Pro-Trans Activists Rally Against Sophie Cunningham in Intense Scenes Before Fever vs. Liberty Game Amid WNBA Controversy

0

It’s become a familiar sight: young fans decked out in No 22 Caitlin Clark jerseys, both home and away, eagerly marching into Indiana Fever games. Yet, more frequently, arenas across the WNBA have become hotspots for protest and impassioned calls surrounding a contentious issue.

Such tensions flared again this past Saturday ahead of the Fever’s clash with the New York Liberty, as the divisive debate over transgender athletes roared back into the spotlight.

The frontlines were marked outside Barclays Center, where vocal campaigners both supporting and opposing trans athletes in women’s sports expressed their fervor, reaching a high-stakes intensity.

Meanwhile, the opposing camp rallied loud and clear. Amidst a sea of national flags, participants wore shirts printed with “XX-XY” and hoisted signs demanding the exclusion of transgender athletes from women’s sports, championing Indiana Fever’s own Sophie Cunningham.

The advocacy group, XX-XY Athletics, firmly stood beside Cunningham, using the platform to decry the WNBA’s policies regarding gender eligibility and advocating for a reevaluation of the rules.

Amy Sousa, an organizer of the campaign, insisted that the group’s message was not anti-trans but about protecting girls in women’s sports.

‘This is about privacy,’ she told the Daily Mail. ‘This is about safety. This is about fairness on the basis of our sex. We just want sports segregated on sex. We don’t care about anyone’s identity as long as they play on the team of their sex.’

Cunningham sparked a firestorm when she spoke out about ‘protecting young girls’ in women’s sports, embroiling the league in a fierce debate over transgender athletes.

Her comments sparked backlash around the WNBA, while some of her supporters raised concerns over their treatment at recent games.

‘It was so inspiring because she is a sparkly, sassy personality,’ Sousa added. ‘So when she came out and said that she protects girl sports and in the locker room and on the field, it was really cool. I think that was a remarkable moment.

‘She has such integrity. She stands with her word. She means what she says, and we respect that. We want to show her and the world that we’re here cheering her on.’

Following Cunningham’s comments, two former NBA players, Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White, have since seized upon the issue as a chance to make a political point. Both have announced plans to enter the 2027 WNBA Draft, challenging the league’s transgender eligibility policy.

The WNBA’s collective bargaining agreement states only women are eligible to play. But with no explicit definition of the term or detail on a transgender participation policy, Kanter and White have decided to try and test those rules, with the campaign rejected by the league as a ‘bad-faith’ effort.

Sousa hit out at WNBA, claiming that its current eligibility criteria exposed the league to vulnerability.

‘I’ve been a little bit disappointed with the league,’ she said. ‘I think the league could support their players a little bit more. I think every day that they do not take a strong position to protect their sport on the basis of sex, they are vulnerable.

‘What we’re seeing with Enes Kanter and Royce White, they are exposing how vulnerable this league is right now. They’re vulnerable to any man. We think the league is leaving itself very vulnerable to infiltration by any man who says that he’s a woman.’

Sousa also suggested that the fallout of the debate engulfing the league should mark the end of WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert’s tenure.

‘I think it’s really embarrassing,’ she said. ‘It’s very disappointing the way she chose to carry herself. I don’t think she has any place standing up and being a leader.’

Meanwhile, tensions began to boil over when protestors from different sides of the debate began to clash in heated scenes.

One man sporting a Mexico jersey and sombrero, barged into the midst of the pro-trans rally and began declaring that he wanted to declare for the WNBA Draft.

His controversial declaration was met with instant outrage from the campaigners who began blowing whistles in his face and retaliating with chants of ‘trans kids belong.’

Police were forced to intervene when the confrontation reached boiling point with a horde of five NYPD officers escorting him away from the scene to the cheers of the furious protestors.

Cunningham has been met with boos at most games while protests and counter demonstrations supporting her have become commonplace at games around the country.

Liberty season ticketholder and pro-trans supporter Kristen revealed that she would be in the former group, emphatically answering ‘yes’ when asked if she would be booing the Fever guard during Saturday’s game.

‘Sophie Cunningham is kind of like a throwaway athlete in my opinion, a bench-warmer kind of person, lanky sort of MAGA Barbie,’ she told the Daily Mail.

‘I think that she just dog whistled to this group to probably benefit financially. I think it’s low-key grotesque what she’s doing and riding on the coattails of Caitlin Clark, which is just goofy.’

Cunningham was once again booed with jeers echoing around Barclays Center as he name was called out by the announcer called out her name. In fact, the only time she was met with cheers was when she was called for a foul much the joy of the home fans.

Unlike Sousa, Kristen welcomed the WNBA’s response to Cunningham’s comments, praising players, coaches and teams from around the league for speaking out.

‘I’m proud that our team is like on the right side of this moment,’ she said of the Liberty.

She added: ‘I’d love to see WNBA turn it up a little bit, maybe [do something about] fan hate speech, kind of waiting for that.’

Liberty superstar Breanna Stewart spoke out on the debate which has dominated headlines surrounding the WNBA in recent weeks, attempting to quell the anger.

‘Knowing that rallies are happening on both sides shows the platform that the W has and the stunts for attention are just continuing to try and ride the wave that we have,’ the two-time MVP told a small group of reporters Saturday morning.

‘I want Liberty fans and even Indy fans that are going to come here tonight to be able to have this arena be a safe space.’

Unlock Ultimate Relief: 4 Nightly Stretches to Soothe Stiff Shoulders After 60

0

If you often find your shoulders in knots, these evening stretches might just be your solution.

>

Have you ever wrapped up your day feeling like Atlas, burdened under the world’s weight? Stress, a slouchy posture, and a lack of movement are major culprits in causing shoulder tension. These factors lead to muscle tightness around your neck and shoulders, leaving you feeling rigid and uneasy. A massage can offer some respite, but frequenting a massage parlor isn’t always light on the wallet if shoulder stiffness is a recurring issue.

In search of a more practical strategy, we consulted with specialists who suggest a series of four stretches to incorporate into your nightly routine. This practice promises to ease stiffness more swiftly than a pricey massage.

“Stretching realistically enhances muscle and connective tissue flexibility and joint mobility to a degree, which may reduce stiffness, tension, and discomfort. It can assist with actions like reaching overhead, dressing, or carrying out daily tasks,” clarifies Rasika Bhide, DPT, MS, OCS, a Board-Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist and Licensed Physical Therapist in NJ, NY, and TX. “Although stretching can’t resolve joint immobility stemming from arthritis, significant joint wear, or structural issues, it can improve the comfort and mobility of tissues around the shoulder. The aim is to maximize current mobility and minimize needless tension.”

Wall Pectoral Stretch

“This opens the front of the chest and reduces tightness in the pectoral muscles that can often result in rounded shoulders and limited shoulder movement,” Bhide tells us.

  1. Begin standing beside a wall with your right side facing the surface.
  2. Plant your right palm and forearm against the wall with your elbow around shoulder level.
  3. Gradually turn your chest and torso away from the wall until you feel a gentle stretch across the right side of your chest.
  4. Hold for the prescribed time before returning to the start position.
  5. Repeat on the other side.

4 Chair Exercises That Restore Shoulder Mobility After 65, According to a Trainer

Upper Trapezius Stretch

“The upper trapezius becomes overactive or tight from prolonged sitting, forward-head stance and age-related postural change. Gentle stretching can reduce tension in the neck and top of the shoulder,” Bhide says.

  1. Begin by sitting or standing tall with your arms at your sides.
  2. Maintain a tall chest and gently roll your shoulder blades down.
  3. Slowly tilt your head to the left, bringing your left ear toward your left shoulder.
  4. Hold for the prescribed amount of time.
  5. Release.
  6. Repeat on the other side.

Supine Shoulder Flexion

“If your shoulders are stiff, stop when you start to feel pain and do less motion. Don’t push through pain,” Dr. Owen Campbell, PT, Physical Therapist and Owner of Simplify Motion, a PT clinic in Phoenix, Arizona, instructs.

  1. Begin by lying flat on your back.
  2. Grab a stick, cane, or umbrella.
  3. Starting with the stick at your waist, reach it overhead, keeping your arms straight the entire time.
  4. Lower.

If You Can Pass These 3 Shoulder Tests, Your Mobility Is Top-Tier

Open Book

“This is a good stretch for stiffness in your thoracic spine, which is a big reason for many people’s stiff shoulders,” explains Dr. Campbell.

  1. Begin by lying on your side.
  2. Bring your knees up close to a fetal position.
  3. Reach your arms out in front of you, one hand on top of the other, keeping your elbows straight.
  4. Take your top arm and lead it over to the other side of the bed as if you are looking behind you.
  5. Return to the start position.
  6. Repeat on the other side.

Tom Brady Praises Son’s Athletic Superiority in Heartfelt Revelation

0

While Tom Brady is widely regarded as the greatest football player in history, it turns out the athletic prowess runs deep in his family, extending beyond the gridiron.

His daughter Vivian has showcased a natural talent for volleyball, while his eldest son, Jack, has been making waves in basketball with his impressive skills on the court.

Brady highlighted his son’s athletic achievements in a heartfelt Instagram post celebrating Jack’s birthday. Accompanying several photos of Jack playing basketball, the post warmly expressed, “Happy 19th birthday, Jack! 🎉 August 22, 2007 is a day I’ll never forget because that’s when you arrived and captured my heart (and took away my sleep… and patience… hahahaha).

“You’re kind, thoughtful, empathetic, and full of love! I’m incredibly proud of who you’ve become. You fill my heart with immense joy, and I’m grateful to be your dad. I’m excited to see where your journey takes you next,” Brady continued in his touching tribute.

Among the photos, one notably captures Jack poised to dunk a basketball. Brady, with a bit of humor, also shared this image on his Instagram story, musing, “Don’t think I could do that at 19….”

Jack is apparently six feet, six inches tall right now, which is a big part of why he has such a bright basketball future. It’s also why he has a clear dunking advantage over Brady, who was never known for his elite athleticism (even back when he was 19).

It will be fun to see what heights Jack can reach in his basketball career.

Rising Soccer Star from Adelaide Poised to Conquer Global Football Scene

0

Lucas Herrington, an Australian teenager, has made an electrifying debut in the Premier League, stepping in from the sidelines to secure a memorable 2-0 victory for Hull City against Manchester United.

The 18-year-old, representing Australia as the sole player in England’s top tier, was thrust into action when starting defender Nobel Mendy suffered an injury in the 64th minute.

Despite being the record $33 million Australian signing, Herrington delivered a flawless performance, aiding Hull in securing their first league win over United in more than half a century.

Widely dismissed as top candidates for relegation—with former England international Joe Cole ruffling feathers by declaring “Hull are gone, man”—Hull City surprised spectators with an impressive win over United, who showed lethargic build-up and lacked sharpness in their attack.

Earlier in the match, Nobel Mendy, who was signed alongside Herrington earlier in the month and chosen to start over the young Australian, netted Hull’s second goal in the 38th minute.

It inspired the inevitable chant around the MKM Stadium: “Are you watching, Joe Cole?!”

By that time, Michael Carrick’s United were already struggling to get to grips with a side that deservedly led through a couple of first-half set-pieces.

Centre-back Semi Ajayi opened the scoring in the 17th minute when United failed to deal with a corner, and then Regan Slater whipped in a 38th-minute free-kick that another central defender, Mendy, latched onto, nodding home expertly.

But when Mendy had to come off injured in the 64th minute, Herrington, a record $33 million signing for an Australian player, got his big moment, the former Colorado Rapids defender coming on in a triple substitution.

He became the first Aussie teenager to play in the Premier League since Harry Kewell and, at 18 years 351 days, is the third-youngest Aussie to play in England’s top flight.

The youngster with a big reputation for his calmness never looked fazed as United tried to eke their way back into the match with a series of largely lumbering attacks.

He only had nine touches amid United’s huff-and-puff, but they all told of a lad who already seems at home in this elevated company.

With Hull’s Bosnian boss Sergej Jakirovic revealing that Ajayi, Mendy and captain Lewis Coyle will all have to be assessed for their injuries over the next 24 hours, Herrington will next be in line to feature in Wednesday AEST’s League Cup tie at Championship side Stoke.

Then he may well feature in their next league game, a huge one at also-promoted Coventry, who lost their opener on Friday 3-0 at champions Arsenal.

Tragic Encounter: Man Fatally Shot After Meeting Mystery Woman at Nightclub

0

Steven Carden and Thomas Smith anticipated an enjoyable night out, but by dawn, tragedy had struck—Carden was left critically injured, and Smith was no longer alive.

The evening’s celebration took a sinister turn near an apartment complex in Norcross, Georgia. Authorities discovered Carden drenched in blood with a gunshot wound to his head. Nearby, Smith sat dazed on the curb, incoherently speaking about a girl.

Investigators were initially stumped, but a vital clue was left at the scene: a .40-caliber semiautomatic handgun shell casing.

“Under the circumstances, it was quite peculiar,” noted former Gwinnett County District Attorney Danny Porter on an Aug. 22 episode of Oxygen’s The Real Murders of Atlanta. “Hornady produces top-quality bullets, indicating that whoever committed this crime meticulously ensured the gun would function perfectly.”

What Happened to Steven Carden?

Detectives later approached Smith, who was healing from severe head injuries at the hospital. Despite his condition, he managed to recount the series of events leading up to the fatal incident on July 29.

In the hours before the murder, the friends went to a bar with $4,000 in cash. There, Carden met a woman, who he planned to meet later at an apartment complex.

While Smith drove, the woman texted Carden directions. At one point, Smith forgot to turn on the headlights and was stopped by police. An officer searching the car didn’t uncover anything illegal, a detail that Gwinnett County Homicide Detective Matthew Kenck pointed out, “Becomes important later.”

Smith was not intoxicated. However, the officer administered a field sobriety test that was inconclusive, so he took the car keys and told the men to arrange for another ride.

Carden and Smith were already within walking distance of the apartment, so the woman guided them along a route through a wooded trail and past an area with dumpsters.

But the friends realized they weren’t alone.

“They see that two men are following them,” reporter Tara Lombardo said. “They become increasingly scared and uneasy.”

The men eventually caught up with Smith and Carden and attacked. Smith said he tried to fight back but lost consciousness. When he woke, their $4,000 was gone and he was surrounded by first responders.

When detectives spoke to Carden’s family, they described him as a wonderful father and couldn’t think of anyone who wanted him dead.

Had Carden been duped into a deadly trap?

Carden’s phone records showed that the woman had used a prepaid burner phone, which can be difficult to trace. Still, the phone held messages about moving guns and mentioned an address in Snellville.

That address was linked to an attempted robbery by a teenage suspect who had used a .40-caliber gun loaded with Hornady ammunition. When detectives compared the gun with the shell casing recovered at Carden’s crime scene, it was a ballistic match.

The teen admitted to the attempted robbery—and said he bought the gun from a man named Jovian Lanus.

Jovian Lanus, Tyler Estrada and Diara Hood Become Suspects in Steven Carden’s Murder

Social media photos of Lanus matched Smith’s physical description of one of the suspects, but that wasn’t enough to tie him to Carden’s murder.

That is, until another violent crime surfaced.

A woman and two men had recently attempted to rob a landlord, and, during a struggle, the woman fired a warning shot, leaving behind a now-familiar piece of evidence: a .40-caliber Hornady shell casing identical to the one found at Carden’s crime scene.

“This is a huge connection for us,” noted Kenck. “But we still have a lot of holes in our case.”

Two of the suspects—Tyler Estrada, 18, and Diara Hood, 22—were in custody, and detectives wasted no time questioning them.

Hood told police that she recalled meeting Smith and Carden but denied involvement in the murder.

“They were talking about partying and stuff like that,” she claimed in a recorded interview. “What they really wanted was sex. They were supposed to meet me, but they never showed up.”

Detectives knew Hood’s story wasn’t that simple.

Phone data showed that each time Hood communicated with Carden, she immediately contacted Estrada or Lanus. Then, social media photos showed Hood, Estrada and Lanus posing with guns. One posted the night before the murder depicted Hood and Estrada at a club next to the one that Carden and Smith had visited.

Eventually, Hood opened up.

She claimed she had been giving Carden directions in the apartment while Estrada and Lanus were there. After the men left, she said, she stayed on the phone with Carden until she heard a commotion on the other end of the call and it suddenly disconnected. Moments later, she heard a gunshot.

Hood said Estrada and Lanus must have overheard her conversation and decided to attack the men.

Then, it was Estrada’s turn.

He confirmed to investigators that he and Lanus had intercepted Smith and Carden to rob them—but claimed the plan was Hood’s idea. Estrada said Lanus assaulted one of the men and as he headed back to the apartment, he heard a gunshot.

As police prepared to arrest Lanus, Estrada offered a warning.

“He said to expect resistance,” said Kenck, “that the doors were probably barricaded. Based on that, we get the SWAT team involved.”

On Nov. 8, 2013, authorities surrounded Lanus’ home and he surrendered.

Once in custody, Lanus claimed Carden had pulled a gun on him, forcing him to shoot in self-defense.

“This goes back to the traffic stop,” said Kenck. “We know he didn’t have a gun on him. In such a strange twist of events, that traffic stop helps prove there was never any evidence of a gun.”

Lanus, Hood and Estrada were charged with murder.

In Nov. 2015, Hood went to trial and was found guilty of murder and aggravated assault.

Lanus’ case took an unexpected turn.

While prosecutors played a recording of his police interrogation, he leaned over to consult with his attorney.

“Jovian paused the trial and he pled guilty,” Kenck said. “He knew there was no beating it.”

Meanwhile, Estrada pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Lanus and Hood were sentenced to life without parole.

Public Pulse Revealed: Overwhelming Majority Says Harry Should Take First Step to Reconcile with William

0

According to a significant poll released last night, Prince William is advised to let Prince Harry take the initiative in mending their fractured brotherly bond.

A mere four percent of the British public thinks the responsibility lies with the Prince of Wales to initiate reconciliation when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex visit the UK soon, as per a survey commissioned by The Mail on Sunday.

As the Royal Family convenes at Balmoral this weekend for their customary summer retreat, the startling news of Harry and Meghan contemplating a move back to Britain after spending six years in the United States continues to shock senior aides.

This surprising development, which came to King Charles’ attention just last Sunday, has instantly brought the longstanding estrangement between William, 44, and Harry, 41, into the spotlight.

The siblings have not communicated since the funeral of Queen Elizabeth in September 2022, and it is believed there has been a complete lack of contact for over two-and-a-half years.

Friends of the Waleses are said to have claimed the couple are unable to forgive a series of hugely damaging broadsides by the Sussexes after ‘Megxit’ in 2020, including a claim in Harry’s memoir Spare that William left him with visible ‘scrapes and bruises’ after an alleged fight between the pair.

Now a poll for the MoS by Find Out Now reveals that 31 per cent of those surveyed believe Harry should ‘make the first move’ in any attempted reconciliation with William.

Some 27 per cent believe they should make amends equally together, while just four per cent believe William should make the first move. A total of 11 per cent said neither should make the first move and 28 per cent said they do not know.

A survey commissioned by The Mail on Sunday has revealed just four per cent of Britons believe the Prince of Wales should forge a peace deal when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex return to the UK

Among the duke and duchess’s most damaging accusations was the claim during an  incendiary interview in 2021 with Oprah Winfrey that an unnamed royal had ‘concerns and conversations’ about how dark their then-unborn son Archie’s skin may be.

William later publicly stated that the Royal Family is ‘very much not a racist family’

The poll of 2,000 people found that 43 per cent believe the Sussexes should apologise for their comments. Just over a quarter said they should not apologise and 31 per cent said they do not know.

The results come as royal insiders claim that one of the King’s most trusted aides has made it his ‘number one task’ to repair the rift between William and Harry.

Former diplomat Theo Rycroft, who became deputy private secretary to the King in February, is said to hope that William could publicly acknowledge his brother. This, it claimed, could be as simple as appearing at the same event or in the same photograph.

‘A rapprochement between William and Harry remains a work in progress, and Theo is taking the lead,’ one source told the MoS.

Another said: ‘Under Theo’s watch William could publicly acknowledge his brother somehow. No one is expecting them to be friends but the drama has to end, for William’s sake as much as anyone’s.’

A source close to the King last night denied the claims, describing them as ‘baseless’ and ‘without foundation’. A source close to William also disputed their accuracy.

Those hoping for a reconciliation are pinning their hopes on a major black-tie event to be hosted on September 18 by The Diana Award, a charity in which both William and Harry act as patrons.

The charity, which celebrates young people who make a difference to the lives of others, is a crucial organisation for the princes, as it has played a key role in keeping their mother’s memory alive.

Next month’s event at the OWO Hotel in central London will mark the beginning of the build-up to the 30th anniversary next summer of Princess Diana’s death.

In recent years William and Harry have taken turns to participate in the charity’s events. The MoS understands William is not currently due to attend next month’s event and it is not known if the Sussexes will be there.

One senior royal observer last night cautioned that the ability of senior courtiers to influence any possible rapprochement between the brothers is strictly limited.

The source said: ‘It is not a matter for the advisers or the royal household. This is family and they’ll try to sort it out themselves, in private. Of course, the royal household would like a smooth path, reconciliation would make that smoother.

‘It would make their lives much easier. But they have no serious influence to make it happen. It would be seen as overreaching.

‘The King would like his sons to be on good terms. He’s living with cancer and doesn’t want his family divided. And, yes, he is talking to William about it in private.

‘But no one will be pressuring William, let alone telling him what to do. William is no fool, but he can be volatile and no one wants confrontation. Meanwhile, there is a general feeling of mistrust around Harry.’

Security officials are reportedly believed to be planning to restart their review of Harry’s claim for taxpayer-funded security.

The Royal and VIP Executive Committee was previously examining whether the Sussexes should automatically be given armed protection each time they visited the UK.

But the couple’s decision to live at an undisclosed non-royal residence outside of London may change the committee’s consideration of security. Experts last week told the Daily Mail that round-the-clock protection for a family could cost £3million to £5million a year.

Today’s MoS-commissioned poll shows an overwhelming majority – 68 per cent – believe Harry and Meghan should pay solely for their security.

Just two per cent said taxpayers should pay, while 12 per cent said the duke and duchess and the public should both contribute and 17 per cent did not know.

The public, however, appears split on the couple’s decision to return to the UK, with 27 per cent agreeing with the decision, 34 per cent disagreeing and 39 per cent responding ‘don’t know’.

NYC Police Investigator Under Fire for Comparing Officers to KKK

0

In a startling revelation, a member of New York City’s police oversight committee has come under fire for likening police officers to the Ku Klux Klan. This controversial comparison was highlighted by the NYPD detectives’ union, which is now urging city officials to overhaul the watchdog group.

Amadee Bility, an investigator with the Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB), drew fire for a 2020 Facebook post where she equated law enforcement officers with members of the KKK. The content came to light through a screenshot shared by the union.

Bility’s post stated, “The reason u don’t see cops shutting down KKK rallies is the same reason u don’t see hannah montana and miley cyrus sitting in the same room,” echoing a sentiment that implies a direct correlation between the two groups.

Further controversy arose from another post by Bility, which depicted a police officer kissing another man, accompanied by the caption: “Cops when Trump supporters break into the U.S. Capitol building.”

Following these revelations, Bility’s Facebook account was swiftly purged of these posts after the Detectives’ Endowment Association flagged them to the CCRB on Friday. The board is responsible for probing civilian grievances against police conduct.

A detective who was supposed to have an interview with Bility this week disovered the postings when he looked her up online, a union official said.

DEA President Scott Munro said the CCRB needs to “clean house.”

“The DEA will not allow detectives to sit across the table from a disgraceful CCRB investigator who has publicly compared the police to the KKK and pushed the disgusting narrative that cops assault the people they protect,” DEA President Scott Munro said in a statement. “Her own words make it crystal clear: she hates cops and has no business investigating them.”

Bility, a former NYPD Explorer, a program for teens interested in police work, wont be doing any interviews with cops until the probe was complete, an agency source said.

Bility didn’t return a call seeing comment.

This isn’t the first time CCRB investigators have been called out for anti-cop social media posts.

The PBA released the names of several investigators in May after finding anti-police bias on their social media.

CCRB spokesman Dakota Gardner said the agency is investigating the newest posts.

“The CCRB takes allegations of bias on the part of its staff extremely seriously,” Gardner said. “The Agency was notified of the Detective’s concerns on Friday and agreed to postpone the interview pending an investigation.”
