Dua Lipa and Callum Turner Spark Romance Rumors with Newlywed Look

0

Dua Lipa and Callum Turner appeared every bit the blissful newlyweds as they arrived at New York’s airport on Monday.

The couple returned from their dreamlike honeymoon in Italy, following a lavish wedding earlier this month in Sicily, a celebration reported to have cost £1.5 million.

Dua, 30, displayed her style in a chic blue linen shirt paired with navy jeans and complemented by black heeled boots.

Callum, 36, couldn’t hide his happiness, smiling broadly as he held his new wife’s hand while departing the airport.

Upon landing in New York City, Dua took to Instagram to describe her honeymoon with Callum as “heaven on earth,” sharing new snapshots from their travels.

The new photo dump included a nude snap of the Training Season singer as she luxuriates in a bubble bath at La Posta Vecchia hotel, a Renaissance villa located just outside Rome, which was once the seaside home of J. Paul Getty.

The couple stayed in the renowned Getty Suite overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea with the vast marble bath taking pride of place in the room.

The idyllic honeymoon has seen the couple travel along the Amalfi coast before heading to Rome where they were seen amongst tourists, paying for a pair of tickets to capture a photo beside the Trevi Fountain.

They also made a stop in Naples and enjoyed a stay in Taormina, checking into the San Domenico Palace, the hotel made famous by The White Lotus 2.

Earlier this month, three days after they officially married at Marylebone town hall in London, Dua and Callum jetted off to the island of Sicily for their three-day party based in the town of Palermo.

The celebrations were held in the historical Villa Valguarnera where a blessing was held for the couple, who met in January 2024 at a party in Los Angeles where they bonded over reading the same novel, Trust by Hernan Diaz.

One Kiss singer Dua’s close friend Sir Elton John performed his hit Your Song, while fellow pop star Charli XCX and fashion icon Donatella Versace were also guests.

Dua looked incredible in a haute couture Chanel gown by designer Matthieu Blazy, finally revealing photos of her look on Instagram.

The night before they hosted a cocktail party at the Galleria Moderna where the bride stunned in a custom made Bottega Veneta dress and a matching handbag.

Dua was given away by her father Dukagjin, who also acts as her manager while Callum’s beloved mother, the former nightclub doorwoman Rose Turner, was also handed a ‘special’ role at the wedding.

Sources close to the couple say that they are looking forward to ‘having babies’.

One friend told the Daily Mail: ‘They are so in love, they want to be together forever and they want to be parents in the not too distant future. They are both so family orientated. It’s so exciting.’

It has also been revealed that the couple are planning to relocate to the States for seven months.

Callum has landed two back-to-back shoots that require him to work across the pond, and Dua wants to be by his side.

The Bond frontman will first be filming a remake of the 1981 horror Possession, in which he will star alongside Margaret Qualley.

Up next is baseball film The Comebacker, in which Tom Hanks will play his pitching coach.

After revealing they are relocating, Callum mused: ‘We work jobs where we have to go around the world.’

He added to The Hollywood Reporter: ‘It’s important when we are home in London to be with our friends as much as possible.

‘We make sure that we’re together as much as possible.’

Authorities in Florida have detained a man following the shocking discovery of an elderly woman’s body in a hotel room.

Paul Stottler, aged 39, is currently being held at the Pinellas County Jail after facing charges of second-degree murder on Friday. The incident unfolded after police were called to the Holiday Inn Express in St. Petersburg, Florida, on June 25. Hotel staff discovered the lifeless body of 76-year-old Emma Jean Mullins in a guest room. Her remains were concealed under a mattress, wrapped in sheets and clothing.

Surveillance footage from the hotel revealed that Mullins entered the establishment with Stottler around 10:45 p.m. on the night before her body was found. Stottler was later observed leaving the property alone at approximately 4:30 a.m.

In a press release, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said evidence inside the hotel room where Mullins was found indicated that a struggle took place. Police said the furniture in the room was overturned and there were bloodstains and broken glass in various locations.

According to the complaint, Mullins suffered “blunt force trauma to her face and body.” She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said that when Stottler left the hotel alone, he did not leave empty-handed. According to the press release, Stottler was seen on surveillance cameras carrying several bags out of the hotel and then throwing them in a dumpster in the parking lot. Police searched the dumpster and found “three documents with Mullins’ name concealed in an ice bucket” along with men’s clothing and bloodied bedding.

After police arrested Stottler, he reportedly admitted to dumping evidence when he left the hotel.

Police did not provide information about the relationship between Stottler and Mullins.

Stottler is being held without bond at the Pinellas County Jail. He is due to appear in court on Tuesday.

Illinois Residents Applaud Supreme Court Ruling Upholding State Control Over Mail-In Ballot Elections

0

CHICAGO (WLS) — In a significant ruling, the U.S. Supreme Court has decided to uphold state autonomy in determining rules for counting mail-in ballots. This comes after a challenge backed by former President Donald Trump was brought into question ahead of the midterm elections.

The court delivered its verdict through a narrow 5-4 decision. It supported a Mississippi law that allows election officials to count mail-in votes arriving post-Election Day, provided they conform to state prerequisites. The justices clarified that federal legislation does not specify a deadline for tabulating ballots.

ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watch

State policies on mail-in voting vary significantly. In Illinois, ballots are accepted as long as they bear a postmark by Election Day and are received within a 14-day timeframe. Conversely, Mississippi permits a five-day grace period. Notably, Mississippi’s policy was contested by Republicans, who argued that only ballots received by Election Day should be counted.

“The contention was that a federal statute set a hard deadline, but the court ruled that it establishes a deadline by which ballots must be cast, not counted,” explained Ed Yohnka from the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois.

This decision underscores the continuing influence of state and local authorities in governing election procedures, reaffirming their significant role in election administration.

“The important thing here is elections according (to) our constitution are functions of state and local government, not of the White House,” Yohnka said.

The ruling marks a setback for Trump, who has repeatedly claimed mail-in voting leads to election fraud.

“The ruling that a lot of people were waiting for is detrimental to honest elections,” Trump said.

Despite those claims, millions of voters from both parties used mail-in ballots in the 2024 presidential election. Trump himself mailed a ballot in a recent Florida election.

Voting advocates say the method remains secure and expands access, particularly for certain groups. The League of Women Voters points to its benefits for military members, people with disabilities, elderly voters and those living in rural areas. The organization also says grace periods are necessary to account for potential postal service delays.

“It has become much, much more popular. I think it gives people the opportunity to vote when maybe other times they would not have been given the opportunity,” said Barbara Kwiatkowsky of the League of Women Voters of Illinois.

Trump is now calling on Congress to pass his proposed SAVE America Act. The measure would allow mail-in ballots for certain groups while requiring voters to provide photo identification and proof of citizenship. At this point, the proposal does not have enough support to pass in the Senate.

Islanders Shake Up Roster: Key NHL Players Left Without Qualifying Offers

0

The New York Islanders decided not to offer qualifying contracts to their trio of NHL-level restricted free agents by Monday’s deadline, suggesting that Marc Gatcomb, Max Shabanov, and Adam Boqvist are likely parting ways with the team.

An insider shared with The Post that although the Islanders may still consider re-signing Gatcomb as an unrestricted free agent, the absence of a qualifying offer indicates he isn’t a top priority for the team.

Over the weekend, general manager Mathieu Darche confirmed that Adam Boqvist would not receive a qualifying offer after facing challenges in securing a spot in last season’s lineup.

Similarly, it comes as little surprise that Shabanov, who joined the Islanders last summer from Russia, is not being retained after spending much of the season as a healthy scratch.

In contrast, Gatcomb frequently found himself on the ice, making valuable contributions on the fourth line throughout the season.

The former undrafted free agent broke into the NHL with the Islanders two seasons ago and fought his way to a regular role with physical, straight-line play.

Alex Jeffries, Joey Larson and Henrik Tikkanen, all minor leaguers, were qualified and will become restricted free agents.

Also among the AHL contingent, Matt Maggio, Eetu Liukas, Tristan Lennox and Ruslan Iskhakov were not extended qualifying offers.

Charlie Kirk’s Family to Attend Tyler Robinson Preliminary Hearing Next Week

0

Sources indicate that Charlie Kirk’s parents, along with his widow, Erika Kirk, are set to be present at Tyler Robinson’s preliminary court hearing in Utah slated for next week.

This will be the first significant court appearance Kirk’s family plans to attend following Robinson’s capture shortly after his alleged involvement in Kirk’s assassination.

Despite their attendance, it is anticipated that the family will refrain from making public statements.

Robinson, aged 22, faces charges of shooting Kirk during an event organized by Turning Point USA at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025. He has yet to submit a plea.

The preliminary hearing is expected to take the full week of July 6. Prosecutors will call witnesses in a bid to establish probable cause for the case against Robinson, and if they succeed, the court will allow the case to go to trial.

There is a chance that the hearing gets pushed back, however, with the Utah Supreme Court weighing a defense appeal over Judge Tony Graf’s denial of Robinson’s motion to ban news cameras from the proceedings — a motion opposed by designated victims’ advocate Erika Kirk.

The state’s highest court could issue a decision before the end of the week.

“[The preliminary hearing] is expected to be a raw, difficult moment for the family,” the source told Fox News and News Media.

Several videos of Kirk’s murder circulated widely online minutes after the shooting, and similar images are expected to be shown in court. The sides have agreed to notify family members of sensitive evidence before they show it, giving them an opportunity to leave the courtroom in advance, the source said Monday.

Robinson could face the death penalty if convicted of the top charge of aggravated murder. He faces six lesser charges, including weapons offenses, obstruction of justice and witness tampering.

Unlike a trial, hearsay testimony will be allowed at the preliminary hearing. And prosecutors have successfully asked the court to allow them to play a video statement from Twiggs, rather than putting him on the witness stand to face cross-examination.

Prosecutors have argued that Twiggs is unavailable to testify in person, after he moved out of state and was briefly placed under the FBI’s protection due to the case’s high profile.

Robinson allegedly confessed to the assassination in conversations with Twiggs and in a note left behind at the pair’s shared apartment, according to court documents.

“I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk, and I’m going to take it,” the alleged note reads, according to court filings.

“You weren’t the one who did it right????” Twiggs allegedly asked in a text message later.

“I am, I’m sorry,” Robinson allegedly responded, according to court filings.

Police recovered the suspected murder weapon, a Mauser rifle, wrapped in a blanket in a patch of woods near campus. Prosecutors have said that other text messages between Robinson and Twiggs allegedly discuss wanting to retrieve the rifle.

Twiggs is cooperating with investigators and has not been charged with a crime.

Kirk, a 31-year-old father of two, founded the campus-based conservative group Turning Point USA. He was participating in a question-and-answer speaking tour when a single bullet struck him fatally in the neck.

Last week, Graf ruled that the prosecution had violated a gag order but denied the defense team’s motion to strike the potential death penalty ahead of trial, finding instead that expanded jury selection procedures would be appropriate.

Jannik Sinner Survives Five-Set Thriller at Wimbledon Despite Foot Injury

0

Jannik Sinner’s journey to retain his Wimbledon title was always expected to face hurdles from a famed Serbian adversary—but perhaps not the one who emerged as a formidable opponent.

In a surprising turn, it wasn’t 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic who rattled the world No. 1, but his fellow Serb, Miomir Kecmanovic, who left a mark on Sinner’s resolve as evident by bloodstains on his shoes—a testament to the fierce contest.

Meanwhile, Djokovic himself faced a formidable challenge from Chinese player Yibing Wu. Wu managed to keep the match tight at one set apiece, even securing seven break points in the third and fourth sets, but ultimately succumbed to Djokovic’s superior physical prowess and strategic mastery.

Jannik Sinner is into the second round at Wimbledon - but it was a painful route in getting there

Jannik Sinner has advanced to the second round at Wimbledon, though his progression was anything but smooth.

Sinner's Nike shoes were covered in blood seeping through after a fall early in the match

The Italian player’s Nike shoes were notably stained with blood following a tumble early in the match, highlighting the physical toll of his effort.

It was a laborious and energy-zapping outing for the world No 1 on his first competitive appearance since he wilted in the Paris heat last month and was knocked out of the French Open in a huge second-round shock by then world No 56 Juan Manuel Cerundolo.

Sinner’s right shoe was stained by red blood, which he said was not as bad as it looked, and a five-set clash of three hours and 29 minutes was rather unwelcome for a man trying to ease himself into the tournament after having time off following his Roland Garros disappointment.

‘I am good, (the blood) seems much worse than it is,’ he said. ‘I am surprised they let me keep playing because of the all-white (uniform guidelines)!

‘It was a good match from both of us so I didn’t want to disturb and take any time (with a medical time-out).’

The Italian recovered well after losing the first set but Kecmanovic soon regained the lead after triumphing in some lengthy rallies on Centre Court, which hosted famous faces such as Sir David Beckham and Dame Mary Berry, both who joined in with the Mexican Wave.

Sinner was in no mood for such pleasantries and feared he might soon wave farewell to SW19 after just one day of his title defence.

But he soon settled and breezed through the next two sets to overturn the deficit and win 4-6, 6-3, 6-7, 6-2, 5-3.

Later in the day, a couple got engaged on Centre Court and Djokovic nearly followed the gentleman in falling down on his knee as he was given a tough examination by world No 102 Yu.

The Chinese player became a crowd favourite with his energetic style and soon they were chanting an elongated ‘Yu’ every time he won a point, amplified by the roof being shut and noise that seemed to rile Djokovic – though he might have mistaken the noise as him being booed.

Djokovic comes to SW19 having not won a major in his last 12 attempts going back to the 2023 US Open, his first two-year wait for a Grand Slam triumph since his breakthrough years on the circuit as a teenager.

Now 39, the Serb is not yet ready to quit and, with Alcaraz absent and question-marks over Sinner’s staying power after the breakdown at the last two Slams, many believe this is his last chance to win a 25th major and eighth Wimbledon crown to equal Roger Federer.

This was a stern test, though, for the man who has not played since he was felled at Roland Garros by up-and-coming Brazilian Joao Fonseca.

BBC viewers missed Wu take the second set as they asked punters to switch from BBC Two to BBC One, only to find they had to watch the final five minutes of Eastenders.

But the action was just as dramatic in west London as it is in the fictional Walford as Wu continued to test his storied opponent.

In the fourth set, he had three break points at 3-2 up and looked certain to open up a 4-2 lead but Djokovic clawed back to deuce.

Wu had another chance when he took advantage but could not capitalise again, his opponent’s experience and mentality proving stronger.

Djokovic was booed as he played an imaginary violin with his racquet at the end as Wu left to an ear-splitting ovation.

He said: ‘It was really challenging for me. Wu deserves a huge round of applause. I am feeling happy but not the freshest, it did not feel like the first round.

‘He surprised me with the level of every shot in his game. He did not really have a weakness, I probably should have lost the fourth set.’

Proven Daily Exercise Routine to Keep You Aging Like an Athlete at 60+

0

Curious about how gracefully you’re aging at 60? These four time-honored exercises could offer some insightful clues.

>

In today’s world, our fascination with technology is undeniable. From fitness wearables and step counters to sleep monitors, the tools at our disposal seem endless. Nevertheless, understanding healthy aging doesn’t always require intricate gadgets or medical evaluations. Sometimes, the most telling indicators come from exercises that have proven their worth over the years.

Despite the ever-changing landscape of fitness fads, certain timeless exercises persistently appear in the regimens of elite athletes and seniors alike. The enduring popularity of these movements stems from their ability to assess the body’s overall functionality, rather than merely enhancing muscle power.

For those over 60, maintaining muscular strength and physical function is essential for aging healthily. A 2025 review highlights that higher levels of strength and functional fitness correlate with improved mobility, a reduced risk of falls, greater independence, and an enhanced quality of life in older adults.

The good news is that you don’t need a pricey gym membership or complex equipment to stay fit as you age. James Brady, CPT, a certified personal trainer at OriGym, suggests that a few straightforward exercises can effectively gauge how well you are aging physically.

“There is no single test that determines how well you’re aging, but a few classic exercises can reveal a lot about your strength, mobility, and overall fitness,” explains Brady. “If you can comfortably perform squats, push ups, and planks at 60, you’re demonstrating many of the physical qualities associated with healthy aging.”

Squats

Few exercises reveal as much info about your lower body function as the squat. Squats require strength in your quads, glutes, and hamstrings while demanding mobility from your hips, knees, and ankles.

“Squats are one of the best indicators of lower body strength and mobility,” says Brady. “They challenge the muscles used for everyday activities such as climbing stairs, getting out of a chair, and maintaining balance.”

How to do it:

  1. Stand with your feet about shoulder-width apart.
  2. Keep your chest lifted and your eyes looking forward.
  3. Engage your core muscles.
  4. Push your hips backward as if you’re sitting in a chair.
  5. Bend your knees and lower under control.
  6. Keep your heels in contact with the floor.
  7. Lower as comfortably as your mobility allows.
  8. Pause for one to two seconds at the bottom.
  9. Drive through your heels to stand.
  10. Perform two to three sets of 10 to 15 reps, resting for 60 to 90 seconds between sets.

Push-ups

For adults over 60, push-ups remain one of the most effective indicators of upper body strength and functional fitness. “Push-ups assess upper body strength, core stability, and shoulder function all at once,” explains Brady. “Being able to perform them consistently suggests you’re maintaining muscle mass and movement quality across multiple areas of the body.”

How to do it:

  1. Get into a high plank position.
  2. Position your hands slightly wider than shoulder-width apart.
  3. Create a straight line from head to toe.
  4. Flex your core and glutes.
  5. Slowly bend your elbows.
  6. Lower your chest toward the floor.
  7. Keep your elbows angled slightly backward.
  8. Pause for one to two seconds at the bottom of the movement.
  9. Push through your palms to return to the starting position.
  10. Aim for two to three sets of 8 to 15 reps, resting for 60 to 90 seconds between sets.

4 Chair Exercises That Flatten Waist Overhang Faster Than Gym Workouts After 50

Planks

Core endurance becomes essential as you age because it helps support posture, balance, and spinal health. Additionally, Brady says that “a strong core supports helps transfer force efficiently during daily activities and exercise.”

How to do it:

  1. Start on your forearms and toes.
  2. Position your elbows directly beneath your shoulders.
  3. Keep your body in a straight line.
  4. Engage your ab muscles.
  5. Tighten your glutes and legs.
  6. Avoid letting your hips sag.
  7. Keep your neck straight and neutral.
  8. Breathe steadily through your nose during the movement
  9. Hold for 20 to 60 seconds and repeat for two to three rounds, resting for 60 to 90 seconds between sets.

Single-Leg Stands

Research shows that balance is strongly associated with mobility, fall prevention, and independence in older adults. Fortunately, single-leg stands challenge your stabilizing muscles around your ankles, knees, hips, and core while providing a quick snapshot of balance control.

How to do it:

  1. Stand tall near a stable support if needed.
  2. Position your feet hip-width apart.
  3. Shift your weight onto one leg.
  4. Lift the opposite foot a few inches off the floor.
  5. Keep your gaze fixed on a point ahead.
  6. Maintain an upright posture.
  7. Avoid leaning too far to one side.
  8. Lower your foot and switch sides.
  9. Hold each side for 20 to 30 seconds and repeat two to three times. Rest for 60 to 90 seconds between sets.

Cheryl Hines Left Heartbroken by Michelle Obama’s Intense Reaction

0

Cheryl Hines, the actress married to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., is notably absent from comedian Larry David’s latest HBO series commemorating America’s 250th birthday. This omission, the Daily Mail has discovered, seems to be influenced by none other than former First Lady Michelle Obama.

Insiders from the seven-part series, titled “Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness: An Almost History of America,” which made its debut on June 26, suggest that Michelle Obama, who serves as an executive producer on the project, insisted Hines be excluded due to her recent outspoken support for the MAGA movement.

Sources reveal that the very idea of Hines being part of the show was enough to provoke an intense reaction from Michelle, reportedly described as going “absolutely ballistic.”

Hines, now 60, appears to have drawn Michelle’s ire by distancing herself from the Democratic Party and developing a friendly rapport with former President Donald Trump and his Republican associates, according to those familiar with the situation.

Through their production company, Higher Ground, Michelle and Barack Obama are heavily involved in the creation of David’s show. Furthermore, Barack Obama makes an appearance in a guest-starring capacity, adding a unique touch to the series.

Hines appeared on David’s long-running sitcom Curb Your Enthusiasm for more than two decades until 2024. So, when she learned that she wouldn’t be signed for his special new project, ‘she was devastated,’ according to an insider.

Michelle Obama is being blamed for Cheryl Hines’s glaring absence from the cast of Larry David’s new HBO show honoring America’s 250th birthday, sources said

Michelle Obama is said to have banned the actress, who is married to MAHA leader Robert F Kennedy Jr, from appearing in the HBO series because she’s now ‘all-MAGA, all-the-time’

‘Cheryl felt terribly hurt and emotionally injured because she had worked so closely with Larry for the entire 12 seasons of Curb Your Enthusiasm and they had become like bosom buddies,’ the insider said.

‘Cheryl’s dream was to work with Larry again and be part of the cast of the new show. She firmly believed that the staunch anti-Trumper could put aside his negative political views about MAGA and Kennedy.

‘But banning Cheryl was a command from Michelle that Larry could not go against, even if he had wanted to, for old time’s sake, and mend their past close ties.

‘He always respected her as an actress. But Michelle’s the boss. And you don’t cross the boss, especially a powerful anti-MAGA force like Michelle.’

Through her spokeswoman, Hines declined to comment on this report.

As David told a screening of the show last week at the American Legion theater in Hollywood, the Obamas’ production company asked him him to do a show honoring America for its 250th anniversary.

‘I liked the idea. I was a history major… because you never know when you’re going to get into a discussion about the Franco-Russian War,’ he told the crowd.

David’s personal and professional relationship with Hines, however, ‘completely faded’ after her husband dropped his longtime Democratic affiliation as a member of the Kennedy clan and briefly ran as an independent in 2024 against former President Joe Biden, who David once publicly supported.

Kennedy, 72, then became a Trump acolyte and is now Secretary of Health and Human Services and the leader of the controversial Make America Healthy Again movement.

According to a well-placed insider, Michelle, 62, as an executive producer, didn’t have much to do with the script or other aspects of David’s series. She was, however, involved in the casting – who the cast members and guest stars would be – and signed off on all of them, making it known: ‘No Cheryl Hines!’

‘Michelle can be a b***h on wheels when she wants to,’ a source said.

According to Variety, cast members of David’s new show include Curb Your Enthusiasm alumni Jeff Garlin, Susie Essman and JB Smoove, among others.

Jerry Seinfeld, who created Seinfeld with David, will also feature, while other guest stars include Jane Krakowski, Rita Wilson and Gregg Kinnear. Meanwhile, former President Obama, 64, working his acting chops, appears as himself in at least one episode.

‘But when Cheryl’s name was brought up to join the cast by some of the production people who knew and liked her from Curb, Michelle went absolutely ballistic,’ a source said.

‘We cannot and will not have that woman on this show. She’s not one of us,’ Michelle was quoted by the source as saying.

Another insider, who like the others asked to remain anonymous for fear of retribution from the powerful Obamas, told the Daily Mail: ‘Michelle felt that Cheryl wasn’t any great shakes as an actress, but mainly she felt she was disgustingly all MAGA because she was married to Bobby Kennedy Jr who she described as a turncoat to the Democratic party and a verifiable whack job as Trump’s Secretary of Health and Human Services.

‘Clearly, Michelle’s a victim of what they call Trump Derangement Syndrome, because her true feelings surfaced in her clear-cut rejection of Cheryl.

‘It had nothing to do with Cheryl as an award-winning actress, but rather her supposed politics because of her marriage to Kennedy and being part of Trump’s inner circle of supporters.’

The Daily Mail has contacted representatives for Michelle Obama for comment.

At the premiere of his new series, David called Trump’s UFC Freedom 250 event on the South Lawn of the White House on his 80th birthday ‘a travesty,’ saying he was ’embarrassed to be an American.’

In response, a White House spokesperson called the event ‘one of the greatest and most historic sports events in history.’

‘Anyone who finds a problem with that clearly suffers from a severe and incurable disease known as Trump Derangement Syndrome,’ they added.

David, meanwhile, has previously called Trump a ‘sociopath,’ saying he is ‘insane’ and ‘a sick man.’

Michelle, too, has been a vocal critic. In discussing her attendance at Trump’s first inauguration, she said she felt ‘very emotional and felt out of place… To look around at a crowd that was not reflective of the country, and to sit in that audience as one of the handful of people of color… it was a lot, emotionally.’

Meanwhile, the early media reviews for the new series are not as positive as the raves that Curb generated.

Yahoo offered a scathing take, declaring that David ‘forgot to bring along any of the wit or sparkle’ that made Curb so fun, and described the show as a ‘lazy history lesson full of recycled jokes,’ ‘flimsy material’ and sketches that ‘miss far more often than hit.’

A critic for the New York Post was even harsher, leading his review with a take on David’s own iconic words from Curb, declaring the new show, ‘prettyyyy, prettyyyy, prettyyyy bad.’

He called the series ‘shaky,’ noting wryly that it was produced by ‘comedy icons Barack and Michelle Obama,’ and observed: ‘Larry’s bitter, picky antics don’t fit in everywhere. Really, I’m convinced 2024’s terrific finale of Curb should have marked the end of them.’

And the Hollywood Reporter reviewer noted that four or five of the sketches are ‘either bad or end without a conclusive sense of what the joke even was.’

‘Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness isn’t smooth or steady, but in another 250 years, give or take, I should be ready for another season,’ the critic wrote.

As one show insider told Daily Mail, Hines, for her part, would have played ‘a great Martha Washington.’

Europe’s Deadly Heatwave Overwhelms French Morgues as Vast Regions Endure Scorching Temperatures

A devastating heatwave has gripped Europe, resulting in over 1,300 fatalities and causing French morgues to reach full capacity, as the continent continues to endure scorching conditions.

On Sunday, central and eastern Europe were still in the grip of relentless heat, with countries like the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Poland experiencing record-breaking temperatures.

The World Health Organization has reported more than 1,300 excess deaths in Europe since June 21. French health authorities revealed there have been approximately 1,000 additional deaths in the country since Wednesday.

In Paris, Zouhaier Hertelli, manager of the Paris-Orly International Funeral Home (Val-de-Marne), has been overwhelmed with constant phone calls.

Most of these calls come from funeral directors and grieving families, all asking a similar question: Is there space available for one more?

But with all 32 places in his cold room taken, Hertelli reluctantly has to gently say ‘Non,’ over and over and over again.

‘We’re facing a really catastrophic situation,’ he said, adding: ‘I’m getting hundreds of calls.’

This heatwave is the most severe ever recorded in Europe, and would have been ‘virtually impossible’ this early in the summer without climate change, the World Weather Attribution group of scientists said.

All-time temperature records have been broken in Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic, as well as for the month of June in the UK and in Switzerland.

‘We’re dealing with an enormous spike of deaths because of the heat wave and we’re really full, full, full,’ Hertelli said.

Public Health France said there were more than 1,200 deaths last Wednesday, when France registered its hottest-ever day, breaking a record that had been set just the previous day.

Deaths then increased to more than 1,400 on Thursday and another 1,400 on Friday, it said.

By way of comparison, the pre-heat wave death rate in April and May was around 900 to 1,000 per day, it said.

The agency cautioned that its estimate of at least 1,000 additional deaths during those three sizzling days alone is expected to increase as more death certificates come in for people who died at home and in care facilities for older people, where most deaths are still not registered electronically.

‘Mortality will as a consequence be higher than these first figures,’ the agency said.

It said that 85 per cent of the deaths registered so far during the three days it studied involved people aged 65 and above and that there was a sharp increase in deaths at home – up by about 40 per cent – particularly in the Paris region.

Hertelli and others in the funeral industry said Paris mortuaries quickly ran out of storage space.

City Hall said two temporary storage units, with 20 places each, were installed for municipal mortuaries and that city hospitals provided another 50 additional places.

Still, Hertelli said funeral directors he spoke to told him they were having to store bodies as far away as Chartres – 50 miles from Paris – and in other regions around the capital.

To open more space, he said he has asked authorities for permission to temporarily install refrigerated containers outside his mortuary, which is next to Paris’ Orly airport, but is still waiting for a green light.

‘Families are suffering,’ he said. ‘We have no solution to offer them, because the funeral homes are full. So we are deeply affected, we have empathy for them, but there’s nothing we can offer. We are really facing a problem, a big problem,’ he added.

‘Right now, 150 million people are living under extreme heat, hundreds have died, schools are shut, grids are buckling,’ WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on X.

‘Europe is the fastest-warming continent on Earth, heating at twice the global average,’ he warned.

Storms brought some respite overnight, particularly in France after several days of temperatures close to 40C.

But they also caused damage, as a man died near Brussels when a tree fell on his car, local media reported.

In France, the highest-level heat alerts were expected to ease on Sunday evening, although millions continued to endure sweltering conditions.

Still marked by the 2003 heatwave – Europe’s worst in centuries, which killed around 15,000 people – French authorities feared a rising death toll.

Interior Minister Laurent Nunez rejected criticism from opposition deputies over the response, insisting: ‘This is not a fiasco – we were prepared.’

Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu has called a special cabinet meeting to discuss how to learn the lessons from the recent heatwaves and to prepare for the possibility of more, his office announced.

French weather agency France-Meteo said on Sunday evening it was already anticipating the possibility of another heatwave in July.

Temperatures soared above 40C in several countries on Sunday as the heatwave shattered records across central and eastern Europe.

Poland recorded a new all-time high of 40.5C in the western town of Slubice, according to the national meteorological institute.

Poland’s long-distance rail operator PKP Intercity announced disruption to some of its services, with the public displays at Warsaw’s Central train station showing delays of more than four hours.

Germany set a new national high of 41.7C at Coschen, near the Polish border, surpassing a high set just a day earlier.

The Berlin police used water cannons to help residents of the capital cool off for a second day running Sunday – this time at the Olympia venue where singer Bruno Mars was performing.

One 32-year-old Berliner, Diane, told AFP she had fainted from the heat once already, despite drinking three litres of water.

The Czech Republic also broke records for a second consecutive day, with 41.1C recorded in Doksany, north of Prague. That was later revised upwards to 41.9C.

France’s National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) said rising temperatures were clearly affecting marine life and biodiversity.

Speaking from a beach at Wimereux in northern France, CNRS research director Gregory Beaugrand told AFP the warming of the Channel was disrupting the food chain, as ‘fish that like cold waters are disappearing’.

French paleoclimatologist Jean Jouzel told the Tribune newspaper he feared political attention would quickly shift once the heatwave ends.

Urging people to heed scientific warnings, he said: ‘People are closing their eyes – but it is extremely serious.’

Following a stormy night, the German Weather Service (DWD) forecasted severe thunderstorms with heavy to extremely heavy rain in some areas throughout Monday.

Emergency services in and around Dresden, as well as in the Görlitz area, responded to multiple calls about fallen trees during the night, while the fire department was called out near Görlitz after a lightning strike.

On Sunday, a large-scale emergency response was launched at a youth camp in Eilenburg, Saxony, due to health problems affecting numerous children.

The children complained of heat-related circulatory problems, according to Der Spiegel.

Approximately a dozen children and teenagers required medical attention and were taken to hospitals, the police said.

Police have launched an investigation on suspicion of negligent bodily harm, the outlet claimed.
