Tragic Incident: Young Boy Arrested in California College Town for Infant’s Death

0

In a picturesque Southern California college town, known for its affluence, parents are demanding explanations as a 17-year-old autistic boy faces murder charges. The heart-wrenching incident involves the tragic death of a four-month-old baby girl who was allegedly thrown to the ground in a daycare setting within a residential home.

Accused of this shocking act, the teenage suspect, whose identity is protected due to his juvenile status, was arraigned on Thursday. Currently, he remains held at Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall as the investigation continues surrounding the death of little Troy May Elaine Cohn.

This fatal and devastating event took place just before 11:30 a.m. on June 29. The scene was a home on Lynoak Drive in Claremont, a city within Los Angeles County that is often noted for its affluence and serene environment.

Claremont police have reported that officers responded urgently to a call about a medical emergency. Upon arrival, it was discovered that the teenage boy had allegedly thrown the infant onto the floor inside the home.

After the incident, the severely injured baby was immediately rushed to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center and subsequently transferred to Children’s Hospital of Orange County due to the critical nature of her injuries. Tragically, despite the medical team’s dedicated efforts, the baby succumbed to her injuries.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has since charged the teen with murder.

As the criminal case moves forward, the grieving family has accused the daycare of creating a dangerous environment by allowing the teenager to be around young children.

The child’s mother, Jasmyne Cohn, said she was at work when she received a frantic phone call instructing her to rush to the hospital.

“My child had bruises all over her body. Her head was fractured,” Cohn told KTLA. “I lost my daughter due to the negligence of this daycare.”

The circumstances surrounding why the 17-year-old was inside the daycare remain unclear. The facility is intended for children ages eight and younger, and Troy’s parents believe the teen may have been attending the daycare while under the supervision of its owner.

Cohn said no child should ever have been placed in that situation.

“He should not have been in a daycare with children,” she said. “Not just my child, any child.”

The baby’s grandmother, Andrea Holcomb, questioned how the tragedy could have happened at all.

“She drops her off at daycare and then has to meet at the hospital because the baby has been harmed?” Holcomb told KTLA. “How does that make sense?”

Troy’s father, Anthony Owens, said he still cannot understand why his daughter was killed but wants those responsible held accountable. He and Cohn believe the daycare should be shut down.

Meanwhile, family members have launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover funeral expenses and legal costs as they seek justice for the infant.

“Jasmyne’s world was shattered when her four-month-old daughter lost her life in a tragic incident at a daycare facility,” the fundraiser states. “No parent should ever have to face such unimaginable pain and heartbreak.”

The tragedy has stunned Claremont, a city of about 37,000 residents that has historically seen very few homicides.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Tour de France 2023: Intriguing Start, Title Pursuits, and Australian Cyclists to Watch

0

The anticipation is building as the 113th edition of the Tour de France, renowned globally as the pinnacle of cycling events, is set to take off. This year, the race promises to deliver a new array of challenges for the cyclists competing in the peloton.

Kicking off in the vibrant streets of Barcelona on July 4, the men’s race will witness 184 riders from 23 teams battling for glory and the iconic Yellow Jersey, also known as the Maillot Jaune.

For those in Australia eager to witness the gripping action unfold, SBS has full live coverage slated for early Sunday mornings, with replays available to catch up on demand.

This year’s race course stretches over 3,320 kilometers, combining flat landscapes, challenging hills, and towering mountains, all concluding with the traditional finale in Paris on July 26.

In a notable change from the past, the women’s Tour de France Femmes will enjoy its own spotlight, commencing independently on August 1 in Lausanne, Switzerland, and concluding on August 9 in the picturesque city of Nice, France.

How the Tour de France works

Much has changed since the first Tour de France, which was established by French sports outlet L’Auto in 1903 in hopes of boosting newspaper sales. The race (albeit reckless and booze-filled) proved a hit with the public and today, it’s one of the most-watched sporting events worldwide.

The competition takes place over three weeks and consists of 21 stages, or standalone day-long races.

Distances also range from short time trial courses including the 19.6km ride on the first race day, to more than 200km-long endurance tests. Some stages are flat, favouring sprinters, while others include gruelling high-altitude finishes in the French Alps.

Each day of the competition, a stage winner is declared.

Last year, Australian Ben O’Connor won stage 18 of the Tour de France, after a world-class climb over three Alpine mountains, while fellow Aussie Kaden Groves triumphed in the penultimate stage of the race.

At the end of each day’s stage, the rider with the best time is awarded the coveted Yellow Jersey and wears it the next day. The rider with the lowest cumulative time across all 21 stages is named the overall winner and presented with the jersey. Cadel Evans remains the only Australian to win the Tour de France, achieving the historic feat in 2011.

There are also other jerseys awarded in a similar fashion — green for the most points (awarded for rider’s placing at the end of a stage), polka dot for best climber and white for best young rider.

Some riders and teams choose to chase stage wins for points and prestige, while the more dominant teams form their strategy around having the lowest time overall, known as chasing the general classification.

The exact length and route of the Tour de France also varies year by year, designed to test riders on diverse and unpredictable terrains.

This year’s course features a clockwise route and will begin with three stages in Spain, before the race returns to France.

Of the 37 stage towns in the 2026 competition, 10 are new additions. They include the Spanish port city of Tarragona in stage two and the French village of Thoiry at the start of the final race.

For the first time since 1971, the Tour de France will also begin with a team time trial instead of a standard race. The change has sparked some criticism, including from Richard Plugge, the managing director of Dutch cycling team Visma-Lease, who told media last year, “This isn’t really a team trial”.

“It’s more like a long lead-out for the leader. If they want to do something different, that’s fine, but then call it what it is. Maybe a team lead-out trial.”

Dramatic crashes in La Vuelta a España and Italy’s Tirreno-Adriatico race in recent years during team time trials have led to criticism of the format by some riders and safety concerns.

The format last featured in the Tour De France in 2019.

Yellow Jersey favourites

According to former Australian Olympian and 17-time Tour de France rider, Stuart O’Grady — Slovenia’s Tadej Pogačar is currently poised to win this year’s race.

“It’s pretty hard to go past Tadej Pogačar winning his fifth title and equalling the GOAT [greatest of all time], Eddy Merckx,” O’Grady told cycling festival Santos Tour Down Under on Tuesday.

A man wearing yellow cycling jersey and a white cap holds his left arm up in triumph as he carries a yellow bicycle over his right shoulder

Pogačar, 27, has won the race four times: including consecutive victories in both 2024 and 2025, as well as 2021 and 2020.

Other key riders to watch include Danish rider Jonas Vingegaard, who finished second in 2025 and Florian Lipowitz from Germany, who ranked third.

Two-time winner Vingegaard from Denmark, considered to be one of Pogačar’s closest rivals, will return to the race having won the Giro D’Italia earlier this year.

Australians at the Tour de France

Team Jayco–AlUla will head to the Tour de France with five Australian riders, including Ben O’Connor, Kelland O’Brien, Luke Durbridge, Luke Plapp and Michael Matthews. Two riders from Germany and a cyclist from Switzerland also make up the group.

The team has secured 11 stage victories since its inception, but has yet to take home the Yellow Jersey.

It will be Durbridge’s 12th time competing in the race and Matthews’ 9th appearance.

“If you’d told me three months ago that I would be lining up for the Tour de France, I don’t think I would have believed you,” said Matthews, who missed last year’s race due to illness and was hospitalised following a training crash earlier this year.

“I’ve worked really hard to get back together with the team in time for the Tour and I’m really looking forward being back … I can’t wait to line up with the boys in Barcelona.”

Gene Bates, head of performance at GreenEDGE Cycling, which manages the squad, said:

“It’s always a challenge to put together a team for the biggest race on the calendar … [but] this line-up has riders capable of competing on every stage over the three weeks, from the flat sprint stages through to the high mountains.”

Australian Michael Storer will make his third appearance in the race for the Tudor Pro cycling team, while Jai Hindley, who won a stage in 2023, will start for German team RedBull- BORA -hansgrohe.

Chris Harper and Damien Howson will ride for the Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team and Sebastian Berwick and Robert Stannard will ride for Caja Rural – Seguros RGA and Bahrain Victorious respectively.

A tougher challenge?

While the Tour de France has been described as one of sport’s toughest endurance feats, athletes will face an extra test this year — extreme heat.

It follows reports by the World Health Organization that more than 1,300 people in Europe died in part due to high temperatures late last month.

Christian Prudhomme, the managing director of Tour de France told Agence France-Presse, “We will obviously experience high temperatures during the Tour de France. Protecting the riders and the public is paramount for us. The watchword is adaptation.”

He noted that some riders from countries such as Australia are “used to intense heat” but added that extra refreshment zones may be established throughout the race.

Prudhomme also said the Tour de France distributes approximately 2.5 million hats and 400,000 litres of bottled water throughout the competition to spectators who line race routes.

This week, temperatures in Spain, where the race will begin, are forecast to surpass 40C according to the country’s meteorological agency.

Teen Murder Suspect in Penn State Case Captured 1,700 Miles Away; Second Suspect Arrested

0

Authorities have arrested a Pennsylvania teenager suspected of killing Penn State student Billy Schmidt. The teen was apprehended at a relative’s home in Colorado, ending a month-long search that concluded just hours before his alleged accomplice surrendered to law enforcement, officials revealed on Thursday.

The U.S. Marshals Service announced that 16-year-old Azzubair Outen-Fleming was detained in Colorado Springs after attempting to conceal his identity. He is currently held in a juvenile detention facility while awaiting extradition back to Philadelphia.

Earlier in the week, warrants were issued for Outen-Fleming and fellow 16-year-old Kaiseem Smith, both implicated in the fatal shooting incident. Smith subsequently turned himself in to Philadelphia police, just hours after Outen-Fleming’s capture had been disclosed by the Marshals Service.

According to Fox 29, Philadelphia Police Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore confirmed that Outen-Fleming has been formally charged with murder.

Schmidt, 22, was killed during an armed robbery attempt in Philadelphia that happened on June 6 at around 1:30 a.m.

Officers found him with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was taken to a local hospital where he died minutes after the shooting, which was captured on surveillance video.

In the footage, Schmidt is heard demanding his phone back before a gunshot is heard moments later.

The video shows a man throwing a cellphone before another individual can be seen running around a corner, while being chased by Schmidt, who was then shot in the chest.

Schmidt’s father, Bill Schmidt, told ABC7 that his son was on his way home from a bar where he was watching the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs with friends.

Jacksonville Sting: Police Undercover Operation Leads to 29 Prostitution Arrests

0

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — In a concerted effort led by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, a significant sweep resulted in the arrest of 29 individuals, comprising 24 men and five women, over the course of a strategic, three-day multi-agency crackdown. This initiative specifically targeted those suspected of using the internet for illicit solicitation activities.

This operation, known as “Operation County Line,” was executed in collaboration with several other agencies, including the Intercept Task Force and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office. The primary focus was on monitoring and apprehending individuals involved in soliciting or offering sexual services through various websites.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office highlighted that while prostitution is technically considered a misdemeanor, it remains a grave concern due to its role in fuelling human trafficking networks and its potential to spread infectious diseases.

An official list was released, documenting the identities and ages of those apprehended during the operation. This emphasizes the breadth and effectiveness of the joint enforceable effort.

The public is encouraged to stay vigilant. If you witness or suspect any form of prostitution or related suspicious activities, whether online or in-person, you should report directly to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at 904-630-0500. For broader concerns, the 24/7 National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-373-7888 is also available for immediate assistance.

Joao Palhinha Announces Spurs Departure, Inter Milan Pursues Trevoh Chalobah, Sunderland Receives £22M Offer for Eliezer Mayenda: Transfer Update

It’s that time again—the transfer window is wide open until September 1, promising an exciting flurry of activity as clubs eagerly hunt for new talent ahead of the upcoming season. Here are the latest updates from Simon Jones and the Daily Mail Sport team…

Palhinha confirms he’s off after saving Spurs

Tottenham’s standout player, Joao Palhinha, has announced that he will not be staying with the club on a permanent basis following the conclusion of his loan spell from Bayern Munich.

Manager Roberto de Zerbi had expressed his enthusiasm for keeping the talented Portuguese player after Spurs’ dramatic final day win over Everton, a victory secured by Palhinha’s impressive first-half goal.

Palhinha appears increasingly likely to make a return to his roots at Sporting Lisbon in Portugal.

As part of a message to Spurs on Instagram, the 30-year-old said: ‘Representing Tottenham has had a profound impact on my life, not only professionally but also personally, and it is something I will carry with me forever. I always tried to repay, in the best way I could, all the affection, respect and trust you showed me, both on and off the pitch.

‘As I have said before, what truly defines a great institution and a great football club is its supporters. Players, managers and directors come and go, but the fans remain. You are the ones who keep the flame of this club burning, season after season….’

He played 45 times for Spurs last season, playing a key role in the final part of the campaign in avoiding relegation.

Liverpool stopper Ike, 15, moves to Salford

Liverpool goalkeeping prospect Godwin Ike has joined Salford City.

The 15-year-old had been with Liverpool for seven years when he was first signed as part of their Under 9s squad.

He took to Instagram in May to post a farewell saying: ‘I have made priceless memories, learnt valuable lessons and have played with teammates that have turned into my brothers for life. I would like to thank all the staff within the academy that have helped me throughout my journey, I would like to wish my teammates the best of luck for the seasons ahead.’

Salford are developing a strong reputation for helping to bring on youngsters and Ike is understood to have signed for them despite competition from clubs higher up the leagues.

Inter push for Chalobah… with Chelsea wanting £35m

Inter Milan are pushing to sign Chelsea and England defender Trevoh Chalobah.

Como had a bid rebuffed by Chelsea but the Stamford Bridge club would consider offers around £35million.

Inter are holding talks with Chalobah representatives to assess their next step as they also want the 26-year-old.

Chelsea remain keen on Maxence Lacroix at Crystal Palace.

Coventry target Everton stopper Travers

Everton goalkeeper Mark Travers is emerging as a target for Coventry City.

The 27-year-old joined Everton from Bournemouth last summer and Frank Lampard is keen to add Premier League experience.

Coventry had a £20m bid rejected by Brighton for Carl Rushworth but are expected to try again as they want strength in depth.

EFL clubs battling for Man City hotshot, 19

Manchester City goalscoring prospect Matty Warhurst is poised to leave with a number of clubs jostling for his signature.

The 19-year-old centre forward has been prolific through the youth system, scoring 61 goals in 97 games.

Now in the final year of his contract at City, he is looking to make a breakthrough into senior football.

Competition is fierce at City, with the best in the world ahead of him, so Warhurst is weighing up offers with the likes of Stockport County, Swindon Town, Cambridge United, Northampton Town and Burton Albion all making their interest known.

City staff regard Warhurst as a cool and calm finisher.

Darlow weighing up offers from Premier League trio

Goalkeeper Karl Darlow has offers from Everton, Manchester United and Leeds United as he contemplates his next step.

The 35-year-old is a free agent after his contract ran down at Elland Road and enjoyed a strong season last campaign finishing as first choice after dislodging Lucas Perri as No1.

Darlow made 24 appearances last season and also had talks with Tottenham prior to them signing Martin Dubravka.

Leeds are pushing to renew terms as they want him to stay, though that will raise further doubts about Perri’s future while Illan Meslier is also out of contract and hoping to sign for Arsenal.

Leeds have also joined Aston Villa by enquiring after Parma and Japan keeper Zion Suzuki.

Manchester United are also keen on Wales international Darlow, but want to sell Altay Bayindir first to give them more financial headroom. Bayindir has interest from Besiktas, among others.

Everton have also come into play for Darlow as they want someone who can push Jordan Pickford further.

Stade Rennais make move for Mayenda

Stade Rennais have made a £22million offer for Sunderland forward Eliezer Mayenda.

The 21-year-old had limited game time last season and is open to moving to play more regularly.

Porto and Real Betis had also shown interest, but Stade Rennais have firmed up their interest with a bid for the Spain U21 international and talks are advancing today.

Sunderland bought Mayenda from Sochaux for just under £1m and the French side are understood to have a sell-on clause.

Mayenda scored Sunderland’s first goal in the 2025 EFL Championship play-off final at Wembley, equalising before they went on to beat Sheffield United 2-1 and secure promotion to the Premier League.

He then scored on his Premier League debut for Sunderland, the first goal in a 3–0 win over West Ham United.

United talks over Summerville

Manchester United have held exploratory talks with West Ham for winger Crysencio Summerville.

As Daily Mail Sport previously reported last month, Netherlands international Summerville is on United’s list but the current expectation is that Marcus Rashford would have to depart before they move for another winger.

United’s priority remains to add another midfielder after missing out on Mateus Fernandes who left West Ham for Tottenham this week in an £85million move.

Amy Schumer Shares Amusing ‘Baywatch’ Moment in Classic Black Swimsuit

Renowned for her sharp wit, Amy Schumer also effortlessly showcases a flair for fashion.

“I asked my lovely mother to film a humorous Baywatch-style running video of me, and this was the result,” the 44-year-old actress humorously shared on Instagram this Tuesday, June 30. The clip, set in slow motion, captured her preparing to jog, only to abruptly end once she began running.

“And this,” she humorously noted under another leisurely slow-motion video of herself strolling along the beach.

In the final snapshot, Schumer can be seen standing atop a sand mound, gazing into the horizon. With a playful jab at her mom’s photography skills, she captioned it, “She’s fired,” referring to the photo taken by her mother, Sandra Schumer.

Embracing her day at the beach, Schumer sported a chic dark red one-piece with a square neckline, layered under a long-sleeve bodysuit featuring a zip-up neckline. Ever the fashionista, she wore the zip slightly open to reveal the neckline of her outfit.

Schumer previously showed off her figure in a timeless swimsuit in April while vacationing with a friend. At the time, she took a dip in the water while wearing a black one-piece featuring a plunging neckline with white button details lining her chest. Her suit was complete with thick straps and a full-coverage back. Schumer completed her look by twisting her mane into an updo and wearing snorkeling goggles.

One of her best swimsuit moments came in May, when she slayed in a black strapless one-piece with a bow over her chest. She accessorized with a woven visor.

The Trainwreck star’s swim looks came after she opened up about losing 50 pounds with weight loss drugs and making lifestyle changes. She shared that her body transformation was an effort to treat Cushing syndrome and “survive” a life-threatening hormonal disorder, rather than to “look hot.”

Explosive Finale: Who Falls Victim in Dutton Ranch Season 1’s Shocking Conclusion?

A dramatic showdown unfolded at the train station.

The gripping season finale of the “Yellowstone” spinoff, “Dutton Ranch,” concluded on a suspenseful note rife with drama, including a murder, a surprise kidnapping, and an unexpected pregnancy announcement.

In this riveting finale titled “El Padrino,” Joaquin Jackson, portrayed by Juan Pablo Raba, executes his adopted brother Rob-Will Jackson, played by Jai Courtney, with a shot to the head in a chilling act of violence.

This deadly act was ordered by Joaquin’s father, the powerful drug lord Mariano Reyes, played by Raoul Trujillo. The elder Reyes’s anger erupted after Joaquin and Rob-Will’s mother, Beulah, portrayed by Annette Bening, chose Rob-Will over Joaquin as her successor to manage the ranch.

Joaquin carried out the grim task within the confines of Rob-Will’s home, leaving his niece, Oreana, played by Natalie Alyn Lind, to stumble upon her father’s lifeless body by their front door, overwhelmed by shock and grief.

Oreana sees the tail lights on Joaquin’s car as he speeds away, crying, but it’s unclear if she realizes that her uncle was the culprit.

To make matters worse for her, Oreana also discovers that she’s pregnant. “Dutton Ranch” doesn’t make it clear who the father is. It could be Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip’s (Cole Hauser) adopted son, Carter (Finn Little), since the two were involved.

But, Oreana was also dating other men before and after Carter. It seems like the show will reveal that in Season 2.

Meanwhile, Carter has bigger problems than a possible unplanned pregnancy. At the end of the episode, Mariano has his henchmen kidnap Carter, to provoke Beth and Rip.

During the episode, Beth and Rip – who had been working for Joaquin and Rob-Will’s mother, Beulah Jackson at her 10 Petal Ranch – discover that the Jacksons have been using their cattle to smuggle fentanyl from Mexico to the United States.

Apparently “Dutton Ranch” is now “Euphoria.” Beth and Rip find around 2 million dollars worth of packets of the drug sewn inside the cows.

They meet with Beulah, who confesses that she had been doing this work for Mariano, and was trying to get out of it. Both of her sons knew about it.

“Did you think we wouldn’t find out?” a furious Beth tells Beulah. “You’re filling cattle with fentanyl and dragging them across the border?  Are you out of your f–king mind?”

Although Rip and Beth return the drugs to Beulah, Mariano is still angry that they got involved in his business.

In retaliation for meddling in his drug trafficking business, Mariano sends henchmen after Rip and Beth. They creep up to Rip and Beth’s ranch at night, with guns.

During the shoot-out against the gunmen, Rip is aided by his ranch hands, Zachariah (Marc Menchaca) and Azul (R.R. Villarreal), and his friend, Everett (Ed Harris).

Rip and Beth win, killing Mariano’s henchmen, but in response, Mariano then kidnaps Carter.

“They don’t want Carter, they want us,” says Rip. Season 1 ends with Beth saying, “They’re gonna f–ing get us.”

During its first season, “Dutton Ranch” followed Rip and Beth after the events of cowboy drama “Yellowstone,” which starred Kevin Costner as Beth’s now-deceased father.

In “Dutton Ranch,” Rip and Beth move from Montana to Texas, and become entangled with the Jackson family.

In May, executive producer Christina Alexandra Voros told Page Six that Beth and Rip are looking for peace, but, “war keeps coming to their doorstep.”

On June 24, Paramount renewed the show for a Season 2, hailing it as the biggest debut in Paramount+ history. Per the network, it drew nearly 13 million viewers during its first week streaming, and nearly 3 million viewers airing on Paramount Network, making it the biggest series premiere on cable since 2023.

“Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan produced the show, but the Season 1 showrunner was Chad Feehan. However, after he was ousted three weeks before Season 1 premiered, Season 2 will need a new showrunner.

The Season 2 premiere date hasn’t been announced yet.

The “Dutton Ranch” Season 1 finale is now streaming on Paramount+ and airs on Paramount Network Friday, July 1 at 8 p.m.
