Mamdani’s New York Triumph: A Turning Point for Democratic Party Evolution

NEW YORK – New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has captured national attention this week, emerging as a prominent figure within the Democratic Party.

However, not all Democratic leaders share this enthusiasm about his rise.

Despite progressive celebrations across the nation, notable Democrats, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, are downplaying the impact of Mamdani’s achievements. The 34-year-old democratic socialist scored impressive victories on Tuesday when his endorsed congressional candidates defeated three establishment figures, two of whom were incumbents, in primaries. In state legislative races, Mamdani further showcased his political prowess by supporting five successful candidates.

This remarkable string of triumphs comes just six months into Mamdani’s mayoralty, significantly boosting his influence in Washington, D.C., and Albany. On Wednesday, Mamdani expressed his ambition to spread his policies nationwide while pushing for significant reforms within the Democratic Party.

“Working people are facing hardships across the nation,” Mamdani stated. He emphasized his desire to contribute to “writing a new chapter in our party’s history, placing working people at the core of that struggle.” He believes this approach will be crucial not only for the upcoming midterm elections in November but also for the future.

The mixed reaction from Democratic leaders as they grappled with the fallout from Mamdani’s success exposed the depth of the divide between the party’s progressive and establishment wings, who are at odds over how Democrats should govern — and how to win elections — over the final two years of the Donald Trump presidency.

Indeed, Democrats hope to avoid an all-out intraparty civil war ahead of the November midterms, especially with Republicans fighting amongst themselves over Trump’s war in Iran, how to address the affordability crunch and the president’s costly efforts to build a massive White House ballroom.

Democrats aren’t sure which direction to take

The Mamdani resistance from senior Democrats was not subtle.

“The effort to nationalize New York is going to fail,” said Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut. “What’s happening in New York will be really irrelevant by the time of the elections in November.”

Rep. Marc Veasey of Texas, a vice chair of the New Democrat Coalition, was similarly dismissive, saying progressives were playing checkers while moderates were playing chess.

“No one in DSA is trying to win in a red-to-blue seat, or in a tough general election matchup,” Veasey said, referring to democratic socialist candidates.

Democrats’ left flank said the party’s latest nominees should be welcomed with open arms.

“What I would like to see, and what I think would be actually productive and beneficial, is a congratulations to these people, a commitment to welcome them in, to understanding the perspectives that they bring,” said Rep. Summer Lee, a 38-year-old progressive from Pennsylvania.

Sen. Bernie Sanders, an independent from Vermont who campaigned alongside Mamdani and his allies last week, said New York’s results sent a clear message.

“The American people, in New York and increasingly all over the country, are sick and tired of status quo establishment politics,” he said. “I think you’re gonna continue to see it.”

Trump saw an opportunity to stir the pot from the Oval Office, telling reporters that the Democrats were “going radical left” and Mamdani’s choices are “really communist.”

He marveled at the defeat of Rep. Dan Goldman, a former top lawyer during Democrats’ first impeachment of Trump. Goldman was defeated by Brad Lander, an ally of Mamdani.

“When they go more liberal than Dan Goldman, they’re really into Never Neverland,” he said.

‘Voters are just pissed off’

Mamdani backed three anti-establishment congressional challengers in a political gamble that his own team acknowledged was risky. He won them all.

Goldman, a two-term incumbent, was swiftly defeated by Lander, a former city comptroller.

U.S. Rep. Adriano Espaillat, who leads the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, was toppled by Mamdani’s most polarizing pick, Darializa Avila Chevalier, a democratic socialist who once helped organize pro-Palestinian protests at Columbia University.

Antonio Reynoso, the handpicked successor of U.S. Rep. Nydia Velazquez, lost to another democratic socialist, Assembly Member Claire Valdez.

The entire Mamdani slate promised to “abolish ICE,” condemned Israel’s “genocide” in Gaza and vowed to “tax the rich.”

“Voters are just pissed off,” Lander said in an interview. “They want people who show who they’re fighting for, and really get out and fight for things that matter in the lives of working people.”

Cheering the extent of Mamdani’s success, progressive leaders called on the Democratic Party’s leadership in Washington — and its next crop of presidential candidates — to adopt meaningful changes in the weeks and months ahead.

Indeed, Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut, a potential presidential candidate, said it would be “silly” for his party not to draw meaningful conclusions from New York’s results.

“The voters are clearly telling us they want us to be bolder — bolder in the policies we’re proposing and bolder in the tactics we use to fight authoritarians,” he said.

And yet the Mamdani critics within the party were not hard to find.

Jeffries, who is in line to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the House majority this fall, reiterated his opposition to Mamdani’s slate in repeated interviews and media appearances.

“He’s got work to do in terms of the conversations that he’s going to have with members of Congress moving forward,” Jeffries, the No. 1 House Democrat jabbed, even as he said they have a good working relationship.

Republicans are paying attention

Giddy House Republican operatives vowed to weaponize Mamdani and his slate to undercut the Democratic brand in competitive midterm elections across the country, while other Republican officials warned their party to pay attention to this pivotal moment in the nation’s politics.

“Republicans need to wake up. What we saw last night in New York can only be called one thing: a socialist uprising sweeping the Democrat Party,” said Sen. Bernie Moreno of Ohio. “If Republicans don’t act now, we will lose this country as we know it.”

Meanwhile, Trump seemed to worry more about Mamdani’s growing national profile than his democratic socialist policies.

“Mayor Mamdani pulled through 3 solid Communists, and has received loud and universal applause from the Fake News Media. Congratulations Mr. Mayor!” the Republican president wrote on social media. “I went 16-0 last night, helping to elect wonderful American Patriots, and the Media doesn’t say a word.”

Meanwhile, Mamdani dismissed broader concerns that his success would undermine the Democratic Party’s fight to win control of Congress this fall.

“We’ve heard from Republicans time and again that they’re going to try and make these candidates the face of the Democratic Party. To them, I say that we are ready for that,” he said. “For far too long we have been told that it is not possible to fight for working people and win. These candidates have shown that they can.”

And yet some Democrats were clear-eyed about the work that lies ahead to bring the party together as new divisions flared in the wake of Mamdani’s success.

“We have to respect the voters. They made their decision,” said Sen. Peter Welch of Vermont.

“The challenge that we have,” he continued, “is to build the different points of view together, all in service of helping people who are struggling to pay their bills to get more economic security. The challenge of unity is enormous. But that’s our challenge.”

Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker Embrace Co-Parenting Vacation During Divorce Proceedings

Amid their ongoing divorce proceedings, Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker have managed to keep their focus on family, demonstrating a commitment to their children’s well-being by remaining active in their lives.

The pair, no longer romantically involved, recently embarked on a family vacation with their kids. According to Burruss, this co-parenting journey has, surprisingly, been progressing quite smoothly despite their personal challenges.

During the trip, Burruss couldn’t help but share a lighthearted moment when she caught Tucker indulging in some poolside reading. The devotional text, “Daily Prayers for Men,” was under his scrutiny, inviting a playful jab from Burruss.

Amused by the situation, Burruss quipped, “Okay, this is funny to me because we’re on this co-parenting trip. What you reading? Daily Prayers for Men. Amen. To God be the glory.”

Reflecting on their past, she added, “We’ve been married for almost 12 years, and that man never had a Prayers for Men book, none of that. Now, as we navigate divorce, here’s Todd on the beach or poolside with his Daily Prayers for Men book.”

She quickly clarified that she wasn’t criticizing his spiritual growth.

“Now, I ain’t say that’s a bad thing. That’s a good thing,” Burruss continued. “But he should’ve started doing that a long time ago. What y’all think?”

Alongside the video, Burruss joked in the caption, “Well @todd167 & I have been really nice on this co-parenting trip but every now & then the urge to be petty comes out… #StayPrayedUp,” Burruss posted, before asking her followers, “Have yall ever done a co-parenting trip.”

Just days before the family getaway, Burruss marked Father’s Day with a tribute to Tucker.
In a separate post she wrote, “Happy Father’s Day @todd167!!!!! Couldn’t let the day end without saying thank you for being such a great dad to our kids,” she wrote.

The family getaway comes as Burruss and Tucker continue to work through their divorce.

Burruss filed for divorce in November 2025, and court documents obtained by TMZ detail several financial disputes involving the couple’s two children, Ace and Blaze.

According to the filing, Burruss claims Tucker attended both children’s birthday parties after the divorce was filed but did not contribute to the costs. She also alleges he has not helped pay for tuition, school fees, supplies or child support.

As such, Burruss is asking the court to establish a formal parenting schedule and require Tucker to contribute financially to the children’s expenses. Tucker’s attorney has not responded to requests for comment.

Paramedic Who Improperly Restrained Patient on Gurney Receives No Jail Time

Former EMT sentenced to probation

Inset: Earl Moore Jr. (Facebook). Background: News footage of Peter Cadigan in court for his sentencing on June 23 (WAND).

In a controversial case, an Illinois man has been spared additional prison time after acknowledging his role in the tragic death of a patient he was supposed to help.

Fifty-three-year-old Peter Cadigan received a sentence of two years of probation following his guilty plea to involuntary manslaughter in relation to the 2022 death of Earl Moore Jr., aged 35. Initially charged with first-degree murder alongside 48-year-old Peggy Finley, Cadigan faced these charges after prosecutors claimed they strapped Moore face-down to a gurney, leading to his suffocation. As previously reported by Law&Crime, Moore was experiencing hallucinations during alcohol detox when Cadigan and Finley, both LifeStar ambulance EMTs, were called to his Springfield, Illinois residence on December 18, 2022.

Prosecutors stated that after police helped position Moore on the gurney, Finley and Cadigan excessively tightened restraints across his back and lower body, leaving him face-down. This positioning resulted in Moore’s unfortunate death from “compressional and positional asphyxia.” Both former EMTs were notably seasoned professionals in emergency medical services.

In body camera video obtained by Law&Crime, police officers are seen walking Moore out of his home to a gurney waiting outside. The officers lift Moore onto the gurney, where he ends up on his side. Cadigan then repositioned him face down before strapping Moore down. Finley is seen placing a blanket over Moore, and both she and Cadigan continued to strap Moore down.

Cadigan pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in April. During the hearing on Tuesday, he was sentenced to 24 months of probation and 100 hours of community service. He was ordered not to work in the healthcare field. He received credit for 180 days served in the county jail.

Finley’s case is still open. Her trial was continued to Aug. 24.

Australia Welcomes Last ‘ISIS Bride’ Home: Tony Burke Confirms Repatriation

0

An Australian woman, previously barred from entering the country due to potential security threats and her association with the self-declared Islamic State (IS), will now be allowed to return home from Syria.

This Australian national, known as the last of the so-called “ISIS brides” trapped abroad, will undergo stringent surveillance upon her return to Australia.

A temporary exclusion order had been placed on her due to fears she might present a serious security threat. However, Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke announced that the government has now granted her and her child a permit to re-enter the country.

“The temporary exclusion order remains until a permit is issued, and when one is requested, it is legally mandated that it must be granted,” Burke explained to ABC Radio on Thursday.

She is among a group who traveled to Syria during IS’s ascent and returned to Australia earlier in 2026, with several members now facing charges related to crimes against humanity.

Advocates for the cohort say some were coerced into travelling but others went knowingly into the terrorism hot zone.

In February, Burke imposed an exclusion order of up to two years on the final woman in the cohort, who left her home in western Sydney in 2015 and travelled to Syria.

The government will monitor where the woman lives, works, studies and travels, and she will need to give 24-hour notice before using any telecommunications device or logging on to social media.

“There will be a very high level of scrutiny and surveillance, and we have gone absolutely to the legal limit that we’re able to,” Burke said.

ASIO boss Mike Burgess confirmed his agency was involved in the process of approving the woman’s return, and said he was satisfied authorities were prepared.

“The full use of my organisation’s capability and powers will be used when this individual returns to this country,” he told ABC Radio.

“When there are Australians who have been overseas in places like Syria and Iraq who represent security concerns, we assess them, we know the level of risk, and anyone who’s considered a high or medium risk gets my agency’s full attention,” Burgess said.

Opposition defence spokesperson James Paterson said the government had failed at every turn to manage the issue and protect the Australian community.

“It was a rather tortured explanation from the Minister for Home Affairs, Tony Burke, about why this wasn’t his fault,” he told Sky News.

“The bottom line is the Albanese Labor government has issued a return permit to a member of ISIS, an affiliate of ISIS to return to our country, who was previously blocked from returning to our country.”

Adapted from the work of acclaimed thriller and crime author Harlan Coben, Netflix presents yet another gripping series, “I Will Find You.” Curious about the storyline and seeking similar content for your watchlist after diving into this drama? We’ve got all the answers.

In “I Will Find You,” Sam Worthington, famed for his role in “Avatar,” takes on the character of David Burroughs. This time, he’s far removed from the blue allure as he portrays a man wrongly accused of the horrific murder of his son, Matthew. As David serves time in a Maine prison, his former sister-in-law, Rachel Mills—played by Emmy recipient Britt Lower of “Severance” fame—pays a visit. She shares a photo of a boy identical to Matthew, albeit older, prompting David to embark on a quest to seek out his possibly alive son and clear his name. With Rachel’s assistance, the story kicks off with David’s daring escape from prison in search of the truth.

Finished binge-watching “I Will Find You” and yearning for more riveting crime dramas? You’re in luck. We have a selection of series that echo themes of the wrongly accused and gripping tales of missing children. Discover five heart-pounding, emotionally charged, and utterly engrossing shows perfect for your next marathon session.

Defending Jacob

One such recommendation is “Defending Jacob,” an Apple TV series also inspired by a best-selling novel. This legal drama, adapted from William Landay’s 2012 novel, is crafted under the guidance of showrunner Mark Bomback, celebrated for “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” and director Morten Tyldum, known for “The Imitation Game.” Released in 2020, the miniseries stars Marvel hero Chris Evans as Andy Barber, an assistant district attorney whose life is thrown into turmoil when his 14-year-old son Jacob, portrayed by Jaeden Martell, becomes the prime suspect in a murder case. Faced with this crisis, Andy and his wife Laurie, played by Michelle Dockery, navigate the murky waters of parental love and doubt.

“Defending Jacob” boasts a stellar supporting cast, including talents like Cherry Jones, Pablo Schreiber, and the Academy Award winner J.K. Simmons. This unsettling exploration of a family’s quest for answers culminates in a harrowing discovery, pushing them to confront a truth that might be better left hidden. The dramatic twist at the series’ conclusion promises to leave you both speechless and on the edge of your seat.

Presumed Innocent

You might remember the 1990 movie, “Presumed Innocent,” which is an adaptation of Scott Turow’s book of the same name and stars Harrison Ford and Brian Dennehy — and if you’re a fan of that film, you should check out the Apple TV adaptation that released in 2024. In the first season of the small-screen version of “Presumed Innocent,” which has become an anthology series that adapts different crime thrillers throughout each season, we meet Jake Gyllenhaal’s Rusty Sabich, a prosecutor who finds himself in hot water after he’s accused of having an affair with and subsequently murdering one of his coworkers, Carolyn Polhemus (future Oscar nominee and “Backrooms” star Renate Reinsve). As the people in Rusty’s life, including his scorned wife Barbara (Ruth Negga), his daughter Jaden (Chase Infiniti) and his attorney Raymond Horgan (Bill Camp) try to unravel precisely what happened to Carolyn, you’ll find yourself completely hooked as the entire mystery unfolds.

“Presumed Innocent” is yet another fantastic legal thriller from Apple TV, and as an anthology, you might even see one of your favorite thriller books adapted for this Emmy-nominated series at some point. If “I Will Find You” left you guessing and gasping, you’ll definitely love “Presumed Innocent.”

Mare of Easttown

Armed with a Delaware County accent, a low ponytail, and a ton of flannels and hoodies, Kate Winslet brings the lead character Mare Sheehan to life in the critically adored HBO series “Mare of Easttown” — and it’s perfect for fans of “I Will Find You.” When we first meet Mare, she’s reopening a cold case concerning the murder of a teenage girl, only to be thrown into a new case when a different teenage girl goes missing. Worse still, the newly missing girl, Erin McMenamin (a pre-“Civil War” and “Priscilla” Cailee Spaeny) was a single mother, and there are a lot of questions about the identity of the baby’s father.

As she investigates these cases — aided by Detective Colin Zobel (a phenomenal Evan Peters), a detective for the county who’s called in to work Erin’s missing persons case in the fictional town of Easttown, Pennsylvania — Mare grapples with her own trauma. Years before the series begins, Mare tragically lost her son Kevin, who died by suicide and left behind his girlfriend Carrie Layden (Sosie Bacon) and a baby, so all of Mare’s work, subsequently, feels too close to home. With an unbelievable supporting cast that includes Jean Smart, David Denman, Neil Huff, Julianne Nicholson, and Guy Pearce, “Mare of Easttown” is one of the most beloved HBO shows in recent memory … and if you want twists and turns like the ones in “I Will Find You,” this show will certainly do the trick.

Safe

If you’re a fan of author Harlan Coben — and that’s exactly why you watched “I Will Find You” — it’s definitely worth checking out his entire collection of Netflix adaptations. If we had to choose one to watch after “I Will Find You,” though, we’re going with “Safe,” which came out in 2018 and stars “Dexter” veteran Michael C. Hall as Tom Delaney, a surgeon mourning the shocking death of his wife while also trying to parent his two daughters as a single dad. When one of his daughters, 16-year-old Jenny (Amy James-Kelly), goes missing after going to a friend’s party, Tom springs into action and tries to find her … with the help of his neighbor and lover Sophie Mason (Amanda Abbington), a woman whose relationship with Tom has irked both of his daughters (but Jenny in particular). To make matters worse, Jenny’s boyfriend Chris Chahal (Freddie Thorp) is also missing.

Hall, Abbington, and their fellow performers Marc Warren, Audrey Fleurot, Hannah Arterton, Amy-Leigh Hickman, and Hero Fiennes-Tiffin, just to name a few, really sell the wild, twisty plot of “Safe,” and it’s well worth a watch. Whether you’ve read every single Coben novel or you’re a newcomer to his work, “Safe” is, well, a safe bet.

All Her Fault

Based on Irish novelist Andrea Mara’s best-selling novel of the same name, the Peacock miniseries “All Her Fault” serves as Emmy-winning actress Sarah Snook’s return to the small screen after the overwhelming critical success of her HBO series “Succession.” Snook stars as Marissa Irvine, a very busy working mother who heads to a fellow mom’s house one afternoon to pick up her young son Milo (Duke McCloud), believing he’s at a playdate with one of his classmates. When she arrives at the house, she finds an older woman who’s never heard of her or Milo, and worse still, Milo is nowhere to be found. Terrified and shaken to her core, Marissa and her husband Peter (Jake Lacy), aided by Peter’s sister Lia (Abby Elliott) and Marissa’s best friend and business partner Colin Dobbs (Jay Ellis), search for Milo … and uncover something truly horrifying.

“All Her Fault” is enthralling from beginning to end, has an absolutely sensational cast — aside from everyone we’ve already listed, Michael Peña and Dakota Fanning also play massive, key roles, and they’re both phenomenal — and you have to see the ending to believe it. If you love “I Will Find You,” you’ll definitely love “All Her Fault.”

As for “I Will Find You,” it’s streaming on Netflix now.

Greeneville Armed Robbery Suspect Captured and Arrested

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (WJHL) – Authorities have apprehended a man in connection with an armed heist at a neighborhood store in Greeneville on Tuesday.

GPD reports that Saylor allegedly arrived at the market in a 2015 Honda CRV. Wearing dark attire, a full-face mask, and gray utility gloves, he supposedly brandished a shotgun, demanding cash from the store clerk.

Through their investigation, the GPD was able to identify David Saylor as the perpetrator. He was subsequently located and taken into custody at the Greeneville Police Department.

Police executed a search warrant at Saylor’s house, during which deputies found a firearm along with other evidence related to the robbery.

GPD placed Saylor under arrest for aggravated robbery and taken to Greene County Detention Center.

He is being held on an $80,000 bond and set to appear in court for arraignment on June 26.

Harlan Coben’s Netflix Thrillers: Viewership Soars Despite Critics’ Mixed Reviews

Two men standing in front of a body of water in Netflix's 'I Will Find You'

TV

Netflix’s latest adaptation of a Harlan Coben bestseller has struck a chord with its audience, despite receiving lukewarm critical reception.

The streaming giant’s newest sensation has its roots in the creative genius of renowned author Harlan Coben.

I Will Find You, which debuted on June 18, has swiftly ascended the ranks to become one of Netflix’s most-viewed shows. Garnering a staggering 24 million views in just four days, it stands as the platform’s most successful series launch of the year.

‘I Will Find You’ joins list of Netflix’s successful Harlan Coben shows

The success of I Will Find You – which stars Sam Worthington as a father serving a life sentence for murdering his son, whom he learns may still be alive – is not a huge surprise. The eight-episode series is Netflix’s 13th partnership with Coben.

Coben’s twisty tales of crime and deceit have proven to be catnip to Netflix viewers. In 2024, Fool Me Once was one of the streamer’s most-watched shows, with 98 million views in the first three months after its release. Run Away, which was released earlier this year, had 38 million views. Other Coben shows on Netflix include Safe, Stay Close, and Gone for Good.

I WIll Find You (which also features Milo Ventimiglia and Severance’s Britt Lower) is the first Coben adaptation for Netflix that is set in the U.S. The other shows were either U.K. productions or filmed in various European countries in the local language, including French, Spanish, and Polish.

While Netflix’s Harlan Coben collection is a hit with subscribers, critics have been less enthralled. I Will Find You has a middling 62% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with reviews describing the show as “ridiculous,” “convoluted,” and “ludicrous.”

Those gripes are not unusual complaints about the fast-paced thrillers based on Coben’s popular novels. (He’s sold more than 80 million books worldwide.) His shows tend to begin with an intriguing premise – often an unexplained disappearance – frequently involving a cast of characters living in an idyllic suburban community. Dark secrets will be exposed, and there will be some jaw-dropping twists. The limited series format makes each an easy binge. Viewers can easily watch the whole show in one weekend, especially when episode-ending cliffhangers encourage them to stay parked in front of the screen. While they might not be high art, each series is competently made and entertaining.

“Their steady output speaks to their popularity far more than their footprint — a tragically common trend in modern Hollywood, where being a viewer’s second screen is often the studio’s first priority,” noted IndieWire’s Ben Travers of the steady stream of Coben adaptations.

In other words, Netflix subscribers should expect more Coben adaptations in the future. A English-language version of The Woods is set for 2027 (a Polish-language version premiered in 2020). Plus, a show based on Coben’s Myron Bolitar series of novels about a sports agent who solves crimes is also in the works.

Explore the Hidden Undercroft: Lincoln Memorial Unveils 15,000-Square-Foot Space to Visitors

0

Beneath the solemn gaze of former President Abraham Lincoln lies a hidden marvel, poised to welcome the public this Thursday. After being shrouded in mystery for a century, this secret underneath the Lincoln Memorial on Washington D.C.’s National Mall is set to be revealed through a captivating video from the US Department of the Interior.

The highlight of this unveiling is the Lincoln Memorial Undercroft, an expansive 15,000-square-foot museum that rests directly beneath the famed monument. This historical treasure trove will be accessible to the public free of charge, though advance reservations are necessary to experience this unique site.

For the past 100 years, the vast chamber beneath the memorial has been empty, structurally resembling a mammoth “two-story shopping mall.” This cavernous space is propped up by an intricate grid of 122 massive concrete pillars, remaining unseen by the public until now.

The ambitious project to reveal this undercroft to the world was made possible through a generous backing of $26 million in federal funds coupled with a significant $48 million contribution from the National Park Foundation. It has been in the pipeline for a decade, with the major construction work commencing in 2023 as noted by Julie Moore, the vice president of communications with the Trust for the National Mall.

Today, beneath the immortalized likeness of the 16th president, visitors will find a striking glass-enclosed exhibit that appears to hover within the massive foundation of the Lincoln Memorial, offering a rare glimpse into a concealed chapter of American history.

The highly anticipated museum features interactive physical displays, multimedia video presentations and a bookstore.

Among the most exciting historical treasures on display are original copies of the Emancipation Proclamation and the 13th Amendment, complete with Lincoln’s signature, according to the Department of the Interior.

Visitors will also get a unique glimpse into the memorial’s construction, featuring historical tools and authentic graffiti left behind by original workers in the 1920s.

Beyond its physical foundations, Moore said, the undercroft tells the story of how the Lincoln Memorial evolved into America’s “civic stage.”

Exhibits highlight the site’s profound role in civil rights history, memorializing historic events like Marian Anderson’s 1939 concert and the March on Washington.

Advance reservations can be made through recreation.gov or by calling 877-444-6777.

Visitors can book up to 30 days in advance, or get walk-up tickets on a first-come, first-served basis daily at 8:45 a.m. local time at the nearby Korean War Veterans Memorial kiosk.

Frustrated Woman Allegedly Brandishes Gun Over Taco Bell Delay, Challenges Staff to Fight

In Maryland, a woman allegedly challenged Taco Bell employees to “meet her outside” after showing frustration with the wait time for her order. During the confrontation, she reportedly revealed a handgun by lifting her shirt and placed her hand on its grip.

Authorities in Queen Anne’s County reported that Ashley Andrews, aged 30, was detained on June 18. The arrest followed an incident at a Taco Bell in Chester, Maryland, where Andrews allegedly brandished a firearm during an altercation with the restaurant’s staff.

Restaurant employees informed the deputies that Andrews grew agitated over the delay in receiving her food, demanding they follow her outside. She allegedly revealed her firearm during the encounter, using language perceived as threatening.

When deputies arrived, they detained Andrews and another individual from her group who authorities said was involved in an ongoing verbal dispute. Authorities said a loaded firearm was recovered from Andrews’ person.

Investigators later reviewed surveillance video and personal video recorded by an employee that appeared to support the workers’ account, according to the sheriff’s office.

NFL Player Faces Potential Life Sentence Following Arrest for Robbery and Kidnapping

Terrion Arnold, a prominent player for the Detroit Lions, has found himself embroiled in serious legal trouble following his alleged involvement in a kidnapping and robbery incident in Tampa this past February. The NFL star is now confronted with charges that could result in a life sentence if he is convicted.

The Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office has made it known that they intend to press charges against Arnold. He is slated to face the judicial system for the first time on Thursday at his initial court appearance.

On Wednesday, Arnold surrendered himself to authorities, and prosecutors are planning to argue that he remains in custody. Their intention is to keep him behind bars while awaiting trial due to the severity of the charges.

In a statement from the State Attorney’s Office, it was clarified, “Arnold is facing multiple felony charges which carry a potential sentence of up to life in prison.” The office is preparing to file a pretrial detention motion to ensure the young NFL player remains incarcerated pending trial.

According to the details provided by state attorneys, the 23-year-old cornerback is accused of being the mastermind behind the operation, allegedly organizing and leading several co-defendants to ensnare three men at an apartment. Once there, the victims were reportedly subjected to being robbed, beaten, and threatened at gunpoint.

Prosecutors went on to claim that Arnold believed the victims stole more than $200,000 worth of his personal items during a stat in his AirBNB property. The 2024 first-round draft pick claimed he lost $100,000 in cash, an $80,000 necklace and a cellphone issued to him by the Lions.

The Florida State Attorney’s Office trumpeted Arnold’s arrest on Wednesday evening

However, prosecutors claim, there is no evidence proving Arnold’s alleged victims were involved in the theft.

Arnold is specifically accused of orchestrating the kidnapping and robbery ‘just hours’ after reporting the missing items to the Largo (Florida) Police Department.

Arnold has denied the allegations through his agent, Denise White of EAG Sports Management, who said her client ‘maintains his innocence’ and ‘categorically denies any involvement.’

‘There is no credible evidence linking Mr. Arnold to these allegations,’ read White’s staement. ‘Instead, the government appears to be relying on testimony from multiple convicted felons who have admitted their own involvement and may have substantial incentives to shift blame in an effort to lessen their sentences.
