Olivia Rodrigo Backs Former Ohio Health Chief Amy Acton for Governor

0

Olivia Rodrigo made her backing for Democratic Ohio gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton unmistakable by presenting the politician with flowers during her latest concerts.

Acton shared a video on her Instagram of Rodrigo rushing up to the politician to present her with pink flowers while her adoring fans recorded the meeting. The day prior she also appeared onstage in a t-shirt that read ‘Amy Acton for Governor.’

The pop star staged the gesture while performing at Columbus’ Schottenstein Center on Thursday and Friday, giving Acton’s campaign a high-profile boost.

Acton, 60, is locked in a tight contest with Vivek Ramaswamy, the 41-year-old Republican who unsuccessfully ran for president in 2024.

Set to the studio recording of Rodrigo’s Stupid Song, footage shows the 23-year-old singer in a sleeveless pink tutu hurrying along a guarded walkway toward Acton, who was waiting beside a barrier.

Rodrigo, who recently criticized President Donald Trump for featuring her music in what she called a “grotesque” ICE video, beamed as she handed Acton a matching bouquet of pink flowers. The pair then leaned in for a hug.

The previous day, Rodrigo also appeared onstage wearing a T-shirt that read “Amy Acton for Governor.”

The video then shifted to the arena’s enormous jumbotron, where fans could see Rodrigo and Acton embracing.

As Rodrigo ran back toward the stage, Acton faced the camera with a gentle smile and lifted the bouquet for the crowd to see.

“So grateful to @oliviarodrigo for her support! Thank you for using your voice to inspire a new generation. It’s time to build a brighter future in Ohio,” Acton wrote in the caption.

The appearance followed Rodrigo’s public condemnation of the Trump administration for using one of her songs in an official video.

After the Department of Homeland Security used her song All-American B**ch in a video praising immigration enforcement raids, Rodrigo responded in the comments: “don’t ever use my songs to promote your racist, hateful propaganda.”

She later told NPR: “It was just so awful to see a song that I wrote about being trapped in a misogynistic box that we put women in … being put to these grotesque, cruel scenes of ICE raids.”

Rodrigo has repeatedly spoken out in support of Democratic candidates and progressive policies.

In August, before performing at the all-women Daisy Chain Fields festival, the singer also criticized Trump over his signing of legislation defending Planned Parenthood.

Acton’s Ohio governor race has grown increasingly contentious, particularly after Ramaswamy’s campaign released a controversial advertisement featuring Acton’s mother accusing her daughter of being a lifelong liar.

Instead of damaging Acton, however, the attack sparked a backlash and pulled Ramaswamy’s struggling campaign deeper into controversy. The fallout revived scrutiny of Acton’s long-standing estrangement from her 82-year-old mother, Donna Arthur.

In the clip, which was soundtracked to the studio version of Rodrigo's Stupid Song, the singer wore a sleeveless pink tutu as she rushed down a guarded walkway to greet Acton, who was standing against a barrier

Acton’s stepfather, Cledith Arthur, was charged with raping her in 1978, when she was just 12, but her mother denied her allegations and accused her of being a liar at the time.

Four years earlier, Arthur had been charged with incest over allegations involving his daughter Christine, according to contemporary newspaper accounts. Christine died in 2024 at 66.

After Arthur first appeared in court, Acton’s mother abandoned her and fled Ohio for Pennsylvania with Arthur after he was indicted.

Arthur was apparently never located by police after that, and he died in 2004.

He had pleaded not guilty but fled Ohio and never stood trial, according to court records.

Ramaswamy’s embattled ad took another blow when the Daily Mail revealed last week that Acton’s long-lost stepsister has come forward to state that she believes Acton’s account of her turbulent childhood, saying the candidate’s claims about sexual abuse by her stepfather and the family living in a tent are true.c

The 62-year-old Youngstown, Ohio, family member, who asked that her name be withheld, is the biological daughter of Cledith ‘Bud’ Arthur, who married Acton’s mother, Donna, in 1975.

Speaking exclusively to the Daily Mail from the porch of her modest home in this old steel town and sometimes breaking down in sobs, the woman said that, prior to marrying Donna, Cledith Arthur raped her late sister, Christine, when she was about the same age as Amy.

‘Yes, he raped her, and it was more than once,’ the woman said.

The controversial ad debuted around October 20, in the final days of the tightly-contested November 3 election as Ramaswamy seeks to defeat Acton, a physician and former Ohio health director.

The minute-long video features Donna Arthur, now 82, telling Ohio voters that her daughter cannot be trusted. (Arthur previously gave a lengthy interview to the pro-life organization Operation Rescue in 2020, in which she said that Acton’s claim that she moved 18 times in the first 12 years of her life was not true and that Amy lied. She also indicated that Amy’s allegation that Cledith raped her, as well as Christine Arthur’s similar claim, were ‘unfounded.’)

‘It’s not easy for a mother to say this, but Amy has a serious problem,’ Arthur says in the video.

‘She lies about her past. She says she grew up living in a tent. None of that is true. She’s lied her entire life.’

Arthur urges voters not to elect her daughter, whom she has not seen since 1978.

While he was not mentioned in the ad, Ramaswamy acknowledged that his campaign produced it and committed $4 million to promoting it, despite criticism from members of his own party.

President Donald Trump, meanwhile, defended the Republican candidate’s decision to continue running the commercial.

Acton’s brother, Philip Stearns, also condemned the advertisement, saying their mother, Arthur, had remained married to the man accused of abusing Acton even after the children were removed from the household.

‘I received a lot of abuse, but Amy always got the worst of it,’ Stearns said in a response video released by Acton’s campaign.

Acton has repeatedly recounted her turbulent childhood in Youngstown, describing periods when her family lived in a tent and moved between unstable homes.

She has said the last time she saw her mother was in a Youngstown courthouse when she was 12.

‘I went to give her a kiss on the cheek and she turned away,’ Acton recalled in a recent interview.

The Ramaswamy campaign cut the ad to 30 seconds on Monday, removing Donna Arthur’s specific claim that Acton lied about her past, including the tent story.

Arthur has spent years living a marginal existence far removed from the campaign trail.

The Daily Mail traced her to the Boalsburg area of central Pennsylvania, where she has lived in her silver Honda Civic, often with several cats.

For approximately two and a half years, beginning in late 2023, Arthur parked her vehicle in the upper parking lot of Calvary Church, a sprawling religious property set among 120 acres of rolling hills near Tussey Mountain.

Pastor Dan Nold said Arthur arrived with approximately four cats and slept in the front seat of her car, even during freezing Pennsylvania winters.

‘We really tried to help her,’ Nold told the Daily Mail, speaking alongside two church staff members inside the church.

‘We offered to let her stay inside during cold nights but she said no. We did every bit of outreach we could. We tried to locate family members. But she wasn’t interested in help.’

Nold said he had a number of conversations with Arthur and said she was ‘lucid’ but he felt she had a ‘hoarding issue’ with cats.

The situation grew increasingly difficult, Nold said, as Arthur’s un-neutered felines reproduced until there were approximately 30 animals living inside her vehicle or roaming the church grounds.

Eventually, the church asked her to go but she refused.

‘She wasn’t cooperative when we asked her to leave,’ Nold said.

‘We finally had to go down to the police and fill out forms to have them evict her. They had to come in a squad car and escort her out. It was very difficult to get her out and we felt badly about doing so but the situation with all the cats was just getting out of control.’

Arthur’s difficulties involving animals stretched back several years.

In 2021, while she was living in her car and working at Ollie’s Bargain Outlet in Boalsburg, authorities intervened after cats and newborn kittens were left inside her locked vehicle in extreme heat, according to court records.

Retired Humane Society police officer Harold Walstrom, who handled the case, told the Daily Mail that temperatures inside the vehicle approached 120 degrees when he went to Arthur’s car to rescue the cats.

‘It was a pretty bad situation,’ he recalled. ‘I’ll never forget it.’

Two kittens died, one before rescuers arrived and another afterward from heat exhaustion, Walstrom said.

‘Donna was very stubborn and very hard to deal with,’ Walstrom added.

‘She was also totally against getting her cats spayed. She wouldn’t listen to anyone.’

Arthur was convicted of animal neglect and sentenced to a fine and non-reporting probation, but the Pennsylvania Superior Court vacated the conviction in August 2023 after finding that her request for court-appointed counsel had been improperly denied.

The court sent the case back for further proceedings. The appellate ruling did not resolve the underlying allegations.

In a text exchange with the Daily Mail, Arthur lashed out at the church and animal rescue organizations.

She described Nold as a ‘thoroughly corrupted lead pastor’ and accused rescue workers of stealing her cats and falsely accusing her of crimes.

But Arthur, who is reportedly now living in her car in a state forest near Boalsburg, offered no response when the Daily Mail sent her screenshots of two separate newspaper articles documenting allegations of sexual abuse against her late husband – one involving his biological daughter Christine, the other Acton.

On Saturday, Acton appeared at a Cleveland campaign rally with former President Barack Obama. Asked afterward about Trump and Vice President JD Vance defending the advertisement, she urged them to examine the evidence.

‘I do hope they would look at the facts,’ Acton told ABC News.

The Daily Mail has reached out to both Ramaswamy and his campaign spokeswoman Connie Luck.

Back in Youngstown, Christine Arthur’s sister views the controversy through a different lens.

She recalled how Christine went on to graduate from Girard High School, worked with children with special needs in Las Vegas and later earned a bachelor’s degree. She died in Youngstown in December 2024, leaving behind a daughter and a family that remembers her warmth and humor.

For those who knew what happened decades ago, the political ad has reopened wounds that never entirely healed.

‘It was awful for our family,’ Christine’s sister said. ‘We wish we could just forget about it and now all this has come up and re-opened old wounds.’

Trump Urges New Yorkers to Vote Blakeman Against ‘Worst Governor’

0

President Donald Trump issued a final appeal to New York voters Saturday, urging them to support Republican gubernatorial nominee Bruce Blakeman on Election Day. Trump argued that the Nassau County executive could rescue the Empire State from what he described as Gov. Kathy Hochul’s “failed and incompetent” administration.

During a tele-rally backing Blakeman, attorney general candidate Saritha Komatireddy and upstate congressional contender Anthony Constantino, Trump delivered a sharp assessment of Hochul’s record.

“Kathy Hochul may be the worst governor in the history of New York State and one of the worst in the nation,” Trump said. “She’s been a disaster, and I can tell you that Bruce has been a friend of mine for a long time.”

Trump praised Blakeman’s political record and management skills, pointing to Nassau County’s public safety rankings. “Anybody that can do what he did in politics and get resounding results—and not only that, he has the safest county in the United States of America [according to US News & World Report] … He’s a great manager.”

Although recent polling has shown Hochul leading by between 11 and 14 percentage points, Trump said he remained confident that Blakeman could pull off an upset victory.

“I’ll be waiting for his call,” Trump said. “I bet he’s going to be one of the first calls if he wins, and he’ll get tremendous help from the federal government. And it’s hard to help people that do such a bad job. It’s almost like throwing good money after bad.”

Ryan Radulovack, a spokesperson for Hochul, responded by casting Trump as a central threat in the race—a strategy the governor has repeatedly used during the campaign.

“Blakeman … started with the promise to ‘bring Trump-style leadership to Albany,’ and his closing message is telling people how little he regrets going full Trump in this campaign,” Radulovack said.

Radulovack highlighted Hochul’s claims that she has returned money to New Yorkers, committed $4 billion to public safety and pushed back against Trump’s attacks, while saying Blakeman “defends everything Trump does.”

Trump also shifted the focus during the tele-rally to the conflict with Iran, declaring that the war was nearing an end.

“We’re winning very easily the war with Iran,” Trump said.

He said Iranian officials were engaging with the United States and discussing a possible resolution, while cautioning that their negotiations involved “a lot of talking.”

“But one way or the other, their Navy’s gone. Their Air Force is gone. All blown up. All at the bottom of the sea, and they’re not going to have a nuclear weapon,” Trump said. “It’s very simple, and they know that. They know that, and we can end it any time we want.”

JD Vance’s Son Alec Dresses Up as Dobby the Elf in Adorable Costume

0

Vice President JD Vance gave his home a Hogwarts makeover for Halloween, dressing as Albus Dumbledore in a playful transformation by the second-highest-ranking official in the country.

Vance and President Donald Trump both marked the holiday. At a Halloween gathering at Mar-a-Lago, however, Trump joked that he had gone as himself.

Vance shared a family photo in his Dumbledore costume, alongside his baby son Alec, who was dressed as Dobby the House Elf.

Ewan, Vance and Usha’s eldest son, took on the role of Harry Potter, while their two other children wore different Halloween costumes.

Vance also posted a video with his baby elf on social media, sending followers a Halloween greeting.

“Hey guys, Vice President Dumbledore here, with little Dobby the Elf, wishing you a Happy Halloween. Have fun, be safe, eat a lot of candy,” he said.

Meanwhile, Trump appeared delighted to be away from the campaign trail as he celebrated Halloween at Mar-a-Lago on Saturday night.

His costume, though, was a familiar one that many people have seen him wear year after year.

“I’ve spent nine hours getting ready,” Trump joked. “I had ten minutes, so I came as Donald Trump tonight! Hello everybody.”

Vance also became a viral sensation last Halloween after dressing as one of the many online versions of himself.

Since Vance won the 2024 election as Trump’s running mate, social media has filled with exaggerated and frequently AI-generated caricatures of the 41-year-old politician.

Among the best-known versions is “Fat JD,” a chubby, rosy-cheeked depiction of Vance with long, curly hair.

In a clip shared online, the vice president opened his front door and told viewers: “Happy Halloween, kids. And remember, say thank you.”

The video then showed him spinning repeatedly with an eerie smile as the theme from The Twilight Zone played.

The meme emerged after the shocking confrontation involving Vance, Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

A conservative journalist said at the time that Vance had seen the memes and found them amusing—a reaction that his Halloween antics appeared to reinforce.

Even those who disagree with Vance’s politics found his costume endearing since he appears willing to poke fun at himself.

JD, 41, and Usha, 40, share four children: Ewan, 9, Vivek, 6, Mirabel, 4, and now Alec.

Usha has said that one of the challenges was making sure that each of the other three children got personal time with their parents amid their chaotic schedules.

Vance announced Alec’s birth in July.

Alec’s birth marked a historic milestone for the executive branch – the first time in 156 years that a sitting vice president has welcomed a child in office.

‘Thank you for all the good wishes as we settle into life as a family of six,’ the Second Lady wrote in a post on social media accompanied by darling family photos.

Usha added at the time: ‘Meet Alec — and enjoy these attempts at taking a decent family photo with four kids!’

A source familiar with the family confirmed it’s been a joyful time for the family, who are looking forward to making memories together and enjoying these early days with their newest addition.

The three family photos shared by the Second Lady show the young family dressed in outfits fit for a Sunday church service, a close-up of newborn Alec in a blue onesie and the siblings adoring their new baby brother.

‘Congratulations! A perfect baby boy for the wonderful Vance family,’ President Donald Trump wrote on social media, sharing the first photo of the newborn.

That image showed Alec’s older brother Vivek holding him in the hospital as Mirabel looked on smiling.

The last time an incumbent Second Family added a newborn to their ranks was in 1870, when Schuyler Colfax, VP to Ulysses S. Grant, and his wife Ellen had a son.

Usha and JD first announced that they were expecting their fourth child in January.

Vance revealed in his memoir Communion this year that the couple had decided against more children because of the pressures of public life, until the assassination of his close friend Charlie Kirk last fall changed Usha’s mind.

‘Something changed for Usha, and not long after we buried my friend, she became pregnant with our fourth child, a boy. One life was stolen from us, but another was given,’ he wrote.

Usha has said Erika Kirk’s regret about not having more children with her murdered husband was ‘very powerful’ but not the deciding factor.

‘I think I had already started to open my mind to the possibility,’ she told CBS Sunday Morning.

Prosecutors: Pine Barrens Woman Fabricated Boyfriend Fire Claim

0

Authorities say a woman who claimed her boyfriend brutally burned her and left her for dead during a camping trip in New Jersey’s Pine Barrens fabricated the attack.

Chelsea M. Villano, 33, of Eatontown, New Jersey, now faces two counts of falsely incriminating another person, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said.

The unusual case began Oct. 15, when Plumsted Township emergency responders were dispatched to the Pine Barrens following a 911 call about a woman who had allegedly been burned and abandoned at a campsite.

Responders found Villano suffering from burns and smoke inhalation, according to Patch.com. She was intubated and flown to Temple University Burn Center in Philadelphia, where she was treated and released several days later.

Authorities were told that Villano’s injuries were more consistent with fire blowback, Assistant Ocean County Prosecutor Mara Brater said, according to Patch.com.

“Had she actually been submerged or [had fire] blown in her face intentionally, her injuries would have been much more severe,” Brater said.

Villano initially told detectives that her boyfriend, Justin D. Martin, 36, splashed her with alcohol before trying to kill her by putting her in a fire. She said they had been camping with another man and that Martin fled in a Chrysler 200, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer.

Martin was arrested Oct. 16 and charged with attempted murder and aggravated arson.

Three days later, Brater asked a Superior Court judge to release Martin, saying, “It was learned today that there are recorded statements of the victim indicating that this defendant didn’t have anything to do with the assault on her.”

The charges against Martin were dismissed on Oct. 23.

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office told The Post that Villano was released from the Ocean County Jail on Oct. 28.

The Pine Barrens are notorious for their association with organized-crime burial sites. The area also inspired the famous “Pine Barrens” episode of The Sopranos and is linked to the legend of the Jersey Devil.

Canelo Álvarez Reclaims WBC Title in Unanimous Win Over Mbilli

0

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — Canelo Alvarez reclaimed the WBC super-middleweight title Saturday night, overcoming Christian Mbilli by unanimous decision with sharp counterpunching and a commanding performance in the second half of the fight.

The judges scored the bout 115-112, 116-111 and 117-110 in Alvarez’s favor. The victory handed Mbilli the first loss of his professional career and moved Alvarez’s record to 64-3-2. Mbilli dropped to 29-1-1.

The 36-year-old Mexican was fighting for the first time since surrendering his undisputed championship to Terence Crawford in September 2025. With the win, Alvarez returned to the ranks of world champions.

The result meant more than simply adding another belt to Alvarez’s collection. After the defeat by Crawford, questions had emerged about whether his championship era was over. Mbilli’s relentless pressure offered a demanding test, but Alvarez responded with crisp combinations and increasingly accurate punches to seize control as the contest unfolded.

“Oh, it’s so difficult to explain,” Alvarez said. “It’s something unbelievable.”

Mbilli’s activity and forward pressure kept the opening six rounds competitive, especially when he backed Alvarez toward the ropes. Alvarez countered with body shots and quick responses, then began to make a bigger impact in the sixth round with a right uppercut and a straight right hand.

The tempo of the exchanges gradually shifted. Alvarez began forcing Mbilli to react, breaking up his advances with the cleaner punches. On several occasions, he dropped his hands and encouraged Mbilli to attack, creating opportunities to counter from favorable positions.

Alvarez landed a telling uppercut in the seventh round before putting together combinations in the eighth. Mbilli faced another setback when referee Hector Afu deducted a point for a punch to the back of Alvarez’s head.

Alvarez used his jab effectively to dictate the 10th round. Mbilli continued to attack the body and connected with right hands in the final round, but Alvarez closed strongly, wobbling his opponent with a late right hand.

Alvarez said trainer Eddy Reynoso’s instructions were clear: keep moving, box intelligently and stay committed to the jab.

“Do what Canelo do the best. And that’s what I did,” Alvarez said.

When asked whether Mbilli had surprised him, Alvarez said he had expected a difficult opponent but felt he successfully restricted the challenger’s offense.

After the fight, Alvarez paid an emotional tribute to Eddy Reynoso and Chepo Reynoso, crediting both men with playing a major role in shaping his career.

The tearful celebration and Alvarez’s long embrace with Eddy Reynoso revealed a side of the Mexican star rarely seen during his measured work in the ring. After 12 rounds of absorbing Mbilli’s pressure, Alvarez struggled to put the significance of becoming champion again into words. His attention soon turned from his own accomplishment to the people who helped him achieve it.

“I’m so proud, so proud of my team,” Alvarez said.

He also expressed gratitude to his family, who watched from afar, and joked that his wife had instructed him not to come home without the championship because she could not attend the fight.

“I won the title,” he said.

Alvarez did not immediately name his next opponent or commit to another fight.

“I’m gonna rest. I’m gonna keep learning. I’m gonna keep working hard,” he said.

In the co-main event, Jaime Munguia retained his WBA super-middleweight title by unanimous decision over Nikita Zon after surviving a scare in the sixth round. The judges scored the fight 117-111, 117-111 and 116-112, allowing Munguia to recover from the moment Zon hurt him and improve his record to 47-2.

Rafael Espinoza retained his WBO featherweight title with a technical knockout of Ricardo Blandon at 1:22 of the third round. A straight right opened a cut above Blandon’s left eye, and the referee stopped the fight on the ringside physician’s recommendation. Espinoza improved to 29-0 with 25 knockouts.

Reito Tsutsumi scored two second-round knockdowns before stopping Raymundo Rojas Garcia at 2:27. Tsutsumi improved to 6-0 with five knockouts.

Protests Erupt Across Europe as Demonstrators Firebomb Police

0

Petrol bombs were thrown at police and shops were targeted as violent Halloween unrest spread across Europe.

Berlin became the latest European capital to see clashes after more than 3,500 demonstrators, many in costume, took to the streets. Riot police faced flares, fireworks and glass bottles during the disorder.

In Paris, an officer was engulfed in flames after being hit by a Molotov cocktail. France’s interior minister described the attack as ‘attempted murder’.

The unrest came after weeks of student demonstrations across Europe. More than 320,000 people are reported to have taken part in marches across France, where protests over education funding have expanded into a wider movement.

In Albania, student frustration over soaring living costs and underfunded education has combined with calls for Prime Minister Edi Rama to resign. Demonstrations have grown increasingly violent, with protesters throwing paving stones, flares and petrol bombs at police.

German protesters are also concerned about conscription, fearing that the introduction of voluntary military service could eventually lead to compulsory service.

At least 56 people were arrested in Berlin after protesters occupied tram tracks, blocked roads and continued marching into the evening. Police deployed water cannons and pepper spray, while 27 officers were injured.

Youth protest group Gen-Z Regelt! – meaning Gen-Z has got this – had called demonstrations in 34 German cities on Saturday.

An afternoon gathering near Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate remained largely peaceful.

Violence broke out during a separate evening march involving other groups, including large numbers of pro-Palestinian demonstrators, who gathered under the banner ‘Gen-Z has had enough!’

The Daily Mail witnessed one young man being brought down by around ten police officers and dragged away, leaving blood on the doorstep of a shop.

Several other people were arrested, including at least one journalist covering the demonstration.

Demonstrators carried signs reading ‘Time for resistance’ and ‘Merz must go’, referring to Germany’s Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

Chants of ‘free Palestine’ were heard alongside calls for ‘anti-fascism’, as the far-Right Alternative for Germany (AfD) continues to gain ground. The party has enjoyed growing support in eastern Germany and won a recent state election in Saxony-Anhalt.

A biology teacher brought a deck chair to Rosenthalerplatz, where the Berlin march began.

He was quickly struck by an egg but did not leave. He told the Mail that he had come to better understand the concerns of his 18-year-old students.

On the scenes of looting at French protests earlier this month, he added: ‘Nobody needs so much luxury, but also, nobody has the right to destroy such stores.

‘I don’t think it’s good what happened there, some people just like the violence.’

By 7.30pm, officers said that all those who refused to go home would face water cannons and arrest. The crowds, meanwhile, chanted ‘shame on you’ and ‘all police are b*******’.

The protesters eventually trickled away, but officers remained on high alert on every street corner in the area.

In Germany, student protests were followed by clashes in several cities, with police deploying water cannons in Frankfurt after officers were pelted with stones and firecrackers.

At least one officer was injured during the unrest in the city, according to the local force.

Police later arrested one person and seized two weapons after the windows of a gun shop in central Frankfurt were smashed.

Officers secured the remaining weapons inside the premises.

As the violence continued into the evening, the force urged anyone not taking part in the protests to stay away from the city centre, warning that Molotov cocktails were being thrown at emergency personnel.

There were also reports of disorder in Cologne, where around 50 people were reportedly arrested following a demonstration in the city centre.

German broadcaster RTL reported that groups wearing dark clothing had been kicking walls, shouting and throwing pyrotechnics.

Water cannons were also used in Cologne and Hamburg, while officers in Leipzig deployed pepper spray. An officer in Bonn suffered minor injuries.

In Bremen, police said a march that began peacefully descended into disorder when some participants set off pyrotechnics and insulted officers.

Demonstrations were also held in Munich.

Gen-Z Regelt! said some 120,000 people took part in demonstrations across Germany. Police said the main protests themselves had been ‘very peaceful’.

Andreas Rosskopf, an official from the police union, told the Rheinische Post that officers had intervened ‘very decisively and also forcefully’ where violence did break out, adding that property damage had largely been avoided by the evening.

Gen-Z Regelt! said it explicitly rejected violence in Germany. ‘Extremist groups, anti-constitutional symbols, racism and hate speech have no place with us – no matter from which side,’ it wrote online.

In Albania, footage from the capital Tirana showed demonstrators throwing petrol bombs and paving stones at police.

Protests over insufficient education funding have become part of a wider movement demanding Rama’s resignation, with demonstrations repeatedly descending into violence.

Meanwhile, French police arrested five people accused of attempting to loot a Foot Locker store in Marseille.

Police in the Bouches-du-Rhone prefecture said the suspects were caught trying to break into the shop’s storerooms.

France’s interior minister, Laurent Nuñez, said around 150 demonstrations had passed peacefully on Saturday, but police had faced an ‘extraordinary’ level of violence from some rioters.

Describing the Molotov cocktail attack on the Paris officer as an ‘attempted murder’, he warned that the night was not yet over.

‘We are fully prepared for those looking for confrontation,’ he said.

The French unrest began with demonstrations by high school students demanding the equivalent of around £9billion for the education system, before expanding to draw in groups ranging from trade unions to Black Bloc anarchists.

Demonstrations have also spread to countries including Italy, Portugal and Poland.

North Korea Stole $6.3 Billion From Binance, FBI Says

0

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has linked North Korea to what it described as the “biggest hack in history” after cryptocurrency giant Binance suffered an estimated $6.3 billion loss, triggering an overnight crisis among the company’s executives.

A joint investigation by the FBI, the United States Secret Service and the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation division identified the malicious North Korean cyber operation as “TraderTraitor,” an elite hacking group.

Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange by daily trading volume, said on Thursday that investigators had found “additional points of breach.” The discovery contradicted early indications that the attack stemmed from a single compromised laptop.

The company later estimated the total impact at “around $6.3 billion,” placing the incident among the most serious cybersecurity breaches ever recorded.

TraderTraitor is believed to be linked to the Lazarus Group, which drew international attention in 2014 after being accused of hacking Sony Pictures in retaliation for The Interview, a film that mocked North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

The breach unfolded in real time on Thursday evening, as billions of dollars flowed out of accounts and cryptocurrency executives scrambled to respond.

Insiders described the chaotic aftermath to the New York Times, recounting late-night conference calls involving executives around the world, analysts working through the night in a glamorous New York conference room and founders posting urgent updates on X.

Despite the FBI’s statement, President Donald Trump appeared to question whether North Korea was behind the attack.

Asked about the findings by a reporter at Mar-a-Lago on Friday night, Trump said his administration was still “learning about” what had happened.

Trump said he was “not concerned,” adding: “We don’t know if it’s North Korea — but if it is, we’ll talk to North Korea about it.”

Soon after the breach, Changpeng Zhao posted a series of urgent messages on X, telling followers: “It hurts, but we will survive.”

Employees at cryptocurrency analytics firm Chainalysis gathered in a New York conference room known as the “Silk Road” and worked through the night to examine the attack.

Chainalysis said the attackers had used “laundering patterns we have not seen before.” The firm attributed the breach to TraderTraitor before the FBI publicly confirmed the finding.

Chainalysis CEO Jonathan Levin was on a video call with a senior US official about cyberattacks targeting American adversaries when he learned of the Binance breach, he told The Times.

At the same time, Binance executives joined a large conference call. He Yi, the company’s co-chief executive, participated at 3am local time from Abu Dhabi, despite being seven months pregnant.

Zhao continued updating followers during the crisis and rebuked Elon Musk after Musk posted a grimacing emoji in response to a message mocking him. “Bad time to troll. Please stop,” Zhao wrote.

Binance co-CEO Richard Teng said in a video message on Friday that the company was “working nonstop” and remained “committed to covering all hack losses.” He also assured traders that their “assets were safe.”

‘This was a complex attack,’ Teng said. He explained that the attacker used a self-destruct mechanism that made it difficult to trace.

Teng continued that the company would conduct a full security review in the wake of the attack.

TraderTraitor is no novice when it comes to elite multi-billion-dollar hacks. They became infamous in 2014 after the Lazarus Group, which the FBI believes employs the same hackers as TraderTraitor, leaked internal data at Sony Pictures.

Officials said the hack was motivated by Sony’s release of The Interview, a comedy that spoofed the assassination of Kim Jong Un, who called the film ‘an act of terrorism.’

Two years later, North Korean hackers initiated a plot to steal $1 billion from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

The scheme was thwarted when bankers realized the hackers misspelled ‘foundation’ as fandation.’

In 2022, US officials once again accused the Lazarus group of stealing $620 in cryptocurrency from the video game Axie Infinity.

Then in 2025, TraderTraitor pulled off the biggest-ever cyber-attack of its kind to date: $1.5billion taken in February last year from the Bybit platform.

They pulled it off by tricking chief executive Ben Zhao into authorizing a seemingly routine transaction that gave them access to the software.

Binance also has a checkered history with the law. Zhao pleaded guilty to a felony related to his failure to prevent money laundering on the platform and stepped down as CEO in 2023. President Donald Trump pardoned him in 2025.

He was released from prison in 2024 after being sentenced for violating the Bank Secrecy Act.

Zhao was the first person ever sentenced to prison time for violations of that law, which requires US financial institutions to know who their customers are, to monitor transactions and to file reports of suspicious activity.

Prosecutors said no one had ever violated the regulations to the extent Zhao did. Mr Zhao and Binance have been key supporters of some of the Trump family´s crypto enterprises.

The Daily Mail has reached out to the White House and the FBI for additional comment.
