Collingwood Coach Cautions: Bobby Hill’s Football Comeback May Take Time Despite Training Resumption

0

Bobby Hill is currently facing significant challenges as he looks to restart his paused AFL career.

The 2023 Norm Smith Medal recipient returned to Collingwood training on Thursday after a personal trip to Western Australia. This marks another disruption in his football journey.

Hill has participated in three VFL matches this year, with his last AFL appearance dating back to Round 22 of the previous season.

“I had an insightful conversation with Bobby this morning,” McRae shared. “He’s dealing with quite a bit at the moment. Let’s be clear about that. There’s a lot on his plate.”

“He’s a work in progress, but it’s reassuring to have him back with us,” McRae concluded.

‘He’s a long way away from playing footy … but again, when he’s in our building, at least we get some opportunities to make him feel that he’s loved and appreciated.

‘That will never waver, and I’m chatting to him yesterday, having really deep conversations about this stuff.’

McRae said he wanted to be thought of as a father-figure to his players.

‘Regardless of whatever happens in life, there’s a level and care. These young men, in my eyes, are like my sons,’ he said.

He also confirmed Hill would not play at any level this weekend.

‘There’s a lot of work to be done before he plays,’ McRae said.

Brayden Maynard will not return this Saturday against Port Adelaide, despite the hard-nosed defender being keen to resume quickly from the dislocated shoulder he suffered in the King’s Birthday loss to Melbourne.

‘Reality set in that he probably has a bit more work to do on that shoulder,’ McRae said.

The Magpies forward has not played an AFL game since round 22 last season

‘It’s still a little bit unstable.

‘He’s a warrior, he wants to play most weeks. He said ‘don’t count me out for next week’, but we’ll see how that goes.’

Captain Darcy Moore also has returned from an overseas trip as he recovers from a hamstring injury. It remains unclear when he will play again, but McRae said the trip was ‘a massive gain’.

The Magpies are poised to make a massive offer for Brisbane star Lachie Neale, who is a free agent at the end of the season.

‘I’ve said openly that we want to be in the market for free agents. We’ll explore everyone who’s still available,’ McRae said.

‘We have to be progressive in the way we think about the game. We’ve created a free agency for a reason – it’s like going fishing in a small pond.’

McRae said recruiting a star such as Neale would immediately boost the Magpies.

‘There’s definitely an energy. When we bring Dan Houston and Harry Perryman in … the locker room gets excited,’ he said.

The coach remains ‘open-minded’ on whether veterans Scott Pendlebury, Steele Sidebottom and Jeremy Howe continue playing next season.

‘Ideally, we unveil a statue when he exits. He deserves that,’ McRae said of Pendlebury.

At the other end of the playing scale, 19-year-old midfielder Sam Swadling will make his AFL debut against Port.

He was recruited from WA with the No.37 pick in last year’s national draft.

Federal Charges Dropped for Trio Linked to ATF Shooting and Gun Trafficking in Country Club Hills, Court Documents Reveal

0

In a recent development from COUNTRY CLUB HILLS, Ill. (WLS), federal charges have been dismissed against three individuals accused of robbery, two of whom were injured during an undercover operation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) targeting gun trafficking.

Prosecutors revealed that newly discovered evidence challenges the initial account presented by ATF and FBI agents, as per court documents reviewed by the ABC7 I-Team.

This incident adds to the ongoing controversies surrounding the federal prosecutor’s office in Chicago.

ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watch

The ATF reported that their operation took place around 5:30 p.m. on June 9, near 189th and Loretto Lane in Country Club Hills. During the operation, an ATF special agent and a task force officer discharged their weapons in response to an attempted armed robbery aimed at undercover agents. Two suspects were struck in the process. The task force officer involved is affiliated with the Chicago Police Department, authorities noted.

The injured suspects were apprehended and subsequently transported to the hospital, where they were reported to be in stable condition. Additionally, a third individual faced charges for allegedly assaulting an officer, as stated by officials.

The USAO asked a judge on Wednesday to dismiss the charges filed last week against three people accused of attempting to buy firearms from undercover ATF agents in Country Club Hills, and later running away, triggering an agent-involved shooting of two people.

On Thursday, Magistrate Judge Keri L. Holleb Hotaling dismissed the charges against the three men without prejudice and, underscoring the seriousness of this latest situation, scheduled a July 2 hearing to discuss whether sanctions should be imposed against the government.

Judge Hotaling ordered officials from both the FBI, and the USAO Front Office, which could include USAO Andrew Boutros himself, to be present at the July hearing.

In a motion filed with the court on Wednesday, federal prosecutors said the USAO “Front Office” obtained video from the ATF of the shooting incident, and that aspects of the shooting “appear inconsistent with the description of the shooting.” That description of events came from an FBI agent investigating the incident, and ATF agents involved with the operation, according to the original criminal complaint filed.

In addition to the new video evidence, prosecutors told the judge an ATF special agent sent an email to the prosecution team this week describing the events, and that it too was “potentially inconsistent” with what prosecutors were originally told.

Court records show new evidence obtained by prosecutors contradicts the account of events given by ATF and FBI agents.Chicago police shot 18-year-old Demond Edwards on June 9 during the altercation. His lawyer says video taken by a bystander shows Edwards was unarmed, and wearing different clothing compared to descriptions of him at the time by an ATF agent involved in the incident. On Thursday, charges against Edwards were dropped after a request by the Northern District of Illinois’ U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Late Thursday night, Edwards attorney filed suit against the government saying nothing justified the shooting of his client, who is now paralyzed, and the ATF agent whose testimony led to charges needs to be investigated.

However, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois shared a statement with ABC7 Thursday evening, saying the situation is still developing.

“Late last week the government filed a criminal complaint against multiple individuals arising out of an attempted armed robbery and assault on federal officers occurring on June 9, 2026,” the statement read. “The facts are fluid and developing, and multiple investigations are ongoing and more facts will be forthcoming. Our decision to dismiss the complaint today should not be read at all as a retreat of this case or the events giving rise to charges.”

The judge in the case has scheduled a hearing regarding possible sanctions against the government, and this is just the latest prosecution from that office to fall apart.

It is an unprecedented situation, according to ABC7 Chief Legal Analyst Gil Soffer, that gives other defense lawyers cause to think something is very wrong with the operation of the US Attorney’s Office

“It is giving them a lifeline sometimes sometimes more than that an opportunity to get charges dismiss that otherwise would’ve gone through trial and potentially resulted in convictions that has already happened an and it could happen again and we don’t know how many more cases we’re going to we’re going to be infected by the same problem,” Soffer said.

The ATF said Illinois State Police, the FBI and Chicago Police Department assisted in the initial investigation.

COPA is also investigating because a Chicago police officer was involved in the shooting.

DCLM Daily Manna 19 June 2026 — Right Quest and Question

DCLM Daily Manna 19 June 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Right Quest and Question

TOPIC: Right Quest and Question (DCLM Daily Manna 19 June 2026)

KEY VERSE: And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him – Acts 8:31

TEXT: Acts 8:31-40 (KJV)

31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.

32 The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:

33 In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.

34 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?

35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.

36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?

37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.

39 And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.

40 But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached in all the cities, till he came to Caesarea.

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

The conversion of Augustine of Hippo (386 AD) was as instructive and profound as his life and writings. Augustine, a renowned philosopher and theologian, struggled with his faith and moral dilemmas for many years. Although exposed to some religious and philosophical materials, the vacuum and void for God was palpable in his heart, and his quest for rest through a more profound experience increased his curiosity and search for answers to his longing. His turning point came when he heard a childlike voice saying, “Take and read.” He opened the Bible to Romans 13:13,14, which had a profound impact on him. Guided by the teachings of Ambrose, the Bishop of Milan, Augustine embraced Christianity and became one of its most influential figures during the Middle Age era.

The narrative in our text summarises Christ’s redemptive sacrifice for mankind. Philip, the Evangelist, was commissioned by God to reach out to the Ethiopian eunuch, who eventually got converted and was baptised in water along the way. The conversation began with a pivotal question from the eunuch, who needed someone more knowledgeable to guide him through the passage of Scripture he was reading at that time. Having the right quest followed by the right question produced the right answer and spiritual satisfaction for the Ethiopian official. How many in our world today are busy searching for the right thing in the wrong place!

This quest for something deeper, higher and more experiential has never left mankind. In a similar vein, the question has lingered on the lips of many willing and potential disciples of Christ, waiting endlessly for someone, somewhere, to explain the life-saving gospel to them. Saint Augustine writes in his Confessions, “You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in You.” His popular quote captures something that resonates deep within the human person. Restlessness is that desire to be filled and be fulfilled. The Ethiopian eunuch was driven by this quest to travel from Africa to Israel on a religious pilgrimage in search of spiritual repose and comfort in Jerusalem’s temple worship.

Many people are confused and despondent as a result of the disappointment they encountered from false preachers or religious merchants. God is looking for more Philips today to step forward and step up, join the chariot, and guide sincere seekers to the source of living water—the true and transformational gospel that gives them life, satisfaction, and lasting fulfilment in eternity.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Believers must be sensitive to secure and not scare away sincere seekers.

Joe Biden Seeks Guidance During Obama’s Library Opening: A Behind-the-Scenes Look

0

During the inauguration of Barack Obama’s presidential library in Chicago, Joe Biden was observed mumbling to himself while being guided across the stage.

At 83, the former president exhibited signs of confusion at several moments throughout Thursday’s event.

Footage captured Biden staring intently into the crowd as Obama walked by.

Following the conclusion of much of the ceremony, Biden lingered near the podium. Cameras recorded him waving, scanning the audience, and remaining on stage even after Obama and other key figures had departed.

Left alone on stage, Biden seemed to inquire, “Where are the children?” and “Where’s my granddaughter?” according to lip-reader Nicola Hickling, as reported by the Daily Mail.

The awkward scenes quickly became some of the most talked-about moments from the star-studded event, which brought together former presidents Bill Clinton, George W Bush and Biden for the dedication of the Obama Presidential Center.

Video also showed Biden appearing to seek direction as guests and performers moved around the stage, before he was eventually joined by his wife former First Lady Jill Biden.

Biden’s appearance marked one of his highest-profile public outings in recent months as he continues to battle prostate cancer that has spread to his bones.

Hickling also analyzed an exchange between Obama and Biden as the pair stood together on stage.

According to her interpretation, Obama told Biden: ‘As you know, I got a real deal. I can’t fail, I told him to go,’ while gesturing over his shoulder before adding: ‘Come on, the camera’s on us.’

Hickling claimed Biden replied: ‘Thank you for the lovely welcome.’

The event itself was intended as a celebration of Obama’s presidential legacy and the official opening of the sprawling campus on Chicago’s South Side.

Obama was joined by Clinton, Bush, Biden, former Vice President Kamala Harris and a guest list packed with celebrities, musicians and political figures.

During his remarks, Obama paid tribute to Biden and their years together in the White House.

What do Biden’s public struggles say about the pressures and expectations we place on our leaders?

‘Thank you for your steadfast partnership for eight years,’ Obama told the crowd.

‘Joe, we started as running mates, and ended as family. And we would not be here without you, and we are grateful.’

The former president’s comments drew applause from attendees gathered for the ceremony, which also featured performances from Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Bono, John Legend and Christina Aguilera.

The appearance inevitably revived discussion about the closing chapter of Biden’s presidency, during which critics repeatedly questioned whether the then octogenarian should have stepped aside sooner ahead of the 2024 election.

Biden, who left office as the oldest president in American history, has largely remained out of the spotlight since departing the White House.

Rhapsody Of Realities 19 June 2026: Understand The Context

Rhapsody Of Realities 19 June 2026 By Pastor Chris Oyakhilome (Christ Embassy): Understand The Context

TOPIC: Understand The Context (Rhapsody of Realities 19 June 2026)

Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven (Matthew 18:18).

Rhapsody Of Realities For Today’s MESSAGE:

In the Scriptures, it’s important to understand the context in which certain statements are made. Sometimes the same words are used in different passages but with entirely different meanings because the context is different. For example, the Lord Jesus used the expression “bind” and “loose” in both Matthew chapter 16 and Matthew chapter 18.

However, the subject or context in each passage is not the same. In Matthew 16:19, He said, “And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven….” Here, the Lord Jesus was unveiling Kingdom authority, the authority of the Church to enforce the will of God in the earth. It’s about our authority to establish divine realities, to bring heaven’s will into manifestation and disallow anything contrary.

However, in Matthew 18, the subject is different. There, He addressed relationships and discipline within the Church. He explained how to resolve conflicts between brethren: first privately, then with witnesses, and, if necessary, before the church.

If the individual refused to hear the church, he was to be regarded as one outside the fellowship. It was in this context that He said, “Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven” as read in Matthew 18:18. Here, He was speaking of the authority given to the Church to make decisions concerning order, discipline and fellowship within the house of God.

This reveals something important to note while studying the Scriptures: the same words may not always carry the same application. You’d have to do proper contextual analysis. If you ignore the context, you could misapply the Scripture. That’s why the Bible says in 2 Timothy 2:15, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

Study to understand the Word in the right context; don’t interpret Scriptures based on assumption but with the wisdom and accuracy of the Spirit. That way, you’ll apply the Word rightly and exercise divine authority correctly, and walk in the fullness of the blessings of your nature and heritage in Christ.

PRAYER

Dear Father, thank you for the wisdom of your Word which guides my life and instructs me in righteousness. I have insight to rightly divide the Word of truth and apply it accurately in every situation. I walk in wisdom, exercise authority correctly, and contribute to the unity, order and growth of the body of Christ, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY

Matthew 16:19 (NIV)
I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.

Matthew 18:18 (NIV)
Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.

2 Timothy 2:15 (AMPC)
Study and be eager and do your utmost to present yourself to God approved (tested by trial), a workman who has no cause to be ashamed, correctly analyzing and accurately dividing [rightly handling and skillfully teaching] the Word of Truth.

Stream Now: The Must-Watch Dark Period Crime Drama Rivalling ‘Endeavour

For those who can’t get enough of crime dramas, there’s a new series to add to your must-watch list, especially if you’re a fan of ITV hits like Endeavour. Enter The Doctor Blake Mysteries, an Australian crime series set in the 1950s, featuring Dr. Lucien Blake, portrayed by Craig McLachlan, as he aids the police in solving complex cases.

The narrative begins with Dr. Blake’s return to his hometown of Ballarat after a 30-year absence. His previous experiences include studying medicine in Scotland and serving in the Far East during World War II. Upon his return, he takes over his late father’s medical practice and steps into the role of police surgeon. Dr. Blake’s sharp eye for detail and his natural sleuthing abilities make him invaluable in unraveling mysterious crimes.

Airing from 2013 to 2017, the series captivated audiences, concluding with a television movie that tied up the storyline.

Craig McLachlan, known for his roles in Neighbours and Home and Away, won a coveted Golden Logie for his performance as Dr. Blake.

On Reddit, enthusiasts have recommended The Doctor Blake Mysteries as a fitting follow-up for those who enjoyed ITV’s Endeavour, the prequel to Inspector Morse.

One person wrote: “The Doctor Blake Mysteries (set in 1950’s-1960’s Australia, way darker than Endeavour). I’ll also second Inspector George Gently (amazing series!) and Unforgotten.”

While another wrote in a separate Reddit thread on the same topic: “Agree with all the foyles war and george gently suggestions, they’re awesome. I would add dr. Blake mysteries, father brown, grantchester… [sic].”

The Doctor Blake Mysteries have also been praised on IMDb as one person posted in their 10/10 review: “Craig McLachlan’s acting is brilliant in this show! I just can’t say enough of his brilliance at portraying the part of Dr. Blake. As I said, outstanding acting on Craig’s part.”

A second top-rated review hailed it as a “thought-provoking show” and explained: “Amazing writing and intrigue. Dr. Blake is a marvel. I wish they had shows like this in the US.”

A third person wrote in their glowing, top-tier review: “It is a classic example of the period detective genre like ‘Ripper Street’ or ‘Murdoch Mysteries’ with a little bit of 21st century hindsight.”

The user added: “I didn’t find Blake at all grumpy – quite the opposite. I get a little fed up with the short tempered detectives of the likes of Frost or DCI Banks.”

Ukrainian Drone Strikes Disrupt Moscow’s Major Refinery, Fuel Market Faces Crisis

0

In a significant escalation, Ukraine executed one of its most extensive drone offensives against Moscow since Russia’s full-scale invasion commenced. The attack targeted a prominent oil refinery within the Russian capital, resulting in dense, black smoke billowing across sections of the city, as confirmed by Russian authorities and various reports.

The Moscow Oil Refinery, situated in the Kapotnya district and a crucial fuel hub for the region, was struck overnight on Thursday. This marks the second attack on the facility within three days. Footage circulating on social media depicted towering flames and thick smoke enveloping the site. Meanwhile, Russian officials reported that air defense systems intercepted multiple incoming drones.

Ukraine asserts that these deep incursions into Russian territory are turning points in the conflict, a point emphasized by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during discussions with President Donald Trump and other G7 leaders at a summit in France this week.

This latest series of strikes highlights a new war phase, with Ukraine increasingly capable of targeting crucial sites deep within Russian borders. At the same time, Moscow faces challenges in preventing drones from reaching politically sensitive and economically vital locations near the capital.

On June 18, 2026, smoke and flames were seen rising over Moscow following a Ukrainian drone assault that impacted the Kapotnya oil refinery and other strategic sites within the Russian capital. (East2West)

“This is pure hell, I’ve never felt such terror,” one Moscow resident said after the attack, according to East2West News.

Another resident, according to the outlet, asked, “Why won’t this madman stop his crazy and pointless war and end the death and destruction?”

East2West news agency also reported that a heavy security presence was deployed around the Kremlin, with Red Square sealed off and machine-gunners positioned on towers, ramparts and near Bolsheviks’ founder Vladimir Lenin’s Mausoleum.

Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said air defenses shot down more than 130 drones approaching the city. Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed more than 550 Ukrainian drones were intercepted overnight across several regions, though battlefield claims from either side could not be independently verified.

The Moscow Oil Refinery in Kapotnya burns after being hit during Ukraine’s drone attack

The attack disrupted daily life across Moscow, forcing temporary flight suspensions at major airports and traffic restrictions near the refinery. Russian officials said debris also fell near the Sadovod shopping center, damaging a building. The Moscow region governor said 16 people were injured in the broader attack.

Ukraine Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha mocked the confusion in Moscow, writing on X, “One of the most popular questions asked by Muscovites this morning is ‘What is going on?’ I can answer. Your country started a war of aggression against ours. For years, it has been killing our people. Now that you know what’s going on, ask Putin when he is planning to end it.”

The strike appeared to expose vulnerabilities in Moscow’s heavily promoted air defense network, bringing the war deeper into the Russian capital even as the Kremlin continues its long-range missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities.

The Kapotnya refinery is a strategically significant target. A prior Ukrainian drone strike damaged part of the refinery in recent days, according to Reuters, and forced a halt in some operations.

East2West reported that the refinery supplies 40% of Moscow’s fuel market and 70% of the surrounding region’s gasoline and aviation fuel needs.

Ukraine increasingly has targeted Russian energy infrastructure in an effort to undermine Moscow’s war machine and increase the domestic cost of the war inside Russia. Kyiv has described such strikes as part of its campaign of “long-range sanctions” against Russia’s oil and military infrastructure.

The Moscow attack came as President Vladimir Putin hosted leaders from the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations bloc in Kazan, Russia. Ukraine also reportedly struck targets linked to Russia’s supply routes to occupied Crimea, including road and rail infrastructure. Ukrainian officials have repeatedly said isolating Crimea is a key military objective as Kyiv seeks to weaken Russia’s hold on the peninsula, which Moscow illegally annexed in 2014.

Russia, meanwhile, continued its own strikes on Ukraine. Ukrainian officials reported Russian attacks on energy and oil facilities in the Poltava region and near Kyiv.

East2West reported that Russia was moving Tu-95MS strategic bombers across the country, raising concerns that Moscow could be preparing another major strike on Ukraine in the coming days.

Latto Shares Candid Insights on Motherhood and Postpartum Journey with 21 Savage’s Daughter

Latto is sharing insights on motherhood, navigating life after childbirth, and her decision to keep aspects of her personal life under wraps.

The rapper recently spoke with Essence about adjusting to life with her first child, a daughter with 21 Savage. Although Latto has touched on her experiences as a mother, she has deliberately opted to keep her daughter’s name private, a choice that seems quite deliberate.

Latto’s desire to shield her daughter from public attention stems from her own experiences in the limelight. Since gaining fame, the Atlanta artist has often been a topic of discussion due to her relationships, alleged disputes, and internet gossip, which sometimes overshadow her musical achievements.

Reflecting on her career path, Latto admits there’s one aspect she might have approached differently.

“I probably would have been more reserved about my personal life overall,” she shared with the magazine. “I think I would have just kept quieter. That’s the only thing I would have done differently.”

These days, much of her focus is on motherhood, a role she says has transformed her outlook and given her a renewed sense of purpose.

Asked whether becoming a mom changed her motivation, Latto revealed that she had actually been searching for a new source of inspiration before becoming pregnant.

“For sure, 100 percent,” she said. “It’s crazy because I was actually praying for a new motivation in life before I got pregnant. So 100 percent it motivated and inspired me in a whole different way. It unlocks a different version of yourself almost immediately. It’s kind of crazy.”

As she prepared for motherhood, Latto said fellow rapper Sexyy Red offered some of the most meaningful advice.

“She was saying my life is about to change in the best way possible,” Latto recalled. “‘It’s scary — the change is so big that it is scary — but you got this.’ She said keep your head up through postpartum because it wasn’t easy for her and she hoped it would be better for me.”

Now experiencing postpartum herself, Latto says she has learned there is no way to fully prepare for the experience.

“Every day is different,” she explained. “You see people tell their stories but you don’t really know what to expect for real. I’m just taking it day by day. Some days are better than others, but overall I’m doing well.”

The rapper credited her strong support system, including her daughter’s father and both grandmothers, for helping her navigate this new chapter.

“She gave me more drive if anything,” Latto said of her daughter. “And I have so much help — her dad, her grandmas, we have a whole village.”

Motherhood has also inspired Latto to expand her philanthropic efforts. After becoming a mom, she launched her first annual Big Mama’s Day event, and she says postpartum awareness could become a focus of future initiatives.

For now, Latto is balancing motherhood with preparations for her return to performing. She told Essence that she’s focusing on healthy eating, exercise, self-care, and mental wellness as she gets ready to step back on stage.

“Trying to eat healthy, preparing my body inside and out,” she said. “I’ve got to prepare my mind too — a lot of self-care, massages, chiropractor appointments, all the things inside and out so my mind and body can be ready to hit that stage.”

Director Explains the Absence of Taylor Parker Interviews in ‘Maternal Instinct’ Documentary

In the early hours of October 9, 2020, tragedy struck New Boston, Texas, as 21-year-old Reagan Simmons Hancock, who was expecting a child, was brutally murdered. The assailant was Taylor Parker, Hancock’s former wedding photographer.

Parker, engaged in a months-long deceit of faking her own pregnancy, committed the horrific act of extracting Hancock’s unborn child to pass off as her own, according to court documents.

This chilling crime is now the focus of the Netflix documentary Maternal Instinct. Notably, the film does not feature interviews with Parker, who is currently on death row in Texas after her conviction for capital murder and abduction.

Director Jessica Dimmock shared with Oxygen in an exclusive interview that the decision to exclude Parker from the documentary was deliberate.

“We chose not to speak with Taylor,” Dimmock revealed, emphasizing the importance of highlighting the voices of those affected by Parker’s actions. “While Reagan and her family suffered the most, there were others deceived and hurt by Parker, including coworkers and past friends. Their perspectives were crucial to the story.”

In addition to speaking with Hancock’s family—who hope the film will lead to legislative change to protect pregnant mothers—Dimmock and her team highlighted interviews with Parker’s ex-boyfriend Wade Griffin, his loved ones, and other members of their community who were affected by her web of lies and violent actions.

Also featured are Parker’s doctors, who knew she couldn’t carry a child due to a past hysterectomy, but could not disclose the truth due to medical privacy laws.

Dimmock also brought together footage of Parker from before and after the crime, including body cam video from her emergency room interrogation, where she maintained that Hancock’s baby—who died at the hospital—was hers.

“We have her text messages. We have videos of her,” Dimmock said. “But it felt like, you know, I think as a director, ‘What is she going to say?’ From everything that I’ve read, from the way that the trial went, I don’t think she’s remorseful. There doesn’t really seem to be evidence that she’s remorseful. If she said she was remorseful, could I even believe her, and does that matter?”

“I just wasn’t sure that there was anything that she could say that would be additive, or that I could believe,” the director added, “and it felt disrespectful to those that she hurt the most to include her take.”

Parker, who has not spoken out from death row in the wake of the documentary, was last publicly seen at her sentencing trial in 2022. During the trial, prosecutors alleged that her pattern of deception had continued as she awaited her day in court.

In court documents filed by the Bowie County District Attorney’s Office and obtained by WDBJ, prosecutors argued Parker continued “her fraudulent pattern of lying and misrepresenting almost all aspects of her medical history and medical status” while behind bars, including allegedly taking part in a “massive fraudulent scheme directed at fabricating evidence, tampering with witnesses and ultimately attempting to frame a mentally fragile inmate” for her crime.

Prosecutors also argued, per KTAL, that Parker had continued to offer multiple “wild lies” of what happened the day Hancock died, including that she’d been targeted for kidnapping due to her alleged wealth and that Reagan was a casualty.

Parker’s defense attorney, meanwhile, argued in the opening statements of her sentencing trial that his client suffered from mental health issues that may have compromised her decision making.

In November 2025, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals affirmed Parker’s conviction and death sentence.

Her attorneys, who contended Parker didn’t receive a fair trial and argued she should not have been convicted of kidnapping Hancock’s newborn, asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review her case; however, they officially declined to hear her appeal in May 2025, KTAL reported.

Maternal Instinct is streaming now on Netflix.
