on the back-burner for now at least.

Test Your Hip Strength: Can You Hold a Single-Leg Bridge After 60 Better Than Most?

0

A fitness expert reveals how a straightforward floor exercise can unveil the endurance of your hips and glutes, especially if you’re over 60.

>

When it comes to physical fitness, hip strength often flies under the radar, yet it plays a pivotal role in almost every movement. From the simple act of stepping down from a curb to standing up from a seated position or regaining your balance after a trip, your hips are hard at work. As you pass the age of 60, the muscles that stabilize your pelvis and support your glutes become increasingly important for maintaining mobility and independence. That’s why a basic endurance test for these muscles can be surprisingly illuminating.

Enter the single-leg bridge, a move that effectively isolates one side of your posterior chain at a time. This exercise is a quick way to assess whether your glutes, hamstrings, and pelvic stabilizers can withstand sustained tension. The beauty of the single-leg bridge is its simplicity; with no equipment required and needing only a small space, it’s an accessible way to evaluate and track your progress.

Even more compelling are the findings from recent research. A study published in 2024 in PLOS One observed that older adults living in community settings who had stronger hip abductors were significantly less likely to experience falls. This illustrates the critical role that hip strength plays in fall prevention.

To delve deeper into this topic, we consulted James Brady, CPT, a certified personal trainer with OriGym. Brady offered insights on what a robust single-leg bridge looks like beyond the age of 60, how to execute it correctly, and what your performance signifies about your hip strength in relation to others in your age group. Let’s explore further.

(Next up: Don’t miss these 4 Chair Exercises That Rebuild Hip Strength Faster Than Squats After 55.)

How Long Should You Be Able to Hold It?

“If you can maintain a controlled single-leg bridge for around 30 seconds on each side after 60, I would consider that a strong display of hip and posterior chain endurance,” says Brady. “However, I would not describe it as definitively stronger than 90% of your peers, since research has not established age-specific percentile rankings for people over 60.” In other words, a controlled 30-second hold per side is a genuinely strong result and a useful personal benchmark, but the exact percentile is not something the science can pin down. So treat it as a sign of good muscular endurance rather than a precise ranking against everyone else your age.

4 Morning Exercises That Firm Sagging Arms Faster Than Weights After 60

How to Hold a Single-Leg Bridge

Like any exercise, form is king when it comes to getting the most out of the single-leg bridge hold. Always aim to maintain control during the hold instead of pushing yourself so hard that you compromise form just to reach a certain amount of time on the clock.

“The hold should finish when you can no longer maintain good form, rather than when you simply reach a target time,” Brady says. “If your hips start to drop or drift out of level, that’s your signal to stop and note the time.”

How to do it:

  1. Lie on your back with one knee bent and the same foot planted, while holding your other leg raised off the floor.
  2. Push through your planted foot to lift your hips.
  3. Bring your body into a straight line and keep your pelvis level.
  4. Hold the position without letting your hips gradually drop.
  5. Stop when your form breaks down, then note your time and repeat on the other side.

4 Kitchen-Counter Exercises That Flatten Belly Overhang Faster Than Gym Classes After 60

Why This Test Is Important

According to research, the single-leg bridge engages your glutes, hamstrings, and the muscles responsible for stabilizing your pelvis and trunk. “These muscles become increasingly important with age because hip strength is associated with functional tasks such as stepping and maintaining mobility in adults over 60,” explains Brady. “Being able to control your body on one leg for an extended stretch is a useful signal that those muscles are doing their job.”

If you fall short of 30 seconds, no biggie. That’s simply your starting point to improve upon. Plan to retest every few weeks, work on the bridge and other hip-strengthening moves in between tests, and watch your hold time increase as your hip strength improves. The ability to control your body on one leg for an extended period is an excellent sign of good muscular endurance.

Oura Ring Technology Helps Uncover Grim Discovery of Missing Utah Guardsman in Wife’s Murder Case

0

Authorities in Utah are investigating a disturbing case involving a mother, Jennifer Gledhill, who stands accused of murdering her husband, Matthew Johnson, while he slept. The incident occurred after what was described as a night of drunken intimacy. Both Gledhill and her husband were wearing Oura Rings, which could be instrumental in uncovering the location of his hidden grave.

The Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office recently unsealed a search warrant that highlights investigators’ focus on data from the Oura rings worn by Gledhill and Johnson. This data, collected between September 20 and October 1, 2024, may be crucial in piecing together the events leading up to Johnson’s suspected murder, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Police are particularly interested in the GPS data logged by the Oura rings, hoping it will provide precise information about where Gledhill may have hidden her husband’s body.

A woman in a navy shirt and glasses is led by a police officer into a room.

Jennifer Gledhill, 42, pleaded not guilty to murder and waived her right to a preliminary hearing on Feb. 6 at the Matheson Courthouse in Salt Lake City. Fox13

Evidence from the day of the alleged crime includes photos confirming that Gledhill had her ring on. Furthermore, Johnson’s participation in the Utah National Guard is noted, with confirmation that he also owned an Oura ring, as reported by ABC4.

It is alleged that Gledhill, who resides in Cottonwood Heights, turned off her phone and other electronic devices before using a minivan to transport Johnson to a shallow grave. This has complicated efforts to locate the victim’s body.

The 43-year-old was arrested on suspicion of murder after she allegedly confessed to her alleged lover, though she did not disclose the location to him, police said.

Following Johnson’s death, the mom of three allegedly reported him missing on Sept. 28 — eight days after detectives believe he was killed.

The cold-blooded killing reportedly came after a night of drunken sex with her husband during which Gledhill admitted to having an affair, according to investigators.

Her alleged lover — who has not been named — claimed Gledhill told him her husband had confronted her on Sept. 20 and “yelled at her because he knew she had been sleeping with someone else.”

A family of five, with faces blurred, stands outdoors in tall grass with green bushes in the background.

Gledhill, 43, allegedly turned off her phone and other electronic devices before leaving the minivan she drove to bury him in a shallow grave.  Jennifer Gledhill Facebook Photo

“The defendant told [her lover] that she shot Mr. Johnson [the next day] as he slept in their bed … that she put Mr. Johnson’s body into a rooftop storage container, slid him down the stairs of their home, and loaded his body into the back of their minivan,” investigators said in their report.

Gledhill “then took her husband’s body north, dug a hole, and buried him in a shallow grave,” the Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill added.

She was caught on surveillance cameras thoroughly cleaning out the car after the alleged killing.

Gledhill’s parents, Thomas and Rosalie Gledhill, now 73 and 69, respectively, were also arrested and charged after investigators believe they uncovered evidence that they helped their daughter cover up the gruesome crime.

Decoding the Coyote Vs. Acme Controversy: Key Takeaways

0

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lrzhpbb9EIk[/embed>

In the world of filmmaking, the journey from concept to audience is often straightforward—dream up a storyline, secure the funding, and release the movie to awaiting viewers. Yet, the tale of “Coyote vs. Acme” defies this formula in a most bewildering way. Initially shelved by Warner Bros., its eventual 2026 debut seemed almost miraculous. Curious about what led to this rollercoaster of a release? Dive into our video and explore the full story below.

Inspired by a satirical piece published in The New Yorker, “Coyote vs. Acme” imagines the Looney Tunes character Wile E. Coyote suing the fictional Acme corporation over the faulty contraptions they sold him in his endless pursuit of the Roadrunner. Comedy’s powerhouse, Will Forte, steps into the role of Kevin Avery, a lawyer with a knack for grabbing Wile E.’s attention courtesy of his billboard dominance. The film adds a comedic punch with John Cena portraying Buddy Crane, the legal frontman for Acme and someone from Kevin’s past. This delightful mix of live-action and animation recalls classics like “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” and “Space Jam,” transforming “Coyote vs. Acme” from merely good into something exceptional.

But why was Warner Bros. so eager to discard this gem? Despite the story’s longstanding appeal—since Ian Frazier’s 1990 New Yorker article—it lingered in development limbo as Warner Bros. routinely restricted use of Looney Tunes characters. Even aspiring director James Gunn faced turned-down efforts in 2015. It wasn’t until 2022 that director David Green brought the film to life in Albuquerque, New Mexico. However, a reshuffling in the schedule ousted its anticipated July 2023 slot in favor of “Barbie,” casting doubt over its future.

Warner Bros. canceled Coyote vs. Acme, another studio swooped in, and the rest is hilarious history

The plot thickened in November 2023 when Warner Bros. decided to axe the release of “Coyote vs. Acme,” fueling an unsettling trend where films completed to fruition met premature endings. This fate mirrored the cancellation of Leslie Grace’s “Batgirl” earlier in 2023, another casualty under Warner Bros.’ oversight. Orchestrating these outcomes was David Zaslav, CEO of the newly merged Warner Bros. Discovery since 2021. Zaslav, embracing “cost-cutting measures,” saw value in turning “Coyote vs. Acme” into a mere tax write-off, eschewing its release in favor of financial maneuvering.

Thankfully, the team behind “Coyote vs. Acme” didn’t take this lying down. Director David Green posted an emotional appeal on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), which was shared by fans hoping to see the film eventually … and Will Forte also spoke out on X and lamented the loss of this project. Even Texas representative Joaquin Castro spoke out on the platform, saying, “The [Warner Bros. Discovery] tactic of scrapping fully made films for tax breaks is predatory and anti-competitive. As the Justice Department and [the Federal Trade Commission] revise their antitrust guidelines they should review this conduct. As someone remarked, it’s like burning down a building for the insurance money.”

So who saved the day? Ketchup Entertainment, the non-theatrical partner of Open Road Films (which made, among other films, the Oscar winner “Spotlight”). Ketchup picked “Coyote vs. Acme” up in 2024, and even though The Hollywood Reporter called the move a “massive gamble,” it paid off with critics and audiences … and after the weekend, we’ll know about the box office results. “Coyote vs. Acme,” thanks to Ketchup, is in theaters now.

Trump Secures Historic Oil Deal with Venezuela to Boost US Reserves Twofold

0

In an announcement that shook the oil industry, former President Donald Trump declared he has secured what he calls “the biggest oil deal in world history” following negotiations with Venezuela.

According to Trump, this landmark agreement grants the United States control over more than 65 billion barrels of proven oil reserves. He believes this move will lead to a significant reduction in gas prices for Americans everywhere.

Trump attributed the success of these negotiations to the efforts of Marco Rubio and Pete Hegseth, who played key roles in securing the deal with Venezuela’s Interim President, Delcy Rodriguez.

“This historic transaction more than doubles American oil reserves,” Trump proclaimed on Truth Social on Friday. He emphasized that it will not only amplify the nation’s oil supply but also promise considerable reductions in gas prices for the foreseeable future, all while supporting Venezuela on its journey toward “tremendous success and great prosperity.”

The former president also assured the American public that the deal was brokered at “no cost to the American taxpayer.”

‘This Transaction will greatly strengthen the already growing relationship between Venezuela and the United States!’

The deal is the second Trump has made with the new Venezuelan government since early January’s late night deposition of Maduro.

The president has openly stated that the military operation to oust Maduro was, in part, an attempt to extract some of oil-rich Venezuela’s stock.

Rodriguez previously served as Maduro’s Minister of Petroleum and Hydrocarbons.

In a post to X, Secretary of State Rubio called the deal ‘a huge win for both the American and Venezuelan people.’

‘It demonstrates how President Trump’s bold foreign policy is driving America First wins: securing stable reserves and low-cost oil in our Hemisphere and lowering gas prices here at home,’ he said.

‘For the Venezuelan people, this deal will bring nearly $100 billion in private investment, support thousands of high-paying jobs, and drive the reconstruction of Venezuela’s economy.’

Trump faces mounting pressure to address high gas prices as the war in Iran reaches a six-month milestone with no conclusion in sight.

The US has tapped its strategic petroleum reserves, which in early August fell below 300 million barrels, down by more than 100 million barrels since the start of 2026.

In the days following Maduro´s ouster in January, Trump floated the idea of U.S. oil companies returning to Venezuela to tap its oil reserves.

Trump has argued that Venezuela stole US oil when former Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez’s moved decades ago to nationalize hundreds of foreign-owned assets, including those owned by American oil companies.

Venezuela has one of the largest oil reserves in the world, with an estimated 303 billion barrels of crude oil in the ground.

That´s about 17 percent of the world´s supply, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

Unlike other parts of the world, where geologists have to search for untapped oil, the reserves under Venezuela´s soil are largely mapped and known, experts say.

But because of dilapidated infrastructure, the country only produces about one percent of the world´s oil.

The US-Israel war against Iran has led to a dramatic slowdown of Gulf oil moving through the Strait of Hormuz, which about 20 percent of the world petroleum passed through prior to the conflict.

The average price of gas in the US stood at about $4.09 a gallon on Friday, according to AAA. The average price was $3.21 at the same time last year.

Trump in his social media post Friday evening alluded to the Venezuela deal being part of a private partnership.

The White House did not immediately reply to The Daily Mail’s request for comment about the private sector partners involved in the deal, and details on how the arrangement would work were not provided.

Persuading big American oil companies to return the region could face headwinds given and decades of badly damaged infrastructure.

Days after the ouster of Maduro, Trump gathered oil executives at the White House and called on them to rush back into Venezuela.

Executives expressed interest in the opportunity but there was also a measure of caution given their past experience in the country.

Darren Woods, CEO of ExxonMobil, the largest U.S. oil company, said at that moment he saw the country as ‘un-investable.’

But Trump has insisted that his administration has brought a measure of stability to Venezuela.

He has argued that Venezuela stole US oil when former Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez´s moved decades ago to nationalize hundreds of foreign-owned assets, including those owned by American oil companies.

Rodriguez, in one of her early moves after taking power, signed a law that opens the nation´s oil sector to privatization and reversed a bedrock tenet of the self-proclaimed socialist movement that had ruled the country for more than two decades.

The Venezuelan government’s press office did not immediately respond to The Daily Mail’s request for comment.

Unveiling Lindsay Clancy’s Journey Through Mental Health Treatment

0

Lindsay Clancy, who faces trial over the tragic death of her three children, recently opened up about her life within the confines of a mental health hospital, where she has resided for over three years.

On August 21, the courtroom heard from Dr. Avram Mack, a seasoned psychiatrist and expert witness representing the prosecution. Dr. Mack shared insights from his interviews with Clancy at Tewksbury Hospital.

Dr. Mack described Clancy as “friendly and cooperative” during their April conversation. She offered a glimpse into her daily routine at the psychiatric facility, highlighting her preference for solitude.

“She mostly stays in bed or keeps to herself,” Dr. Mack noted, recalling Clancy’s account. “Interaction with other patients seemed limited, but she did mention collaborating with the staff, including a therapist.”

In addition, Clancy, who is paralyzed from the waist down, has engaged with a physical therapist at Tewksbury to aid her condition.

“She stated she wasn’t very interested in the physical therapy that she was getting there,” he noted. “She wasn’t interested in the food there.”

Family and religious figures also stopped by to see her at the hospital. “She described having visitors,” Mack said, “on a not infrequent basis, and that sometimes, she was able to eat food or drinks that were brought in by them.”

According to Mack, Clancy also described in their conversation “that she wasn’t very interested in her own hygiene or grooming.”

“Showering is embarrassing. It requires staff to help her, and that’s one way in which she would rather not,” he testified of Clancy, who uses a wheelchair. “It may also be that she described a lack of interest—so, it’s both components.”

Clancy also spoke to her mental state, allegedly detailing her grief over her current situation.

“She described feeling depressed, which she termed situational depression,” the psychiatrist said. “She described feeling—I’m not sure the exact term she used—but feeling miserable, not wanting to be alive.”

Dr. Mack was one of 85 witnesses who testified in the month-long trial. The prosecution and defense presented their closing arguments on Aug. 27, and the jury began deliberations on a verdict.

Clancy is facing three counts of first-degree murder in the 2023 deaths of her and her ex-husband Patrick Clancy’s three children: 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson and 8-month-old Callan. While prosecutors contend that Clancy acted “intentionally, rationally, and swiftly” and knew right from wrong, her defense team argues that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis at the time of the killings and therefore is not criminally responsible.

If convicted of first-degree murder, Clancy faces life in prison without the possibility of parole. If she is found not guilty by reason of lack of criminal responsibility, she would instead be committed to a mental health facility.

Terry Francona Expresses Outrage Over Leak of Reds’ Waiver Moves

0

Terry Francona has voiced his frustration over the public revelation of the Reds’ waiver activities.

Recently, the Cincinnati Reds placed veteran third baseman Eugenio Suarez and outfielder TJ Friedl on outright waivers, allowing 29 other MLB franchises a 48-hour window to claim these players and take on their salaries.

As predicted by insiders, neither Suarez nor Friedl was claimed, and they subsequently remained on the Reds’ roster as the team headed into their Chicago series.

Francona is notably upset that details of a typically confidential process were leaked to the media.

“Those who fail to keep these matters confidential ought to be ashamed,” Francona reportedly stated via journalist Charlie Goldsmith. “If you’re a leader in any organization, you have the responsibility to maintain that confidentiality. When that responsibility is ignored, it makes me really angry.”

Suarez is still owed about $3 million on his one-year, $15 million contract signed this offseason. He has a mutual option for 2027, though it’s unlikely to be picked up.

“I’ve got nothing to say about it,” Suárez said. “It’s not part of my job. Whatever they decide to do, it’s their business. My business is to play baseball.”

Suarez, who has spent the majority of his career in Cincinnati, is in the middle of a career-worst season, during which he has a .705 OPS along with 19 home runs while serving as the team’s primary designated hitter.

The slugger was the Reds’ big-ticket free agent this offseason after whiffing at signing hometown darling Kyle Schwarber, who went to the Phillies.

Friedl, on the other hand, has split his time between Triple-A and the bigs this year after being a mainstay in the Reds’ 2025 lineup. He has a .476 OPS in 76 games and will make roughly $700,000 the rest of the season.

Both players generated little interest at the trade deadline, and neither is expected to stay with the Reds beyond 2026.

Francona is in his second season at the helm for the Reds and his 25th overall as a manager. Last season, he became the 13th manager to reach the 2,000-win threshold and sits at 11th on the all-time list with 2,096.

He’s the winningest active manager, with more than double the wins of A.J. Hinch and Dave Roberts, the only other active managers with over 1,000 victories.

With one more season on his Reds contract and a club option in 2028, he’ll be chasing Joe McCarthy (2,125 wins) to crack the top 10 to end what is surely a Hall of Fame managerial career.

Tragic Muscle Car Crash Claims Teen Lives: Drivers Finally Identified

0

Authorities have identified the drivers accused of causing a tragic accident on a California roadway, resulting in the deaths of two young girls. The incident left the suspects fleeing, with one abandoning his eight-year-old son in the vehicle, according to the prosecutors.

Terry Lamar Easter, aged 50, and George Gary Sanchez, 49, found themselves under arrest after the devastating loss of 17-year-old Maddalyn Dailey and her best friend, 16-year-old Isabell Hill.

On the evening of August 14, around 8:30 PM, Dailey was driving Hill home when their car was violently struck at a Victorville intersection by two speeding muscle cars, effectively splitting their vehicle in two. Sadly, both teenagers succumbed to their injuries on the spot.

Easter turned himself in to the authorities on a Wednesday morning. Allegedly, he was behind the wheel of a yellow Chevrolet Camaro, reaching speeds up to 117 miles per hour, with his injured young son seated beside him, as stated by the San Bernardino District Attorney’s Office.

Investigators reported that the yellow Camaro was the initial vehicle to collide with the teenagers’ car. Before the authorities arrived, the driver hastily exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot, according to police accounts.

The second vehicle to collide with the teens was a black Dodge Charger allegedly driven by Sanchez, who remained on scene and was said to be cooperating with investigators.

‘I saw everything,’ Dustin Dailey, Dailey’s father, told the Los Angeles Times. ‘The ball of fire from the other car that hit it, her car in pieces.’

Dailey said his daughter was driving Hill home and promised she would be back for dinner.

He said he watched the garage door close and the roar of a car exhaust echoed through the street before the blood-curdling sound of crash caused him to rush just four houses down and discover the horrifying scene.

‘They were ejected from [the car], thrown clear down the road,’ he told the outlet.

The California Highway Patrol said in a release that the ‘violent impact’ caused Dailey’s Acura to ‘split in half.’

Easter was charged with two counts of murder in the girls’ deaths, as well as a misdemeanor racing charge and a felony charge of child abuse likely to cause serious injury or death, the District Attorney’s Office announced.

‘This was not an accident. Street racing at 117 mph is a deliberate and extraordinarily dangerous choice that ended the lives of two young best friends, exposing his own eight-year-old child to that danger and abandoning his child after the crash to flee the scene,’ DA Jason Anderson said.

‘We intend to hold him responsible for every life devastated by his alleged actions.’

Sanchez has yet to be charged, the district attorney noted. Both were booked on suspicion of murder and gross vehicular manslaughter with negligence, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Three others were arrested by law enforcement in connection to the investigation during the hunt for Easter.

Ryan James Lewis, 45, Lukevy Shawntell Yates, 49, and Madge Wells, 74, were arrested and charged for allegedly being accessories after the fact. All three cooperated with law enforcement and were later released from custody, the outlet reported.

‘While nothing can erase the devastating loss of two young lives, we hope these arrests bring some measure of comfort to their families and send a clear message that those responsible for senseless acts will be held accountable,’ Chief Tariq Johnson, commander of the CHP Inland Division, said.

Dailey’s father told the outlet that Ridgecrest Road has a deadly reputation for frequent street racing and speeding drivers, so much so that he often suggested his daughter take alternative routes to avoid it.

‘She’s usually pretty good about it because everybody that lives here knows that road is just a deathtrap,’ he said.

Street racing in Victorville has been a pervasive issue for years. The Victorville Police Department urged drivers to exercise caution in 2021 after a ‘speed contest’ incident.

‘The Victorville Police Department urges drivers and parents of drivers to consider the seriousness of illegal street racing,’ the release said.

‘This activity can take lives, cost thousands of dollars in damages and fines, and land participants in jail. In the end there is no “winner.”’

He has also considered pushing for the stretch of road to be designated a safety corridor, with an increased law enforcement presence and higher fines, the outlet reported.

But the devastated grieving father is left remembering his young daughter as someone who ‘lived life to the fullest.’

He described both teenagers as fun-loving and kind, with a lot of life they had left to live, the outlet reported.

Easter is set to be arraigned on August 31 at Victorville Superior Courthouse.

Teen Caught with 60g Marijuana & Illegal Weapon: Police Report

0

HAWTHORNE, Fla. – In a surprising turn during a routine traffic stop, 18-year-old Latrelvious Jahmar Strickland was arrested yesterday on multiple felony charges. This came after deputies discovered over 60 grams of marijuana and a firearm missing a serial number during a search that was carried out on the grounds of probable cause.

The incident unfolded at approximately 3:05 p.m. on August 27. An Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy initiated the traffic stop as Strickland failed to halt correctly at a stop sign and executed a wide turn along the bustling 6900 SE U.S. Hwy 301, posing a potential hazard to nearby vehicles.

Strickland informed the deputy that while he possessed a learner’s permit, he did not have it in his possession. The situation was further complicated as the sole other vehicle occupant was a 16-year-old passenger, leading the deputy to conclude Strickland was violating restrictions associated with his permit. Additionally, Strickland’s extreme nervousness did not escape the deputy’s notice.

The deputy reported detecting a potent scent of burnt marijuana emanating from Strickland and his vehicle. Strickland admitted to having smoked marijuana roughly an hour before the stop. However, he stated he neither possessed a medical marijuana card nor had any marijuana currently with him.

Moreover, the juvenile passenger asserted that he had not consumed any marijuana and had merely been picked up from school shortly before the stop.

Deputies conducted a probable-cause search of the vehicle, based on the smell of marijuana, and reportedly found a handgun with a missing serial number, a realistic-looking AR-15-style air rifle with no orange tip, about 3.6 grams of tobacco mixed with marijuana, a large bag of marijuana that weighed about 55.1 grams, and a digital scale.

As deputies walked the juvenile to a patrol vehicle, a bag containing about 6.1 grams of marijuana reportedly fell from his pants.

Post Miranda, the juvenile reportedly said nothing in the vehicle was his except for his backpack, which only contained school supplies. He said he believed the air rifle belonged to Strickland’s sister, the large bag of marijuana belonged to Strickland, and when they were pulled over, Strickland told him to conceal the small bag of marijuana, which had been loose in the vehicle. He said he didn’t tell deputies about the marijuana in his pants because he was scared.

The juvenile was released.

Post Miranda, Strickland reportedly admitted to driving in violation of learner permit restrictions and said he knew he would be charged with the items found in the vehicle. However, he denied knowing anything about any of those items and said they were not his, specifically including the large bag of marijuana, the scale, and the handgun. He denied selling drugs or telling the juvenile to hide the small bag of marijuana.

Strickland reportedly said that it was the first time he had driven the vehicle, which belongs to a friend’s mother, but a relative of Strickland came to the scene and reportedly said it was Strickland’s everyday vehicle. When the deputy asked Strickland about that, he reportedly said he had misunderstood the deputy’s question and meant it was the first time he had driven it that day; he acknowledged driving the vehicle regularly.

Strickland has been charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell within 1,000 feet of a convenience store (the Chevron gas station), possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana, tampering with evidence, possession of an altered firearm, possession of drug equipment, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Strickland’s full criminal history is unavailable because those documents are not posted when an offense includes a juvenile, but he has no adult local criminal history. Judge Meshon Rawls set bail at $165,000.
