Esteemed Educator and Taylor Swift’s Favorite Teacher Passes Away on Her Wedding Day

0

On the day Taylor Swift tied the knot with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, she faced the heartbreaking loss of her favorite teacher, who had also worked as her security guard.

Kirk Schwabe, aged 69, succumbed to renal cancer on July 3, coinciding with Swift’s private wedding ceremony held at New York City’s Madison Square Garden, according to a report by The Telegraph.

Before his tenure as her security guard, Schwabe served as a Chicago police officer. He later taught criminal justice at Henderson High School in Nashville, Tennessee, where he inspired Swift between 2004 and 2006.

As Swift’s career began to soar in 2009, Schwabe left his teaching role to become her bodyguard, following a request from her family.

In a touching tribute, Swift referenced Schwabe by naming her character’s teacher Mr. Schwabe during her cameo in Garry Marshall’s romantic comedy “Valentine’s Day.”

In an interview ahead of the nuptials, Schwabe recounted to The Telegraph how he once told a young Swift: ‘You’re a superstar. This is not fun and games no more. You are it.’

‘Everything keeps going up and up and up, and the sky’s the limit for you.’

But he described watching Swift’s rise to fame as a ‘panic.’

His wife, Jane, said he treated Swift ‘like he did his daughters’

‘If anything happens, I’m the guy,’ he noted. ‘We got four or 500 people in here and I got extra security guards, but I don’t know a lot of those guys who got hired, I don’t know what their qualifications are.’

Schwabe ultimately decided to leave the job after a few years, saying he was burnt out but still loved the singer.

In the years since, his family said he remained immensely proud of everything Swift accomplished and that he was happy for her and Kelce.

His wife, Jane, said he treated Swift ‘like he did his daughters.’

Sarah, one of his daughters, added: ‘My dad had a remarkable way of making people feel seen, valued and protected.

‘Whether you were family, one of his students or someone like Taylor whose path crossed his, he cared deeply about people,’ she said. ‘That’s the legacy he leaves behind.’

Schwabe also told The Telegraph in his final interview that he was confident his former student chose a good husband.

‘I do trust Taylor’s judgment,’ he said. ‘She knows what’s best.’

Swift and Kelce tied the knot in front of 1,000 of their closest friends – including some of the world’s biggest stars – in a colossal blowout at the historic arena in New York City on Friday.

At exactly 7.30pm, the couple shared the news in blockbuster style, lighting up the iconic music venue with video ads which read ‘JUST&T MARRIED!’, a romantic nod to their shared initials.

And now, some of the A-list guests have offered a first glimpse into how the couple overhauled the space into their own fairytale wedding.

Taking to Instagram on Saturday morning, personal trainer Rob Jordan’s wife, Joann Jordan, shared photos of her and her husband taken on the day of the wedding.

One of the snaps showed the couple walking up the large staircase to the party, which was covered in a gorgeous, peach-colored velvet carpet.

Surrounding the stairs were light and dark pink curtains, making the space private and magical.

‘An unforgettable evening in New York celebrating the beginning of a beautiful new chapter for our dear friends, Travis and Taylor. Love was in the air, the city was magical and every detail was simply unforgettable,’ Joann Jordan wrote in the caption.

AMC CEO Adam Aron also shared how MSG was completely transformed into a ‘secret garden’ for the couple.

In a now-deleted post on X, Aron shared every detail of the night, including the fact that Kelce wore a white tuxedo, while Swift was in a ‘stunning white wedding dress.’

‘It did not look like Madison Square Garden. Immediately upon entry, everything… floors, walls, ceilings… was draped in peach and white,’ Aron wrote, in part.

‘Large blown up pictures of Taylor and Travis at each age, year by year from one year-old to late teenager-hood, were on display,’ his messaged continued.

‘A small portion of MSG was cordoned off, devoid of any notion that that a basketball or hockey game ever shared that space. Somehow magically, someone created an outdoor garden at a lush countryside retreat.’

‘Everything draped off this time in green and white. Real flowers and I think artificial trees welcomed fifteen rows of maybe 75 or so chairs. They say there were around one thousand attendees, but surprisingly, it all felt intimate and small. Everything was close.’

The CEO described the exchange of their vows as ’emotional’ and ‘charming.’

‘Long, entertaining, personal, charming, emotional, irreverent and endearing explorations by each as to how they met, why they want to be with each other for all eternity, the promises they made in joining their much-beloved two whole families (Kelce’s and Swift’s) as one, and committing to their new mutual life together,’ he wrote.

He emphasized that Swift and Kelce had clearly found their ‘soulmate’ in each other, and guests had witnessed ‘real’ and true ‘pure joy.’

Both the bride and groom were dressed in Christian Dior, Swift’s publicist announced after they said their ‘I dos.’

There were no bridesmaids. Instead, Taylor’s brother, Austin Swift, acted as her ‘man of honor’, and Travis’s brother, Jason Kelce, was the best man.

Jason’s daughters were the flower girls, tossing petals at Taylor’s feet as she made her way down the aisle with a string quartet playing one of her own songs.

George Stephanopoulos, Robin Roberts and Michael Strahan spilled some more details about the biggest wedding of the year on Good Morning America on Saturday morning.

‘It was really this garden inside The Garden,’ Stephanopoulos said. ‘It was just so beautiful.’

‘We can confirm that Stevie Nicks performed,’ his cohost Robin Roberts followed up.

Roberts and Stephanopoulos both agreed that despite the large guest list, the ceremony was ‘intimate.’

‘It’s hard to imagine that a place that big, and a wedding with such stars, could feel so personal and so intimate,’ Stephanopoulos said.

The guest list included a dazzling array of the world’s biggest stars.

Selena Gomez, Gigi Hadid, Lena Dunham and Dakota Johnson were among the bride’s closest friends there.

Steven Spielberg was also in attendance, and Beyonce and Jay Z are also understood to have attended.

There was also Brad Pitt, Ed Sheeran, Dua Lipa, Hugh Grant, Graham Norton, Jessica Alba, Tom Brady, Chris Rock and almost every NFL player imaginable.

The guest list also included Zoe Kravitz, Graham Norton, Ethan Hawke, Nelly, Andrew Scott, Ice Spice, Kareem Hunt and Laura Dern.

Eagle-eyed fans clocked some surprise guests and notable absences.

Karlie Kloss, once known as one of Swift’s closest friends, attended with her husband Joshua Kushner.

Swift did not attend Kloss’s 2019 wedding after the pair had a rumored feud over the model’s close bond with the singer’s nemesis Scooter Braun.

Her inclusion on the guest list appeared to signal the pair had patched up their relationship.

However, there was no sign of Swift’s longtime pal Blake Lively, with whom the pop star had a purported falling out over her inclusion in the movie star’s legal battle with Justin Baldoni.

Top 5 Western TV Shows That Outshine Dutton Ranch

“Dutton Ranch” has captured the hearts of fans on Paramount+, with beloved characters Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) making the leap from rustic Montana to the dynamic landscape of Texas. As the first season nears its conclusion with another one already greenlit, die-hard fans might be in search of fresh viewing material to tide them over. Fortunately, we’ve curated a list of stellar shows to fill that void.

The western genre, especially its neo-Western subset, offers a wealth of captivating narratives to explore. For those seeking something as contemporary as “Dutton Ranch” but with potentially richer storytelling, five standout series merit attention. From other creations by Taylor Sheridan to “Weird West” stories and classic cowboy dramas, these selections are sure to banish the post-Dutton blues.

Notably absent are other series from the Yellowstone franchise, so don’t expect appearances by familiar characters. Our focus remains predominantly on neo-Westerns—modern tales that resonate with “Dutton Ranch” both in style and storytelling depth. However, these selections might take some detours into the classic Wild West. So, tighten your saddle straps as we showcase Western series that deserve a spot on your watchlist.

The Madison

“The Madison,” while not fitting the mold of a classic or even neo-Western, still piques interest. This Taylor Sheridan creation diverts from cowboy-centric narratives, offering instead a poignant exploration of grief. The plot follows Stacy Clyburn (Michelle Pfeiffer), a liberal New Yorker, as she journeys to Montana to lay her husband Preston (Kurt Russell) to rest following his sudden demise in a plane crash among the Rockies.

Casting aside typical Western elements like high-stakes cattle drives or outlaw encounters, “The Madison” delivers a reflective exploration of love and mourning framed by Montana’s vast landscapes. The collision between the urban Clyburn family and the simpler, conservative way of life in rural Montana presents a profound shift from Sheridan’s norm. Enhanced by remarkable performances from Pfeiffer and Russell, this might just be Sheridan’s most emotionally resonant story yet.

Originally announced as a “Yellowstone” sequel/spin-off, “The Madison” is firmly its own thing. It may be set in the far reaches of Madison County, over an hour from Bozeman, but the story of the Clyburn family as they wrestle with their new normal is quietly profound. It’s not your usual shoot-’em-up neo-Western fare, but it’s no doubt Sheridan at his most refined.

Joe Pickett

For something just as family-oriented but far more traditional in its connection to the classic Western genre, “Joe Pickett” is probably the show for you. Initially a Spectrum original, the neo-Western mystery series moved to Paramount+ for its second (and sadly final) season. Based on the celebrated novels by author C.J. Box, “Joe Pickett” follows the titular Wyoming game warden (Michael Dorman) as he stumbles upon each new season-long mystery that threatens to turn his world upside down.

The first season is a stellar adaptation of Box’s first Pickett novel, “Open Season,” with elements of “Winterkill” peppered in, while the second deviates a bit from the source material by combining elements from several books together. But don’t let that stop you from jumping right in. Joe’s adventures are chock-full of Western traditions, as our hero seeks to protect his family (and the wild) from those who would encroach on all they hold dear — just not in the uber-violent Dutton family way.

Although the popularity of “Yellowstone” sparked the wildfire that got “Joe Pickett” greenlit in the first place, the budding genre resurgence wasn’t enough to keep the series around for too long. Sadly, this Paramount+ drama is one of those Western TV shows canceled far too soon. Still, “Joe Pickett” is a thrilling piece of crime television that deserves high praise for the way it balances family and mystery — and thankfully, Box still puts out a new book every year for those hoping for more.

The Son

Heading back to the Lone Star State, “The Son” is the only show on this list that could genuinely be considered a Western as much as it is a neo-Western. While the typical “Western genre” period ranges from around the time of the American Civil War to the late 1890s, this AMC drama covers not just one, but several time periods: the 1850s, 1915, and even the 1980s. In exploring these different eras of the American West, “The Son” deals with issues of legacy in ways that “Yellowstone” never quite could.

Based on the novel of the same name by Philipp Meyer, who developed the series alongside Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy, the two-season drama follows the story of Eli McCullough (played by Jacob Lofland as a young man and later by Pierce Brosnan), from his abduction by a local Comanche tribe and coming-of-age to his later years as a cattle baron and oilman. Not only do we get to follow his story, but Season 2 even flashes forward to his granddaughter in her old age, who continues the family legacy well into the ’80s.

“The Son” premiered a year before “Yellowstone” and ended after 20 stellar episodes that tell the complete story of the McCullough family. Those looking for something reminiscent of the family drama and Texas aesthetics of “Dutton Ranch” will no doubt enjoy this thematic companion piece. Brosnan, in particular, is frighteningly good as the battle-worn McCullough patriarch.

Outer Range

Another neo-Western that blends in more classical interpretations of the Western genre, “Outer Range” is also the most “out there” of all the shows on this list. A “Weird Western” to its core, this Prime Video series follows Wyoming rancher Royal Abbott (Josh Brolin) who stumbles upon a black hole that’s sprouted in the west pasture of his family’s land. But there’s more to this oddity than meets the eye, as it doubles as a portal through time — one that has a mind of its own.

“Outer Range” is probably the most psychedelic neo-Western on television or streaming. The show gets incredibly bizarre, yet despite that, you’ll find yourself glued to the screen from the beginning to the end. This strange sci-fi Western is a blast, and Brolin and co-star Lili Taylor (who plays Royal’s wife Cecilia) steal the show as they struggle to keep their family together while their lives are threatened by the mysterious Autumn (Imogen Poots) and the threats of the neighboring Tillerson family.

Admittedly, “Outer Range” ends on a pretty massive cliffhanger as Prime Video axed the series before it had the chance to properly wrap up — but don’t let that dissuade you. The show is a thrilling revision of the genre that goes so far as to mash its past and present together into something quite unprecedented. Despite the lack of definitive answers, the questions will keep you watching.

Longmire

Based on the popular neo-Western mystery novels by Craig Johnson, “Longmire” follows the eponymous character as he patrols the fictional Absaroka County, Wyoming. A modern-day lawman with traditional values, Sheriff Walt Longmire (Robert Taylor) represents “honesty and integrity” as he deals with threats from all sides. From local outlaws and reservation politics to East Coast gangs and corrupt real estate magnates, Walt struggles to do what’s right in a world that runs increasingly wrong.

With a strong supporting cast and excellent writing, “Longmire” is one of those Western-style procedurals that hits the nail on the head with just about every new development — it was also a trailblazer for Native American representation in modern television. The show was quite popular in its day, quickly becoming A&E’s highest-rated original drama before the network canceled the show after its third season. However, fans everywhere rejoiced when Netflix picked the show up, producing three more seasons for its streaming platform.

It may take a rewatch or two for you to notice all the small details on “Longmire,” but there’s no reason why you shouldn’t give it a shot. With 63 episodes, this neo-Western drama is one you’ll find yourself revisiting again and again. It’s a bit more straight-laced than “Dutton Ranch” or anything in the Yellowstone universe, but it also predated it by several years.

A$AP Rocky Creates Memorable Father-Son Moment with Son Riot at Los Angeles Concert

A$AP Rocky shared an endearing moment with his son during a memorable night on his “Don’t Be Dumb” tour.

On June 27, as the iconic rapper took to the stage at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles, his attention was drawn to a very special member of the audience—his toddler, Riot. Amidst the energetic performance, Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, paused to connect with his son from afar.

“Riot Rose,” he called out, the warmth evident in his voice through videos circulating on social media. “Hey, son. Daddy loves you, son.”

The touching scene continued as Riot, donning a denim jacket and outfitted with noise-canceling headphones to protect his young ears, acknowledged his father’s words. With a bit of gentle coaxing from his mother, Rihanna, the toddler waved back to his dad.

After the concert concluded, a heartwarming reunion took place backstage. Riot, perched happily on his father’s shoulders, was photographed delightfully experiencing the post-show atmosphere. Another sweet interaction was captured in a video, showing Riot exchanging a friendly fist bump with radio personality Big Boy.

Rocky has been open about how much fatherhood has changed his life. During a previous interview with Vogue, the rapper admitted becoming a dad shifted his priorities. He shares three children with Rihanna: sons RZA, 4, and Riot, as well as daughter Rocki, 9 months.

“I could justify doing things, like not going to the club or just leaving after five minutes, and s–t like that,” he said. “Doing old people s–t just for the sake of it.”

He jokingly added, “I act tired and I don’t even be tired.”

Fatherhood has also influenced his fashion choices.

“I think becoming a father helped me just get my dad swag bag,” Rocky continued. “I’m really on that. That’s what I do. I’m on that dad swag. I love it.”

More recently, Rocky also reflected on welcoming a daughter into the family.

“Being a girl dad at this point kinda makes you more vulnerable,” he previously told E! News. “And I’m ready for that stage in my life. It makes you way more agile and precious with everything.”

Devastating Heat Wave in New Jersey: 19 Suspected Heat-Related Deaths Confirmed by Officials

0

Officials have reported at least 19 suspected deaths linked to the intense heat sweeping across New Jersey, as temperatures continue to climb during the Fourth of July holiday period.

“We observed what we suspect are heat-related fatalities starting as early as Thursday,” remarked Dr. Raynard Washington, the Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Health, during a press briefing on Saturday. He noted that many of these individuals were found in homes lacking air conditioning.

A historic heat wave has engulfed the metropolitan area as the Fourth of July approaches, pushing temperatures in both New York City and New Jersey to unprecedented levels.

On Thursday, Central Park recorded a scorching 100 degrees, making it the hottest day since 1966 and marking the park’s first triple-digit temperature since 2012. Just last year, the park hit 99 degrees around the same period.

With oppressive humidity and extreme heat, New Yorkers were desperately searching for relief, as real-feel temperatures soared to a staggering 110 degrees.

Big Apple subways have felt like an inferno with temperatures hitting the mid-to-high 90s in multiple subway lines, with real feels breaking 100 degrees and climbing.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani has urged New Yorkers to keep their thermostats cranked up to a blistering 78 degrees amid the heatwave.

“New York: it’s hot out there, and the power grid is working overtime to keep us cool, set your AC to 78 degrees, turn off lights/electronics you’re not using, and unplug what you can,” Hizzoner wrote in a post on X.

New York City health officials said there were no confirmed heat-related deaths so far during the current heat wave.

“Tragically, we lose about 500 New Yorkers due to heat-related illness annually. That is why the Mamdani Administration is taking a whole-of-government response to extreme heat,” a city hall spokesperson said in a statement.

Even flash thunderstorms weren’t able to break the heat’s grip on the city.

Heat-fueled thunderstorms with winds of 60 mph punished the metro area and left thousands without power Friday.

Trees were downed onto cars in powerlines in Morris and Monmouth Counties in New Jersey, leaving some beleaguered residents trapped.

Over 10,000 New Yorkers lost power in Queens as a result of the storms.

But despite the cool air brought in from the tempests, the city still neared 100 degrees Saturday ahead of the big fireworks display.

Vicki Gunvalson Commits to ‘RHOC’ Full-Time, Honoring Her ‘All In or All Out’ Pledge

Now back on her own terms, Vicki is poised to make her triumphant return as the reigning Queen Bee of Orange County. Her journey has been anything but ordinary, and fans are eagerly anticipating how she will shape the dynamics of the show in its upcoming season.

After more than a decade of drama, laughter, and everything in between, Vicki Gunvalson is re-entering the spotlight of The Real Housewives of Orange County with renewed zeal. Having exited the show in 2020 following a demotion to a “Friend” role, the original Housewife has decided it’s time to reclaim her status, six years after leaving the world of Bravo cameras behind. Upon her departure, Vicki noted that this decision came after she was reduced to a less prominent position in the series that sparked the Real Housewives universe.

Vicki Gunvalson ‘cried’ when Andy Cohen invited her to return to ‘The Real Housewives of Orange County’

The turning point came last November, during a much-anticipated BravoCon event. As Vicki took the stage to present the Wifetime Achievement Award at The Bravos, she was met with a surprise that would soon make headlines.

Amidst an air of excitement, Andy Cohen extended a formal invitation to Vicki, proposing that she reclaim her title as a full-time cast member for the monumental 20th season of RHOC. Asking, “Vicki, would you join us as a Housewife for Season 20?” he re-opened the door to the franchise Vicki helped build.

“Yes!” an emotional Vicki replied.

On an episode of her My Friend, My Soulmate, My Podcast podcast series, Vicki said she “cried” after Andy presented her with her orange.

“I was shaking because I didn’t know if it was real,” she said. “…Everything was kind of like a blur.”

“When [Andy] said, ‘We’d like to offer you season 20…’ Of course, I’m gonna say yes,” she continued. “I kind of lost my world. It just kind of got interesting, euphoric. It was an out-of-body experience.”

Vicki had made it clear over the years that she wanted to return to RHOC, but only if she could be a full-time Housewife.

“First of all, when they told me I was going to have a reduced role, I said, ‘I’m never a Friend. I started this franchise. I’m never going to be a Friend,’” she told ET in 2020. “They said, ‘We’ll never use those words.’ And they’ve been using those words,” Gunvalson said. “I will never come back part time. I’m either all in or all out. I’m not a part time girl.”

Vicki promises that she won’t let fans of ‘RHOC’ down

While Vicki has been away for RHOC for years, she’s said she’s more than prepared to jump back in and deliver the drama that fans want.

“I have a sense of responsibility to bring a really good show,” she said on her podcast. “I’m not gonna let you down. I’m really excited.”

A trailer for season 20 of RHOC hints at what’s in store for Vicki in the new episodes. The veteran Housewife clashes with new cast member Carmella Garcia, a real estate agent, former Playboy Playmate, and WWE wrestler, at one point dubbing her “Carmella DeVille.”

“I don’t like new girls,” Vicki adds in another scene.

The two women also get into it during a group dinner.

“But you’re new too this year,” Carmella says.

“I started this franchise,” Vicki fires back.

“Everything has an expiration,” Carmella replies.

The Real Housewives of Orange County Season 20 premieres July 9 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Bravo. Episodes stream the next day on Peacock.

Nearly 100 Monkeys Escape Enclosure, Invade Suburban Neighborhoods in Dramatic Recapture Mission

0

In a surprising turn of events, nearly 100 monkeys managed to escape from a government-operated enclosure in central Thailand, causing a stir in local neighborhoods. As a result, authorities initiated an extensive operation to recapture the primates.

Authorities reported that the monkeys breached a section of the enclosure at the Lopburi Municipality Animal Nursery.

These monkeys had been under the care of local officials after being relocated from Thailand’s Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation. Fortunately, staff managed to prevent over 1,000 other monkeys housed at the facility from escaping.

In response to the breakout, provincial leaders, wildlife officials, and municipal team members scoured local residential areas on Tuesday.

Authorities used food-baited cages to lure some of the escaped monkeys back into custody. Other monkeys, including some of the larger and more dominant macaques, had to be subdued with tranquilizer darts before they could be captured.

Crews repaired the damaged enclosure while officials continued efforts to recapture the escaped monkeys.

Lopburi Gov. Weeraphong Ritrod said the damaged enclosure had been repaired and reinforced to help prevent additional escapes.

He said officials also plan to build a more secure, double-layer enclosure designed to keep dominant monkeys from breaking out in the future.

The governor said the province is also preparing to establish a foundation to help support food costs and improve the monkeys’ welfare.

Mayor Chamroen Salacheep said the monkeys may have escaped because of hunger, extreme heat, overcrowding or their natural instinct to roam.

He also apologized to residents affected by the incident and encouraged anyone whose property was damaged to report it so authorities could assess the damage and determine what assistance may be available.

Lopburi has long been known for its large population of free-roaming macaques.

The monkeys have also caused problems for residents and businesses because of property damage and aggressive behavior. Authorities have worked in recent years to reduce the monkey population through sterilization programs and by relocating some animals to dedicated enclosures.

News Media reached out to the Lopburi Municipality and Thailand’s Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation for comment but did not immediately receive a response.

Trader Joe’s Enthusiasts Disheartened by Recent Product Disappointment

0

Trader Joe’s has built its reputation on offering trendy, exclusive items that range from mini pastel tote bags to the ever-popular everything bagel seasoning blend.

Recently, one of their popular items, the ‘Uncured Ham & Swiss Pockets’—delicious croissant pastries filled with uncured ham and cheese—earned praise for their flaky texture and convenient on-the-go packaging.

However, this product hasn’t won over all of its consumers.

In a recent discussion on Reddit, a shopper expressed disappointment, questioning if they received a particularly skimpy version of the pastry.

“Did anyone else notice the ham is just one slice with a tiny bit of cheese?” the customer asked. “The croissant was tasty, but with so little ham, it’s hard to justify.”

The disappointed customer joked that Trader Joe’s should have called it a ‘Croissant, Cheese and Ham Pocket’ instead because of the disappointing pastry-to-filling ratio.

Trader Joe’s description of their ‘handy pockets’ claims the frozen item makes ‘a wonderfully hearty breakfast, at home or on the go, and they also work quite well as a brunch option, alongside a spread of your favorite eggs and fruit.’

Each box comes with two individually wrapped pockets for $4.99 and must be kept in the freezer.

More social media users chimed in, dubbing the new breakfast option at Trader Joe’s ‘underwhelming,’ especially compared to other options.

‘I love ham and cheese and was so underwhelmed,’ one Reddit user confirmed. ‘It’s just so bland somehow.’

‘I think this has been my biggest letdown item so far this year,’ another agreed. ‘It could have changed people’s lives.’

Others said their biggest complaint wasn’t the amount of filling at all, but getting the cooking instructions just right.

‘I find that when I air fry them if do it long enough for the ham and cheese to be warm, the croissant is so overcooked and dry,’ another Reddit user added. ‘But when the outside is perfect the inside is cold. I can’t find a good balance.’

Some were quick to defend the Trader Joe’s item, with one sharing that it’s a ‘pretty standard amount’ of meat and cheese in each pastry.

‘I wanted to get more for my money so I tried the ones at Costco – now that’s a let down,’ one Reddit user added. ‘Literally had to throw them away. Once you get cooking the Trader Joe’s ones the right away they are amazing.’

It’s unclear how long the ham and cheese pockets will stick around the grocery store, as the grocery chain is known for switching out products based on the season.

Unveiling a Lost Treasure: Rare Declaration of Independence Copy Discovered Abroad After 250 Years

A remarkably rare version of the Declaration of Independence has been uncovered among Revolutionary War-era letters in London.

For over a decade, Michael Scurr has dedicated his Thursday mornings as a volunteer at Britain’s National Archives, meticulously organizing documents to aid future scholars.

Last May, during one of his routine tasks, the former insurance executive stumbled upon a significant find nestled within the correspondence of an 18th-century Royal Navy captain.

Attached to a report detailing the capture of the American privateer Dalton on Christmas Eve 1776, he found a document vaguely marked as ‘another paper.’

Upon gingerly unfolding the sheet, Scurr paused as he noticed the word Declaration prominently displayed at the top.

‘I thought: “Oh, right, okay, this is definitely a Declaration of Independence,”‘ he told The Associated Press. ‘How exciting is this.’

He told the BBC that he felt butterflies in his stomach when he discovered the historic document.

Researchers at the National Archives have since identified the document as a rare early copy of America’s founding document, printed just days after the original was signed on July 4, 1776, to spread the news that 13 rebellious North American colonies had severed ties with Britain.

It is one of just 11 original copies of the so-called Exeter printing of the Declaration that are known to exist, and the only one identified outside the United States, the National Archives said on Thursday, when it unveiled the document.

The National Archives unveiled the find ahead of today’s 250th anniversary of American independence.

This version was printed in Exeter, New Hampshire, by John Dunlap between July 16 to 19, 1776. One way to tell is that Founding Father Charles Thomson’s name is misspelled, The New York Times reported.

But it isn’t just the age of the document that makes it important; it is also the fact that it was captured from a ship under the direction of the recently formed Continental Congress, with orders signed by its president, John Hancock, said Amanda Bevan, head of the National Archives’ project to catalog the correspondence of Royal Navy captains during the American Revolution.

While the public has heard about the dreadful conditions faced by the Continental Army at places like Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, little attention has been given to the Americans who went to sea to disrupt British trade and battle the mighty Royal Navy, Bevan said.

Finding a copy of the Declaration of Independence on board the ship also suggests how it might have been used, Bevan said. She believes the Dalton’s captain would have read out his orders, as was customary, and also the declaration itself.

‘They know why they’re fighting, but this puts it in a language which makes it greater than them,’ Bevan said. ‘They’re not fighting because they’re aggrieved in particular. They’re fighting for an ideal.

‘And I think that just to find the Declaration in a theater of war where people are committing themselves to fight for their country on the wide ocean is really something special.’

As a privateer, the 18-gun Dalton was a privately owned vessel that fought under the auspices of the Continental Congress to supplement the tiny navy of the new nation.

Captain Thomas Fitzherbert, commander of the 64-gun HMS Raisonnable, chased the Dalton for seven hours on Christmas Eve 1776 before capturing her off the coast of Portugal.

The Dalton’s 120-man crew was imprisoned in Plymouth, England, under harsh conditions.

Charles Hebert, who was just 19 when he was captured, described hunger, illness and repeated punishment in the journals he kept during more than two years of captivity before his release in a prisoner exchange.

Despite it all, many survived.

The letter containing the copy of the Declaration of Independence should have gone to a wartime court, The Times reported, but Fitzherbert, instead, sent it to the Admiralty, which oversaw the country’s navy.

He described it as ‘another document.’ Some researchers believe Fitzherbert knew the significance of the document, which is why he sent it to the Admiralty.

Historians in the United States are also excited about the National Archives’ discovery.

This copy of the Declaration of Independence provides a direct link to the Dalton’s captain, who carried news of American independence to the world, said Matthew Skic, director of collections and exhibitions at the Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia.

‘It’s not just a document, it’s an artifact,’ he said. ‘It’s a tangible connection to the past, because holding that piece of paper in the archivist’s hand today is a way to transport us back to 1776. The baton being passed, in a way.’

The document did suffer a tear that historians had to repair after Scurr discovered it, The Times reported.

It is believed 200 Dunlap-printed copies were produced, but only 26 are known to have survived, the outlet said.

Only 10 copies of those printed in Exeter are thought to have survived. One sold for $5.6 million in January.

The discovery is also proof that there’s still more for historians to uncover, Skic said.

‘Even though 250 years has gone by, we still do not know everything about the American Revolution, and there are still finds left to be discovered.’
