UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer Announces Resignation Plans

0

On Monday, Sir Keir Starmer announced his decision to step down from his role as the UK Prime Minister, clearing the path for MP Andy Burnham, the recent victor of parliamentary elections, to assume the position.

At the age of 63, Starmer detailed his resignation plan, driven by escalating pressures following significant losses in the previous month’s local elections, where the Labour Party ceded over 1,000 council seats.

Speaking from outside the iconic 10 Downing Street in London, Starmer stated, “I have listened to the verdict of my parliamentary colleagues, and I accept their view with humility and respect.”

Starmer reflected on his tenure, stating, “Every decision I’ve made has prioritized the nation I cherish. This conviction underpins my reason to resign as the leader of the Labour Party. This morning, I informed His Majesty the King of my decision.”

He further confirmed that the nomination process for selecting a new leader will commence on July 9 and aims to be finalized before the summer recess.

He said he will remain in post until a new leader is either elected by Labour members – or chosen by MPs.

Starmer’s voice cracked with emotion as he concluded his speech — thanking his wife, Victoria, for being a “rock … in good times and bad.”

“When I leave the biggest job in the country, I shall spend more time on the most important job, being the best husband I can to my fantastic wife Vic,” he said. “And being the best dad I can to my beautiful children who are my pride and joy.”

Starmer spent the past weekend at the Prime Minister’s country retreat of Chequers, considering his future in light of Burnham’s storming win in last week’s Makerfield by-election.

He had previously vowed to fight any leadership election in the wake of Burnham’s victory before realizing the game was up, according to a senior Labour figure.

“What he rightly wants to avoid is humiliation, but the worst humiliation for Keir personally would be if he stands in a leadership election and is heavily beaten,” they told Reuters.

Labour suffered devastating losses across England’s post-industrial heartlands, where they were routed by Nigel Farage’s insurgent Reform UK Party.

Labour also lost more than 450 seats in London alone — with the left-wing Green Party making gains in what were Labour strongholds.

Labour was also swamped in Scotland and Wales, losing control of the latter’s devolved parliament — the Senedd — for the first time since its creation in 1999.

Starmer suffered a wave of resignations in the wake of the local elections drubbing.

Health Secretary Wes Streeting resigned after admitting he had lost confidence in Starmer’s leadership — and blasted the Prime Minister for a lack of vision.

“But where we need vision, we have a vacuum. Where we need direction, we have drift,” he wrote in his resignation letter.

Just last week, Starmer lost his Defense Secretary John Healey over the government’s defense investment plan.

“You have been unable, and the Treasury has been unwilling, to commit the resources that the nation needs to defend the country at this time of rising threats,” Healey told Starmer.

Starmer’s popularity has plunged after repeated missteps and U-turns on policies such as welfare reform, as well as his disastrous decision to appoint Peter Mandelson, a scandal-tarnished friend of Jeffrey Epstein, as Britain’s ambassador to Washington.

The Labour government, elected in a landslide in 2024, has also failed to deliver promised economic growth and ease a longstanding cost-of-living crisis.

France on High Alert: Europe Braces for Unprecedented Heatwave

0

IN BRIEF

A severe heatwave gripping Europe is compelling authorities to enforce new measures, broadcast advisories, and adjust everyday practices as temperatures soar toward unprecedented levels.

France is bracing for peak temperatures reaching 41°C, with 35 out of its 96 departments anticipated to be placed under red heatwave warnings, spanning from the southwest, through Paris, and reaching Burgundy.

Following a crisis meeting, French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu revealed measures to limit alcohol consumption at public gatherings, including the widespread Fête de la Musique festivities across the regions facing the heatwave.

In addition, Parisian authorities have mandated that public parks remain open 24/7 to provide a respite for residents seeking relief from the oppressive temperatures.

Restrictions and warnings spread across Europe

Elsewhere, heat alerts were issued across most of Germany as temperatures approached 38C.

Germany’s national weather service warned that a combination of high temperatures and humidity could increase the risk of severe thunderstorms.

In Spain, authorities closed a World Cup fan zone in Madrid’s Plaza de Colón that had been set up with giant screens for supporters to watch Spain’s match against Saudi Arabia.

Parts of Spain remain under heat warnings, with some outdoor sporting and cultural activities suspended.

In Italy, authorities expanded heat warnings across several cities as temperatures pushed into the high 30s.

Daily life reshaped by extreme heat

Across southern Europe, the heat has reportedly begun altering how residents and tourists move through cities.

In Rome, visitors queued in the sun outside the Colosseum while others sought relief in cooler underground spaces beneath the remains of the Temple of Claudius.

In Bologna, among Italy’s hottest cities, people cooled off at the Fountain of Neptune and sheltered beneath shaded porticoes.

Transport networks and public services have also adjusted.

French authorities increased staffing across rail services amid concerns that extreme temperatures could affect infrastructure, including tracks and electrical systems.

Officials have also tightened monitoring around water supplies and bushfire conditions.

The government ordered hundreds of schools to close ahead of expected peak temperatures.

Heatwaves carry growing economic and health costs

Scientists say climate change is making heatwaves more frequent and intense across Europe, increasing risks to public health and economic activity.

Bank of France governor Emmanuel Moulin said the short-term impact on growth was mixed, with reduced productivity offset in part by higher energy demand, but warned that prolonged periods of extreme heat weigh on economies over time.

Health authorities have also renewed warnings around heat exhaustion and heat stroke, particularly for older people and vulnerable communities.

The heatwave comes more than two decades after France’s deadly 2003 summer, which claimed around 15,000 lives and changed the country’s approach to managing extreme heat.

Gisele Omits Tom Brady in Father’s Day Tribute

Gisele Bundchen seemingly aimed a subtle critique at her former husband, Tom Brady, through her Father’s Day message shared on Sunday.

The 45-year-old supermodel is the mother of a 16-year-old son, Benjamin, and a 13-year-old daughter, Vivian, with the 48-year-old NFL icon. The two officially ended their 13-year marriage in 2022.

Celebrating the day on Instagram, Bundchen chose to omit Brady’s mention from her touching tribute. Instead, she focused on her current husband, Joaquim Valente, whom she welcomed a son with in February 2025.

The Brazilian model expressed: ‘Happy Father’s Day @joaquimvalente! Thanks for setting a stellar example and for the values you uphold – love, humility, integrity, discipline, kindness, and consistency.’

‘You are an outstanding role model. We are incredibly grateful for you, and we love you tremendously.’

She added: ‘And dad, thank you for your unconditional love, wisdom, and support through every stage of my life,’ before ending: ‘Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there.’

The timing of Bundchen’s post comes just weeks after Brady marked Mother’s Day with a series of Instagram tributes celebrating the mothers in his life – including his ex-wife.

Brady has yet to publicly respond to her Father’s Day message.

The former NFL star also shares son Jack, 17, with ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan.

Bundchen tied the knot with the jiu-jitsu instructor on December 3, almost a year after the pair welcomed their son.

According to sources speaking to ET, the ceremony was deliberately low-key, with only close family members present.

‘It was simple and beautiful,’ an insider said, noting that the couple’s infant son, who was 11 months old at the time, was also there.

Another source told People that Bundchen made a conscious decision to keep the occasion completely private.

‘Gisele is tired of all of the attention on her private life,’ the person explained. ‘She just wants to do things her own way – and a small, private non-event was what she wanted.’

While the model has not publicly shared her baby boy’s name or shown his face, friends previously revealed to the Daily Mail that his middle name is River.

In April last year, residents of her Miami neighbourhood spoke to Page Six about her quiet life in the compact Surfside enclave, which spans just 0.564 square miles.

One local said: ‘People have seen her around. But she sticks to her street, which feels like a private road and ends in a cul-de-sac. I’ve never seen her at the community pool, which is only open to Surfside residents, or at the local Publix.’

The resident added that the area is used to celebrity neighbours, including Ivanka Trump.

‘Surfside is the least starstruck community in Miami. Gisele is just another mom in the neighborhood,’ they said.

A wellness devotee, Bündchen is also known to frequent Reforming Pilates in Bay Harbor Islands.

One fellow gym-goer shared: ‘She’s super quiet, and never draws attention to herself.

‘She takes the last reformer in the back and doesn’t linger after class. I can tell she doesn’t like attention being drawn to her. She’s naturally beautiful in person, it’s like she’s glowing.’

Bundchen and Valente first began dating in June 2023, after initially meeting when he was brought on as her martial arts trainer.

The former couple’s split in 2022 came after months of reported tension behind the scenes, despite Bundchen and Brady’s carefully maintained public image.

At the time, sources claimed that growing disagreements over lifestyle choices and family priorities had placed increasing strain on the marriage.

Brady’s continued focus on his NFL career and demanding playing schedule was also frequently cited as a key factor in the breakdown of their relationship.

The Intricate Love Life of Johnny Cash Revealed

While country tunes often celebrate love, some of its top artists have revealed their darker sides, particularly when it comes to romantic entanglements. They may perform duets filled with harmony on stage, yet behind the curtain, the story can be more tangled. Take Johnny Cash, for example, the so-called “Man in Black” whose turbulent relationship history became nearly as legendary as his enduring musical legacy.

From a rocky first marriage to a deep connection with a fellow country star, Cash’s journey in love is storied in the annals of music history. Despite his personal ups and downs, the “Ring of Fire” vocalist also penned some of the most memorable country ballads, including the aptly named “A Thing Called Love.” In its lyrics, he encapsulates the transformative power of love: “It can lift you up never let you down / Take your world and turn it around / Ever since time nothing’s ever been found / That’s stronger than love” (via Genius).

Johnny Cash’s first marriage to Vivian Liberto spanned continents

In 1951, a youthful Johnny Cash encountered Vivian Liberto from San Antonio, Texas, at a skating rink, marking the beginning of their immediate connection. Just three weeks into their dating, Cash was deployed to Germany with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Despite the distance, their relationship grew through intimate love letters, which, much to the post office workers’ frustration, they exchanged regularly. As Cash expressed to Liberto, “Those people probably thought they were just the average run-of-the-mill love letters, but they’re priceless to me,” adding, “I love you Viv honey. I love you so very, very much” (via All That’s Interesting).

The 4th of July in 1954 brought the long-awaited reunion of Cash and Liberto upon his return from service. Reminiscing in her memoir, “I Walked the Line: My Life With Johnny”, Liberto recalled, “I just fell into his arms, he scooped me up, and we kissed,” (via ABC). The couple married just over a month later, embarking on a life filled with personal and professional challenges. During this period, Cash also auditioned for iconic producer Sam Phillips at Memphis’s renowned Sun Records. As his career soared, the family, which soon numbered five, navigated the complex interplay of fame and personal trials.

Johnny Cash’s arrest and adultery sparked the demise of his first marriage

By 1958, Johnny Cash was a bona fide star who continually toured the country with his music. Meanwhile, wife Vivian Liberto and their daughters remained at home in California. In the absence of his family unit, Cash joined the ranks of the most unfaithful stars in music. His increasing abuse of drugs and alcohol also began to tear away at the family unit.

During those initial years in California, Liberto began to sense the downfall of their union. “[E]verything, and I mean everything, started to fall apart,” she wrote in her memoir “I Walked the Line: My Life With Johnny.” While on the road, Cash went on drinking binges and abused pills, acting out to the point of attracting police attention. His drug arrest in 1965 became one of the final straws, especially considering that Liberto had started getting hints from those around them about her husband’s infidelity. She also found receipts that proved his lavish spending on gifts and other luxuries. “She’d say, ‘If I only could have traveled with him instead of being here raising four kids, things would have been different,'” Liberto’s friend Alice Smith recalled (via Ventura County Star).

Everything changed when Johnny Cash met June Carter

In what became one of the most scandalous affairs in music history, Johnny Cash and June Carter’s coupling played a huge part in the end of Cash’s first marriage to Vivian Liberto. While Cash and Carter’s relationship also went through its own tumultuous times, their stars continued to rise at an exponential level.

Carter herself was skeptical about her feelings for Cash, though this ultimately didn’t stop her from succumbing. “I didn’t want to fall in love with him, didn’t mean to fall in love with him,” she revealed in archival footage featured in the documentary “June” (via Country Living). “I was scared to death of him. … I wouldn’t even admit it to myself for a long time.” Those feelings ultimately inspired her to co-write what became one of Cash’s most iconic songs, “Ring of Fire.” As for Cash? He was head over heels for Carter from the start. “You influence me for the better,” he once wrote to Carter in one of their now infamous love letters (via Rolling Stone). “You’re the object of my desire, the #1 Earthly reason for my existence.”

While some accounts of their relationship have portrayed it as a star-crossed affair (including the Oscar-winning film “Walk the Line”), Liberto herself has refuted the idea that it was quite so happy-go-lucky. Recalling a backstage encounter between the two women, Liberto reportedly said that Carter was less than angelic. “[Liberto] wanted people to know June went after Johnny,” said Ann Sharpsteen, who co-authored Liberto’s memoir with her (via Ventura County Star). “That was where most of her pain and anger rested all these years.”

June Carter Cash endured years of heartache over Johnny Cash’s drug problems

Throughout their 35-year marriage, Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash had their fair share of issues. Cash’s ongoing drug problem continued to worsen, and by the 1980s, his career was experiencing a lull — along with their financial stability. “I have a terminal disease called chemical dependency,” Cash told Christian Broadcasting Network. He also told The New York Times, “There is that beast there in me. And I got to keep him caged, or he’ll eat me alive.” For Carter Cash, it wasn’t just her husband’s demons that needed fighting; she herself battled a pill addiction and was a serial shopper, according to the pair’s son, John Carter Cash.

Cash entered the Betty Ford Center in 1983 for rehabilitation before eventually finding religion again and reaffirming his Christian faith. But no matter what they faced, together or apart, they chose to address those issues together. “They were long-suffering, always forgiving, open-minded, willing to look over past pains,” John Carter Cash told JohnnyCash.com. “As a result, their love lasted a long time.”

Though Cash himself was credited with writing great love letters, Carter Cash has continually been recognized for her patience and unyielding love for the singer. “The fact she always stood by him is a real testament toward their feelings for each other,” J.J. Blair, who produced Carter Cash’s album “Press On,” told Closer. “What I find most inspiring is that they had issues, but they continued to work through them and they stayed committed.”

Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash’s kids had mixed reactions to their parents’ romance on the silver screen

Johnny Cash had four children with Vivian Liberto and another child with June Carter Cash. He also became a stepfather to Carter’s two daughters from previous relationships. The siblings could arguably be counted among the many troubled children of country music stars. There was a lot of discord over their blended family’s portrayal in the Oscar-winning film “Walk the Line.” Starring Joaquin Phoenix as Cash, Reese Witherspoon as Carter Cash, and Ginnifer Goodwin as Vivian Liberto, the film portrays the two country singers as destined lovers with a Hollywood ending, and Liberto as the jilted ex-wife.

The film reportedly so perturbed Kathy Cash, whose mother is Liberto, that she walked out of a family-only screening five times due to her discomfort. “My mom was basically a nonentity in the entire film except for the mad little psycho who hated his career,” she told “Today.” “That’s not true. She loved his career and was proud of him until he started taking drugs and stopped coming home.” In general, its lack of accuracy disappointed her. “Anyone who wants a good sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll movie is gonna love it,” she shared with the outlet.

But not all of the Cash-Carter clan were as vehemently against the film. John Carter Cash, the music duo’s only child together, was more subdued, if not understanding, of the movie’s artistic license. “I’m compassionately understanding,” he told the outlet. “[T]he point of the film is my parents’ love affair.”

Vivian Liberto’s side of the story was eventually revealed

Along with a memoir released after her death, Vivian Liberto’s tale was told in her own film — this time a documentary. “My Darling Vivian” premiered in 2020 and shared the story of her and Johnny Cash’s 12-year marriage. All four of their daughters were main figures in the film. Singer Rosanne Cash shared particularly poignant moments of her childhood, her memories of her father’s drug problem, and reflections on her mother’s role in their relationship. “She was a very private person and was not prepared for all of the attention and public life,” she shared in the film (via Facebook). “And my dad’s notoriety and fame, there was nothing in her past that would have prepared her for that.”

The film also detailed the aftermath of Cash’s 1965 arrest for amphetamine possession. Upon his release, Liberto flew to Texas to support him. After seeing photographs of Cash’s wife in the news, many assumed that the Sicilian-American was actually African-American. This was particularly troublesome due to the illegal nature of mixed-race marriages and corresponding racism in several states at the time.

Backlash against Liberto triggered a fear so strong that Cash himself released official documentation proving his wife’s race. “The stress was almost unbearable,” Liberto wrote in her memoir, “I Walked the Line: My Life With Johnny” (via The Seattle Times). “I wanted to die. And it didn’t help that Johnny issued a statement to the KKK informing them I wasn’t Black.”

Johnny Cash, June Carter Cash, and Vivian Cash all died in the span of two years

Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash are counted among the celeb couples who died close together. When Carter Cash died from complications after heart surgery in 2003, a devastated Cash lasted a handful of months before dying of complications from diabetes later that same year.

Cash made his last public performance in the summer before his death, when he claimed that Carter Cash’s spirit was still with him. “The spirit of June Carter overshadows me tonight,” he told the crowd (via Rolling Stone). “With the love she had for me and the love I have for her … she came down for a short visit, I guess, from Heaven, to visit with me tonight to give me courage and inspiration, like she always has.”

As for Vivian Liberto, she died in 2005 after complications from lung surgery. She notably visited her ex-husband at his Tennessee home just after Carter Cash’s death. While Cash reportedly never apologized to her for his behavior during their marriage, it seems like the two were on somewhat amicable terms before the end of their lives. During her visit, Liberto reportedly told Cash that she was writing a book about their relationship and family (via Ventura County Star). His response? “What took you so long?”

It’s not all bad blood between Johnny Cash’s kids and their stepmother

Despite the circumstances around the dissolution of their parents’ marriage, Johnny Cash and Vivian Liberto’s children don’t seem to have any ill will toward their stepmother, June Carter. In fact, Rosanne Cash, the eldest Cash child, even delivered the eulogy at Carter’s funeral. “She was forever lifting people up,” the singer-songwriter shared (via Country Living). “It took me a long time to understand that what she did when she lifted you up was to mirror the very best parts of you back to yourself.”

Rosanne Cash has praised both her biological and stepmother, crediting them both for contributing to the way she carries out her life and career. “I had two really good examples from women in my life,” she explained in Ken Burns’ docuseries “Country Music” (via People). “My mom gave me this powerful sense of discipline, family, mothering, and detail orientation. And June gave me this sense of expansiveness and how to live life as a performer.”

For John Carter Cash, the only son in the Cash clan, his appreciation for his family lends itself to the pride he feels in maintaining the family name’s legacy. “The honest thing is that my parents wanted to help people,” he told Reuters. “That is part of my responsibility, to carry on that legacy.”

LAUSD Superintendent Carvalho Steps Down Following FBI Investigation

0

Los Angeles Unified School District’s Superintendent Alberto Carvalho has stepped down, marking his departure roughly four months following an FBI search of his residence and office amid an investigation into alleged fraud and corruption.

Carvalho, after serving a little over four years, announced his immediate resignation on Sunday, according to a report by the Los Angeles Times.

“Serving you has been an immense privilege,” the 61-year-old expressed in his message that was accessed by the publication.

He highlighted that during his tenure, significant advances have been achieved collectively that favorably impacted students, educators, staff, and the broader community.

In the letter directed to the LAUSD, Carvalho emphasized that he wished to avoid becoming a “distraction” for the students.

“Placing students first has always guided my work,” he said.

He made no direct reference to the ongoing FBI investigation, which sources revealed is linked to a corruption scandal from a botched AI education company, and LAUSD officials say a statement will be issued later.

The former leader of the nation’s second-largest district, who was on a salary of $440,000, has been on paid leave for almost four months.

LA Board of Education members voted on Feb. 27 by a margin of 7-0 to put him on leave.

The unanimous verdict came just two days after raids were executed at his $2.5 million San Pedro home, his office at LAUSD headquarters in downtown Los Angeles, and another location in Miami tied to the probe.

Agents armed with long rifles swooped on the San Pedro home before the Portuguese-born official and his wife Maria Florio Borgia Carvalho were handcuffed and put into the back of a car, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Cellphones, computers and paper documents were seized by agents during the search.

School board members and staffers were ordered to leave the LAUSD headquarters while agents carried out their search.

In 2024, Carvalho, the former head of the Miami-Dade County Public Schools district, heavily touted an education technology company that developed an AI chatbot named “Ed” for the Los Angeles district to help students, calling it “a game changer.”

But less than three months after unveiling the technology and paying the company $3 million, the district dropped its dealings with AllHere, which collapsed into bankruptcy.

Months later, founder, Joanna Smith-Griffin, was charged with securities and wire fraud, along with identity theft. Carvalho was not named in this investigation.

The Florida raid happened at the home of Debra Kerr, a successful salesperson who has clients including AllHere.

Carvalho, a former Superintendent of the Year in 2014, has not been charged with any crime and the LAUSD said it was cooperating with investigators.

“Mr. Carvalho respects the rule of law and the investigative process and has always acted in the best interests of students and within the bounds of the law,” a spokesperson said.

“While the government’s investigation remains ongoing, no evidence has been presented by prosecutors supporting any allegation that Mr. Carvalho violated federal law.”

US Military Executes Strike on Vessel with Suspected Drug Traffickers, Resulting in Two Fatalities

0

On Sunday, the U.S. military reported executing a deadly operation against a boat in the Caribbean suspected of carrying drug traffickers, resulting in the deaths of two individuals.

According to the U.S. Southern Command, the mission involved a “lethal kinetic strike” against a vessel managed by groups identified as Designated Terrorist Organizations, following directives from the Southern Command’s commander, Marine Corps General Francis L. Donovan.

The military stated, based on gathered intelligence, that the ship was navigating well-known drug trafficking routes within the Caribbean while participating in narcotic smuggling operations.

Alongside the two fatalities, there were six men who survived the strike.

“Following the engagement, USSOUTHCOM immediately notified U.S. Coast Guard to activate the Search and Rescue system for the survivors,” the military said.

This is the latest attack that the Trump administration has said was launched in an attempt to eliminate alleged narco-terrorists, with the death toll in these strikes carried out since September sitting at more than 200.

The Pentagon has refused to release the identities of those killed in the strikes since last fall or provide evidence of drugs on board.

The administration has been scrutinized in recent months over the strikes by Democrats and even some Republicans, including Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., who has raised concerns about killing people without due process and the possibility of killing innocent people.

“I look at my colleagues who say they’re pro-life, and they value God’s inspiration in life, but they don’t give a s‑‑- about these people in the boats,” Paul said in January. “Are they terrible people in the boats? I don’t know. They’re probably poor people in Venezuela and Colombia.”

The senator previously cited Coast Guard statistics that show a significant percentage of boats boarded on suspicion of drug trafficking are innocent.

The attacks have also been denounced by human rights groups as “extrajudicial killings.”

Family mourns as concert accident victim identified as devoted father

The man who tragically fell to his death during a concert at Madison Square Garden, where he was with his wife, has been identified.

Paul Kueker, aged 51, fell 150 feet from the Chase Bridge while attending a Goose concert, just before 10 p.m. on Saturday.

In an emotional interview with the New York Post, Kueker’s bereaved mother, Patricia Finelli, tearfully described him as “the greatest kid in the whole wide world.”

She reflected on his generosity, saying, “He’d give you the shirt off his back.”

She also highlighted his devotion to family, remarking, “He has two children, a beautiful wife, and he took care of me like I was a piece of gold.”

The incident unfolded during the Connecticut band’s set on the second night of their two-show run at the iconic Manhattan venue.

According to the New York Police Department, officers responded to urgent reports of a fall inside the arena and found the man unconscious and unresponsive at 9.51pm.

Within moments, sections of seating were cordoned off as emergency responders made their way through the crowded venue.

Kueker was taken to Bellevue Hospital by an ambulance, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

One image of the aftermath, shared by a concertgoer, showed several seats caved in at the venue as police tape surrounded the scene.

The Chase Bridge where Kueker dropped from was constructed in 2013 and is suspended catwalk style.

Witnesses described seeing the moment Kueker fell from the upper level into a lower seating bowl.

‘Someone fell. They took him away on a stretcher. They’re not letting us back in our section. They’re going in with mops and re-seating us. I’m section 102,’ one witness wrote in a thread about the incident.

Another who said they were present at the moment of the fall wrote: ‘We were there, my friend saw him fall to the section below us.’

Police reported the investigation is still ongoing.

The rock fan, who worked as director of operations for the energy management’ company Smartcon Solutions, was with his wife at the fateful concert, Fox News reported.

‘We are heartbroken by the sudden passing of Paul Kueker,’ William Brown, the general manager of Smartcon, said in a statement.

‘Paul meant the world to everyone at Smartcon. He was an extraordinary person and a valued member of our team, and the loss is felt deeply across our entire company.

‘Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. He will be profoundly missed.’

Some attendees criticized the band for resuming the concert after stopping briefly when Kueker fell.

One Reddit user branded the band ‘insensitive’, writing: ‘People do not normally die during concerts. It’s insane they finished their set with just some roped off seats.’

The band later released a statement saying they were ‘heartbroken.’

Countdown to Decision Day: New York’s Congressional Hopefuls Make Their Final Pitch

NEW YORK (AP) — On the final full day before New York’s primary elections, congressional hopefuls are seizing the opportunity to sway voters. This election features a rising progressive movement challenging the traditional Democratic hold.

These contests have become a reflection of Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s influence, serving as an evaluation of whether the enthusiastic support he garnered last year can be harnessed to transform the city’s congressional lineup.

Mamdani has been vigorously supporting his trio of House candidates, using his prominence in several campaign advertisements and spearheading a rally with U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders just last week to give them an electoral edge.

“The old ways of the party won’t guide us forward. We require a Democratic Party with courage,” Mamdani declared.

In another hotly debated contest, Jack Schlossberg, at 33 and the grandson of former President John F. Kennedy, aims to leverage his renowned lineage and substantial online following to clinch a congressional seat representing a portion of Manhattan.

But the Kennedy scion is facing strong opposition from Alex Bores, a state Assembly member at the center of a Silicon Valley spending war over his proposals to regulate artificial intelligence, and Micah Lasher, another state Assembly member who has deep experience in New York government and is backed by many of the state’s Democratic leaders. George Conway, an attorney who was once married to a top Trump adviser but later become one of the president’s critics, is also in the race.

In his campaign’s closing stretch, Schlossberg rallied with David Letterman, former host of the “The Late Show with David Letterman.” His mother, Caroline Kennedy, cut a campaign ad for him. Lasher hit the street to meet voters. Bores releasing an ad about the dangers of AI and worked to highlight the millions of dollars that Big Tech players are spending to oppose his run.

Mamdani has not made an endorsement in that race.

Instead, he’s focused on three other congressional contests, including two featuring embattled incumbents.

Darializa Avila Chevalier, a democratic socialist whose campaign has been buoyed by the mayor’s support, is challenging U.S. Rep. Adriano Espaillat, who was the first Dominican American elected to Congress in a district that includes northern Manhattan and part of the Bronx.

Espaillat has drawn attention to inflammatory social media posts Avila Chevalier made in her 20s, attempting to portray her as an unserious candidate. Avila Chevalier, in a recent debate, said she regretted the posts and apologized for one crass post about former Vice President Kamala Harris.

Former city Comptroller Brad Lander got the mayor’s endorsement in his attempt to unseat U.S. Rep. Dan Goldman, a fellow Democrat.

Lander, who appeared in the crowd at a joyous City Hall ceremony celebrating the Knick’s NBA championship win on Thursday, has worked to play up his alliance with the mayor, while Goldman, who did not endorse Mamdani in his mayoral race, has tried to shift the conversation to his own productiveness in Congress.

Mamdani is also supporting Claire Valdez, a former state Assembly colleague and democratic socialist ally, in her bid to defeat Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso in the race to succeed retiring U.S. Rep. Nydia Velazquez.

Reynoso and Valdez are both progressives who share many similar views, though Valdez has framed herself as a potential Mamdani ally in Washington.

Fulani Man Speaks Out on Misconceptions: Why Most Fulanis Are Not to Blame for Insecurity

A Fulani individual has ignited discussions online by sharing his personal struggles with insecurity, highlighting the difficulties his community faces amidst escalating concerns over banditry and violence in various regions of Nigeria.

Fulani man says he is innocent

In a statement that has captured the attention of social media users, he revealed that many Fulani people endure the same fears of criminal acts and share in the security challenges that affect other Nigerian groups.

His comments emerge amid ongoing national debates about insecurity, including bandit attacks and kidnappings, as well as the perceptions of different ethnic groups concerning crime.

Speaking from a remote area, he detailed the anxiety and unpredictability he faces in his everyday life.

According to this Fulani man, the menace of insecurity recognizes no ethnic or social boundaries.

“The challenges we innocent Fulanis are facing are no different from those faced by others. I’m in the bush right now, and I’m scared of encountering bandits. We Fulanis face the same challenges as everyone else. Crime has no religion or tribe. About 95% of Fulanis are innocent.”

Growing debate on insecurity

The statement has generated reactions online, with many Nigerians discussing the broader impact of insecurity across communities.

Some commenters agreed that criminality should not be linked to an entire ethnic group, while others stressed the need for stronger security measures to protect citizens regardless of their background.

The remarks have added to ongoing conversations about security, ethnic profiling, and the need for collective efforts to address crime in Nigeria.

As insecurity remains a major concern, discussions continue on how communities can work together to promote peace and safety.

Israel Neutralizes Terrorist Commander Involved in Nir Oz Infiltration and Kidnapping During October 7 Massacre

In a decisive move on Friday, Israeli forces neutralized a militant from the Palestinian Islamic Jihad who had penetrated Kibbutz Nir Oz during the turmoil of October 7, 2023. The militant, identified as Zaki Youssef Mahmoud Abu Mustafa, was implicated in the kidnapping of Israeli civilian Yagil Yaakov.

The operation to eliminate Abu Mustafa was a concerted effort between the Israel Defense Forces and the Israel Security Agency and took place in the southern region of the Gaza Strip, as confirmed by the IDF on Sunday.

Recognized as a Nukhba commander within the Khan Yunis Brigade of PIJ, Abu Mustafa had been categorized as an imminent threat to Israeli military personnel stationed in the area, according to statements released by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

Abu Mustafa had been instrumental in the revival of PIJ’s military capacities in Gaza, an act that violated existing ceasefire agreements, stated the military. His activities included orchestrating multiple attacks against IDF soldiers and using Nasser Hospital as a platform for training terrorists, thus exploiting the facility for nefarious purposes.

Further evidence of his involvement, an image captured by Israeli forces, showed Abu Mustafa operating within Israeli borders during the abduction of Yaakov. This visual confirmation added to the dossier of threats associated with his activities.

The Israeli teenager spent 52 days in Gaza captivity before being released in November 2023. His father, Yair, was murdered on Oct. 7 and his body recovered from Gaza by the IDF.

In an additional strike, the IDF said it killed Mohammed Osama Abd al-Aziz Saba al-Eish, described as a Hamas Nukhba operative involved in training and recruiting terrorists.

In a statement on Monday, the IDF said that on Saturday its forces in Gaza killed two Hamas terrorists.

One of the terrorists was identified as Ahmad Munir Khalil Zaza, an engineering officer in Hamas’s West Jabalia Battalion. He was involved in weapons production and the construction of explosive devices, and had recently attempted to plant explosives near Israeli forces, according to the IDF.

The other terrorist, killed in a separate strike, was identified by the IDF as Hussein Safadi, who it described as commander of Hamas’s sniper array in Gaza City, who had directed attacks on Israeli troops and was recently involved in training snipers despite the ceasefire.

Israeli forces remain deployed in Gaza under the Southern Command and will continue to act against immediate threats, the IDF said.
